- 0:00Speaker 1: You know what I mean now is Danny island Film
- 0:01Speaker 1: a definitely farm minister and is really ambassador to the US.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Good to see again. Thanks very much for your time
- 0:07Speaker 1: this evening. How confident are you that the cease far
- 0:11Speaker 1: will hold and all of the hostages will be released?
- 0:15Speaker 2: Well, Jonathan, at this moment, I am more hopeful than
- 0:19Speaker 2: knowledgeable about what will happen. I think this is a
- 0:22Speaker 2: great achievement of President Trump and the United States diplomacy.
- 0:28Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, you know, the devil,
- 0:31Speaker 2: as we say, is in the details. For US israelis
- 0:35Speaker 2: we are all holding our breath until Monday to see
- 0:41Speaker 2: all the hostages back and hopefully you know, after almost
- 0:45Speaker 2: two years languishing in the tunnels, it would be very
- 0:49Speaker 2: very difficult rehabilitation. So this is where we are now.
- 0:54Speaker 2: After that, we would like to see implementation of the plan,
- 1:00Speaker 2: whereby it is to dismantle the infrastructure of Hamas in
- 1:06Speaker 2: terms of the tunnels and of course their weapons, and
- 1:11Speaker 2: then the construction of Gaza, which is also dependent upon that,
- 1:15Speaker 2: and the day after in Gaza should be as we
- 1:17Speaker 2: all understand that there would be a new regime which
- 1:21Speaker 2: will not include the terrorist organization, the HAMAS.
- 1:27Speaker 1: We spoke to a senior spokesperson from HAMAS yesterday on
- 1:31Speaker 1: Sky News who said that HAMAS simply isn't prepared to
- 1:36Speaker 1: fully disarm. How serious is that as a situation given
- 1:41Speaker 1: where we are.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Well, it will be very serious. And of course what
- 1:47Speaker 2: could really bridge between this, let's say these two opposite
- 1:51Speaker 2: stances would be maybe time over time. And here also
- 1:56Speaker 2: we should give a chance to the governing committed, which
- 2:01Speaker 2: of course is headed the chairman is President Trump himself,
- 2:05Speaker 2: but basically on a day to day basis, it will
- 2:09Speaker 2: be former Prime Minister Blair, which is very much respected
- 2:15Speaker 2: here in Israel and in the region. So it will
- 2:18Speaker 2: be up to him and to the people under him,
- 2:21Speaker 2: including maybe some skipping force which will be an international one,
- 2:25Speaker 2: maybe Arab countries, maybe more than just Arab countries, and
- 2:30Speaker 2: they will have the task of fulfilling the agreement.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Of course, it will be golf countries. As you say,
- 2:36Speaker 1: you will need to provide what will be billions of
- 2:40Speaker 1: pounds to rebuild Gaza. But of course in order for
- 2:44Speaker 1: them to give that money to give those reassurances, they're
- 2:47Speaker 1: going to want guarantees, aren't they that the cease far
- 2:50Speaker 1: will remain in place, and yet we've heard from benjaminssan
- 2:54Speaker 1: Yahoo saying that he can't necessarily give those guarantees in full.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Well, I think the guarantee is conditional. That is, if
- 3:04Speaker 2: indeed the implementation of this agreement will go smoothly, then
- 3:11Speaker 2: there shouldn't be any question about Israel doing anything in Gaza.
- 3:16Speaker 2: We do not want to be in Gaza. We are
- 3:19Speaker 2: most Israelis, ninety percent of Israelis are happy that we
- 3:23Speaker 2: are out of Gaza. We also feel bad, not just
- 3:27Speaker 2: for our own hostages, but also the people of Gaza.
- 3:30Speaker 2: As you mentioned, Jonathan, they'll come back to ruins. But again,
- 3:33Speaker 2: who is responsible for all of that is the Hamas.
- 3:36Speaker 2: This is why we also hope that the people of Gaza,
- 3:39Speaker 2: who were held hostage by Hamas for the last two years,
- 3:43Speaker 2: for sure, maybe they from within Gaza will not allow
- 3:50Speaker 2: Hamas to continue and govern or even all their arms.
- 3:56Speaker 1: The twenty point plan is pretty very it on many
- 4:01Speaker 1: of the points that you've just talked about. As you say,
- 4:06Speaker 1: a lot of credit goes to Donald Trump for getting
- 4:08Speaker 1: us to this stage, but it is going to be
- 4:11Speaker 1: very difficult, very fragile over coming days and indeed coming months.
- 4:16Speaker 1: What do you think the main sticking points for you
- 4:19Speaker 1: will be.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Well, I think at this point will be the dismantling
- 4:23Speaker 2: of Hamas and take you know, letting them or taking
- 4:28Speaker 2: their arms. This could be a long time. I think
- 4:32Speaker 2: that Israel does or will have the patience if we
- 4:36Speaker 2: see a credible process starting. We understand it's not going
- 4:40Speaker 2: to be overnight. But if a credible process will start,
- 4:44Speaker 2: then I think we have a good hope for implementation.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And we have to remember that this is just phase
- 4:53Speaker 2: one of a much major plan. I mean, the reconstruction
- 4:58Speaker 2: of Gaza is very important, but that should lead also
- 5:02Speaker 2: to a new regional architecture whereby there is peace between Israel,
- 5:07Speaker 2: Saudi Arabia and all the other Arab countries, and of
- 5:10Speaker 2: course the Palestinians would also need to have a place
- 5:15Speaker 2: at the table and a political process with them as well.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And looking even further ahead than that, where do you
- 5:22Speaker 1: stand on the idea of a two state solution?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Well, I believe that this is something that has to
- 5:27Speaker 2: be discussed, and I believe most Israelis would not oppose
- 5:33Speaker 2: to that, as they did not opposed to that back
- 5:35Speaker 2: in ninety three when the Oslo process started, eighty percent
- 5:38Speaker 2: of Israelis were for two state solutions. But what happened
- 5:40Speaker 2: was that when the Tifata started and we realized that
- 5:45Speaker 2: the Palatina authority was not only corrupt but continued with terrorism,
- 5:51Speaker 2: that kind of changed our views. But if really the
- 5:55Speaker 2: Palestine and also the call Jonathan, all the program calls
- 5:59Speaker 2: for also ref form in the Palatine authority that means
- 6:03Speaker 2: changing the curriculum, not spewing hatred and not teaching and
- 6:07Speaker 2: then inciting and of course stopping and supporting financing for terror,
- 6:13Speaker 2: then I think there is a good chance for it.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Okay, well, we keep our fingers crossed, of course, that
- 6:19Speaker 1: all the hostages are safely released and the cease far
- 6:22Speaker 1: it's maintained. Daniel Island, Israeli diplomat, Thank you so much.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Thank you, Jonathan,
