- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hello, it's Megan with the Glimpse Method Podcast.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hope everybody is having a good week.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I have been either sick or allergies.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it is, but I've been dealing with an itchy throat, kind of sore, and migraines every day.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Blah.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: But today I got up and I was doing my home girl walk.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: And um, if you don't know what that is, you can check the link below.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: I um have a 28-day wake challenge um of guided walks that are really motivating.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And as I was walking, I um today we started the inspiration pillar in the walks, and I'm on walk nine, and I just um, you know, I was talking about inspiration and when we were kids and like what we like to do and um what inspired us, and I just like sort of started getting mad.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: And I was getting mad at myself because um, so I haven't drank alcohol in four years, and I am just realizing that for a lot of my life and a lot of my daughter's young life, I was enamored with alcohol, and it just pissed me off.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: I'm just pissed.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't be because um I should be happy that you know I stopped, and things are exciting now, and I'm you know, really um on this spirituality journey, and um I've started my own breath work business, and um I'm working at the hospital.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I just took a new position on weekends and I love it, although it is very, very exhausting because I work two 12-hour shifts, and then every other Monday I work an eight-hour shift, and um the ER on the weekend is pretty crazy, and the hours that I work, either 9 to 9 or 10 to 10, are pretty much the busiest um block.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: So I'm just sort of trying to um balance that, but other than that, you know, I mostly have the week to work on glimpses and um doing breath work and being with the dogs and helping my daughter, and um, so that's all great, but I was remembering how much I loved like taking care of kids and just doing things outside, and you know, in my 20s, I was able to um kind of balance everything.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: I worked full-time, I actually went through graduate school and I had a part-time job, and I was running, I was doing half marathons, I did a triathlon, um, you know, but that was like mid-20s to early 30s, and then I had my daughter, and after having her, I fell into that mommy wine culture so deep, and I'm just mad.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So I might just have to be mad a little bit at myself for allowing alcohol to um seduce me, for lack of a better word.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, I I had a lot of friends and we did a lot of social things, and I should mention I was a single mom.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Um, and um I realized I was pregnant after I had broken off a relationship that was with someone that I did not know that well, and I had come to find out a lot of pretty scary things about that individual, and so I actually went into a little bit of fear for the first um well while I was pregnant, number one, and then for the first couple years of our life, um I was fearful of running into him or you know, whatever.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Um, and I will say he never hurt me or put his hands on me, but he he had done that to others.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Um and so it was pretty stressful living um, you know, as a single mom.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: I lived with my parents until my daughter was about eight months, and then I moved back into my loft downtown Minneapolis, and I left my corporate job because they were horrible to me.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Um, my my boss and his boss, um, ever since I got pregnant, and actually ever since I took this certain position, it was just a really dysfunctional situation, and so I had um hired an attorney and I left, and I had, you know, some time where I was still getting full-time pay, and I started my own job or my own business walking dogs, and um I continued to be in the throes of alcohol, and I just have so much regret and just um anger with myself at um you know wasting those times.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Now I never like drove with my child drunk.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: I would, you know, um, she would be staying with my parents or something something, you know, but I was hung over a lot.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: I was not the best mom I could have been for her, and she had a lot of challenges, um, and you know, more diagnosis diagnoses.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Ugh, I can't say that word.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: She has many diagnoses, and more are coming out now as she um gets into early adulthood and and we're still struggling.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Um, I feel like so many times I make plans and you know, we make plans for a trip, or we make plans um to do something, and I take off work, and then it it all comes crashing down because we have to figure out, you know, the next the next step in her journey of healing, and and we're kind of at that point again now.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: She um has a birthday coming up and she's decided, and um, me and her dad, um, I should mention Nate, my husband, we grew up together, we met in kindergarten, and um then we reconnected um when my daughter was about well, we reconnected on Facebook really just throughout uh my daughter's really young years, and then he moved back to the area and we met up and um our first date, we were married like less than a year after that, and he adopted her, and he's been wonderful, and it's been stressful, but and we both kind of had an issue with alcohol dealing with the stress of parenting and um just wanting to escape, and I am just feeling a little bit frustrated with myself about that.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Um, I probably need to do some work, um, just you know, forgiving myself.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: I did the best I could with what I had, and um I'm on the other side now, and I'm able to be present and um, you know, be there for her, be there for my husband and all of our pets, which now we have five.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: And excuse me, and I feel like last week like every single one of them had an issue, and I was like, maybe this is the universe telling us that we bit off more than we can chew.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: But honestly, our pets are they bring us all so much joy, and um, it's good for our daughter too.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: She's got her own cat now, and she's been taking really good care of them.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: So um I'm just like digressing here.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Um, and my point is that um number one, if you're struggling with something that you know is an unhealthy habit, I encourage you to, you know, really look at that.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Um, my husband and I do have a podcast.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: We haven't, um we're gonna start that back up probably after the holidays, but um, it's called The Dry Life, where we talk about um, I think we have about 30 episodes on there now, but we talk about our journey to sobriety and um I was also thinking as I was doing this homegirl walk, like I really wanted to have more kids, you know, I wanted like four kids.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: And when Nate and I got married, we I was we were both 40, so um we tried a little, but not too too much, and um we had certain uh things happen.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: It was like I had such an unreliable um cycle, so it was really hard to know when the good time was, and then once yeah, anyway, that's like a lot of details, but um, and now I'm 52 and I'm like, you know what, I could have had a baby at 45, like I'm still having my period at 52, but um it's been a lot with um our daughter, and in many ways, you know, it's good that we have the time to just focus on her, but I also think that it would have been helpful for her to have um a sibling to help kind of care for and to, you know, just so she doesn't have that like only child syndrome.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Um, she does have half siblings, which hopefully um, you know, they've all met, but they're young.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Um, so hopefully in the future she'll have, you know, some sort of um relationship with them.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And um yeah, so I just wanted to come on here and just say, you know, it's okay to have regrets, but try not to focus too much on them, you know, let yourself feel that and then try to find a way to move through it.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna do a breath work um on letting go and surrendering today.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I've got some pre-recorded on my school community that I do.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Um, and I'm also thinking of doing uh evening breath work maybe once a week.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Um if you'd be interested in doing that, um shoot me a message.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: I also do you know one-on-one and group sessions.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm open to doing corporate um sessions and breath work is just such a it's been such a gift to me, and I want to give it to other people.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Um and I'm actually working on a little breathwork 101 mini course um that you can purchase um, not very much money.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Um, and it just kind of explains breath work, and then it will um, you know, let you know what to do to have a successful session, like how to get your area ready and you ready, and then um there will be um probably three different sessions of varying lengths that are um just audio, so you can just play them on your phone um uh when you have time to be um alone and and uh or you could do it with a friend, but um because sometimes uh when you do group breath work, it's it's like you have your own experience, but then you also feel the energy of the group, which is kind of nice.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: So um either way, I just want to make it more accessible to people, and I and I feel like a lot of people don't know really what it is because when I say, Oh, I'm training to be a breath work facilitator, they're like, What's that?
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Basically, it's just conscious breathing, and there's different breath patterns that we learned in our certification, and we learned ways to lead, and um the the kind of breath work that I learned is trauma um informed.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: So we don't do anything real crazy, we um you know don't push you, we we um facilitate and we monitor and we support and um it's all up to you, to the individual, and how they want to push themselves.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: If they do, great.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: If not, you know, an easy session, you know, is there.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Um, so anyway, I haven't been on in a while just because there's been a lot going on and I just wanted to pop on with my thought for the day and also just to kind of work it out within myself.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Um, and I sort of have a schedule, a loose schedule figured out um for the week's uh moving forward because I've just kind of been getting used to this new job and and being sick.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: So a lot of moving parts, but I hope that you are well.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: I if you are curious about anything that I've talked about on this podcast, please send me a note.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: I would love to hear from you, and I would love to support you in any way I can to um a better, more elevated human experience.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Bye.
