- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, I'm down at the Harvey Grammar School today. Are
- 0:02Speaker 1: stumbled as I was coming along there on this event
- 0:05Speaker 1: and with the Next Generation sign outside, and I'm joined
- 0:09Speaker 1: by the owner Harry. Hello, Harry.
- 0:12Speaker 2: How are you? Yeah? Good? Thank you? How are you good?
- 0:14Speaker 1: I'm fine, thank you. Well I'm a bit croaky actually
- 0:17Speaker 1: that's what becomes of talking too much. So now stumbled
- 0:21Speaker 1: into the grammar school and your academy is called the
- 0:26Speaker 1: Next Generation Coaching. So tell us about that and how
- 0:30Speaker 1: it started.
- 0:31Speaker 3: So it kind of started a few years ago. We
- 0:33Speaker 3: started off by working in schools and then evening clubs
- 0:37Speaker 3: as well, and it's gradually just expanded and now we
- 0:40Speaker 3: run the academy as well alongside the evening and school clubs.
- 0:43Speaker 1: So basically, is it just football or is it other
- 0:46Speaker 1: things as well?
- 0:46Speaker 3: So the evening clubs and the academy is just football,
- 0:49Speaker 3: but when we are in schools we can teach any
- 0:52Speaker 3: type of pe.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So you go into schools as well. Do you still
- 0:55Speaker 1: do that?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, we do so throughout the day generally me
- 0:58Speaker 3: and the other coaches will be in a school for
- 1:01Speaker 3: the whole day. We then go to our evening clubs
- 1:04Speaker 3: for football, whether it's football for anyone, or whether it's
- 1:07Speaker 3: the academy. Sometimes we separate off and do our own thing.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Right, And does this go on all year round or
- 1:14Speaker 1: you're indoor outdoor?
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:16Speaker 3: So generally all our sessions are outdoor. The only session
- 1:21Speaker 3: that goes indoor is the Wildcat session. That's for girls only,
- 1:25Speaker 3: so primary school girls. And that's because we just don't
- 1:29Speaker 3: have a pitch with lights available, so we have to
- 1:31Speaker 3: go inside and use the hall.
- 1:33Speaker 1: And is the split is it boys and girls? And
- 1:36Speaker 1: how old are they?
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:37Speaker 3: So the company to begin with, we focus on the
- 1:40Speaker 3: girls quite a lot actually, and generally the sessions are
- 1:44Speaker 3: all primary school, but we're looking to set up secondary
- 1:47Speaker 3: school ones. The girls, we probably have one hundred different
- 1:51Speaker 3: girls every week attend our clubs and then boys, probably
- 1:55Speaker 3: about one hundred and fifty different boys as well.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So that's grown, is it? Oh?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's getting there right.
- 2:02Speaker 1: So now the big big thing that you're doing, apart
- 2:05Speaker 1: from growing every week, by the sound of it, you're
- 2:08Speaker 1: organizing this super duper trip to Barcelona.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yes, Now, how.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Did that come about? Is that your idea?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Yes?
- 2:15Speaker 3: So I actually set out something I wanted from the
- 2:19Speaker 3: academy for the kids, and I wanted to go on tour.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Now I didn't really know where or what I wanted
- 2:25Speaker 3: to do, but I actually done the Barcelona tour a
- 2:28Speaker 3: few years ago and it was brilliant, So I thought,
- 2:31Speaker 3: why not do that again where it's our first one.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I kind of know the location, know where to go already,
- 2:37Speaker 3: so I thought it'd be a bit easier. Yeah, from
- 2:39Speaker 3: my point of view. So we're taking two teams to
- 2:43Speaker 3: this one. We're taking our under tens and under elevens,
- 2:46Speaker 3: and then hopefully next year I don't know if it
- 2:48Speaker 3: would be Barcelona, but we're looking to take all our
- 2:50Speaker 3: academy teams.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Well, right, So I mean that is some undertaking, is it.
- 2:56Speaker 1: So do you kind of hand this over You've got
- 2:59Speaker 1: the use of a tour operator.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yes, so FTI Tours are kind of in charge of it.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I just have to kind of send all our data
- 3:07Speaker 3: across and then they deal with like the hotel bookings
- 3:11Speaker 3: and getting us to them from the hotel to the
- 3:13Speaker 3: football pitches.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Right. So the one thing that strikes me straight away
- 3:16Speaker 1: immediately is that because you're taking a lot of school children,
- 3:19Speaker 1: this has to be during the school holiday.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Yes, so this is actually over Easter weekend. Okay, yes,
- 3:25Speaker 3: so parents, a lot of our parents are actually using
- 3:27Speaker 3: it as a bit of a holiday and going out
- 3:29Speaker 3: a few days early. Yeah yeah, a few days earlier exactly, exactly.
- 3:35Speaker 3: But whether it's a day early or a few days early,
- 3:38Speaker 3: everyone seems to be making the most of it.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Oh great, that's great ideas bringing everyone together exactly, fantastic. Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 1: So do you know you've had experience of this competition?
- 3:47Speaker 1: I mean, what Wherebut will your opposition come from?
- 3:51Speaker 3: So all over the world really, So we've got actually
- 3:55Speaker 3: looked at the teams last night and there's a team
- 3:57Speaker 3: from Abu Dabbie obviously, teams from Spain, France, Portugal, Holland,
- 4:05Speaker 3: so it's mainly European teams, but it is worldwide as well.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Yeah okay, so right, so now the thing is we're
- 4:12Speaker 1: here at the grammar school today and there's a big
- 4:15Speaker 1: event that you're obviously trying to raise funds to help them,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you know, alleviate the cost of this trip. Tell us
- 4:23Speaker 1: I've had a walk around, but tell their listeners what's
- 4:25Speaker 1: going on here today?
- 4:27Speaker 3: So we've got a twelve hour football match that's been
- 4:29Speaker 3: happening since eight o'clock this morning and it's going on
- 4:32Speaker 3: to eight pm tonight. So that's one of the main
- 4:35Speaker 3: things that kids have been loving that.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Hang On hang On twelve football match. So not expecting
- 4:41Speaker 1: the kids to play.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Football, right, but basically everyone's kind of they pay ten
- 4:48Speaker 3: pound and they have a slot so they can stay
- 4:51Speaker 3: for an hour or you can stay for two hours
- 4:53Speaker 3: if you want to pay double the amount.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yes, completely up to the parents.
- 4:57Speaker 3: So later on we've actually got some adults coming in
- 5:00Speaker 3: and different businesses that are supporting the cause as well.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Oh that's a great idea. Yeah, So so that anyway
- 5:06Speaker 1: we're working, we'll do this sounds later, but that sounds
- 5:08Speaker 1: like a really good basis for the fundraising, isn't it.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So what else have you got along side of that?
- 5:13Speaker 3: So obviously the football match, and then we've got cake sale,
- 5:17Speaker 3: we've got a raffle, We've got people selling like hot sausage, rolls, refreshments,
- 5:23Speaker 3: and then we've got like two challenges. Football challenges, so
- 5:26Speaker 3: I have an inflatable dart board that people are trying
- 5:29Speaker 3: to get the top score on to win prizes, and
- 5:32Speaker 3: there's also a top bin challenge, so basically trying to
- 5:36Speaker 3: take a penalty kick and trying to get it into
- 5:38Speaker 3: the corners.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I see right now, I've seen the football darts. I've
- 5:42Speaker 1: seen it before, but just explain briefly what that is
- 5:46Speaker 1: because people might think you're just playing a dartboard.
- 5:48Speaker 3: So it's basically it's like a penalty shoot out, but
- 5:51Speaker 3: rather than kicking it at a goal, it's kicking out
- 5:53Speaker 3: at a big inflatable dart board. And they've got to
- 5:56Speaker 3: try and get the best score. So you get free football,
- 6:00Speaker 3: so like you'd get free dance, and they just add
- 6:02Speaker 3: up their score. The top three scores from the day
- 6:06Speaker 3: get a prize at the end.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Right, So the ball actually sticks to it.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yes, it's like velcrow, so the ball will when you
- 6:13Speaker 3: kick it, it will stick to the board and it's
- 6:15Speaker 3: stay there until someone peels it.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Okay, right, let's explain that. That's good. Okay, So now
- 6:21Speaker 1: all the kids that are going along, you know, you
- 6:23Speaker 1: see them every week. Now it's getting a bit closer
- 6:25Speaker 1: if it's easter. They're getting a bit excited. Now.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I think today has made it all real as well.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, and the parents getting a bit excited as well, yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 1: more than the kids. Yeah, Okay, now, this is a
- 6:36Speaker 1: brilliant project, Harry, and it's like an accumulation of all
- 6:40Speaker 1: your hard work coming good and so I think at
- 6:44Speaker 1: this point it's time to, if you like, name drop
- 6:47Speaker 1: a few people, think a few people. I know it's difficult,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but he's the only one you'd like to mention.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely.
- 6:53Speaker 3: So we have a main sponsor for the Academy and
- 6:56Speaker 3: to be honest, without them, probably wouldn't be doing it.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So that's a leap flawing. They're our main sponsors.
- 7:02Speaker 3: They've supported us from when we've set up to basically
- 7:06Speaker 3: provide help provide the kit for all the teams, and
- 7:10Speaker 3: then in terms of today obviously the Harvard grammar for
- 7:12Speaker 3: letting us use the facility, land Out and KAP have
- 7:16Speaker 3: also helped support some kit that's just for Barcelona and
- 7:20Speaker 3: the kids are yet to get that. Oh yeah, so
- 7:22Speaker 3: that might be a little bit of a surprise. Obviously,
- 7:25Speaker 3: everyone that's donated a prize for our raffle, and of
- 7:28Speaker 3: course everyone that's helped out throughout the day because everyone
- 7:31Speaker 3: here today is a volunteer, so without them it wouldn't
- 7:34Speaker 3: have happened.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Okay, So now if people are listening to this and
- 7:37Speaker 1: they think, you know, I'd like to know more about
- 7:40Speaker 1: next generation. Yeah, I assume now that all your spaces
- 7:43Speaker 1: are booked up for the trip, they might like to
- 7:46Speaker 1: come along to the next gen and perhaps look to
- 7:49Speaker 1: the future future trip. How can they get in touch
- 7:52Speaker 1: with you?
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so there's there's links on our website, links on
- 7:58Speaker 3: our social media for our website. Everything everything we do
- 8:02Speaker 3: is on the website as well. Yeah, because I understand
- 8:04Speaker 3: not everyone has social media, but I would say social
- 8:07Speaker 3: media website. Everything will be on there and if not,
- 8:10Speaker 3: my numbers on there so they can contact me.
- 8:12Speaker 1: And what do they look for? Is the next generation
- 8:14Speaker 1: something something or.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Yes, so next generation sports coaching and then we actually
- 8:19Speaker 3: run a separate one next Generation Football Academy, but they
- 8:23Speaker 3: run side by side on the website.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Okay, Harry, thank you so much for just taking five
- 8:28Speaker 1: minutes away from the hectic day that you've got today.
- 8:32Speaker 1: What time was you here this morning?
- 8:33Speaker 2: About seven o'clock seven?
- 8:35Speaker 1: And you won't be gone till probably Yeah, okay, Harry, really,
- 8:39Speaker 1: thank you so much. And when you get back, hopefully
- 8:42Speaker 1: if you get the time or we catch up again, Yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 1: you can pop into the studio and I'd love to
- 8:47Speaker 1: hear all about it and how you're representing the town
- 8:49Speaker 1: and folks in Barcelona.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, no, brilliant. Thanks for having Melco Yeah, thanks, Harry
