Latest / Rik and that Michele Chick / Knee Deep, Cheap Seats, and Rich People Conceit
Transcript
- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41I wanted to give you a knee specialist update.
- 0:44I saw them last week and and hand delivered my X-rays.
- 0:50They did their own X-rays and unfortunately my knee is shot.
- 0:56Basically they basically said the same thing.
- 0:58If both sides hadn't been losing joint space they could have done
- 1:03something but but because both sides have significant joint
- 1:09space loss there is not really anything they can do.
- 1:15They did suggest that I try and like the you know the gel
- 1:19injections, the hyaluronic to help prolong or put off having a
- 1:25knee replacement. But it does look like a knee
- 1:27replacement is in my future. I will try the injections, but
- 1:32the injections are for mild to moderate knee issues, arthritis,
- 1:38that kind of thing. So I don't really know how much
- 1:41good they're going to do, but I'll try them to see if they can
- 1:44buy me some time. Otherwise I will have to go see
- 1:47the surgeon over there about getting a knee replacement.
- 1:50So crazy. Not great news.
- 1:53That's not, that's not, that's not great news.
- 1:55I'm, no, it's kind of sad, but I'm, you know, I'm young, but
- 2:02they said that the knee joints are lasting a good like 15 to 20
- 2:05years now, so. I'm glad you'll be dead by the
- 2:08time that's. No, I feel like 70 in like 20
- 2:12years, like 71. So I just have to have a
- 2:15revision basically so. How, how, how long do you think
- 2:19you're going to live till? I hope past 70 wait.
- 2:22You think so? Into my 80s, yeah, I think.
- 2:25How long do you think you're going to live?
- 2:27I think the crazy thing is, well the crazy thing is none of us
- 2:30know like no like every like it's crazy that every day
- 2:36someone who think you think who's going to live forever
- 2:38passes away and then some and then someone there that's
- 2:41smoking, you know, 2 packs a day and eating or 102.
- 2:46So you're really, you really don't know.
- 2:49So for me, my dad passed away at 71, my real dad and my real mom
- 2:56passed away at 68. But they were heavy smokers and
- 3:00heavy drinkers, whereas I've done, I've done none of that.
- 3:04So, so. But again, I could have a heart
- 3:05attack and keel over right now. You could.
- 3:07While we're doing this podcast, so I always think about, I
- 3:11always think the big thing I think about is, is the age
- 3:14difference between Megan and I because we're because she's nine
- 3:17years difference. Right.
- 3:19So, so I'm already like, and then I thought about it like I
- 3:22was driving. This is just how morbid I am.
- 3:25So I'm driving down the road coming, coming home from work,
- 3:28you know, and I think, well, if I died today, she could probably
- 3:33take my because she gets my 4-O1K.
- 3:35And your life insurance? I have like what I have one year
- 3:40salary of life insurance. Oh, Jay has a lot of life.
- 3:43Of course. Well, he makes a lot of money.
- 3:44I don't. I make nothing.
- 3:45So I make nothing, but she gets, I mean, she gets my 4 O1 Ki have
- 3:51some mutual funds. I have some stock.
- 3:52I mean, I have, I have, I have little things, nothing that no
- 3:55one cares about. But I thought to myself that
- 3:58it's like, and this is not, you know, like, let let's say I got
- 4:01cancer and that drained anything and everything that I have,
- 4:05which is very little anyway, right?
- 4:07I think I'd rather just keel over and not to be morbid, I
- 4:10just think I'd rather just keel over from like just be dead
- 4:13rather than have some some long illness.
- 4:16Trying out. Well, because I because I want
- 4:18my wife to have what I mean what little I have, I want her to
- 4:21have it. So I would hate, I would hate to
- 4:23get ill and then be a 10 year thing where you're now you're
- 4:28just broke. You can't work medical bills in
- 4:31America bankrupt people all the time.
- 4:35I think about, you know, I think about myself in terms of what if
- 4:39I was in a wheelchair, you know, can I still do radio?
- 4:42What if I had no limbs? Can I still do radio?
- 4:45I think about all the time. I think about what if I'm blind?
- 4:48If I suddenly went blind like and I'm trying to be on the air,
- 4:51would someone help me or would I just, or would that be the end
- 4:54of it? Would I have to take the $500
- 4:56dollar a month disability check and that'd be the end of me?
- 4:59I mean. It's because the computer can't
- 5:00read you the song title and then you.
- 5:02No, I mean, I could still, I mean, I'm not, I, I don't have
- 5:06talent like Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles or Ronnie Milsap or they
- 5:11could sit there blind and play the piano.
- 5:12I don't have any of those skill sets.
- 5:14I mean, this is it, this this one thing that we're doing is
- 5:18about it. But I, I think I need my
- 5:19eyesight. Oh, and I need my hearing.
- 5:21Yeah, yeah, yeah. So.
- 5:23So there's a couple things that luckily I have all those things,
- 5:26but I, I think about like man and I, so I, these are things I
- 5:29think about daily, not, not just in a whim.
- 5:31I usually when I'm in the shower, when I'm driving down
- 5:34the road, it's the same thing as when I see a guardrail.
- 5:36I'm like, oh, I wonder if I should hit this guardrail.
- 5:38So. So my brain works works like
- 5:40that, but but right now I'm at that point in my thinking that I
- 5:45I wouldn't want to cost my I wouldn't want to cost my wife
- 5:47any money, right. So if I just killed over dead,
- 5:50that would be good for all of us.
- 5:52Right. No, no prolonged anything.
- 5:54Just just let me. Just let me go.
- 5:56Yeah. So, so when I'm thinking about
- 5:59your knee, I, I, you know, the minute I thought about your knee
- 6:01replacement, the all I get in my head is a picture of you on this
- 6:04little trolley, you know, pushing this, pushing that, you
- 6:08know, little scooter. No, with knee replacements, they
- 6:11want you up and walking. OK.
- 6:13I would have a Walker, but I would be like, OK.
- 6:18So or, or you're at the at the the Walmart in the in the
- 6:21electric. Scooter chair, What around?
- 6:24Yeah, what? Do they?
- 6:25What do they call those things? I think they are like a little
- 6:28electric wheelchair with a little basket on the front and
- 6:32yeah. Do you ever, do you ever
- 6:34question people that are in the wheelchairs at all?
- 6:37I mean, I don't walk up and ask him.
- 6:39I don't, I don't say crap to him.
- 6:40I'm just saying do you have a question like, hey, why is that?
- 6:43Why is that person in a wheelchair?
- 6:44No, because. You know I know.
- 6:47Yeah, they're. Hang on, I'm going to go.
- 6:52I knew he'd do that. Hang on.
- 6:56I think the mail comes at this time almost all the time.
- 7:00Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, or, or, you
- 7:05know, because my wife and I've got into this conversation about
- 7:07like, we'll see the disabled placard.
- 7:10Right. And not that I and she says I'm
- 7:12just way too judgmental. You go, she goes, you're just
- 7:14way so judgmental. I'm not judgmental.
- 7:16I I'm proud of the fact that I could get out of my car and walk
- 7:19into the store. But there are people that you
- 7:22can't see their disabilities. Totally.
- 7:27And just because they need to park in the handicapped and you
- 7:31see them walking doesn't mean that there isn't something.
- 7:35Megan will tell you so here's the deal.
- 7:37Here's this is as as truthful as I can be.
- 7:41Megan will tell you how judge mental I am by the fact when I'm
- 7:44going down the interstates and I'm doing 5 over right and then
- 7:50I get passed by somebody who who has a disabled placard on I get
- 7:55I get pissed because #1 when I'm driving down the.
- 7:59Road can't speed what? So #1 when I'm driving on the
- 8:03road, I'm leader of the pack. Yes.
- 8:07So I'm so I'm 5 overs, I'm five over religiously.
- 8:10I'm not trying to speed, but but I am 5 over, right.
- 8:13And then somebody comes ripping by who's supposed to be
- 8:16handicapped with their little blue placard.
- 8:19And, and I, she, she sees me go irate every single time.
- 8:23Because to me it's like, if you're handicapped, I'm just
- 8:28saying what, why are you speeding?
- 8:30Why are you being crazy? Why are you ripping?
- 8:32You know, so you don't know their ailment.
- 8:35You don't know why you don't know you're so judgmental.
- 8:39But, but don't do you? Have you?
- 8:41Do you ever say? Do you ever spend your life
- 8:43questioning these things, Michelle?
- 8:44No, no can't. Handicapped people are capable
- 8:47of speeding too, so I don't know.
- 8:49I know, but but it but it frobs me.
- 8:51I get upset about it. I do.
- 8:53I'm like really, really. I mean and I'm not talking about
- 8:56just going 5 over why, why? I mean I'm already speeding.
- 8:59I'm already. So they're doing a good like
- 9:0010/15/20 over depending on how fast they are going.
- 9:05Great, yes. Yeah, I'm like, I'm just saying,
- 9:09it's like. I know people who have
- 9:11disabilities that aren't visible, sure, who have
- 9:15handicapped stickers. So I understand from that point
- 9:18of view because I see it first hand with those people.
- 9:21So I'm. Not taking, I'm not taking away
- 9:23anything away from anybody that does that.
- 9:24But I also know, same as you, that people use other people's
- 9:27placards too. Like they'll like, I'm like, I'm
- 9:31borrowing Dad's car. Oh, hey, by the way, guys.
- 9:33And they pull up like I've got the handicap thing.
- 9:35Yeah. And then they then they pull
- 9:36into a handicap spot and they walk into the store.
- 9:39Right. Yeah.
- 9:40So I'm, I'm just saying for that my, my pet peeve, as Megan will
- 9:44tell you, is getting passed in the freeway by somebody with a
- 9:47handicap placard. OK, I think you're just mad
- 9:50because someone is passing you. On.
- 9:52Well, that too, but that too. Because I'm Don't you ever think
- 9:56of yourself as leader of the pack.
- 9:58No, not anymore because I'm like, I don't need to get a
- 10:01ticket. Why that will have?
- 10:02To set my cruise control because I will do more than five over if
- 10:06I'm not paying. Attention Oh yes, I I, I've
- 10:08always been a leadfoot, so I I have me too.
- 10:10I have to religiously nowadays, I do set the cruise and I try
- 10:14not to, I try not to let for me, driving is a big anxiety thing
- 10:19because I just get I not, not once I get irritated, but it's
- 10:23like, I don't know, I just it, it, I think it's getting, I
- 10:27think I think people are becoming more and more shitty
- 10:31drivers. Oh yeah.
- 10:33Do you think so? Yes.
- 10:35Oh I used to get road rage all the time but that was like 10
- 10:39years ago and I've had to just try to be Zen about it and yell
- 10:44at people. While I'm driving I really
- 10:45believe that the the phone has added to it people complete
- 10:51assholes. Yeah, yes.
- 10:53Period. Like there's no respect.
- 10:55There's not. People aren't respectful anymore
- 10:58when you're driving all these different things because I think
- 11:01they're so locked into their phone, you know, and, and when
- 11:06people say, Oh, well, they're not on their phone, yeah, they
- 11:08are. You can be on your phone without
- 11:11it being visible. Exactly.
- 11:13On your phone? Oh my God, they've got view
- 11:14screens. They got freaking computer
- 11:16screens now. And bullshit, you know I did.
- 11:18That, but you can't. You can't watch things on those.
- 11:22While you're. Driving I.
- 11:24Mean, yeah, but but when you're driving down the road, you see
- 11:26it plopped up, you know? You don't know, but you don't
- 11:29know what they're doing, no. But.
- 11:31You don't. You don't.
- 11:33The ones that are built in the cars have, you cannot watch
- 11:38things like on them, like it it's enabled, like you cannot do
- 11:43it. Like you can't watch like a
- 11:45movie or YouTube or whatever it is on them.
- 11:48So yeah, I mean, unless there's some way around it, I don't
- 11:51know. That, yeah, my wife, Megan, I
- 11:53mean, she number one, she listens to a lot of audio books
- 11:55these days. But yeah, I mean, she she also
- 11:58has put whatever Harry Potter on now, she may not be watching it,
- 12:02but she's listening to it. Right.
- 12:04You know, but people are probably.
- 12:06Listening to a. Podcast Drive the car.
- 12:08I'm like hello drive the car so. So anyway.
- 12:13Honey, drive the car. Didn't you see that disabled
- 12:15person pass us? Yeah.
- 12:17Oh, I get Oh my God, don't get me, don't get me.
- 12:19I mean, is that, and I'm not trying to be judgmental about
- 12:22it. I'm just like, I'm like, why the
- 12:24hell are you speeding? If you're crippled, Why the F
- 12:27are you speeding? That's all.
- 12:28That's why I had this all my. Question, just like the rest of
- 12:31us. So yeah, OK, let's move on.
- 12:36We found out this week that Jackson cannot graduate from UW.
- 12:43Not yet. Was he supposed to graduate?
- 12:46Yes, he's supposed to graduate next month.
- 12:49But he's not been there for years.
- 12:51Yes, he has What? And he did running start what?
- 12:55So he isn't he's missing a class.
- 12:59It is the foreign language, the sign language, because he took
- 13:05ALS or whatever it is ASL one. And.
- 13:10Two yes, American Sign Language. 1.
- 13:13ASL he took that at YVC for running start because you have
- 13:20to have, you know, your foreign language credit to get your
- 13:23bachelor's. So he took that.
- 13:25Well, he just found out that he has to take one O 3, and so now
- 13:30he cannot graduate. You could graduate.
- 13:33Well, UW lets you graduate if you're missing a class, but
- 13:36you're going to take that class in the summer.
- 13:39And because it's sign language, three, they only.
- 13:42So they do it in order. So 1 is in the fall, 2 is in the
- 13:47winter. So 3 is going to be in the
- 13:50springtime of 2027. So he can't take it until then.
- 13:55So he can't walk at graduation. And we have people coming from
- 14:00Arkansas. We have all this.
- 14:01Yeah, so, but there's also a wedding that they're also coming
- 14:05to. So I mean, they're still all
- 14:07going to come up. I mean, he feels really bad.
- 14:09He which why his advisor didn't catch this, but these advisors
- 14:13sometimes are worthless at the colleges.
- 14:17But he talked to his advisor, he talked to the people in
- 14:19humanities, he talked to the sign language teacher to try and
- 14:23figure something out so that he could at least walk at
- 14:25graduation. But no, what's that?
- 14:28What's not going to happen? What's his degree going to be
- 14:30in? Economics and you need.
- 14:33To learn sign language for economics.
- 14:35Well, you have to have a foreign language.
- 14:36You have to have your foreign language credit.
- 14:38And so he's missing. That one class, so American Sign
- 14:40Language, counts. Yes it does.
- 14:43No, that no I understand exactly.
- 14:45Which is what Shaylee has hers in, too.
- 14:47In sign language. So which they they do sign
- 14:50language and we can't really understand them, I bet.
- 14:52And it irritates me. Yeah, Yeah.
- 14:57Did you take foreign language in high school?
- 14:59At all? No.
- 15:02Saying I no horrible. I have no I have no I I barely
- 15:06do English. I've tried to start Duolingo on
- 15:09and learning Spanish but it is slow, it is rough, it is rough.
- 15:14I feel like, you know what, like what they say when you're
- 15:17younger, it's easier to pick up. Different languages?
- 15:19I bet it is. And I think now that we're
- 15:22older, it's a lot more difficult, at least for me.
- 15:25I don't know. When you think about certain
- 15:27things, there's certain skills. It was interesting, like there's
- 15:31certain skills. I absolutely try to avoid an in
- 15:33school and I don't have any skills so I so I can't type
- 15:38right. So I so I'm I'm much more a hunt
- 15:40and pecker. Right.
- 15:42You know. I'm great at it either.
- 15:43No, but I can do. I could probably do, let's say
- 15:472020 words a minute. You know, I'm saying I'm not
- 15:49fast by any means, but because I have to write a lot of content
- 15:52these days. So I still, you know, it's
- 15:54probably 2020 words a minute, but Megan, my wife can just
- 15:57boop, boop, boop, boop, boop, boop.
- 15:58You know, she has a degree in English and she can just do it.
- 16:00So, so I think about, I think about things like foreign
- 16:04language. I sucked at typing.
- 16:06I sucked at man, I was, I'm worthless.
- 16:09I am actually, you know, as worthless as they come, so.
- 16:12Can you draw or your art? Didn't you draw?
- 16:14I'm Marxistic, yes, I so yes, I'm yes.
- 16:17So I took a lot of I took a lot of art classes.
- 16:22Writing. I can.
- 16:23I can write. Just not, I'm not just not just
- 16:26not. I wrote a book.
- 16:27Yeah. No, I can write.
- 16:29I write content all day. I just I never we can.
- 16:31Dictate to AI to write things for us like we don't care
- 16:34necessarily. Help tape it all out.
- 16:37Yes, yeah. Well, it was funny.
- 16:39So when I was, so when you took what they called the ASVAB test,
- 16:43they'd come take an ASVAB and say what?
- 16:46What? This is before radio, but what
- 16:49occupation you'd be great at? Mine was politician, minister,
- 16:55minister, counselor, counselor, different things like that.
- 17:00And it was funny is 70% of my skill set, 70% of my skill set
- 17:04was verbal and and I can horrific on math.
- 17:09They said no, yeah, me too. Nothing.
- 17:11You're not. Don't don't even bother.
- 17:13Yeah, I mean, I don't even know if I could be a good cashier at
- 17:16the grocery store. I think nowadays it's a lot
- 17:19easier, but because. It's not a lot of people are
- 17:22using cash anymore, so. Right, Well, count it back.
- 17:25I think that that you can scan it and I think it adds it up.
- 17:28I mean, it's totally different. But but when I grew up with the
- 17:31bogans, my mom taught me to count cash back, you know, and
- 17:37you had to do it in your head. I mean, this is like you said,
- 17:40the older I get, I can't do any. I, I, I did it as a kid, right?
- 17:45I could do it, but I can't do, I can't do it now.
- 17:47I'm like, well, how do you do those things?
- 17:49So, so yeah, no foreign language like you said, no sign language.
- 17:53I, you know, my foster sister used to, used to talk in pig
- 17:57Latin. Do you know what pig Latin is?
- 17:59Yes, that's not so real language.
- 18:01I know, but I but but my foster mom and my foster sister would
- 18:05go out to web whatever, like you know, now I knew when they were
- 18:09talking about me about Christmas presents because I could kind of
- 18:12make out not to say what the presents were, but I knew they
- 18:14were talking about me in terms because, because, because in pig
- 18:17Latin Virgil. Well, that's going to be still
- 18:19right. That's a unique name, and no
- 18:21matter how your pig, Latin. That name up.
- 18:23It's still I know when you're talking about Virgil.
- 18:26You can't disguise that. You can't disguise it like it's
- 18:30like, So it's interesting. When I took Spanish in like
- 18:32junior high, I had to be Tim Oteo because there's no Spanish
- 18:36version of version. There's none.
- 18:38So the so misses Chavez was like, you're going to be Tim
- 18:41Oteo. I'm like, what the fuck's a Tim
- 18:43Oteo? Did you ever take Spanish in
- 18:46junior high? No, I did not take anything.
- 18:50Oh, you did? Oh.
- 18:51X wasn't even an F, wasn't even an F, it was X So poor Jackson.
- 19:00So we got people coming in. Yeah.
- 19:02So, yeah, so. People are going to come no
- 19:03matter, right? Because there's a wedding.
- 19:04Yeah. So, but, but he's not going to
- 19:07be able to walk even lacking that one class, no.
- 19:10So he's going to have to wait till next spring to take this.
- 19:12Class to take it and then submit.
- 19:14He'll still get his degree from UW even if he takes it at YVCC.
- 19:18He could take the three class at YVC and then it will transfer to
- 19:22UW and then that will make it so that he can graduate from UW.
- 19:26So if he wants to walk, it's going to have to be next summer.
- 19:30Interesting, so even though he has his degree early would would
- 19:33they give him his degree now? I mean, he could get it like
- 19:36like if he takes that sign language three class in the
- 19:39springtime and passes and then he he can get his degree.
- 19:43He has to. So.
- 19:44So no matter what, without this class he does not get his
- 19:47degree. Correct.
- 19:48OK. So, so and the only time that's
- 19:51available is this coming. Spring so.
- 19:53He's got, so basically he's got a year.
- 19:55Yeah, at UW or at YBC, it's both in the springtime because again
- 19:59like it goes 1-2 and then three so and they don't regardless of
- 20:03where he takes it because. He already did 1 and 2 right?
- 20:05Yeah, and regardless of where he takes it, it will still qualify.
- 20:10So my question to you is, of course, can he take, can he take
- 20:14any other language class or? No, because he has to start all
- 20:18over, right? Yeah, they just want your money.
- 20:22Well, I mean. It's ridiculous.
- 20:24It's ridiculous. So, so I'm not going to go on a
- 20:27tangent, but I am, I am a huge fan.
- 20:29I understand. I get that they want you to have
- 20:32a rounded education. I get that.
- 20:35So I've always been a big fan of high school should be the
- 20:39foundation, right? The foundation of what you do.
- 20:43Now, let's say you're really great at math, or let's say
- 20:45you're good at economic, whatever it is, you kind of
- 20:47decided to decide what you did once you get to college.
- 20:50I really believe college should be what your degree is going to
- 20:54be. And you know what I'm saying?
- 20:55Very specialized. If I'm going to be like you
- 20:57said, if I'm going to be an English teacher, all my courses
- 21:01should be towards in that degree, right?
- 21:05Not Oh well, you have to take pottery one O 1.
- 21:08Right, you have to take math one and two and.
- 21:11Right, right. I think I think if you're
- 21:14proficient in like in in certain things, it's like so I just
- 21:18think it's absurd that the the university is like, well, you
- 21:21got to take pottery one O 1 right.
- 21:23You're going to be an engineer like what?
- 21:25That says nothing to do with what I'm doing, you know, and.
- 21:27It's not like she doesn't have no he has the sign language 1
- 21:31and 2. So I don't see why they.
- 21:34Couldn't just be like, OK, you know.
- 21:36Sign off, sign off and off you go.
- 21:38Yes. It's crazy.
- 21:40So it's crazy. School.
- 21:42Schooling's crazy, Michelle. But he was super upset and
- 21:45crying and yeah, I don't blame. Them he's got to wait.
- 21:48Well, he's got to wait a year. These kids put a lot of work
- 21:51into school. It's not easy, so.
- 21:54I. Mean he was I think he was like
- 21:57he was afraid he was afraid that we were going to be mad and it's
- 22:00like it's not it's not your it's not your fault like sure,
- 22:05someone. Should advise the advisor.
- 22:08You know two of my two of my best buddies for high school
- 22:11were second year seniors. So no, they were they were
- 22:15second year seniors for me. So you know me well enough to
- 22:19know that I front loaded freshman, sophomore, we didn't
- 22:24have running start when I was a kid.
- 22:25So there was no, there was none of that when I was a kid.
- 22:27But I front loaded everything. So when I got to my senior year,
- 22:31it was it was played, you know, I had a couple classes, but it
- 22:34was basically, yeah, play time just get just get through the
- 22:39year basically because because I want, I want to get out there as
- 22:42soon as possible. I didn't, I did not want to be,
- 22:46I didn't want to be a second year senior.
- 22:48And and so yeah. And so I I front loaded
- 22:51everything, all the hard classes, but it was a lot
- 22:54different back than for you and I.
- 22:56Yeah, it was. It was so, but now nowadays they
- 22:59have running start, they get like they get a A degrees coming
- 23:02out of high school I. Mean, I mean he, I mean he and
- 23:05Matthew and Shaylee all did that so.
- 23:07Now back in our day from yeah, now back in our day from
- 23:11Washington State, we did have the advanced degree and the
- 23:14academic degree and then we had the general general diploma.
- 23:18So, so I was like, I just, I just I front loaded general
- 23:22diploma. I was like, I'm not doing
- 23:23advanced, I'm not doing academic.
- 23:25I didn't, I mean, I did go to, I did go to college just for that
- 23:28one brief moment. And I did get into college, but
- 23:32college was, I mean, college turned out not to be my pathway.
- 23:35Yeah. So, but poor, poor Jackson, I
- 23:37get it, I understand and letting you guys down and all that, but
- 23:41and he's got to wait a year and he's got to wait a year.
- 23:44So I guess when did you find out the news?
- 23:48Just he just told us Monday night so.
- 23:51So it's still sinking in. Yeah.
- 23:53So what? OK, so he's got to wait for the
- 23:55class. So is he going to work this
- 23:58summer and this fall? What's he going to do?
- 24:00I hope so. I mean, he's obviously going to
- 24:03have to move home. He's not going to stay in
- 24:04Seattle. There's no reason for him to
- 24:06stay in Seattle. So come on.
- 24:07Move. Home.
- 24:08Come on. Absolutely.
- 24:10Come on, mom. No, and he knows that, and he's
- 24:12fine with it. Yep, on Capitol Hill.
- 24:15But he does he. Up on Capitol Hill.
- 24:18No, he's right near the school, right off of like 45th and.
- 24:22You know you know Capitol Hill, right?
- 24:24I do, yes. OK, I I am, yes.
- 24:27Well, no, I'm just saying no, that that's that's a cool
- 24:30neighborhood and and and very pro LGBTQ.
- 24:34Yes, yeah. So I mean, even when I moved to
- 24:36Seattle in the late 90s, people were like, we I want to park
- 24:38Capitol Hill. Yeah.
- 24:40That looks there. No, it is absolutely.
- 24:42The posse's on Broadway, so it's sort of mixed a lot, a needle
- 24:48drop on that. So yeah, I mean, you know, so,
- 24:51yeah. So I was curious if if he wants
- 24:53to stay there to hang out with his buds or whatever.
- 24:56No, that's not happening. You guys have you guys have had
- 24:58that conversation already? Yeah, he already knows that he
- 25:02would like to to be an attorney, but he has to take the entrance
- 25:08exam for that, so he'll have to study.
- 25:11So maybe while he's waiting to take this sign language class,
- 25:15he can study for that, because he'll have to take that in order
- 25:18to get into law school. I'm so jealous.
- 25:20So but we want him to at least go and maybe job shadow at a law
- 25:27office or, you know, if you can't get an internship, just to
- 25:30make sure, like, OK, let's not like, yes, he says he wants to
- 25:35be an attorney. It would be civil law is what
- 25:37he's interested in. But it's like, let's make sure
- 25:40this is really what you would like to do instead of investing
- 25:43all this time into taking this entrance test and getting in and
- 25:48then a year in, you're like, I don't like this so.
- 25:51Yeah, because the the courtroom TV shows are nothing like really
- 25:55practicing law especially well, it depends on what you depends
- 25:59on what what you you know. Right, He would like to do with
- 26:02civil law. So I.
- 26:03Would say, I would say 99.9% of law, you know, being a lawyer
- 26:06can probably be pretty boring, make a lot of money, make a lot
- 26:10of money, you know, and, and that what the devil's in the
- 26:13details. Yeah.
- 26:15Definitely. I'm just, I'm just jealous.
- 26:18I'm just jealous. I'm just jealous you know you.
- 26:21You and your brainiac children. I mean.
- 26:24You have brainiac children, I mean.
- 26:25Just got lucky. I don't know is that it's got to
- 26:29be Jeanette. I mean, it's genetics.
- 26:31I just you. Know, I think I don't know I
- 26:34mean some people say it is genetics but it's like OK, well
- 26:37they didn't get it from me they must have got it from Jay so.
- 26:40Well, Jay is very Jay is super smart, is he not?
- 26:42Very analytical. He's he's very analytical.
- 26:45That's where the math comes from.
- 26:46Yeah. It's like, yeah, I mean, hey
- 26:49there again, there's nothing wrong with being creative.
- 26:51I mean, creative is, you know, there's, there's different
- 26:54levels of genius. You're saying I'm dumb.
- 26:56There's no. I'm saying there's different
- 26:59levels of genius. I mean, I mean, I look at, let's
- 27:01say Michael Jackson, you know, genius, genius, Prince, genius,
- 27:06you know, I mean, there's all these different levels of
- 27:09genius. There's there's no doubt about
- 27:11it. So, but, but your kids seem to
- 27:13have this, the extra, you know, they're biologists, they're
- 27:17lawyers, or that's what I mean. These are things that they're
- 27:19aspiring to be. Right.
- 27:21Matthew's a chemist. Shaylee wants to be a geneticist
- 27:25is what she her degree is going to be in.
- 27:27So yeah. And then Benjamin is a kid you'd
- 27:29have a beer with, so. No, he he is IT specialist.
- 27:34I'm. Kidding.
- 27:35Cybersecurity. I'm.
- 27:38Kidding. I'm kidding.
- 27:39Don't. I'm just joking.
- 27:40I'm just being funny. Guys don't.
- 27:42Don't take it though. It's going to make a comment
- 27:45like, hey, what are you talking about?
- 27:48No, absolutely no, absolutely no.
- 27:50I mean, no, I hear you. So no, he's IT takes a lot of a
- 27:53lot of intelligence and all the all the all your kids are super
- 27:57smart. So thanks, yeah, just.
- 27:58You know, like I said, you know, couldn't you have at least one
- 28:01bad apple, one bad egg in there so we can talk about him?
- 28:04I'm still talking about Logan, you know, and Kyra, you know.
- 28:11Somebody said like, you can't define your kids by what they do
- 28:17for a living or their career the other day that I read that you
- 28:21can't slap that label on them, that you just have to let them
- 28:25be people. So yeah.
- 28:27So it doesn't matter what they all do, as long as they're good
- 28:29people and. Yeah, no, actually, even though
- 28:32I make jokes about it. Yes, absolutely.
- 28:34I mean, absolutely. So I mean, being a radio, I mean
- 28:37it's funny is like everybody thinks being a radio DJ like,
- 28:41oh, that's the best job or how how much fun it's.
- 28:43Not. But it I mean it, I think it is.
- 28:46There are fun times about it, but it's not all fun and games
- 28:50though. Either but but it's but it's
- 28:52like it's funny when I go to Megan's friend's houses, it's
- 28:56not I don't I don't think like my brain doesn't think like that
- 28:59anyway. But but all of her friends have
- 29:02nicer homes than we do. I mean, if you were, and again,
- 29:06I don't know how you define nice, does that make nice home?
- 29:10Who? Who?
- 29:11Is that subjective? It is subjective.
- 29:13It is subjective. I mean.
- 29:15What's that? That's just you thinking that
- 29:17that. Doesn't mean that because
- 29:19remember, I'm still the same guy who thinks about hitting the
- 29:21guard rails. I'm going down the road so.
- 29:23After getting mad that handicapped people are.
- 29:25Skating opacity So so this this, This is why Logan's messed up
- 29:30because this is what Logan inherited.
- 29:32See, when you think about hey, why is Logan messed up?
- 29:34Well, right there, this is what he got.
- 29:37He's not messed up. So well, I'm just saying this is
- 29:39this is what you know, as as your kids got Jay's, you know,
- 29:42noggin, Logan got this noggin, and that's probably not a good
- 29:46noggin to get. I'm just saying.
- 29:48But but no, have you ever not been, I mean, well, you guys,
- 29:50you guys make a fairly and you guys make a great living.
- 29:54That's what we do, but we also have four children.
- 29:56Then I get it. No, I know need to pay for all
- 29:58the stuff so. But have you ever gone to
- 30:00somebody's? Have you?
- 30:01Well, I guess have you ever gone to somebody's house and go wow,
- 30:03they must make a lot of money. Yeah, like.
- 30:06How did yeah or like how do they afford this house or.
- 30:10You know, I'm most amazed. So I'm most amazed by the fact
- 30:15that people who have boats and campers and like multiples of
- 30:21those things and they've got AT VS and they've got Harleys and
- 30:26I'm like, but you know, and let I mean, I don't know, I mean.
- 30:30But and how do you afford all of that?
- 30:32Because that stuff is not cheap. And then the gas for that stuff
- 30:36now shit. Yeah, I think I think about
- 30:40little things like like, yeah, I mean, or even from even from a
- 30:43vacation standpoint. I know you guys do a lot of
- 30:45vacations thanks to Jay's work, you know, and you do your own
- 30:49vacation. Yeah, but but as long as I've
- 30:51known you, your vacations, even with the you make, you know,
- 30:54your husband makes good money. You don't do crazy, outrageous
- 30:58vacation. I've never seen you guys do an
- 30:59outrageous, crazy vacation. But I look up, but you go on
- 31:02Insta and you see somebody who's a receptionist and you're like,
- 31:04what the F? They're like in Greece, They're
- 31:06like in Turkey, Istanbul. No, I'm like where the fuck?
- 31:10I mean, there are ways to do things on the cheap, like you
- 31:14can still have a great vacation and not spend a boatload of
- 31:18money, so. I know you there are ways.
- 31:20Well, not in today. I mean, I don't know about today
- 31:22because it's absolutely outrageous and I'm, I'm, you
- 31:25know, and, and again, luckily, luckily I don't have, I've never
- 31:28had that kind of envy anyway, because because from where I
- 31:32standpoint, so, so for me, because I, I feel like I came
- 31:36from so far behind. Yeah.
- 31:38And I look at my siblings or I look at my own, my own family,
- 31:41my own close family. And I, I have an, I have an
- 31:46abundance of wealth. Right.
- 31:48You know, so, so I am so fortunate and so lucky.
- 31:52So even though I look at somebody else's house and go,
- 31:54man, that their, their house is newer, they've got a newer car,
- 31:58all these different things. I also look at at where I'm at
- 32:02in life and go very, I'm very grateful.
- 32:04Yeah. Because, because, because I have
- 32:07lots of things too. So, so I mean, so it's, I mean
- 32:11it's, I mean, I guess it's all relative.
- 32:13Yeah, it's all subjective. Yeah, it's all subjective.
- 32:17I always look at it like just just the fact that, you know,
- 32:20I'm come up, I'm come up on 3838 years in radio.
- 32:24That's people don't make, but people don't make it.
- 32:28I mean, no, that's a long, that's a long, that's a long
- 32:31career, you know, so, so, yeah, so very grateful.
- 32:35But I but I do look at other, I still do.
- 32:38I go to Megan's friends and go, jeez, this must be how the other
- 32:41house lives. You know.
- 32:44But then people. But then people come to our
- 32:45house and go, wow, you guys have a, you know, you have a big
- 32:48backyard or you have a big house.
- 32:50You've been to my house. Yes, I have a couple times.
- 32:53I call it the, I call it the Brady Bunch House.
- 32:55It's like it's 19. It's 1970.
- 32:57Yeah, because you came to the house warming party and stuff.
- 32:59Right. Yes.
- 33:01So I mean, it's a cool. Your house is nice so.
- 33:05For a DJI. Didn't say that.
- 33:10But but for but for. Yeah, but not as nice as the
- 33:12general manager's house. Well, of course not.
- 33:15I mean, right, they make the money.
- 33:18Right, exactly. So well, good luck to Jackson.
- 33:21I think, I think take the year to to to decide what what he
- 33:24wants to do. I think I I like what you guys
- 33:26said. Intern doing some internships.
- 33:28Yeah. You know, what did he, did he
- 33:31say what kind of lawyer lawyer he wanted to be?
- 33:33Civil. Oh, interesting.
- 33:35So I like that. Probably like.
- 33:38That's right. Yes, LGBTQ.
- 33:41That. Kind of thing.
- 33:42So, yeah, yeah. No, I love that.
- 33:44I think it'd be great. I've seen how he dresses
- 33:46sometimes. I'd love for him to go into
- 33:48court a little flamboyant like that.
- 33:49I'd love that. And he probably would.
- 33:52I I think it'd be hilarious so. Let Jackson know I didn't care.
- 33:56He would not I. Love it.
- 33:57Hey man, go and go and dress like Elton John.
- 33:59I'm all for that any day, any day of the week.
- 34:02I don't know if the judges would like.
- 34:03No, you need to be wearing. I That's a distraction in my
- 34:07courtroom. Seeing too, too.
- 34:09Seeing too many, too many. Cousin Vinny's, I guess.
- 34:11Right. The Utes the utes What are you
- 34:14wearing? What are you wearing when you.
- 34:17Yeah. OK, let's move on.
- 34:19My son Jack, my son Jack, my son Matthew.
- 34:21I'm getting my son's mixed up. But I mean, when they were
- 34:24little, I'd be like yelling all their names.
- 34:27So whoever was getting in trouble because I was getting
- 34:29the name wrong, but so Matthew text me on Monday.
- 34:34He was at the Demi Lovato concert in San Francisco and
- 34:39they had bought tickets, but they were like way, way, way up
- 34:42in the Nosebleed section. And he said the tickets were
- 34:45still like 60 bucks. But he said that because the
- 34:50there wasn't very many people in the venue, they were moving them
- 34:53down to kind of fill it in, to make it look like there was more
- 34:58people there. And I was like, oh, my gosh.
- 35:01I was like, I mean, that's great that you get to move down.
- 35:04Yeah. But I had read that a lot of
- 35:07these artists are having to cancel concerts because tickets
- 35:11are not selling. And I don't mean, like, the B or
- 35:15C artist. I read that it's like Post
- 35:17Malone, you know, like legit artists that normally would
- 35:22almost sell out a venue, kind of artists that, yeah, people just
- 35:27aren't buying tickets. I'm guessing they can't afford
- 35:29them. Well, I think that I think the
- 35:31inflation, the gas prices are just gotten now, they're just
- 35:34outrageous, right? I, I, we gave away Demi Lovato
- 35:39tickets. I don't know how it went.
- 35:40The radio station get our, our radio station giveaway Demi
- 35:41Lovato tickets. We've got Hilary Duff coming up.
- 35:44Oh nice. For White River Amphitheatre,
- 35:47Matthews musical taste definitely seems along the lines
- 35:49of what I like for sure. So but so we have Hilary Duff
- 35:53coming up, we've got Lionel Richie tickets, we've got
- 35:57Santana with The Doobie Brothers, we've got train.
- 36:01So I've I've been, I've been to events where they have moved.
- 36:06People. People up but and yeah, but I
- 36:09mean, usually when I see, I know things happen to bands, but
- 36:13usually when I see you know, so at work, they're cancelling the
- 36:16show. I'm like, ticket sells.
- 36:18Yeah. That's the first thing I think
- 36:20of, you know, even though they try to make it, you know, you
- 36:22know, unforeseen circumstances. Yes, they try and yeah, give
- 36:27some bullshit excuse, but we all know it's because tickets are
- 36:29not selling. Well, tickets are well look at
- 36:32OK, let's talk watershed. Watershed got cancelled this
- 36:36year and it may, it may never come back because I think what's
- 36:39happened is the price. And your friend Soul, who does
- 36:44listen to the podcast, We could probably tell you the cost of
- 36:46getting an artist. Yes, is outrageous.
- 36:49Is outrageous and well, Jay could tell you that he, you
- 36:51know, running, running the casino.
- 36:53Well that they get casino priced but which means they get it
- 36:57even. Jacked up.
- 36:58Yes, yeah. Someone, someone had said to me,
- 37:01now, I mean, Jay can correct me because I know he's in the
- 37:03casino business, But someone had said to me many years ago when I
- 37:07was in Bakersfield, CA, and I was, that was back in the day
- 37:10when I was hobnobbing with Trace Adkins and Chris Cagle and all
- 37:12those guys. And Chris Cagle had said that
- 37:15they loved casino money because casinos, Casinos, OK, so county
- 37:20fairs that, well, that's why, my gosh, Yakima doesn't have any
- 37:25acts for their 10 days. They can't afford them.
- 37:28Right, because casinos have priced them out of they said at
- 37:33least it have priced them out of county fairs and different.
- 37:38Things. Yeah, You know, so I think
- 37:42people don't realize it costs just as much to bring an artist
- 37:44as it does to do the whole back line.
- 37:47Yeah, yeah. So when you bring an artist.
- 37:48So let's say you bring an artist for $50,000.
- 37:51Well now it's $50,000 on top because you have to.
- 37:54The lights and the stage and the sound and the Yeah, it's.
- 37:57Crazy. It's crazy.
- 37:59So when you, but when you see big artists like Demi Lovato,
- 38:02but I also look at it too, like I think people can also be very
- 38:06nostalgic. And so I think that Demi, like I
- 38:10say, in 10 years, Demi will be sold out again.
- 38:13You know, I think, I think it's crazy because for me, I'm going
- 38:17to go see Toto at the White River Amphitheater.
- 38:20And those who don't know Toto Africa, I saw Toto in Spokane at
- 38:26the Knitting Factory for $25 and there was maybe a couple 100
- 38:31people there. This is back in 2007.
- 38:34And they couldn't get arrested in America at that time.
- 38:38There was a 20 year lull where no one wanted to hear Africa or
- 38:43they or they were the laughing joke of that, right?
- 38:46And so I went to the show. Of course, I'm a huge Toto fan.
- 38:48So I went to the show and I got front.
- 38:50I mean, we were standing room only.
- 38:52So I just went right to the front.
- 38:53So I'm literally underneath Steve Lukather and Bobby Kimball
- 38:56as they perform. And then suddenly Africa blows
- 38:59up again. Same as journey.
- 39:01Well, I I saw a journey. I saw a journey back in the
- 39:04early 2000s at some small venues.
- 39:07And they and they they weren't selling out.
- 39:09And now, because don't stop believing, you know, so the next
- 39:13generation discovers something that blows up again.
- 39:17Yeah. So I think Demi Lovato is is
- 39:19Demi Lovato kind of in that like.
- 39:22I see her in the like Hillary Dove, like Hannah Montana, you
- 39:27know, like that's what my kids grew up on, which is why Matthew
- 39:30would want to go see her so. Do you think Miley Cyrus can
- 39:33sell out a venue like? She might.
- 39:37I mean, I don't know. I mean, I'm guessing that
- 39:40generation would all want to go, but I feel like they would want
- 39:44to go see her also as Hannah Montana.
- 39:47I don't know. I like the fact that she's
- 39:48embraced that because she just did the 20th anniversary, which
- 39:51I sat down almost because I did enjoy Hannah Montana and I like
- 39:53the fact that she embraced the character.
- 39:55Again. So so she did and she performed
- 39:57one of the, you know, best of both worlds and all that.
- 39:59But I was thinking like, yeah, we've got we've got tickets to
- 40:02giveaway for Hilary Duff. Now.
- 40:03I always know when when we do these ticket giveaways, if they
- 40:06come back to us multiple times. Then it's not selling.
- 40:09It's not selling. You and I both know that because
- 40:12because radio has changed so much that if something's so
- 40:14people have always asked about, let's say, Pink or Justin Bieber
- 40:17or even Taylor Swift. Right, you don't.
- 40:19You don't get tickets. You don't.
- 40:21You don't get tickets to the shows that sell.
- 40:23Nope. So when they, so when?
- 40:25So I'm always amazed when something does come through
- 40:27like, hey, can you help us out on whoever it is?
- 40:29I'm like, right? And then you own or Yeah.
- 40:32Yeah. Then you know it's not, then you
- 40:33know it's not selling. So yeah.
- 40:35But again, I think there's so many factors now.
- 40:38Number one, I feel like everybody's out on tour.
- 40:40Yes, I was going to say it's saturated.
- 40:43I think it's a combination of it's saturated with all these
- 40:46artists out on tour. Probably the cost of the
- 40:49tickets, just, yeah, the economy, people are having to
- 40:53pay more for gas, so they just don't have that extra income for
- 40:57tickets. Tickets are stupid expensive too
- 41:00so. Well, but I was thinking about
- 41:02even for a football game, even for a baseball game, even for a
- 41:05hockey game, you know, I would tell, I was telling Megan that I
- 41:10think the Cowboys are playing the Seahawks this year.
- 41:13And I went, honey, you know, if I get ahead of it, can I, you
- 41:16know, can I'm thinking of buying some tickets to go to the
- 41:18Cowboys and Seahawks game. You know, she goes.
- 41:20Well, of course we can go, but I can't even imagine what those
- 41:23tickets are going to be because last time I went with you guys,
- 41:25Yeah. So anyway, yeah, we lost.
- 41:27Yeah. Parking alone like outside of
- 41:32the stadium is like 60 to $100.00 so which is crazy so.
- 41:38Yeah. Well, yeah.
- 41:38And then the, and then the gas and the everything you get there
- 41:40and all that. I mean, you're looking at, I
- 41:42think, I think almost anything and everything you do now is
- 41:441000 bucks. Yeah, easy.
- 41:46It's crazy. Somebody price like a like Major
- 41:49League Baseball game for I think a family of four.
- 41:51And we're not talking like good seats either.
- 41:55And did like food and everything.
- 41:57And it's like $200 just for that.
- 42:01So I know it's yeah. For me, that's it's just
- 42:04absolutely ridiculous. And I wonder if it's going to
- 42:05keep getting worse and worse or is there going to be eventually
- 42:08a you know, is that is that why you know, because I know we're
- 42:11going to talk about Coachella. Is that why the big festivals,
- 42:14you know, well, well, Watershed, I mean.
- 42:16So there have been, there have been multiple music festivals in
- 42:18the Northwest that haven't succeeded.
- 42:21Rain. But there's ones that do like
- 42:24look at EDC in Las in Las Vegas, that's like 400,000 people that
- 42:29they get for that thing. So yeah.
- 42:32I think, I think it, I think it just depends.
- 42:34Well, I remember it's so funny in the in the radio business
- 42:37back when we were doing the bull bashes, it was funny.
- 42:39You'd go get Les Schwab to buy a sponsorship, but Les Schwab was
- 42:42like, well, we need we need to know the artists before we even
- 42:45they did remember they. Blame them, yeah.
- 42:47They're like, I'm not buying it until I know who the artist is.
- 42:49Then you go, oh, it's Brad Paisley or it's Blake Shelton.
- 42:51OK, now we'll spend 20 grand. Yeah.
- 42:54You know, But I don't even think nowadays you could get 20 grand
- 42:56out of a sponsor, at least in a small market.
- 42:58Radio. No, those days, those days are
- 43:00gone. Those days are gone.
- 43:02These, you know, So. Yeah.
- 43:03So Demi Alvada. That's.
- 43:05That's surprising. Post Malone.
- 43:06Surprising. Well, Kid Rock, I have.
- 43:09No, I have no problem with that guy not selling shit.
- 43:12I know which I know he's not either, so.
- 43:14Yeah, when he, when he's cancelling his crap, I'm like,
- 43:17yeah, you and Scott Baio and Ted Nugent to work in.
- 43:20Yeah. Yeah, OK, You mentioned
- 43:21Coachella. Let's move on.
- 43:23Did you see where Coachella is suing?
- 43:27It's a shelter. I think it's in Michigan.
- 43:29I could be wrong. It's just a shelter.
- 43:32They named one of their dogs Pawchella.
- 43:36You know how you know how these places have to give them names,
- 43:39which we, when we foster kittens, have to give them names
- 43:42so that when they go on transport, they have a name.
- 43:45And so Coachella is suing this shelter because they named this
- 43:50dog Coachella. And I'm like, what is wrong with
- 43:54them? I mean, code, the people who own
- 43:56Coachella are horrible people anyway.
- 43:58But I thought that is ridiculous.
- 44:01Like, that's just the dumbest thing.
- 44:03Like who cares that they named this dog Podchella?
- 44:06They should put money behind it so that it can get adopted.
- 44:10Yeah, it's like Coachella asked this, this Detroit animal
- 44:13shelter to not use Pochella. They've reached out.
- 44:16They say that's trademarked. But but you and I have learned a
- 44:19lot of lessons being in broadcasting is you can't say
- 44:22Super Bowl. No, you can't.
- 44:25You know, it's the big game. That's why we always say the big
- 44:27game. Yeah.
- 44:28Anything tied any and this I? Mean, but they're not using
- 44:31Coachella, they're using Pochella.
- 44:33I know so. It's awesome.
- 44:36Yeah, the dog. That's adorable.
- 44:40They're just heartless bastards. Well, that's for 1%.
- 44:44Of course, which also rolls into Yeah, go ahead.
- 44:47Yeah, love, love, love pets and animals.
- 44:48You'll love Pochella. It's an acre of vendors, pets
- 44:51for adoption, free admission, food.
- 44:54It's the it's the Veterans Memorial Museum.
- 44:57Oh it's an event, not the dog's name.
- 44:59I thought it was the dog's name. I no, I think it's it's an
- 45:03event. Oh, well, I could see, you know,
- 45:07if it's if it's an event, but it's still not like Coachella,
- 45:10it's in. Detroit.
- 45:12It's not even close to California.
- 45:14That's what I'm saying. It's in Detroit.
- 45:16Like who cares? So.
- 45:18So none of us can put Chella behind anything.
- 45:22Is that what they have? Trademark.
- 45:24Yeah, if you go, it's, you know, it's Yeah, it's Rick and
- 45:28Michella I. Was just going to.
- 45:30Say Rick and Michella. So hey, it's Ricky, Michella,
- 45:33the the podcast. Yeah, you, they're going to send
- 45:36you a cease and desist. So guys in the biz, it's called
- 45:38a cease and desist. Yeah, it is.
- 45:40Yeah, that's just, that's horrible.
- 45:43Who cares if it's a festival? People, people are, I mean, now
- 45:50the, the, the president of the, the animal shelters apologized,
- 45:54did not realize that they were, you know, trademarked and all
- 45:57that. So, right, But Potchella isn't
- 46:00trademarked. So it's just Chela.
- 46:03It's just Coachella is trademarked.
- 46:07But does that mean anything that's like sounds close to it
- 46:11is similar to it is. Trademarked or you're going to
- 46:13get. Yep, you're going to get sued.
- 46:15That's ridiculous. It's the same.
- 46:17Thing it's the same thing. So they have Coachella.
- 46:23So they hood Cella, Film, Film Cella, Whole Cella, Conchella,
- 46:29Carcella, Bocella, Afrocello, Floated Cello, Bookcella,
- 46:34Cowcella, and Barkcella have all been flagged.
- 46:38And they have aggressively protected the Coachella name
- 46:40through the years, targeting anybody who uses Cella in their
- 46:43events. That's good.
- 46:45That is just ridiculous. Yep, they said.
- 46:49The season desist letter to the Dearborn shelter is far from the
- 46:53first time Coachella's owners have gone after groups using
- 46:56Cella in that. Name, of course.
- 46:59I I understand wanting to protect your brand, but this
- 47:02isn't even like similar. Yeah, it is not even similar to
- 47:07your music festival. Yeah, and it's in Detroit and
- 47:12you know, but again, it's it's the same thing as people have
- 47:16people have tried to trademark. What is it?
- 47:18Is it did Kim Kardashian trademark?
- 47:19She wanted trademark Kim, the word, you know, Kim or
- 47:23something. She got shot down.
- 47:25Oh, that's good. But because everybody with the
- 47:27name Kim, what are they going to do?
- 47:29She got shot down when she tried to do some type of like, oh, I
- 47:32want to, I want to trademark Kim or something.
- 47:34She got shot down so. All right, let's continue
- 47:39talking about horrible rich people.
- 47:41Yes, Did you? Spend the last We can spend the
- 47:45last 15 minutes bitching about the one percenters.
- 47:48Yes. Did you see?
- 47:49So there's a neighborhood near the Seattle Children's Hospital,
- 47:53it's called Laurelhurst, I think.
- 47:56And they are upset about the life flight helicopters, the
- 47:59sound of them disrupting their multi $1,000,000 homes.
- 48:04And so now Children's Hospital is having to land to the
- 48:09helicopter somewhere else and then ambulance the kids in like
- 48:1215 to 20 minutes. And keep in mind this is not
- 48:17like there's not like daily life flights.
- 48:20There's maybe 3 a week at the most is what these people are
- 48:24complaining about. And these kids are if they're
- 48:27having to be life flighted, they're already critical like
- 48:30that time to like land and put them in the ambulance and drive.
- 48:34There is is minutes could mean everything between life and
- 48:39death or any anything for these kids.
- 48:41Like it is like what is wrong with these people?
- 48:44If that was their kid, they would be perfectly fine with it
- 48:49happening. So I thought it was horrible.
- 48:54Well, but they've come to Yeah. I mean, yeah, I'm trying to look
- 48:58down some of the, you know, it's.
- 48:59Like there was a protest, I think it was last weekend and
- 49:02somebody. A bunch of rich people were out
- 49:04protesting. No, no, no.
- 49:06People were protesting then in their neighborhood, and somebody
- 49:09was, like playing the sound of helicopters, like, continuously
- 49:13at this protest. And I was like, yes, like, so,
- 49:19yeah. Yeah, it looks like they're
- 49:20gonna, like you said, they're gonna be diverted.
- 49:22Yeah, yeah. Yeah, but now it's trying to see
- 49:29if they're Yeah. Wow, it's just crazy.
- 49:33Yeah. And again, it's not every day.
- 49:36This is like they said maybe three times a week that they're
- 49:39having to life flight. Kids in kids from Yakima get
- 49:42life flighted over there. Yeah, it's crazy.
- 49:47And you know, yeah, it's crazy. My yeah, my niece who had
- 49:53leukemia got life flighted from Alaska to there, so.
- 49:58Yeah, they're going to Graves Field at the University of
- 50:00Washington, and less special circumstances require landing.
- 50:04They have to land. Yeah, it it, Yeah, If they have
- 50:07to land, they can do it, but. That's still like.
- 50:10But but the article says the helipad was a way to get
- 50:13critically I'll patients from across Western Washington
- 50:15directly to care saving hours. So.
- 50:19Yeah, wow. They But apparently these rich
- 50:23people have been fighting this since 1992.
- 50:25Of course they have like, but now it's like actually happened
- 50:29where they have to land somewhere else.
- 50:32You live, you live in such a fantasy world where you think
- 50:35the rich really care about you or I, Trump just said, getting
- 50:39off an airplane just said I don't care about people's living
- 50:42situations. And then JD Vance says he didn't
- 50:44say that. Yeah.
- 50:46It's like you need to listen to your own president, dude.
- 50:49I don't, you know, it's I, you know, I think the world needs a
- 50:53little kindness. I mean, how hard is it to be?
- 50:56But but again, we live in a we live in a universe, you know,
- 50:59right now where it's me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me.
- 51:03You are, you know you're you're anything that disrupts my days
- 51:06and inconvenience. Yes.
- 51:08And and people's attitudes are like my anxiety or my, my world
- 51:13has been disrupted. I mean, look at the people who
- 51:15wouldn't wear masks. They they did want to because it
- 51:19inconvenienced them, but yet it would have protected other
- 51:22people, right? So so I go.
- 51:25To America that were inconvenienced by wearing masks.
- 51:28Which brings me to another interesting topic.
- 51:30So I was doing a Taco Bell grand reopening in Othello.
- 51:34I know this is going to be a stretch, but in terms of of
- 51:37where I'm going to go with this, but but it's interesting.
- 51:41So I was talking to the regional manager about Taco Bell and he
- 51:45said that they're shrinking their dining rooms because
- 51:50people don't eat a Taco. I mean, they don't eat in the
- 51:51dining room anymore. So 80% of their business comes
- 51:57from apps. And then he says it's insane,
- 52:01but it's almost all Uber Eats and DoorDash.
- 52:06He says this generation is willing to pay 30% extra, 40%
- 52:13extra. So that they don't have to go
- 52:16into the restaurant. To go anywhere.
- 52:17To go anywhere, yeah. Yeah.
- 52:19I mean, and, and probably the people doing that probably don't
- 52:22have the money to be doing that. I'm just saying no.
- 52:26I, you know, young, it's going to be well, the younger
- 52:29generation is doing this. Yes, so I.
- 52:31Yeah. So I think so.
- 52:32I thought it's, it's interesting that everything is about
- 52:35convenience for them, you know, themselves.
- 52:39So having to wait a little extra time to get a coffee or having
- 52:42to wait, you know, So why would the, you know, why would these
- 52:45rich, rich people be nice when it's like it disrupts their
- 52:49life? Right.
- 52:51You know, but saving a life. Eaters are not rich people.
- 52:54Well, no, I'm just saying I think, I think, I think in this
- 52:57world right now, there's a general lack of empathy and
- 53:01caring for your fellow man, right?
- 53:03But I think the generation that is door dashing, like you said,
- 53:07so that would be like Jackson and Shaylee's, the younger Gen.
- 53:10Z, we're talking Gen. Z mainly.
- 53:13They were young. You figure Shaylee was in middle
- 53:17school when the pandemic happened and it I think like her
- 53:21anxiety got worse and a lot of other kids, they got worse
- 53:26because they were allowed to be at home during the pandemic for
- 53:30years and years. And then once everything
- 53:32reopened and they had to go back out into the world, it was
- 53:36almost like they didn't know how to function.
- 53:38It was the weirdest thing. And I feel like that's just kind
- 53:42of continued for them. Like they that's why they are
- 53:45fine with door dashing. That's why they are fine with
- 53:48mobile ordering and just running in and picking it up, because
- 53:51then they don't have to interact with someone like their
- 53:54generation again. They can't make phone calls
- 53:58either, most of the time for themselves.
- 54:00So so so. That kind of goes hand in hand
- 54:02with their just how their generation is.
- 54:04I know. So I joke about this a lot on
- 54:06the show, You know, about things I don't like to do.
- 54:09It's if I don't have to interact with.
- 54:10People you don't like to make a phone?
- 54:12Call. I don't.
- 54:13I won't do any of that. But on the flip side, you know,
- 54:16Pearl, my beloved foster mother. Yeah, You know what I'm saying?
- 54:20If if I if I whined about anything, she'd go pull some
- 54:23weeds, you know what I'm saying? You know?
- 54:25No, I mean her. Her solution for everything.
- 54:28I mean. No, I mean was go to work.
- 54:31Her solution was like the modern day go touch some grass, Like
- 54:34that's what. Yeah, like you need to go touch
- 54:37some grass, like get outside. So I think that's probably what
- 54:40drives Megan nuts is because I am perfectly capable.
- 54:42Yeah. Yes, you are.
- 54:44Anything and I mean anything and everything and so, and, and my
- 54:48foster mom drilled so I mean drilled things into my head.
- 54:53So I mean, I, I was very fortunate to have an amazing
- 54:56mother figure and and, and and my Logan and I got into an
- 55:00argument about it one time because he was like, I want, I
- 55:02want, you know, he goes your foster parents.
- 55:05He said about my book. He goes, well, I don't think
- 55:06they're very good parents. And I went whoa.
- 55:10And then I I was. Like you don't, you don't touch
- 55:12the gold standard, you don't touch the platinum standard.
- 55:15You know, they were absolutely 100% amazing and love me more
- 55:19than me. I no one has ever loved me more
- 55:21than they, you know, but they also, but they also didn't
- 55:24suffer fools. Right.
- 55:26They're like, they're like, we're not going to let you get,
- 55:28We're not going to let you get off easy.
- 55:29We're not going to. During during that time period,
- 55:32that's how we were parented. No, I know and they did it
- 55:36better. They did it way better than most
- 55:40parents that were boomers or of us Gen.
- 55:43Xers Like like your foster parents were the exception to a
- 55:47lot of the boomer parents that we.
- 55:49Encounter because they they went through the Great Depression, so
- 55:51they have a totally different aspect on that.
- 55:53But but yeah, it was one of it was one of those things where
- 55:56it, you know, it's, it's things I don't, I don't there's things
- 55:59I don't like to do, but I but I can do them right.
- 56:02You know, for me I always joke it's an on and off switch.
- 56:04Yeah. You know, when I go, when I go
- 56:06do a, a live radio broadcast, I'm the most animated, you know,
- 56:11and the nicest. And you know what I'm saying?
- 56:13I'm, I'm on, I'm on stage, I'm acting and, and, and so I get, I
- 56:19get. You're masking.
- 56:21You're doing, you're masking. But I don't have to.
- 56:24But I do, you know? But but that's because because
- 56:27Pearl taught me like, hey, man, you, you step up to the plate.
- 56:30You know, I mean, no, you step up to the plate, you take the
- 56:32shot. Whether you missed the shot or
- 56:34not, it doesn't matter. You step up to the plate.
- 56:36You don't refuse. Yeah.
- 56:39You don't refuse to step up to the plate.
- 56:40You just get up there and just go do it.
- 56:43And. If you fail, you fail.
- 56:44OK, you failed but but but but not even trying was not was not
- 56:50acceptable. So it's like it's the same thing
- 56:53as I hate spinach. I hate it with a passion.
- 56:56Hate spinach but as a kid my foster mom made me try it and
- 57:00once I went this is crap she goes OK well at least now you
- 57:03tried it. But.
- 57:05You would not allow me to sit there and say I don't like
- 57:07spinach. Have you tried it?
- 57:08No. Yeah.
- 57:10Nope. You're going to try it first and
- 57:12then you can say yes, I don't like it.
- 57:14Yeah. Anyway, we need, we need more.
- 57:17We need good parents out there. I don't know, just a different
- 57:21generation, but I just thought it was actually fascinating that
- 57:24the Taco Bell guy had said that so much It like, there's got to
- 57:28come a point where fast food restaurants won't have a dining
- 57:30room. No they won't.
- 57:33It'll just it'll be kiosk because no one wants to interact
- 57:35with anybody. Right.
- 57:37Shaley loves the kiosk app. Yeah, yeah.
- 57:39Yep, Yep. So, so I I'm just saying that's
- 57:42the future. So in terms of those, those
- 57:44concert tickets, in terms of the the doordashes, I mean, I think
- 57:49I don't know what, I don't know what the next 10 years going to
- 57:51look like at all. I think it's going to be crazy.
- 57:54Well, hopefully there's still podcast.
- 57:58That's it for today's episode of Rick and That Michelle Che.
