- 0:05SPEAKER_01: Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of This Week in Hockey East, along with Bridget Prue.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: I'm Eric Galante.
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: It's time to lock in on the playoffs.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: The quarterfinals are here on the women's side.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: We have four games to preview coming up on this Saturday.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: We'll have three of them across our Nesson family of networks.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: We can't wait to bring them to you.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Let's start at Schneider Arena, because I think this is the most fascinating game of the group.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: You have this Providence team that you and I were sitting here doing this show.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: We were not really talking about yet at the start of the second semester, but they have rolled ever since that point.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: And they take on a Northeastern team that it feels like forever since Northeastern has not had a home game in the Hockey East playoffs.
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: So a really interesting 4-5 game that'll be a seven o'clock start on Saturday, right here on Essen.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Providence had some ground to make up too.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Their first semester, they didn't do well against Hockey East opponents, three, six, and two in Hockey East.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And then when they reached the final stretch in the second half, they just were unbeatable.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: They only had three losses in the second half.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: They're 13-3 since the start of the second semester.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: So they have been rolling and in part due to a top line that has maybe been the hottest line in Hockey East on the women's side.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And that is uh Kirchmeyer, Knapp, and Johnson.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And Riken Kirchmeyer is our service credit union scoring leader.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: She finished off the regular season with 37 points, 30 of those in league play.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So against Hockey East opponents, which is the best uh in both of those categories in the conference.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And then you look at what her and Knapp have been able to do.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: They both finish with 19 goals this season.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, that is the top of Hockey East as well.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And they climbed their way up in the second half.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And the total points output from that line, they've been able to put up 56 points through the last 16 games of the season from January 1st into the end of the regular season.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: That is just so much of an offensive output that it was able to propel them to this new average, this much better scoring average.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: They're now averaging 3.1 goals per game in the last 16 games for the second semester.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: They were averaging 2.1 before that in the previous 16 games.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So they've been able to bump themselves up a whole goal per game, and they're getting great goaltending from Hope Wolinski as well.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: So they're able to host.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: It didn't look like a possibility earlier in the season, but they went on this run, and now they will be hosting Northeastern, who's fallen to the fifth spot.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they beat Northeastern twice the second half of the season as part of this 13-3 stretch.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: So they do have some uh positive momentum out of that.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: And I think the thing that stood out is it was their scoring in those games, right?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: They beat Northeastern 5-1.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: They beat Northeastern 3-2 back in January.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: So we'll see if that carries over.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: It's kind of crazy to see Northeastern here, right?
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Just three and five in their last eight games.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: This is the lowest they finished in Hockey East in 14 years.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: But I think before we even dive into it, what do we know?
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: We we did this with Beanpot, right?
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Northeastern knows how to win these big games.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: We've seen them do it time and time again.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: So even though they're on the road this time, uh, they still have that experience winning these tournament type games as they've done in Beanpot, as they've done in hockeys consistently the last couple of years.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: I think the big question with this Huskies team, though, is who gets the start in goal?
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Lisa Junson, who has been so good, but was pulled last Friday in the game against Vermont.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: They brought in Maddie Robitzer.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: She came in, made 10 saves in the game on Friday without allowing a goal, then one on Saturday with 18 saves, just one power play goal allowed.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: So um it'll be interesting to see where Dave Flint goes.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: Junson's obviously been the one who's carried most of the load this year.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Um, Robitzer did start against Providence.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: Her only other appearance of the season was earlier this year, back on January 17th.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: She allowed four.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: So I'm kind of interested to see where they go there, but um, they do have that big game experience.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: They know how to handle this environment.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: It's not going to be new for them.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: So it will be interesting to see how they fare and what should be a really, really interesting game to send somebody to the semifinals.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and Providence is the only team that Northeastern hasn't beat in Hockey East yet this year.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: So that's something to take note of as well.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Providence won all three of the regular season games, and Northeastern looking for a little bit of revenge, probably in that, so that they don't get swept for the season.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Um, and we'll look at our other game as well, our number three seed Boston College, and our number six seed Maine, also on Saturday at 4:30.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: And Eric, Maine was able to avoid the opening round.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: That was the main uh uh point that they wanted to get across in the last final stretch.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Just get out of that opening round, you get the bye, and they were able to do that with a pretty strong finish.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, pretty impressive here.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Maine since January 24th, they played nine games, most of the other teams played 10.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: But since January 24th, Maine went 5-2-2.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: They did not lose a game in regulation.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Both of those losses were in overtime, so a nine-game streak of getting at least a standings point.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: They've gotten more standings points per game in that stretch since January 24th than anyone else in hockeys.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: You can see UConn and Providence slightly better records, but Maine has been right there.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: So it's pretty impressive.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: That includes them going unbeaten in their final five regular season games, especially to get out of that opening round, as you talked about.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: And they do notably have a big win over Northeastern in that time.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: You could go back even farther.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: They're 8-4-3 since December 14th.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and they were able to get the job done that they wanted to, avoid that opening round, and they match up with Boston College, who actually hasn't finished off the season super strong, 3-4-1 over their last eight games.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: But really, they did win the games that mattered in that stretch, and including against Northeastern.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: They took four of six points two weekends ago, including a Sunday win at Matthews three to two.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: And that was important because they were all kind of grappling for those spots three, four, and five uh in the standings, and which made the difference for home ice for Boston College being able to take those points.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Two more quarterfinal games to tell you about.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about those on the other side when we come back on this week in Hockey East.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to this week in Hockey East.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Well, Eric, we had two games on Wednesday that determined who was gonna move on to the quarterfinals, the opening round matchups, and we're gonna get into that right now.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: First of all, we have UConn knows their opponent now.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: They're gonna play Merrimack.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Merrimack got a win against UNH on Wednesday night.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: They ended up with a three to one win.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: They scored the first three goals of the game, were able to hold on.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: And uh part of that was because of their goaltending that they got.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: And Marg Ofavra was we're gonna give her our Jersey Mics a sub-above woman's player of the week because she was able to make 33 saves.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: The only goal she can't gave up was with 33 seconds left in the game.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: So she almost made it all the way through.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And this was uh this was a kind of a revenge win for Merrimack over UNH for uh the a previous uh game that they had not so long ago where Merrimack uh was behind by a lot, came back, almost won loss in overtime.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: But this one is the important one.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: So they set themselves up to play in the quarterfinals against UConn, and that's a matchup that UConn has taken all three wins, but two of those were back in November.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: One of them was more recently at the end of January, so that's probably more what they're gonna go off of film-wise and see.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: But for Merrimack, they've actually now never lost an opening round game.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: They're four and oh in the opening round, uh, and they all were as the lower seeded team.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: So the big challenge with them now going on to play the number one seed is that UConn is coming in with a lot of momentum.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: They had to sweep BU in order to get first place and get that number one seed.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: And they did.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: They got all six points last weekend, kind of riding a high and getting contributions from different places in the lineup as well.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: They got a lot of veteran contributions on Saturday, two goals for Ava Rinker, an empty net goal for Jada Hobbish.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Those are two uh players that wear an A and our veterans.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: And then they also have this young fourth line that's been scoring and been contributing.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And so uh you combine that with good goaltending from them as well.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Tia Chan, uh, we'll get to some of the awards later on, but once again finds herself as the goalie of the year in hockey east.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: And so that's all the backdrop for this matchup that we have on Saturday.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Everything in this league is close, and that's what certainly uh stands out in a major way.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Um let's talk about the other one.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Vermont gets an overtime victory over Holy Cross.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Three to two is the final score.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: CeC DeLaurier scores the game winning goal in overtime.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Vermont trailed 1-0 early in that game, just 48 seconds in.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: Charlotte Sontag scored for Holy Cross, but uh I thought it was impressive, not only that Vermont came back, but remember this was a Vermont team that lost two games to Holy Cross just a couple of weeks ago on the road.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: They were swept.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: So to bounce back um was really impressive.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: And then I think it's interesting, how does BU bounce back here, right?
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: They had a chance to win, as you said, the hockey's regular season.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Um, they didn't.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: UConn had a great weekend, they win all six points.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: Um, that doesn't take anything away from BU's season.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: They still had an amazing year.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: So now they have an opportunity to try to bounce back from that and hopefully try and you know do it again.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, these are teams that, again, everybody plays three times, so we do get a lot of tape on what these matchups might potentially look like.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: BU and Vermont split the regular season in January, then BU won the third game just a couple of weeks ago, a four-to-one final score.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: But even that game was tied um with, you know, kind of midway through the second.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: So it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: But I really want to see what the special teams matchup is in this particular matchup.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: You look at BU, they scored three power play goals in three games against Vermont, uh, including two in a game.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Vermont even scored a short-handed goal of their own.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: BU scored a short-handed goal across this series.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: So, how does the special teams play out?
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: And related to that, well, you're gonna talk about it a little bit later, but Tamara Giaquinto, who is named the Hockey East Army ROTC Defender of the Year, she has been especially good on the power play.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: So she's our night shift all-academic standout to watch.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Six power play goals, 16 of her 17 points have come in hockey East play.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: So, does she have a major impact in terms of where the special teams are in this particular game?
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: That'll be something to watch for this matchup.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: So uh both these games are in the afternoon.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: The UConn will be at four o'clock on Nessant as they take on Merrimack tomorrow.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Coming up, we'll look at our men's slate of games this week, including our Friday night hockey East game to watch between Boston College and New Hampshire.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: That's all coming up on This Week in Hockey East.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to This Week in Hockey East.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: It's time to go around Hockey East, presented by Boston Harbor Hotel.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Let's look at our Friday night hockey East game on Nesson.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: It's 7 o'clock coming up after us.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Boston College, number one in the country once again this week, number one in the pairwise, number one in Hockey East.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: They take on New Hampshire.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: BC right now has a five-point lead over Maine for first place in the Hockey East standings.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: They did play an extra game last week.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Maine will play their extra game next week, so they don't have the same number of games right now.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: But basically, the way to look at this is if Maine were to drop one point somewhere this week against Vermont, then BC could potentially clinch as early as Saturday at New Hampshire, the number one seed in Hockey East, if they were to get all six points this weekend.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: It would have to be all six, and Maine dropping one.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: If Maine were to win their game in hand, basically you're looking at a two-point lead for Boston College right now, is where we're at in terms of the standings.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: BC with these two games against New Hampshire, and then just one next week against Merrimack on Saturday, whereas Maine has two home games against Vermont this week, and then two road games at UMass.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: So I'm really interested to see how that sorts itself out.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: The guy for BC, though, that really stood out last week is BC has kind of bounced back here from a couple of losses in a row in games that I'm not sure how poorly BC played, but I thought they had opponents play really, really well against them in BU and UMass.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Andre Gasot was excellent last weekend against Vermont.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Co-hockey's player of the week.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: He had a six-point weekend, three goals and three assists.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, he now has goals in three straight games.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: He has points in five straight.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: The Eagles are gonna need someone without Yalvik here.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: They've had been out with him for a little while.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be important for some of these top six guys to even take another jump.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: And Gasso has certainly been that guy recently.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, and you talk about bouncing back, right?
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Boston College, 14 goals in these three games since the back-to-back losses.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: So it does feel like they have bounced back.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: And by the way, Ryan Leonard now has a national lead of four goals in the national goal scoring lead.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: Um, but this was a close game last time these two teams played uh at the beginning of the month, Bridget, up at the Witamore Center.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it was in front of a sold-out crowd up in New Hampshire.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Good vibe from the beginning of that game.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: And it was a game that UNH was actually leading early in the third period.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: It was two to one.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: They ended up uh with goals from Silas Cleric and Ryan Conme, who made it that two to one score.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: But then BC finished out really strong.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Third period performance.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: They put up the next three goals.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Um, it it was all scoring from all different areas of this BC roster as well.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: It was some guys you don't see score a lot.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Gay Perole, obviously, yes, scoring all the time.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: But then you had Will Vote, Gentry Schamberger, and Mike Posma as the other goal scorers, and they end up bringing this to a four to two win for Boston College in that first matchup of the season.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: And when you look at UNH and where their special teams are at, and and the record hasn't been great over the last stretch, but the actual special teams numbers and some of the underlying numbers are still good.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: You look at the power play, they have 12 power play goals in this 13-game stretch, 25% on the power play for them.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Uh penalty kill.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: They've killed off 12 of the last 13 penalties over the course of the last six games, and then they don't allow a lot of shots either.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: So 26.5 shots per game in those 13 games allowed.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And uh if you look at the advanced analytics, they're top 10 in the country in terms of creating high danger chances as well, which I know Eric is a stat that you love.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Uh you got to get to those advanced analyses.
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just it is crazy because it's just like you said, that like the record has not been there, right?
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: One 11-1 in their last 13 games.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: But so you don't expect to see that, but they are creating.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: So it feels like there's a world where I'll put it this way: whoever's the sixth seed, I don't think that's gonna be easy to game against the 11th seed if that's what it ends up being in New Hampshire in a couple weeks.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Be really interesting to see what happens.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: BC in New Hampshire, Friday, Saturday, home and home.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Plenty more will continue around Hockey East on the other side.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to this week in Hockey East.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: I'm Bridget Prue alongside Eric Galante.
- 15:32SPEAKER_00: It's time to continue to go around Hockey East on the men's side, presented by Boston Children's Hospital, the official children's hospital of Hockey East.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Eric, we've been talking about this over the course of the last few weeks.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, the log jam that is the middle of the Hockey East men's standings.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Who's separating?
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Or are we just continuing to see this really close cluster of teams fighting for those middle spots?
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think what's fascinating is we don't really know what these teams who are we think in, but could be on the pairwise bubble, how potentially having to play an extra game in the hockey tournament or not could affect things positively or negatively for the bubble, right?
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: We don't really know what makes it sort of interesting.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Um, I think the obvious series that jumps out is UMass and UMass Lowell.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: That's a Thursday, Saturday.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Those are the two teams on the bubble right now.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: It's a shrinking bubble in terms of the national picture.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: So that's obviously very important.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Who comes out of that finishing as the sixth highest hockeys team versus the seventh?
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: But I kind of want to look at Merrimack Providence for a second.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Merrimack keeps hanging around this cluster that we're talking about.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: They've won three of their last four now.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: We've seen them beat BU.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: We've seen them beat UMass in January.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: They beat BC, obviously, in early January.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: They swept UConn back in November, which that could be huge for potential tiebreaker scenarios, right?
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Who knows?
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: So they enter this weekend just two points back of Providence in Hockey East.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: I'm really interested to see what this Warriors team does with Providence.
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: We've talked a lot about Providence.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: I feel like, you know, we've seen some high highs.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: We've seen some times where they've struggled to get their scoring touch.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: They've obviously been down Connolly a little bit at times.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: Um I'm kind of really interested to see what Merrimack can do right in that cluster of things in hockey east this weekend.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and they're not separated by many points in the standings with Providence College, who they'll have a head-to-head with a home and home series.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: It's two points separating those two teams as we enter the weekend.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: And it's for PC, they're coming off a win over UMass Lowell four to two.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Phillips Fedback had another good game.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, one of those goals he gave up was on a penalty shot.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: So that's always makes things a little bit more difficult.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: Um, and they were without Trevor Connolly again in that game against UMass Lowell.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: He skated in warm-ups, didn't end up playing in the game.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: He struggled with injuries throughout the season.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: So uh still to be determined whether or not he will be in the lineup for Merrimack.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, and he's somebody that's very key on the power play for them.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: We'll take some short shifts on the other side when we come back.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Welcome back inside this week in Hockey East.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: It's time to take some short shifts presented by the shift group, helping former athletes and veterans become elite business professionals.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: And of course, Eric, let's talk about the goalies.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, we've talked about this a little bit, but I just kind of wanted to put into historic context just how well um Jacob Fowler and Alvin Boya have played this year, right?
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: Theoretically, you're gonna be picking between those two for the hockey's goalie of the year.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Um, you look at their numbers side by side, and it's pretty close, right?
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Fowler slightly better save percentage, Boya slightly better goals against average, Jacob Fowler has a few more shutouts.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: The thing that really stands out to me though, so Fowler, 937 save percentage, 173 goals against Boya, 931 save percentage, 164 goals against.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: There have only been five times in the last 20 years that a hockey east goalie has finished a season with a sub-175 goals against average.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: It's only happened five times.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Devin Levi in 2022, Philip Lindbergh on his way to leading UMass to a national championship in 2021, and in 2019 he did it as well.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Both of those he didn't, obviously he was splitting time with Matt Murray, so it's not as many games, but nevertheless, impressive.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Then you go all the way back to Hellibuck in 2013 and Parker Milner in 2012.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: There's a chance we could have two guys do it this year.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: It's only happened five times in the last 20 years, a sub-175 goals against average by Hockey's goalie.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: And as of right now, it's tracking to happen twice.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: So just to show the remarkable years that Jacob Fowler and Alvin Boya have had.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: And what I'm looking at for my short shift this week is we just got the announcement of the all-rookie team and a few really major awards in Hockey East on the women's side now that the regular season is over.
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: And some of the things that stuck out to me was there are so many good rookies in this conference.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: When you look at who makes this team, this is a team that could beat other teams made up of your veterans and players that have been here a little bit longer.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Lisa Junson in net for Northeastern is the uh goalie on this all-rookie team.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: And Northeastern has a few selections here, too.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: But Kendell, one of the defenders, Eloise Carran forward.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: And then another unanimous selection to this team was Claire Murdoch, who's had a great first year with UConn and maybe could be instrumental to their playoff run as they start to try to defend their title from last year.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: You mentioned Gia Quinto, the defender of the year.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: She's one of those shutdown but also offensive-minded defensemen.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: She's got a lot to her game.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: And then best offensive forward is a player that is kind of unsung because this is a player in Hannah Johnson that's on a line with Audrey Knapp and Riken Kirchmeyer, who are putting up all these numbers.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: And she's just in the background, assisting and winning face-offs and playing really good defense to help that provenance team go on a really strong run in the second half.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: And then the sportsmanship award goes to Ray Sott.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: She's somebody who does a lot of community service.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: She plays for a Merrimack.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: And the runner-up was Carrie Clority of Boston College, another person who's involved with the community.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: And then to look at the ones that are based off of your actual stats, the hockey east scoring champion is Riken Kirchmeyer for her 30 points this season.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Sammy Tabor and Audrey Knapp were right behind her with 28 points, but Riken having another really good season.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: And then Tia Chan, based on the numbers, goals against average, best in hockey east, save percentage, best in hockey east.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: And so she is the Hockey East goalie of the year.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: It is the best time of year.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: It's award season, but more importantly, it is playoff season.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Bunch of great games on Saturday coming up next here on Nesson is our Friday night hockey East game of the week between Boston College and New Hampshire.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Thanks so much for joining us for another episode of This Week in Hockey East.
