Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The Republican National Convention starts today in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And
- 0:04Speaker 1: this comes just a couple of days after the former
- 0:07Speaker 1: President Trump was shot at in an assassination attempt. A
- 0:11Speaker 1: couple of things happening that you need to be aware of. Today.
- 0:13Speaker 1: He is tipped to pick his vice president, well not
- 0:18Speaker 1: his vice president, but his running mate to be vice president.
- 0:20Speaker 1: So he's tipped to pick his and announce his vice president. Also,
- 0:26Speaker 1: this classified documents case that has been plaguing the former
- 0:30Speaker 1: president has just been dismissed by a Florida judge joining us.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Ira Spitzer, the FSN correspondent, Ira, Great to have you
- 0:37Speaker 1: on the program. Let's start with the VP pick. When
- 0:40Speaker 1: do we think this is going to happen? What do
- 0:43Speaker 1: we know?
- 0:45Speaker 2: Well, here in Milwaukee, there's definitely a real palpable sense
- 0:50Speaker 2: of excitement today with that news revealed by Donald Trump
- 0:54Speaker 2: himself earlier in the day that he will name a
- 0:59Speaker 2: running mate for upcoming campaign. We don't know exactly when
- 1:02Speaker 2: that's going to happen. The convention will proceed into the
- 1:07Speaker 2: sort of later hours of the evening, so at some
- 1:09Speaker 2: point we will expect to hear who that person is.
- 1:15Speaker 2: He's apparently narrowed it down to four finalists, so presumably
- 1:21Speaker 2: it will be one of those four people. Jd Vance,
- 1:24Speaker 2: the Senator from Ohio with so many a lot of
- 1:27Speaker 2: people are talking about that he could be a likely pick.
- 1:31Speaker 2: He's one of those four finalists as well as Senator
- 1:34Speaker 2: Marco Rivio from Florida, Senator Tim Scott from North Carolina,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and Governor Doug Burgham from North Dakota. So yeah, is
- 1:42Speaker 2: going to be a huge, huge news of course when
- 1:45Speaker 2: that happens. And there's just been huge news of course
- 1:46Speaker 2: for the last few days with the attempted assassination of
- 1:50Speaker 2: course just a couple of days.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Ago, and now we've got this classified documents case being
- 1:55Speaker 1: dismissed by far to judge. Does say have a big
- 1:58Speaker 1: impact on the election campaign, particularly for Biden who's been
- 2:02Speaker 1: wanting to run this line that Trump is above the
- 2:05Speaker 1: law and he's a threat to democracy. Does this have
- 2:07Speaker 1: a big impact.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Well, it's definitely good news for Donald Trump both legally,
- 2:16Speaker 2: although there was this this case was almost certainly not
- 2:19Speaker 2: going to go to trial before the election. But I
- 2:21Speaker 2: think you kind of hit on something there which is
- 2:24Speaker 2: from a perception standpoint, the fact that this judge in Florida,
- 2:28Speaker 2: Eileen Cannon, who was appointed by by by Trump. The
- 2:33Speaker 2: fact that she sort of threw out the case, saying
- 2:36Speaker 2: that the you know, the appointment of the special prosecutor
- 2:39Speaker 2: who was investigating this by the Justice Department, thing that
- 2:42Speaker 2: was unconstitutional. So from the perception of you know, Trump,
- 2:48Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago, it was you know, the
- 2:50Speaker 2: convicted felon was was the tagline that a lot of
- 2:53Speaker 2: Democrats were using for Trump. But now I think having
- 2:56Speaker 2: this case at least thrown out shift narrative in a
- 3:00Speaker 2: way that is favorable for Donald Trump. So it's been
- 3:03Speaker 2: a you can say, a good few days for Trump,
- 3:06Speaker 2: although the fact that he was almost killed makes it
- 3:09Speaker 2: hard to truly say that. But in terms of just
- 3:12Speaker 2: just a momentum here for Donald Trump, surviving that attack,
- 3:16Speaker 2: having that that historic photo op that that came after
- 3:22Speaker 2: the bullet narrowly missed him or didn't even miss him,
- 3:25Speaker 2: it hit his ear apparently, but surviving that attack, and
- 3:29Speaker 2: then now having some legal problems resolved at least for now.
- 3:32Speaker 2: There will be an appeal, but resolved for now is
- 3:36Speaker 2: certainly good news for the former president.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You're listening to iras Spitzer, who's if it's in correspondent
- 3:42Speaker 1: at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin. Just before you
- 3:46Speaker 1: go a security wise, is it a safe place for Trump?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Well, it's there's it's certainly a tremendous level of security here,
- 3:58Speaker 2: as you would would always have been the case with
- 4:01Speaker 2: the Republican National Convention. One significant difference between the proceedings
- 4:07Speaker 2: here and that rally in Western Pennsylvania where where he
- 4:12Speaker 2: was almost assassinated. As to even enter these grounds you
- 4:17Speaker 2: have to be vetted. So anyone with some sort of
- 4:21Speaker 2: plot would have had to have been planning this for
- 4:24Speaker 2: a while. It's not something that somebody would easily be
- 4:27Speaker 2: able to just come to with the intention of carrying
- 4:30Speaker 2: out some sort of harm or attack. So hopefully it
- 4:34Speaker 2: is a safe place to.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Be our Thanks for you, Tom Iras Spitzer, if this
