- 0:00I missed her. We missed her.
- 0:04You me dead. No, I'm not your dad, but we
- 0:07went to the Ren Fair. To the Ryan Fair.
- 0:10We've Part 2 of gang pleasured at the Ren Fair.
- 0:16We got pleasured at the Ren fair.
- 0:17We frolicked at the Ren Fair. We.
- 0:20Wined and dined technically. And 69.
- 0:23I was kidding. No, I don't.
- 0:25Know where that happened that. Didn't happen.
- 0:26That was a fever dream. A fever dream indeed, because it
- 0:29was almost 100. Degrees.
- 0:31Yes. Yes it was.
- 0:32And dehydrated. Absolutely.
- 0:35Guys, we went to the Ren Fair Part 2.
- 0:36Yay 2026 first of two trips to the Ren Fair.
- 0:40We're doubling up this year. I dare say we actually, we're a
- 0:44little seasoned this time and we're pretty on top of things.
- 0:46Yeah, we showed up on theme. And on time.
- 0:50Yes, we did. Yeah, we got good parking.
- 0:52We. Literally got Princess parking
- 0:54and as soon as we were ready we are walking up to the doors.
- 0:58They had already done the opening ceremony and the long
- 1:01line was gone. Picked up our tickets and walked
- 1:03straight in. Easy.
- 1:08It was so fun and it was hot. It was really hot.
- 1:10Guys like it. What we knew that coming in.
- 1:13So, you know, in terms of layers, we weren't too layered
- 1:15up. I was a little layered up.
- 1:18The theme was pirates opening weekend had a not a dress code.
- 1:21It wasn't mandatory but they do have themed weekends which was
- 1:24pirate and I went in my little peasant shirt and then a black
- 1:29like velvet. Vest.
- 1:31Vest and a wig and you had. A wig, you know, of course I
- 1:36take everything back. It doesn't matter how many
- 1:38layers. I had three layers on.
- 1:39But you had a wig. Yeah, I, I was dying.
- 1:41There was moments where I'm like, this is it, I'm dying at
- 1:43the Ren Fair. If if there's any better place
- 1:47to that like go out it at Renfair.
- 1:50Why not the renfair? I don't know.
- 1:52I don't want to catch like sepsis or something.
- 1:55I caught the plague at the freaking got the plague in
- 1:58Irwindale. At the Santa Fe Dam.
- 2:00Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale, but. This time it was fun and we went
- 2:04with the intent that we were going to make daily BJ content
- 2:08for you guys and that we did. I think we delivered y'all if
- 2:11y'all haven't seen the tik toks brought to you by our DFM Brian.
- 2:16He got off with the edits but the content we recorded is so
- 2:20good. Check it out.
- 2:21Jerry had the genius idea. We sat down prior.
- 2:25We said how are we going to make this content?
- 2:27What are we going to do? We're eating our Somisomi, which
- 2:30is a little ice cream shop that has fish shaped like desserts,
- 2:35kind of. And Jerry beautifully just said.
- 2:40Oh, you're waiting for me to say it.
- 2:44What if we buy fish and we have a segment called speak into the
- 2:47Pike, get speak into the mic, but we buy fake fish.
- 2:52We put the microphones, the tiny microphones, and then we speak
- 2:56into the Pike and. Speak into the Pike we did with
- 3:00the multiple, with multiple people we like, did St.
- 3:03interviews. Yes, we did.
- 3:05That part was hard because we're so shy.
- 3:07Brian and I had to, you know, get over that fear.
- 3:10We had to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
- 3:13And we did that. Yeah, with with help of some
- 3:16liquid. Courage, dehydrated, hardly
- 3:19having a meal before it and drinking a tall can.
- 3:22Yeah. And our PR specialist, not going
- 3:23to lie, he's they, they helped out a lot.
- 3:25Yeah, she really threatened us. She threatened us.
- 3:28Said boys get to work. Otherwise I'm going to do it for
- 3:30you. Yeah, she kind of did.
- 3:32She. Yeah.
- 3:33The big shout out to the two people that we have names of
- 3:37that we interviewed, which was Whitley in this beautifully
- 3:41constructed, crystallize feathered, all white beaded
- 3:47Unicorn costume. Yeah, outfit, costume, whatever
- 3:50it is, she had this a giant Unicorn head above her head,
- 3:55like as a. Headdress.
- 3:56Yeah. Head headpiece.
- 3:57There you go. When I say that, I said it in
- 4:00the video, so if you haven't seen it, go check it out.
- 4:02We found a Cryptid at the Renaissance Fair, a full on
- 4:06Unicorn and like intricate, beautifully made.
- 4:11Very like keen on details. Her shoes were giant hooves.
- 4:15Yeah, it was. It was amazing.
- 4:16She was. Stomping around, clip clopping.
- 4:18Clip clopping. Taller than literally anyone
- 4:21there because they had a huge platform and her head went up
- 4:24maybe like 2 feet above her freaking scalp.
- 4:28And then our second friend, Eric.
- 4:31Eric dressed up as a dwarf from World of Warcraft.
- 4:35Wow. If I was hot, I know he must
- 4:37have been sweltering because he was also in a wig and a beard
- 4:40and a nose. And a fake prosthetic like as a
- 4:43nose. We saw him walking around and
- 4:47like on the way back when we were eating, we saw him walking
- 4:50towards his car and I I can't imagine how he did.
- 4:53He didn't say it was too heavy because he he had made it
- 4:55himself, but how much like of that plastic was just like
- 4:59boiling in on the inside. We didn't ask what it was made
- 5:03of. I'm hoping it was something
- 5:04light because he was layered up. He had his clothes on and over
- 5:08it. He had like, this big belt.
- 5:09He had a shield. He had a big hammer Cape.
- 5:12And the. The wig was long.
- 5:13Yeah. Oh, Eric, I hope you were
- 5:16staying hydrated. I know for sure I wasn't.
- 5:18And I was not in anywhere near the levels of layers that you
- 5:22were. It was outstanding.
- 5:24Both of those were favorite of the of the of the the evening.
- 5:28And honestly, I'm just super grateful that we got to
- 5:32interview them that they were very, you know, willing to and
- 5:35amazing cool people. They seem like awesome people.
- 5:37That was like the the through line of Renfair.
- 5:40It was such a great time because people are so willing to 1
- 5:44suspend their disbelief and two, just be whimsical with one
- 5:47another. Yeah, people are there trying to
- 5:49sell their wares. Other people are there just to
- 5:51just experience that level of socialization of, yeah, it's
- 5:57kind of improvy, but you could also just be nice to the people
- 6:01around you. There is like paid actors that
- 6:04are put there through the Ren Fair.
- 6:06That will come at you with like, a bit as a lady who pulled us
- 6:10into a cult. That video will be coming out
- 6:11soon. Hell.
- 6:13Beezus 20 shillings is all you need under your pillow and you
- 6:16will be part of the Beezus cult. I I wasn't too convinced at
- 6:19first, but I was persuaded at the end.
- 6:22I I joined the. Cold where at the bottom level
- 6:25we will work our way up. You, you or both of you that
- 6:29joined early are now above me because I joined late, so I'm at
- 6:32the bottom. No, we're already, we're going
- 6:33to be Beezus's favorite. I can just tell.
- 6:37And I and I. And this is not a pyramid
- 6:38scheme. Absolutely not.
- 6:39It's just in the shape of a triangle.
- 6:41That's just yeah, it's just a shape.
- 6:42That's what she explained. Yeah, it's, it's not.
- 6:44It doesn't stand for anything. So overall, 10 out of 10
- 6:48experience like to start off the the medieval experience and he
- 6:53he, he and Renfair. And we're going back.
- 6:55And we're going back. I'm not.
- 6:56Telling you when so you don't show up and beat us up or
- 7:00something. You can try.
- 7:02Yeah, Jerry will defend us. I have fish and a sword.
- 7:06I'm not scared to use them. Yeah, even though it's plastic,
- 7:09both of them. But they don't know that, bro.
- 7:11I mean, they're living, breathing fish.
- 7:13Made out of. Steel and they hurt.
- 7:15He hit me with one. He's so strong.
- 7:19Yeah anyways, if you haven't watched the Tik Toks, go watch
- 7:22the Tik Toks. Brian spent a lot of time and
- 7:24effort and thank you 10 out of 10.
- 7:26Love the edits. It helps with my 10 second
- 7:31attention span. Good, I'm glad.
- 7:34I feel like I'm finally putting my cinema and television agree
- 7:38to work. I know I don't do that
- 7:40professionally now, but at least having it as a hobby, it makes
- 7:43me has made me feel really fulfilled, especially the
- 7:45podcast. So thank you guys for for
- 7:47listening every week for supporting us.
- 7:50There's a a group of friends that I just every week I see
- 7:53their names pop up. Thank you so much.
- 7:54I'm sorry if we pranked you last week.
- 7:57Oh yeah, about that last week's episode.
- 8:01Oh yeah. Was it?
- 8:03It came out a little early to make sure it was out on April
- 8:05Fool, so we made sure to post it that Wednesday, April 1st.
- 8:10So if we got you, honestly, thank you.
- 8:15You know, we appreciate you for listening to that whole episode.
- 8:19I got a lot of angry text messages about it.
- 8:21The most recent would be Lizette yesterday.
- 8:23No way. Wow.
- 8:26Thank you so much, everyone. Everyone, shout out to you.
- 8:30We're sorry. Of course.
- 8:31No, we're not. No, we're not.
- 8:32No, we're not. We were kidding.
- 8:34It was meant for that. But thank you for listening.
- 8:37You guys got us a stream. So guys, we left the run fair,
- 8:41and in my dehydrated, hallucinating state, as we're
- 8:44walking back to the car, I'm thinking, how did this all
- 8:47start? How did we end up here at the
- 8:49Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale in Southern California?
- 8:52When did this start? How did it become such a thing?
- 8:55And I did my research. The Big Bang.
- 8:58So Jerry, if you would let me, I would love to tell you the
- 9:00history about the Renaissance Fair.
- 9:02Amazing. Let's do it.
- 9:05You Renaissance Fair and rock music have more in common than
- 9:09you think. Fuck yeah.
- 9:10Just like the alternative anti establishment cultural
- 9:13phenomenon, the Renfair also has roots dating back to the
- 9:16counterculture of the 1960s. Fuck yeah.
- 9:20In the same era you could attend Woodstock and your local
- 9:23Renaissance fair and experience that same rush of anti
- 9:26establishment culture. Oh yeah.
- 9:28The original Renaissance Fair experience dates back to 1960s
- 9:32Los Angeles, thanks to high school teacher Phyllis Patterson
- 9:36and her husband, art director Ron Patterson.
- 9:38Together they offered theater classes for neighborhood
- 9:41children out of the backyard of their Laurel Canyon home.
- 9:44The Pattersons pulled inspiration from Comedia del
- 9:47Arte, an improvised comedy performed by Italian troops
- 9:50through the 16th and 18th centuries.
- 9:53They also reference illustration from children's book to design a
- 9:56medieval pageant wagon, which would become the basis for a
- 10:00much larger creative endeavor. On May 11th, 1963, the couple
- 10:04hosted the first ever iteration of what would become a long
- 10:07standing cultural phenomenon named the Renaissance Pleasure
- 10:11Fair and Maymarket. The two day event was created as
- 10:14a fundraiser for KPFK slash Pacifica Radio.
- 10:19The radio station was founded in the late 1940s by pacifist Lewis
- 10:23Hill. His goal was to create media
- 10:26independent of advertisers or government funding.
- 10:29It became known for progressive anti establishment political
- 10:32coverage and grass root news. The station operated without
- 10:35traditional commercials, relying solely on listener donations.
- 10:39The Renaissance Pleasure Fair was built at a North Hollywood
- 10:42summer camp on a budget of $150.00.
- 10:47Oh, the those were the days. The owner of the property was
- 10:51Oliver Hackett, a social organizer who had been accused
- 10:54of being a communist member. The Pattersons built scrap
- 10:58lumber sets and hosted 60 booths featuring period costumes and
- 11:01performances. They gathered an array of local
- 11:04creatives to help build the festival.
- 11:06Many of them were blacklisted artists who had been turned away
- 11:09from Hollywood due to their left wing activism.
- 11:13They had been labeled communist during the rent scare and the
- 11:17Pattersons wanted to give them an opportunity to work.
- 11:21Back then, being liberal opportunity was illegal.
- 11:23Yeah, you had a big red X on your back if you were any left
- 11:28heavily left-leaning liberal. But hey, shout out to them for,
- 11:31you know, giving them a space to work, so that's cool.
- 11:34Phyllis even went on air and asked anyone willing to come by
- 11:37and bring whatever they had. That's so cool.
- 11:39They let them know our budget's $150.00 or raising money for
- 11:42this radio station if you're creative and you got tools.
- 11:45Kylie. Come over, we'll we'll give you
- 11:48like a beer or something. That's cool.
- 11:50That's what the 150 was for. It was just for alcohol.
- 11:52That's amazing. I'm there.
- 11:55What do you think we could build if we got all of our friends
- 11:58together with their skills? Everything.
- 12:00Really everything. Our friends are so talented.
- 12:04Give me something specific. And strong and smart.
- 12:07OK, Jerry, just talking about himself.
- 12:11I'm not looking at a mirror right now.
- 12:14Let's see if we got all the friends together and like like
- 12:19just in in general, what can we build or what can we?
- 12:22Accomplish either or if you put out a call into the universe of
- 12:26just like the people you got on socials.
- 12:29I was thinking we could put together like a communal
- 12:33library. Oh.
- 12:34OK, that's, oh, that's a really good one because.
- 12:36We have so many people into books.
- 12:38We probably have a huge collection of books between all
- 12:40of us. We have many people with a
- 12:44library, I mean one person with a librarian experience and a
- 12:47whole lot of people who are into books.
- 12:49That's true. Specifically that I mean, yeah,
- 12:53I can confirm that. I mean, I would, I would even, I
- 12:59think we could like put on it like a little small music
- 13:01festival. Oh my God, Yeah, you're right.
- 13:03I think we do that. I think organization, we have
- 13:05that. I think at least on my behalf, I
- 13:09think I know a couple like home DJs and musicians that I can put
- 13:14together a set list of some kind.
- 13:16Oh. My God, we could definitely put
- 13:17on a festival. Food some cook couple of great
- 13:21cooks in the in the in the in the friend group, but also just
- 13:24yeah, socials like yeah, for sure.
- 13:27You see guys, this is where ideas start.
- 13:29Who knows, 20-30 years from now there could be the the BJ Fest.
- 13:33BJ Fest is great. Where all your local DJs and
- 13:38chefs get together for one weekend in June.
- 13:42Have a pride, OK? More than 3000 people attended
- 13:50the one weekend event, raising over $6000.
- 13:53Look at that turn around 1:50 to the six grand.
- 13:56And and what was like the the conversion or like not the
- 13:59conversion? Don't ask me to do math.
- 14:00They didn't do that before and I'm sorry.
- 14:02That's like. Like current time?
- 14:05How much money is that 1000? Oh, that's a good question.
- 14:07Look it up while I keep reading to you.
- 14:11This wasn't 1963. That's crazy.
- 14:17Attendees experienced performances, shopped,
- 14:19handcrafted items and enjoyed the soon to be iconic Turkey
- 14:23like actors improvised with visitors in the streets.
- 14:26Love the Turkey like. 3 stages hosted dancing, magic shows and
- 14:30miming. Fuck yeah.
- 14:31There was even a makeshift court with actors portraying Queen
- 14:35Elizabeth the verse. And her Royal Court, which still
- 14:38happened. And I I'm pretty sure one of the
- 14:40judges was a dog. A judge was a dog.
- 14:43Yeah, like one of the actors was a dog.
- 14:45Good, good. The event was extremely
- 14:50successful. While the fair was only intended
- 14:53to be a one time event, overwhelming support led to a
- 14:55repeat event at a larger venue the next year.
- 14:59The story goes that she was, Oh my God, what's her name?
- 15:04Miss Patterson? Missus Patterson was on either a
- 15:07radio or she was attending one of the events and someone asked
- 15:10her like oh what are you going to do next year?
- 15:13And she said next year is 2 weeks, we're doing 2 weekends.
- 15:19So it went from not even being a possibility to her immediately
- 15:22deciding we're doing 2 weekends next year.
- 15:24That's iconic, but that's behavior.
- 15:27Talk about profit. In 1965, the Pleasure Fair moved
- 15:32to the Paramount Ranch. It's continued success allowed
- 15:35it to expand into a multi week event as the years progressed.
- 15:38Then in 1967, the fair moved to Ventura County, and things got
- 15:43tense. Ventura, do you have your answer
- 15:46to Hwy. Monday?
- 15:48Do you? Have your answer.
- 15:48I do have my answer. So 6000 in 1963 is equivalent to
- 15:53about 64,000 as of 2026. That's significant.
- 15:58What's $150.00 like? What was that investment?
- 16:01Oh, how much money do we need to start a rent fair?
- 16:06Oh, if we put in 150, Yeah, in 1960. $3 that's approximately 16
- 16:12grand. Oh, sorry, 1600.
- 16:15That makes a lot more sense. 1600 sorry.
- 16:17With $1600 we could put on a music festival if all our
- 16:20friends do it for free. If all of our friends gave us a
- 16:22dollar, we. Would not have $1600 if.
- 16:27All of our friends gave us at least $500.
- 16:32As I mentioned, once things moved to Ventura County, things
- 16:35got tense. The ferret was soon dubbed of
- 16:39the hippie invasion and attendees were painted as drug
- 16:43users and the hippies sex hammers hippies.
- 16:47A pivotal moment in the Renfair's history was about to
- 16:50unfold. As a result from intense
- 16:53pushback from the locals of Entura County, a standoff
- 16:56occurred between police in riot gear and fair organizers and
- 17:01Faye. And the Faye and the Faye.
- 17:04The weekend before opening, the leader of the police group
- 17:07marched up to the organizer, Preston Hibbard, who was dressed
- 17:11as Robin Hood at the time. Amazing.
- 17:13They got within 10 feet of each other before the policeman or
- 17:18recognized Hubbard as an old war buddy.
- 17:22What? The confrontation ended in a
- 17:24hug. So they fought together.
- 17:27In the war. In the war.
- 17:28Literally in the war, I think Hibbard was.
- 17:31Hibbard was a veteran and he was tasked to to help build the
- 17:35Renfair because they think he had been working in either
- 17:39carnivals or setting up circuses, something like that.
- 17:42And he for the Navy and he had vowed to never do anything for
- 17:45the Navy again. And here he was about to think
- 17:49like fight for his life. And it's an old homie from war.
- 17:53That bond is transcendent of anything.
- 17:57Is that not the most Renfair way to end a police standoff?
- 18:00Yeah, that's amazing. It it could have been a a Pepsi.
- 18:03I I have the exact same thought. A hug is better.
- 18:06It's more personal. And doesn't say less sweet, but
- 18:10no, no, no, that's the Pepsi's more sweet.
- 18:14Especially if it's sugar free. It was sugar free.
- 18:16Even better. The local government ultimately
- 18:20restricted the fair from hosting their second weekend that year.
- 18:23Well, the push back forced the Red Fair to return to the
- 18:25smaller Paramount Ranch venue in 1968.
- 18:28During this time, disputes between the owners and Pacifica
- 18:31Radio arose, leading the Renaissance Fair to cut ties
- 18:34with the station. No, it would, however, be graced
- 18:37by notable visitors in future years, including members of The
- 18:41Birds, The Doors, Harrison Ford and Nancy Sinatra, and would
- 18:45once again pick up momentum. I think the Birds have a song
- 18:48called the Renaissance. That's amazing.
- 18:49I have not listened to it, but I I am familiar with the birds, of
- 18:52course familiar with the doors. It might be the Doors.
- 18:54One of the one of them has a a song called the Renaissance.
- 18:57That's so cool. Let's check right now.
- 18:59Luckily, the hate train was ultimately short lived.
- 19:02By the 1970s, copycat events began springing up across the
- 19:05country. The current largest fair in the
- 19:08nation would be born in Texas 1970.
- 19:11You have to add that to the list.
- 19:12As much as I don't want to go to Texas, they do have the largest
- 19:15red fair currently active. No way the US is that where the
- 19:18pickle priest goes? Probably by the 1990s, many
- 19:23fairs, the pleasure fair included, were acquired by
- 19:25corporate entities, ending the grassroots era and becoming more
- 19:29so commercial interest. Think of like Coachella.
- 19:32We did say this was our years, our Coachella for the year.
- 19:35Yes, it was. Do you think that changes the
- 19:37vibe or does it still have the same spirit?
- 19:40Both, I think if we're talking about like commercial and cash
- 19:46grabbing events, I think it can be one of them.
- 19:49I think shout out to the small vendors.
- 19:51I think some of them are really like they're bringing their own
- 19:54stuff. And I'm not trying to, you know,
- 19:56minimize their minimize, yeah, their work and experience.
- 19:59And then if there are vendors that are just bringing like mass
- 20:01produced things like well. That is, that should be heavily
- 20:05frowned upon. So.
- 20:06Yeah, that I would not agree with that.
- 20:07But does it happen? I'm absolutely 1000% sure that
- 20:11does. But once again, because it can
- 20:13be a little bit on the more expensive side, from drinks to
- 20:18things that you buy to things to to get.
- 20:20In but you see that's where I think the commodification of it,
- 20:22that's where it starts feeling like a money grabs.
- 20:25Yeah, that's when it is when the food and the drink is like you
- 20:29only have so many options and we're going to charge you like
- 20:31$16.00 for this one can. Yeah, because it's the only
- 20:33options we have. Yeah.
- 20:34Like, yeah, there there's no like small vendors selling their
- 20:37own alcohol or like their own meat.
- 20:38Like no, that's not allowed, so. Understandable, you should have
- 20:42a license to be serving alcohol, but also you only have one
- 20:46vendor there that's serving alcohol.
- 20:47In the same at different posts. Yep so.
- 20:51But it's fun as hell. It is.
- 20:52I had a great time. I was drunk as hell, having a
- 20:54great time. Yeah.
- 20:56The Pleasure Fair of Southern California now resides in
- 20:58Irwindale. Yeah, it's a month long weekend
- 21:01event held in April and May, averaging around 20,000
- 21:03attendance each weekend. We were part of that, Yeah, we
- 21:06were. Many traditions have withstood
- 21:09the test of time. Event goers Don elaborate
- 21:11costumes referencing medieval fashion, mythical creatures or
- 21:15elaborate cosplay. Vendors sell handmade goods like
- 21:18jewelry, clothing, leather work and art.
- 21:21Stages are scattered around the grounds with comedy acts and
- 21:23live music. There's an expansive food court
- 21:25offering an array of meals, including the iconic Turkey leg,
- 21:29which is not true to the time period.
- 21:31By the way, not have big Turkey legs in the Renaissance.
- 21:34There was no turkeys in the Renaissance.
- 21:36No, I think turkeys are like indigenous to Mexico.
- 21:39Turkey, Southern, yeah, I can see for sure.
- 21:41Like Southern? I think Andrew was telling me
- 21:42that. Southern California, maybe?
- 21:45That man is smart. Would you have guessed the
- 21:48Renaissance Fair had deep ties to counterculture and Red Scare
- 21:51era America? What started as a backyard
- 21:54theater experiment turned into a travelling hippy village and
- 21:57eventually became a nationwide tradition.
- 22:00And even now, with corporate ownership and massive crowds,
- 22:02you can still see the original idea underneath the ball art
- 22:05intersecting with rebellion with a heavy hand of whimsy.
- 22:10With a beer in one hand and a Turkey leg in the other, I do
- 22:13feel a very strong urge to stick it to the man.
- 22:15You. If you would like any more
- 22:17information, I pulled this from two really good articles on the
- 22:20history of the Renfair, one of which being on history.com, the
- 22:24second being on the Smithsonian Magazine.
- 22:26That one I believe, features interviews like the descendants
- 22:29of the original operators of the Renfair, that's who had the
- 22:34story of the the hug in the Missouri County to Vorvitz
- 22:39that's. Crazy.
- 22:41That's so cool. Well, I mean, once again, thank
- 22:43you Brian. That was a very informative
- 22:45piece. I think I am much more smarter
- 22:47now than I was 3 minutes ago. Good.
- 22:51I'm glad. Wow.
- 22:54That's also I will say that there's a Turkey leg that I had
- 22:57last year. I did not have one this past
- 22:59weekend. Very good, solid.
- 23:02There's something like eating a big ass Turkey leg with your
- 23:04hands and stuff. I think I got it like vampire
- 23:07style which was garlic. OK.
- 23:09With garlic sauce. Kill a vampire style.
- 23:12I forget, I forget. It's like I'll remember the name
- 23:15next time, but that's so expensive.
- 23:18It's like I wouldn't do it again.
- 23:19And I didn't. I didn't.
- 23:20I didn't. Want to?
- 23:21We thought ahead. OK, yeah.
- 23:22So we thought. Please share the story.
- 23:24Friends. So we're planning for a weekend,
- 23:26right? I'm with with my friend Jerry,
- 23:30who I was off Monday because it was Farmers Appreciation Day,
- 23:34right? And we're like, Oh my God, we're
- 23:37going to get so much done. We're going to plan for the week
- 23:40or we're going to plan for the weekend.
- 23:42We need to buy stuff to make sandwiches so that way we don't
- 23:45have to spend money at the food court.
- 23:46What kind of sandwiches we're going to make Tortas de Hammond
- 23:50ham tortas. We go to the grocery store.
- 23:53I'm like, what do we need? He's like, I already got the
- 23:55ham. We just need the bread.
- 23:57We need avocado, lettuce, everything.
- 24:01Just that goes in a torta. And I'm like say less.
- 24:03We go to the onion, pack everything up, We're going to
- 24:06have some delicious sandwiches, spend our morning most of the
- 24:11day, most of the day, most of our day without having eaten
- 24:14anything, which is why we got real drunk or real quick with
- 24:16one tall can. So it was worth those $16.00, I
- 24:19will say in a moment. Yes, it was.
- 24:22We're dying. We're walking back solo.
- 24:25Tired low energy low blood sugar low low Blood Sugar high
- 24:31intoxicated heavily heavily into.
- 24:33Looking for some some protein and some carbs to really like,
- 24:39soak up to revitalize us. Yeah.
- 24:41And water. Especially water.
- 24:42Yes. Turn on the AC.
- 24:45We're chilling in the car. Wig is off.
- 24:47We're catching our breath. I'm next to the cooler in the
- 24:51backseat. Jerry says, hey, friend, open it
- 24:54up. Open it up.
- 24:54Pass me the bread. Pass some bread.
- 24:56It's like, OK, pass me the bag that has all the ingredients in
- 24:59it. Passing the bag, they start
- 25:02making the sandwiches. Hey, friend, pass me the ham.
- 25:06There's no ham. What do you mean there's no ham?
- 25:11Jerry's life just stopped. The whole world froze.
- 25:16I forgot the ham. I forgot the ham El ham on.
- 25:21For our ham tortas. For our ham tortas guys, when I
- 25:25tell you I I feel so proud because I'm like wow, like I
- 25:28prep, I prepped and prepared the cooler that morning of.
- 25:32I had everything ready in the fridge and the bags, so
- 25:34everything's together and I don't have to go searching for
- 25:37things and putting them individually.
- 25:40Don't they even asked me like, hey, like, like, oh, is
- 25:42everything in them? Like, Yep, I got the spin
- 25:44drifts. I got the the the the
- 25:46silverware. I got the sauces.
- 25:49Even got a a little can of the the jalapenos and vinegar.
- 25:53Yeah, a little tin. Yeah, tin can of of the the
- 25:57pickled jalapenos and carrots. I was prepared.
- 26:01You're gonna accept the main protein when I tell you, like
- 26:07Brian said, my world stopped when I tell you that I just felt
- 26:09so like just disappointed in me because it doesn't matter how
- 26:11prepared that cooler was, like, it doesn't matter how stocked it
- 26:14was. I missed the one thing that was
- 26:17going to make the torta a ham torta torta de, come on.
- 26:21So lesson learned. Oh, we even got like Panella
- 26:25cheese. It was just going to be the most
- 26:27like. It was going to hit.
- 26:27Delicious torta after an morning of walking and renaissancing.
- 26:34So we ended up eating, prancing and frolicking.
- 26:37We ended up eating just tortas veggies.
- 26:41We had vegetable and cheese tortas.
- 26:43So and fruit technically. Yeah, I mean, I, I won't say.
- 26:47It wasn't bad. It was good.
- 26:49Yes, it was good. It had everything, had cheese,
- 26:51it had veggies, avocados, mayos, salsa, everything.
- 26:55It was really good. But it just, it just doesn't hit
- 26:58the same. But so this time around, the
- 27:00tortas will be prepared the day before, put in the cooler the
- 27:04day before, wrapped individually, wrapped
- 27:06individually the day before, so that when we go eat Day 2, we
- 27:10are just eating, we're not preparing anything.
- 27:13So. I support checklists.
- 27:16I had a check. Oh oh had a checklist.
- 27:19No, I had everything. Ham was another checklist.
- 27:22Except the ham 'cause I. There was a moment of silence.
- 27:26Where like I think our collective thoughts are.
- 27:29We go back in to buy food, like what happens here, But no, no,
- 27:34it was just a couple minutes. Was just shame.
- 27:37But then you got to laugh about it.
- 27:38I had to laugh about it after. You did say like, give me a
- 27:41second. Yeah.
- 27:42I had to take a second because I was just frustrated.
- 27:43I'm also hungry and hot. Like, yeah, I can only imagine
- 27:47how what they're feeling so. I'm proud of you though, because
- 27:50you did say I just need a second to regulate.
- 27:52That is very good communication. I appreciate that.
- 27:54Thank you. So that's the story guys.
- 27:59So now we're. We're going to be better
- 28:00prepared for next week. Yes, we are.
- 28:02He forgot the ham. I forgot to bring water.
- 28:05It's 95° and I'm layered up head to toe.
- 28:09I didn't think, oh, I might need water.
- 28:12Yeah, yeah, they do sell water. It's like 6 bucks.
- 28:14But imagine going back to the car to an ice cold hydro flask.
- 28:19Huge one filled with water. You also left her water bottle.
- 28:22And guys, I by the end of it blood sugar down low I had no
- 28:28energy. I had to use the bathroom real
- 28:30bad and I wasn't going to use a porta potty and I had plans
- 28:34after what a day? Yeah, but what?
- 28:37We didn't forget Fitz didn't forget the Fitz.
- 28:40Nope. We came.
- 28:41We lost him 10 out of 10. We did great.
- 28:44We didn't forget our self esteem because we were we were eating.
- 28:48We were eating all, absolutely all day.
- 28:49And we thought ahead and brought cash because the ATM charges you
- 28:52so much money prepared and most anything that you buy at the
- 28:55renferer is cash only. So we got to give ourself props
- 28:58even though with a little mishaps and forgetfulness, but.
- 29:02Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody has those days,
- 29:06everybody knows what I'm talking about.
- 29:07You don't look away, we're looking at you.
- 29:10But guess what? You've done so many good things,
- 29:12so be proud of yourself. What?
- 29:14Jerry got the reference. Wait, what?
- 29:17Keep going. I'm sorry.
- 29:19It's OK. Don't apologize.
- 29:21I need a second. Brand Fair.
- 29:25Brand, I have two words for you. OK, Medieval sports.
- 29:29Oh. OK, we're talking sports.
- 29:32I I just, I had to learn about just what were the common sports
- 29:36that you would see during medieval times during fair and
- 29:39festivals? Renaissance Times.
- 29:41Renaissance times. So specifically I, I did focus
- 29:45on like the medieval aspect of it because a lot of this shit is
- 29:48medieval. This shit is brutal. 16th
- 29:50century baby. Crazy just amount of blood that
- 29:53you would see. That's normal.
- 29:55But the most common one and the most I guess influential 1 was
- 29:59jousting. Jousting is still being done at
- 30:01the Ren fair. If you go to medieval times, you
- 30:04can pay to see a joust, and it was honestly really, really
- 30:08really cool to read about. It was peak medieval
- 30:11entertainment. There was Knights on horseback
- 30:14charging each other with lances, aiming to knock each other off
- 30:17their horse. Jousting was actually highly
- 30:20structured. These Knights wore full armor,
- 30:22sometimes weighing over 50 lbs and more.
- 30:25Damn. They use, yeah, they use
- 30:28specifically designed lances that could shatter on impact,
- 30:31which is why it was so common to see the explosion of wood.
- 30:35And points would be awarded for accuracy, not just destruction.
- 30:39So yes, there was rules, but also you're getting hit by a man
- 30:43barging at you on a horse. Yeah, OK.
- 30:46What question? What's up?
- 30:47Unless you're going to talk about it, the point was never to
- 30:49kill each other. So I know there was follow up
- 30:52where if at a certain point you knock the opponent off the
- 30:55horse, you can then continue to charge at that person on your
- 31:00horse or on foot and then a a battle would then commence on
- 31:04foot. These events were huge.
- 31:06Full festivals, food vendors, music, nobles watching from
- 31:10stands, people placing bets. The Knights were medieval
- 31:14celebrities, so if you won, that meant fame, that meant money,
- 31:19and sometimes admiration from nobles or romantic attention.
- 31:22Oh, oh, you got him off that horse so high.
- 31:25It's like the NFL, Coachella and The Bachelor had a very violent
- 31:29bait. I love that.
- 31:31Even kings participated, which I think historically it was
- 31:35against the law to hurt the king and in general like.
- 31:38The king would win. Yeah, so the king would win and.
- 31:41They put a little for the wire up there.
- 31:43Like barely learn how to ride a horse.
- 31:46The second game that you would see is archery.
- 31:48And this was really funny because to me it, I mean,
- 31:51reading like from, you know, middle school.
- 31:55I'm already forgetting his name now.
- 31:57Peter Pan, No. No, no, Robin, Ulysses travels
- 32:01Odysseus and all that stuff. Like there was like that famous
- 32:04and I don't know if it's Odysseus, but.
- 32:05I was going to say Katniss. Katniss Everdeen yes, there was
- 32:08like that archery scene where this guy comes out of nowhere
- 32:11some it's like a competition shoots the arrow and it blitz
- 32:15the arrow that's already on there.
- 32:17So it's and then it turns out to be him like Oh my God.
- 32:20But it's wild because archery wasn't optional in medieval
- 32:25England, men were legally required to practice archery
- 32:27regularly. What?
- 32:29Imagine getting fined because you skipped bow practice.
- 32:32Sundays weren't for rest, they were for going outside and
- 32:35shooting something. Because we might need you for
- 32:37war. Oh fuck, so the Longbow was
- 32:40incredibly powerful. Those were Trump ideas.
- 32:43Oh my stop. Longbows could Pierce armor.
- 32:47It required serious strength and training, and skilled Archers
- 32:51were basically the snipers of their time.
- 32:53There was competitions too, but again the prize was essentially
- 32:56Congrats, you're very useful in battle.
- 32:59So they would call a rally and become arch.
- 33:02Picking you for the team. We're picking you.
- 33:04We're picking you. You suck.
- 33:06Yep, we're picking you. It's like you won.
- 33:08You won this competition great. You're first in line to go
- 33:10battle on the front lines. Oh my God, I would rig it.
- 33:14I'd be like, Oh my God, I don't know how to do it.
- 33:15I suck. Oh.
- 33:17Just find me. Just go ahead.
- 33:19Oh my God, find me. Please.
- 33:20Yeah. Here's my money, guys.
- 33:22Hey, I see you again. Here's my coin for the week.
- 33:25He won't catch me doing archery. There was a sport very similar
- 33:30to football. It was like modern soccer as
- 33:33well. So there was 100 hundreds of
- 33:35people. There was no field boundaries,
- 33:38which made it very problematic. There was no set teams.
- 33:41There was a a ball and vibes so a goal could be miles away.
- 33:47The game would go through streets, it would cross rivers,
- 33:50it would go against, go through farms, even sometimes people's
- 33:54homes. The objective was to just get
- 33:56the ball to the goal. The games can last for hours and
- 34:01sometimes entire towns were involved.
- 34:03It got so bad that Kings at the time tried to ban it multiple
- 34:06times because of the chaos and property damage because people
- 34:10were getting injured and it distracted people from archery
- 34:13practice. No.
- 34:16No, so just eventually got banned because it was that, you
- 34:22know? We got to go to archery.
- 34:23Exactly. Just start impacting our our our
- 34:27potential soldiers. Second, hit the bullseye.
- 34:32Hit the bullseye. You're great.
- 34:34So aversions of this still exist to this day.
- 34:37It's pretty incredible and pretty terrifying.
- 34:40Is. This rugby, this has become
- 34:41rugby or something. Who knows?
- 34:43And it reminds me of the time when when I was in Italy and we
- 34:46saw like this these rugby players that were on their way
- 34:49to this field and and they were all representing like their
- 34:54specific region. And I mean, it wasn't a closed
- 34:58confined arena, but I mean, very similar.
- 35:02It looked very bloody. It looked like a fight was about
- 35:04to happen. So could have been that.
- 35:06I could be wrong. Who knows?
- 35:07That's funny. So that was not a king sanction
- 35:09sport that. No, the normal people did.
- 35:11That's what it does. So the.
- 35:12Yeah. Los Los Los peasants.
- 35:16Los plebes. Los plebes, the plebians.
- 35:18The plebians. Is that where that ends from?
- 35:20Maybe. Sure, maybe.
- 35:21Let's go for that. Let's just.
- 35:22Yeah, let's keep it. Plebes, my plebes.
- 35:25So there was also quarter staff fighting, sparring with long
- 35:29wooden Staffs. Sounds like my kind of party.
- 35:33What does it take? Two people?
- 35:34Oh big sticks. Oh minimal rules, semi up and
- 35:39ego. A big, big ego.
- 35:42This is actually used for combat training.
- 35:44It was also for fun sometimes, but people were out here like,
- 35:48you know what sounds relaxing? Controlled violence, it's a
- 35:51required skill because there was footwork, footwork that was
- 35:54involved. There was timing and precision.
- 35:56So it wasn't just random swinging.
- 35:59If someone said run it back, you couldn't just log off, you had
- 36:01to, you had to run it back. We.
- 36:03Have everyone to your places. We're going to start swinging.
- 36:07Another popular sport at the time was horse racing.
- 36:09This was a little bit more political.
- 36:11Not everything was about chaos. Some sports were about status.
- 36:14Horse racing was huge among nobles.
- 36:17It showed wealth, strength, breeding, and prestige.
- 36:21Owning a fast horse was the equivalent of owning a luxury
- 36:25car nowadays. And except instead of revving
- 36:28the engine, you just galloped dramatically.
- 36:34My favorite of the night, Falcon Reed.
- 36:37Oh yeah, that was fun. I would still love to get my
- 36:41falconry license. That is something that's still
- 36:43on my bucket list that I will eventually become a Falconer.
- 36:48So nobles trained birds of prey, Falcons and Hawks to hunt.
- 36:53This might be one of the most elite hobbies in my opinion.
- 36:56So you know, you pull up somewhere and you're like, hold
- 36:59on, my bird can handle this. It wasn't a sport.
- 37:02It was also a status symbol. There was different birds that
- 37:04reflected social rank and medieval classism extended to
- 37:08your pet choices. These were some of course.
- 37:11I'm going to give you a list of birds and Hawks that were used
- 37:15for falconry. There was a bigger Falcon, which
- 37:18was the largest and most prized Falcon often reserved for kings.
- 37:22A peregrine Falcon, which was highly favored for hunting
- 37:25waterfowl, known for being the fastest long winged bird and the
- 37:30most common choice for noblemen and ladies.
- 37:34There was a Saker Falcon used extensively, especially by
- 37:38Knights, for its prowess in hunting ground prey.
- 37:41Question. Do you know what kind of Falcon
- 37:42we saw at medieval times? That was a peregrine Falcon.
- 37:45Or no? Sorry.
- 37:46A Prairie Falcon. Oh, yeah.
- 37:47OK. Prairie.
- 37:50A Goss hawk. Powerful short wing hawk used
- 37:53for hunting hare and woodland prey.
- 37:55A Sparrow hawk. A small agile hawk favored by
- 37:59ladies and clergy for catching small birds.
- 38:02A Merlin, a small Falcon often flown by ladies to catch small
- 38:06birds, and sparrowhawks, used for by priests.
- 38:11Snaves and servants used to use kestrels, which is one of the
- 38:13smallest birds of prey, which we saw at the at the zoo that was
- 38:17zoo. Damn friend, we got so many
- 38:19adventures. Pretty great.
- 38:21Pretty awesome to be honest. So that's honestly one of the
- 38:25traditions that still continues to this day, I think.
- 38:27Very popular in medieval Renaissance times in England and
- 38:30stuff, but. Popular in Orange County in
- 38:32medieval times. Still continues to be a very fun
- 38:36and engaging way of living because people make money out of
- 38:39it now. OK, I have another question.
- 38:40What's up, Mr. Bird Boy? Do you think they can't Falcon
- 38:44at the Santa Fe Jam because there's like, already a lot of,
- 38:48like, wildlife there? Like, where are you allowed to
- 38:50Falcon? Do you know?
- 38:51That's a good idea. I mean, I think with your
- 38:52license in general, you should be able to go anywhere because
- 38:57for falconry, I mean, in terms of like using it for a job,
- 39:01using the, the Falcons or Hawks or jobs, it's for pest control.
- 39:06So it's very common for urban, cosmopolitan urban cities for
- 39:12there to be a lot of pigeons, a lot of rats.
- 39:14So you can come in with your hawk and then scared away
- 39:18letting let, well, scare them away.
- 39:20But yeah, sometimes they do snag a bird or or animal or two.
- 39:25But that then shows the the birds that there are predators
- 39:28around. So they won't be showing up to
- 39:30like the front of the seating area or you know, where it might
- 39:33be. Food that They're so smart.
- 39:35Yeah. Like I'm just going to scare you
- 39:36a little bit. In places where agriculture is,
- 39:39there's a lot of rodents and, and yeah, just things that like
- 39:42Burrow and eat your crops. It's known to like some people
- 39:47use ferrets to send in into like little rabbit holes or or mole
- 39:51holes and then it drives out all the the the game and then they
- 39:55send the bird out to to collect. Two man, they're running a 2.
- 39:58Man job, yeah, it's a 2V something 2 V 5 maybe.
- 40:02Like God, it's a double battles in Pokémon, yeah.
- 40:04But it it's still a very common practice.
- 40:06It's really fun. Like I said, I've always wanted
- 40:07to get my falconry license. It is.
- 40:09It's not hard, but I think where we're at right now, like it's a
- 40:12rural city, so it's not as easy, guys, we have to.
- 40:16Support Jerry and getting his Falcon RE license.
- 40:18I'm down that would be sick. All right, so my last two, one
- 40:23of them is bear baiting and this one I didn't really read up too
- 40:27much on. I just.
- 40:28One more time. Bear baiting.
- 40:30OK. Are you familiar with bear
- 40:32baiting that? Just sounds like me on any given
- 40:34day of the week. Well, I guarantee you it's not.
- 40:37Oh because this shit's dark and just just let me have a warning
- 40:41for y'all listening. So on the topic of animals,
- 40:44there was something called bear baiting if bear was restrained
- 40:47and attacked by dogs while people watched.
- 40:49No, I don't like that one. I didn't do much investigating
- 40:52because after I read that I was like, I don't want to read more
- 40:54of it. That ruined my vibes.
- 40:57I next. Next, so the ultimate event was
- 41:01a tournament. Tournaments was your festival,
- 41:04your Coachella. There was jousting, DJ, there
- 41:07was combat games, beasting, music, and social networking.
- 41:12This was the event where everyone came together, Nights
- 41:14competed for glory, nobles socialized, communities
- 41:18gathered, and it was part part sport, part festival, part
- 41:21political event. So this is where you get to see
- 41:24all of the things that I talked about on top of all the
- 41:26political things that happened at the time.
- 41:28So all to make the king look good I'm assuming.
- 41:30Yeah, So for sure, yeah. Hosted by the king and then they
- 41:34have representation. Every time I think of this, I
- 41:36just think of Game of Thrones, the last, their newest season of
- 41:41Night of the Seven Kingdoms, 'cause there's a part where Egg,
- 41:45the noble boy, 'cause he's in like he's one of the kids of the
- 41:50of the king. He's like.
- 41:51Sir, Sir. Get up Sir, but this is spoiler.
- 41:57No, OK, no, it's part of the trailer.
- 42:00OK, so yeah, that's my spiel, guys.
- 42:03Short and sweet. Just some sports and events that
- 42:06would happen that would be common around that time.
- 42:09So pretty dark, pretty brutal, but that's why we still see
- 42:13jousting nowadays. Go to the Ren Fair, go to
- 42:15Medieval Times. You will see some jousting
- 42:18happening. We saw it happen.
- 42:21And we saw I had. 2 * 2 times this year that we've already
- 42:24seen jousting. That's crazy.
- 42:25That was this year, a lifestyle that we live.
- 42:27What brought us here? D&D.
- 42:30It all comes back to D&D. Because I've heard of the the
- 42:34Renaissance Fair before, but I never thought that'd be
- 42:37something I'd be interested in until like last year.
- 42:41I don't even know how I discovered it in the first
- 42:42place. There's a bunch of nerds.
- 42:45At the end of the day, it's like it's a theater.
- 42:48It's a theater kid dream. And as an old Peter kid, yeah, I
- 42:52I could see how people end up there.
- 42:54Why? I could see why you someone
- 42:55would want to work there A. Wise Wizard said it's this is
- 42:57like escapism, the definition of it.
- 42:59You know, we are leaving the troubles and leaving that shit
- 43:02out to just have fun 'cause it can be just vibe, vibe with
- 43:10other people that are there to vibe as well.
- 43:12Have a good ass time and and just partake.
- 43:14Partake. Live in the moment.
- 43:15Yeah, Be mindful. To match the vibes of this
- 43:19week's episode, I do have a very specific song recommendation.
- 43:23Whoa. OK.
- 43:25In that, my friend, is. Oh my God, I lost it.
- 43:33It is WAP, the Bardcore instrumental by Stanto.
- 43:41I was going to say the WAP I I don't really get Renaissance
- 43:44vibes. But when it's Bardcore, When
- 43:46it's. Bardcore anything is
- 43:48renaissance. Vibe guys you need to get into
- 43:50Bardcore. It exists for literally any
- 43:51songs. Every any song.
- 43:53Any song you have a favorite song, look for it.
- 43:55Bardcore Edition. I'm going to see if there's a
- 43:57gasolina. Bardcore version?
- 43:58I wouldn't doubt it. I'm going to recommend
- 44:02Renaissance Fair by the Birds. I.
- 44:05Told you, and that's BYRDS. I will listen to it as well
- 44:09because it's just that's on theme.
- 44:11OK, we're searching. We're searching.
- 44:15There is, from what I can see on Spotify, no Gasolina version of
- 44:20barcore or no barcore version of gasoline in YouTube.
- 44:24OK, please hold while we continue to investigate this
- 44:28phenomenon. That would make more sense.
- 44:33Jean Paul Temperature Shakira Hips don't lie.
- 44:36Actually, that's my that's my song.
- 44:38I take back what I said about WAP Shakira hips don't lie
- 44:41hardcore version. That's where it's at.
- 44:43You know who lied that day? Me.
- 44:45Because I don't bring the ham. It's.
- 44:48Hips don't lie my. Ham don't lie.
- 44:50My hams don't lie. Well, thank you.
- 44:54I hope to see you all on the Morrow when you listen to this
- 44:57episode. Yeah, hope you guys have a good
- 44:59day today. And the Ren Fair is not paying
- 45:01us to promote them. We just have a really good time.
- 45:03Exactly. And it's going through at least
- 45:05I think the middle of May I know for sure it goes to Mother's
- 45:08Day. So take your mom's to the Ren
- 45:10Fair if. It does go to May, you're right.
- 45:12Yeah, this is our Coachella. Since we're not going to take
- 45:14your mom's to the Ren Fair, take your mother's to the Ren Fair.
- 45:18And if you're not? Let them loose with a couple
- 45:19dollars. And if you're not able to
- 45:21experience it for yourself, yeah, take other friends, take
- 45:24other family. We're just, we're just going to
- 45:26the rent for now. Everyone's invited.
- 45:28I brought it up to. Mike Diaz, not that long ago,
- 45:31because my, my, I told my mom I was going.
- 45:33She's like, behold, I think your Diaz went to that when they were
- 45:36young. I was like, excuse me, what do
- 45:39you mean? What do you mean by that?
- 45:41What do you mean? Like Diaz went to the rent fair?
- 45:44So then I asked them, I think during Thanksgiving last year.
- 45:48You see how long I've been holding on to this story.
- 45:49Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, hey, did you guys go to
- 45:52the Renaissance Fair and they're like, meho, what is that?
- 45:54And I'm like, oh, it's place in Irwindale, California.
- 46:00They're like Irwindale. I'm like, oh, it's at the Santa
- 46:02Fe Dam. Are people in costume?
- 46:05And I'm like, yes, all the time. Me costumes.
- 46:07Oh my God. Yeah.
- 46:08We went as a high school field trip as a.
- 46:11Field trip to the Ren Fair. Yeah, and I had to be in like
- 46:14the 80s. It's like I don't in my
- 46:17research, I did not see the exact year that it moved to
- 46:21Irwindale. Yeah, it might not have been in
- 46:24Irwindale. OK.
- 46:26It might have been like one of the ones where it was like
- 46:27somewhere in LA still like I doubt it was of a Dirk.
- 46:31No, no, that was in the 60s. They might have gone before it
- 46:35was even in Irwindale. You're at the end of being the
- 46:38veteran, Oh my God, in the Robin Hood costume.
- 46:41Yeah, definitely. I I could just see my little
- 46:43Christian fear or Jesus fearing. Yeah, I'm just.
- 46:48In a in a in a Robin Hood costume, no leading the charge
- 46:52against the sheriff's or I. Told them they'd be interested
- 46:54in going again and they they weren't opposed.
- 46:56That's so cool. Like what like can an event
- 46:59would that take to just get our families involved to go to the
- 47:02Ren Fair and then just have them experience it?
- 47:05I feel like my dad would have enjoyed it.
- 47:07That's so cool. He would have been annoyed at
- 47:10the the choice of beer. OK, OK.
- 47:13But I feel like if he was, if he was on a good one, he would have
- 47:16had a good time. All right.
- 47:18Vibes, music, acrobatic shows, acrobats.
- 47:22Yeah. Like flame.
- 47:24What is it? Juggling.
- 47:25Juggling. That one was stressful, guys.
- 47:27It was that guy dropped the his fire thing and part of the stage
- 47:31did catch on fire. I don't remember, but he was
- 47:33with Silly. Yeah, he was so good, balancing
- 47:37on a plank and a little cylinder thing.
- 47:40Yeah, so cool. Using a random member of the
- 47:43audience as his. Assistant and making it funny as
- 47:45hell. And the poor man was stressed
- 47:48like the assistant in his little costume.
- 47:50Literally. I yelled out.
- 47:51I'm so overwhelmed right now. Well, thank you all for
- 47:57listening and. We'll catch you guys next week.
- 48:01If we survive round two of the rent pair.
- 48:03I hope we do. We'll be back.
- 48:07Bye guys, I love you. I'm still thinking about it.
