- 0:00[SPEAKER_05]: happy Friday and welcome live to the big play Cleveland shows as Jack O'Rourke alongside Ryan Tyler and Chris reflog with Neal guys.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_05]: We got an excellent show for you today starting out 12 to 12 30.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_05]: We got Garrett Gilbert on talking about some Cleveland Browns quarterbacks and some former ones as well at 12 30 Jason lock and for is going to join us to break down his reports coming out yesterday about to show on Watson if the guy even wants to be on the field in the first place and then last but of course not least, K. Crack is joining at one o'clock to break down guards and A's as we're now.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, right.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_05]: I think
- 0:29[SPEAKER_05]: We're just straight tied right after the White Sox one last night right down the middle of the White Sox You know what brother I'm ready to talk to football.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_05]: Let's do it Garrett.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_05]: How are you doing today?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_08]: Oh, we got on mute.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_05]: You you may be on mute.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you might sound new myself.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_05]: Not hot start.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_05]: How we doing boys doing great excited talk about some ball Chris.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_05]: How are you doing?
- 0:48[SPEAKER_06]: I'm doing great over here just ready to talk some football week to now and the guardians kind of getting hot here nine games left, but let's start off with football jack.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_05]: Let's do it.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_05]: So Garrett wanted to ask you a little bit about the Brown's performance last weekend before we turn and look to their trip down to Tampa Bay this weekend.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_05]: When you have such a
- 1:11[SPEAKER_05]: day like the Sean Watson did where it ends up liquid with the stats.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, it was a day.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_05]: The stats end up looking decent at the end.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_05]: You're down.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_05]: What was a 34 to three and there's a 50 yard touchdown pass with a minute left brings the Sean up over 200 yards with a touchdown to go with his interception earlier in the game.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_05]: Garret obviously it's tough.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_05]: It's an 11 man offense and the offense is just a part of three facets of the game So it's tough to put any particular thing on one player or coach, but despite how the stats may have looked for Deshawn and not terrible really like average kind of how would you assess how he played in his opener on Sunday?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so just watching, obviously, you know, I'm tuned into Red Zone every Sunday.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: So a lot of what I saw was basically just a disaster place because there weren't too many highlight plays for the rounds, for our guy, for our guy Scott to show on early afternoon on Sunday.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_02]: I will say this, just looking back at the stats, you know, I'm, I guess I'm getting into some of these advanced metrics of late.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: I've never really been a data guy, but just kind of looking at them.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: The Browns were like minus 11 EPA per play and like nine of those points came from the sex.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: So those were the real disasters putting themselves behind the chains and not giving themselves a chance.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously the turnovers are bad and you get the late garbage time touched out and it makes this makes the you know the traditional stats look a little better.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was interesting after the game.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to call them excuses necessarily, but some of the maybe reasons for the poor start.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was everybody's first game.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_02]: And so, just talking about guys, just, you know, Deshawn specifically, still learn in the plays, and there were some operational issues.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_02]: And I know, Munkin said that he, you know, maybe didn't expect those.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I think last time we were on, I, you know, you guys asked about Chador and the operational stuff, and if that was maybe the difference maker, well, if it was the difference maker, then, you know,
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: How, how, what's the excuse for those things happening with the guy you chose it going into week one and and again, it is a young offense.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: It is new offense, but like
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, again, I think those are poor excuses for a team that should have been ready to play and maybe not going to win that game, but at least provide some sort of competitive effort.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_08]: Garrett, I want to talk about the excuses.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_08]: You said you wouldn't call them.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_08]: I'll call them excuses because you're talking about a guy who's been in the league for about a decade now.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_08]: Let's see, strapped it, maybe almost a decade.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_08]: But yeah, what it means the same.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_08]: And why I wanted sure Sanders to start was because
- 3:32[SPEAKER_08]: This wasn't just a move over starting some savvy vet.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_08]: Like, if we still had a Joe Flacco, I don't know you name it.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_08]: We just watched Carson Wentzball out.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_08]: If Carson Wentz was there, I'd be like, okay, a savvy vet, I understand it.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_08]: But we're talking about a quarterback who hasn't played good football in six years and they continue to run him out.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_08]: Now, you were former quarterback yourself.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_08]: You certainly know about mechanics more than I do, but his mechanics just looked broken.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_08]: Throwing on the run did not look good at all in the past, reflected it.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_08]: From what you saw to Sean Watson is he cooked
- 4:00[SPEAKER_08]: Do you have any chance of redemption that Sean Watson can play Sunday and look decent against a good defense in Tampa Bay?
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: I want to give you guys hope.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_02]: But the truth of the matter is, as it has been a long time since we've seen like any semblance of good football from the guy.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously the talent is there.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: He has shown in the past that he can play, but
- 4:21[SPEAKER_02]: It looks like he is so uncomfortable out there on the field that, you know, he's he's the first play the game.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was a first play the game.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: He dropped back his play action pass quickly dumped it down to the tight end and you know, you're often rolling.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, looks like a great first drive to start out and then he throws a not great interception trying to make a hero throw and then I think throws in plays like that.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's reflected in the sacks.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think you start to question maybe what you're seeing a little bit and then you hold on to the ball a little bit longer.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously one of his greatest talents was his ability to improvise and use to them.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody remembers his time there.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: In fact, I have the famous wildcard winning plate throw that he made.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: There was a free blitz or off the edge.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: He had to shine right in the back or right in the chest and to shine spun out of it made a great throw in the Texans.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember who they beat, but I remember something.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: That point of the point of the matter was he was a great improviser and it looks like that is lost.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I think whether it's a confidence issue, that's no way to play quarterback.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_02]: You cannot be out there.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_02]: I'll reference my time in Cleveland.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: Ryan Lennley was our quarterback coach.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: And he and I,
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: He was a young guy.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: He was sort of, he was sort of in the same boat as me as far as like, you know, you're a late round draft pick or an undrafted guy, and I vividly remember him telling me.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, hey, listen, Baker could go out there and throw 100 interceptions tomorrow at practice, and he's going to be our star.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: No matter what.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_02]: and you have to be able to play the quarterback position with that freedom and that confidence maybe even a little bit of cockiness in order to be successful and if you are constantly questioning number one what you're seeing in the pocket and number two what's going to happen when you make a mistake.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_02]: then you can't play the game to the best of your ability.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: And I see a lot of that in the shot.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's why the sacks are happening.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: He's back there and he's not sure what he's seeing.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: And then all of a sudden, the play breaks down.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: We're talking about milliseconds.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_02]: Drop them back, get in the ball out to a check down as a good play.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're not 100% sure about what you're seeing to pull the trigger, that things are going to happen.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_06]: Now, one of the things that came up this week, PFF, in that game, there were five sacks and they went and evaluated and said, all of those were on the quarterback.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_06]: None of those were on the line.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_06]: Where do you come out on that one is to Sean completely creating the sacks situation for himself or do we have some onus on the line here?
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to, I will always, always, always take what PFF says with a grain of salt.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a valuable tool, but I think you have to take it with the grain of salt because you have, they have no clue what the, what, what the offensive lines protection scheme was.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: They have no clue if somebody ran the wrong route.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: They're just guessing and throwing some data on, on, on, on a, you know, into an Excel sheet.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_02]: Now, that being said,
- 7:13[SPEAKER_02]: I do believe that quarterback sex are more of a quarterback stat than probably many people fought for a long time.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think that sort of starting to come to fruition, or sorry, starting to come to light in terms of how people view them, Tom Brady was always phenomenal and not getting sat and it's not like he had the best offensive line in the world.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_02]: He just knew where to go with the ball to save himself from getting sat and creating those negative plays.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_02]: And I think again, this goes back to,
- 7:37[SPEAKER_02]: is Deshawn, you know, is Deshawn cooked to use y'all's terminology there, you know, it's I mean it is it's he is he is he truly struggling to see what's out in front of him and the fact of the matter is you can't play the game again you can't play the game a quarterback.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: without that freedom, but you can't play the game of football, especially quarterback.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: If you're eyes, if you're dropping back and you're eyes immediately, go down to what's going on in front of you.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: You have no chance, and when all of those defensive linemen are as fast as you are, and you can't improvise the way you used to, you have to be able to use your arm as a weapon, and say you have to be able to see down the field, and I just don't know that he's trust in what he's saying, or if he's even seen it.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_08]: Garrett, the interception that's a shot had on the first drive of the game, he quite literally made that same interception every single arc sees me once a week in practice, like the same exact interception.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_08]: There's something to it he just can't see the field anymore.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_08]: Is that what you're seeing or is that something that's fixable?
- 8:32[SPEAKER_08]: But we're talking about a 10-year event, right?
- 8:34[SPEAKER_08]: Like we're not talking about Shidorah Sanders.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_08]: We're talking about a damn near decade vet that can't see the field right now.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_08]: It reminds me of when Sam Donald said he's seeing ghosts.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_08]: Like if you remember that.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_08]: Yeah.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_08]: It's to Sean just so mentally messed up that that is translating to what we're seeing on the field.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_08]: Cause I just refused to believe that a quarterback that was as good as he was at once time can all of a sudden not be able to read in NFL defense.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think that's certainly part of it.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you what I saw on that interception.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: And you guys probably have a better feel for it in terms of what had been going on in practice.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: What I saw in that interception is a guy trying to make a play and trying to make a throw that he probably had no business playing.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_02]: We were talking before we came on air about SMU's quarterback and how he's trying to win the game.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: On every single snap to me that's what it looked like the show was doing like if he didn't see that guy in front of whoever was running that cross or out That's that's obviously a huge problem to me.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: It was like I see him and I'm gonna make the throw over him anyway And again, let's make sure we give the Jaguar credit.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_02]: That was a good play by the lineback or the ball should not have been thrown But it was a good play by the linebacker I saw a guy trying to make a play that he shouldn't have made rather than somebody who didn't who absolutely did not see you know What was going on in front of them?
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: Um, if he's not seeing it and if you guys are, you know, if you guys are telling me that's a pattern, then yeah, absolutely that is a problem and I think it goes back to what we're just talking about where he's not he's not processing things like he used to because The fact of the matter is it's probably a little bit of a confident issue and then, you know, it leads to something like that happening and then it leads to him not throwing any more intersections, but him hold on to the ball because he doesn't want to make that huge mistakes, we just takes a second step.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_05]: Garrett, if we could talk a bit more about that mental side, I mean, I think it's very interesting because I've what from what you said earlier about the confidence and like that extra millisecond holding on sweet of your not sure, it's clear as day everyone sees that with what the Sean's doing out there on the field.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_05]: But if you were a fellow quarter bat, I mean, maybe if you're a fellow quarterback, you're not just giving him a, hey, help you do a better man, but like if you're a quarterback coach, if you're on that staff, how do you address his confidence or talk to him?
- 10:33[SPEAKER_05]: Or like, do you think they have to like walk on eggs?
- 10:38[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, here was two or three nice plays to start the game.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_05]: Now I'm going to pull a little Russell West for a play some hero ball and try and replace one to the sidelines here.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_05]: But then after that, you throw that pick, suddenly your confidence flips from not being like a gunsling or an, oh, it's my job.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_05]: I can throw a hundred interceptions stand, it doesn't matter, to O-Crap, I can't turn the ball over again.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to drift back and back and back and not throw it.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he might, he might, the Sean might think he could throw 100 perceptions and still have the job based on some commentary from, from Todd Monk in earlier this week, right?
- 11:12[SPEAKER_02]: I listen, that's a fine line and the true answer to that question is, I don't know, I mean, that's something that as a backup, as a guy who, you know, my whole career, I spent,
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: basically in that position where I was kind of walking on eggshells and felt like, you know, if I do make a mistake or if I have a bad drive here or, you know, if I, if I, if I don't make the exact right play that, I mean, it may be dramatic to say that I might not have a job tomorrow, but I might not win the job that I'm, that I'm, that I'm trying to win and that happens to me at times in in Carolina and even in Cleveland in a,
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: in 2020 the first year that Kevin Stephansky was a coach.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: So the the real answer that question is, I don't know what the answer is.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_02]: I know that I had coaches at times.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_02]: All I can speak to is, you know, guys that I guys that I mentioned like Ryan Lonely, the time for when I had the most success were when the coaches, you know, I
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: kind of cheesy or whatever, but empowered me to be that guy and to, you know, I felt like or at least, you know, give the idea that, you know, I can go out there and, and again, you're not playing, you're not, you know, you're not trying to be careless with the ball, but the idea is that you can go play free and not question what you're seeing.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: Trust what you're seeing and throw the ball and it looks to me like, again, it looks to me like, there is, there is, that, that trust just isn't there, so I think, um,
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think going forward what needs to happen is early in games, if this is the plan, early in games, that, you know, that Todd Munkan needs to find a way to get the shot into a rhythm.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and maybe, again, maybe that play that he called early in the game that ended up being an interception was part of that plan.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, we don't know and, you know, if the guy went rogue and decided he's going to take a shot down the field.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but like, you know, throws to the outside of the field where you're not dealing with as much traffic, um, RPOs, those types of things stuff he's comfortable with, maybe get him on the move a little bit stuff that he's done in the past that he's done a good job with to sort of get him into a rhythm and then that confidence starts to breed you completed a couple passes you start to feel better and then, um,
- 13:10[SPEAKER_02]: you know, and then you can be aggressive in a smart way.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's probably if this, if this is the path that the Browns are going to go down, something that they may need to start doing early in games is just find a way to get them in rhythm so that he is trusting himself and the ball comes out without questioning what he's seeing down the field.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_02]: Or even, you know, the ball's coming out and now you're not, now you're not thinking about, oh, am I going to get hit on this play?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_02]: All of a sudden my eyes are down looking at the line instead of looking at the defense.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_06]: One of the things that struck me there on Sunday was, it seemed to be that the wide receivers were getting open and he did have open shots and he just wasn't taking.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_06]: Now in the opposite end, you could say, hey, we've also got some young wideouts.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_06]: So it'd be fair to say that maybe they're not in the right spot or maybe the routes aren't quite as crisp as you would expect from a veteran.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_06]: How much onus do you put on?
- 13:59[SPEAKER_06]: Maybe him having a younger supporting cast around him as well.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: That's certainly part of it.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's growing pains.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: I've been, you know, on the cowboy show that I go on, there's been a lot of talk, talk about that this week from the defense, you know, there was a whole lot of build up about this new Christian Parker defense that the cowboys were bringing in and, you know, Caleb Downs and
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: barham and all the young guys and I mean you know all the local beat writers were talking about how the defense has replaced 17 of the 26 guys that were on the opening day roster and those 17 guys aren't in the league and this defense is going to be so new and then they go play the giants and they look like the exact same story.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_02]: I mean very similar to what you guys are dealing with you know it's like the defense is like oh here we go again and they're going to waste you know one of the best offenses in the NFL and for the Browns the past few years it's been wasted one of the best defenses in the NFL with an offense that couldn't do much
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: However, again, you know, it is week one, it is the first game and 100% whenever live bullets are flying things change, but it's not like this stuff is new, like they've been doing it since OTAs, this is an offense, this is an offense that that I played in that is not all that complicated.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, again, we talked about the scheme being, you know,
- 15:11[SPEAKER_02]: derived from the air raid, which goes back to how mommy and it's the simplest offense in the history of the world.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I mean, at least that's the way how mommy likes to describe it and Mike leads you to say, and again, it's not the exact same.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_02]: There is some more nuance to an NFL offense versus the traditional air raid, but it is not all that complicated.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: And so if the young guys are struggling with it, that's something that I feel like,
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: We ought to see some improvement this week, not like a few weeks down the road.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: Because again, it is different when live bullets are flying, but now that you've got a game under your belt, let's go back and look at the tape and let's figure out where we made some little errors and those things ought to not happen again.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_08]: Garrett that is a perfect segue for what I'm about to ask you.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_08]: So there's a theory going around in Cleveland that the Cleveland Browns are kind of using these first two road games is kind of just the You know, I don't want to say they're throwing to Sean out as a meat shield, but let the new offensive line gel together then get home and then make that switch to week three Forced or Sanders because Jack will steal this from you.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_08]: You said imagine to Sean Watson playing in front of these home fans after going oh and two it's going to make bottle gate look like a tea party.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_08]: So my question to you is
- 16:13[SPEAKER_08]: Would you still be starting to Sean Watson against Tampa Bay this week and do you see that week three as the perfect spot for Shador to kind of win over this fan base and turn this season around?
- 16:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'll say this.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: If in fact, the stuff that we discussed last time I was on here is true about Shidorah's kind of troubles operating the offense getting in the out of the huddle, if in fact, that stuff is true to me that is still a deal breaker in terms of can you go out on the field?
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: Now, it looks like there were some of the same issues operationally week one, which again,
- 16:45[SPEAKER_02]: You know now you're now it's now it's cash 22 and I think like you guys are saying he'd rather just have the young guy out there making the same mistakes because at least it feels like you got a little hope and you're moving in the right direction.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: I guess you know I love a good conspiracy as much as the next.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_02]: My my only issue with that is if they have any hope of making the playoffs.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: Owen too is really tough to come back from.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you know so so.
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: If, if, if, if, if in fact they were just throw in the sky of the wolves only to make it only to make a change week three, you know, are you forfeiting, are you punting on the first two games of the year and then saying we'll figure it out after that or is this the beginning of, you know, trying to tank for arch or maybe not.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_02]: the kids from Morgan Dante on the same morning, right?
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: Like after the first after he's had a couple couple rough games early.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, that's, I love a good conspiracy.
- 17:41[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe that is the case.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: We'll find out in about three or four days, while we get it.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_05]: I wanted to ask you a little bit more about Shodor in this light of what you just said.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_05]: Because I'm a Shodor guy.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_05]: I've wanted Shodor to start since
- 17:52[SPEAKER_05]: we knew to shine lots and was eligible to play football again, basically, I mean, not that I'm sold on Shador being any answer to the future, but outside of the optics like the money, I do understand that, hey, maybe there's a reason the guy had to go out there first because actually there won't be 80 million reasons, he needs to go out there first this year.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_05]: But does it at all concern you if you're Shador Sanders or a fan of Shador Sanders or a fan of any of the Brown's young quarterbacks that I
- 18:18[SPEAKER_05]: with every single apparent issue with Deshawn, with the known back, not that the owners care about the fans in the backlash, but with every possible element, with everyone knowing that Deshawn start would go exactly how it did.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_05]: Does it worry you at all that like, Shoulder Sanders didn't win?
- 18:33[SPEAKER_05]: What should have been the easiest quarterback job of all time?
- 18:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, maybe.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_02]: I think there were a lot of questions about that, right?
- 18:40[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I think we talked about it last time I was last time I was with you guys.
- 18:44[SPEAKER_02]: It was, you know,
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: Why is, you know, it was, it was, why is this guy not starting?
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: Because he has looked like the, he did look like the better quarterback in the preseason.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_02]: He, he looked like the more, he, he looked like he was the one who operated the offense better.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: He moved the ball better.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, that is not all preseason football is about because operational, operation matters and some of those other things matter.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: And so,
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, truly, I mean, it might make you think as a Browns fan that the quarterback of the future is not necessarily in the building, because the fact of the matter is, as again, as much as I love a good conspiracy and as much as I fully understand that there are politics involved, like these coaches want to win football games.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_02]: If the call comes from upstairs above their head, and the ownership says, this is the guy you're starting.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: I am sure you would never do that, Garrett.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_02]: Jimmy, you listen to the boss, but these coaches want to win football games.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_02]: They want to keep their jobs.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_02]: They want to win football games.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_02]: They are playing the guys who they think give the team the best chance to win.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_02]: Now, sometimes that, sometimes that is out of their control, but that point still remains.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_08]: Garrett, let's shift the gears here because we spent all this time talking about the quarterbacks, but I think it's only right I ask you about Todd Munkin.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_08]: Listen, wasn't the cleanest game, certainly week one.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_08]: What did you see at a Todd Munkin?
- 20:04[SPEAKER_08]: Because a big concern that a lot of people had was, well, he's never been a NFL coach, and that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to be a bad head coach.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_08]: But there is that element.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_08]: Well, we know you're a great play caller, but can you handle the duties of that plus?
- 20:16[SPEAKER_08]: What is required of a head coach?
- 20:17[SPEAKER_08]: And listen, everybody got to come as the fanski for the pre-snap penalties, the dysfunction on the offensive line.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_08]: lack of motions and every time you tried, there was laundry on the field.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_08]: Well, it kind of looked that way for Todd Monk and two.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_08]: What did you make a Todd Monk in in his Browns debut and what was a slaughtering in Jacksonville?
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, again, I'll go back to trying to maintain some sense of positivity here.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: As I, you know, it's week one, it's a very small sample size.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_02]: It is a young offense.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_02]: It is a new offense.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_02]: And while all of those concerns are 100% valid, it is a first time head coach calling plays and trying to operate the game, a lot of penalties, what they have 11 penalties, is that right?
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: Those things are issues.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_02]: I would, however, and again, I've gotten into this data stuff of late.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a big data guy necessarily.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: I trust what my I see.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: I would, however, point to the fact that if you can get rid of the sacks.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_02]: You played a decent, these sacks were disastrous along with the turnovers.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_02]: If you can get rid of the sacks and those disastrous plays, you played a decent game offensively despite what the score says.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_02]: The defense was put in horrible positions all day long.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_02]: They were put, you know, they were,
- 21:45[SPEAKER_02]: But they were called on in sudden change situations, they were called on in short field situations, and they obviously did not answer the bell.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: But once again, it is a small sample size.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the old cliche of a team makes the most improvement between week one and week two is especially true for a young team like this.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_02]: And while I will be rooting for my buddy Baker on Sunday, I expect the Browns to improve just because that's what happens.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_08]: Get it real quick.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_08]: This is how bad the offensive was and what I'm talking about with the pre-snap penalties.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_08]: So the final two-minute drill, excuse me, before halftime, before halftime.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_08]: 132 remaining in the second quarter.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_08]: Start at their own 30 with one time out.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_08]: Watson hits Jerry Judy for 20 yards looks good.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_08]: Then you get a holding to make it first in 20.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_08]: then right after that a full start first in 25 followed by a delay of game to make it first in 30 and guess what that half ends in zero points for the Cleveland Browns.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_08]: So just to give you an example, that's how bad it was on Sunday for the Cleveland Browns.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure I'm going to be able to spin that one in a positive right.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_06]: Hey, you addressed the defense a little bit there.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_06]: What do you, what do you make?
- 22:54[SPEAKER_06]: Last year, we had Jim Schwartz, of course, had a great defense.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_06]: You know, you lose Miles Garrett in the off season.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_06]: We add best onto this team.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_06]: And now, Mike Root and Berg's crew comes out kind of lazin' egg.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_06]: You had some reasons for it there.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_06]: They maybe weren't put in the best position because of the offense.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_06]: Where do you come out on this defense right now?
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'm not, I'm gonna try not to give a non-answer, but again, it is, it is week one.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_02]: It is, it is, it is a very small sample size.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be interesting to see, once again, how they improve, especially when they come back home.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: They have another stiff test against a good offense last week that continued to shoot themselves in the foot.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_02]: And so there could be some opportunities to create some turnovers.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: And you'd like to see some sort of improvement going on this week.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: But again, if you guys just conspiracy holds true, these first two games don't even matter.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_02]: Just get back to Cleveland and then we'll see what happens.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm looking through where Root and Bird came from.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: He is a Robert Sala disciple.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: He kind of comes from maybe not that Pete Carroll tree directly, but basically that style of defense.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously has his own sort of spin on it.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: So he will, again, it takes time, it takes time for these defenses to come together.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: Um, it is week one and it is hard to say that, you know, it is hard to probably take anything positive from that first performance, but like I said, it's, you know, it can only go up from here and, uh, for a lot of the teams that played poorly in week one, that's kind of what they're looking at right now is, you know, how do you, how do you, how do you, how do you, how do you
- 24:45[SPEAKER_02]: How do you start to show some signs of growth going into week two?
- 24:48[SPEAKER_06]: You know Baker better than most people obviously you played alongside him.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_06]: What do you think Baker's mindset is coming in here going against the Cleveland Browns down there in Tampa?
- 25:00[SPEAKER_06]: How badly does he want to beat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday?
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: I wish the game was in Cleveland.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_02]: I really do.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think certainly not gonna put, I'm certainly not gonna put words in Baker's mouth, but I think that obviously this game means a lot to him.
- 25:18[SPEAKER_02]: This is the place that drafted him, gave him his first chance in the NFL.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_02]: There were some really good highlights in the first few years here and then things ended really poorly.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_02]: What was that in the off season of 2021 and then, you know, Bakers, Bakers don't really well to reinvent himself and made a nice home for himself and tampon.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think he loves it there.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: There's two sides of this, obviously, you know, he's grown a lot and he, you know, he famously has has always had sort of a, a large chip on his shoulder and I think that plays into this matchup, but I think he's also grown a lot in terms of, you know, how he, how he carries himself and and I think, you know, there's, there's part of me that's.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, this isn't entirely new coaching staff besides the fact that, you know, our offensive coordinator, or one of our offensive coordinators is now the head coach of the team.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, there's part of me that thinks that some of those bygones are gonna be bygones and maybe that's me being optimistic there because I know that it does mean a lot to them and, you know, playing against his first team and somebody that, you know,
- 26:37[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't, it didn't in the best way.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_02]: So it will be interesting on Sunday to see how dangerous.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_06]: Come on, Baker doesn't strike me as a let's let bygones be bygones type of guy.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, but he's got a couple of kids now.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: And he's, you know, he's, he's matured after kids.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_02]: I can't exactly right.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_06]: He's still got that fire.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_06]: I got a believe that he worked.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_02]: No, the fire, the fire is not gone.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_02]: I can guarantee you that.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_08]: Garrett is obviously not put words in Baker's mouth or anything.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_08]: I'm not asking you to predict anything But what do you think would mean more to him beating Kevin Safansky because again He's in the division now is gonna play him twice a week or twice a year I should say or beating the Cleveland Browns
- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: How about this?
- 27:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'll ask him, I'll ask him, which one is sweeter after after after of both?
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: Well, if in fact, if in fact the books are able to go, I guess, three, you know, in that scenario, I'll ask him, I'll ask him which one was sweeter.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I think they mean a lot for different reasons.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_02]: And in fact, that's kind of where I was going.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, there's a lot of,
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: really great people in that browns organization.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I, I, I, I, I, I told you guys before I got my, Cleveland Browns equipment staff.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, sir.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'm rep in the boys, um, my guy Cory, who I love during my time in Cleveland.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: There's an awesome, the strength staff is phenomenal, the security, John Frane, Dale Jones.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: I, I love all those guys.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: And, and I think, and, and Baker does too.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_02]: Don't know that there's any love loss for for Kevin's defense key.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_02]: So I I'm gonna I'm not again.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna put words in this mouth, but I have a I have a feeling of sneaking suspicion there.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_05]: Garrett, thank you so much for taking the time to join us this morning last real quick question for just because we were we had to be negative coming off a 34 to 10 loss.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_05]: What is your best memory from your time and Cleveland before we get you out of here.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_02]: question.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_02]: I got to say 2019 I know you guys probably as fans were not huge.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_02]: We're not, you know, you don't look back on that very fondly.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: Our Freddie Kitchen season, but man it was so much fun.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how many guys get to be in the same quarterback room with one of their best friends, somebody that grew up with went to the same high school as.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_02]: I
- 28:50[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, I'm, I've, I've discussed this at Nauseam over the years.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: Baker kind of grew up over in our house when we were kids.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: And, um, I got to, for a lack of a better term, take him under my wing when I was a little bit older.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_02]: And then, and then to be able to, to be able to enjoy, um,
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, just like going to work every day with that crew and we had an awesome quarterback room.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mentioned Drew State and earlier Ryan Lindley, it was a really fun year and I don't know that I could necessarily pick one single moment out, but I did have a blast, you know, we both lived over in Crocker Park and getting to, you know, just go walk to dinner after a long week and it, our wives got to be really good friends.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_05]: Gary, thank you so much for joining us for gonna be back.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_05]: And it made with Jason Locken 4.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_05]: It's talking about his big report yesterday to Sean Watson, does the guy even want to play and Cleveland at all.

- 30:16[SPEAKER_08]: It is now my pleasure to welcome in.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_08]: My man, my friend Jason Locken for a long time NFL insider host of the Daily Flock on Big Play Baltimore.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_08]: Jason, it is good to catch up with you again.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_08]: My friend, how are you doing?
- 30:27[SPEAKER_03]: it's good to see you guys.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_03]: Hello, Cleveland.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: Hope everybody's well and enjoying Shador watch or Watson Watch or whatever, I guess, however you frame it, whatever you call it.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_03]: Haslam Watch.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yes, whatever you want to get, I don't know, whatever.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_03]: Actually, it's arch, right?
- 30:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's really arch watch, probably.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_08]: Yes, arch for march is what the streets are saying and Jason We're here the man I want to talk to it about as a much better week one for your ravens than our Browns But that's besides the point Jason you came out with the article I believe it was either yesterday or the day before and it kind of it kind of caught the waves right?
- 31:00[SPEAKER_08]: I guess my first question to you is you write that monkey and yielded ownership on the quarterback decision What specifically have you learned about?
- 31:08[SPEAKER_08]: Haslam's role.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_08]: I guess in that quarterback decision
- 31:12[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, he's paying this guy, you know, the final $45 million and he wants to earn it and I got a call from a GM last night who read what I wrote and he's like, dude, I think part of this, too, is like he's almost gambling on this guy getting hurt.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_03]: He's like, you know, the way the insurance works on this thing like this guy getting hurt might actually be a way.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_03]: for haslam to recoup something out of what's been obviously, uh, you know, I don't know, one of the worst sunk costs in the history of pro sports, like when you factor in not just the money, but like write the optics and the fan reaction and like what it's done for his brand and like usually your quarterback, you make a lot of money on your quarterback, right?
- 31:49[SPEAKER_03]: Because you're selling a lot of jerk, like, I mean, just the totality of this investment.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_03]: and what a mess it's been.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, it's obviously personal.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the owners are in charge, the owners, this guy's been involved in picking players.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he says that himself like and and they have that right.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_03]: He unfortunately hasn't been particularly good at much of any of that, but this quarterback is playing because he's making
- 32:13[SPEAKER_03]: the money he's making right he's making 45 times more anybody else at that position basically for how long I don't think too much longer you know I think by the time they get front of the dog bound he may have got his pound of flesh and the way Watson's playing he might have thrown three picks in the first half this week like and made the decision for them I do think it's coming to a head um the league thinks it's coming to a head uh and it's yeah it's about money and it's about
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: the sort of very real friction between what we paid you to be and who you are.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_05]: Jason, I wanted to ask you because I feel like for almost all of my lifetime, Cleveland has been the laughing stock in football in some way, shape or form.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_05]: Believe it or not, it's crazy as that sounds.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_05]: When you got to talk to people around the league about this, like outside of just the general shock, is the feeling still there that it's just like everyone
- 33:08[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, they've done the sort of tank thing before, and it hasn't worked.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_03]: You know, so like, it's not a cure all, right?
- 33:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's not a panacea, like you still have to build it up the right way.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_03]: Now clearing the decks and getting a quarterback makes sense, but then like you've got to pick the right quarterback and then you've got to like incubate him the right way right and you've got to bring him along and bring the roster along and so just the idea that we're going to hoard assets and future, you know, draft capital and all that like.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_03]: I, you know, like, that's, that's a lot of people have done that.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_03]: It hasn't worked out real well for, for many of them.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the Haslam regime's been a disaster and it surprised a lot of people because when this went down and he left the Steelers organization, there were a lot of smart people in the Steelers organization who felt like
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: This guys were we're a little worried like this guy learned a lot from us and we think you smart and we think will hire the right people and get out of the way like that's the runaway right and so they thought the sleeping giant might be awakening and well that just has been the case.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_06]: Jason, let me make sure that I heard you right earlier.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_06]: This wasn't a conspiracy fan theory, but it was a GM that told you that he thought maybe had some was banking on the fact that to Sean Watson might hurt himself and he might be able to recruit some of the injury, the insurance.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he's like, look, I didn't go into the management council and pull up every bit of language in this contract, but he's like,
- 34:40[SPEAKER_03]: what I am thinking and what other people like me are thinking and when like you talk about the Browns amongst other personnel people and why this played out like it did, that's one factor that it's the overarching contract above all else.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: But then it's also the idea of he I'm not going to give him 45 to hold a clipboard and if I'm given him 45 to go out there and play, well like he's been hurt a lot and we've been hurt a lot and so the way this generally works is
- 35:09[SPEAKER_08]: Jason, if ownership is effectively choosing the quarterback, what exactly are the Browns paying Todd Munkin and executive to executive to decide, and I would love to know your view in the national view of Jimmy Haslam in 2026.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: Look, I mean, I think Todd Munkin knew exactly what he was walking into.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the whole league knew what he was walking into.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_03]: Anybody who interviewed for that job knew that like,
- 35:30[SPEAKER_03]: They are 9 and 10 when this guy plays.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_03]: It's an ugly 9 and 10, but it's 9 and 10 and 9 and 10 for the Browns is okay.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_03]: And he's got one more payment to give him one more year and he's stuck with him.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_03]: So you're stuck with him and so he doesn't wanna beat of $45 million third quarterback.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: What's you, it's all that's understandable.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_03]: Now,
- 35:49[SPEAKER_03]: How deep into the season do we have to play this trade?
- 35:51[SPEAKER_03]: What's it like if we come out for warm ups and he's already getting booed two hours before kick off at the first home game?
- 35:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like, yeah, that stuff starts to get real.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_03]: And so again, I don't think this is going the last too much longer.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_03]: But like, you know, this is Todd Monkins.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_03]: Probably one shot to do it.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think incredibly highly, a Todd Monkins.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think Todd Monkins will help them develop some football players.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: I think Todd Monkins, once they get on the other side of this,
- 36:17[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe he can do some things with Sanders and I guess maybe even Gabriel That's better than expectations and I know the bars low.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_03]: I mean in terms of hazelnut.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_03]: It's you guys live it.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean what is that what like what I mean?
- 36:32[SPEAKER_03]: I guess we can't blame Deepa Desta anymore.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean like what what is what's going right?
- 36:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean it is what it is It's it's unfortunate.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of the best NFL cities.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_03]: It's one of the best NFL fan bases
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: He's doing all right.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_03]: He's making money off it and he's gotten into the soccer thing and then you write the stadiums coming in 2029, but what does it meant for the quality of football and what does it meant for real hopes and dreams and aspirations of a bombardy trophy?
- 37:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's been an object failure.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_08]: So Jason, do you think the Browns knew exactly what was going to happen on Sunday?
- 37:04[SPEAKER_08]: Maybe not to that extent, right?
- 37:05[SPEAKER_08]: But they know these first two weeks are going to be a train wreck.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_08]: And take everything with a grain of salt, all the word vomit about Todd Munkin.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_08]: Well, we don't want any preconceived notions.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_08]: Haven't watched the tape, we give everybody a fair chance.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_08]: Is that all word salad and word vomit?
- 37:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, like, this is, I mean, I don't think people are shocked by what?
- 37:22[SPEAKER_03]: No, Jacks was really good footballty.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I mean, like, I don't think, like,
- 37:29[SPEAKER_03]: They know they're not, they know they're not a real competitive, like they know they don't have a really competitive roster.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_03]: There's no reason to say that out loud, but the whole league understands what, they traded in my parents.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like, come on, hey, so,
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you're kind of putting lipstick on a pig.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_03]: You want to get people behind you as much as you can, but that monks a sharp guy he understands the climate there regarding the quarterback, he knows that they're in a little bit of an early season behind he knows what the schedule suggests.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_03]: And he also knows it's a long season and the whole goal there is to develop players like they've got to develop a core that they can then build around with the quarterback being the most important piece in the cherry on top, but like it's about, you know,
- 38:17[SPEAKER_03]: what some of these pieces can look like.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_03]: And are we, are we, are our young players looking better in on the other side of Thanksgiving, then they look the first half of the season.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_05]: Jason, I wanted to ask you, ask you about this quote from your article, because it kind of made me like, my eyes popped out of my head like Wiley Coyote really doing this.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_05]: He'll keep playing like shit to see how fast they'll pull him.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_05]: He's calling their bluff.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_05]: Could you just expand a bit on that?
- 38:43[SPEAKER_05]: Like, is this to Sean Watson?
- 38:44[SPEAKER_05]: Like, somewhat intentionally not doing his best?
- 38:48[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he tried to get out of the job in the precinct.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he tried to talk his way out of the chat like I get.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like, these are just people in the league who I have great relationships with who aren't going to bullshit me, who I've no reason to bullshit me and have no reason to try to be a part of.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_03]: Cyops to pretend that this is something other than it is.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the guy tries to talk his way out of the job.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_03]: They said you have to do it anyway.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I've been tracking to show a Watson in the first half of games forever.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_03]: Like, just run some, it's in sipping.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_03]: Like, you cannot tell me that this is a guy who's going out there to maximize what he can do, play in, play out, to get that,
- 39:29[SPEAKER_03]: to reward their investment in him.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_03]: And people watch the game film, where we're way smarter than me, or like, yeah, he doesn't really want to extend plays.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't want to do this.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't want to do that.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like the tape speaks for itself.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_03]: Hot Munkin came out and said I wanted to see if he has fun playing football.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_03]: Like, was that not a Todd Munkin quote after the first preseason game?
- 39:51[SPEAKER_08]: Jason, he's talking about Dishon Watson learning the playbook still in learning schemes.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_08]: Like, you're talking about a 10 year vet, right?
- 39:58[SPEAKER_08]: And Jason, I want to get your opinion on this.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_08]: Scott was an all pro.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_08]: I want to get your opinion on this too real quick because my issue was with not starting Shidorah Sanders was this isn't just some savvy vet.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_08]: If you had Joe Flackos still, if you had Carson once who pulled out on Sunday, I'd understand, but you're talking about a guy who can no longer read an NFL defense in your opinion.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_08]: I know your opinion.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_08]: I don't know.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_08]: You can't really.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that he can't.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's fine for medicine balls.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_03]: I think the, the, the, it speaks for itself.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_03]: He's fine throwing 50, 50 balls, right?
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: He's fine running out of bounds instead of extending plays.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_03]: Like he's making what the league is perceiving to be business decisions, thinking at some point.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_03]: They're making me play.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_03]: Well, at some point, if I play even like less inspired football than I did before, and you know, we got Pittsburgh coming up at home, do they just pull the plug on me by week three?
- 40:47[SPEAKER_03]: And I can go back to making my money holding a clipboard.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, like we're kind of back where we started, but like that, that is how the league is perceiving the game that's being played here between the quarterback and the owner.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_06]: You also had a GM tell you that Watson doesn't want to be here.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_06]: He never wanted to be here.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_06]: Where did he want to be in Atlanta?
- 41:05[SPEAKER_03]: He wanted to be in Atlanta.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_03]: And they eventually threw so much money and he has little new that there's got to be a like a factor of X between me and blank that gets him to come here.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_03]: And the factor of X was I'm guaranteeing the whole GD thing.
- 41:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't care what my billionaire boy's club friends think about it.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 41:24[SPEAKER_03]: That was it.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_08]: like that that's when it finally went to I got to do this like I can't like all right I'm coming to Cleveland Jason your article makes it very clear and I'm not going to pretend that we didn't already know this at Jimmy Haslam has an obsession with archmaning we know the Tennessee connections there.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_08]: is it not dangerous in your opinion for the owner to get that attached to a quarterback because listen i know archmaning is talented but i can't guarantee he's going to be the best one and how do i know now that jimmy isn't watching arch just with confirmation bias you don't know that i mean he he fell in love with johnny manzo right i mean like again like i don't know
- 42:04[SPEAKER_03]: Lessons have been learned here like I don't I don't know.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_03]: He just paid this guy He did things he didn't want to do for disarrow watching just to get him to come here like so this is who he is like these are how decisions are made So yeah, no you have to be you have to be worried.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Um Now how again
- 42:21[SPEAKER_03]: No one was talking about Mendoza this time last year.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe some of these decisions end up being made for them because that's the nature college football.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_03]: These kids are 25 years old, 26 years old in some cases.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: Right, they're late bloomers.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_03]: They've moved around.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_03]: The light bulb goes off.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_03]: Like, does Arch can't hurt?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_03]: Look, the other thing about Arch is,
- 42:39[SPEAKER_03]: a lot of people think he's staying in school no matter what like if they give $1 million to stay there next year like does he just do that or whatever the numbers whatever the number is and what he can make in endorsements and everything else like if he doesn't love the the landscape or where he thinks he could go where he's probably going there's that so I mean haslam could if some of the decision could be made for him and some of them could be safe from himself.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_08]: I was going to see Jason, so we're going to be approaching this conversation in a years time when the NFL draft comes and assume the Browns, maybe they have the number one pick and maybe Arch to Clarity's coming out.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_08]: Is this going to be a story about the owner making the pick for the quarterback for the future of this team, rather than delegating it to Andrew Barry and the staff?
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, I think it'll be collective, but I mean, who's paying the freight?
- 43:19[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he
- 43:24[SPEAKER_03]: the like do we think he's if Archmany comes out do we think he's going to just sit it out like you you tell me like do you think he's going to like how long is that process like let's say Archmany places last game in January and this isn't happening until damn near me like you and and all these kids are flying like that you fly them all into your building right now you win them and you don't like the very nature of the process how would he not be involved?
- 43:48[SPEAKER_03]: He's getting the new stadium right like this is this is we could say all the important things that have happened there and boy there's been a lot This is now the new most important thing to ever happen to the Cleveland Brown since he's owned them and you're telling me He's just gonna say You guys got it and just let me know what you do.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_03]: Hi.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_03]: Is there anything in His profile his resume that would say
- 44:10[SPEAKER_03]: That's how it's going to go down and is that does it ever go down that way with a pick like any owner in this situation is really going to fully delegate it.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_05]: Jason, I wanted to ask you a bit of a two-part question, two-prong.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_05]: So what do you expect if anything to come for opportunities for Shidorah Sanders in the near future, off of what you're hearing, and kind of building off of that as well is, how do you think, because you wrote about the locker room, how do you think this affects the locker room when some guys, whether it's just the old song or the same old song and dance, or they don't like the guy, you're just running to Sean Watson back out there.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_03]: No, I mean, how do you play inspired football?
- 44:46[SPEAKER_03]: Like, they know he's not a leader and not only is he not a leader, he does not want to be a leader.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_03]: You cannot say the things he said after a preseason game and pretend to be the leader of that team.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_03]: Like this stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like it doesn't, like it's not just fodder for us and the players just, you know, our lunch pal guys and they punch in and punch out.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_03]: It's everywhere.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_03]: It's saturating them.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's in the media they consume.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_03]: It's in the conversation the wives have.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_03]: So to, you know, asking me about what Monk says and what Monk has to say, like, but, yeah, they know.
- 45:18[SPEAKER_03]: Now, I don't know how, how should or going to play.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_03]: Like, again, I believe in Monk.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: I know Monk like the kid coming out of college.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think Monk can do something schematically.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think Monk has a pretty good blend of like he's got the old school in him.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_03]: And he certainly knows how to be a bad cop, but I think he also knows how to be a good cop.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_03]: And my suspicion is when this goes down, Watson is basically completely out of the equation.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_03]: So at least until whenever Gabriel's on the other side of IR, like, I don't think he's got to look over, like, what's his happens?
- 45:53[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think he's getting pulled at the half of the first game, even if he throws three picks.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I just think it is what it is for a period of time.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I think they will approach him and say, you've got a runway here, let's see what we can do.
- 46:06[SPEAKER_03]: But again, like how much talent is on that team and are they really built the compete and they're in a tough division?
- 46:12[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I mean, there could be three teams that go to the playoffs and their division.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_03]: So there's obviously factors working against.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_06]: Hey, stay in on Chitter.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_06]: Let's go back to last year when we actually drafted him.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_06]: What was the thoughts at GM's and people you talked to about the decision for the Browns to even draft Chitter Sanders?
- 46:28[SPEAKER_06]: And then second part of that is what are the thoughts around the league on Chitter Sanders right now?
- 46:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we don't know.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_03]: He's barely played.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they used, you know, smart GM's old school used to say you need 32 games and he 32 starts to know like, where, where, where are you three?
- 46:44[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know five.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, where are we?
- 46:45[SPEAKER_03]: And what were the conditions that those were under, right?
- 46:48[SPEAKER_03]: And it was a coach would basically checking out.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, so like,
- 46:52[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think people know, as to the drafting, like, I talked to people high up with other teams that were looking at quarterbacks, like really looking at quarterbacks and that took quarterbacks, and saw them took quarterbacks high, and many of them were like, the kid didn't help himself, like, there's a lot of BS, like, someone with the giants was like, like, here in this market, like,
- 47:18[SPEAKER_03]: with what we've gone through, like probably not, but like in the fifth round, like, come on.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_03]: There's that there is extreme value there.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_03]: Like the opportunity cost, and once we got really even passed the second or third round, like no, he should not have gone that low.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of this was about things other than football.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_03]: And a lot of it was about politics.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_03]: And again, self-inflicted wounds.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like, I don't be, I like begrudge them at all, taking him where they did.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_03]: I find it shocking that Dylan Gabriel went before him.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I will always, I will always find that, like just from just a pure side, like metrics, like find the comp, find me the comp for Dylan Gabriel in the NFL, like, who, who worked.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like,
- 48:11[SPEAKER_03]: It don't tell me Russell Wilson isn't Russell Wilson's on like, no, like find me the comp like so that whatever, but like no, there's people who were like it could work out like he's better than a fifth round pick like he should have gone higher and in the right situation now was clean.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_08]: Jason, let's talk about the Todd Munkin, the head coach, right?
- 48:32[SPEAKER_08]: Because you know him more than about 99% of people, you cover Baltimore for so long.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_08]: Obviously they're offensive coordinator comes to Cleveland and the whole thing is, well, he's an older guy, and this is surprisingly, only his first time coaching and NFL team.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_08]: Now there were legitimate concerns about can he call plays while managing?
- 48:49[SPEAKER_08]: the responsibilities of head coach.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_08]: And week one certainly wasn't smooth if anything.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_08]: A lot of pre-snap penalties.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_08]: A lot of the same problems that we saw with Kevin's defense ski.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_08]: Jason, just your overall thoughts on Todd Munkin's debut as the Cleveland Brown side coach.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_03]: I don't have that he can walk and chew go.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_03]: He coached at the college level.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_03]: He should have got the jet job when Gase got it.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_03]: The football people in that building wanted him.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_03]: He was one of the finalists.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_03]: The owner wanted Adam Gase.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_03]: Adam Gase was allegedly the hot dye and the it dye or whatever and you know, monk wasn't sexy enough for New York.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_03]: No, I have zero concerns about that now again if the quarterback doesn't want to be there and he's dead settle being a double agent and he's undermining your operation like and the backdrop of what this is we just talked them out of a 20 minutes like that yeah I mean
- 49:44[SPEAKER_03]: There's a reason they've hired the guys they've hired, right?
- 49:46[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of people who, if they've got other options, they're not taking that job or they're at a certain point in their career.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_03]: They're not taking that job.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_03]: And when you take it under this backdrop, which is you're probably going to have to play one, two, three, four games or whatever with Watson no matter what happens this summer.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_03]: That's going to, that's going to color things, but I have zero, like, if there's people who are like, they don't know if you can handle a sideline and call plays at the same time, like, I don't think that's a problem whatsoever.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_08]: Jason, last one for you, I think I know your answer to this one, but I'm going to ask it anyway.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_08]: When Watson inevitably fails, they move on, Monkin takes the criticism, and I don't know.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_08]: Maybe they're all with him next year, maybe they move on.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_08]: What accountability exists for Haslam, for Barry, the guys that are making these decisions,
- 50:34[SPEAKER_03]: Well, there's no accountability for owners.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's the league.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's their league and everybody else, the personal conduct policy doesn't really apply to them.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, they make the rules.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_03]: They make up the rules.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_03]: They pay a guy $50 million to be a human shield and be the face of all their criticism and be the face of all their rules or shenanigans or coverups or whatever.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: No, I mean, dude, he's getting a stadium.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like, what's, what's been the accountability for Jimmy?
- 51:01[SPEAKER_03]: Hasn't nothing is, it's worth way more than he bought it for.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_03]: The infrastructure has improved exponentially.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_03]: He doesn't have to fit the bill for the improvement of all the infrastructure himself.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_03]: It's shared, shared cost.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_03]: And they never, you know, you got to go real far, like, dance kniter to have them to get Congress involved to like, run a rip it out of your hands, like, and we're not in any situation like that.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_03]: So, um, Jason, I'm starting with owners.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_08]: Real quick, last one.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_08]: Real quick, last one.
- 51:35[SPEAKER_08]: So based on that, do you think the Browns can be a successful franchise under ownership of Jimmy Haselman?
- 51:41[SPEAKER_08]: How much of ownership in your opinion
- 51:45[SPEAKER_03]: It's viral.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_03]: No, I don't.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_03]: I mean
- 51:50[SPEAKER_03]: Based on what?
- 51:50[SPEAKER_03]: Like, why would I say now it's going to work?
- 51:53[SPEAKER_03]: Like, this has been going on a long time.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, this guy bought the team when I was at NFL Network.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I mean, how long has it been?
- 51:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's been forever.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I remember the league meetings in Chicago and all this stuff.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_03]: Like, 2012, Jason.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I was kids.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_03]: I was like, kids ago.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I've had kids since.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_03]: Like, like, no, why?
- 52:08[SPEAKER_03]: What, how?
- 52:10[SPEAKER_03]: What, I mean, come on now.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I get that there's a learning curve.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, it might take them a year to stop.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_03]: No, wow, it's gotcha dope!
- 52:20[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, come on, like, it's the family affair, stop.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_03]: No, you guys are F, like, what do you want me to say?
- 52:27[SPEAKER_03]: I, I, Jason, I, I'm listening to your press.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you're so depressed, you're so depressed.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_08]: You're so too many, it's exactly our story.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_03]: It's just ownership matter.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_03]: No, it doesn't matter at all.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_03]: It's complete crapsure.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't, it's a, it's a relevant parody.
- 52:40[SPEAKER_03]: Now the legal eventually put you in the playoffs once every three years, no matter what.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_08]: Jason, plug your socials for us, the daily flock.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_08]: Big playball, it's more YouTube.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_08]: And of course, you're a contributor for Ravens and Orals on SI, but tell us the stage where we can find it, you're all your work.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, to find my NFL work really easy, place to go, it's just at Jason Locke and for her.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing a lot of coverage for a lot of different people that goes to a lot of the different out.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_03]: It's a lot of freelancing, but I'm constantly talking to people in the league and basically doing what I used to do for the Washington Post or for a CBS Sports or NFL.com in terms of weekly notebooks and reporting on what's going on in this league, but just doing it for a bunch of different outlets.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_03]: Some fan side and somewhere.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_03]: But like, if you go to that Jason Locken for, you'll find it.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_05]: Jason, thank you so much for your time.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_05]: Don't go anywhere.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_05]: Hey guys.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_05]: Sorry.
- 53:29[UNKNOWN]: You're good.

- 54:11[SPEAKER_05]: 78 and 75.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_05]: 70 and 75.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_05]: Your guard hosts in the white socks all tied up after another double digit comeback in the division.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_05]: Cade number one reason this ball club
- 54:23[SPEAKER_04]: I think the youngsters, I think it's the biggest thing right now.
- 54:25[SPEAKER_04]: There's that energy that's coming from the guys like PD Halpin, Travis Bosnana, we're seeing Daniel Espino open games as well.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_04]: What a, what a remarkable turnaround it's been for the Guardians, at least on the youngsters out of things.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's been super nice to see because Halpin, he was somewhat of a concern in the middle parts of the year, got sent down, brought back up, Travis Bosnana, he had what a dry spell for what felt like two and a half months or so.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_05]: There's dummies on the internet talking about it everywhere.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, and they were saying, oh, he shouldn't have been the first pick.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, he should be down in AAA.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_04]: If I got a hold of that guy, let me tell you.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_04]: Ah, and here he is now.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_04]: But man, what an exciting team is says.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_04]: And when they're firing all cylinders, they're a playoff squad.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_04]: Like they certainly are.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_04]: But the biggest thing I will say about them is it's got to be consistent.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_05]: So let's get into this weekend first, K, because it may be pretty dumb, look past anything right now.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_05]: Let's talk about these A's because they're impossible, like, for a casual baseball fan or a not national person, you're thinking like, okay, they moved out of Oakland, they play in a park that the fences are like 200 feet, everyone on their team has 900 home runs for no reason because they play there, they don't have it name, can you even call them the A's?
- 55:25[SPEAKER_05]: It's just the A's, are they Sacramento?
- 55:27[SPEAKER_05]: What go it like?
- 55:28[SPEAKER_05]: Does this ball club scare you at all?
- 55:30[SPEAKER_05]: Or should this be too fun for you to mention?
- 55:31[SPEAKER_04]: I think offensively, yeah.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_04]: It's funny because you kind of look at teams like the Guardians, because as an actual someone who covers Cleveland or someone who's a Cleveland fan, you kind of compare teams based off of the Guardians, right?
- 55:42[SPEAKER_04]: And so you think of a team that's really similar to the Guardians, you think of the Chicago White Sox.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_04]: Well, then I think like the next step up from that's probably the A's in the sense of there are a young team, but they've also got a few like experience guys kind of hanging in there, but they're really exciting in the sense that they're
- 55:57[SPEAKER_04]: 10 runs are fun to watch their pitching side is where I get the most concerned with them and that's from their perspective because it is all over the place you've got guys who been out there for 35 games in Jack Perkins who went three and eleven on the year.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_04]: You've got JT J and who who played in twenty seven games he's got three seventy hour a but he's given up on a chunk of home runs like their their pitching staff isn't too good and I think that's where Cleveland can take advantage of them for sure.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_08]: What's an area about this Cleveland Guardian scene that you think fans aren't giving enough credit for?
- 56:26[SPEAKER_08]: Is it the starting rotation?
- 56:27[SPEAKER_08]: Is it these young guys contributing the way they are already in their careers?
- 56:30[SPEAKER_08]: I don't want to say we're taking it for granted.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_08]: But considering the impact from these year one players has just been outstanding.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_04]: It's a great question because I'd love to be like, yeah, the bullpen.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_04]: But no, it's just an out of 10.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_04]: Because there's been, there's so many times you've been like,
- 56:43[SPEAKER_04]: They're good.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_04]: They're turning it around and they're just awful the very next game.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_04]: But the one thing to me that's been super consistent all year round has been that starting rotation.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_04]: And I know the headlines are going to gravitate towards the slates of Coney start that were trouble some earlier in the year or the Tanner Bobby won every six games that he goes out there and has to get pulled after two frames.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_04]: And I understand that's frustrating to have happen.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_04]: But we've also seen some incredible remarkable outings from the starting rotation.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_04]: Well, the offense goes out there and puts up one run or zero runs or two runs.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_04]: You can't have that happen when you're starting rotations going out there and doing the job excellently.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's an area of this scene that gets talked about a good bit, but doesn't get truly enough credit for how well they've played this year.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_06]: Well, one of the things they've been doing lately is having a flare for the dramatic and one of those players that we see right in the center of it is Brian Rokio, you know, anybody who's been following his career, you've seen the ups, you've seen the downs, you've seen the roller coaster that
- 57:39[SPEAKER_06]: what is it this time of year that seems to turn him on and all the sudden you have things that happen in that game the other night where you got the left field are playing in.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_06]: It's just far enough.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_06]: He does just enough to be the hero once again, Brian Rokio, rock timber, where we at with Brian Rokio right now.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, he's such a fun player man.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_04]: And he's such a great, you know, person for this city.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_04]: He's he's next in line to be that hose air mirror type of personality and Cleveland just because of the way that he carries himself and it's funny you asked that because we were kind of thinking that all year round because remember if you think back to the beginning of the year he was doing
- 58:16[SPEAKER_04]: this he was having those walk off moments.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_04]: I remember he smacked one down the right field line to walk things off early in the year.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_04]: It was like the 3rd or 4th home series.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_04]: And it's like at the beginning of the year he turned it on at the end of the year.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_04]: He does the same thing.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_04]: I was there last year when he walked off the Texas Rangers and that was like the most remarkable home run I've ever seen off the foul pole.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_04]: I mean that was incredible.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_04]: And then we see him delivering now.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's it's two big things that make Brian Rochio.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_04]: This is good at this point in the year.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't waver at the plate no matter what, like he's not a jumpy guy.
- 58:44[SPEAKER_04]: He doesn't let the nerves get to him.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_04]: Did you see how calm he was the plate in that situation two outs, two on, game on the line, and he brings in two runs to win it?
- 58:52[SPEAKER_04]: It's just calmness, but it's also his awareness of the moment.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_04]: He recognized it.
- 58:55[SPEAKER_04]: He wants to be the guy at the plate in those situations.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_04]: And that goes a long way, because I want to ask you guys, how old's Brian Rokio?
- 59:03[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, gosh, 25, he's 25 years old.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_08]: I would have guessed like 20, I probably would have guessed 27.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_04]: I was going to get exactly like when I was thinking back to it when I was, you know, the dead, like it was like midnight or something like hell, Brian Rokio is like think in 27.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_04]: He's 27.
- 59:15[SPEAKER_04]: Exactly.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_04]: He's 25 years old and that's the thing that I think people forget about.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_04]: He's so young still and he's been up here for what three years now.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_04]: He's had some moments where he got sent down like last year.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_04]: But Brian Rokio is made to be a Cleveland Guardian.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_08]: Kate, I've been asking everybody this.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_08]: Do you think Clutch is an actual gene that players have or for lack of better terms?
- 59:35[SPEAKER_08]: Do you think this is just some rokyo magic?
- 59:39[SPEAKER_04]: Hmm, great question.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's, I think it's got to be a gene and it comes down to two main things.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_04]: It's the welcoming of the moment, but the calmness internally to be ready for that moment.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_04]: Because you can obviously go up there and be like, I want to be the guy to get there.
- 59:51[SPEAKER_04]: But if the nerves are going crazy, you're not going to get it done.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_04]: We see it all the time in sports.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_04]: Like, you get to moments and you're like,
- 59:57[SPEAKER_04]: this guy's got it he's jazzed up and then that that that goes the opposite direction it showed.
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_04]: We've seen on how Martinez do it a couple times because he's a very swing and missed type of guy but when he can connect he hits at the yard but Brian wrote you there's just something about him like you see him at the plate in big moments and you kind of go
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_04]: something's going to happen here.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_04]: You know what I mean?
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_04]: And it just goes a long way when you can have a player that can do that.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_04]: It reminds you of somebody that, you know, like even like a Bryce Harper, someone who gets to the plate in a big situation, you're like, he's a superstar.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_04]: Brian Roku isn't a superstar, but he carries that weight in big moments where you go something could happen here.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_05]: Another guy.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_04]: I'm talking about the professor.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously, he's had, let me tell you.
- 1:00:33[SPEAKER_06]: He's share of big moments over the years.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_06]: Jose Ramirez had a big birthday yesterday, but he's also hurt.
- 1:00:40[SPEAKER_06]: Our own Carlos Bayerga said he's about 40% right now.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_06]: Where do you come out right now?
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_06]: Where is Jose Ramirez?
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_06]: Where is his health at?
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_04]: yeah health wise i think that he knows it i think the whole clubhouse knows it that he's not obviously fully where he needs to be and it's been talked about um obviously you know you'll have the guys who say oh no he's he's back the normal when he had that two double night the other day but it it's not hose air mirrors and anyone with two eyes can see that but it's not a negative to talk about that like that's what i try to
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_04]: I talked about it.
- 1:01:09[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like the last time we were talking guards here on the show is with Matt Fontaine and Bruce Drenning.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_04]: It's not a negative to say, Jose Ramirez is having a downier.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's just a factual statement.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_04]: And that's not something that you were going to drag them to the mud about.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_04]: But you have to recognize that as a fan base and go, we're getting to the back half cycle of Jose Ramirez's career.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_04]: But he's still hitting 230.
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_04]: He's still slugging 364 on the air.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_04]: He still has 26 doubles in 11 home runs.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_04]: These aren't numbers that are going to go, hey, put you in the conversation of MVP.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_04]: But they're, they're
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_04]: There's still contributions that matter to its team, and he still has that leadership.
- 1:01:39[SPEAKER_04]: A couple nights back when Vote talked about him post game.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_04]: He said, when Jose Ramirez is on, we're on, when Jose Ramirez goes we go.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_04]: And you saw him have that big night at the plate, and guys in the dugout were fired up.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_04]: Guys were moving for this team, and that goes a long way.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_04]: He's not going to be a guy who's going to go out there right now at this point in the year and give you a 300 batting average probably in the postseason.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_04]: He could, but
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_04]: at this point in the air feels like he's at that spot where he's going to come in a couple moments and give you some good stuff.
- 1:02:05[SPEAKER_04]: But no matter what he's going to bring you that presence of the dugout that goes a long way.
- 1:02:09[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to hit a massive home around the playoffs.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_05]: There's no two ways about it.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to go on the opposite round of you.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_05]: He's going to hit a friggin' nuke and the whole time he's going to explode.
- 1:02:15[SPEAKER_05]: It's going to be the coolest thing ever.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_05]: It's going to be like 2022 when he hit the tire off my clan of hand.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_05]: I think it was in game game one of the wildcard round.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_05]: K, do you talk about the bullpen a minute ago as something
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_05]: not got what obviously we don't don't want things to go south here over the final nine games but if things are to go south whether that's you don't win the division and you end up as the six seed or somehow uh Texas or Toronto come from behind that those together yeah and one of those guys catch you at the end and you miss the playoffs all together do you think it would be quiet bats or just already we've been
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_05]: using our bullpen, so like, exhausting the last couple of weeks, Cades, we can go in in the eighth inning.
- 1:02:50[SPEAKER_05]: It's like every single game.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_05]: Do you think it's more likely to be the bats go dead, or just the bullpen that's already been shaky, just finally runs out of gas in the tank?
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_04]: I think if anything really hurts this team, it's that offense, and I just go back to it, because the bullpen is always going to be what the bullpen has been all year long, and that's really inconsistent.
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_04]: But,
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_04]: the thing that scares me the most with this offense is that like I said when they're hot they're so good but when they're not they're so not like they'll go out there and post three hits or six hits and no walks or three hits and a walk and it's like that's never gonna get the job done so I I circle the offense as the main
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_04]: outlier for this because we've seen like the past couple of days when they're going they can put up 6 to 9 runs or 6 to 10 runs right and that can help carry you with a bullpen that's struggling but what's not going to be able to do that is if your bullpen's playing great in your starting rotations playing great and you will have the opposing team to zero one or two runs but your offense doesn't give you anything that's the biggest concern with this team I feel like time and time again and it's like beating a dead horse because
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_04]: Consistency is such a big thing with young teams, but there are some experience guys on here that are super inconsistent as well at this point in the year And so I really just do circle that off and to go if they can just continue this hot streak into the weekend and through the finish of the regular season I'll feel much more comfortable in the posties and rules around
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_08]: Kate, the athleticser in town now, and I got to ask you is taking two or three from the athletics a successful weekend for you or because of how close this division races is the expectation of sweep against an inferior team.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think two of three you always got to take and I think at this point in the year you're trying to go, I mean what with nine games last year trying to go seven and two or six and three to finish the year on another spot.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I mean, what you're trying to do is win and move for the next day and win and move to the next day.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_04]: And I know we talked about how important that that Chicago white sock series was and because it really was to to obviously those American League Central.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_04]: And so you wanted to take that series and put it on a pedestal of like this is what the regular season comes down to.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_04]: Right, but you still have to look at these last few games and you're not going to go out there and be like,
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_04]: You know, if we don't get a sweep against the A's worn a tough situation, because you're really not.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_04]: You just have to stay afloat, continue to carry your weight and get the job done, game and game out.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_04]: The white socks are a team that's going to be just around there as well.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_04]: So obviously a sweep's going to put you in a great spot.
- 1:05:00[SPEAKER_04]: The number one thing you don't want to do is look too far ahead or get too on your high horse off the series when this week and go out there and drop a blunder this week and get swept or only take a game.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_08]: So how do you kind of, when you're watching the games, how are you watching to see if in your opinion Steven vote is overmanaging this series?
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, it's, it's honestly a great question.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_04]: I think the biggest thing I've kind of said all year longer, though there were the two biggest things.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_04]: I think or that line-up changes game in a game out when you have guys moving from the number one spot in the lap to the seventh spot of the eighth spot or from the fifth spot to the second spot or the fourth spot.
- 1:05:33[SPEAKER_04]: That to me is a bit overmanaging, but I feel like he has called that down a little bit towards the back half of the year.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_04]: And I understand injuries kind of put a little damper on that and the lackluster play from both Bazana and Quad in the middle months.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_04]: But now at this point in the year, the overmanaging would be seeing that lineup change every single day.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_04]: You have to find a consistent bunch.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_04]: You're not in a position right now where you can tool around before the post season gets here.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_04]: The guys who are playing the best need to be on the field at the same time, and they have to find consistency because
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_04]: When things change in the postseason, and when things reset and you get a fresh sleep, what is one thing you could hang your head on?
- 1:06:05[SPEAKER_04]: Where you're batting in the lineup?
- 1:06:06[SPEAKER_04]: And that goes a long way.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_04]: When you know you're going to be getting up there second in the lineup every single game, or you're going to be out there sixth or seventh, or like in Bryan Rokio's case, going ninth, that that that goes a long way.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_04]: And the same could be set for the bullpen.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_04]: You can't keep switching guys in and out.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_04]: If it's a close game, if it's not a close game, we can't just waste innings.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_04]: That's the biggest thing to all say, because we've seen this team surge in comeback fashion.
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_04]: If you go out there and it's a four one game, or a four nothing game, let's say even after the fifth or sixth inning and Matt Festa comes in, while he's played great as a recent, that to me signal something that you're not confident in, or some youngster comes in like a Franco-alliman.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_04]: What you need to have in those situations, it's the sixth inning, it's a four-off thing game,
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_04]: I don't care.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_04]: Ericsson perhaps got to be out there because you've got to put down the fort and that four run difference.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_04]: That can't balloon in the postseason or in these final few games.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_05]: Great point.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_05]: To keep it rolling a little bit with the lineup because I tell you we're up a great point about just playing these guys and getting into a rhythm.
- 1:07:00[SPEAKER_05]: I want to take it back to last or not last in a long week, brother.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_05]: Monday this week, this week, Monday the guards roll a lineup that we're all like, all right, that's the best thing we've all seen since 95.
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_05]: Let's roll.
- 1:07:10[SPEAKER_05]: Let's do it.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_05]: Let's take this series.
- 1:07:12[SPEAKER_05]: And you get scunked like what?
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_05]: 7 to 3 or whatever it was.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_05]: And then the next two days, like I mean, we're sitting here, I open Twitter every tweet.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_05]: Why is David Freyd line up?
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_05]: Why is PD helping in line up?
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_05]: And those are the two days where your offense comes up clutch and gets you the big wins.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_05]: Obviously.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_05]: Joe Adel.
- 1:07:26[SPEAKER_05]: Bizarna step up Tuesday.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_05]: Alvin, baby.
- 1:07:28[SPEAKER_05]: Wednesday.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_05]: PD helping.
- 1:07:30[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, if there was ever a time for a home run brother, I guess you picked the right one.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_05]: how much kids stocked you put into like it's just so funny.
- 1:07:39[SPEAKER_05]: I feel like it's the line up where everyone thinks you're going to win.
- 1:07:41[SPEAKER_05]: It's bam next to this.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_05]: What's this line up and you go out there and you you put crick a numbers all day long.
- 1:07:46[SPEAKER_04]: Jack, that's why exactly why I say like to the contrary of what I mentioned about overmanaging.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_04]: That's why it's probably so hard.
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_04]: for the lap to get set as much as it is because it doesn't ever perform the way that everyone thinks it's going.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:07:58[SPEAKER_04]: And I understand that that's part of a young team, but it really is that my biggest concern coming to the postseason.
- 1:08:02[SPEAKER_04]: Like this team has to find consistency.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's such an overused word and it's such a a word I throw it all the time with this team, but it's so important because on a hill Martinez is a perfect example too.
- 1:08:14[SPEAKER_04]: Like it feels like he goes in these hot streak to where he's smack on a home run.
- 1:08:17[SPEAKER_04]: three games in a row or getting a lead off double or lead off home run to put this team ahead and then he'll go quiet and swing and miss on the next 13 straight at bats you know what I mean and it's that's what it comes down to with this team if if they can find a groove at the right time they're going to be great all I want to see at the end of the day for with where this team dot right now is competitive baseball.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not asking them to go out and win the world series, and I don't think anyone is in right now, right?
- 1:08:39[SPEAKER_04]: With the impending lockout in 2027, I don't think you can, and with where this seems at, I don't think you can, but what you're asking for is give guys like Bazana, like Delauder, like anyone else that the front office believes is a future staple of this organization, give them regular, every day at bats, find consistency with them in the lineup and the situations at the end, and then build from there.
- 1:09:00[SPEAKER_06]: talk about Joe Adele and talk about what he's meant to this team since the trade deadline and being a part of that research and for research and for the Cleveland Guardians.
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and Joe Adele you said yes.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Adele has just been, I mean, wow, could you have asked for a better grab at the deadline?
- 1:09:17[SPEAKER_04]: I mentioned this yesterday on on on on social media.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_04]: I said, Joe Adele felt like he was a Cleveland Guardian a long time ago.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_04]: like the way he plays, the way he carries himself, he fits the molding Cleveland.
- 1:09:27[SPEAKER_04]: He's not allowed guys, not a obnoxious guy, but he's this perfect middle ground of a guy who's quiet, knows his role, knows what he brings to this team.
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_04]: The clubhouse has loved him.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_04]: When he first came in, he said he felt infected by the energy of the young guys, and he felt infected by the aspect of this team knowing they're opposed to using contender.
- 1:09:45[SPEAKER_04]: And obviously, they're in a situation where they're playing meaningful baseball on July, and that's the first time in his career, he's felt that.
- 1:09:50[SPEAKER_04]: So this is an exciting part of the year, and I'm super excited to see how I dealt plays if we get to this postseason run.
- 1:09:56[SPEAKER_08]: Kate, how important is it to you in your opinion, if at all, that the Guardians win the division rather than getting into the wild card?
- 1:10:03[SPEAKER_08]: And obviously, I'm referring to home field advantage, because on one hand, you'd say, well, normally that's huge, you get the crowd in front of you, you have young guys that probably prefer to play at home, get the juice up.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_08]: But then, well, you go ahead and look at the record at home.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_08]: It's 38 and 40, meanwhile, they play better, 40 and 35 away.
- 1:10:19[SPEAKER_08]: So again, is it important if at all, that they win the division rather than just slipping in with the wild card?
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_05]: quick.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_05]: I wanted to add on to that.
- 1:10:25[SPEAKER_05]: How excited are you if they get that because if you look at if you look at your breath like do a little jole and party brackets how old you look at your route to the world series if you do get that by and what would it have to go through just Houston basically and then you're in the hell so I mean you're talking about
- 1:10:39[SPEAKER_04]: You're right there, man.
- 1:10:40[SPEAKER_04]: They're a fun team, man.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_04]: I think that you obviously want to have them at home, but I think that no matter where Cleveland plays, they're going to be in a fine situation.
- 1:10:47[SPEAKER_04]: They're not a team concerned about whether home or away.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_04]: I think you'd like to have them in Cleveland because they feed off that energy like we talked about.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_04]: Like Brian Rokio, I'm pretty sure all of his walk has to bet in Cleveland pretty much.
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_04]: seven in his career for this year all for this year have been in Cleveland.
- 1:10:59[SPEAKER_04]: So it just it makes such a difference in him coming up clutch in those moments and again too like you talk about those moments where he might have something happen the top of the 9th but in the bottom of the 9th in Cleveland there's just something different about it.
- 1:11:11[SPEAKER_04]: So I'd love to see this team be able to play that opportunity.
- 1:11:13[SPEAKER_04]: But
- 1:11:14[SPEAKER_04]: When it comes down to it in the postseason, we talk about how anything happens in baseball.
- 1:11:17[SPEAKER_04]: I believe that's true.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_04]: Some people don't.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_04]: But I think that for Cleveland and the young group that they are, they're not, they're not, it's hard to say, like, but Zana and DeLater and those guys to me, like, they don't have enough experience to wear playing at home or the road.
- 1:11:30[SPEAKER_04]: I feel like we'll affect their game as much as people might think it will.
- 1:11:33[SPEAKER_04]: So just making the postseason is kind of where I'm hanging my hat on right now in some capacity.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_08]: Okay, how good do you feel about the Cleveland Guardians chance to win the division then?
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_08]: Because let's look at the rest of their schedules.
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_08]: The Guardians obviously have this athletic series.
- 1:11:45[SPEAKER_08]: But then they have a good red socks team.
- 1:11:48[SPEAKER_08]: And then you can wrap it up playing a royal scene that plays has nothing to play for.
- 1:11:52[SPEAKER_08]: And then meanwhile, the white socks, they have a series beginning today with the Tigers.
- 1:11:55[SPEAKER_05]: Then they get the royals and they wrap up.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_05]: They start last night.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_05]: They won game one.
- 1:11:59[SPEAKER_05]: You're right.
- 1:11:59[SPEAKER_05]: I see that three to one.
- 1:12:00[SPEAKER_08]: And then they get a Rockies team who again is bad and has nothing to play for.
- 1:12:03[SPEAKER_08]: So how do you view the Guardians chance to win this division?
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's a it's a spot in the U where I I kind of think that every team knows what they're playing for and that's either knock a team off or get to the postseason right so you're going to get everyone's best no matter what situation that they're in this weekend athletics I'm going to go you know I'll just give you kind of like my thoughts on each series here so athletics I think the guardians win this to one The red socks it's such a question mark I I know you mentioned that the boss red socks series I just think it's so interesting to see.
- 1:12:30[SPEAKER_04]: What's going to happen there?
- 1:12:32[SPEAKER_04]: I go probably two one against Boston and then you kind of come back and you take on this royal squad and other indivisional opponent I think a sweep case see I think that you go back through these these final nine games I think you got to go seven and two or six and three and I think that's about the sweet spot for Cleveland
- 1:12:48[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, because if we tie, then we don't win the division.
- 1:12:50[SPEAKER_06]: Because obviously, they get a tie breaker, right?
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:12:53[SPEAKER_04]: So that's another reason why these games are so important.
- 1:12:56[SPEAKER_04]: And why I kind of wish, you know, if you could flip flop and you went on the road against Boston now, got that tough series out of the way, came, went on to the road against the Royals and then finished the year against the athletics, I'd be like, wow, this is a really strong finish of the year.
- 1:13:09[SPEAKER_04]: It's just very questionable with the final six games all being on the road against teams that, you know, the Red Talks, like I said, are a pretty strong team
- 1:13:18[SPEAKER_04]: Obviously they're in division, they just want to upset the guardians as chances of playing while the postseason.
- 1:13:23[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, I had written down before the show here, you got to go 6 and 3 or better.
- 1:13:26[SPEAKER_06]: Do you agree with that?
- 1:13:27[SPEAKER_06]: It sounds like 6 or 3 at better in order to be able to win this division.
- 1:13:30[SPEAKER_06]: You really need to probably go 7 and 2 like you were saying.
- 1:13:33[SPEAKER_04]: If you go anything lower than six and three, I'm very, very concerned about the spot in which they'll end up finishing with, to win the division, you're certainly right.
- 1:13:41[SPEAKER_04]: It has to be a six and three or seven and two mark, because I do think this series rattled the white socks a bit, whether or not they wanted it, but we saw that.
- 1:13:49[SPEAKER_04]: that that that blooper in the left field that kind of you know sparked things a bit for that white sock squad but then just too naturally when when you give up back to back come back like that that's a huge hit and and team is recognize that and the guardians recognize that we've seen a few times this year where Cleveland's gone on the road or they've had situations where they're up ahead and the bullpen blows it late and then they drop the next few games like I I think that
- 1:14:11[SPEAKER_04]: It cleavels in a spot right now where they can surge and the white socks really have to make up some ground and they're playing to rebuild confidence right now.
- 1:14:19[SPEAKER_08]: Kate, last one for me, give me Kate Crackis's perfect playoff game one line up who's starting what's one through nine and what's your position players looking like.
- 1:14:29[SPEAKER_04]: it's that's a tough one and this is going to be so incredibly controversial when I say it.
- 1:14:33[SPEAKER_04]: I'm going to start with the starting pitcher for game one of the postseason.
- 1:14:37[SPEAKER_04]: It's Tanner Bobby for me.
- 1:14:39[SPEAKER_05]: Wow.
- 1:14:40[SPEAKER_05]: Tanner Bobby.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_04]: Yes, I fully believe that.
- 1:14:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think that Tanner Bobby and the postseason's different and I think no matter what whether he gets you off on a good starter or a bad start to a series then you turn to park domestic and Gavin Williams from there.
- 1:14:52[SPEAKER_06]: You kept Kevin Williams number three and that's an order of all.
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_04]: So I meant just like that was I mean, I got it would be three.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_04]: There we can throw a meter back.
- 1:14:57[SPEAKER_04]: We can't throw a meter back.
- 1:14:58[SPEAKER_05]: We can't throw a meter back.
- 1:14:59[SPEAKER_08]: And we can't throw a meter back.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_08]: I love it.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_08]: Stick with your.
- 1:15:02[SPEAKER_04]: No, I am.
- 1:15:03[SPEAKER_04]: Man, it's it's Tanner Bobby.
- 1:15:04[SPEAKER_04]: It's me.
- 1:15:04[SPEAKER_04]: I think you started off with the guy that you trusted to open the year out.
- 1:15:08[SPEAKER_04]: He's been your so-called number one through what was about halfway through the year.
- 1:15:12[SPEAKER_04]: And then really turned to corner in the middle stages.
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_04]: It's fallen off a little bit here in the back half.
- 1:15:17[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Tanner Bobby, man.
- 1:15:18[SPEAKER_04]: I said I wrote an article that I'm Cleming Gardens and I saw a couple weeks back.
- 1:15:21[SPEAKER_04]: I think he's the ex-factor for the postseason for the pitching staff, whether it's the bullpen, the starters, whatever it is, Tanner Bobby.
- 1:15:26[SPEAKER_04]: And the way you give this guy a chance to go out there and play his best is by putting him out there in a confident situation as a coaching staff, saying you're not the one.
- 1:15:36[SPEAKER_08]: I have the number one.
- 1:15:37[SPEAKER_08]: All right, give me the rest, baby.
- 1:15:39[SPEAKER_04]: The starting lineup.
- 1:15:40[SPEAKER_04]: I think that's a that's a difficult spot.
- 1:15:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think one in the one.
- 1:15:43[SPEAKER_04]: I like one there I like Baz in the two spot.
- 1:15:45[SPEAKER_04]: I think he thrives in a spot like that I'd like to switch back to Hozy in three into Lauder and four I know it's been kind of that's really what it was at the beginning of the year and one button But then I initially got called up and Hozy's kind of moved in the two spot and a lot of the three I'd like to go back to like the the coin in the one
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_04]: the vasonetsu, hosey three, delater four, it's gonna get difficult from here.
- 1:16:06[SPEAKER_04]: Adell in the five.
- 1:16:08[SPEAKER_04]: In the six spot, I'm gonna go hin now.
- 1:16:10[SPEAKER_04]: In the seven spot, I will go, who's still available, Bailey, I'll go Bailey there and then I'm missing two, rocchio and low.
- 1:16:18[SPEAKER_04]: So maybe I'll flip, maybe I'll flip, hin now and low.
- 1:16:21[SPEAKER_04]: And then, yeah, I mean, I think that's your, that group, does that, you know what I mean?
- 1:16:25[SPEAKER_04]: That's the group that, whether or not they're in that order, that's the group you won out there in game one.
- 1:16:29[SPEAKER_05]: I could be great if he get if he so I call his cutter the straightener because it doesn't cut so I don't think it's fair to call the cutter If Tanner Bobby leaves a straightener over the middle and the first setting of game one of the playoffs, I'm gonna freak out.
- 1:16:41[SPEAKER_05]: It's you What if I'm right though?
- 1:16:43[SPEAKER_05]: What if they do?
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_05]: I hope you're right can I hope you I think I would love nothing more than to be wrong if you're right I seem to be good, you know if you're right.
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_04]: I'll tell you what that clip's gonna age like fine wine.
- 1:16:53[SPEAKER_04]: I know I think I think it's I think in full honesty goes Tanner Gavin Parker
- 1:16:58[SPEAKER_08]: Or if I think that they want to balance like the lefty righty matchup, I think you maybe go Tanner Parker Gavin, I'm curious to see what are you worried though people would cut I don't want to say obviously you don't care what the fans do nobody does they know what they're doing, but do you think what would that backlash be from fans if they do elect to do that and Tanner might be stinks up the joint.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_05]: I don't want to think about that, but it's a great question.
- 1:17:19[SPEAKER_05]: It's just so tough to put him first because when you have two guys who have been the model of consistency all year long and I understand that there's the lack of run support at times and that that Tanner vibe he has just is, I think he actually might lead the staff and quality starts to be honest with you, but like, when he's back on the raw end of the stick, so might he has, but like when you have two guys that are tracking it like a 95% okay, we're going to get a pretty solid start, it's just so tough for me to go to a
- 1:17:42[SPEAKER_05]: a guy who has a tendency to just give up the long ball.
- 1:17:44[SPEAKER_05]: That's it.
- 1:17:44[SPEAKER_05]: That's a thing.
- 1:17:44[SPEAKER_05]: No, do we saw last year in Game 3, the long ball can kill you in the playoffs more than anything else.
- 1:17:49[SPEAKER_05]: And I just don't want to put a guy who puts a butt, put it on a tee.
- 1:17:52[SPEAKER_05]: Have to time to beat out there.
- 1:17:53[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
- 1:17:55[SPEAKER_08]: Chris, your thoughts and then we're going to let Cade plug in.
- 1:17:58[SPEAKER_08]: Wrap up.
- 1:17:59[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm assuming in that scenario you have Angel Martinez basically to be a pinch hit or later on in the game.
- 1:18:05[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I think that's what you have to do either.
- 1:18:07[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe he starts over and now it depends on who the DH ends up being in this situation.
- 1:18:12[SPEAKER_04]: Actually, when when you say that, I am curious to see if they'll give an hour chance to you know start off the series strong because again, we talk about like, you know, wanting guys to get acclimated to the postseason or do you go Martinez in that situation?
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_04]: It's one of the two to me.
- 1:18:23[SPEAKER_05]: I like
- 1:18:24[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and yeah, I think that, you know, you'll maybe see like the Daniel Schneeman or something like that late in the game that David Fry, you know, Austin had just pinched I think what you want to do is strengthen off that that that that that that that bench and I think Starting now and having Martinez for when you need him put some in a good spot, but also to you know with both the lotter and Martinez being banged up at this point in the year you want to play both safe Um, and I don't know if playing both of them at the same time in the same game is is worthwhile
- 1:18:48[SPEAKER_05]: Kate, thank you for joining us as always.

- 1:20:59[SPEAKER_05]: Jack a rock alongside Ryan Tyler and Chris reflog.
- 1:21:01[SPEAKER_05]: But Neil, guys, it's time to put it on the record and make our predictions for what goes down in Cleveland sports this weekend.
- 1:21:08[SPEAKER_05]: Chris, starting out with you all the way down near the Columbus area, browns, buck and ears, can I get your score prediction?
- 1:21:14[SPEAKER_06]: down here in the Columbus area where the game will not be televised locally because you have the Steelers.
- 1:21:19[SPEAKER_06]: So it can't be a death of the season.
- 1:21:19[SPEAKER_06]: You see that doesn't happen until later on in the season.
- 1:21:21[SPEAKER_06]: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait
- 1:21:33[SPEAKER_06]: Yeah, that's what happens down here.
- 1:21:34[SPEAKER_06]: You get the Steelers.
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_06]: You get the bangles and the Browns get crowded out as soon as the Browns aren't playing well.
- 1:21:39[SPEAKER_06]: And usually that happens later on in the season.
- 1:21:41[SPEAKER_06]: It doesn't happen this early in the season week two.
- 1:21:44[SPEAKER_06]: Usually you're talking about week 14, week 15, I have to start checking to make sure that the game's going to be shown locally.
- 1:21:51[SPEAKER_06]: But this week, week two, we set a new record.
- 1:21:54[SPEAKER_06]: The Browns are already bounced off of the Columbus stations around here, so I'm going to have to find
- 1:21:59[SPEAKER_06]: to watch the game.
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_06]: I'm not buying NFL Sunday ticket for my Cleveland Browns this year.
- 1:22:03[SPEAKER_06]: They're just simply not worth it.
- 1:22:05[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm going to be at a B-dubs.
- 1:22:06[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to be at three Tigers here locally.
- 1:22:08[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to be somewhere, but I am not going to be buying that Sunday ticket to watch these god awful Browns right now.
- 1:22:14[SPEAKER_08]: Chris, so that will be a final score.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_06]: A real quick are there.
- 1:22:16[SPEAKER_08]: Are there more bangles and sealers fans in Columbus than Browns?
- 1:22:20[SPEAKER_06]: Still more Browns.
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_06]: It's still more Browns, but you get a lot of bangles fans and you do have a ton of Steelers fans.
- 1:22:26[SPEAKER_06]: You really do, but it's still more Browns.
- 1:22:28[SPEAKER_06]: They tried a couple of years ago when the Browns were right there on the outside of the playoffs.
- 1:22:32[SPEAKER_06]: They tried switching one of these games and I got everybody on social media to call into 10 TV and they actually changed it.
- 1:22:38[SPEAKER_06]: they changed it back to the Browns.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_06]: So you could tell there's a ground swell of Browns fans here and I think overall in Columbus you're going to have more Browns fans.
- 1:22:45[SPEAKER_06]: But it's a lot closer than what you think with both the Bengals as well as the Steelers.
- 1:22:49[SPEAKER_06]: I hate to say it.
- 1:22:50[SPEAKER_06]: You've got a lot of Steelers fans.
- 1:22:52[SPEAKER_06]: Chris, didn't he?
- 1:22:52[SPEAKER_06]: I could be wrong with this, but wasn't there a period of time when Jimmy has them was trying to play preseason games in Columbus for the Browns?
- 1:22:58[SPEAKER_06]: he wanted to come down here and play some at the shoe and he tried to actually build a facility down here so that they could play some of these preseason games so he could capture more of the Columbus market.
- 1:23:08[SPEAKER_06]: He did that.
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_06]: Oh man, it's probably seven, eight years ago now.
- 1:23:12[SPEAKER_06]: Maybe even longer.
- 1:23:13[SPEAKER_06]: I remember that because everybody in Cleveland got very upset that he was
- 1:23:16[SPEAKER_06]: is trying to hire a team quote on quote down south to Columbus when he was just trying to expand his market.
- 1:23:22[SPEAKER_06]: I think and capture some of what he's lost in Columbus because this used to be very firmly browned country, but now it's been divided up.
- 1:23:29[SPEAKER_08]: All right, Chris.
- 1:23:30[SPEAKER_08]: Tell me why the Browns are gonna win Sunday.
- 1:23:32[SPEAKER_06]: What?
- 1:23:33[SPEAKER_06]: No, no, no, no, no, no, I did that last week.
- 1:23:36[SPEAKER_06]: That stick is done.
- 1:23:37[SPEAKER_06]: I saw that team on Sunday.
- 1:23:39[SPEAKER_06]: There's no way I could say the Browns are gonna win.
- 1:23:42[SPEAKER_06]: I would love to be able to sit here and say, hey, what we saw in that first game was a complete anomaly that's not what this team is about, but guys, that is what this team is about.
- 1:23:52[SPEAKER_06]: Even at the top end, I was worried about the defense for depth.
- 1:23:54[SPEAKER_06]: I'm worried about the defense on top end right now.
- 1:23:58[SPEAKER_06]: That offense can't move the ball to Sean Watson's a disaster.
- 1:24:02[SPEAKER_06]: I see the Browns playing a little bit better.
- 1:24:03[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm going to give it a 24-10 right now.
- 1:24:05[SPEAKER_06]: I'm going to say the Browns score one touchdown.
- 1:24:08[SPEAKER_06]: Eek out one field goal, Baker looks pretty good.
- 1:24:11[SPEAKER_06]: But the defense is able to keep a little bit more under wraps than what we did in week one, Browns lose 24-10.
- 1:24:17[SPEAKER_08]: Nice.
- 1:24:17[SPEAKER_08]: I'm very similar.
- 1:24:18[SPEAKER_08]: I'm going browns loose 27 to 7.
- 1:24:21[SPEAKER_08]: I actually feel really good about that score unless Todd Munkin decides to kick a field goal down three scores in the second half again.
- 1:24:27[SPEAKER_05]: See, I was gonna Chris.
- 1:24:28[SPEAKER_05]: I was actually right there with you.
- 1:24:29[SPEAKER_05]: I was gonna say 24 to 10, but then I realized 24 to 10 probably isn't bad enough for Deshawn Watson to not start week three at home.
- 1:24:38[SPEAKER_05]: But I do think the Rudy defense will play better.
- 1:24:40[SPEAKER_05]: So give me 24 nothing.
- 1:24:41[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think we put a point on the board down there by the pirate ship.
- 1:24:45[SPEAKER_05]: So I think we come home in the restaurant week three.
- 1:24:48[SPEAKER_06]: So no 400 yards or five touchdowns, not five, not four, not three, not two, not one.
- 1:24:56[SPEAKER_06]: You got zero touchdowns for Deshawn Watson.
- 1:24:59[SPEAKER_06]: Boy, the media is not going to be very happy.
- 1:25:01[SPEAKER_06]: Are they?
- 1:25:01[SPEAKER_05]: And then I got two more questions for you guys before we get on out of here.
- 1:25:05[SPEAKER_05]: Guardians weekend prediction.
- 1:25:06[SPEAKER_05]: How many games do the guards win Chris?
- 1:25:08[SPEAKER_06]: I'm not saying a word on this one.
- 1:25:10[SPEAKER_06]: Every time I put a guardians prediction out there, I've completely jinxed them.
- 1:25:15[SPEAKER_06]: So I'm not going to say good or bad.
- 1:25:16[SPEAKER_06]: I'm just going to say go guardians.
- 1:25:18[SPEAKER_08]: All right.
- 1:25:18[SPEAKER_08]: I'll say they win or excuse me.
- 1:25:19[SPEAKER_08]: They lose the first game today.
- 1:25:20[SPEAKER_08]: Kind of like how they did with Chicago.
- 1:25:22[SPEAKER_08]: Everyone panics and then they win the next two.
- 1:25:25[SPEAKER_05]: I can see a sneaky down weekend, but then no one expects someone to go to Boston and go on its hair.
- 1:25:29[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to give you a one-in-two weekend went out and the playoffs on a friggin here and the city's ready to go when the division right when I think we talking about that happens I'm going to jump off the bridge if they win seven in a row, go to the playoffs.
- 1:25:46[SPEAKER_05]: Well, why?
- 1:25:48[SPEAKER_06]: because this weekend's going to be brutal again, and they'll be back to back brutal weekends.
- 1:25:52[SPEAKER_06]: I don't know if I could take it after Ohio State.
- 1:25:53[SPEAKER_06]: I'm really curious about all the guardians then what the Browns are eventually going to do.
- 1:25:57[SPEAKER_06]: Hey, I know Ohio State's going to roll Ken State.
- 1:26:00[SPEAKER_06]: Sorry for all you Ken State folks.
- 1:26:02[SPEAKER_06]: That's going to happen on Saturday.
- 1:26:03[SPEAKER_06]: So that's going to be okay.
- 1:26:05[SPEAKER_06]: But man, oh man, if we cannot beat the Lousy A's and we go down and only win one of three at home, my god, man, Jack, I can't survive there.
- 1:26:15[SPEAKER_05]: Alright guys, last question before we get out of here for the weekend.
- 1:26:18[SPEAKER_05]: What answer from today's guest, positive or negative?
- 1:26:22[SPEAKER_05]: Most change how you see Cleveland's weekend ahead in sports.
- 1:26:25[SPEAKER_08]: I'll tell you what, I don't know about most changed because again, this is something that we've all kind of already known and it's been established, but just Jason coming on and talking about Jimmy Haslam, right?
- 1:26:34[SPEAKER_08]: Like, it's nice to hear a national view on it, a guy who has plugged in because we can get colored glasses sometimes with our Cleveland Browns, but I thought it was pretty eye-opening.
- 1:26:42[SPEAKER_08]: He didn't even hesitate.
- 1:26:43[SPEAKER_08]: He doesn't think the Browns will ever be successful under Jimmy Haslam, and I don't have a really a reason to believe that he's wrong.
- 1:26:50[SPEAKER_06]: And how about the fact that GMs are on the league?
- 1:26:52[SPEAKER_06]: There's at least one GM who said that Jimmy has them as playing Dishon Watson, so he can get the insurance money for when he gets hurt.
- 1:26:59[SPEAKER_06]: Wow, you go from fan conspiracy theories to an actual NFL GM telling him that.
- 1:27:05[SPEAKER_06]: That to me was wild, and that tells you what the league thinks of our Cleveland Browns in our ownership right now.
- 1:27:11[SPEAKER_06]: So that one really hurt me in the gut.
- 1:27:13[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, just seeing an NFL quarterback stand up there and say that our quarterback sucks.
- 1:27:17[SPEAKER_05]: That, that, that, that'll always go, that'll go, that, I believe was the exact where that'll always do it to you.
- 1:27:22[SPEAKER_05]: Thank you guys so much for tuning into the Big Play Cleveland Show.
- 1:27:24[SPEAKER_05]: Remember that we're live every Monday through Friday from noon all the way up to 130.
