- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo! It's episode one hundred and eleven. How are you feeling? Luna: I'm good, Lucas! Ready to learn more market phrases. I think we've bought almost everything — chicken, coconut, onions... what's next? Lucas: Today we're going to the fish stall. Fish is a huge part of Malaysian cooking, so knowing how to buy it is super useful. Luna: Ooh, I love fish! Okay, what do I say first? Lucas: Start with 'Saya mahu ikan.' That means 'I want fish.' Let's say it together: Saya mahu ikan. Luna: Saya mahu ikan. Lucas: Perfect. Now, the seller will probably tell you the price. But if you need to ask, say 'Berapa harga sekilo?' — 'How much per kilo?' Luna: Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: Exactly. Sekilo means one kilo. Now you want to check if the fish is fresh. 'Ikan ini segar?' — 'Is this fish fresh?' Luna: Ikan ini segar? Lucas: Great pronunciation. If you want a specific number of fish, use 'ekor' for animals. 'Saya mahu tiga ekor' — 'I want three.' Luna: Saya mahu tiga ekor. Lucas: And often the seller will clean it for you. You can ask 'Boleh bersihkan?' — 'Can you clean it?' Luna: Boleh bersihkan? Lucas: Good. Let's put it all together. Imagine you're at the stall. You say 'Saya mahu ikan.' Then 'Berapa harga sekilo?' The seller says twenty ringgit. You check: 'Ikan ini segar?' Yes. Then 'Saya mahu tiga ekor.' And finally 'Boleh bersihkan?' Luna: That sounds smooth. Let me try a full scenario. Saya mahu ikan. Berapa harga sekilo? Ikan ini segar? Saya mahu tiga ekor. Boleh bersihkan? Lucas: Absolutely nailed it, Luna! You sound like a pro at the market. Luna: Oh, that's so good. I can actually imagine doing this now. Lucas: Berapa harga sekilo? Luna: Berapa harga sekilo? Lucas: Ikan ini segar? Luna: Ikan ini segar? Lucas: Saya mahu tiga ekor. Luna: Saya mahu tiga ekor. Lucas: Boleh bersihkan? Luna: Boleh bersihkan? Lucas: Fantastic. Keep practicing, and next time you're at a market, try using these. Thanks for joining us on Learn Malay with Fexingo. See you next episode! Luna: Bye bye! Jumpa lagi!
