Speaker 3: and the Governor's let me just say, proposed proposals, if
• 1:57
Speaker 3: that makes any sense about Peia, and a lot of

Speaker 3: folks think that if what's been put out there is
• 2:05
Speaker 3: going to come to pass, it's going to be a
• 2:08
Speaker 3: hard sale with the legislature, and more importantly, it's going
• 2:10
Speaker 3: to be a hard sale from the legislators to their constituents.

Speaker 3: I want to start with talking a little football though.
• 2:52
Speaker 3: High school football gets underway tonight across the great state
• 2:55
Speaker 3: of West Virginia. Now tonight on ninety six to one KWS,
• 2:59
Speaker 3: we're gonna have cover Joe the Huskies of Herbert Hoover
• 3:01
Speaker 3: as they travel to Independence here to talk about it
• 3:04
Speaker 3: as Tom Bragg, how you doing man?
• 3:06
  Speaker 5: Doing good?
• 3:06
  Speaker 6: Dave?
• 3:06
Speaker 3: How are you this sing? I am doing doing fine.
• 3:08
Speaker 3: Now That's not the only game we're covering tonight. Of course,
• 3:11
Speaker 3: We've got Spring Valley at GW that'll be on five
• 3:14
Speaker 3: ADWCCHS Chris Launch near Parker We have the call on
• 3:18
Speaker 3: that game. And also we have the Metro News kickoff
• 3:21
Speaker 3: game tonight, which will be a Metro News TV Morgantown
• 3:24
Speaker 3: of Parkersburg and you can catch that one on the
• 3:26
Speaker 3: app tonight. But you guys are back of the land
• 3:28
Speaker 3: of the Huskies again. This is you and Mac guitar Murphy.
• 3:31
Speaker 3: That's correct. But yeah, doing the Hoover games for ninety
• 3:34
Speaker 3: six to one again this season. Real excited for it.
• 3:36
Speaker 3: We had had a good run last year. Ultimately Hoover
• 3:39
Speaker 3: came up a little bit short, lost in the state
• 3:41
Speaker 3: championship game, but we didn't do that game. Dave, so
• 3:44
Speaker 3: Matt Ny are undefeated as the Hoover broadcast team. We're
• 3:48
Speaker 3: going to try to keep that going Tonight. Husky's got
• 3:50
Speaker 3: a tough one to open up this season. Got to
• 3:52
Speaker 3: go on the road down to Cole City and take
• 3:54
Speaker 3: on Independence Patriots. Always always just a tough program in
• 3:58
Speaker 3: the double A days. If you've been paying attention for
• 4:01
Speaker 3: a couple of years. That's who Hoover lost to in
• 4:03
  Speaker 3: the Double.
• 4:03
Speaker 7: A State championship game a few years back, State semi
• 4:06
Speaker 7: finalist in Double A last year. Now you got to
• 4:09
Speaker 7: go on the road play against that team, and a
• 4:11
Speaker 7: lot of those guys are back from that team for
• 4:12
Speaker 7: Independence last year. They had a freshman quarterback last year,
• 4:15
Speaker 7: Brock Green double A first team All State as a freshman.
• 4:18
  Speaker 7: He's back obviously as a sophomore. And they've got a
• 4:21
Speaker 7: kind of do it all guy, Silas Nelson, kind of
• 4:23
Speaker 7: in the mold of some of those just tough dudes
• 4:25
Speaker 7: that have come through.
• 4:26
Speaker 3: There the last ten years.
• 4:27
Speaker 7: Reminds me a lot of Atticus Goods and Kennedy Award
• 4:30
Speaker 7: winner from Independence four five years ago. Runs the ball,
• 4:33
Speaker 7: plays tough, tough as nails defense all over the field.
• 4:35
Speaker 7: He's a guy you got to keep your eye on.
• 4:37
Speaker 7: If your Joey Field's and the Hoover staff. Hoover, on
• 4:40
Speaker 7: the other hand, it's going to be it's going to
• 4:42
Speaker 7: be interesting to see how Hoover reacts to life after
• 4:46
Speaker 7: Dane Hatfield, the four year starting quarterback all everything, broke
• 4:49
Speaker 7: all the records down there.
• 4:50
Speaker 3: He's off to college. Dane Hatfield wasn't he playing in
• 4:53
Speaker 3: the seventies. It just seems like there.
• 4:56
Speaker 7: It seems like it. And with the lineage of the
• 4:59
Speaker 7: Hatfield brother you know, he has older brothers that played
• 5:01
Speaker 7: at Hoover. He's got a younger brother who's still playing
• 5:03
Speaker 7: at Hoover. It does seem like Hatfield's been at Hoover
• 5:06
Speaker 7: since the seventies. But no, Dan's off to college now,
• 5:09
Speaker 7: and Hoover's got a new quarterback in They got to
• 5:11
Speaker 7: transfer in from Capitol High School here in Charleston. He's
• 5:15
Speaker 7: a sophomore. Peyton Grigsby very good for the Cougars last year,
• 5:19
Speaker 7: but it was more of a run first offense for them.
• 5:22
Speaker 7: Probably going to be tasked with throwing the ball around
• 5:24
Speaker 7: a little bit more as a sophomore at Hoover, and
• 5:26
Speaker 7: they've got some weapons to go to. Blake Fisher's a
• 5:28
Speaker 7: senior running back that can split out, likes to catch
• 5:31
Speaker 7: the ball. He just is a guy that makes plays.
• 5:33
Speaker 7: He's one of those dudes Joey Field's doesn't really matter
• 5:35
Speaker 7: where he lines him up. He's a guy that he's
• 5:36
Speaker 7: going to try to get the ball in his hands.
• 5:38
Speaker 7: Sam Key returning senior receiver. Probably was Hatfield's leading target
• 5:42
Speaker 7: as a receiver last year, but they didn't throw it
• 5:44
Speaker 7: around a ton. They throw it around some. But he's
• 5:46
Speaker 7: going to be more involved this year, and they've got
• 5:48
Speaker 7: some impact transfers in at those skill positions. Aidan Hernandez
• 5:51
Speaker 7: came in from Winfield. He's going to be a senior.
• 5:53
Speaker 7: He's going to play receiver, He's going to play a
• 5:55
Speaker 7: little safety. I think he goes about six to two
• 5:57
Speaker 7: hundred pounds. He's just big athletic dude. It was really
• 6:00
Speaker 7: good soccer player as a kid. That guy's just been
• 6:02
Speaker 7: one of those athletes. Whatever ball or sport you put
• 6:04
Speaker 7: him into, he's good. And then they also got no
• 6:07
Speaker 7: Sean Hampton, a junior receiver slash defensive back who came
• 6:10
Speaker 7: in from Hurrican this offseason. The pieces are there for
• 6:15
Speaker 7: them to be very very good.
• 6:16
  Speaker 3: Again this year.
• 6:17
Speaker 7: It's just a matter of seeing them all put it together.
• 6:20
Speaker 7: And it seems like over the years this will be
• 6:22
Speaker 7: Joey Fields six season and Hoover he's been very good
• 6:24
Speaker 7: at that kind of piecing things together, filling in spots
• 6:27
Speaker 7: where guys have graduated or moved on. But you know,
• 6:30
Speaker 7: every season's new and we'll see if they can do
• 6:32
Speaker 7: it again this year. It starts out with a tough
• 6:33
Speaker 7: one tonight, so iry.
• 6:34
Speaker 3: To Tom Bragg again about our coverage of Herbert Hoover football,
• 6:37
Speaker 3: and then what times coverage tonight game kicks off at seven,
• 6:40
Speaker 3: we're usually about five ten minutes before that, having preview
• 6:42
Speaker 3: you and Matt Murphy covering the game. The Dave Allen
• 6:44
Speaker 3: Show and five eighty Live has brought to you in
• 6:46
Speaker 3: part but I Live Healthy West Virginia presented by WVU Medicine.
• 6:49
Speaker 3: It's a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles and beyond the stage.
• 6:52
Speaker 3: Check out the latest episodes wv metronews dot com under
• 6:55
Speaker 3: the podcast menu. And you know, we talk about college football,
• 6:58
Speaker 3: and everybody's excited about the coach, coach Rod returning to Morgantown.
• 7:02
Speaker 3: We got a new coach at Marshall and coach Tony Gibson,
• 7:07
Speaker 3: and the landscape of college football has changed so much
• 7:10
Speaker 3: over the last couple of years because you got to
• 7:12
Speaker 3: have a program to use the old saying to know
• 7:14
Speaker 3: who the players are, especially true at Marshall, but it's
• 7:18
Speaker 3: getting It's that way in high school football too, because
• 7:20
Speaker 3: I mean a lot of these standout players. I was
• 7:22
Speaker 3: reading an article in the paper the other day about
• 7:24
Speaker 3: one particular young man and he was playing in something
• 7:27
Speaker 3: like his this is like his third school in four years.
• 7:30
Speaker 3: And I'm not I'll let me just say I'm old school.
• 7:34
  Speaker 6: You know that.
• 7:36
Speaker 3: I understand why parents or grandparents want to move their
• 7:42
Speaker 3: kids to give them an opportunity, but I don't know.
• 7:44
Speaker 3: I just I'm just going to go on the record
• 7:46
Speaker 3: and I'm going to make a lot of parents angry
• 7:48
  Speaker 3: when I say this. I don't like it, and a
• 7:50
Speaker 3: lot of coaches are gonna get I don't like it
• 7:52
Speaker 3: at all, But I'm old Nobody cares what I think.
• 7:55
Speaker 7: Yeah, I think with the coaches that the split probably
• 7:57
Speaker 7: falls along well, who's benefiting and who's getting hurt this,
• 8:00
Speaker 7: Which coaches are having programs that are just getting decimated
• 8:03
Speaker 7: by this, and which coaches are kind of reaping the
• 8:06
Speaker 7: benefits of those kids leaving those other programs and coming
• 8:09
Speaker 7: to theirs. It's just a different world, Dave. I've said
• 8:11
Speaker 7: it about college football with the advent of the transfer
• 8:14
Speaker 7: portal and then NIL coming in.
• 8:17
Speaker 3: I mean, it is what it is.
• 8:18
Speaker 7: I'm not putting a value or a judgment on it,
• 8:20
Speaker 7: but it's different and it's a different world for high
• 8:22
Speaker 7: school football, especially in West Virginia the last few years
• 8:25
Speaker 7: with the changes to the transfer rules in state, and
• 8:29
Speaker 7: like you said, you've seen it blow up. I think personally,
• 8:32
Speaker 7: there's something to be said for playing with the guys
• 8:36
Speaker 7: you grew up with and doesn't matter if it's football
• 8:37
Speaker 7: or soccer, or basketball or volleyball, baseball, whatever you got.
• 8:41
Speaker 7: I think there's something to that and playing for your community,
• 8:44
Speaker 7: and I think you lose a little bit of that
• 8:45
Speaker 7: with kind of the wild West aspect of the way
• 8:48
Speaker 7: some of these kids are moving around. But I mean,
• 8:51
Speaker 7: they've changed the rules and it seems like people are
• 8:55
Speaker 7: playing within those. We don't like it, but it seems
• 8:57
Speaker 7: like maybe it seems like maybe it's the rule that's
• 9:01
  Speaker 7: the issue.
• 9:02
Speaker 3: And let's face it, I'm from Logan. We invented this.
• 9:04
  Speaker 6: I mean it.
• 9:05
Speaker 3: I'm just going to say. I'm just going to say
• 9:07
Speaker 3: we kind of invented this in the nineteen sixties and seventies.
• 9:10
Speaker 3: But and I did get another perspective on this, and
• 9:13
Speaker 3: listeners have heard me talk about this on the show before.
• 9:15
Speaker 3: I did get another perspective on this from a coach,
• 9:18
Speaker 3: and I have not revealed who this coach is, and
• 9:20
Speaker 3: I'm not going to reveal who the coach is, but
• 9:21
Speaker 3: I had a coach one time. Tell me, Look, if
• 9:23
Speaker 3: I have got a young man or young a student athlete,
• 9:27
Speaker 3: I'll put it that way. A student athlete that is
• 9:29
Speaker 3: playing at some small school in fill in name here
• 9:33
Speaker 3: to be any rural county, and their only way to
• 9:37
Speaker 3: be able to play college football and more importantly, to
• 9:42
Speaker 3: get a college education, whatever the sport is, a college education,
• 9:47
Speaker 3: is to transfer out of one of these smaller schools
• 9:52
Speaker 3: to a larger school, maybe in the Charleston area or
• 9:55
Speaker 3: the Morgantown or how Neatson area or whatever. Who am
• 9:58
Speaker 3: I to stand in their way? Because this is the
• 10:00
Speaker 3: only opportunity that this student is going to have to
• 10:02
  Speaker 3: get a college education. I understand. I don't know how
• 10:06
Speaker 3: many of those kids that impacts and then how many
• 10:09
Speaker 3: of those kids that goes for. But I did get
• 10:12
Speaker 3: the argument, Yeah, I'm with you on that.
• 10:14
Speaker 7: I that that seems kind of like a very specific situation,
• 10:19
Speaker 7: but not one that doesn't exist, you know.
• 10:23
  Speaker 3: I mean, let's face it, a lot, tom a lot
• 10:25
Speaker 3: of these kids are transferring just so the schools could
• 10:28
Speaker 3: win a championship, and and and and thus schools win championships,
• 10:33
Speaker 3: they get more stuff, they get more attention on them.
• 10:35
Speaker 3: So it's it's, you know, you can't put the milk
• 10:37
Speaker 3: back in the cart.
• 10:38
  Speaker 8: You know.
• 10:39
Speaker 3: I mean, And sometimes it's a style thing.
• 10:41
Speaker 7: Maybe there's a receiver that is a very good receiver,
• 10:43
Speaker 7: but he plays at a school that's running the triple
• 10:45
Speaker 7: option and they're not they're not throwing the ball, and
• 10:47
Speaker 7: he's got an opportunity to go somewhere where they throw
• 10:49
  Speaker 7: the ball.
• 10:50
Speaker 3: I mean, it is what it is.
• 10:50
Speaker 7: As long as you're not breaking the rules, I guess
• 10:52
Speaker 7: I don't have a problem with it. But it just
• 10:54
Speaker 7: it doesn't feel like it used to.
• 10:55
  Speaker 5: And what.
• 10:58
Speaker 3: It used to be is what it was I fell
• 11:00
Speaker 3: in love with. So it's a little different.
• 11:01
  Speaker 7: It's a little transition, but man, it's it's high school
• 11:05
Speaker 7: football season in West Virginia.
• 11:06
  Speaker 5: Today.
• 11:07
Speaker 7: It feels a little bit like Christmas. We've been you know,
• 11:09
Speaker 7: I was thinking about it this morning. We've been doing
• 11:12
Speaker 7: the hashtag on Twitter for high school football in West Virginia.
• 11:15
Speaker 7: This will be our fourteenth season to do it. I
• 11:17
Speaker 7: remember when he's at Marshall now working for the athletic department.
• 11:20
Speaker 7: But Grant Trailer when he was a reporter at the
• 11:22
Speaker 7: Herald Dispatch and I was a reporter in Fairmont, we
• 11:24
Speaker 7: needed a way to trade scores back and forth without like, hey,
• 11:27
Speaker 7: did you see my text? We just started using that
• 11:28
Speaker 7: hashtag WV prep FB It will be fourteen seasons.
• 11:32
Speaker 3: Where did the time go?
• 11:33
Speaker 7: So there are going to be kids in high school
• 11:34
Speaker 7: now that were born the year we started using that
• 11:37
  Speaker 7: hashtag on Twitter.
• 11:38
Speaker 3: Well, it was funny. I was texting the other day
• 11:41
Speaker 3: with the head coach. We have a new head coach
• 11:44
Speaker 3: in my alma mater, Logan High School, and Nick Booth
• 11:47
Speaker 3: is the new coach. Very very good friend of mine.
• 11:50
Speaker 3: It has been for years. He and I actually worked together.
• 11:52
Speaker 3: He did games for us on the radio station down there.
• 11:55
Speaker 3: And I was just texting back and forth with him
• 11:57
Speaker 3: the other day and I said, well, how do you
• 11:58
Speaker 3: feel about the season, coach? You know, just friendly conversation.
• 12:02
Speaker 3: And I ask him who the starting quarterback was? And
• 12:04
  Speaker 3: I said, I don't know why I asked that, because
• 12:07
  Speaker 3: I don't know. I said, maybe I should have said
• 12:09
Speaker 3: in my text, who are the parents or the grandparents
• 12:12
Speaker 3: of the starting quarterback because they I will have no
• 12:15
Speaker 3: idea who this young man is and he gave me
• 12:17
Speaker 3: the name and say, yeah, I don't know who's who
• 12:19
Speaker 3: are his parents and grandparents? That's all I know. You
• 12:23
Speaker 3: mentioned NIL NIL is a thing now, But talking to
• 12:27
Speaker 3: Fred Persinger on Metro News Midday, I don't think it's
• 12:29
Speaker 3: going to be the big thing for high school athletes
• 12:31
Speaker 3: and people think it is. The way the rules are
• 12:33
Speaker 3: in West Virginia, you can't you can't pose in front
• 12:36
Speaker 3: of the school. You can't say if I'm the kid
• 12:38
Speaker 3: from GW using that as an example that I'm the
• 12:41
Speaker 3: starting quarterback for GW, you can't do that. I don't
• 12:43
Speaker 3: think it's going to be as big a deal as
• 12:45
Speaker 3: people think it is in West Virginia.
• 12:46
Speaker 7: No, I think there just aren't players of that I
• 12:51
Speaker 7: don't want to say caliber, but of that stature socially
• 12:54
Speaker 7: around statewide to be able to really cash in on that.
• 12:57
Speaker 7: I think you get some hyper local kids', small schools,
• 13:01
Speaker 7: not a whole like one school in a county. You've
• 13:03
Speaker 7: kind of got a bigger pond to pull from as
• 13:05
Speaker 7: far as potential NIL donors or sponsors there.
• 13:08
Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm with you, guys.
• 13:09
Speaker 7: And I think in high school football, high school sports
• 13:12
Speaker 7: in West Virginia, the coaches are the personalities. That's who
• 13:15
Speaker 7: you could really get to promote a team or promote
• 13:19
Speaker 7: a service associated with the team. Because the players, I mean,
• 13:22
Speaker 7: they're in there out Usually they're kids that are going
• 13:25
Speaker 7: if they're going to college, they're going to smaller schools,
• 13:27
Speaker 7: going to schools in the NEC. So there's I just
• 13:29
Speaker 7: don't think there's opportunity there. But it's not like the
• 13:32
Speaker 7: riches that people maybe are imagining when they see what
• 13:35
Speaker 7: some of these college guys are getting.
• 13:36
Speaker 3: I don't think it's going to be that. This is
• 13:37
Speaker 3: not Texas or Ohio State.
• 13:39
Speaker 7: No, no, no, no, even I mean, you know, look
• 13:41
Speaker 7: with the schools not supposed to be involved, and you're
• 13:44
Speaker 7: not supposed to have a school logo or another team's
• 13:47
Speaker 7: logo on anything. It's just like, what's the point, you know,
• 13:49
Speaker 7: what is the company that's paying this money getting in
• 13:53
Speaker 7: return for not being able to associate with the school
• 13:56
Speaker 7: or the program. It's just the player And I don't
• 13:58
  Speaker 7: think I mean, I love the players, but I don't
• 14:00
Speaker 7: think that's selling stuff for whoever is going to be
• 14:03
  Speaker 7: the sponsor.
• 14:03
Speaker 3: All Right, we got Herbert Hoover tonight traveling to Independence.

Speaker 3: Nine twenty four Welcome Back to the Show. Jack says
• 17:26
Speaker 3: making frequent school changes negatively impact kids by creating academic gap,
• 17:31
Speaker 3: social isolation, and anxiety due to the constant need to
• 17:33
Speaker 3: adapt to new environments, routines, and peer groups. These transitions
• 17:37
Speaker 3: disrupt learning, hinder the development of stable relationships, and can
• 17:40
Speaker 3: lead to decreased self esteem, behavioral problems, and lower academic
• 17:44
Speaker 3: achievements over time. While some children develop adaptability, many struggle
• 17:49
Speaker 3: with the continuous stress of starting over, which can create
• 17:52
Speaker 3: long term challenges for their overall well being. That was
• 17:54
Speaker 3: a text, And I don't know who the text is,
• 17:57
Speaker 3: but I'm going to say that person sounds like they

• 18:55
Speaker 3: this event is sold out, so apparently here apparently you know.
• 18:59
Speaker 3: My intro to my the show says he's kind of
• 19:01
Speaker 3: a big deal, which is kind of a joke. You
• 19:03
Speaker 3: are a big deal, Tara, I don't know about that. Well,
• 19:07
Speaker 3: apparently people wanted to come see.
• 19:08
Speaker 13: You tonight, so I'm honored.
• 19:10
Speaker 3: Welcome to Charleston. Welcome to Charleston.
• 19:12
  Speaker 6: Thank you.
• 19:12
Speaker 13: Yes, this is my first time.
• 19:13
Speaker 3: I was going to say, where is home for you?
• 19:15
Speaker 3: Where are you from?
• 19:16
Speaker 13: I'm from Atlanta, Atlanta, GA.
• 19:18
Speaker 3: And this's your first time in Charleston.
• 19:19
Speaker 13: It's the first time in West Virginia.
• 19:21
Speaker 3: Really, yes, Okay, Well, here's what you need to know
• 19:23
Speaker 3: about West Virginia. We're an actual state. Okay. We're nowhere
• 19:26
Speaker 3: near Richmond or Rowanoak, which we get because you be surprised.
• 19:30
Speaker 3: And your folks you're working with will tell you the
• 19:32
Speaker 3: number of times people say, oh, you're from West Virginia.
• 19:34
Speaker 3: I have a cousin in rowan Oak. Well that's nice,
• 19:37
Speaker 3: but we're nowhere near rowan Oak or Richmond or any
• 19:40
Speaker 3: of those other cities. That's what's your impression of West
• 19:42
  Speaker 3: Virginia so far?
• 19:43
  Speaker 6: Oh?
• 19:43
Speaker 14: So far, I've met friendly people. I mean I just
• 19:46
Speaker 14: got here last night, really late, so I haven't had
• 19:48
Speaker 14: a chance to see anything. But the people I've encountered
• 19:51
Speaker 14: have been so friendly and nice.
• 19:52
Speaker 3: Well, let me tell you one thing that goes I
• 19:55
Speaker 3: think unnoticed by a lot of people. We have a
• 19:57
Speaker 3: really good food scene here in Charleston, and I know
• 20:00
Speaker 3: something about food. I'm a fan, you know. So so
• 20:04
Speaker 3: let me just say, make sure while you're in town,
• 20:06
Speaker 3: how long you're going to be in town, make sure
• 20:08
Speaker 3: somebody takes you out for some fine cuisine here in Charleston,
• 20:10
Speaker 3: because we've got some good stuff here. All right, So
• 20:13
Speaker 3: you're from from Atlanta's were from Atlanta? Give us your bio?
• 20:16
Speaker 3: What do people need to know about you?
• 20:18
Speaker 14: I mean, I'm a journalist by trade, okay, storyteller and
• 20:23
Speaker 14: for the last seven years I've become an actual explorer.
• 20:29
Speaker 14: So my title is explorer and what I've been doing
• 20:33
Speaker 14: over the last seven years is following diving with telling
• 20:37
Speaker 14: stories about a group of black scuba divers who dive
• 20:40
Speaker 14: for slave ship wrecks around the world.
• 20:43
Speaker 3: I read a little bit, and by the way, on
• 20:45
Speaker 3: your bio, author, storyteller, and adventurer. I like that. Yes,
• 20:49
Speaker 3: that's pretty that that's pretty cool. What was it that
• 20:52
Speaker 3: made you? I mean, you were journalists by what kind
• 20:54
Speaker 3: of journalism did you do. I mean, what did you
• 20:56
Speaker 3: Where did you work?
• 20:57
Speaker 13: Nothing like what I'm doing now?
• 20:58
  Speaker 3: Okay.
• 20:59
Speaker 14: I did food and travel, girl and home, right right.
• 21:05
Speaker 14: I really didn't do anything around history, around adventure. This
• 21:10
Speaker 14: was all accidental. I happened to be living in Washington,
• 21:14
Speaker 14: DC and I saw a picture in the National Museum
• 21:20
Speaker 14: of African American History and Culture. And this picture was
• 21:23
Speaker 14: a It was a picture of a group of black
• 21:26
Speaker 14: women scuba divers. And I had never seen a group
• 21:30
Speaker 14: of black women's scuba divers before. So the picture just
• 21:34
Speaker 14: touched me and made me interested, and I ended up
• 21:37
Speaker 14: calling them up and they invited me to join them.
• 21:40
Speaker 3: Now, had you ever done scuba diving in the past?
• 21:43
Speaker 13: No, of course not, of course not no.
• 21:47
Speaker 3: And what was your Because I am I've never gone
• 21:51
Speaker 3: scuba diving, so I don't have anything for a point
• 21:54
Speaker 3: of reference, But what was your first scuba diving experience?
• 21:57
  Speaker 12: Like?
• 21:57
Speaker 3: Were you a little apprehensive at first? I mean, I
• 21:59
Speaker 3: think a problem you are. I would think I took
• 22:01
Speaker 3: to it like a fish, had no pun intended.
• 22:05
Speaker 14: I mean, I grew up swimming. I didn't know the ocean,
• 22:09
Speaker 14: but I loved the water. And there's just something that
• 22:13
Speaker 14: is so beautiful about scuba diving, about being under the water.
• 22:18
Speaker 14: It's so meditative and beautiful, and these divers are doing
• 22:26
Speaker 14: such incredible work under the water as they search for history.
• 22:31
Speaker 14: It just felt like an amazing story to tell and
• 22:35
Speaker 14: an amazing adventure to have.
• 22:38
Speaker 3: And so what was their backstory? I mean, I know
• 22:42
Speaker 3: that you have written about it. I mean how did
• 22:45
Speaker 3: they get into this? I mean how did that? I
• 22:47
Speaker 3: mean is this is this a common thing? Something goes
• 22:49
Speaker 3: on a lot. I mean, what was their story?
• 22:51
Speaker 13: Well, they are a part of a group called Diving
• 22:54
  Speaker 13: with a Purpose.
• 22:54
Speaker 14: Yeah, and the group has been around for over twenty
• 22:57
Speaker 14: years and it started because they're founder, who's from Tennessee,
• 23:04
Speaker 14: was invited by an archaeologist down to a park in Florida,
• 23:09
Speaker 14: and the archaeologist thought that she had found a slave
• 23:13
Speaker 14: ship wreck. But she was the lone archaeologist in the
• 23:16
Speaker 14: park and the main rule about scuba diving is that
• 23:21
Speaker 14: you can't dive alone. So she approached this group called
• 23:26
Speaker 14: the National Association of Black Scuba Divers and invited their
• 23:30
Speaker 14: Southeastern representative to come down and to check out this wreck.
• 23:36
Speaker 14: And when he came down, she said that she'd teach
• 23:39
Speaker 14: him how to actually do the documentation work of it's
• 23:48
Speaker 14: archaeological mapping, and she invited him to dive with her,
• 23:54
Speaker 14: and when he did it, he was like, I love
• 23:56
Speaker 14: to scuba dive. I'm with all of these people who
• 23:58
Speaker 14: loved to scuba dive, but we're not die with a Purpose.
• 24:01
Speaker 13: So hence the creation of the group and that name.
• 24:06
Speaker 14: So now the group has about five hundred divers really
• 24:10
Speaker 14: that are trained in this methodology that's called archaeology. It's mapping.
• 24:17
Speaker 14: So they're down there documenting the wrecks that are on
• 24:20
  Speaker 14: the ocean and.
• 24:21
Speaker 3: Where give us a couple of the areas that they
• 24:23
Speaker 3: would go in your experience.
• 24:25
Speaker 14: So Diving with a Purpose has done missions all around
• 24:27
Speaker 14: the world. Florida, Alabama, so that's the United States. They've
• 24:33
Speaker 14: done missions in Costa Rica, Saint Croix, Mozambique, South Africa, Senegal.
• 24:40
Speaker 14: It's really like the Transatlantic slave trade. They were close
• 24:45
Speaker 14: to seventy nations that were involved in the trade in Europe, Africa,
• 24:51
Speaker 14: North America, South America. So there are ships everywhere. So
• 24:57
Speaker 14: the missions are happening all over the world.
• 24:59
Speaker 3: And how proximately, I know, you don't know the exact
• 25:01
Speaker 3: number because you're still discovering them. But how many are
• 25:04
Speaker 3: we talking about that maybe out there? Approximately?
• 25:06
Speaker 14: Well, they know that there were twelve thousand ships that
• 25:11
Speaker 14: participated in the slave trade, twelve thousand ships, and they've
• 25:15
Speaker 14: estimated that approximately a thousand of those ships wrecked. But
• 25:20
Speaker 14: to date they have found less than twenty of those wrecks.
• 25:25
Speaker 14: So there is a whole lot of history out there.
• 25:28
  Speaker 2: To all oceans.
• 25:29
Speaker 3: Oceans, Okay, And I'm not trying to make a lie
• 25:32
Speaker 3: of the situation, so I'll get to smile off my
• 25:34
Speaker 3: face when I said that really bad joke there. But
• 25:36
Speaker 3: let's talk about the casualties that went involved in that,
• 25:39
Speaker 3: because when these ships went down that they were filled
• 25:42
Speaker 3: with people with people. Talk about the casualties.
• 25:47
Speaker 14: So the estimates are that there were twelve point five
• 25:52
Speaker 14: million Africans that were brought from Africa to the Americas,
• 25:57
Speaker 14: so that's how many people were trafficked, and they estimate
• 26:00
Speaker 14: that approximately one point.
• 26:02
Speaker 13: Eight million actually died in the ocean.
• 26:07
Speaker 14: So in that crossing from Africa to the Americas, one
• 26:13
Speaker 14: point eight million people lost their lives in the ocean,
• 26:17
Speaker 14: and most of us don't know those numbers. So what
• 26:19
Speaker 14: these divers are doing in partnership with historians and archaeologists.
• 26:25
Speaker 14: They're finding this history and hoping to bring these stories
• 26:28
Speaker 14: back into memory. I think it's really incredible work.
• 26:31
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's it's fascinating to me when I
• 26:34
Speaker 3: first was doing a little deep dive. Again, no pun intended.
• 26:37
Speaker 13: You can't help yourself.
• 26:38
Speaker 3: I can't help myself. It's thirty seven years of this,
• 26:40
Speaker 3: I've been doing this, but it's fascinating story. Meaning again,
• 26:44
Speaker 3: we're talking to author Tara Roberts the Dave Island showing

Speaker 3: In addition to all this, you got an upcoming memoir
• 27:12
Speaker 3: coming out to understand talk about that.
• 27:14
Speaker 14: Yeah, Well, I'm a storyteller and so I've been finding
• 27:18
Speaker 14: creative and interesting ways to tell the story. And my
• 27:22
Speaker 14: work has all been supported by National Geographic So I'm
• 27:27
Speaker 14: an explorer with nat GEO and they give me grants
• 27:30
Speaker 14: to tell these stories.
• 27:32
Speaker 13: So we started out.
• 27:33
Speaker 14: Originally I was writing blog in trees about my journey
• 27:37
Speaker 14: as I traveled with these divers around the world, and
• 27:41
Speaker 14: that grew because there's so many stories to tell into
• 27:45
  Speaker 14: a podcast. So I have a podcast out It's Gone
• 27:48
Speaker 14: into the Depths, tells the story of six of the
• 27:50
Speaker 14: ships that were found.
• 27:54
Speaker 13: And then I found that that still wasn't enough.
• 27:56
Speaker 14: There's still so many stories to tell that I felt
• 27:59
Speaker 14: like I needed to write book about this journey. So yes,
• 28:02
Speaker 14: the book came out in January.
• 28:04
Speaker 3: Written in the stars close, Okay, just think about what
• 28:08
  Speaker 3: I'm doing. Okay, I'm diving.

Speaker 13: Okay, So written in the Why did I.
• 28:13
Speaker 3: Say written in the stars, But probably because when I
• 28:15
Speaker 3: was typing some notes here, my mind probably went there.
• 28:18
Speaker 3: That's probably what it was written. Okay, written in the water.
• 28:21
Speaker 3: Written in the water. It makes a lot more sense. Yeah,
• 28:24
Speaker 3: it does. And where where's the book available?
• 28:27
  Speaker 13: It's available everywhere.
• 28:28
Speaker 3: Everywhere you get everywhere you get book you can get books.
• 28:31
Speaker 3: What do you hope people take away?
• 28:33
  Speaker 10: Uh?
• 28:33
Speaker 3: To our from from your from your talk that you're
• 28:36
Speaker 3: going to be given to night or with the Duly Center.
• 28:38
Speaker 3: What do you want people to take away from it?
• 28:39
Speaker 3: And when you do these type presentations.
• 28:42
Speaker 14: Well, I want people to know more about this history.
• 28:46
Speaker 14: So you'll hear some stories of the divers tonight, You'll
• 28:50
Speaker 14: hear some stories of the ships that were found. You'll
• 28:56
Speaker 14: hear some about something about my journey because this this
• 29:01
Speaker 14: trip has also been a transformative journey for me. I
• 29:06
Speaker 14: wasn't a person who was that interested in history quite honestly,
• 29:09
Speaker 14: before I started this journey. But this work has helped
• 29:15
Speaker 14: me find a sense of connection to the past that
• 29:19
  Speaker 14: I didn't have before. So I'll talk a little bit
• 29:21
Speaker 14: about that. But I hope that people come away knowing
• 29:24
Speaker 14: a little bit more about the past. I hope people
• 29:28
Speaker 14: are inspired to know that it's never too late to
• 29:31
Speaker 14: step into your your passion, to step onto your path.
• 29:38
Speaker 14: I never thought that I would be a scuba diver,
• 29:41
Speaker 14: you know, like I'm a grown person.
• 29:43
Speaker 13: Also, I'm not in my twenties.
• 29:44
Speaker 3: Most peples start that when they're a little bit younger
• 29:47
Speaker 3: year old, but people start it when they're younger. You know,
• 29:49
Speaker 3: passion from like your childhood or something, or at least
• 29:51
  Speaker 3: thirteen years possibly.
• 29:53
Speaker 14: Yeah, i completely left my job to start this adventure,
• 29:59
Speaker 14: so it's a complete do over of my life and
• 30:01
Speaker 14: I'm at the middle of my career. So i want
• 30:04
Speaker 14: people to take away that it's never too late to
• 30:07
Speaker 14: step into something you love.
• 30:08
  Speaker 6: Well.
• 30:08
Speaker 3: The event again is going to be at four to

• 30:15

• 30:20
Speaker 3: or where they could read your stuff, or social media
• 30:22
Speaker 3: that you want to people want to connect with you.

Speaker 8: instead they couldn't be with you in the studio. It's
• 34:36
Speaker 8: so much fun to be in the studio.
• 34:37
Speaker 3: It was interesting because you and I were talking and
• 34:40
Speaker 3: we set this up about a week or so ago
• 34:42
Speaker 3: for you to come on the show today. And I
• 34:44
Speaker 3: started thinking to myself this morning, I says self, I
• 34:47
Speaker 3: bet Tom Sussman is at the business summit at the
• 34:50
Speaker 3: Green Brier, and lo and behold, I get a text
• 34:52
Speaker 3: from you, but says, hey, I forgot I'm at the
• 34:54
Speaker 3: Green Brier. Uh so we'll have to do a bove phone.
• 34:57
Speaker 3: But I do appreciate. How are things going there at
• 34:59
Speaker 3: the in the summer? You down there yesterday or what?
• 35:02
Speaker 8: Yeah? I was down there. Yes, they're a good meeting
• 35:03
Speaker 8: a lot of folks. It's really upbeat conversation today is political.
• 35:09
Speaker 8: Senator Capitol talked this morning and UH to take your call.
• 35:13
Speaker 8: I left a Senator Justice's speech, so you know where
• 35:16
Speaker 8: you're right for me?
• 35:18
Speaker 3: Well, you just tell you, just tell you, just tell Jim.
• 35:21
Speaker 3: And baby dog is baby dog?
• 35:22
Speaker 8: There? I didn't see baby dogs.
• 35:25
Speaker 3: Oh oh, I wondering, wonder what's up with that?
• 35:28
Speaker 8: I don't know. He was giving a good speech.
• 35:30
Speaker 3: You just tell Jim, just say I'm sorry. But much
• 35:32
Speaker 3: bigger people need me, meaning Dave Allen. So there you go. Absolutely,
• 35:37
Speaker 3: And by the way, I do want to program me.
• 35:38
Speaker 3: Note Senator's Capital is going to be the first guest
• 35:41
Speaker 3: on talk line as Wilson and Meadows are broadcasting line
• 35:44
Speaker 3: from the Green Brier today. All right, So I want
• 35:46
  Speaker 3: to talk about p I I A. Tom, and you
• 35:48
Speaker 3: and I have talked about it in the past. It's
• 35:50
Speaker 3: a mess, and it has been for some time. Some
• 35:52
Speaker 3: info linked out linked out one way or the other
• 35:54
Speaker 3: that the governor UH may propose some changes to p
• 35:57
  Speaker 3: E I A, perhaps in a special session, that include
• 36:00
Speaker 3: changing the percentages that would be out of pocket and
• 36:03
Speaker 3: doing something that's been done quite frankly, Tom in the
• 36:06
Speaker 3: private sector for years. If someone is on PEIA and
• 36:10
Speaker 3: their spouse's employer offers insurance, they would have to be
• 36:12
Speaker 3: on that instead of PEIA. Just some of the things
• 36:16
Speaker 3: that are being thrown out there. Brad Michailhenny has been
• 36:19
Speaker 3: covering the story for about a week now. You're taking
• 36:21
Speaker 3: what you've what you've heard so far.
• 36:24
Speaker 8: So in terms of the having a different copay for
• 36:31
Speaker 8: a premium split for new employees versus current employees, so
• 36:35
Speaker 8: their current employees, or an eighty twenty split for new employees,
• 36:39
Speaker 8: we're hearing that he wants to go to seventy five
• 36:41
Speaker 8: twenty five. There's real concern by legislators and others that
• 36:46
Speaker 8: we're having a hard enough time in the state recruiting
• 36:50
Speaker 8: and retaining education employees and high need positions and state
• 36:55
Speaker 8: government that when you do a seventy five twenty five
• 36:58
Speaker 8: for new hires, that is just going to that job
• 37:01
Speaker 8: even tougher. Also, the savings up front is not really
• 37:05
Speaker 8: great because it'll be a while before that matriculates into
• 37:09
Speaker 8: the system. So there's some concern there. There's some concern
• 37:13
Speaker 8: on the spouse issue, and they also believe a lot
• 37:17
Speaker 8: of this can be done, not the seventy five twenty
• 37:19
Speaker 8: five could be done by the planet itself. They have
• 37:21
Speaker 8: the ability to set premiums and do things that they
• 37:24
Speaker 8: could do, and so you know numbers. I haven't been
• 37:29
Speaker 8: talking to legislators. I'm not sure they've bought in they'd
• 37:32
Speaker 8: like the fraud piece. He wants to talk about that.
• 37:35
Speaker 8: I think there's you know that seems to have some legs.
• 37:37
Speaker 3: But is there Let me let me jump in here
• 37:39
Speaker 3: one second time. Is there substantial fraud in pie in
• 37:43
  Speaker 3: your opinion?
• 37:44
Speaker 8: No, I think what you have is you have to
• 37:47
Speaker 8: go in and do audits. You have to review. Sure, yeah,
• 37:49
Speaker 8: sometimes don't understand what the coverage guidelines are sometimes pa
• 37:54
Speaker 8: and when I was there, so I'm not throwing stones
• 37:56
Speaker 8: with them. It's a very complicated situation. So if you
• 37:59
Speaker 8: don't explain to people and you have to audit and
• 38:02
Speaker 8: you have to talk about it, and you have to
• 38:03
Speaker 8: review it and talk about it, if you pass in
• 38:06
Speaker 8: a fraud bill today, you're not going to save any money,
• 38:08
Speaker 8: but you're gonna have to go do audits. Why not
• 38:10
Speaker 8: go ahead and start the audits now? Why wait for
• 38:12
Speaker 8: the passage of a fraud bill. There are things that
• 38:16
Speaker 8: you can do to try and bring that down on
• 38:19
Speaker 8: the employee spouse thing probably makes some sense. But you know,
• 38:24
Speaker 8: some of those folks they may be looking to go
• 38:25
Speaker 8: to the exchange, and now the exchange itself, maybe the
• 38:28
Speaker 8: health Exchange could shut down, and if Congress doesn't renew
• 38:31
Speaker 8: the enhanced tax credits. So there's just there are a
• 38:34
Speaker 8: lot of moving parts here, and you know, the legislative
• 38:37
Speaker 8: session starts in January, and so a number of them
• 38:40
Speaker 8: are just let's just wait till we get into a
• 38:41
  Speaker 8: regular session.
• 38:43
Speaker 3: Talking again with Tom Sussman about PEIA the day Island
• 38:46
Speaker 3: showing five eighty line brought to you part by Morgan
• 38:48
Speaker 3: to Morgan with more than twenty billion dollars recovered. They
• 38:50
Speaker 3: believe that when you're injured, you deserve more. Morgan to Morgan,
• 38:52
Speaker 3: America's largest injury law firm. Let me read a text
• 38:55
Speaker 3: here for you, Tom.
• 38:55
Speaker 2: This is for you.
• 38:56
Speaker 3: It says PIA members are seeing changes now for clinical facilities.
• 39:01
Speaker 3: This now generally doubles the copaid. This is increasing our cost.
• 39:06
Speaker 8: It wouldn't surprise me. They have the power to manage
• 39:09
Speaker 8: the plan. And depending on where you go, I'm sure
• 39:13
Speaker 8: they're negotiating different benefits. So I mean, I think PA
• 39:18
Speaker 8: can manage the plan from my time, unless it's been
• 39:22
Speaker 8: significantly reduced. And then talking with Center President Craig Blair,
• 39:27
Speaker 8: I think they expanded the ability of PA to manage
• 39:30
Speaker 8: its plan to do the things that they needed to do.
• 39:34
Speaker 8: One of the things they're talking about is I think
• 39:36
Speaker 8: something on specialty drugs, which are those real high end drugs,
• 39:40
Speaker 8: they want to ask for permission to do negotiation. And
• 39:43
Speaker 8: unless the code has significantly changed, they had the power
• 39:47
Speaker 8: to negotiate that for years, and so I'm not sure
• 39:51
Speaker 8: that a special sessions warranted on some of these things.
• 39:57
Speaker 8: I think the plane itself can do it.
• 39:59
Speaker 3: Some of the legislators, both Republican and Democrat, that I
• 40:02
Speaker 3: have talked to on the air and in private conversations
• 40:05
Speaker 3: and you kind of alluded to this TOIME, have expressed
• 40:08
Speaker 3: real concern here that they can sell this to their constituents.
• 40:13
Speaker 3: And again this is both Republicans and Democrats. And let's
• 40:16
Speaker 3: face the time. Next year, twenty twenty six is an
• 40:19
Speaker 3: election year for the House members. Some Senate seats will
• 40:21
Speaker 3: be available next year as well. It could be a
• 40:25
Speaker 3: hard seal and could be a full stop, you know,
• 40:30
Speaker 3: on some of the some of these legislators. Would you
• 40:33
  Speaker 3: gree with that?
• 40:34
Speaker 8: Yeah? Absolutely, And I'm working on a story that we're
• 40:37
Speaker 8: going to run probably Friday on WMV the station I
• 40:40
Speaker 8: work with, a radio station, and Craig Blair provided me
• 40:43
Speaker 8: this long list of things that have happened to manage
• 40:47
Speaker 8: PI since like twenty fourteen, and I think there's a
• 40:51
Speaker 8: feeling by some that, look, we've done it. We've given
• 40:53
Speaker 8: PA the tools they need to manage the plan, and
• 40:58
Speaker 8: really it's not up to the legislature to PEI and
• 41:00
  Speaker 8: the administration.
• 41:02
Speaker 3: Tex says Dave. I've always heard the more people in
• 41:04
Speaker 3: insurance pool, the less the cost. Ask your guests, why
• 41:07
Speaker 3: can't everyone in the state get pe I A it
• 41:10
Speaker 3: would be cheaper for everyone.
• 41:12
Speaker 8: Well, PA is an employee benefit plan, and as such,
• 41:17
Speaker 8: it's designed to ensure the people who work for the
• 41:20
Speaker 8: State of West Virginia and their family teachers and their
• 41:23
Speaker 8: family higher education. It's not really a private plan that
• 41:27
Speaker 8: you would open up now. When Governor Wives was there,
• 41:30
Speaker 8: we did work with Blue Cross Blue Shield for a
• 41:32
Speaker 8: period of time before they had the exchange, and we
• 41:36
Speaker 8: were able to put together a small business plan, but
• 41:39
Speaker 8: that wasn't using PI risk pools. But PI is a
• 41:44
Speaker 8: It's an employee benefit, and people lose sight of that.
• 41:46
Speaker 8: It is not a welfare plan. It's not an intimate plan.
• 41:51
  Speaker 8: It's a plan. It's part of people's stalary who work
• 41:53
Speaker 8: for the state, or work for higher education or school
• 41:55
Speaker 8: teachers and or service personnel to encourage them as part
• 42:01
Speaker 8: of their salary packete. All right, Tom, and employee benefit.
• 42:03
Speaker 3: Tom, I got to jump in here and go to
• 42:05
Speaker 3: the break, but I do want to give you about
• 42:07
Speaker 3: thirty seconds or so, if you can do it in
• 42:09
Speaker 3: that amount of time. Talk about Tim Armstead, who we
• 42:12
Speaker 3: lost a couple of days ago at the age of sixty.
• 42:14
Speaker 3: We've had tributes coming in right and left. You knew
• 42:15
Speaker 3: Tim Armstead. Well, I'll let you let you close us
• 42:18
Speaker 3: out with your thoughts on the late Tim Armstead.
• 42:21
Speaker 8: There was not a bigger gentleman than Tim Armstead. He
• 42:26
Speaker 8: and I may not have agreed politically, he was always
• 42:29
Speaker 8: a gentleman. He always said hi, He always had a
• 42:32
Speaker 8: smile on his face. I think the politicians today could
• 42:35
Speaker 8: learn from Tim Armstead on how this country should.
• 42:38
Speaker 3: Behave all right, good way to leave it. Get back
• 42:41
Speaker 3: in there and listen to what Senator Justice had to
• 42:43
Speaker 3: say and figure out where baby dog is and tell
• 42:46
Speaker 3: the Senator. I said, hello, I will do that all right, sir.
• 42:49

Speaker 3: WWKTV thirteen this morning, and so I know he had
• 45:59
Speaker 3: a little issue with getting him on the water with
• 46:02
Speaker 3: transmission issues. I was following along. He actually had to
• 46:05
Speaker 3: drive to New Orleans to pick up a transmission, and
• 46:07
Speaker 3: picking up a transmission for a stern we are probably
• 46:09
Speaker 3: not the easiest thing in the world to do, so

Speaker 3: we are. Brian is efforting. Ryan is efforting to get

• 48:18
Speaker 3: knock out a couple of texts here because it seems
• 48:20
Speaker 3: like I don't always get to all the text and
• 48:22
Speaker 3: we will do our best to get to some of
• 48:24
Speaker 3: those Texas. David ten Am, you should have to spring
• 48:29
Speaker 3: Hill Pastry and get your guests some hot dogs to try.
• 48:31
Speaker 3: Everyone talks about Pepperoni rolls and Tudors biscuits, but seem
• 48:34
Speaker 3: to forget the greatest sugar rush in the world. That
• 48:37
Speaker 3: was a reference I was talking to author A Tara Roberts,
• 48:40
Speaker 3: who was on the show and is in Charleston and
• 48:41
Speaker 3: in West Virginia for her first time ever. And I
• 48:44
Speaker 3: you know, I always point people to the to the
• 48:46
Speaker 3: food scene, and you know, they got to go to tutors,
• 48:49
Speaker 3: of course, and there's tutors everywhere. But uh yeah, well
• 48:51
Speaker 3: I should have mentioned spring Hill Pastry as well. So
• 48:56
Speaker 3: I will try to get a hold of them and
• 48:57
Speaker 3: tell them that they need to go there. Let me
• 49:02
Speaker 3: see here, tex says OMG Shelley Capito on talk line.
• 49:08
Speaker 3: I can't wait to hear her say a bunch of
• 49:10
Speaker 3: words that mean absolutely nothing. She's going to tell us
• 49:13
Speaker 3: how great everything is and how hard she's working, and
• 49:15
Speaker 3: how she's best buds with Trump. We are lucky to
• 49:17
Speaker 3: have her, bless her, We were lucky to have her blessed,
• 49:21
Speaker 3: blessed with her representation. Truly a gift from Jesus, says
• 49:24
Speaker 3: a Texter Well, a spokesperson for Jesus, cannot be reached
• 49:27
Speaker 3: for comedy. As I said, talk line is coming up
• 49:30
Speaker 3: at ten oh six. I don't think we're going to
• 49:32
Speaker 3: be able to get Brian Hughes to They will try
• 49:34
Speaker 3: again for a future future appearance from mister Hughes. I
• 49:37
Speaker 3: will say this to close the show, and I hate
• 49:40
Speaker 3: to start something serious here at the close of the show,
• 49:43
Speaker 3: and then you know, we go to Brian Hughes. So uh,
• 49:46
Speaker 3: not that Brian Hughes is not serious. He's a serious
• 49:48
Speaker 3: weather man, he is, but he does have a lot
• 49:51
Speaker 3: of fun. That's why he and I are such good friends.
• 49:53
Speaker 3: This this you know, tragic shooting that happened yesterday in Minnesota.
• 50:02
Speaker 3: I don't know what the answer is because people say,
• 50:05
Speaker 3: you know, thoughts and prayers.
• 50:07
  Speaker 8: And so on.
• 50:07
Speaker 3: Well, whatever we're doing is not working. I'll tell you
• 50:11
Speaker 3: what's not helpful though. What's not helpful is when we
• 50:15
Speaker 3: have these stories of these school shootings, and of course
• 50:19
Speaker 3: this was an incident in a Catholic facility where students
• 50:22
Speaker 3: were literally praying, and this person barricaded the doors and
• 50:28
Speaker 3: killed these people, injured others as well. What's not helping
• 50:32
Speaker 3: the situation is when we rush in and try to
• 50:36
Speaker 3: politicize it. And that's what we do in our society
• 50:40
Speaker 3: right now, because we emerge ourselves in politics nearly twenty
• 50:44
Speaker 3: four to seven. I mean, I do this show which
• 50:48
Speaker 3: is not always political, there's politics involved, but also talk
• 50:51
Speaker 3: about community events, and then I'm on Metro News Midday,
• 50:53
Speaker 3: which is really more of a news show, but we
• 50:55
Speaker 3: do delve into politics and interview all the newsmakers and
• 50:58
Speaker 3: politicos and so on and so forth. But there's people
• 51:02
Speaker 3: I do this four hours a day. I knew people
• 51:04
Speaker 3: that do nothing. The Brad mcailhanneys and Steven Allen adams
• 51:07
Speaker 3: is of the world that pretty much cover politics all
• 51:09
Speaker 3: the time. They don't emerge themselves in a twenty four
• 51:12
Speaker 3: to seven. And that's where we are right now. As
• 51:16
Speaker 3: soon as there is a tragedy like this, everybody goes
• 51:20
Speaker 3: to their trusted news source, whatever that is. And I
• 51:24
Speaker 3: saw it last night. I was reading some information online.
• 51:26
Speaker 3: There's a very good friend of mine and he and
• 51:30
Speaker 3: I differ greatly politically, but he's a great, great guy,
• 51:33
Speaker 3: a very good friend of mine, and I saw something.
• 51:36
Speaker 3: I'm not blaming him, but I saw something that was
• 51:38
Speaker 3: put on his page by somebody about the shooter. Well,
• 51:41
Speaker 3: it turns out that this shooter was a trans person.
• 51:46
Speaker 3: But apparently, and I'm going to use the psychological term here,
• 51:51
Speaker 3: was completely batcrap crazy. That's the official psychological term. This
• 51:56
Speaker 3: was a person who apparently had it in for Donald Trump,
• 52:02
Speaker 3: who apparently had it in for Jewish people. Obviously, had
• 52:06
Speaker 3: it in for Catholics and may Or may not have been.
• 52:09
Speaker 3: This one's up for debate right now. They're trying to
• 52:11
Speaker 3: get to details may Or may not have been dying
• 52:14
Speaker 3: with cancer. So I would just say this, just be
• 52:17
Speaker 3: careful when we have these events like this, that we
• 52:20
Speaker 3: don't rush to go aha. You know a Trump supporter aha,
• 52:24
Speaker 3: a liberal aha, trans aha, very religious whatever. It's a
• 52:29
Speaker 3: tragedy and the best advice I can have is I
• 52:34
Speaker 3: don't really have any advice other than to stop trying
• 52:37
Speaker 3: to get a win when we have situations like this.
• 52:40
Speaker 3: All Right, gotta go. I'll be back with Metro News
• 52:42
Speaker 3: midday with thirteen News in that live anchor Amanda Baron
• 52:45
Speaker 3: and me later today. Back on this show tomorrow, Ryan Nicholson,
• 52:48
Speaker 3: our producer, thank you so much. I'll see you later.
