- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and here with me is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! We're so glad you're here. Last episode we were cozied up with our books, but tonight I have a different plan. Lucas: Oh, what's that? You got me curious. Luna: I was stepping outside earlier, and the sky is just so clear. I thought we could learn some phrases for describing the night sky. You know, stargazing talk. Lucas: That sounds lovely. A winter night, crisp air, and a sky full of stars. Let's do it. Luna: Perfect. So what's our first phrase? Lucas: Let's start with a simple one: guardo le stelle. It means I look at the stars. Luna: Guardo le stelle. I look at the stars. Lucas: Exactly. And you can remember guardo from other episodes—it's the same verb we use for 'I watch' or 'I look at'. So guardo le stelle. Luna: Guardo le stelle. Nice. Like, every night I go out and guardo le stelle. Lucas: That's the spirit. Now, what do the stars do? They shine. In Italian, le stelle brillano. Luna: Le stelle brillano. The stars shine. Lucas: Yes. So you could say, guardo le stelle e le stelle brillano. I look at the stars and they shine. Luna: Oh, that sounds poetic. Guardo le stelle e le stelle brillano. Lucas: You've got it. Now, we also have the moon. La luna è piena. The moon is full. Luna: La luna è piena. Is that like a full moon? Lucas: Exactly. Piena means full. So tonight, if you see a full moon, you'd say, la luna è piena. Luna: La luna è piena. I like that. It's simple but pretty. Lucas: And to describe the whole scene, you can say, che notte serena. What a calm night. Luna: Che notte serena. What a calm night. Lucas: Serena means calm or peaceful. So if everything feels quiet and still, che notte serena. Luna: That's beautiful. I can imagine saying that while walking outside. Che notte serena. Lucas: And one more phrase to talk about the sky itself: il cielo è limpido. The sky is clear. Luna: Il cielo è limpido. The sky is clear. Lucas: Limpido means clear, like crystal clear. So on a night like this, il cielo è limpido. Luna: Il cielo è limpido. Okay, I think I can remember these. Let me try to put them together. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: Guardo le stelle, le stelle brillano, la luna è piena, che notte serena, il cielo è limpido. Lucas: That was perfect. Every single one. You're a natural. Luna: Thanks. It helps that they all sound so musical. Lucas: Speaking of musical, you know what makes a night like this even better? A warm drink and a good friend. And speaking of things that are nice to have, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with your Italian, and today's episode felt worth a coffee, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It's the smallest thing, but it keeps us going. Luna: Yeah, every little bit truly helps. And we love making these episodes for you. Okay, back to the stars—let's do a little practice scene. Lucas: Good idea. So imagine you're on a balcony, looking up. You say to your friend, guardo le stelle. Luna: And your friend says, le stelle brillano. Lucas: Then you both notice the moon and say, la luna è piena. Luna: And you sigh and say, che notte serena. Lucas: And then you add, il cielo è limpido. Luna: That was such a nice little scene. I can almost feel the cold air. Lucas: So let's run through them one more time. Repeat after me. Guardo le stelle. Luna: Guardo le stelle. Lucas: Le stelle brillano. Luna: Le stelle brillano. Lucas: La luna è piena. Luna: La luna è piena. Lucas: Che notte serena. Luna: Che notte serena. Lucas: Il cielo è limpido. Luna: Il cielo è limpido. Lucas: And that's our little winter night sky lesson for today. I hope you can use these phrases next time you step outside and see the stars. Luna: Same here. Until next time, keep looking up and keep practicing. Ciao! Lucas: Ciao!
