- 0:07as Check A Pro Joe where we check out contractors before they go into your home
- 0:12Nathan Shafer is one from Shafer Heating and Cooling hey Nathan how are
- 0:17you hey Jim how are you I'm doing good thank you yeah I'm living the dream my
- 0:21friend so we hear this sometimes times, SEER,
- 0:26SEER rating when it comes to air conditioning.
- 0:31I know it has something to do with efficiency. I really don't know a lot.
- 0:36Now that my listeners know a lot about what it is and why it's important,
- 0:41can you explain in layman's terms what SEER means?
- 0:45Absolutely. So SEER stands for seasonal energy efficiency ratio.
- 0:51Now, once again, most hosts will be like, well, okay, that's cool. What's that?
- 0:56Easy way to put it, and I think something that we can all relate to is miles per gallon of your car.
- 1:02We talk about our cars and, well, this one gets X amount of miles per gallon.
- 1:06This one gets 30 miles of the gallon, et cetera, et cetera.
- 1:08Picture your HVAC system kind of the same way. When we talk about a more efficient
- 1:13system, a higher SEER rating of a 14 SEER or a 16 SEER or an 18 or a 20,
- 1:20et cetera, what does that mean?
- 1:22Well, just picture it as a nicer, higher end system, right?
- 1:25The higher that SEER number goes and the better miles per gallon it's going
- 1:29to get, the more efficient it's going to be.
- 1:31Now, you get into some of those higher SEER ratings.
- 1:34It's not just strictly miles per gallon, right? The cost of utilities to operate
- 1:39that system. There's other things that come with that as well.
- 1:41More bells and whistles, better comfort, quieter systems, then higher the SEER
- 1:47rating, the more options and things you're going to get.
- 1:49But when it comes down to just the SEER, what does that mean?
- 1:52Simplest way that I have found for people to understand is miles per gallon.
- 1:57Miles per gallon. So you want an air conditioning system with the highest SEER rating, correct?
- 2:05Correct. Yeah. Yes. If the goal is to get a higher miles per gallon, yes.
- 2:11And save money, unless you maybe own stock in your utility company, probably not.
- 2:16Then yes, we want to get the most efficient, the highest miles per gallon we can get.
- 2:21And there are a number of different SEER ratings. Things have changed over the decades.
- 2:27And one does pay more for a higher SEER rating, but you're going to have more efficiency.
- 2:33So you're going to save electricity and it's more environmentally sound.
- 2:39Exactly. You got it. That is 100% correct. What are the options from Schaefer?
- 2:44How many different products do you have from
- 2:47this SEER to that sear handful oh man
- 2:51there's actually you know hundreds and hundreds of
- 2:54options when you come into different uh you
- 2:57know brands and types and sizes and sear ratings and matchups and so um you
- 3:02know there's only so many sears but you can match those with different indoor
- 3:06units whether it be gas or whether it be electric you know whether it be inverter
- 3:09driven systems whether it be multi-state systems so there's a lot of different
- 3:12options the the to not get over overcomplicate and spend the next couple hours
- 3:16talking about those options,
- 3:17the simplest way, the best way is to have one of our comfort specialists come
- 3:22in because not the highest shear rating or a given particular system is going
- 3:27to be best for every customer, right?
- 3:29For every client. So depending on the house, depending on their wants and needs,
- 3:33you know, depending on, you know, their budget, depending on all these different
- 3:37things within the home and that family will kind of help depend on what system
- 3:43and what shear rating, what matchups can be best for them.
- 3:46And it's important to ask those questions as a homeowner. You want to make sure
- 3:51that you understand what you're getting. This isn't investment over time.
- 3:54This isn't something you're installing for just six months.
- 3:56If it's maintained well, it'll last a long time.
- 3:59And you really want to have great comfort in your home. It doesn't matter if
- 4:03it's an 800 square foot home or 8,000 square feet.
- 4:06When you're in your castle, you want to be be comfortable and you really need
- 4:13to match up the right system with the right home.
- 4:17And there's going to be options within that, which is great.
- 4:21And based on what you want, Shafer can help you plug into that.
- 4:27And so there are a lot of options today. Years ago, there weren't as many options
- 4:30and the systems weren't as efficient and they didn't keep us as comfortable.
- 4:35They worked, worked but they weren't as finely tuned and it's amazing what the
- 4:39technology brings today absolutely absolutely Nathan as always thank you so
- 4:45much for being the expert here on the show all right thank you Jim have a great day.
