- 0:32Well, my monitor came unplugged just before we went on the show and I just plugged it in backwards.
- 0:36So we're off to a great start.
- 0:41And I'm like a robot.
- 0:42So we're all good.
- 0:43How you been?
- 0:46Good.
- 0:47How you been?
- 0:50I'm here.
- 0:50I'm good.
- 0:53Amy and I are starting to get fit starting today.
- 0:56So there's that.
- 1:00Well, I got to tell you, you know, I've been doing these monthly challenges.
- 1:04Yeah.
- 1:06And the squat one I just finished up in November, and it came into play big time this week at Legends because my photographer got sick.
- 1:14I had to take the floor.
- 1:16And when you're between the crowd and the athlete, you have to get down.
- 1:22So I was in a squat position for a good chunk of Friday and Saturday.
- 1:27Oh, yeah.
- 1:28And no problems.
- 1:31No problems, no issues.
- 1:33How's your back feeling?
- 1:36Uh, my back actually feels pretty good.
- 1:40Um, yeah, I'm, you know, we're not, we're not the kind of media that's going to run out there and, uh, just take picture after picture after picture.
- 1:50Um, but, uh, so I can pace myself with an interview, cut, edit, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:56Just I've learned, I've learned the tricks of the trade.
- 2:01At the games, we have a sprint.
- 2:05What's that again?
- 2:07I may chase someone down if there's a sprint at the games like Mars did that year.
- 2:12Yeah.
- 2:13You see, you need to come on the road with me and do some of that.
- 2:16There you go.
- 2:19We have Will Walraven in the chat who I met this weekend.
- 2:24He is Be Relentless.
- 2:26Go check out his stuff on Instagram.
- 2:28It is amazing.
- 2:31Hopefully we're going to work with him a little bit this week to put out some more footage from the competition.
- 2:37But his stuff is sick.
- 2:39So go check that out.
- 2:40Be Relentless on Instagram.
- 2:44Thanks for jumping in, Will.
- 2:46um so yeah it was it was a crazy weekend um oh i want to give a couple whoa whoa surprise guest hi guys medicine kick in yeah a little bit yeah continue
- 3:06So I just wanted to give a couple of huge shout outs.
- 3:09Holly's in the chat.
- 3:11Holly Dugan, our stats person, she put out so many leaderboards, so many event winners, so many things over the weekend.
- 3:21I got so much praise for that from the athletes because it gives them something to share with their family and friends.
- 3:29And
- 3:31and she killed it all weekend long every division every um event she put out a leaderboard for it scaled team rx nobody was left behind she did it all and a huge shout out to her what uh what happened with the whole tagging of instagram like you hit a limit that that was dumb instagram does that
- 3:55I completely agree.
- 3:56Uh, she texted me Saturday, I think, and said, they won't let me, they won't let me tag anymore.
- 4:05And so, yeah, and I was talking to people like, to grow the sport, like, we want to be able to give them stuff to share, right?
- 4:14And so they can share what they're doing.
- 4:17And, and like, I was talking to Jason Grubb, like, it'd be cool if event organizers collected Instagram handles as part of the registration.
- 4:27So we could know who to tag, and not like this exploratory thing of trying to figure it out on the fly.
- 4:33Yeah, I think we've done that before in Masters Fitness Collective, or at least maybe in Green Beret Project.
- 4:41I know one of the ones that I've been a part of, we've attempted to collect that because you can do that in Competition Corner.
- 4:48Okay.
- 4:49I got people to register.
- 4:50So yeah, that's a great idea.
- 4:52And it only helps the athletes, right?
- 4:54Yeah.
- 4:55I also want to give a huge shout out to Joe and Bob, the event organizers.
- 5:00So present the entire weekend for the athletes, for the volunteers, for the media, whoever.
- 5:08They were there on the floor the entire weekend and available to answer any question that came up.
- 5:16so cool to see don't always see that at all events and then my final shout out is to ellie price who was supposed to be my photographer this weekend she got really sick when she flew into phoenix um and she is stephanie price's daughter who does our prodigies podcast
- 5:34um she just got ill and she she attempted thursday um she looked awful uh we kept her home on friday um she came back late saturday to try to get a little bit in um and i'm gonna put some more of her pictures up later this week um but yeah huge shout out for the effort but she was so sick so just wanted to get those out of the way um
- 6:04Yeah, and then a couple funny stories.
- 6:07I got approached by an athlete.
- 6:11He kind of came at me, started yelling at me, and I was like, what's going on here?
- 6:14And he goes, do you remember me?
- 6:16Do you remember me?
- 6:17And I'm like, you look familiar, but I've seen a lot of you athletes before.
- 6:23He goes, well, I have a picture of you and me.
- 6:26And I'm like, really?
- 6:27He goes, yeah, you were my judge at MFC, and you know rep me.
- 6:33And he has a picture of the no rep.
- 6:38And the picture was taken by Bobby.
- 6:42who was laughing because he was arguing with me and Bobby was like, he was right though.
- 6:49I, that Scott was right.
- 6:51He was, and it was a deadlift last year and he was crashing them to the, like bouncing them.
- 6:57And I kept no repping them.
- 6:58And it was, uh, it was freaking hilarious.
- 7:02The picture's funny.
- 7:02Cause you see him with his head turned, just yelling at me and I'm just, I've got the no rep out.
- 7:09Do I, do I know this person?
- 7:12I'm sure you would.
- 7:13I think he won MFC last year, maybe.
- 7:16Okay.
- 7:20Do your reps right, bro.
- 7:21Right.
- 7:23Well, and then when he finished his story, he goes, yeah, I got called on that at Wadapalooza too, and I got called on that.
- 7:29Okay.
- 7:30Dude.
- 7:32And then we had a really fun conversation after that, but it was just a funny way to be approached by an athlete.
- 7:45I had In-N-Out for the first time in my life.
- 7:48What?
- 7:50First time?
- 7:51Yeah, first time ever.
- 7:54I've heard about it.
- 7:55Everybody raves about it.
- 7:58It was really dang good.
- 8:01They only have one thing on the menu, and they just do it really well.
- 8:06And the funny thing is I ran into a bunch of the judges at In-N-Out when I was there, and they were all trying it.
- 8:15Dave Hardy was there, and he was like, I come every time I'm on the West Coast.
- 8:20I get my In-N-Out.
- 8:22So that was fun.
- 8:26And then typical me, I left my laptop charger at home.
- 8:32So on Friday, Boz lent me his laptop charger because he's the only one that's not an Apple user in all of CrossFit other than me.
- 8:42So he lent me his charger for me to get at least enough to go like the rest of the day.
- 8:47And then I went to Best Buy and got another one.
- 8:50And then on the way home, I lost my wallet.
- 8:53I was checking my luggage in.
- 8:55No.
- 8:55I had my wallet.
- 8:57So I'm in the middle of the Phoenix airport.
- 9:00bag open clothes on the floor and find i found my wallet in in the suitcase but oh my gosh typical typical scott i love it typical me yep that that's what it's like at least amy wasn't there to scold you yeah correct what's happening correct
- 9:22The other thing is I had this new fancy camera, and I'm like, I get to use it for the first time.
- 9:28Well, apparently it is so good that the cards I have write too slow.
- 9:33Yeah.
- 9:34So I had to get a high-speed card to go in it to be able to keep up with the camera.
- 9:40All the trips to Best Buy.
- 9:43I was there three times.
- 9:45And it was not on the way.
- 9:49Yeah, I bet not.
- 9:52Ugh.
- 9:54So did you guys get to see any kind of content about it?
- 10:02I was away, so I didn't get to see.
- 10:03I'm still catching up on shows.
- 10:06I saw that Jamie won a bunch of events and paid attention to the headlines.
- 10:14So I'm going to share a picture of the floor.
- 10:17You know what was really cool, Scott?
- 10:19It was when I was scrolling through social media and I saw one of our posts.
- 10:23I thought it was an actual official legends post.
- 10:27Like I had to look closely to tell the difference.
- 10:29So that was really cool for me to see.
- 10:32You did a great job.
- 10:34I agree with that.
- 10:36Yeah.
- 10:37Right.
- 10:37I was like, wait, Oh, Oh, this is us.
- 10:39Okay, cool.
- 10:40Yeah.
- 10:40I was like, I'm doing that.
- 10:41Oh, Hey, I know those guys.
- 10:45yeah holly and i talked after the last event msc probably that our stuff because we overused the yellow looked a lot like be friendly and i was like i don't want to look like that anymore i want to look like us and so she went to work on a redesign and sent it to me and i was like that's perfect and i love that it's a real it's moving
- 11:10Um, and then when she did the overall leaderboards, adding the ups and downs to the side, did you guys see that?
- 11:18Yeah.
- 11:19When she, I was just blown away when she, I didn't know that was coming, saw that.
- 11:24And I was like, that is really awesome.
- 11:26So you can see if they like climbed or fell, um, as you looked at the leaderboard, but this is the, the event floor.
- 11:33So floor, um, this is floor one right here, the big one.
- 11:39it backed right up to a balcony and you could like see over at the top.
- 11:44And that's where I got some like really good footage from like the rope climbs and stuff like that.
- 11:49Um, and then this is 10 lanes.
- 11:53They did put 20 on it for the final day because they were like two back-to-back sprint events and you didn't, you could stagger and still fit everybody.
- 12:05And then back here with 10, right?
- 12:08Yes, yes.
- 12:10Now back here was 20.
- 12:13And it was a very short floor.
- 12:16And this is floor two.
- 12:18And both were running almost, until yesterday, they were running all weekend, both of them.
- 12:24What was nice is, and I don't know if you can tell in the picture, this is a hockey area.
- 12:29So there's the plastic or glass that goes up.
- 12:33And it actually blocked the floor announcing sound from going across to the other floor.
- 12:44wide open and people get confused because they heard the countdown on floor one and they're on floor two.
- 12:50That didn't happen here because the hockey glass kind of muted that out.
- 12:56And right outside this wall on the right was the pool.
- 13:01Oh, how nice.
- 13:02So everything was that close.
- 13:05Like, you could bing, bang, bang.
- 13:07Yeah, I love that.
- 13:09And it was a full Division I, 50 meters wide, 25 yards long swimming pool.
- 13:20And it was beautiful.
- 13:22Gorgeous.
- 13:24And they had, like, cold tubs out there.
- 13:26They had body work people all over the place for the athletes.
- 13:32It was really, really well run.
- 13:38So super fun.
- 13:40And this is sort of their first look, knowing that they are going to be the CrossFit Games for Masters in the future, right?
- 13:50Correct.
- 13:51However, this is not going to be the site for the games.
- 13:54Okay.
- 13:54But this is the event organizers and the branding and all that is going to be this.
- 14:02Exactly.
- 14:03And that's why Boz, Heather Lawrence, Dave were all there to check it out this weekend.
- 14:14Boz and Heather were there for two full days.
- 14:18Dave was there for a good chunk of Saturday.
- 14:23I think it was.
- 14:28It all blends together, Friday or Saturday.
- 14:31So that probably answers that.
- 14:32anti-doping question of yeah i was gonna i was kind of getting there here let's bring it up it's not technically a crossfit event yet until next year um yeah i don't know i i wasn't paying attention to the comments at all
- 15:02so i did not see anybody i knew that was banned competing lex if you could if you don't want to name names and just send me the send me the name text it to me just so i know who you're talking about because i didn't i didn't make that correlation i was someone on a team
- 15:31But I guess, too, they're going to have to incorporate some kind of drug testing protocols as well, just like they would at the games for next year.
- 15:40This is a freebie.
- 15:40Get in while you can.
- 15:41Well, and...
- 15:52The scale and the teams were not heavily signed up for.
- 15:56I know they were like trying to support the community with that.
- 16:01So I don't know what happened there that maybe they let someone in.
- 16:06Again, I'd have to look into it more to do that.
- 16:09Trying to look through here.
- 16:18What was my favorite part of the weekend?
- 16:21I think my favorite part of the weekend is always just meeting people.
- 16:26So there was 500 plus athletes there.
- 16:30And just getting to the stories and all of that was really cool.
- 16:36There's that many fit.
- 16:43There's some really fit old people.
- 16:46Really fit old people.
- 16:47I would say my favorite thing of the weekend is I interviewed two 70-plus-year-old women who came, who were competing in the scale division.
- 16:58And to me, that's just what it's all about.
- 17:04They're 70-plus competing in 65-plus and just giving it hell, doing the best they can.
- 17:10And to me, that was pretty awesome.
- 17:14That's really cool.
- 17:22Corey says, F that, names, names.
- 17:24I want to know.
- 17:25I'd only test positive for peanut butter at this point.
- 17:31I do think that they are a CrossFit event.
- 17:35That's why I'm perplexed.
- 17:38Yes, they're not the games this year, but I do believe they are a CrossFit licensed event.
- 17:43I don't think there's any.
- 17:45I mean, Green Beret was a CrossFit licensed event too, and there was no, I don't think there's any stipulations about who you can allow
- 17:52Now, I could be wrong, but I did receive a copy of the CrossFit agreement that gets exchanged between event organizers and CrossFit, but I don't recall that being a piece of it.
- 18:10I mean, it's also easy enough to do.
- 18:15But I do believe if you are banned, it says you are banned from all CrossFit licensed events.
- 18:20Oh, I see.
- 18:21So the agreement with the athlete is you are not allowed to compete.
- 18:26So are they testing for TRT in this event?
- 18:29Yeah, I mean, they're definitely not testing for anything.
- 18:32I don't think these events have tests, just like your local comps don't have tests.
- 18:38Just because you're a licensed event doesn't mean you have like an influx of money to be able to do that.
- 18:45Right.
- 18:46But you're right.
- 18:46I guess if you're on the band list, that shouldn't be a very long list of people.
- 18:52And you should be able to sort of cross-check that.
- 18:55Right.
- 18:56But I guess we'll see.
- 18:58I don't think that it's like you said, Kat, I don't believe it's in the agreement with the event people.
- 19:07It is the agreement because you got banned.
- 19:10Right.
- 19:12I guess enforcement's not.
- 19:19They're not listed on the license of event page.
- 19:29Okay.
- 19:30Scott's checking his text.
- 19:32I am.
- 19:34And I thought that person there, Lex, I did not see that person compete.
- 19:43But because her husband was in a sling and he's listed as a teammate.
- 19:53And he definitely did not compete.
- 19:55I thought they were there.
- 19:58representing the judges association the new judges association i know exactly who you're talking about but i will i'll double check on that and i don't know when that's you just showed me that so i'm just being dumb when the band started so we don't as soon as you said judges not if they're not competing only if they're judging
- 20:27And the band is not up.
- 20:29I never saw her compete.
- 20:31That's why it didn't click into me.
- 20:34And her husband definitely did not compete because he was in a sling and is listed as a teammate.
- 20:42I will go back and double check and see if, in fact, she did compete.
- 20:46And we'll bring that up on a later show if I can confirm that.
- 20:51Love it.
- 20:52Drama.
- 20:53Drama.
- 20:54So anyway, the weekend, I want to go through some pros and cons.
- 21:02And if you guys have any questions, shoot them at me and I'll answer whatever I can.
- 21:07Scott, if I drop abruptly, it's because my real job is calling.
- 21:12My other job, I should say.
- 21:14My paying job.
- 21:17So, First Pro is a state-of-the-art facility.
- 21:20You can see it here.
- 21:21It was gorgeous.
- 21:23It was easy to get in and out of.
- 21:26It was very well put together.
- 21:28It looked like a games floor.
- 21:31And it was super cool.
- 21:37So many amenities.
- 21:39They had...
- 21:41like really nice bathrooms.
- 21:43They had a shake shack that made smoothies and protein shakes and stuff that everybody had access to.
- 21:53Everything was right there.
- 21:54It was really compact.
- 21:55You didn't have to walk a mile to get to anything.
- 22:00So that was pretty cool.
- 22:03Everything was on time the entire weekend.
- 22:06And if anything, it was actually ahead of schedule.
- 22:16And so the second floor in the back actually was running so efficiently, they got ahead of floor one and would have to take breaks.
- 22:27And that is very rare to find at a competition to be that on time, which is a huge, I think that is mega for being the games.
- 22:38Um, programming.
- 22:39I thought the programming tests were really good and different.
- 22:44I'm also going to have this in my cons and I'll explain that why, but, um, I think it truly tested overall fitness the best it could under the circumstances it was given.
- 22:54Uh,
- 23:00And then it had a very open feel to everything.
- 23:04The athletes were just hanging out.
- 23:07Everybody was just hanging out.
- 23:08If you wanted, even like Boz and Dave and when Siobhan and Greg came, like everybody was just hanging out, which if you've never been to a competition like this, is a really cool thing that you can just walk up to athletes, chat with them.
- 23:25They usually had...
- 23:27A long time before their event started or a long time after their event went to just hang out and chill with whoever.
- 23:35And it was a really cool feel.
- 23:38The vendors were really awesome.
- 23:41They gave huge discounts to people and they were really supportive of everything that was going on.
- 23:49I talked about Bob and Joe being available for everything.
- 23:53That was super quick.
- 23:54And they tried to fix everything as quickly as they could on the fly.
- 23:59If they saw a programming faux pas, they tried to fix it after the first age group so that the rest weren't affected by whatever was happening.
- 24:10And then the way they took care of their volunteers, top notch.
- 24:15Don't know if I've seen anything, even the games, take care of their volunteers like this group did.
- 24:23The food they fed, they had breakfast, lunch, and dinner for all volunteers, all vendors, all media, to be able to come in and get food and beverage all day long.
- 24:35It was fantastic.
- 24:38That's something I struggle with with my nutrition journey on the road.
- 24:41It made it so easy to be on track with everything because the food was good.
- 24:48It was healthy.
- 24:49It was abundant.
- 24:51It was fresh.
- 24:53It was amazing.
- 24:56The pool, you can't get a better pool than they had there.
- 24:59I mean, it is a Division I school's official pool that they use for the swim season.
- 25:06So it can't get any better than that.
- 25:08And I think there's so much potential.
- 25:11So behind, so where I'm taking the picture from, if you turn around 180 degrees,
- 25:17and go out that back door, there are soccer fields, football practice fields, tons of stuff out the back door that didn't get used at this event, but I think will be used in future events at this location.
- 25:34Because even though this is not where the games are going to be, they are coming back to the same venue for the Legends community event next December.
- 25:45So those were my pros.
- 25:49Now my cons and the, and the first couple of cons are all because of the same thing.
- 25:55They're just way too many divisions, way too many athletes.
- 25:59And so programming, you could not program events longer than 15 minutes.
- 26:07If you did, you would be there till two in the morning.
- 26:12Um, and that, and even with the shorter events, they were long days.
- 26:18Like they were starting at seven 38 o'clock in the morning.
- 26:21They were finishing at nine o'clock at night.
- 26:26And that's, and, and you know, the volunteers probably went another couple hours after that.
- 26:33Um, it's just, and it's inherent in the way that this is organized and they did their best by having the older divisions go in the morning and be done and then have the younger divisions come in the afternoon and evening.
- 26:47And then, so there was a little bit of like, these athletes are coming in, they're kind of leaving and taking off and the next batch of athletes are coming in as the other ones are leaving.
- 26:58Does that make sense?
- 26:59Am I saying it well enough?
- 27:01Yeah, that's cool.
- 27:02That's a great idea.
- 27:05And then I've said this on shows previously, then the events become very repetitive for a spectator because you have 14 divisions in the RX division alone with 40 athletes in the first few age groups, like till 50, I think.
- 27:27That's a lot of...
- 27:30A lot of heats.
- 27:32Yeah.
- 27:35The media space, it was that black curtain you see in the back, right here.
- 27:43It was also the corral for this floor back here.
- 27:50I think that there is a belief in the CrossFit world that media is just videographers and photographers.
- 28:00and not people trying to have conversations or edit interviews or things like that.
- 28:06You have to be very quiet in the media room, Scott.
- 28:12Well, I just needed enough quiet to be able to hear the interview, to cut it.
- 28:17edit it, do all those kinds of things.
- 28:19So I actually just commandeered a room upstairs, um, and sat in there by myself and edited, um, when I wasn't getting and collecting data.
- 28:29Real media rooms are like libraries.
- 28:33That's just one event and it's stupid.
- 28:37But anyway, um,
- 28:40the other part of media that, that is vital is talking to the athletes.
- 28:46Like we're not just a team that puts out reels and, and what,
- 28:52I'm not saying that that stuff is bad.
- 28:54That stuff is needed as well.
- 28:55But we're a different kind of media company.
- 28:58And what we want to do is accentuate that beyond.
- 29:04It doesn't help that I take another, like Will was there taking great shots.
- 29:09I don't need to take the same shot.
- 29:11I need to partner with Will and use his shot and then tell a story behind it.
- 29:17And that means like going and talking to Boz and Heather Lawrence and going and talking to Jason Grubb and Brian Retke and all those people to get the stories behind everything.
- 29:34The other con was that they didn't have exclusive use to the facility.
- 29:39So where the warmup area was for the athletes was where the college students can go work out too.
- 29:45I was wondering how that how that worked with school in session.
- 29:47So it was a mishmash of.
- 29:50I think there were college students are very intrigued as to what was going on in their facility.
- 29:58But it also cut down on the warm up space that the athletes had to be able to get ready for their event.
- 30:09if that makes sense.
- 30:10And I heard that from a lot of athletes, that they just wish they had a little bit more room to warm up for their
- 30:18Um, for their specific event.
- 30:20Now I will tell you the athlete village area was massive.
- 30:24Like, and so like you could stretch band work, do a lot of that kind of stuff in athlete village and have more than enough space.
- 30:33I think it was just when it became too movement specific with a barbell or a heavy object or something, they, they really didn't have that.
- 30:43And then, um,
- 30:50I don't know what I was saying there.
- 30:55Oh, finish lines.
- 30:57I wish all event organizers would.
- 31:00So I'm going to start with this.
- 31:02Now I know what I'm ready.
- 31:03So back here, so back here, especially they had, it was a very tight space that they were working with, which created a lot of chaos on the floor and very hard to tell the story.
- 31:19I think one of the big misses that a lot of events have are that they don't have a finish line away from the chaos.
- 31:31So there were events on this back floor that finished close to floor one, and there were other events that finished close to the windows.
- 31:42But a lot of the events that finished close to the windows were right where the action was happening.
- 31:48So it's hard if a person takes a step, one step to finish, it's hard to tell they finished or are they just getting chalk or are they, are they taking a rest or whatever?
- 31:59If you had them run away from the chaos back to floor one, it would be a better sight line for the spectator to be able to see who won the event, who came in second, who came in third.
- 32:13And that's where the excitement is with these events, right?
- 32:16If you think back to all the semifinals and games experiences, that race to the finish line is huge.
- 32:27It is.
- 32:27Why didn't these things get popular?
- 32:32Remember they were like in China or something?
- 32:34One of the... Wadapalooza used them one year.
- 32:37Okay.
- 32:40I mean, that would solve lots of problems, I would think.
- 32:44I agree.
- 32:45But even, even without them, if you just had them run down the floor to finish, it tells the audience who's finishing stories.
- 32:56We had the same complaint at MFC where they just stopped in the middle of the floor.
- 33:02And they would never do that at the games.
- 33:04Right.
- 33:07Right.
- 33:07And so I, uh,
- 33:11Yeah, that's just one thing.
- 33:13But even with that, overall, one of the best events I've ever been to.
- 33:19And the way it was organized.
- 33:21And this is their first year in this location.
- 33:23So you've been an event organizer before, Kat.
- 33:27Like year one, your hair's on fire half the weekend, if not more.
- 33:36And I thought they adapted and adjusted quickly to all of that.
- 33:41Um, and that, yeah.
- 33:43And to their credit, they have a lot of experience doing it too.
- 33:45You know, this isn't their first rodeo.
- 33:48They work well together.
- 33:50They've only been doing it since 2017.
- 33:53So it's not like where, what I, what I want to commend them on is their presence.
- 34:00The only way you can make difference is, is when you're there and aware of it as soon as it happens.
- 34:08Right.
- 34:09Right.
- 34:09They're not in the back room, hidden away.
- 34:13they're out there on the floor they're seeing what's happening and when they see it then it's like they get on the horn with each other how are we gonna let's get to a war room let's figure it out let's get back out there and get it fixed yeah true makes a big difference and for that and that alone i i'm excited for them to take over the games yeah it's gonna be exciting i got um
- 34:40Meanwhile, I got a text while we were chatting, reliable source, that person did compete.
- 34:45That person that has been banned from CrossFit did compete on a team.
- 34:51Just saying.
- 34:54I guess the rules don't apply.
- 34:56But again, like Lex said, get out of jail free card.
- 35:01Last opportunity.
- 35:02Thank you.
- 35:05And so I ask you, you're an organizer.
- 35:08Can part of your event be CrossFit licensed like the RX division and then everything else not be licensed?
- 35:21I don't think so.
- 35:22I don't think it works that way.
- 35:25I mean, I know that, you know, the requirements were that like all the judges had to pass the judges course.
- 35:32Um, all the athletes had to be registered on crossfit.com like that.
- 35:36All the participants had to be registered on crossfit.com.
- 35:39So if you were a band athlete, I don't think you should be allowed.
- 35:44I mean, then you can't register for the event, right?
- 35:47Cause I don't think you can have an active account, you know, see, I know that that was a requirement going forward for them or the elite RX division.
- 36:02I'm just not sure if the team and scaled had the same requirement.
- 36:07And that's why I asked the question.
- 36:09I still don't think she should be allowed to compete.
- 36:13Well, yeah.
- 36:14I mean, if you're at the level where you go to the games and you got popped, you're good enough to be in the non-scaled division, right?
- 36:25Well, it was team and there weren't a lot of them.
- 36:31didn't have a lot of teams so i think it's like a fun division if there's no prizes and you're just doing it for fun who cares right but if but i'm i'm upset if i'm competing against someone who's maybe banned yeah i like i said at the top i don't think she should have been allowed to compete period yeah if i'm if i'm becoming the games the last thing i want to do
- 36:58when that's already in, in this division is the speculation.
- 37:04I don't want to associate myself in that manner going into my first ever games.
- 37:10Yeah.
- 37:13And I'm pretty sure at MFC, we did that.
- 37:15Like people that had been banned were not allowed to compete at MFC.
- 37:22I think don't quote me on it because I wouldn't have been the one to make that final decision, but I think so.
- 37:29Yeah, I didn't.
- 37:33So coming into the event, Bob was on a podcast, one of the event organizers, talking about how the team and the scaled resulted in a net negative for them this year.
- 37:48That they wanted it to be like a community-based event, but the community's not coming out for it.
- 37:56So they're reevaluating all that anyway.
- 37:58And not to give them any excuse, but I just, I think they were starving for teams probably and made a rash decision.
- 38:11And maybe that was like a late roster change too.
- 38:14Maybe someone got hurt and that person filled in because you said that that person was on a different team.
- 38:21On the registration?
- 38:22Is that what you're saying?
- 38:23The person is Stephanie Waugh.
- 38:25I'm going to throw it out there.
- 38:28She was a two-time Masters champion and got banned in... She's not due back until 2025.
- 38:37So whatever that was.
- 38:41I know her husband from being a judge in the past.
- 38:46Kat and I both know Brian for a long time.
- 38:49He was a member of the team, but he was in a sling all weekend.
- 38:53He had rotator cuff surgery and did not compete.
- 38:59That's what I was saying.
- 39:01I don't think that
- 39:04So I was under the assumption because Brian was there as part of the judges association that just formed.
- 39:12And I thought, so maybe, maybe they just, well, so maybe they just went on and maybe they competed, but didn't, it didn't count for anything.
- 39:20You know, sometimes you'd get an injury, you're, you can't compete, but if you have a fill in or something, you can still play.
- 39:27Yeah.
- 39:29Yeah.
- 39:29So what Lex sent me was the team roster that was submitted and it had Brian and her on the team roster.
- 39:36Yeah.
- 39:36And you know, there's no way Brian competed.
- 39:39Correct.
- 39:41Yeah.
- 39:42He couldn't even move.
- 39:43So maybe they were like already disqualified and they just, who knows?
- 39:47But again, it'll make a difference next year.
- 39:51It will.
- 39:53Uh, any other questions about the event?
- 39:55I'm still kind of like in my, I was telling Charlie my, uh, my flight didn't get in until 1130 last night, but I did take the day off.
- 40:07So I have slept in and kind of done that.
- 40:12Excellent.
- 40:13I, um, I showed up at the gym this morning, uh, to coach my five 15 class and there was five gallons of water on the floor from a big rainstorm that we had.
- 40:22That's,
- 40:22I don't know where it's coming from.
- 40:23It's not a leak in the ceiling.
- 40:25It's coming through the garage door up through the rubber floors.
- 40:28I don't know, but luckily my scrubber squeegeed it all up, but, uh, that was fun.
- 40:35Yeah.
- 40:36But I got to work out.
- 40:37So that was cool too.
- 40:39Those Enderton front squats are super fun.
- 40:43Oh, so much fun.
- 40:44You wouldn't know, but, or have you done them yet?
- 40:48Well, I didn't, I did not work out today.
- 40:50Yeah.
- 40:50But did you do them last week?
- 40:53Because I'm a week behind.
- 40:59I did not go on Monday.
- 41:00Okay.
- 41:02Well, you'll get there.
- 41:03Don't worry.
- 41:03So Carolyn's asking, why hasn't CrossFit Games announced anything on the Masters?
- 41:09Is it a CrossFit licensed event?
- 41:13So it's going to have to be right.
- 41:15I mean, I, I, I have, I have heard from a reliable source that the announcement's coming out this week about location and dates.
- 41:26Bob on the herd podcast, herd fitness podcast said last week that their dates are between the games and the end of August.
- 41:45Um, and why you, so you're asking me why the media team, so I need clarification, Carolyn.
- 41:52So about next season or about what just happened.
- 42:00Cause there was, there was no CrossFit media at the event that I could tell.
- 42:05Um, but they did have a good representative of executives there to support what was going on.
- 42:18Yeah, and I can tell you that you can be a CrossFit licensed event and you will not have CrossFit media there and they will not repost your shit necessarily.
- 42:28They're supposed to, but they won't all the time.
- 42:32And Holly says that the event was not listed as a licensed event on the CrossFit website.
- 42:38So there you have it.
- 42:42But I did hear that this week we will get an announcement on dates and locations for Age Group, Wheelwod, and Masters.
- 42:54Very cool.
- 42:57And I also talked with Boz, and I told him that I would like to have him on the show, but I don't want to have him on until the rulebook's final.
- 43:06Okay.
- 43:08Because I don't want to have a conversation about speculation.
- 43:10I want to have a conversation about facts.
- 43:14Did he say he'd only come on if I was on?
- 43:18That was the stipulation.
- 43:20Sure.
- 43:20Only if Kat's going to be there.
- 43:28I'll let you have that one.
- 43:29Okay, thanks.
- 43:32Um, but yeah, he, he was awesome.
- 43:35I did get a 20 minute conversation with him and Heather.
- 43:38Cool.
- 43:38Um, and great stuff.
- 43:41So you need to get back to the real world.
- 43:46No, I'm good.
- 43:47Oh, okay.
- 43:49I have some news.
- 43:52Oh, exciting news.
- 43:54I'm, uh, getting rid of my Honda pilot way.
- 43:59Yes.
- 43:59It's time.
- 44:00She's,
- 44:01She's on her last legs.
- 44:04She has 158,000 miles.
- 44:07I've had her for 10 years.
- 44:08It is time for me to get a vehicle from this decade.
- 44:14So on Wednesday, I'm getting a Jeep Cherokee.
- 44:18So she would not get rid of because you two are twins and we threatened to push it off of a cliff.
- 44:29Oh my God.
- 44:29Totally.
- 44:29Totally.
- 44:31Um, it's, yeah, it's starting to like knock and ping and I don't, it's not, it's not garage kept anymore.
- 44:36I mean, it hasn't been for years, but because it's so old now and it doesn't have a remote start and the winter's coming and I just, yeah.
- 44:44So I'm getting it.
- 44:45It's a 2020.
- 44:45It's not, you know, brand new.
- 44:47It's new to me.
- 44:472020 Grand Cherokee Black.
- 44:50Hmm.
- 44:51With a remote start.
- 44:51I'm so excited because you guys, I have no bells and whistles on my car.
- 44:55And before this car, I had only leased cars before.
- 44:58So I'd never had them for more than a couple of years.
- 45:00So I was always getting like the latest and greatest.
- 45:04And so I get to be a little bit spoiled again and have something that I can actually rely on.
- 45:09So yeah, I'm excited.
- 45:12So Corey, Nick, I hate you both.
- 45:20She's back, folks.
- 45:21Nighttime.
- 45:23Yes, congrats to Jamie for the win.
- 45:24I reserved talking about actual event winners and all of that until Thursday when we can talk to Jamie.
- 45:34I'm going to try to get a couple more Masters athletes on for the Thursday night show to be able to talk to them about their experiences.
- 45:42Today was just about being with my friends and talking about the experience we had over the weekend.
- 45:48So, but yes, congrats to her and all of the amazing athletes that were there.
- 45:56One thing I really want to dig into at some point is we're starting to have another phase of like semifinal athletes that are moving up into the masters.
- 46:06And I'm curious to get their impressions of,
- 46:09Is it what they thought it was going to be?
- 46:10Is it harder than they thought?
- 46:14Is it easier than they thought?
- 46:20Because I think there's been a lot of people who started CrossFit late in life who never made a semifinal, but by the time you get to that age group, they're ready.
- 46:33So there were a handful of semi-final athletes that we got to know over the past couple years that are now aged up into the 35 to 39.
- 46:42And I'm just curious to see what their thoughts are.
- 46:49Yeah, that'll be a good conversation.
- 46:55There was a couple other big fitness things that happened this weekend that I have no clue what happened.
- 47:00Yeah, there was something in Australia, right?
- 47:03Dubai.
- 47:05Oh, that was Dubai.
- 47:08Okay.
- 47:09Dubai.
- 47:09I know Roman and Karen Freova won.
- 47:13Was Anika there?
- 47:15No, she was in Australia.
- 47:17Oh, okay.
- 47:18You're a week behind, just like programming.
- 47:21Sorry.
- 47:24I'll get there.
- 47:27We did tune in a little bit as we were trying to eat dinner in the evening.
- 47:30Okay.
- 47:31There were more people at Legends than there were at Dubai.
- 47:37Okay.
- 47:39Phoenix is a little easier to get to.
- 47:42Granted.
- 47:43But you would think the people living there would come support it.
- 47:50Yeah, I don't know if it's big.
- 47:51It's not like soccer in Brazil or football in Brazil or whatever you call it.
- 47:56I don't know what that's like.
- 48:00Yeah, I was stunned.
- 48:01I mean, I'm talking like I've been to local comp with more people.
- 48:07Yeah.
- 48:12Just so you know, Corey, Arizona, that's a desert as well.
- 48:19It also costs like $8,000 to fly there.
- 48:24It was so dry all week.
- 48:26Like my voice is still trying to make a comeback.
- 48:30Did it help your sinuses?
- 48:32Was it good or no?
- 48:36It did not.
- 48:36It made it worse.
- 48:39Plus, I think the Airbnb we got was pet friendly.
- 48:42So I wasn't getting away from the stuff I needed to get away from.
- 48:49But it was beautiful.
- 48:50Our Airbnb had a pool, private pool.
- 48:55Nice, nice.
- 48:57and four of us split it and we only paid like 300 bucks for the whole week oh nice that's great private pool four bedrooms um it had a pool table um huge dining room massive living room a big kitchen it was uh it was pretty sweet probably the best place i've ever stayed
- 49:24Although Miami was pretty close to a pretty cool.
- 49:27Yeah.
- 49:28Miami was nice.
- 49:30I still will never forget the place that we stayed.
- 49:32Was it in, was it for not in Knoxville?
- 49:38That crazy where I slept in the closet with you, you and Mike.
- 49:44Yeah.
- 49:44The hippie place.
- 49:47Yeah.
- 49:50Oh, we've come a long way.
- 49:51Haven't we?
- 49:53Madison this year, I know you didn't get to go with us, like bullet holes.
- 49:58It was like my place last year or two years ago.
- 50:03The scary place.
- 50:04It was crazy.
- 50:06The only thing good about Madison was the breakfast was okay.
- 50:09Fair enough.
- 50:15Yeah.
- 50:15I did try...
- 50:17this is way off the track.
- 50:19So as a celebration for the week, I try, I've heard about voodoo donut like my whole life, but again, it's only on the West coast.
- 50:27So, Oh,
- 50:29It's, it's a universal too.
- 50:31Cause I had it for the first time.
- 50:33Let's compare notes.
- 50:34Go ahead.
- 50:35I treated Jamie and Jim.
- 50:38Cause so Jamie won Jim peeper who stayed with us, took second.
- 50:42So we, it was a pretty winning Airbnb.
- 50:46So celebrate.
- 50:47We went to voodoo donut.
- 50:49I treated get in there.
- 50:52it was late cause it was a late night at the venue.
- 50:56And so they were out of a lot of things.
- 50:57I wanted to try the Crunchberry donut.
- 51:00I didn't get to, but I, I got the old dirty bastard.
- 51:03Okay.
- 51:05It was phenomenal.
- 51:09Explain it.
- 51:12So it was, um, like Oreo cookies with a chocolate center.
- 51:17And then they put, they drizzled hot fudge and peanut butter over the top of it.
- 51:24It was a yeast donut.
- 51:30I got a buttermilk bar and I got the Chuckles, which was a chocolate frosted with peanut butter and nuts.
- 51:39I will tell you, I think I'm just a cookie snob because they were not pleasant.
- 51:48I wasn't like, oh my God, this was so worth it.
- 51:49I actually don't think I finished either one of them.
- 51:52And that is not like me to not finish a dessert.
- 51:57The chuckles.
- 51:59That was my dad's name was Chuck.
- 52:01And those were all of his favorite things.
- 52:04Okay.
- 52:04So that's why, and they were out.
- 52:07Oh, okay.
- 52:07Yeah.
- 52:07Well, like I said, I don't think you were missing much, but maybe the yeast donut was different than like the other donut base, but I've decided that I'm no longer wasting my life on waiting in line for donuts.
- 52:17I will do it for cookies and I will do it for ice cream.
- 52:20Um, and I'll do it for cinnamon buns, but.
- 52:22Donuts, not for me anymore.
- 52:24I'm not typically a donut person.
- 52:26I did bring home, Julie, the voodoo donut.
- 52:32I should have gotten the mafia one, which was like bananas and chocolate.
- 52:36It was one of the bigger ones, not like a standard-sized donut, but I opted not to do that, and now I'm regretting that decision.
- 52:42But I won't try them again.
- 52:44There's way too many other fun stuff to try there.
- 52:46I'm not going to mention any names, but someone in our party got the cock and balls.
- 52:51Oh, I didn't see that one.
- 52:54Yeah.
- 52:56It was a mad, I mean, it had to be like that long.
- 53:00Cause if my stalker was listening, they would comment that that's the one I'd probably get.
- 53:04Yeah.
- 53:08No regrets.
- 53:11And I'm kind of with Nick.
- 53:14I think regular donuts are just fine.
- 53:16Putting more on seems excessive.
- 53:20It's like they're trying to go crumble cookie, but when crumble cookie does it, it changes the whole taste of the cookie.
- 53:29But anyway, I'm not even a sweets guy.
- 53:33I just wanted, because I'd heard so much about it, I wanted to try it.
- 53:36And it was a fun place to walk into and kind of see everything that they made.
- 53:41Jim Pieper got the, it's like a strawberry Pop-Tart donut.
- 53:46Did you see that one?
- 53:48He liked it.
- 53:50okay it seems like if you like the jelly filled you're happy there other than that no i love it oh sorry so so yeah cool we and unlike miami we actually went out and tried different things we didn't we didn't eat a meal out of the hotel did we
- 54:18Except for at the actual Waterpalooza.
- 54:20Yeah, we got like DoorDash every night because we worked hard.
- 54:24Because that was the first place I had an acai bowl.
- 54:30And the venue had that place that made the smoothies and stuff.
- 54:34They made acai bowls.
- 54:36Oh, nice.
- 54:37I was going to say the first acai bowl I ever had was the same time I had my first In-N-Out burger and that was in Carson in 2016.
- 54:48I haven't seen you in so long.
- 54:50Carson.
- 54:52This news broke last week.
- 54:54We didn't really get a chance to talk about it.
- 54:56They announced the site for semifinals.
- 54:58And one of the sites for semifinals is Carson.
- 55:01Crazy.
- 55:03Do you think super cool or super lame?
- 55:06Well, I think it means that there's going to be some expanded events at semifinals.
- 55:13Well, I guess there have been anyway.
- 55:15Because we're going back to the syndicate place.
- 55:19Yeah, but I wonder if there's going to be like multiple, like, is it going to be the soccer field or is it going to be the tennis stadium?
- 55:24Or is it going to be, or isn't it even at some other place?
- 55:27Like there's other places in Carson, but I assume they mean it was the old games venue.
- 55:37Like the Staples Center or StubHub Center, whatever it's called now.
- 55:39Yeah.
- 55:46I don't know if you're cutting out just for me or for everybody because I can't hear you.
- 55:52No.
- 55:53There you go.
- 56:01The venue that they announced in the announcement, when you go to the website, is the tennis stadium and the soccer field.
- 56:08Okay.
- 56:11And it's not, is it Knoxville?
- 56:14No.
- 56:15for the syndicate or is it somewhere else?
- 56:19So are they going to have an indoor and an outdoor thing?
- 56:29Say that again.
- 56:33No outdoor at Knoxville.
- 56:35There is no outdoor.
- 56:36Yeah, I didn't think so.
- 56:40But aren't the semifinals going to be like the same for everybody?
- 56:46Oh, yeah, I guess it doesn't matter.
- 56:56Well, yeah.
- 56:57Okay.
- 56:58Anyway, I should probably go.
- 57:02Last thing is, I think it is a good move, though, that they're going back to Loud and Live and the 12 Labors crew to run the events.
- 57:11They do it better than CrossFit does because they can get more manpower.
- 57:15Yeah.
- 57:19So I think that is a thumbs up.
- 57:21Yeah.
- 57:22They do it really well.
- 57:22They're good, good people too.
- 57:25Yeah.
- 57:27I mean, they brought on Wilson to help them anyway, so why not just let them do it?
- 57:30Right.
- 57:32Yeah.
- 57:32All those guys, even Taylor, all those folks.
- 57:36Yeah.
- 57:37Okay.
- 57:38With Dylan and all those folks and your favorite media person.
- 57:43Yeah.
- 57:44All my favorites.
- 57:47All right.
- 57:48We'll have a great rest of your work day.
- 57:51Everyone, thank you for hanging out.
- 57:53We'll have more on the Legends the rest of the week.
- 57:55Talk to you then.
- 57:56Bye, guys.
