- 0:002 Corinthians chapter 3, I read this passage
- 0:04in our seniors gathering, and we didn't mention
- 0:08seniors in our small groups because seniors'
- 0:11small group runs every week, not just for this
- 0:15six weeks, but we would love for as many of you
- 0:17to come if you've never been. We would love for
- 0:20you to come. God is doing a wonderful thing on
- 0:23Wednesdays at 1 o 'clock at the Cubettes' home.
- 0:28And any of you seniors are welcome to come to
- 0:32that. And if you're not a senior, but you consider
- 0:35yourself a senior for an hour or two, and you're
- 0:38free on Wednesday at one o 'clock, you can come
- 0:41too. Isn't that right? Oh, you said 55 and older?
- 0:48Well, I'm 53, so that might leave me out. Okay,
- 0:5550 plus, okay. But God is doing a unique thing
- 1:00in that group. And every time we gather, his
- 1:04presence is overwhelming and is touching people.
- 1:08And it is not just for us to experience the presence
- 1:11of the Lord, but for us to be used by God in
- 1:15intercession and prayer. And God is using our
- 1:18seniors in intercession and prayer in a unique
- 1:21way every Wednesday afternoon at one o 'clock.
- 1:27I read this passage there, and I'm going to read
- 1:30it again here as we walk through what the Lord
- 1:33has for us this morning. Verse 7. how will the
- 1:56ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?
- 2:02Well, this is phenomenal for Paul to write because
- 2:08before he met Jesus on the road to Damascus,
- 2:12Paul, who then went by his Hebrew name Saul,
- 2:18he later switched to his Roman name Paul. And
- 2:23Saul, on the road to Damascus, before he encountered
- 2:27Christ, was a master of the law. He was a Pharisee
- 2:35of Pharisees, as for zeal in his faith, persecuting
- 2:41the church, persecuting those walking in the
- 2:46new covenant, living in the old covenant himself.
- 2:51And now look what he called the ministry of the
- 2:55old covenant. Paul calls the ministry of the
- 3:00old covenant, the ministry of death. That's pretty
- 3:06strong, isn't it? For Saul, a master of all 640
- 3:13some laws of the Old Testament, a master of them
- 3:17to call it the ministry of death. He realized
- 3:21something. He realized that the ministry of the
- 3:25law would never save anybody. He realized that
- 3:31the ministry of the law could never transform
- 3:34anybody. That as much as people would conform
- 3:39their outward lives to try to follow the law,
- 3:44they never could. And they would end up needing
- 3:49another sacrifice and another sacrifice. and
- 3:53another sacrifice, and another sacrifice, and
- 3:56they would never get where they were going. And
- 4:01he called it a ministry of death. That's pretty
- 4:06strong, isn't it? Ministry of death. And he's
- 4:11saying this, the ministry of death came with
- 4:17glory. And that glory was pretty powerful. I
- 4:22won't take the time. to turn to all the scriptures
- 4:26that we walked through in the seniors meeting,
- 4:30but we looked at the life of Moses, and Moses'
- 4:34first encounter with glory was at the burning
- 4:38bush in Exodus chapter 3. And he saw this bush
- 4:42that was on fire but not being consumed. It just
- 4:44kept burning and burning and burning. And he
- 4:47walked up to it and God spoke to him out of that
- 4:50burning bush and said, Moses, take off your sandals
- 4:52for the place where you are standing is holy
- 4:55ground. How many of you would say that was glory?
- 4:58That was glory. Then later on, after the deliverance
- 5:02from Egypt, In Exodus chapter 24, the Bible says
- 5:07that Moses and the 70 elders and Aaron and Nadab
- 5:11and Abihu, they approached God and they saw the
- 5:16God of Israel and he looked like he had sapphire
- 5:21underneath him and God served them a meal and
- 5:25there before God, while they were looking at
- 5:29him, they ate and they drank. That's pretty powerful,
- 5:33isn't it? And then we read later in Exodus chapter
- 5:3734 that when Moses meets with God, something
- 5:41unique begins to happen. His face begins to glow.
- 5:47And why? Why did his face glow? Because he had
- 5:51been with the Lord so many times that his own
- 5:55countenance was taking on the same countenance
- 5:58of God. And the glory that he experienced when
- 6:03he was with the Lord rubbed off on him and he
- 6:08began to glow. His skin began to glow. It scared
- 6:12the Israelites. And so he would take a veil and
- 6:15he would put it on his face. And that veil that
- 6:19he put on his face would make it so the Israelites
- 6:23could approach him without trembling. And wondering,
- 6:27it sounds like something straight out of sci
- 6:29-fi, doesn't it? But it was the glory of God
- 6:33resting on Moses. And when he would go into the
- 6:37Lord, he would take the veil off to meet with
- 6:40God. And then when he would talk with the people,
- 6:43he would put the veil back on and cover his face.
- 6:49And then we went to Exodus chapter 40. When the
- 6:53tabernacle of Moses was being dedicated and the
- 6:58glory of God so filled the tabernacle that not
- 7:04even Moses could go into the tabernacle because
- 7:09the glory of God was so strong. Others mention
- 7:14different times in the Old Testament when the
- 7:17glory of God appeared. The dedication of Solomon's
- 7:20temple. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Daniel
- 7:24in the lion's den. You can probably think of
- 7:27a dozen other times where the glory of God was
- 7:31displayed under the ministry of the Old Testament.
- 7:39So Paul is writing here, he's saying this is
- 7:42the ministry of death, written and engraved on
- 7:45stones. It was glorious. And how many of you
- 7:51would agree that those things that I just described
- 7:55are fantastically glorious? Hallelujah. But then
- 8:02in verse 8, Paul says something amazing. How?
- 8:08will the ministry of the Spirit be more glorious?
- 8:18And I want to tell you this morning, because
- 8:21we can get used to, those of you that have been
- 8:24coming to church week after week after week,
- 8:26we can get used to and numb to what is happening.
- 8:34But what is happening when God ministers by His
- 8:39Spirit is more glorious happening in this room
- 8:47right now than what Moses experienced. Some of
- 8:56you think, well, how could that be? It's the
- 9:00power of the new covenant. Because the new covenant
- 9:06is not like the old covenant. Because Jesus fulfilled.
- 9:11He was the only one that ever did. He fulfilled
- 9:15the law. And when he was crucified, that old
- 9:20covenant came to an end. You say, well, why did
- 9:24he have to die? Why did Jesus have to die? It's
- 9:29like a marriage. You are in covenant with your
- 9:33spouse until there is a death. And then you are
- 9:37freed from that covenant. Well, Jesus spent the...
- 9:43The three years that he was ministering, establishing
- 9:47the new covenant. And when he shed his blood
- 9:51and he said it is finished on the cross, the
- 9:54power of the old covenant was done. Hallelujah.
- 10:00And the new covenant was put into effect, hallelujah,
- 10:04by the blood of the lamb that Jesus, Jesus was
- 10:09that lamb, by his perfect blood, hallelujah,
- 10:12the new covenant was brought into effect. And
- 10:16guess what now, friends? Jesus, because he's
- 10:19a perfect sacrifice, does not have to die over
- 10:22and over and over and over again, hallelujah.
- 10:28Somebody give God praise this morning. Somebody
- 10:31give God praise. It is more glorious. Let's keep
- 10:37reading verse 9. For if the ministry of condemnation
- 10:41had glory. You're a failure. You're a failure.
- 10:46You're a failure. You're a failure. It came with
- 10:50glory. The ministry of righteousness. Because
- 10:54one thing that happened on that cross. My sin.
- 10:59My sin was placed on Jesus. And guess what was
- 11:06placed on me? His righteousness. A divine exchange.
- 11:15If the ministry of condemnation had glory, the
- 11:21ministry of righteousness exceeds much more.
- 11:26Everybody say much more in glory. Hallelujah.
- 11:32For even what was made glorious had no glory
- 11:36in this respect because of the glory that excels.
- 11:40For if what was passing away was glorious, what
- 11:47remains is much more glorious. Therefore, since
- 11:54we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech.
- 11:59Unlike Moses, Who put a veil over his face so
- 12:04that the children of Israel could not look steadily
- 12:06at what was passing away. Their minds were blinded.
- 12:12For until this day, the same veil remains unlifted
- 12:16in the reading of the Old Testament. Because
- 12:18the veil is taken away in Christ. Paul even talking
- 12:26about this. Because on the road to Damascus,
- 12:29he had an encounter with the glory of God. And
- 12:32what happened to him? The veil was taken away.
- 12:37Hallelujah. He had heard of Jesus. He was persecuting
- 12:41Christians for following Jesus. But he had a
- 12:44veil over his mind. And every time he read the
- 12:48Old Testament, it did not make sense to him.
- 12:51But he had an encounter with the risen Savior
- 12:55whose name is Jesus. And the veil was removed
- 12:59and he could see. Hallelujah. The veil is taken
- 13:05away in Christ. But even to this day when Moses
- 13:10is read, a veil lies on their heart. A veil lies
- 13:18on their heart. I wasn't planning on doing this,
- 13:22but I feel moved by the Holy Spirit right now
- 13:26to pray for the nation Israel. Will you join
- 13:31with me for a moment? Lord, there are many people
- 13:36of Israel, your chosen, that know you. They are
- 13:40Messianic Christians. And I thank you for that.
- 13:45But there are so many more that this is still
- 13:50true. There is a veil over their heart. And I
- 13:56ask in Jesus' name that you would remove the
- 14:01veil, that you would cause Israel to be saved.
- 14:08Lord, even as there is so much in the news about
- 14:11Israel, about... Benjamin Netanyahu's speech
- 14:14and what is happening on the Gaza Strip and opinions
- 14:18are so varied and all over the map. God, they
- 14:24are still your chosen people. And we are asking,
- 14:28Lord, for the peace of Jerusalem. We're asking
- 14:32God for the veil that is on Israel to be removed
- 14:36and lifted in the name of Jesus. Hallelujah.
- 14:41Hallelujah. Lord, it was the Jewish people that
- 14:44brought forth our Messiah, Jesus, who is forever
- 14:49Jewish. And Lord, we bless the nation of Israel,
- 14:54not because they are perfect and everything they
- 14:56do is right, but because they are your people.
- 14:59And we bless the nation of Israel right now in
- 15:04Jesus' name. Hallelujah. Even to this day when
- 15:10Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Verse
- 15:1416, nevertheless, when one turns to the Lord,
- 15:17the veil is taken away. Now you might not have
- 15:22grown up knowing the law. You might have grown
- 15:25up in a very secular place. You might have grown
- 15:29up... in a place that didn't even care about
- 15:32religion, or didn't go to church, or maybe you
- 15:36went to church, but you went to a religious church
- 15:39that didn't talk about Jesus, didn't talk about
- 15:42having a relationship with him, and though you
- 15:45did not have the veil like Paul had it, or like
- 15:50the Jewish people had it, you still had a veil
- 15:52over your life because you were in the dark.
- 15:56But when you came to Christ, hallelujah, you
- 15:59became, 2 Corinthians 5, 17, a new creation,
- 16:03hallelujah. The old is past, and the new has
- 16:07come. When one turns to the Lord, the veil is
- 16:12taken away, hallelujah. The Lord is the Spirit,
- 16:16and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
- 16:20liberty. Somebody give God praise this morning.
- 16:24Hallelujah. And then we get to my text. So that
- 16:30was my 20 -minute introduction. But we all, with
- 16:36unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory
- 16:42of the Lord, are being transformed into the same
- 16:46image from glory to glory just as by the Spirit
- 16:52of the Lord. Hallelujah. This is a verse. That
- 16:59as my wife has been saying lately, I have been
- 17:02chewing the cud on. I have been just living in
- 17:11it. Making it my aim to daily take time to behold
- 17:20Him. To behold Him. My goal for this message
- 17:28is to put salt on your tongue. To cause you to
- 17:37hunger and thirst for the living presence of
- 17:41God. For the glory of God. To learn the art of
- 17:49beholding Him. To learn the discipline of looking
- 17:58upon Him. The glory of God. We saw Moses go from
- 18:05glory to glory till the glory was so strong that
- 18:08he could not even enter in. Glory. The Old Testament
- 18:15word for glory is kabod. It means weightiness.
- 18:22The weight of God. It means that where his presence
- 18:34is, there his glory is. And I have to... differentiate
- 18:41between two different kinds of presence of the
- 18:44Lord. There is his omnipresence. God is everywhere.
- 18:47There is nowhere you can't go that God is not.
- 18:50He is there. He has the ability. He's the only
- 18:53one. Now, let me tell you something. Satan is
- 18:55not omnipresent. Satan can only be in one place
- 18:59at one time. God is omnipresent. He can be everywhere
- 19:04at the same time. But his manifest presence is
- 19:08not like that. His manifest presence is where
- 19:13he displays his glory. Hallelujah. Now, we read
- 19:18in the Old Testament about times where his glory
- 19:20came and there was a cloud and there was fire.
- 19:23And we see some of that in the New Testament.
- 19:25In Acts chapter 2, when they were baptized with
- 19:28the Holy Spirit, the fire of God came into the
- 19:31ceiling of the room, separated, and a tongue
- 19:35came to rest. A tongue of fire came to rest on
- 19:38each person. That is a physical manifestation
- 19:41of the glory of God. We saw that on the road
- 19:45to Damascus. There was a voice from heaven and
- 19:49it thundered and that's a physical manifestation
- 19:53of the glory of God. I have never personally
- 19:58seen a glory cloud, but I have heard of services
- 20:02where people are gathering and they are worshiping
- 20:05and the presence of God comes so strong that
- 20:08a mist appears in the room that everybody can
- 20:12see. Anybody ever heard any testimonies like
- 20:16that before? That's the glory of God. But can
- 20:20I tell you that God manifests his glory in other
- 20:24ways as well? In John chapter 2, in John chapter
- 20:312, Jesus turns the water into wine. The Bible
- 20:38says, at the end of that story, I believe around
- 20:42verse 11, the book of John says this, and so
- 20:48Jesus manifested his glory. Now, there was no
- 20:56glory cloud. There was nothing that people could
- 21:02see, but it was a miracle. It was a miracle.
- 21:08And when Jesus performed the miracle, the Bible
- 21:12says he displayed his glory. Hallelujah. It doesn't
- 21:20just have to be a cloud or fire or something
- 21:24strange and mystical that can be seen with the
- 21:29eyes. But sometimes God manifests his glory in
- 21:33very small ways and also in very big ways. Can
- 21:37I tell you this? Answered prayer is a manifestation
- 21:41of the glory of God. When God shows up and does
- 21:48something in your life, that's a manifestation
- 21:51of the glory of God. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
- 21:55Can I tell you one time I was at my office, and
- 21:59this was in Galesburg when I was assistant pastor,
- 22:03and the Lord gave me a scripture verse. Cammie
- 22:07and I had been praying about direction for our
- 22:10lives. And the Lord gave me a scripture verse
- 22:13out of the life of David. And I thought that
- 22:17when I went home, it was going to disappoint
- 22:20my wife because it was not the word that I wanted
- 22:23to hear in the moment for our family. And so
- 22:28I'm carrying this word and I go home and I am
- 22:34speaking to my wife. I say, the Lord spoke to
- 22:38me today. We've been asking for direction. And
- 22:43she said, that's interesting. She said, before
- 22:46you tell me what God spoke to you today, I want
- 22:50to tell you what God spoke to me today. And she
- 22:54opened up her Bible to the exact same verse.
- 23:01And she read to me the exact same verse. And
- 23:07she said, I don't know if you're going to like
- 23:10this, Darren, or not. But this is what God spoke
- 23:14to me about the direction for our family. Can
- 23:20I tell you something in that moment what I was
- 23:22experiencing? The glory of God who went before
- 23:28me, prepared my wife's heart. In fact, spoke
- 23:33to her the exact same thing that he had spoken
- 23:38to me that day. That's the glory of God. Can
- 23:42I tell you about another time? I was in Bible
- 23:45college, and I liked Bible college because my
- 23:49wife used to make cookies back then and mail
- 23:51them to me. And now she's learned how bad cookies
- 23:55are for you. And that just, that has nothing
- 24:03to do with my message. It's just a memory that
- 24:05came to my mind. When I first went to Bible college,
- 24:10I had a broken foot. I came to Bible college
- 24:13with a cast. on my foot. And I hobbled around
- 24:19on crutches for four weeks. And then I went to
- 24:22the doctor, and the doctor removed the cast.
- 24:26And I had had a stress fracture in my foot. And
- 24:31when the doctor removed the cast, he said, now
- 24:33listen, you need to take it easy for the next
- 24:35three to four weeks. And I went back to the school
- 24:42that night, and I took a basketball into the
- 24:51gym, and I ran up and down the gym floor for
- 24:56three hours playing basketball with my friends.
- 25:01And I would have played longer, except at the
- 25:05end of the third hour, I think I could hear it
- 25:08with my ears. My foot went snap. I had rebroken
- 25:15my foot. It swelled up. And I said, Darren, What
- 25:21an idiot you are. I was dreading calling my mom
- 25:27and dad who paid for the first cast. I could
- 25:34not think about even talking with them because
- 25:42I was going to have to go through another five
- 25:44weeks of a cast. And guess who was probably going
- 25:49to have to pay for it? And I didn't call them
- 25:53and I went to bed that night. And I was frustrated.
- 26:00I was feeling... condemnation and shame, perhaps
- 26:05rightly so. And about two in the morning, I woke
- 26:12up startled because God was in my room. And I
- 26:21woke up because my foot was on fire. And I went
- 26:30from a dead sleep to fully 100 % awake in about
- 26:34five seconds. And I realized immediately what
- 26:39was happening. God was in my room. God was healing
- 26:45my foot. And all I could do was get out of my
- 26:50bed and bow down before the Lord and worship
- 26:54him. His glory had come into my dorm room and
- 27:01my foot was fully 100 % healed. The swelling
- 27:08went down, and I have never had another issue
- 27:11with my foot since that day. It was the glory
- 27:15of God that visited me. I'm just talking freely
- 27:21about moments after we were married and had moved
- 27:27to Galesburg, and we had a family living above
- 27:30us in that house. a duplex upstairs, downstairs.
- 27:37And it was always noisy. And so I went down in
- 27:40the basement and I built, I actually built a
- 27:43kneeling altar down in the basement. And I used
- 27:46to go down there and I used to meet with God
- 27:50down there. And the glory of God would fill that
- 27:56basement, nasty basement, spider webs everywhere.
- 28:01But the glory of God would come. and meet with
- 28:07me. And I would just sit in that place, just
- 28:13worshiping. It became my spot. And I would go
- 28:20there daily, and I would experience the glory
- 28:24of God. The glory of God. The first thing that
- 28:34we see in this passage, in verse 18, it says,
- 28:40but we all. Those three words change everything.
- 28:49This is the entire difference between the old
- 28:51covenant and the new covenant. But we all. The
- 29:02old covenant was for the Moseses. It was for
- 29:07the Abrahams. It was for the Davids, the Elijahs.
- 29:13Really, the ones that God met with in the old
- 29:17covenant were the prophets, the priests, and
- 29:20the kings. Everybody else was left in the dark.
- 29:30They were on the outside looking in. But the
- 29:36new covenant changes everything. But we all,
- 29:43we all, there is nobody in this room that cannot
- 29:54experience the presence of God. He does not favor
- 30:04the pastor. over anybody else. And I do believe
- 30:09in the functions and the gifts of the Holy Spirit
- 30:11that make us different in function in the body.
- 30:15I do believe in them. But every single one of
- 30:20us can experience the glory and the presence
- 30:24of the living God. Hallelujah. We all, but we
- 30:33all, oh, glory to Jesus. And so Jesus became
- 30:40a rabbi when he turned 30. And he began to select
- 30:45his disciples. And all the other rabbis that
- 30:49were leaders in the nation of Israel, when they
- 30:54selected the people that they would call their
- 30:57disciples, they went to the education system
- 31:00and they selected the ones that were chosen for
- 31:04further education and further education. And
- 31:07they chose the cream of the crop to be their
- 31:11disciples. But I want you to hear what Jesus
- 31:15does when he chooses his disciples. And Jesus,
- 31:20walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers.
- 31:25Simon called Peter and Andrew, his brother, casting
- 31:30a net into the sea, for they were fishermen.
- 31:36Jesus does not choose disciples like everybody
- 31:40else chooses disciples. These are men that only
- 31:45had the first level of education, and because
- 31:48they were not the cream of the crop, they could
- 31:51not move forward, and so they were assigned the
- 31:54profession of their father. Now, the world needs
- 31:58fishermen, and so it was not like they were people
- 32:04that were unproductive in society, but they were
- 32:08not the high people of society. And Jesus looks
- 32:13at them and says, follow me, I will make you
- 32:16fishers of men. And they immediately left their
- 32:19nets and followed him. And going on from there,
- 32:23he saw two other brothers, James, son of Zebedee,
- 32:27and John, his brother, in the boat with Zebedee,
- 32:30their father, mending their nets, two other fishermen.
- 32:34And he called them. And immediately they left
- 32:40the boat and their father and followed Jesus.
- 32:45But we all, the 12 that eventually established
- 32:53the church. And you think of Simon here, Andrew's
- 32:58brother, who was later called Peter. And how
- 33:01Peter in Acts chapter 5. Would walk down the
- 33:05road. And his shadow would touch the sick. And
- 33:09his shadow would raise the sick. Up off of their
- 33:13sick bed. Hallelujah. Why was that? Because of
- 33:17this. But we all. Hallelujah. This fisherman
- 33:21that left his nets was transformed over three
- 33:26years of time. He was transformed when he was
- 33:29baptized in the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter 2.
- 33:32He was transformed from glory to glory to the
- 33:36point where he walked down the road and the sick
- 33:39were healed in the name of Jesus. Hallelujah.
- 33:44Can I tell you that was not the glory of Peter.
- 33:46That was the glory of God that was on Peter.
- 33:49And Peter reflecting that glory. And Moses, his
- 33:53face shown. But Peter, his shadow healed people.
- 33:57Hallelujah. It's the glory of God that got on
- 34:00him. Hallelujah. I'm believing for a church that
- 34:05will rise up with the glory of God on them. The
- 34:09glory of God on the house. Hallelujah. Jesus!
- 34:15I feel God in the place. And so these disciples,
- 34:24they were chosen. They were hanging out with
- 34:27Jesus. And Matthew 17 says, after six days, Jesus
- 34:32took Peter, James, and John, his brother, led
- 34:36them up on a mountain by themselves, and he was
- 34:39transfigured before them. Following John's journey
- 34:47for a moment, Jesus' face shone. like the sun.
- 34:56And his clothes became as white as the light.
- 35:02How many of you think that this is glory? This
- 35:06is the glory of God. Do you know the end of the
- 35:10book of Revelation when there is a new heavens
- 35:12and a new earth? That there will be no sun? That
- 35:17we will not have a sun that the new earth revolves
- 35:19around because The glory that is on the face
- 35:24of Jesus will light up the whole world. It's
- 35:29the glory of God. And for a moment, Peter and
- 35:34James and John, as Jesus is transfigured, and
- 35:38Moses and Elijah meets them on the mountain,
- 35:40they experience the glory of Jesus. And then
- 35:54John. We could follow John. We could talk a lot
- 35:57about John. But one more, John on the island
- 36:02of Patmos, in Revelation chapter 1, he heard
- 36:09a voice. In verse 12 says, I turned to see the
- 36:14voice that spoke with me. And having turned,
- 36:19I saw seven golden lampstands in the midst of
- 36:21the seven lampstands, one like the Son of Man,
- 36:24clothed with the garment down to the feet, and
- 36:26girded about the chest with a golden band. His
- 36:29head and hair were white like wool, eyes like
- 36:32snow, his eyes like a flame of fire, his feet
- 36:35were like fine brass as if refined in a furnace,
- 36:38and his voice as the sound of many waters. He
- 36:41had in his right hand seven stars, and out of
- 36:44his mouth went a sharp two -edged sword, and
- 36:47his countenance was like the sun shining in its
- 36:50strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet
- 36:55as though dead. From glory to glory. Ordinary
- 37:09fishermen going from glory to glory. But we all,
- 37:23there are levels of the glory of God. That's
- 37:28why we go from glory to glory. Did you know that
- 37:34your destiny, Is tied in with the glory of God.
- 37:40Your destiny. Because it is in the glory of God.
- 37:46Whether it is in the quietness of your own home.
- 37:50Where you are encountering Jesus. And maybe even
- 37:54nothing dramatic happened. We're talking about
- 37:56dramatic moments here. And I've had some dramatic
- 38:00moments in my life. But it is the day in day
- 38:03out pursuit of God. And wanting to be with him.
- 38:08where most of the transformation in my life happens.
- 38:12But it is in the glory of God that transformation
- 38:17happens. Isn't that what the verse says? We behold
- 38:26as in a mirror the glory of the Lord and are
- 38:29transformed into His image. Transformed into
- 38:38His image. The glory of God, His presence, is
- 38:44not given to you simply to make you feel better.
- 38:49Have you ever experienced goosebumps in the presence
- 38:52of God? All the time, I feel, I sense His presence,
- 38:57and I go, wow, and my body responds to that,
- 39:00but it is not for the purpose of you feeling
- 39:04something necessarily that God displays His presence.
- 39:09It is for you to be transformed Into his image.
- 39:18And that is your destiny. To become like Christ.
- 39:23Now this doesn't mean you don't retain your own
- 39:25individual personality. But God is working with
- 39:29you as an individual to make you more and more
- 39:33like Jesus. Amen? And Romans chapter 8 says,
- 39:40verse 29. For whom God foreknew, he predestined
- 39:45to be conformed to the image of his Son, that
- 39:51he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
- 39:54And so he has chosen you to become like Christ.
- 39:59Hallelujah. Just like he chose Peter and James
- 40:03and Andrew and Simon and John. Just like he chose
- 40:08them, he's chosen you. To become like Christ.
- 40:12Hallelujah. Now there is. Something that happens
- 40:16in the presence of the Lord, and one of the most
- 40:18dramatic illustrations is in Isaiah chapter 6.
- 40:24And Isaiah, I'm wanting to wind this down in
- 40:27the next five minutes, and so I'm not going to
- 40:29take the time to read it. But Isaiah, in Isaiah
- 40:326 verse 1, in the year that King Uzziah died,
- 40:35I saw the Lord high and lifted up, and the train
- 40:38of his robe filled the temple. And Isaiah saw
- 40:43the glory of God. And if you read down a few
- 40:46verses, you'll find that something happens. That
- 40:49Isaiah, when he's in the presence of God, he
- 40:53makes a statement. He says, Woe is me, for I
- 40:58am a man of unclean lips. I come from a people
- 41:02of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King,
- 41:06the Lord Almighty. And God does something interesting
- 41:11because he could have squashed Isaiah right then
- 41:14and said, you're right. You're not worthy to
- 41:16be in my presence. But that's not what God does.
- 41:19What God does is he sends an angel to take a
- 41:22tongue and dip it into the fire and get a coal
- 41:26out of that fire. And you know what that represents?
- 41:29That represents the blood of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah.
- 41:32And he touches Isaiah. He touches his lips and
- 41:37burns his lips. God says, see, I have taken away
- 41:41your sin. Glory to God. And so that's a dramatic
- 41:46expression. And then God calls Isaiah and he
- 41:49says, here am I, send me. And so it's an awesome,
- 41:53awesome moment. Okay, but this is what happens
- 41:56in the presence of the Lord. In the presence
- 41:58of the Lord, when God shows up, you see two things.
- 42:02One, you see his greatness. And the other thing
- 42:06you see, is your own frailty. It might be a sin
- 42:14that God puts his finger on. God has been putting
- 42:18his finger in my life on selfish ambition, doing
- 42:27things to be seen by men. And I have been repenting
- 42:33because it's a false motivation. It's a pharisaical
- 42:38motivation to do things to be seen by men. Jesus
- 42:43says, if that's your motivation, then you've
- 42:46already received your reward. And I've been confessing
- 42:50to God because it crops up. I want to be seen
- 42:55by men. I want men to tell me how good I am at
- 42:58this or that. And God says, you've already received
- 43:03your reward. But you know what happens when I'm
- 43:05in the presence of God? I see his beauty and
- 43:08I see how he laid his life down for me. And then
- 43:11I see my own sin. And it's there in his presence
- 43:16that I confess that. And it's there in his presence
- 43:19that he does not reject me. He did not reject
- 43:22Isaiah. He's not going to reject you. And he
- 43:28cleanses you. And he takes that thing out of
- 43:32your life so that you are more like Jesus. From
- 43:38glory to glory, being transformed into his image.
- 43:45And it seems like I go through seasons where
- 43:47God deals with this area of my life. And then
- 43:50He deals with this area of my life. And then
- 43:53He deals with this area of my life. But He is
- 43:56transforming me into the image of God. When I
- 44:00am with Jesus, I become like Jesus. That's the
- 44:07whole deal right there. I'm in His presence.
- 44:13I become like him. Jesus said, how many of you
- 44:19know John 3 .16? How many of you know the verses
- 44:24after John 3 .16? After John 3 .16, the Bible
- 44:29says that men love darkness rather than light.
- 44:34And because their deeds were evil, they avoid
- 44:37coming into the light. And there have been times
- 44:43where there has been stuff in my life that I
- 44:47have avoided. the presence of God because I want
- 44:53to hang on to my stuff. When your deeds are evil,
- 44:59you avoid the presence of God because it will
- 45:02shine a light on it. But if you love the presence
- 45:09of God, you will crave the light of his presence,
- 45:15the glory of his presence. Hallelujah. How do
- 45:22I know this is what I'm destined to be? I've
- 45:28got a lot more to preach, but I'm going to wind
- 45:30this down with this verse. 1 John 3 .2. This
- 45:36is John writing his first letter. Beloved, now
- 45:48we are the children of God. It has not yet been
- 45:54revealed what we shall be, but we know that when
- 46:00He is revealed, We shall be like him, for we
- 46:10shall see him as he is. When the trumpet sounds,
- 46:19and Jesus returns, and you are caught up in the
- 46:25air together with him, and you see him, because
- 46:30you see him. You behold him not as in a mirror
- 46:35anymore. I didn't get to that part. We see now
- 46:37dimly as in a mirror, but then we see face to
- 46:41face. You see him face to face. Guess what's
- 46:44going to happen? Your transformation. You've
- 46:46been journeying this whole life, but your transformation
- 46:50into the image of Christ will be complete. We
- 46:54shall see him and we shall be like him. Glory
- 46:59to God. I am looking forward to heaven for a
- 47:02lot of reasons, but this struggle, this struggle
- 47:05called discipleship, it will be over. I will
- 47:09be like Christ. Remember raising children, and
- 47:19when they had done something wrong, you know
- 47:26what they didn't like doing? Looking me in the
- 47:31eye, and I would say, look at me, and they didn't
- 47:46like looking at me. What happened when they Finally,
- 47:54locked eyes with me. And I could see into their
- 48:01heart. And I would say, tell me. In that moment,
- 48:09they would share the truth. That's oftentimes
- 48:19why we avoid God. We hang out. We watch others
- 48:26worship. We watch others enter in. Because our
- 48:36own eyes can't lock with God. But God is saying
- 48:42this morning. Look at me. Look at me. I want
- 48:48you to experience my presence. It is in my presence
- 48:57that transformation comes from glory to glory.
- 49:07His presence is a place of rest. His presence
- 49:11is a place of trust. His presence is a place
- 49:14of refuge. three of those things also serve to
- 49:19bring transformation, not just conviction. How
- 49:24many of you would join me and say, I want to
- 49:27be like Christ? When we pray and we say, God,
- 49:31give us more of your glory on this house. It
- 49:35isn't just because we want the fantastical, like
- 49:39we like reading some book that gives us chills.
- 49:44It's because It's in His presence that the church
- 49:48is transformed into what it is called to be.
- 49:52It's in His presence that new believers come
- 49:55in and they're touched by His presence. We're
- 49:59not here entertaining people. We're here entertaining
- 50:03God. That's it. And His glory and His presence
- 50:07comes. And lives are changed because of His glory.
- 50:18We go from glory to glory, being transformed
- 50:22into the image of the same. Jesus, have your
- 50:30way. Jesus, have your way. I went longer than
- 50:37I intended to today. I've preached for 52 minutes.
- 50:42But can we pause for a moment? And can we say,
- 50:47God, give us more of your glory. Cause your presence
- 50:52to be ours, our portion. Lord, we don't want
- 50:57to stay stagnant. God, we don't want to just
- 51:06drift through our Christianity. Jesus, we want
- 51:13to move from glory to glory. God, I'm not expecting
- 51:19a Moses -type encounter every time I pray. Lord,
- 51:25I'm hungry for you. In that song that Brianna
- 51:30taught this morning, God, we need a move of God.
- 51:37We're hungry for your presence. We're hungry
- 51:42for your presence. Lord, have your way. Have
- 51:52your way. Have your way. And I will make room
- 51:59for you to do whatever you want to. Do whatever
- 52:10you want to. And I will make room for you. To
- 52:22do whatever you want to Do whatever you want
- 52:30to One more time. I will make room for you To
- 52:39do whatever you want to Do whatever you want
- 52:46to Shake up the ground Of all my tradition. Break
- 52:54down the walls. Of all my religion. Your way
- 52:59is better. Your way is better. And I will make
- 53:07room for you. To do whatever you want to. Do
- 53:17whatever you want to. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
- 53:27If you're here today and you just simply join
- 53:31me in the prayer, the prayer that Moses prayed,
- 53:37God, show me your glory. Jesus, make me more
- 53:44like you. If that's your prayer, I just want
- 53:49you to raise your hand or stand to your feet
- 53:51or just make some kind of response right now
- 53:54to the Lord and say, God, here I am. Here I am.
- 54:00Here I am. Come on. Come on, just respond to
- 54:04him. Because Lord, this is true, not just for
- 54:07us as individuals, but for the church. Lord,
- 54:09see your church hungry for you. See your church
- 54:14hungry for you, God. Take us from glory to glory
- 54:18in Jesus' name. And let's sing it together. We
- 54:24will make room for you to do whatever you want
- 54:32to. Do whatever you want to. And we will make
- 54:39room for you to do whatever you want to. Do whatever
- 54:50you want to. Hallelujah. We make room for you,
- 55:00God, to have your way, to reveal your glory,
- 55:06to show us your presence. Oh God, passion for
- 55:15your presence is one of our pillars here. We
- 55:21need you. We need you. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
- 55:32Hallelujah. Lord, I pray that you would cause
- 55:38us to put action to our standing or lifting up
- 55:44of our hands in the way that we pursue you, in
- 55:51the way that we pray. Can we for a moment just
- 55:55lift up your voice and say, God, let your glory
- 55:57be on this house. Let your glory be on this church.
- 56:02Can we all over this room just lead out in prayer
- 56:05right now? Just lift up your voice right now.
- 56:08Lift up your voice to the Lord. Father, we're
- 56:11hungry for you. Don't be afraid. Don't be afraid
- 56:14of what people around you will think, but just
- 56:17call on the name of the Lord. God, reveal your
- 56:20glory in this place. I pray that this house would
- 56:24be a house not where men get glory, but where
- 56:26God reveals his glory, where God gets all the
- 56:30glory. Hallelujah. It is the glory of Jesus resting
- 56:35upon us. Hallelujah. Oh, we thank you, Father.
- 56:38We thank you, Father. We ask, God, that you would
- 56:42manifest your presence in this place every time
- 56:46we gather, every time we gather. Every time we
- 56:50gather in Jesus' name. I pray, Lord, that we
- 56:53would be a people hungry for you. Hungry for
- 56:57your presence in Jesus' name. Hallelujah. Hallelujah.
- 57:01Hallelujah. Oh, we give you glory, God. Oh, we
- 57:05give you glory, God. Oh, we give you praise in
- 57:09Jesus' mighty name. In Jesus' mighty name. If
- 57:13you agree with that, just... say amen. Amen.
- 57:16In Jesus' name. Give him praise. Yes, Lord. Yes,
- 57:21Lord. Yes, Lord. Yes, Lord. In Jesus' name. Thank
- 57:27you, Father. Thank you, Father. Glory to God.
- 57:33Glory to God. Hallelujah. The Lord has recently
- 57:38spoken to my heart, and he has said, that he
- 57:43just spoken to me and he said, Darren, will you
- 57:45let me use you to rebuild altars? And it's just
- 57:51been an interesting experience with the Lord.
- 57:54I've been reading about altars being rebuilt
- 57:56in the Old Testament. And one of the things that's
- 58:00happening on Wednesday nights is there is a rebuilding
- 58:03of the altar of prayer. And it is a unique thing.
- 58:10I want to encourage as many of you ladies this
- 58:13week as a ladies prayer meeting in here. Come.
- 58:17The men are going to meet in the fellowship hall.
- 58:20Come. Ladies in here, ladies, you have to eat
- 58:22before you come. But the men are going to eat
- 58:26in the fellowship hall. We do have ministry for
- 58:29the children. And so all of us can come. I know
- 58:33it might mean not laying down when you get home
- 58:37on Wednesday night to rest. But it is going to
- 58:42be good. And so we are rebuilding altars. And
- 58:48I want to encourage you to come and help us rebuild
- 58:51the altar. God bless you. Have a great rest of
- 58:54your Monday. Or Sunday. It's Sunday. Your Sunday.
- 59:00Amen.
