Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: One of these things, I think.
- 0:01Speaker 2: So it's Radio from Hell with another list, because people
- 0:05Speaker 2: love a good list X ninety six. Now I saw
- 0:08Speaker 2: this this morning and I haven't had a chance to
- 0:10Speaker 2: go over with too much too closely, but it's the
- 0:14Speaker 2: world's top livable cities.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Is Salt Lake in there?
- 0:17Speaker 2: I don't think so. So the most livable city in
- 0:22Speaker 2: the world Copenhagen, ah, the Danish capital, knocked Vienna off
- 0:28Speaker 2: its throne after three years at the top of The
- 0:32Speaker 2: Economist Intelligence unit of the Economist magazine did this most
- 0:37Speaker 2: Livable Cities rankings. So the the twenty twenty five index,
- 0:44Speaker 2: released yesterday, scored one hundred and seventy three cities across
- 0:48Speaker 2: five main categories stability, healthcare, culture, environment, education and infrastructure.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Copenhagen had a perfect score of one hundred.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Let's see three Australian cities Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide cracked
- 1:08Speaker 2: the top ten.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I know our friends Ed Brass and Amy Donaldson spent
- 1:13Speaker 3: quite a bit of time there and they both just
- 1:16Speaker 3: loved it.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I've been. I've been to Sydney and it was a
- 1:20Speaker 2: wonderful place. Auckland, New Zealand, is also in.
- 1:24Speaker 1: The top that's almost Australia. New Zealand is like a
- 1:27Speaker 1: dream for me to visit.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Vancouver, Canada was the lone North American city to make
- 1:32Speaker 2: the cut, coming in at ten number ten. Overall, global
- 1:37Speaker 2: liveability remained flat over the past year, with an average
- 1:40Speaker 2: city score of seventy six point one out of one hundred.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So there you go. Those are the top ten. But
- 1:47Speaker 2: I'm trying to see.
- 1:48Speaker 3: What's the Where's the only US city? What's the highest
- 1:52Speaker 3: ranking US city?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:54Speaker 1: There it is, I find I found it.
- 1:55Speaker 2: What is it?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Highest ranking US city on the list was Honolulu, Hawaii,
- 1:59Speaker 3: which came into twenty third overall. Aren't there better cities
- 2:02Speaker 3: in Hawaii than Honolulu?
- 2:03Speaker 2: No? I haven't been to Honolulu for a long time,
- 2:06Speaker 2: but I you know, people would castigate it and say, oh,
- 2:10Speaker 2: it's just so you know, it's just too busy, and
- 2:12Speaker 2: they're I had a great time there and enjoyed it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And I think part of the reason Gina there would
- 2:17Speaker 2: be on be there is that it's rather than some
- 2:22Speaker 2: smaller cities in Hawaii. Is that there you can get
- 2:26Speaker 2: anything you want there, you know what I mean.
- 2:28Speaker 1: They're because there are a lot of cities.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Yeah, there are lots of services. That's that's the reason.
- 2:34Speaker 2: So yeah, but Copenhagen looks just beautiful. I've never been
- 2:39Speaker 2: to Denmark and I would love to go, and and
- 2:44Speaker 2: I've been trying to figure out where i could.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Move, like move, move like. Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I know a lot of people are going to Portugal. Yeah,
- 2:53Speaker 3: because I guess it's easy to immigrate.
- 2:56Speaker 2: There are a lot of Americans. There are a lot
- 2:58Speaker 2: of Americans there. You know, there's I forget, there's a
- 3:01Speaker 2: city just north of the capital that is like a
- 3:07Speaker 2: lot of Americans.
- 3:09Speaker 3: But I also know a lot of these countries are
- 3:11Speaker 3: starting to make it more difficult or for people to
- 3:15Speaker 3: immigrate there and there.
- 3:18Speaker 2: They kind of don't want us a lot of times. Yep,
- 3:20Speaker 2: they just you know, well, you know, it's like Carrie
- 3:25Speaker 2: was saying when he went to South Korea and Japan,
- 3:28Speaker 2: he was thinking he should get a Canadian hat pin
- 3:31Speaker 2: or something so that people would think he was Canadian
- 3:34Speaker 2: and not American. People are not happy with Americans these days.
- 3:38Speaker 3: So I wonder why Italy for a while, this just
- 3:43Speaker 3: recently changed. You could apply for Italian citizenship if you
- 3:48Speaker 3: could trace just as far as like your grandparents or
- 3:53Speaker 3: great grandparents.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Back to like living in Italy, being born in Italy.
- 4:00Speaker 2: And it used to be that Australia a long time ago.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Australia paid people to move there.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Not anymore, No, but my cousin's been trying to get
- 4:09Speaker 3: Italian citizenship for a couple of years.
- 4:13Speaker 1: He's kind of.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Paving the way for the rest of us to maybe
- 4:16Speaker 3: And I would never give up my American citizenship, but
- 4:19Speaker 3: it'd be kind of to have a dual citizenship because
- 4:22Speaker 3: the great thing about having an Italian.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Citizenship is then you have a free wine. Well is
- 4:28Speaker 1: that right?
- 4:28Speaker 2: Free wine?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Because you have an EU.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Visa, you have an EU passport, which means you can
- 4:37Speaker 3: move easier amongst all those countries.
- 4:41Speaker 1: My friend's parents had dual citizenship in Spain and they
- 4:44Speaker 1: actually just this year.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Spain is another place people are moving.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah, they wanted to run away, and I don't blame.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Honolulu was the highest rank, as Gina said, coming in
- 4:53Speaker 2: at number twenty three, followed by Atlanta twenty nine.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Atlanta Atlanta, Yeah, I don't.
- 5:01Speaker 2: I mean again, a lot of there are a lot
- 5:03Speaker 2: of services there, but it is a confusing, congested city.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Miami and Portland, Oregon, tide for forty fourth. Charlotte, North Carolina,
- 5:15Speaker 2: and Indianapolis landed in the top fifty. Declining healthcare scores
- 5:21Speaker 2: for the four Canadian cities included in the index helped
- 5:23Speaker 2: drag down the overall average for North America compared to
- 5:27Speaker 2: a year ago. And on the other end of the rankings, Damascus,
- 5:33Speaker 2: Syria was ranked as the least livable city in the world.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Well, I'm sure a lot of these cities, there's not
- 5:39Speaker 3: much left there.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Tripoli, Libya, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Karachi, Pakistan, Karachi, Pakistan, and Algiers,
- 5:49Speaker 2: Algeria also ranked in the bottom five.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I don't want to live anywhere else. I don't want to.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I love this country and now I want to be here.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I don't want to escape. No, I just want to
- 6:02Speaker 1: make it better.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yes, I would like to I would like to go.
- 6:06Speaker 2: I would like to live in a place that had
- 6:07Speaker 2: better health care because because it's because healthcare here sucks. Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 2: it's it's terrible. It's the it's it's the worst, one
- 6:17Speaker 2: of the worst, you know, I mean, And it's also
- 6:20Speaker 2: you know, like, uh, rates of infant's infant mortality very
- 6:27Speaker 2: high here. You know, if we don't take as good
- 6:30Speaker 2: enough care of our children.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Somebody said, my partner did what Gina's cousin's doing. She's
- 6:35Speaker 3: now a citizen of Ireland. That because Katie, you look
- 6:40Speaker 3: like a local there.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:41Speaker 3: And uh.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And they speak English so you don't.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Have to learn from and they sort of they sort
- 6:46Speaker 2: of speaking.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Sometimes some of them do still speak Gaelic or Whales.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I'd go to Wales too, But all right, is that it?
- 6:54Speaker 3: Then?
- 6:55Speaker 2: I think?
- 6:55Speaker 1: So we've hoped you'd enjoyed another less with Rat from
- 7:00Speaker 1: Hell on X ninety six.
