- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm still standing, which reminds me of a dad joke
- 0:02Speaker 1: I heard yesterday. Can I tell it real quick?
- 0:04Speaker 2: Of course.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Okay.
- 0:05Speaker 3: All right. So my wife, I told my wife that
- 0:07Speaker 3: my back has been hurting. So she recommended that I
- 0:10Speaker 3: go to a chiropractor. And I said, I don't want
- 0:12Speaker 3: to go to a chiropractor. But I went to a chiropractor.
- 0:15Speaker 3: And it turns out I stand corrected.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Uh-huh. She was right all along. I stand corrected. The
- 0:23Speaker 1: chiropractor fixed my back.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You need your own little.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I really need a rim shot.
- 0:28Speaker 2: You need a rim shot really bad.
- 0:29Speaker 3: We have a little button here. We have several buttons, actually,
- 0:32Speaker 3: that I can choose from. And I only have these
- 0:34Speaker 3: sound effects.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I got this one. I got the bell we use
- 0:38Speaker 1: for Trivia Battle. I have the winter music. And I
- 0:42Speaker 1: have another. And I have. And I have.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I think that might have been the one.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I should have done the American Idol thing. Okay. But
- 0:53Speaker 1: I don't have a rim shot on there. I have this.
- 0:56Speaker 1: We can do our NFL picks later for our Survivor.
- 0:59Speaker 2: That music just makes me nervous.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It does, right? It stresses you out a little bit.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And I have this, by the way. Time to wake
- 1:06Speaker 1: up Green Day now. September's over.
- 1:08Speaker 3: It's time to wake them up.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Anyway, sorry.
- 1:12Speaker 3: We weren't planning on doing this, but what were we
- 1:14Speaker 3: going to do?
- 1:15Speaker 1: I forgot.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Well, we were going to talk about how our dining
- 1:17Speaker 2: habits have changed because of the economy. Yeah, seriously. They have.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yes, it's tough.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I think it's very relatable. I know Eric and I,
- 1:27Speaker 2: it's made a big difference for us.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You used to eat out more, right? Yeah. And now
- 1:31Speaker 1: you kind of pulled back?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. And from delivery service, big time. Like we
- 1:36Speaker 2: go pick it up.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Pick it up, yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 2: We have to. So yeah, Pop Menu did a survey, 67%
- 1:40Speaker 2: of Americans spending less on restaurants than we did just
- 1:44Speaker 2: a year ago. So a year ago, we were spending
- 1:46Speaker 2: an average of $ 100 a week. on restaurants and uh
- 1:51Speaker 2: now we are down oh we we are we were
- 1:53Speaker 2: at 115 a year ago now we're at 100 a
- 1:57Speaker 2: week um a lot of us dinner is the meal
- 2:00Speaker 2: that we're skipping the most for some it's lunch and
- 2:02Speaker 2: breakfast diners are also making changes to the way they
- 2:05Speaker 2: dine out to make it more affordable people are opting
- 2:08Speaker 2: just for water instead of ordering a beverage to save
- 2:12Speaker 2: some money well.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I gotta tell you i mean everybody every place is
- 2:15Speaker 3: different but here in the city you go to a
- 2:17Speaker 3: bar just for a drink and that drink could be
- 2:20Speaker 3: 25 30 dollars i know you can't even go to
- 2:22Speaker 3: like a nice bar and have a drink before your
- 2:25Speaker 3: meal and then boom you're in the.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Hole already you're already yep um we are ordering appetizers
- 2:30Speaker 2: instead of a full meal oh that's all you have
- 2:33Speaker 2: yes okay and cutting back on alcohol is a big thing.
- 2:36Speaker 3: We've been doing that with our kids by the way
- 2:38Speaker 3: We'll get a kid, like say, like for example, we
- 2:40Speaker 3: went to Texas Roadhouse in Pennsylvania a couple of weeks
- 2:42Speaker 3: ago and the kids never eat all their food.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So we got a kid's meal and they shared it. Yep.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Because even the kid's meal was too big for one.
- 2:51Speaker 2: It makes sense.
- 2:51Speaker 3: And yeah, I think I had two sliders. So Miles,
- 2:55Speaker 3: you have a slider. Naomi has a slider.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Split the fries. Save some money there.
- 2:59Speaker 2: And they're good.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yep.
- 3:01Speaker 2: So cutting back on alcohol, which doesn't apply to your kids,
- 3:03Speaker 2: of course. But 40% of diners are saying they're, tipping
- 3:08Speaker 2: less than they were a year ago.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I mean, we've talked about this a lot. I know.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Tipping comes up everywhere now. Even when you're picking up,
- 3:16Speaker 1: they flip that iPad around.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I know. That's the thing.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Tipping fatigue is real.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I feel like I don't tip less at a restaurant, right?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Because... I still do 20%. Yeah, at least. I never
- 3:25Speaker 1: go below unless it's really bad. At least.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I do at least 20%, usually more. But it's the
- 3:31Speaker 2: big dilemma is when they slide that iPad and they're
- 3:33Speaker 2: watching you. And you walked in And I only got
- 3:36Speaker 2: a coffee.
- 3:37Speaker 1: And you only got a coffee.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Can I please just not? But I feel like if
- 3:40Speaker 2: I hit no tip, there's a change in attitude right away. Like,
- 3:43Speaker 2: you know?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Right. Sometimes.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I don't know what to do.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Sometimes they'll flip it around and they get like distracted
- 3:49Speaker 3: by their boss or whatever.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 3:50Speaker 1: They'll turn around.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Oh, good.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And I'll be like, yeah, no tip.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Boom.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Like, I don't mean to be like that, but you can't.
- 3:59Speaker 2: There you go. But yeah, can't. You can't tip the
- 4:01Speaker 2: whole world. It gets hard.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Just a tip.
- 4:04Speaker 2: A lot of us are going for restaurants that are
- 4:06Speaker 2: more affordable, that have meal options, special deals. We're using
- 4:09Speaker 2: coupons without shame.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Three o'clock dinners, too. Blue plate specials.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Oh, blue plate specials. Love those. Some of us are
- 4:17Speaker 2: choosing restaurants with loyalty programs. This is just the changing habits.
- 4:21Speaker 1: How are you doing it, folks? If you can give
- 4:23Speaker 1: us a text. You know, we love text.
- 4:24Speaker 3: You can call 1-800-222-1067. But you know what? No one
- 4:27Speaker 3: likes to pick up the phone and talk anymore. We're
- 4:29Speaker 3: too busy. Just text.
- 4:31Speaker 1: 4-4-3-6-3. Are you going out still? Are you dialing it back?
- 4:35Speaker 1: How are you managing? Because it is tough times right now.
- 4:37Speaker 2: It is.
- 4:38Speaker 1: All right, you have the headlines coming up, Christine.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah, you said nobody picks up the phone cubby, but
- 4:41Speaker 2: apparently somebody does, and scientists are studying. Depending on which
- 4:45Speaker 2: ear you hold your phone up to says a lot
- 4:47Speaker 2: about your personality.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Let's find out.
