- 1:40Speaker 1: of this episode, but first let's just do a very
- 1:42Speaker 1: quick rundown to some of the lead cast members. Okay,
- 1:45Speaker 1: we'll talk more about us we meet them. Okay, First up,
- 1:48Speaker 1: we have Andy McDowell, she plays Dell, the grandma. We
- 1:52Speaker 1: have Citie laflam Snow as Alice talk about great Oh
- 1:57Speaker 1: my god, she was so gosh the irol Oh I've
- 2:01Speaker 1: as a mother of an almost fifteen year old, felt
- 2:05Speaker 1: this deeply. Yes. We also have Kyler Lee as Cat
- 2:12Speaker 1: the adult Cat. Yes, playing Elliot Augustine. We have Evan
- 2:15Speaker 1: Williams and finally playing Dad. Is it Brady? Is it
- 2:21Speaker 1: Braydon Dewan, al McAdam macadam voice memosiall send us a voice.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Let's start with a synopsis of season one, episode one
- 2:34Speaker 1: of the Way Home, entitled Mothers and Daughters. Cat and
- 2:39Speaker 1: teen daughter Alice move in with estranged grandma Dell. Escaping
- 2:44Speaker 1: the tension, Alice explores the farm and finds herself on
- 2:48Speaker 1: a surprising journey. Hey, I think that synopsis nails it.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It does, Yeah, it definitely does. I have a question
- 2:55Speaker 1: for you, Okay, would you consider time travel to be
- 2:59Speaker 1: a science fiction trope? Yes? I would, Oh, yes, I would.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And honestly, was like when I saw the previews of
- 3:06Speaker 1: this show when it first came out, I didn't know
- 3:10Speaker 1: it was time travel. So I got to tell you,
- 3:12Speaker 1: I'm a little hesitant because I don't like time travel stories. Okay.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I don't know why, because it falls into the sci
- 3:23Speaker 1: fi genre for me, which Wendy is not a fan of,
- 3:26Speaker 1: not a fan of. But I'm going to put that
- 3:29Speaker 1: aside for now, just because I like where this story
- 3:34Speaker 1: is going. All right. So this episode opens with what
- 3:38Speaker 1: I feel is a real strong horror movie vibe. Oh yeah, right,
- 3:42Speaker 1: We've got an unidentified woman running through the woods being
- 3:48Speaker 1: chased by men with torches. Yeah in eighteen fourteen New Brunswick.
- 3:52Speaker 1: If I wanted to know, who's that woman? Who are
- 3:54Speaker 1: these men? Where is she going? And then she leaps
- 3:59Speaker 1: over a log, hesitates, and then jumps right in. Yes,
- 4:05Speaker 1: let me stop you right there, I swear, And I
- 4:07Speaker 1: watched this twice I swear she says something before she
- 4:12Speaker 1: jumps in, but I couldn't hear her, and there was
- 4:15Speaker 1: of course I watching I'm watching it with captions, there
- 4:18Speaker 1: was nothing there. Okay, so I don't know if I'm
- 4:20Speaker 1: like making that up. But what did she say? I
- 4:24Speaker 1: don't know. I have to imagine we have to come
- 4:27Speaker 1: back to this moment at some point, this eighteen fourteen moment.
- 4:31Speaker 1: We don't hear anything else about this time period in
- 4:34Speaker 1: this episode, but I'm hoping we find out. I assume
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's Alice. Oh but how far back did she go?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Is this a relative of Alice? We have these women
- 4:45Speaker 1: been time traveling this whole time? You're out there alive time. Yes,
- 4:49Speaker 1: And she's it appears to be in pajamas some sort
- 4:54Speaker 1: of like yeah, like a little tiny yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I think there's a lot that sets the scene at
- 4:59Speaker 1: like the men with a fleaming torches and what she's wearing.
- 5:04Speaker 1: All that very and it touches on it later, but
- 5:08Speaker 1: it's very like Scarlet Letter or Salem Witch, Salem Witch Trials. Yeah,
- 5:13Speaker 1: so what's going on here? I don't know. I'm excited
- 5:16Speaker 1: to find out more. Same and we jumped straight from
- 5:18Speaker 1: there to present day Minnesota. We've got a dude with
- 5:21Speaker 1: a guitar around stage. They got a nervous looking girl
- 5:23Speaker 1: standing off stage. She takes the stage, Yeah, freaks out, Yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and runs off stage. Yes. Well, she sees her dad
- 5:31Speaker 1: like texting, like he's not paying attention, you know, But
- 5:35Speaker 1: what's funny is that? And again I'm jumping ahead just
- 5:38Speaker 1: a little bit. But her mom tells her, like you
- 5:40Speaker 1: slayed that last year, So what happened? Why is Alice
- 5:44Speaker 1: now freaking out? Because remember the boy comes off the
- 5:47Speaker 1: stage or no, she I'm sorry. Alice comes off the stage,
- 5:50Speaker 1: runs off the stage before she pulls the fire alarm,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and he says, I knew you were just the one
- 5:55Speaker 1: hit wonder. So like what happened? Yes? Yeah? When did
- 5:59Speaker 1: she her mojo? Yeah? I hope we get more backstory,
- 6:03Speaker 1: and I hope we get the backstory in flashbacks. You know,
- 6:09Speaker 1: don't tell me about it. I want to not exposition. Yes,
- 6:12Speaker 1: I agree, yes, yes, next scene and I there's a
- 6:15Speaker 1: lot happening in this first episode because there's so much
- 6:19Speaker 1: set up. I'm gonna tell you right now. I felt
- 6:20Speaker 1: like it was done really well. Me too. Pilots are tough,
- 6:24Speaker 1: but our next scene, We've got what we will come
- 6:27Speaker 1: to find out are Alice's parents, Kat and Braiden arguing,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and we find out that they are no longer together.
- 6:36Speaker 1: We don't find out in this scene that they're not
- 6:39Speaker 1: actually divorced, but at one point the principle refers to
- 6:43Speaker 1: Kat as Braden's wife and they both respond ex wife,
- 6:46Speaker 1: So we know that they are not together and they're
- 6:50Speaker 1: kind of playing the blame game a little bit totally.
- 6:52Speaker 1: We also learn that Kat has recently been fired yes,
- 6:57Speaker 1: from a job that she loves, yes and well. In
- 7:00Speaker 1: the same scene, we learned that Alice has now been
- 7:02Speaker 1: expelled from school for pulling the fire alarm. This appears
- 7:06Speaker 1: to not be the first incident at school. She's kind
- 7:09Speaker 1: of a rebel or they do say, like she's hanging
- 7:13Speaker 1: out with a different crowd this year. The dad jokes
- 7:16Speaker 1: once he learns that Cat is not working, he goes, oh,
- 7:19Speaker 1: it looks like you'll have time for homeschooling. And I
- 7:22Speaker 1: was like, oh, I was gonna punch this kuy in
- 7:24Speaker 1: of face. My blood boiled, right, that's that moment, And
- 7:28Speaker 1: what we know seconds later in that scene is they
- 7:31Speaker 1: don't live together anymore, so how is she going to
- 7:33Speaker 1: support herself and stay home and not work and homeschool
- 7:37Speaker 1: this child? Yeah, I don't know. Come on, I really
- 7:40Speaker 1: had a visceral reaction to oh, now, you can just
- 7:42Speaker 1: take this on yourself. Seriously, I am like, no points
- 7:47Speaker 1: for this guy already. I mean the fact that he
- 7:50Speaker 1: was like texting during when his daughter comes on stage
- 7:53Speaker 1: like that is a highlight of me. To see my
- 7:56Speaker 1: kid do something, I would be dude, there's no way.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yeah ooh, meaning so mad. In this exchange, we find
- 8:05Speaker 1: out that Rachel, who apparently is his girlfriend, has moved in.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Now I was surprised to find out later in this
- 8:13Speaker 1: episode that they're not even divorced and he's already moved
- 8:15Speaker 1: his new girlfriend. No points from me. They do arrive
- 8:18Speaker 1: to what I believe to be Kat's home and Alice's
- 8:22Speaker 1: throwing a party, I mean, just right in the holiday
- 8:26Speaker 1: like and has the audacity when her parents kick everybody
- 8:29Speaker 1: out to go Are you serious? Right? Oh my god?
- 8:33Speaker 1: This has been like the parent in me with like
- 8:36Speaker 1: my head would explode. These people at my home during
- 8:39Speaker 1: the day, not giving a care to like music's playing,
- 8:45Speaker 1: foods everywhere. I'm assuming they're drinking too. She doesn't even
- 8:48Speaker 1: have the good sense to like be worried about being
- 8:50Speaker 1: in trouble. She's just angry that they've ruined her foot.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It's just like middle fingers up to her parents, like
- 8:56Speaker 1: she does not care, especially on the heels of committee
- 9:00Speaker 1: a crime and writing expelled from school? So did are
- 9:03Speaker 1: we to assume like she pulled the fire alarm and
- 9:05Speaker 1: then busted out of there, because wouldn't she be arrested
- 9:09Speaker 1: for something? I don't know? Is it a crime like
- 9:12Speaker 1: that to pull a fere? It is? And they address
- 9:14Speaker 1: that in the conversation with the principal, And because the
- 9:18Speaker 1: mom says it's not a crime to stay tried, isn't
- 9:20Speaker 1: a crime and she says no, but pulling a fire
- 9:22Speaker 1: alarm is and it comes with a hefty fine as well. Well.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I thought that best part of that scene when they
- 9:30Speaker 1: arrived home and Alice's having the party is where Kat
- 9:34Speaker 1: like looks this dude up and down and it's like, really,
- 9:38Speaker 1: this guy, he's like this full emo looking dude. Yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 1: the full cliche wrong crowd, Yes, that's totally and then
- 9:48Speaker 1: dad really bat in a thousand bails dude. I wrote
- 9:51Speaker 1: on my notes GTFO this guy. He's just like, Okay,
- 9:55Speaker 1: you're gonna handle this. I'm out of here, gotta go
- 9:57Speaker 1: shack up with Rachel. Now He's like, I got a
- 10:00Speaker 1: busy day at work tomorrow. It's still light out, sid, dude,
- 10:03Speaker 1: stay here and parent. God gross, And then Alice and
- 10:07Speaker 1: Kat and get into it. Yeah, And in the scene,
- 10:11Speaker 1: she says to Alice, I'm worried that you were making
- 10:15Speaker 1: the same mistakes I made at your age. And I
- 10:18Speaker 1: was like, that's super interesting because I only caught that
- 10:21Speaker 1: on the rewatch and we get to it later. But
- 10:26Speaker 1: Kat seems like a pretty good kid. What mistakes did
- 10:29Speaker 1: she make? It? Yeah? Anyway, Well, I think Alice's response
- 10:34Speaker 1: to that is, oh, now I'm a mistake. So I
- 10:36Speaker 1: suspect that perhaps she got pregnant young. Oh maybe we
- 10:42Speaker 1: don't know yet. I don't know. Kat's angry at Alice.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I didn't love her response, like, why are you throwing
- 10:49Speaker 1: your gift away? I feel like in this moment, her
- 10:51Speaker 1: daughter clearly had something going on. She had stage right,
- 10:54Speaker 1: she ran off stage, and the mom is reacting she's
- 10:58Speaker 1: angry with her for that. There's a lot to be
- 11:01Speaker 1: angry about. Yeah, but I feel like, you know, that's
- 11:05Speaker 1: not We're not mad at our kid for freaking out
- 11:08Speaker 1: on stage. No. No, So that's why I think like
- 11:12Speaker 1: something has happened in the past year. Is it just
- 11:17Speaker 1: the divorce or the separation, Like what's going on? Because
- 11:21Speaker 1: obviously Alice wasn't like on track or very much into
- 11:25Speaker 1: music or whatever, and stop doing that. But because why yes,
- 11:31Speaker 1: And then of course Alice is mad that her mom
- 11:32Speaker 1: wasn't there. Yeah, next scene, Kat has a glass of wine.
- 11:36Speaker 1: She's at a desk, and she's opening a letter from
- 11:38Speaker 1: her mother asking her to come home with a family
- 11:41Speaker 1: photo included. That was weird, right, It felt emotionally manipulative,
- 11:47Speaker 1: particularly knowing we're gonna find out about this family right shortly, right,
- 11:53Speaker 1: And I honestly was shocked that they get right through it.
- 11:55Speaker 1: They don't beat her on the bush. Kat calls her mom.
- 11:58Speaker 1: I was shocked. I would have like sat on that
- 12:00Speaker 1: letter for like two weeks before deciding what to do.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I like that the story moves forward quickly because I
- 12:05Speaker 1: think there would have been more of a like, we
- 12:08Speaker 1: know that she's in a situation where she needs a job.
- 12:11Speaker 1: She isn't going to be able to stay here, so
- 12:13Speaker 1: is just have one and they cut right to it. Yeah.
- 12:15Speaker 1: I mean I guess like, if you're feeling desperate, you're
- 12:17Speaker 1: gonna make desperate decisions, right, and if that means moving
- 12:21Speaker 1: back home. And then we have one of the most
- 12:24Speaker 1: what I thought, beautiful scenes in the episode. We cut
- 12:28Speaker 1: to them driving home and we get what might be
- 12:33Speaker 1: the opening credit song. Yeah, I'm not sure. It's called
- 12:36Speaker 1: down by the Water by Abigail Lapel. It's a perfect
- 12:41Speaker 1: song for the show, right, It's kind of haunting, it's
- 12:46Speaker 1: talking about water. I don't know. Yeah, it talks about daughter,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and I think it's it's really gives me like Gilmore
- 12:55Speaker 1: girls vibes with that opening song. And we get it
- 12:57Speaker 1: again in the closing credit, so we will find out
- 13:00Speaker 1: if this is in fact, Yeah, because we didn't get
- 13:02Speaker 1: like a proper like opening, correct. So yeah, I'm curious
- 13:07Speaker 1: to see how how it opens next week and we
- 13:11Speaker 1: find out accordneed Alice they're moving to middle of nowhere, Canada.
- 13:15Speaker 1: It looks beautiful to me. It does look beautiful. I
- 13:17Speaker 1: would have loved to live on this big farm, yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: but not as a teenager. No. You ripped away from
- 13:24Speaker 1: your friends and your school, and there's obviously things going
- 13:27Speaker 1: on with your parents, your father. But yes, it was gorgeous.
- 13:31Speaker 1: If you told me you have to go live here,
- 13:33Speaker 1: I'd be like, great, sign me up. Yeah, that's my
- 13:36Speaker 1: forty seven year old dream. Yes. Oh and then as
- 13:40Speaker 1: they're driving into town, we see Welcome to Port Haven,
- 13:42Speaker 1: so we know we are back at the scene of
- 13:45Speaker 1: the opening of the show. Yes, we also learned in
- 13:49Speaker 1: the scene that Kat has lost her brother. This is
- 13:53Speaker 1: a conversation between Cat and Alice, and and Alice says
- 13:57Speaker 1: something to the effect of like, I can't believe you
- 14:00Speaker 1: were so young when you lost your brother, And it
- 14:03Speaker 1: was basically that she's been gone and has been gone
- 14:06Speaker 1: for some time. Yes, she does talk about being gone
- 14:09Speaker 1: for twenty years. Yeah, because you know, Alice is like,
- 14:12Speaker 1: if this place is so great, why did it take
- 14:14Speaker 1: you twenty years to come Exactly exactly any mcdale greets
- 14:17Speaker 1: h at the door, and quite frankly, she's perfection to
- 14:20Speaker 1: me in this scene. I just love her. And what
- 14:23Speaker 1: I really love is she asks if they'd like to
- 14:27Speaker 1: go on a tour, and Kat's like, I got to
- 14:29Speaker 1: get settled in, and she goes, You're not invited, And
- 14:30Speaker 1: I think there's something really special about a grandparent grandchild relationship.
- 14:35Speaker 1: There's something about taking the element of parental responsibility out
- 14:41Speaker 1: and grandparents can kind of have that bond with their grandchildren.
- 14:45Speaker 1: And we'll come to find out that Dell is not
- 14:49Speaker 1: without her relationship flaw. Sure, she's not always going to
- 14:53Speaker 1: be warm to Alice, Yeah, but she does try and
- 14:56Speaker 1: draw her in pretty quickly. I agree. I think Andy
- 14:59Speaker 1: mc else just fantastic. Like, I just think she's perfect
- 15:04Speaker 1: for this role. I love that she's just natural, like
- 15:10Speaker 1: her beautiful, like natural gray hair gray, and she just
- 15:14Speaker 1: looks like she has aged beautifully. I just really it's
- 15:18Speaker 1: just a perfect role for her. It's such a good
- 15:21Speaker 1: get perfect perfect. So while Alice and Della off on
- 15:25Speaker 1: the tour, we see that kat is, you know, walking
- 15:29Speaker 1: through her childhood home and having like these flashbacks. We
- 15:32Speaker 1: don't totally see like her or her brother who has passed,
- 15:37Speaker 1: but we see like elements of a home that used
- 15:42Speaker 1: to be lively with younger children. And then she sees
- 15:47Speaker 1: like the pictures on the mantle and it's just the Dell,
- 15:52Speaker 1: like there's nothing there to represent like once was. Yes,
- 15:56Speaker 1: Stamley photos have been replaced, Yeah, which is we knew
- 16:00Speaker 1: this was all coming anyway, because they had been in
- 16:02Speaker 1: the like previews for weeks and weeks and weeks, you know,
- 16:05Speaker 1: when Kyler yells at Kyler, when Kat yells at Dell
- 16:08Speaker 1: for saying, like you've there's no pictures here, So we
- 16:12Speaker 1: knew this was coming. And cut back to Grandma and Alice,
- 16:16Speaker 1: and Alice is sorely as hell when Grandma says someday
- 16:18Speaker 1: this farm might be hers, and Alice is like, I'm
- 16:21Speaker 1: not much of a farmer, right, just just be quiet.
- 16:24Speaker 1: She just you know, you can fully appreciate the teenager
- 16:28Speaker 1: in her that she does not know when to shut
- 16:29Speaker 1: up announced dinnertime and Delle wants to know what they're
- 16:32Speaker 1: gonna do. She gets right into it, what do younna
- 16:34Speaker 1: do while you're here? And I'm gosh, there, you know,
- 16:38Speaker 1: the maternal vibe that take a minute and recover and
- 16:43Speaker 1: find your footing wasn't there. And I really wanted that
- 16:48Speaker 1: for Kat. You wanted her to be like, settle in,
- 16:50Speaker 1: figure it out. Yeah, we got you. But no, she's like,
- 16:54Speaker 1: you're gonna get a job plan us landry women have planned,
- 16:58Speaker 1: and she's not on board with Kat's plan to write
- 17:00Speaker 1: a book. Yeah, that was kind of funny because I
- 17:03Speaker 1: was like, what does Kat have to write about? Are
- 17:05Speaker 1: we talking novels? Are we talking what like what life
- 17:08Speaker 1: on the farm? Or life experience as a reporter? Maybe
- 17:12Speaker 1: just because she's a good writer, Yeah, but why wouldn't
- 17:14Speaker 1: Dell support that? Though? Well, I think Dell's a very
- 17:20Speaker 1: practical woman Oka, and so writing a book, there's not
- 17:24Speaker 1: a clear path from beginning to financial success. Okay, you
- 17:30Speaker 1: can write a book and you at the end you
- 17:33Speaker 1: have a book, but you don't necessarily have income, you
- 17:35Speaker 1: don't necessarily have a job. For her, she wants you
- 17:37Speaker 1: go get a job and now you're going to get
- 17:39Speaker 1: a paycheck every two weeks. Yeah. What was the place
- 17:41Speaker 1: that she was saying that they were hiring? The point?
- 17:44Speaker 1: What is the point? Is it a wrestler? I think
- 17:47Speaker 1: it's actually is it where the cafe where they find Alice? Later,
- 17:51Speaker 1: Alice wants to finish out the school you're online. Dell
- 17:54Speaker 1: is not a fan of that plan. And not only
- 17:56Speaker 1: is she not a fan of that plan, she points
- 17:58Speaker 1: out all the reasons why it's not going to work.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Because internet is spotty at the farm, She's gonna have
- 18:02Speaker 1: to go in down work at the library and Alice
- 18:04Speaker 1: just gets in. Yeah. I was surprised, like how easy
- 18:07Speaker 1: she gave in, and she was like, fine, we'll start
- 18:09Speaker 1: school tomorrow then. Yeah, and good news, Dell has already
- 18:12Speaker 1: registered her. This woman works fast, Yeah she does. She
- 18:16Speaker 1: definitely does. I love how kind of like gruff she is,
- 18:22Speaker 1: Like she's not warm and fuzzy. She is not. And
- 18:26Speaker 1: it's kind of in contrast because when we later on
- 18:29Speaker 1: see some flashback episodes when when the kids are younger,
- 18:33Speaker 1: doesn't she seem a lot like lighter, lighter, Yeah, softer
- 18:38Speaker 1: around the edges, and knowing what little we know, it's
- 18:42Speaker 1: not terribly surprising. I know she's been hardened by life,
- 18:46Speaker 1: exactly exactly. We cut to Alice in her mom's old
- 18:51Speaker 1: room and she's texting and she's unhappy, and she drops
- 18:55Speaker 1: her phone and she finds the program from her grandfather's funeral. Yes, now,
- 19:01Speaker 1: did you notice the year that he died? I did not,
- 19:04Speaker 1: nineteen ninety nine, two thousand. That will be important momentarily,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I think so. I think it's important. Yes, I agree,
- 19:11Speaker 1: because it's going to establish the timeline of like things
- 19:14Speaker 1: that happen, and they just happened pretty quickly yes, okay,
- 19:17Speaker 1: And then we cut back to the kitchen. Cat and
- 19:19Speaker 1: Dell are having a conversation, and this is where we
- 19:21Speaker 1: discovered that they're not divorced. But Kat says the separation
- 19:24Speaker 1: is at this point permanent because his girlfriend has moved in.
- 19:26Speaker 1: This is the moment I was shocked, kind of Dick
- 19:29Speaker 1: moved to move your girlfriend in before you're even divorced. Yeah,
- 19:31Speaker 1: even it seemed like before they were moving forward with
- 19:35Speaker 1: divorce proceeding right if they had been separated at that point.
- 19:38Speaker 1: But then we get some interesting news. Dal didn't actually
- 19:42Speaker 1: send the letter. She seems shocked when Kat thanks her
- 19:44Speaker 1: for the letter, and thought Kat reaching out was the
- 19:47Speaker 1: first step. I was like, don't they have like a
- 19:50Speaker 1: conversation at all, like prior to this, And I wonder
- 19:55Speaker 1: if Kat called Dell and was like, I need to
- 19:58Speaker 1: come home. Oh maybe she just assumed that Belle knew
- 20:02Speaker 1: that it was in response to her letter, but Delle
- 20:04Speaker 1: just thought she was reaching out. So who sent the letter? Now?
- 20:08Speaker 1: Delle does accuse Elliott. Shortly, Yes, we got to a
- 20:13Speaker 1: seen that I thought was pretty heartbreaking, and that is
- 20:16Speaker 1: Alice begging her dad to let her come home and
- 20:19Speaker 1: while I think she's been in a complete pain in
- 20:20Speaker 1: the ass about this entire episode, I also do understand
- 20:24Speaker 1: that she'd want to go home. Yeah, and she wants
- 20:26Speaker 1: to be wanted by her dad. She wants her dad
- 20:28Speaker 1: to want her to come home. YEA, really what she wants? Yeah,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and he says no. And what would you do in
- 20:34Speaker 1: that situation? Hypothetically if you and your husband were separated
- 20:40Speaker 1: and you took your children somewhere and they wanted to
- 20:45Speaker 1: go live with dad, would you want dad to support
- 20:50Speaker 1: you in taking the children away or would you be
- 20:55Speaker 1: mad at dad for not offering up a place for them. Well,
- 20:59Speaker 1: here's where my practical side comes in is there's got
- 21:01Speaker 1: to be some sort of like legal custody situation in place.
- 21:08Speaker 1: But maybe there isn't. This is a hard situation. I
- 21:13Speaker 1: don't think I would make a decision in one day. Yeah,
- 21:16Speaker 1: here's another question. They lived in the States, in Minnesota.
- 21:20Speaker 1: They went to Canada. Don't you get to like, isn't
- 21:23Speaker 1: there something about taking a minor kidnapping her? No, but
- 21:28Speaker 1: she had her father's permission. I've taken my minor children
- 21:31Speaker 1: to Canada without a father, find without my husband father,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and then we get more flashbacks Kat and her little
- 21:41Speaker 1: brother putting Glow in the Dark stars on the ceiling,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and we still don't know what has happened to Jacob.
- 21:49Speaker 1: There's this sweet moment and she's looking up at the
- 21:52Speaker 1: old glow in the Dark stars in that bedroom. Now,
- 21:55Speaker 1: Dell did not want her sleeping in Jacob's room. Yeah,
- 21:58Speaker 1: that was didn't go over so well, did it. No?
- 22:01Speaker 1: Next morning, you know, Delle's kind of spicy as ever.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Alice comes downstairs and she's like, don't you want to
- 22:05Speaker 1: get dressed? Now? Are you a come downstairs in your
- 22:07Speaker 1: pajama's kind of household? I? Yeah, yes, so were we. Honestly,
- 22:10Speaker 1: it kind of surprised me because she seems like she's
- 22:14Speaker 1: pretty casual, right, but she had these rules. Like Alice
- 22:17Speaker 1: was like, I'm just gonna get coffee. I don't really
- 22:20Speaker 1: do breakfast, you know, because Dale's like eat something too,
- 22:23Speaker 1: I know. And then Devil plays a trick on Alice,
- 22:28Speaker 1: which let's talk about Okay, She asked her to let
- 22:30Speaker 1: the dog out. Yes, Alice sets the dog out, and
- 22:33Speaker 1: there's a bunch of teenagers working on the farm, right,
- 22:36Speaker 1: and they all kind of look at her and laugh. Yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 1: my daughter went to camp this past weekend, and when
- 22:40Speaker 1: we picked her up, eighty percent of the kids getting
- 22:42Speaker 1: out of the van were in their pajamas. I think
- 22:44Speaker 1: it's just what kids wear now. If I go to
- 22:46Speaker 1: high school right now, half of them will be in
- 22:48Speaker 1: pajama pants. I think that is just she wasn't naked.
- 22:52Speaker 1: I know. I just say post twenty twenty, for some reason,
- 22:55Speaker 1: pajama pants became acceptable where during the day. Yeah, but
- 23:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying is this wouldn't have been humiliated with her,
- 23:03Speaker 1: just because she's wearing these like fuzzy rabbit slippers and
- 23:06Speaker 1: like whatever. She had like smudgy black makeup under her eyes.
- 23:11Speaker 1: She was thirty yards away. Yeah, it wasn't like she
- 23:14Speaker 1: walked outside naked. Yeah. Right, she was wearing a bunny costume.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I didn't think that that was humiliating. But she's the
- 23:21Speaker 1: new girl in town, and I guess that's not the
- 23:23Speaker 1: impression she wants to make. Yeah, but maybe we're making
- 23:26Speaker 1: this as a perspective of our age. If my daughter
- 23:30Speaker 1: would probably be mortified if I sent her outside and
- 23:33Speaker 1: there were boys and girls, Yes, and she was that's
- 23:37Speaker 1: her first impression. Yeah she was. Yeah, she wouldn't like that. So,
- 23:42Speaker 1: I mean, I can see from both ways. I kind
- 23:43Speaker 1: of like, I know, Dell thinks it's funny, and she's like, oh,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I don't teach you not to get dressed before records.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I thought I was just kind of mean, because clearly
- 23:50Speaker 1: that was her intent. Yes, yes, but why why do
- 23:53Speaker 1: that to your granddaughter? Like what was what was her
- 23:56Speaker 1: point there to prove to her that that's why you
- 23:58Speaker 1: need to get dressed the rules of the garment school?
- 24:01Speaker 1: I thought, so too. Oh cool, Well Cat enjoyed it. Yeah,
- 24:05Speaker 1: you know, I get it. She's also in a place
- 24:06Speaker 1: where her daughter's been reading her The Riot Act every night,
- 24:08Speaker 1: and so, you know, to see her daughter get a
- 24:11Speaker 1: little bit of a taste of her own medicine next time.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Waiting that Cat making some disappointed phone calls to editors
- 24:17Speaker 1: who are not as interested in her book as she
- 24:19Speaker 1: once believed they might be. That's why I'm wondering, like,
- 24:22Speaker 1: what is the story here, Like she had a book
- 24:26Speaker 1: idea that was exciting at one point and then didn't
- 24:29Speaker 1: do it. I don't know. I think she is in
- 24:32Speaker 1: the world and she meets people and they you know,
- 24:36Speaker 1: she says someday I'd like to write a book, and
- 24:38Speaker 1: they say I'd love to talk about that when the
- 24:40Speaker 1: time comes, as a throwaway comment, and whether they're actually
- 24:44Speaker 1: in the market for whatever type of books she would
- 24:45Speaker 1: write at the time, clearly they are not. Yeah, she's
- 24:49Speaker 1: gonna have to get a job at the point she
- 24:52Speaker 1: is so waiting tables. I had a timeline question, okay,
- 24:56Speaker 1: because Delle goes outside my note, say, Dell confronts Clark
- 25:01Speaker 1: Kent about mailing a letter Clerk Kent another glasses character
- 25:05Speaker 1: wearing glasses. Yeah, so it's Elliot Augustine, longtime family friend.
- 25:09Speaker 1: It appears that maybe he's supervising this high school program
- 25:12Speaker 1: where the students volunteer on the farm before school. What
- 25:15Speaker 1: time is it. It's like six am, man. So, first
- 25:19Speaker 1: of all, a lot happens. I believe that he says
- 25:21Speaker 1: he didn't send the letter. Mm hmmm, whether he was
- 25:25Speaker 1: lying or genuinely unclear about who sent the letter, but
- 25:30Speaker 1: he says it wasn't me. I think it was him, okay,
- 25:35Speaker 1: only because I maybe he just says, I don't know
- 25:39Speaker 1: what you're talking about, because I in his adult life,
- 25:42Speaker 1: he knows that Alice is going to return. So he
- 25:45Speaker 1: had to send the letter to get her there. I
- 25:47Speaker 1: don't know. Yes, good point, good point, I know. Spoiler
- 25:49Speaker 1: alert skipping the head. Elliott and Kat are reacquainted and
- 25:53Speaker 1: Mom says, oh, you have a lot in common what
- 25:54Speaker 1: with your divorces, and oh my god, so shady you're
- 25:57Speaker 1: both single. Shay Cat and Elliott chat for a minute,
- 26:03Speaker 1: and then apparently Alice is all of a sudden miss conscience.
- 26:06Speaker 1: She's about getting to school on time, and she barrels
- 26:08Speaker 1: out the door. I was like, Mom, we gotta go. Yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 1: I gotta say, my own fifteen year old is does
- 26:13Speaker 1: the same thing. Mind does too. You know. He takes
- 26:15Speaker 1: his time, takes this time, takes his time, and then
- 26:17Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he's like, everybody, are you ready? Yeah,
- 26:20Speaker 1: I'm the one. I yeah. The whole My question is
- 26:24Speaker 1: if Alice is leaving for school in that moment, why
- 26:27Speaker 1: is it, mister Augustine already I know it's it's kind
- 26:30Speaker 1: of messy hair. Yeah, the teachers need to get to
- 26:32Speaker 1: school before they don't the other students who are working
- 26:36Speaker 1: in the farm, don't they need to get to school too, right,
- 26:39Speaker 1: So I did see that. Elliott, he has a peculiar
- 26:42Speaker 1: reaction to Alice seeing her. I think this is his
- 26:45Speaker 1: first time night he sees her, or that we see
- 26:48Speaker 1: that he sees her. Okay, there's something weird there, we'll see. Okay.
- 26:53Speaker 1: She does meet a few of the farm teens at school.
- 26:56Speaker 1: They seem like nice kids. They seem like these are
- 26:59Speaker 1: potential friends at first. Yeah, I hope. So now Kat
- 27:01Speaker 1: and Braiden are yelling at each other, and Kat is
- 27:04Speaker 1: super mad that he turned Alice down. I'm kind of
- 27:08Speaker 1: surprised by that because I don't think there's any way
- 27:11Speaker 1: he could have done the right thing in this moment. Yeah,
- 27:14Speaker 1: he either says come home and now she's like, what
- 27:16Speaker 1: are you doing to me? Right, or he's breaking their
- 27:19Speaker 1: daughter's heart, right, so damned if you do. Here. I
- 27:24Speaker 1: do feel that he did empathize with Kat's return at home,
- 27:29Speaker 1: like he understand I mean, they were like teenage loves right,
- 27:34Speaker 1: so he he knew Dell at one time, or he
- 27:37Speaker 1: knew what their home was like at one time and
- 27:39Speaker 1: the tragedy that unfolds, and he's so he feels empathy
- 27:44Speaker 1: for her that she's back there and having to deal
- 27:46Speaker 1: with that. Yeah, And she tells Dad and Jacob have
- 27:48Speaker 1: been a race from the house. Yeah, and how weird
- 27:51Speaker 1: it is. He thought it was such a jery, a
- 27:54Speaker 1: moment of redemption. Yes, I agree, and we find out
- 27:57Speaker 1: Delle's keeping bees. And this is my favorite line of
- 27:59Speaker 1: the entire episode, when Kat's like, why did you change
- 28:03Speaker 1: the house? It's like an Airbnb in there, right, And
- 28:06Speaker 1: I thought, like the shells on the tray. Yes, I
- 28:09Speaker 1: totally agree, and Dell spends it right back on Cat.
- 28:13Speaker 1: She's like, you're floundering, and Kat's like, of course I'm floundering.
- 28:16Speaker 1: You erased my life. It's kind of sad. It's really sad.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And I thought, again, where is the warm, fuzzy mom, Like, yes,
- 28:25Speaker 1: I'm floundering. My marriage has ended. I've had you uproot
- 28:29Speaker 1: my life and move back home because I've lost my job.
- 28:32Speaker 1: It's very clear that I'm floundering. And I come back
- 28:34Speaker 1: home a place that is supposed to feel welcoming and
- 28:37Speaker 1: warm and like home. Yes, and it doesn't feel like that.
- 28:41Speaker 1: I just think that some people are not capable of that. Yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 1: So again wants me to know more about what happened
- 28:50Speaker 1: to Dell. Yes, of course something has hardened her up
- 28:55Speaker 1: over the years. Yes, she has healing to do. Yeah,
- 28:59Speaker 1: she's obviously had some trauma too. Yeah, and then shocker
- 29:03Speaker 1: Alice is in mister Augustine's classroom and he offers to
- 29:07Speaker 1: talk to her any place, anytime. Yeah. And my daughter
- 29:10Speaker 1: and I were watching this together and I go, eh,
- 29:13Speaker 1: you hear that? And then these real shitty classmates, Oh
- 29:19Speaker 1: is it getting hot in here? And they pretend to
- 29:20Speaker 1: pull a fire alarm. Yeah, damn, that's not even funny.
- 29:23Speaker 1: It's not the time for a creepy basement. That was
- 29:26Speaker 1: kind of scary. When was the last time anybody was
- 29:28Speaker 1: in here? Lamps are on their side, it's a full mes.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Kind of surprised Dell kept a basement in such a disarray. Yeah,
- 29:36Speaker 1: it was kind of funny because Kat pulls out like
- 29:40Speaker 1: Jacob's one box of memories. It's just like one cardboard box, Jacob.
- 29:45Speaker 1: She was going through that, but she was just looking
- 29:47Speaker 1: at like there was like a box and a ball.
- 29:49Speaker 1: And we get to that little mysterious box later on. Yeah,
- 29:53Speaker 1: a little tin. He's gonna be use for his treasures. Yes,
- 29:56Speaker 1: And we see a flashback of her dad and Jacob
- 29:57Speaker 1: fixing a clock together, a real sweet moment, and then
- 30:00Speaker 1: we find out miss Alice skips school pieced out. Yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 1: I probably would have two, Like that was probably it
- 30:07Speaker 1: for her, Like the kids making fun of her. She's like,
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'm out of hair and doing that. So she's been
- 30:10Speaker 1: spotted at the Point cafe and income's mom, Yeah, I
- 30:14Speaker 1: really love that because Alice is sitting at a table
- 30:17Speaker 1: and she's watching a birthday video of herself and she
- 30:21Speaker 1: has these huge like beats headphones on right, like which
- 30:25Speaker 1: AirPod maxes it was? Is that what they were? I
- 30:28Speaker 1: don't know, but big headphones, huge headphones, And I was
- 30:31Speaker 1: kind of like, what a fifteen year old really? Oh,
- 30:35Speaker 1: let me tell you. The AirPod max is very popular. Okay,
- 30:37Speaker 1: Arry six and her dollar headphones. Oh my gosh. So anyway,
- 30:40Speaker 1: the mom's like, headphones off. Yes, cat, you can tell
- 30:47Speaker 1: who we relate to in this show. And she's mad
- 30:50Speaker 1: that Alice hasn't given it a chance. And we see
- 30:54Speaker 1: them back at home arguing about Alice moving home, and
- 30:57Speaker 1: in a real dick move, I think, tells Alice that
- 31:01Speaker 1: Rachel has moved in. You think that's a dick move
- 31:03Speaker 1: because it's not appropriate for the mom to tell the daughter.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I think she was kind of trying to hurt her
- 31:09Speaker 1: daughter a little bit. Oh you think so? It felt
- 31:12Speaker 1: like it. She was like, you can't move home because
- 31:14Speaker 1: Rachel has moved in, Like Rachel has taken your place.
- 31:17Speaker 1: And I guess the question here is if this is
- 31:21Speaker 1: her dad's new girlfriend. If he's moved in, things are serious.
- 31:24Speaker 1: At some point, Kat and Rachel are going to have
- 31:26Speaker 1: to coexist. They're gonna have to live together at some point,
- 31:31Speaker 1: or at least have a like a life that overlaps. Yeah.
- 31:34Speaker 1: But to me, but like her mom wasn't getting through
- 31:37Speaker 1: to Alice and she wanted to land a blow, I
- 31:40Speaker 1: think that's fair. I also think perhaps she could be
- 31:45Speaker 1: like she needs Alice on her team and let's be
- 31:48Speaker 1: Matt dad together, and this is the reason why. Yeah,
- 31:52Speaker 1: but I don't know. Alice runs into the woods, throws
- 31:56Speaker 1: the bracelet that we know her mother had given her
- 32:00Speaker 1: into the pond, and then pretty much she instantly regrets it.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yeah right, she checks it in and then she walks
- 32:05Speaker 1: out onto the step or the rock, whatever it is,
- 32:09Speaker 1: and like she's looking, looking, looking, and I gotta say,
- 32:12Speaker 1: like they made the pond look really kind of not
- 32:15Speaker 1: desirable to swim in. Murky and even Delle ha says
- 32:20Speaker 1: earlier in the episode that she's like, it's more of
- 32:22Speaker 1: like a sinkhole than it is a pond. You know,
- 32:25Speaker 1: there's like stuff floating on it and whatever. Would you
- 32:28Speaker 1: ever just jump into a pond? No, I don't know
- 32:32Speaker 1: what's in there, Absolutely not anyway. So she's like reaching in.
- 32:37Speaker 1: This is the part that's a little bit unbelievable to me.
- 32:41Speaker 1: She's like reaching reaching the bracelet has sunk, it's not
- 32:44Speaker 1: going to be floating on the top, right, And then
- 32:47Speaker 1: all of a sudden she falls in head head over feet,
- 32:50Speaker 1: you know, yeah, and the sea weed gets her, which
- 32:53Speaker 1: looks like fern, you know what I'm talking about. The
- 32:59Speaker 1: fern is her up in her legs and she's flailing
- 33:03Speaker 1: underwater with the big eyes and she's you know, panicking,
- 33:08Speaker 1: I guess. And then a hand reaches out pulls her
- 33:10Speaker 1: out of the water, and it's Cat. Yeah, young Cat, Yes.
- 33:16Speaker 1: And back to present day, We've got Cat and Elliott
- 33:19Speaker 1: talking in the kitchen and can't can't believe the old
- 33:21Speaker 1: Alice isn't back. And at this point I yelled at
- 33:23Speaker 1: my TV. After one night, Cat she thought bringing her
- 33:27Speaker 1: back home would bring the old Alice back it's going
- 33:30Speaker 1: to take a minute. Yeah, I mean lower your expectations.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Kat Elliott like reference a song. They reference Everybody's Free
- 33:41Speaker 1: by Rosala, the spoken word hit of the nineties. I
- 33:44Speaker 1: don't even know that song. Hold on, it's from nineteen
- 33:49Speaker 1: ninety two. I was a sophomore in high school. Guys,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I was sixth grader. Shut up, weird song to reference?
- 34:02Speaker 1: I know there were some nineties deep cuts in this episode.
- 34:05Speaker 1: That is a weird one to me. I think so too. Yeah,
- 34:07Speaker 1: I think a better song reference there would have been
- 34:10Speaker 1: like some sort of rim song like everybody hurts sometime.
- 34:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about? That arim song. So
- 34:16Speaker 1: I don't know everybody cut back, Young Cat and Alis
- 34:21Speaker 1: are walking, Alice is soaking wet, and baby Elliott pops
- 34:25Speaker 1: his head out of the top window of what I
- 34:26Speaker 1: believe is a barn, and they meet Elliott, her best friend,
- 34:30Speaker 1: and then we have the first wowie zowie of the
- 34:34Speaker 1: way home. That's not true, because I actually think adult
- 34:39Speaker 1: Elliott is quite a cutie. I agree, but there is
- 34:43Speaker 1: something about Colton. But Colton turns around with the cutest
- 34:49Speaker 1: smile I've ever seen, and man, this is Jefferson Brown
- 34:52Speaker 1: hot or what. Yeah, we did a little dive on
- 34:55Speaker 1: him today. Jefferson Brown forty seven years old, yep, age appropriate,
- 34:58Speaker 1: super cute, so as I'm like, whoa, And I think
- 35:04Speaker 1: he's the perfect actor for this because what I'm guessing
- 35:07Speaker 1: is like he was the real heart of that home.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Like there just was like ye warmth emanating from this
- 35:13Speaker 1: actor on screen, like oh, they have such a nice fam. God.
- 35:16Speaker 1: I just hope we get more of him, I know,
- 35:18Speaker 1: and flashbacks, you know, I just hope, like it's not
- 35:20Speaker 1: just to establish like the story in this episode. I
- 35:24Speaker 1: hope we get more of it. I think we will.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I think we will, Okay, And then Alice enters Young
- 35:28Speaker 1: Cat's bedroom lands of the calendar, and that's when we
- 35:30Speaker 1: learned that it is nineteen ninety nine. And this is
- 35:33Speaker 1: why it is important that that program said two thousand.
- 35:37Speaker 1: We don't have a lot of time to work with here, right,
- 35:39Speaker 1: It's kind of interesting. Something has to go bad. Alice
- 35:43Speaker 1: knows that her grandfather passes away, and she probably knew
- 35:46Speaker 1: when he passed away. I'm wondering when she's gonna make
- 35:49Speaker 1: the connection of how little time she has left in
- 35:54Speaker 1: this past before she loses him. Right, and did was
- 35:59Speaker 1: it established if Jacob died before Colton, not that I'm
- 36:03Speaker 1: aware of, or if they died at the same time. Yeah,
- 36:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't think so based on the
- 36:08Speaker 1: conversation happens later. But let's get back to it. Okay.
- 36:12Speaker 1: This was one of my favorite scenes because young Cat
- 36:17Speaker 1: is getting some clothes for Alice to change into, and
- 36:21Speaker 1: she says something about her like clothes not being great
- 36:25Speaker 1: or whatever, and Alice says, it's okay, the nineties are
- 36:28Speaker 1: totally back in style anyway. Yeah, and Cassick what never mind?
- 36:33Speaker 1: Well I picked up on that too. But what I
- 36:35Speaker 1: loved about that scene is earlier, when Alice is leaving
- 36:38Speaker 1: the house, She's like, I don't even know what's weird
- 36:39Speaker 1: to school. I hate everything I own, and then Cat
- 36:41Speaker 1: basically says the exact same thing. She's like, here, I
- 36:44Speaker 1: hate everything I own. Yeah, yeah, I think that's pretty
- 36:46Speaker 1: typical of fifteen year old girls. Of course, of course
- 36:49Speaker 1: forty three year old women. Do we ever grow out
- 36:52Speaker 1: of that? I don't know. And then we see Dell
- 36:55Speaker 1: at the kitchen table with young Jacob looking at his
- 36:58Speaker 1: polaroids and telling them that he has a beautiful eye
- 37:00Speaker 1: for photography or shadowing, lay in the groundwork there, and
- 37:06Speaker 1: then leagat Alice in the baby doll dress. Yes, yes,
- 37:12Speaker 1: we're gonna have a little bit more to talk about
- 37:14Speaker 1: that baby doll dress. Yeah, yeah, yeah at the end
- 37:17Speaker 1: in our new segment noticed in the nineties, Noticed in
- 37:21Speaker 1: the nineties. So we're at the dinner table. It's kind
- 37:25Speaker 1: of crazy because we're in the same home. We're in
- 37:28Speaker 1: the same it's the same dinner situation, and it's very
- 37:31Speaker 1: lively and fun and and you know, they're talking and
- 37:35Speaker 1: they're talking about Cat getting a job at the camp,
- 37:38Speaker 1: and of course she has to go because you never
- 37:41Speaker 1: know who she's gonna meet. Of course that's where she
- 37:42Speaker 1: meets her future husband. Do we then go to the
- 37:45Speaker 1: scene in present day? Yes, we do, because then we
- 37:47Speaker 1: go back to this scene. Yes, So now I got
- 37:49Speaker 1: Cat and Dell at the kitchen table in present day, right,
- 37:51Speaker 1: And this this is what's wild to me, is because
- 37:54Speaker 1: we it's we're comparing and contrasting. Like the scene, it
- 38:00Speaker 1: takes place in the same place. Yes, and one is
- 38:05Speaker 1: lively and full of life, and I guess those two
- 38:09Speaker 1: things mean the same. And then we have like it's
- 38:12Speaker 1: almost like the coloring of it is even like darker.
- 38:16Speaker 1: She's sitting in the same chair Dell. Yes. Also side note,
- 38:21Speaker 1: I had read an article from Annie McDowell and she
- 38:25Speaker 1: said that she was a little bit worried about shooting
- 38:28Speaker 1: the scenes with her. She's wearing a wig in those scenes,
- 38:31Speaker 1: and she was a little bit worried because she's like
- 38:34Speaker 1: her neck was going to give away her age. Oh interesting,
- 38:38Speaker 1: And she's like, but luckily, like the director shot it
- 38:40Speaker 1: with like kind of like an outer focus, you know,
- 38:43Speaker 1: filter or whatever. And I was like, oh god, I
- 38:46Speaker 1: feel your pain with this nest situation too. But that's
- 38:51Speaker 1: how I remember Annie McDowell with like this dark curly hair. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 1: she looks great. Great, I thought either way, she looks great.
- 38:58Speaker 1: She's so gorgeous. One thing I really noticed in this
- 39:01Speaker 1: scene is Della's calm and Cat's freaking out because Alice
- 39:05Speaker 1: is missing, and delsa she'll be fine, and Kat says, well,
- 39:07Speaker 1: Jacob wasn't out. That's below the belt, don't you think so?
- 39:12Speaker 1: So that ally's me to believe there was an accident.
- 39:16Speaker 1: I hope he didn't drown in the pond looking for
- 39:19Speaker 1: the White Witch foreshadowing Oh my goodness. Back to nineteen
- 39:22Speaker 1: eighty nine, Dad's playing guitar, and is this where Alice
- 39:25Speaker 1: gets her musical talent from Oh my Gosh A Voice
- 39:28Speaker 1: of an Angel? Singing along with Colton. They were singing
- 39:32Speaker 1: better Be Home Soon by Crowded House. I mean that
- 39:35Speaker 1: is a nineties I don't I'm not familiar with that song,
- 39:39Speaker 1: but crowded House a ninety staple. Yeah. I thought it
- 39:42Speaker 1: was really sweet because you know, she like apologizes for
- 39:45Speaker 1: singing along, and I, from the perspective of a parent,
- 39:48Speaker 1: I loved the idea of, like any of my kids
- 39:52Speaker 1: friends feeling that comfortable in our house. Totally like to
- 39:55Speaker 1: be that part of the moment. I don't there's no
- 39:57Speaker 1: parent that wouldn't like love that moment. And then Colton says,
- 40:01Speaker 1: never apologize for talent. Now here's what's interesting to me.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Alice is gonna go home and Delle's like, oh cold
- 40:08Speaker 1: and to walk you and she's like, no, no, no,
- 40:09Speaker 1: I'll be fine, and they just like give it up. Yeah,
- 40:11Speaker 1: because obviously just got to go jump back in the pond, right, Yeah,
- 40:15Speaker 1: but first Jake takes Polaroin. Yes, but wait he did
- 40:19Speaker 1: he does mention the White Witch did you not catch
- 40:22Speaker 1: that part? I did, so Jacob says to her, like, oh,
- 40:26Speaker 1: don't let the White Witch get you on the way home,
- 40:30Speaker 1: and Dale says, oh, for the lore, Yeah, so I
- 40:36Speaker 1: mean obviously he's referring to like this lore of this
- 40:41Speaker 1: girl being chased and jumping into the pond who maybe
- 40:46Speaker 1: then drowned there. Perhaps we don't know. Is she haunting people?
- 40:51Speaker 1: So many unanswered questions. As Alice leaves, she looks back
- 40:54Speaker 1: into the window and it's a very sweet family tableau
- 40:56Speaker 1: that she looks upon. Tableau. There's that word. Anyway, we
- 41:01Speaker 1: did mention that Jacob takes a picture, right, Jacob takes
- 41:04Speaker 1: a poloroid? Yeah we did. And we see Kat back
- 41:07Speaker 1: in present day, calling Alice, leaving her a message begging
- 41:10Speaker 1: her to come home. Here's my issue with that scene.
- 41:12Speaker 1: What no teen listens to their voicemail? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 41:16Speaker 1: I'm not even sure my son has an outgoing message
- 41:18Speaker 1: set up on his She doesn't have Life three sixty
- 41:20Speaker 1: on there where she can like find find my phone,
- 41:23Speaker 1: find my friends, something where she can locate her daughter.
- 41:27Speaker 1: An Apple air tag on this girl who's obviously been
- 41:30Speaker 1: in trouble the last year, like something to find her.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I just think, like they're living in a different lifestyle,
- 41:38Speaker 1: like out in this farm, like you. She'll be home
- 41:41Speaker 1: when she gets home. Nothing bad happens here, you know.
- 41:45Speaker 1: But I don't. I don't think she feels that way. Shit,
- 41:47Speaker 1: I don't literally freaked out. Kat doesn't feel that way. Yeah. Yeah.
- 41:50Speaker 1: And then Kat opens Jacob's jar of treasures and finds
- 41:54Speaker 1: a stack of photos. And this is the moment I
- 41:57Speaker 1: thought we've lost Wendy. No no, no, no, you didn't. I
- 42:02Speaker 1: was like, oh, it's a real Marty McFly molt. Yeah.
- 42:08Speaker 1: I was into it. I was super into it. She
- 42:11Speaker 1: flips through the photos and of course she sees the
- 42:13Speaker 1: one that he took with Alice in it, and there's
- 42:16Speaker 1: something blogging her, so she can't see her face, but
- 42:18Speaker 1: you do see her dress. Yes. So I'm wondering, like,
- 42:20Speaker 1: does Cat have memory of this, this event pulling this
- 42:25Speaker 1: girl Alice out of the water, Like this is where
- 42:28Speaker 1: time travel gets real sticky for me, right because it
- 42:32Speaker 1: hadn't happened, But of course it had already happened. Elliott
- 42:35Speaker 1: remembers her. Yes, and Elliott says, don't worry, Alice will
- 42:39Speaker 1: find her way home. Yes, This is when we now
- 42:42Speaker 1: see Alice climbing up into the barn to go talk
- 42:45Speaker 1: to Elliott and she's like, I need your help. And
- 42:48Speaker 1: he's like, what we've just met, what are you talking about?
- 42:51Speaker 1: And she's like, you got to trust me. You told
- 42:53Speaker 1: me you'd help me anytime, any place, and you just
- 42:56Speaker 1: help me right now. The next scene down by the
- 42:59Speaker 1: water is playing adult Elliott waiting for Cap to return
- 43:02Speaker 1: to the present day. Yeah. Yeah, and now you have
- 43:06Speaker 1: to wait a whole week for another episode. I know
- 43:08Speaker 1: I was. There was part of me that was like,
- 43:10Speaker 1: oh my god, I wish this was a two hour premiere.
- 43:12Speaker 1: I wish I could binge watch all of these like
- 43:16Speaker 1: it hooked me. It hooked me. Good me too. We've
- 43:18Speaker 1: definitely watched shows. We're at the end. You're like, mm,
- 43:21Speaker 1: but I'll give it another one or two to see
- 43:23Speaker 1: if I get into it. I did not feel like
- 43:25Speaker 1: that at the end of the day. We have a
- 43:26Speaker 1: couple of recurring segments that we're going to include in
- 43:29Speaker 1: these episodes. I'm excited about these. First is noticed in
- 43:32Speaker 1: the nineties, Yes, ma'am. We don't spend a lot of
- 43:34Speaker 1: time in the nineties in this episode, but I would say,
- 43:38Speaker 1: what was the standout, It was the baby doll dress.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Thousand percent. It was the baby doll dress. We had
- 43:44Speaker 1: to do a little googling. I mean, I was in
- 43:48Speaker 1: the nineties. I graduated high school in nineteen ninety three.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I remember wearing a baby doll dress myself in nineteen
- 43:53Speaker 1: ninety four around that time. Yeah, so they're saying, this
- 43:58Speaker 1: is nineteen ninety nine, and I don't think the baby
- 44:01Speaker 1: doll dress was that popular. No, A little research told
- 44:05Speaker 1: us that the baby doll dress was a little more
- 44:07Speaker 1: popular in the early part of the century. But I
- 44:10Speaker 1: will say as a fashion statement of the nineties, I
- 44:14Speaker 1: do think it's maybe the most standout piece because a
- 44:19Speaker 1: lot of what we have, you know, nineteen ninety nine.
- 44:22Speaker 1: The look of nineteen eighty nine is like black pants.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Anybody who was a young adult nineteen ninety nine knows
- 44:29Speaker 1: what that means. What are you wearing? Black pants? Yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 1: and probably like big black sandals with it, h and
- 44:35Speaker 1: a going out top. Black pants and a cute top
- 44:37Speaker 1: was an outfit and has how you would describe it.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I don't think that translates as well, because on screen
- 44:42Speaker 1: it just looks like a very basic outfit, and I
- 44:44Speaker 1: think a lot of what else was popular at this time,
- 44:47Speaker 1: you know, like cropped tops and Adidas style sweatpants. I
- 44:53Speaker 1: think the baby doll dress is more of a look
- 44:57Speaker 1: that communicates nineties. I did think it was interesting, and
- 45:00Speaker 1: I didn't talk about this in that moment because I
- 45:02Speaker 1: knew we were coming to it. If you were going
- 45:04Speaker 1: to borrow clothes from someone, wouldn't it just be like,
- 45:06Speaker 1: it's sure, it would give me a full out of it.
- 45:10Speaker 1: But again, they were trying to make that ninety statement.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Next up, every week, we're going to crown a homie
- 45:16Speaker 1: of the week, Homie of the Week. During the premiere
- 45:19Speaker 1: of this episode, Hallmark was like in their Instagram stories
- 45:26Speaker 1: trying to come up with a name for their fans.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Did you see any of it? I didn't, But are
- 45:33Speaker 1: they calling them homies? Homies was an option? Ponders no,
- 45:38Speaker 1: Vita another ponderers no it was another And there was
- 45:43Speaker 1: one more Hallmark Channel unofficial poll for a name for
- 45:47Speaker 1: the way Home Hallmarkies Homies, Ponders, ponderers and wadeters w
- 45:53Speaker 1: A Y D R S with a double entendre there
- 45:56Speaker 1: because you wade into a pond. Yeah, I don't like
- 45:58Speaker 1: that one either, I mean Homies. This is a clear choice,
- 46:01Speaker 1: right A. Hallmark responds way Homies has also been suggested
- 46:05Speaker 1: Homies was the clear winner with fifty percent of the vote,
- 46:09Speaker 1: So we named this segment prior to the airing of
- 46:12Speaker 1: this episode. We're going with Homie of the Week, Yeah,
- 46:16Speaker 1: because I feel like there was so much set up
- 46:18Speaker 1: in this episode. I think there's there's potential for every
- 46:21Speaker 1: single person. But the person who grabbed us Yeah is
- 46:25Speaker 1: Jefferson Brown for his qut cutie smile Dad Colton. Yeah, man,
- 46:29Speaker 1: he turned around seriously. I know, I know, I know.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I thought it was just me. I was like, am
- 46:35Speaker 1: I into old dudes? Oh dude, he's my age, I know.
- 46:41Speaker 1: And in the episode he's the father of a teenager
- 46:45Speaker 1: and like an eight year old, so he's our age.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I know. I know. It's just weird. I'm in my
- 46:53Speaker 1: own weird time travel like I can't you know. Yeah,
- 46:57Speaker 1: he's nice to look at. Yeah, Colton is our Homie
- 47:01Speaker 1: of the Week. That wraps up our recap of episode one,
- 47:05Speaker 1: the pilot episode Mothers and Daughters of the Way Home.
- 47:09Speaker 1: We will be recapping The Way Home every Wednesday. We
- 47:13Speaker 1: believe We've got a ten episode season coming at us,
- 47:17Speaker 1: so prepare for that for the next ten weeks. Of course,
- 47:19Speaker 1: every Tuesday you can listen to our Hallmark movie reviews
- 47:25Speaker 1: Way Back next week with the Wedding Veil Journey and
- 47:28Speaker 1: episode two of The Way Home until it hopp into
- 47:31Speaker 1: our Facebook group Girls Gone Hallmark and let us know
- 47:34Speaker 1: what should think. Goodbye, everybody, Bye,
