Transcript
- 0:20Speaker 1: What's going on everyone?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Emily Abadi here, you're listening to five Minute Friday from Hurdle.
- 0:27Speaker 2: This week, I had a project that I was working
- 0:30Speaker 2: on that was the monster.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Let me break down what the monster is.
- 0:35Speaker 2: It is the thing that, for no single individual, particular
- 0:41Speaker 2: reason at all, oftentimes we arbitrarily make something the thing
- 0:48Speaker 2: that we want nothing to do with examples of things
- 0:52Speaker 2: that can become the monster, perhaps you need to clean
- 0:56Speaker 2: out your bedroom closet, or you have a proposal that
- 1:01Speaker 2: you are diligently working on for your job. Or perhaps
- 1:07Speaker 2: you have an email that's been lingering in your inbox
- 1:10Speaker 2: for three months and you know you want to respond.
- 1:12Speaker 1: To it, but you just haven't made the time.
- 1:15Speaker 2: These are all things that you may unintentionally or intentionally
- 1:21Speaker 2: make the monster. And what we realize is oftentimes the
- 1:26Speaker 2: thing that we do not want to do lingers over
- 1:30Speaker 2: us and really gets in the way of so many
- 1:35Speaker 2: other things, especially your vibe and your energy. So I
- 1:40Speaker 2: had a project this week that I made the monster.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And whereas I know the opportunity that comes with tackling
- 1:47Speaker 2: the monster head on and getting it out of your face,
- 1:51Speaker 2: I procrastinated and waited and waited until I wasn't capable
- 1:57Speaker 2: of waiting anymore, until a deadline was up on me.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I am on the other side of the monster. I
- 2:03Speaker 2: have successfully made it, and I'm here to tell you
- 2:07Speaker 2: that it feels better once you just handle it the monster.
- 2:11Speaker 2: For me, I made it that way because I knew
- 2:15Speaker 2: that it was going to make me confront things that
- 2:17Speaker 2: I was scared to see. And I don't mean to
- 2:20Speaker 2: be necessarily vague with this. I just don't think the
- 2:25Speaker 2: details specifically are really relevant to the point I want
- 2:29Speaker 2: to make. The monster, although scary, brought me clarity, and
- 2:36Speaker 2: clarity is something you will never be worse for having.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Let me provide you with an example.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I my last relationship was a long time ago, and
- 2:47Speaker 2: when I went through that breakup, I was devastated, but
- 2:54Speaker 2: knowing what was going on, having clarity enabled me to
- 2:59Speaker 2: eventu move forward and I got to make the decision
- 3:04Speaker 2: of what I wanted to do next. Yes, there were
- 3:07Speaker 2: all of these feelings and some sadness and a whole
- 3:11Speaker 2: lot of what the hell is going on in my
- 3:13Speaker 2: life questions, but I had clarity on the situation.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I knew what I needed to know.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Think of this in relation to going after a job
- 3:24Speaker 2: that you're really excited about, maybe your four interviews in
- 3:29Speaker 2: on a lengthy application process and you finally find out
- 3:35Speaker 2: that they're going with another candidate. Yes, it's sad, Yes,
- 3:40Speaker 2: I'm sure it's a bummer. But with that clarity, now
- 3:44Speaker 2: you can move on. With that clarity, I'd argue, there's
- 3:48Speaker 2: a weight lifted off your shoulders. Clarity is always a
- 3:52Speaker 2: good thing, even though getting it may be difficult. And
- 3:57Speaker 2: that is a theme that I'm really doating with right now.
- 4:01Speaker 2: That is a sentiment that I am bringing with me
- 4:04Speaker 2: into the weekend. My question for you this week my
- 4:08Speaker 2: listener prompt what is one thing that you got clarity
- 4:11Speaker 2: on lately and what's your next step? What is one
- 4:15Speaker 2: thing that you got clarity on lately and what is
- 4:20Speaker 2: your next step?
- 4:22Speaker 1: And now a listener question. Hi Emily, my name is Mindy.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I'm so stoked to hear that you will be at
- 4:29Speaker 2: the every Woman's Marathon in Savannah. I will be there
- 4:33Speaker 2: as well. My question for you is what's your post
- 4:36Speaker 2: race routine. I've mixed it up in the past where
- 4:38Speaker 2: I might eye up a massage table if it's available,
- 4:41Speaker 2: thinking why not, or maybe head for the food or
- 4:44Speaker 2: recap the race and chat with my family and friends.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Thanks so much, Mindy, I am so stoked to be
- 4:51Speaker 2: at every Woman's Marathon, and actually in a couple weeks
- 4:54Speaker 2: I have a special episode coming up whether you may
- 4:57Speaker 2: be doing that race or have something else on the
- 4:59Speaker 2: horizon in answering all the questions that you need to
- 5:03Speaker 2: know before you toe the starting line.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But I digress.
- 5:07Speaker 2: My post race routine is exactly what you said at
- 5:11Speaker 2: the end there.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It's heading to.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Grab food with family with friends, usually a burger and
- 5:17Speaker 2: a beer and some French fries and really just decompressing
- 5:20Speaker 2: in that way. I love a massage table, but for me,
- 5:24Speaker 2: same day massage can be a little tricky. I would
- 5:27Speaker 2: much rather opt for a compression boot situation and then
- 5:31Speaker 2: I schedule a massage about five days later, maybe four
- 5:35Speaker 2: days later, depending on how my body is feeling. That way,
- 5:40Speaker 2: I can really enjoy it a bit more than I
- 5:43Speaker 2: might be able to with those immediate post race legs.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Of course, you know your body, you have a feeling
- 5:51Speaker 2: for what might feel right. But I believe that after
- 5:55Speaker 2: an effort like that, regardless of your time or what happened,
- 5:59Speaker 2: it is something to celebrate your effort is something to celebrate,
- 6:04Speaker 2: so relish in that. Make sure you're following along with
- 6:07Speaker 2: Hurdle both on Instagram and over on TikTok. We're getting
- 6:12Speaker 2: active over there. I want you to be in the mix,
- 6:15Speaker 2: so at Hurdle podcast and I'm over at Emily a
- 6:19Speaker 2: Body of course. To have your listener question answered on
- 6:22Speaker 2: an upcoming episode, make sure to send an email over
- 6:26Speaker 2: to hello at Hurdle dot us and title that subject
- 6:30Speaker 2: line listener question another Hurdle Conquered.
