Speaker 1: in verse eleven today, and I want to give you

Speaker 1: a little bit of background. We are examining the life

Speaker 1: of Paul the Apostle. Paul the Apostle has went out

Speaker 1: on his missionary journeys, and now he was committed to

Speaker 1: go to Jerusalem because he wanted to be a witness

Speaker 1: for the Lord there. But as we have been going

Speaker 1: through scripture, at least personally, I haven't seen it where

Speaker 1: the Lord sent them or told him to go to Jerusalem.

Speaker 1: He has always been telling him to flee from this place,

Speaker 1: to go out to the Gentiles. So now the Lord

Speaker 1: himself is going to appear and tell him that he's

Speaker 1: going to send him to Rome. We know it was

Speaker 1: his will to go to Rome, but it could have

Speaker 1: been his permissive will. Maybe he permitted Paul to witness

Speaker 1: in Jerusalem. He says, Okay, now that you've done it here,

Speaker 1: I'm going to send you where I want you to go.

Speaker 1: And so, like I said, that could be just my speculation.

Speaker 1: into that. Maybe he did tell him to go to

Speaker 1: Jerusalem and I missed it. Amen. But as he went

Speaker 1: to Jerusalem, the prophets told him and warned him through

Speaker 1: the sphere that he was going to be bound, that

Speaker 1: hardship was awaiting him. And then we saw a murderous

Speaker 1: mob almost kill him, and God had to intervene and

Speaker 1: protect him with the Roman authorities. And also he was

Speaker 1: accused of defiling the temple. Paul wanted to fulfill all

Speaker 1: of the traditions in the ceremonies in the feast of

Speaker 1: the Jews, and in the midst of that they assumed

Speaker 1: he brought in a gentile into the temple area and

Speaker 1: accused him of a lot of things. And so we

Speaker 1: can see this opposition is warfare when people really don't

Speaker 1: know how to guard their hearts and minds. They don't

Speaker 1: know how to seek truth, that they're going to come

Speaker 1: up with assumptions, and they can potentially turn into a murderous,

Speaker 1: dangerous mob. And we see all this unfold in this chapter.

Speaker 1: So let's go ahead and dive in, starting at verse eleven.

Speaker 1: But the following night, the Lord stood by him and said,

Speaker 1: be of good cheer, Paul, for as you have testified

Speaker 1: for me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness

Speaker 1: at Rome. Amen. Now this is great encouragement that Jesus

Speaker 1: himself encouraged our apostle. He said, be of good cheer.

Speaker 1: have obviously been going through it. Maybe he was discouraged,

Speaker 1: Maybe he was battling depression. Maybe you know, you don't

Speaker 1: know what he was going through. But I believe that

Speaker 1: this was not the outcome that he wanted. He wanted

Speaker 1: to win his kinsmen in Jerusalem, and they just about

Speaker 1: murdered this man. But he gets encouragement, not from an angel,

Speaker 1: not from singing a song or listening to the radio.

Speaker 1: Jesus himself appears and he encourages him, and he says,

Speaker 1: you will go to Rome. Hallelujah. Now we know for

Speaker 1: certain that this is God's will, because Jesus himself is

Speaker 1: telling them to go to Rome. It's beautiful when God

Speaker 1: reveals purpose, when he reveals his plan and his strategy

Speaker 1: for our lives. Amen. We need to pray for that

Speaker 1: revelation straight from his throne. Amen. Verse twelve. And when

Speaker 1: it was day, some of the Jews band together and

Speaker 1: bound themselves under an oath, saying that they will neither

Speaker 1: eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. Now there

Speaker 1: were more than forty who had formed this conspiracy. Now

Speaker 1: I want you to notice here that these men were

Speaker 1: straight obsessed with Paul. They made a vow, they made

Speaker 1: a Oh. This is spiritual warfare. This is where Jesus said,

Speaker 1: the dire the desires of your father, the devil, is

Speaker 1: what you desire to do. Satan. Put this desire in

Speaker 1: their hearts. Forty men saying that they will not eat

Speaker 1: nor drink. Now, I don't know about you believe it,

Speaker 1: but I like to get my eat on and my

Speaker 1: drink on, you know what I'm saying. Who knows how

Speaker 1: long it would take before they could act as out,

Speaker 1: so they're willing to starve themselves. Now, of course they

Speaker 1: immediately go to the religious leaders, and we're gonna read

Speaker 1: about that, so that they could get into Paul's presence

Speaker 1: to attack him. But this is calculated, this is plotted out.

Speaker 1: This is a focused attack against Paul the Apostle, and

Speaker 1: the Bible says that this is a straight conspiracy. Now fourteen,

Speaker 1: they came to the chief priests in elders. Now these

Speaker 1: are supposed to be the religious leaders of the day,

Speaker 1: and they told them, we have bound ourselves under a

Speaker 1: great oath that we will eat nothing until we have

Speaker 1: killed Paul. Verse fifteen. Now, you, therefore, together with the council,

Speaker 1: suggests to the commander that he'd be brought down to

Speaker 1: you tomorrow, as though you were going to make further

Speaker 1: inquiries concerning him. But we are ready to kill him

Speaker 1: before he comes to you. Now, first of all, what

Speaker 1: makes them comfortable to think that they can come to

Speaker 1: their religious leaders. It's like going to your pastor plotting

Speaker 1: to murder somebody, or going to the elders in your

Speaker 1: church and saying, you know what, I wanna go rob

Speaker 1: a bank. I'm gonna go do this and do that.

Speaker 1: See titles don't mean anything. You can have a title,

Speaker 1: But what is a title? What does that mean? If

Speaker 1: you are living wickedly? If you are willing to consent

Speaker 1: to forty men that are plotting to murder somebody that

Speaker 1: even the Roman authorities can't find anything against them, or

Speaker 1: else they would have killed Paul right away. And the

Speaker 1: fact that he is a Roman citizen that they are

Speaker 1: afraid to even scourge him. But these religious leaders are

Speaker 1: going to go along with this plot. Religious without God

Speaker 1: can be dangerous verse sixteen. So when Paul's sister's son

Speaker 1: heard of their ambush, look at God's protection right here.

Speaker 1: He went and entered the barracks and told Paul Hallelujah.

Speaker 1: Then Paul called one of the centurions to him and said,

Speaker 1: take these young men to the commander, for he has

Speaker 1: something to tell him. So he took him and brought

Speaker 1: him to the commander and said, Paul. The prisoner called

Speaker 1: me to him and asked me to bring this young

Speaker 1: man to you. He has something to say to you.

Speaker 1: Then the commander took him by the hand, went aside

Speaker 1: and asked privately, what is it that you have to

Speaker 1: tell me? Now? I want you to notice something about Paul.

Speaker 1: The apostle. When he heard this news, he did not delay.

Speaker 1: He did not say, oh, I need to pray about it. No,

Speaker 1: he acted. He prayed and he put action to it.

Speaker 1: He called the commander and he said, hey, take this

Speaker 1: young man. I mean, he called the centurion and he said,

Speaker 1: take this young man to the commander or he has
13:53
Speaker 1: something to say to him. Now, God definitely wants a

Speaker 1: to pray about situations and circumstances, but he also wants

Speaker 1: us to take action. Sometimes we have to take action.

Speaker 1: We have to act upon the revelation and information that

Speaker 1: God has given us. Amen. Just the other day, I

Speaker 1: got a notice that I had to address a bill

Speaker 1: that's been overdue. Immediately I was able to pull up

Speaker 1: the bill, pull up the situation, and pay it, even

Speaker 1: though I pray for God's provision, even though I pray

Speaker 1: for God to provide. If I don't pay the bill,

Speaker 1: then how is it going to be a blessing and

Speaker 1: obedience on mind? And this is the way God chooses

Speaker 1: to act on our behalf. Amen. So Paul didn't delay,

Speaker 1: He didn't waste any time. He sent the young boy

Speaker 1: to the commander, and then the commander took him to

Speaker 1: the side and that was favor. God will send help

Speaker 1: from unexpecting places, and man, his nephew just happened to

Speaker 1: be at the right place at the right time. And

Speaker 1: thank God that they didn't know that that was Paul's

Speaker 1: nephew when they were speaking about the situation. It doesn't

Speaker 1: give us his age. In my mind, I imagine like

Speaker 1: a little, you know, kid, maybe like eleven or eight

Speaker 1: years old or something like that, ten years old, but

Speaker 1: I mean, he knows he could have been a grown man.

Speaker 1: I didn't see his age here. But his nephew was

Speaker 1: able to be within earshot of this plot. And thank

Speaker 1: God that his nephew had a heart for Paul. For

Speaker 1: his nephew immediately went to report and tell him so

Speaker 1: hopefully because he was a believer a man Verse nineteen.

Speaker 1: Then a commander took him by the hand and went

Speaker 1: aside and asked privately, what is it that you have

Speaker 1: to tell me, And he said, the Jews have agreed

Speaker 1: to ask that you bring Paul down to the council tomorrow,

Speaker 1: as though they were going to inquire more fully about him.

Speaker 1: Now in order for them to kill Paul, think about it,

Speaker 1: they're going to have to kill the soldiers as well,

Speaker 1: possibly even the commander, because they were assigned for Paul's protection.

Speaker 1: They were his escort because he was their prisoner and

Speaker 1: under their protection, so that they could go to the

Speaker 1: councils and that they can go and examine him. So

Speaker 1: it wasn't just Paul's life in danger here. I believe

Speaker 1: this commander the centurions of Roman soldiers were in danger

Speaker 1: as well. And then he warns them, but do not

Speaker 1: yield to them for their for more than forty of

Speaker 1: them lie and wait for him, men who have bound

Speaker 1: themselves by an oath that they will neither eat nor

Speaker 1: drink until they have killed him. And now they are

Speaker 1: ready waiting for the promise from you. Amen. Now this

Speaker 1: shows us a few things. First of all, these men

Speaker 1: are under an oath. Now, of course we can read

Speaker 1: this story out and we can discover that they were

Speaker 1: never able to fulfill that oath. So did they like

Speaker 1: die of starvation? Did they break the oath? And once

Speaker 1: they realized that they couldn't get Paul, they just broke

Speaker 1: the oath and just decided to eat anyway. And I

Speaker 1: don't know is there punishment in those days for breaking

Speaker 1: an oath? I don't know, or did they just or

Speaker 1: were they that committed to this oath to where they

Speaker 1: just allowed themselves to starve to death. I don't know,

Speaker 1: that's a question. I'm just going out there some of

Speaker 1: the possibilities that could have happened. And also, like I

Speaker 1: mentioned that this is demonic, this is obsession. These men

Speaker 1: were saying that they were not They were obsessed over Paul.

Speaker 1: They were not going to eat until this man was dead,

Speaker 1: and it was forty of them. And then also they

Speaker 1: could not do this without the promise of the commander.

Speaker 1: The commander had to be a part of this conspiracy,

Speaker 1: this plot, and they were trying to do it without

Speaker 1: him knowing. They were trying to trick him into it.

Speaker 1: And so this is where we need to pray for

Speaker 1: a discernment, beloved. This is where we need to pray

Speaker 1: and ask God's favor and ask God's grace to reveal

Speaker 1: unto us any plot, any scheme, any plan of the enemy.

Speaker 1: And I want to even say, even now in our day,

Speaker 1: when there is so much uncertainty, we know that because

Speaker 1: she entity is at the doorstep of being kicked out

Speaker 1: of the United States, you know eventually they are going

Speaker 1: to outlaw our faith. Beloved, they are going to try

Speaker 1: to get rid of our Bibles, and everyone who has

Speaker 1: a living trust and hope in Jesus Christ will come

Speaker 1: under persecution in our nation. It's written, we can see

Speaker 1: all things are headed this way. And so imagine if

Speaker 1: forty men can swear an oath like this thousands of

Speaker 1: years ago, imagine what they could do now and what

Speaker 1: they're ploting today. We have governments plotting against Christians. It's

Speaker 1: already outlawed in other countries. It's all around the world.

Speaker 1: It just hasn't hit the United States yet. We need

Speaker 1: to open up our eyes. We need to wake up,

Speaker 1: and we need to really realize that we need to

Speaker 1: have discernment. We know that we want society to cheer

Speaker 1: us on, and you know, we're trying to serve God.

Speaker 1: Our lives have improved, we're trying to become productive and

Speaker 1: better for our community in society. But the truth is

Speaker 1: they're not gonna cheer us on. They're gonna hate us

Speaker 1: for it. We gotta be willing to stand ten toes down,

Speaker 1: to love them, to forgive them, but never compromise the

Speaker 1: truth because God still has a people that we need

Speaker 1: to reach in this day and so don't allow as

Speaker 1: far as the scripture, and you know, my point is,

Speaker 1: don't allow people to manipulate you to accomplish evil and wickedness,

Speaker 1: things that you know are not God's plan, not the

Speaker 1: will of God, that does not represent God knowingly or unknownly.

Speaker 1: These religious leaders were willing to go through with this,

Speaker 1: but they were trying to trick this commander. Amen, all right,

Speaker 1: where are we at? The commander took him, all right,

Speaker 1: promise from you verse twenty two. So the commander let

Speaker 1: the young man depart and commanded him tell no one

Speaker 1: that you have revealed these things to me. Now, that

Speaker 1: was the commander protecting this young man. Hallelujah. So we

Speaker 1: can see that God is beginning to reveal this plot,

Speaker 1: this conspiracy and what these forty men, but they didn't

Speaker 1: know realized that Jesus himself told Paul that he was

Speaker 1: going to go to Rome. So this plot wasn't going

Speaker 1: to work anyway. If God said it, he will do it.
