- 0:01Speaker 1: Line from the Skying You Center. This is the Kenny Report.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me tonight.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The flames of anti Semitism reignited in Sydney, fanning fears
- 0:13Speaker 2: across the country. I speak with the Labor Party heavyweight
- 0:17Speaker 2: who calls out a direct link between how Anthony alber
- 0:20Speaker 2: easy Labour's weakness on Israel and the extremism we're seeing
- 0:25Speaker 2: here at home.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Understand who your friends are and whose side you are
- 0:30Speaker 3: on right now, and the message you are sending back
- 0:32Speaker 3: here to Australia is that, Yeah, Israel and their supporters
- 0:37Speaker 3: in the Jewish community are bad guys. Deserve everything they
- 0:40Speaker 3: get effectively. And you know these resolutions that they support,
- 0:46Speaker 3: which are full of lies and distortions of propaganda. You
- 0:49Speaker 3: know this is what fuels the extremists back here. It
- 0:53Speaker 3: has to stop.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Chris.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I have more from Mike Kelly later, also Pauline Hanson
- 0:59Speaker 2: on the alien flag debate. And I'll look at who's
- 1:02Speaker 2: to blame for Anthony Albanesi's woes because he shaw wants
- 1:06Speaker 2: to blame everybody else. All that plenty of heavy staff.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Let's hope we can lighten it up a bit too.
- 1:12Speaker 2: With the Wednesday wrangle, let's get started. It has happened again.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We've warned about it on this program since October the
- 1:24Speaker 2: ninth last year. I tested your patience earlier this week,
- 1:28Speaker 2: showing you how often and how long we've been calling
- 1:31Speaker 2: out the weakness of Anthony Albanesi and the state governments
- 1:35Speaker 2: as they've stood by and let anti Semitism rise.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And now it's getting worse.
- 1:41Speaker 2: The synagogue firebombed in Melbourne last Friday, a couple of
- 1:45Speaker 2: worshipers inside. No lives lost, thankfully, many lives terrorized, though,
- 1:51Speaker 2: And in Sydney's Eastern suburbs last night, just like last month,
- 1:55Speaker 2: a car set a light and anti Israel slogan's defiling
- 1:59Speaker 2: ase and sending a chilling message around the country. Of course,
- 2:05Speaker 2: this vile act was condemned by all.
- 2:09Speaker 4: What is obviously a shocking morning in Sydney's East as
- 2:12Speaker 4: we respond to what we regard as a hate crime
- 2:16Speaker 4: on the streets of Sydney, a violent act of destruction,
- 2:20Speaker 4: clearly anti Semitic, designed to strike fear into the community
- 2:24Speaker 4: that lives in this part of Sydney. I want to
- 2:27Speaker 4: make it clear that this is antithetical and completely opposite
- 2:30Speaker 4: to the kind of community and society that we won
- 2:33Speaker 4: in Australia in twenty twenty four. This violent act will
- 2:37Speaker 4: be met with the full response from New South Wales police.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Two males who were disguised were seen running from that location,
- 2:45Speaker 5: we believe in their late teens early twenties. A police response.
- 2:50Speaker 5: A full response is underway and commenced immediately, with local
- 2:55Speaker 5: region and terrorism police being called out last night.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And all eyes and ears were again on the Prime
- 3:04Speaker 2: Minister after he was heckled at the Adas Synagogue yesterday,
- 3:08Speaker 2: visiting more than four days after the fire bombing, but
- 3:11Speaker 2: not staying for questions.
- 3:13Speaker 1: How buttes he spoke early today on the ABC.
- 3:18Speaker 6: This incident in the eastern subits of Sydney is an outroage.
- 3:22Speaker 6: It is another anti Semitic attack and all Australians must
- 3:27Speaker 6: condemn it. I've spoken with the AFP Commissioner Kershaw this morning,
- 3:34Speaker 6: I'll be briefed by AFP Operation Abellaide officials as well.
- 3:40Speaker 6: I stand with the Jewish community and unequivocally condemn this attack.
- 3:45Speaker 6: There's no place for any Semitism in this country or
- 3:48Speaker 6: any world for that matter.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Still, even on the ABC, most of the PM's time
- 3:54Speaker 2: was spent defending his lack of action over the past
- 3:58Speaker 2: fourteen months.
- 4:00Speaker 6: We now have legislation before the Parliament to criminalize hate speech,
- 4:03Speaker 6: including the urging or threatening a force or violence against
- 4:09Speaker 6: other individuals or groups because of who they are and
- 4:13Speaker 6: what their beliefs are. So we've consistently taken action, will
- 4:17Speaker 6: continue to take action. We'll continue to take advice as
- 4:22Speaker 6: well from the Special Envoy, and we'll continue as well
- 4:27Speaker 6: to listen to and to engage with our police forces
- 4:35Speaker 6: and the appropriate authorities.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Just horrible to listen to, isn't it. Where's the conviction,
- 4:41Speaker 2: Where's the clarity, Where's the leadership? Later reporters tried for
- 4:46Speaker 2: more on camera.
- 4:48Speaker 7: Critics have said, it's about changing Laver's changing policy.
- 4:51Speaker 1: What do you say to that?
- 4:52Speaker 8: What has your message to this?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Really is your methode? Prime Minister?
- 4:56Speaker 2: And later this afternoon, the Prime Minister visited the Jewish
- 5:00Speaker 2: Holocaust Museum in Sydney's Darlinghurst, just a few kilometers from
- 5:04Speaker 2: where the anti Semitic attack sites in Wallara were Better
- 5:08Speaker 2: late than never, I guess.
- 5:10Speaker 8: This is quite horrific.
- 5:14Speaker 6: It is something that is I think quite shocking, not
- 5:21Speaker 6: what you would expect in country like Australia. What we've
- 5:25Speaker 6: see needs to be a very clear message that's completely unacceptable.
- 5:32Speaker 1: It needs to stop.
- 5:35Speaker 2: But all this has been true for more than a year,
- 5:38Speaker 2: so this from Albanezi today looks like either sorrow or
- 5:43Speaker 2: desperate political catch up. I mean, with all this going on,
- 5:46Speaker 2: I took my own kids to that same museum back
- 5:49Speaker 2: in April. Anyway, more tellingly, a senior Labor figure, the
- 5:55Speaker 2: former Army colonel and Defense material Minister Mike Kelly, has
- 6:00Speaker 2: told me that Labour's abandonment of Israel in diplomacy and
- 6:04Speaker 2: public debate is playing right into the domestic extremism.
- 6:10Speaker 3: You know, we know where this leads. It's a stepping stone.
- 6:12Speaker 3: And what really disturbs me and concerns me now and
- 6:16Speaker 3: the risk of there at a dust was the loss
- 6:18Speaker 3: of human life. And so it's time now to anup
- 6:21Speaker 3: to really make this a bipartisan push and pump the
- 6:25Speaker 3: brakes on all this virtue signaling at the UN.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Kelly suggests that lives are at stake here and he
- 6:35Speaker 2: implores Labor to stand by Israel and stamp out anti Semitism,
- 6:40Speaker 2: slamming Foreign Minister Penny Wong over those comments. I showed
- 6:44Speaker 2: you last night lumping Israel in with China and Russia.
- 6:48Speaker 2: I'll have Mike Kelly's full inter view later in the program.
- 6:51Speaker 2: We also need to touch on the key factor that
- 6:54Speaker 2: nobody seems willing to discuss the role of the Australian
- 6:58Speaker 2: Muslim community. Not all Musli, of course, most Muslims love
- 7:02Speaker 2: this country and contribute to it in a peaceful and
- 7:05Speaker 2: positive way. But we can't ignore how virulent hatred against
- 7:09Speaker 2: Israel comes from some elements of the Muslim community.
- 7:13Speaker 1: We saw that on October the eighth last year. That's
- 7:18Speaker 1: a day of courage.
- 7:29Speaker 2: And we saw it again infamously the following night at
- 7:33Speaker 2: the Opera House. And we've heard vile hate preaching from
- 7:43Speaker 2: religious leaders.
- 7:46Speaker 9: The trees will speak, the soul will speak, and I'll say,
- 7:49Speaker 9: Muslim believer, there is a YAHOODI behind me, come and
- 7:53Speaker 9: kill him.
- 7:55Speaker 2: This is the stuff that our political leaders have failed
- 7:58Speaker 2: to confront.
- 7:59Speaker 1: They avert their eyes.
- 8:01Speaker 2: This is the stuff that strikes fear into the hearts
- 8:04Speaker 2: of Jewish Australian families. And in this climate, the Albanese
- 8:08Speaker 2: government has brought in hundreds of refugees from Hummus controlled
- 8:13Speaker 2: Gaza without extensive security checks. Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott
- 8:18Speaker 2: has carefully addressed all.
- 8:20Speaker 1: This in The Australian Today.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Abbot says we shouldn't wimp out on the immigration debate.
- 8:28Speaker 2: In most Western countries, the anti Jewish tarads, near riots,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and many crystal nuts started even before Israel's just war
- 8:37Speaker 2: against Hummas in the aftermath of the October the Seventh atrocity,
- 8:41Speaker 2: Abbot notes, yet authorities have danced around prosecuting or deporting
- 8:47Speaker 2: hate preachers, clearing encampments, and banning disruptive protests because they
- 8:53Speaker 2: don't want to be accused of a nonexistent Islamophobia, especially
- 8:58Speaker 2: by the militant leaders of poorly integrated immigrant communities, which
- 9:03Speaker 2: in Australia and even more in Britain now comprise a
- 9:06Speaker 2: large proportion of some Cabinet minister's electorates. That's a tough
- 9:11Speaker 2: but well founded observation from the former Prime Minister. Abbot's
- 9:15Speaker 2: daring to point out something that our leaders, certainly Albanezing
- 9:19Speaker 2: and his Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke, twist themselves in
- 9:23Speaker 2: knots to avoid.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Abbot goes on.
- 9:26Speaker 2: To say that having a non discriminatory immigration policy doesn't
- 9:30Speaker 2: mean accepting everyone from anywhere all the time, especially as
- 9:36Speaker 2: their migrant sources diversify. Settler societies need a strong civic
- 9:41Speaker 2: patriotism to replace fading ethnic and religious ones. Yeah, these
- 9:47Speaker 2: are tough issues and we need to be able to
- 9:49Speaker 2: discuss them without being accused of Islamophobia. And one way
- 9:54Speaker 2: to reassure people right now would be for Muslim community
- 9:59Speaker 2: leaders to speak out, speak out against the anti Semitism,
- 10:03Speaker 2: against the terrorist symbols, and speak out against the hatred.
- 10:09Speaker 2: So far, their silence has been deafening. Okay, that's the
- 10:18Speaker 2: stuff that really matters the law and order, the social cohesion,
- 10:22Speaker 2: and the diplomacy. But this is also about the grubby
- 10:25Speaker 2: business of politics. What does this tell us about Anthony
- 10:29Speaker 2: Albanesi's leadership or lack thereof, and the future of his government? Well,
- 10:35Speaker 2: you wonder how anyone could be intending to vote labor,
- 10:38Speaker 2: grens or tills. You wonder how labor could still be
- 10:41Speaker 2: effectively neck and neck in the polls, don't you? But
- 10:44Speaker 2: the thing is that huge swathes of the population just
- 10:47Speaker 2: don't see or hear or read a realistic analysis analysis
- 10:52Speaker 2: of exactly what's going on. I happened to watch the
- 10:55Speaker 2: ABC seven point thirty last night, And have a look
- 10:58Speaker 2: at this analysis using how Peter Dutton is tackling Albanesi
- 11:03Speaker 2: over anti Semitism.
- 11:05Speaker 10: If you notice that language that he was using, it's
- 11:08Speaker 10: what he keeps using in these circumstances, which is it's
- 11:10Speaker 10: all about Anthony Alberici being weak, and which is the
- 11:15Speaker 10: point he keeps wanting to make, and he will use
- 11:18Speaker 10: various issues to make that.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Point, using various issues to make Alberanzi seem weak.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Maybe just maybe Albo is weak.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Maybe, as we've been pointing out here, he's insipid on
- 11:36Speaker 2: just about everything. Maybe if Albo stopped being weak, the
- 11:41Speaker 2: opposition wouldn't get away with calling him weak. Still, even
- 11:46Speaker 2: Laura Tengle had to address a shocking few days for
- 11:49Speaker 2: the Prime Minister.
- 11:51Speaker 10: Well, I think certainly the optics of this have been
- 11:54Speaker 10: terrible for the Prime minister. The fact that it looked
- 11:56Speaker 10: like he hadn't been there, that he was in Perth,
- 11:59Speaker 10: that there was all talk about in playing tennis.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Looks like he hadn't been there. He hadn't been there,
- 12:07Speaker 2: that's just a fact. And talk about playing tennis. He
- 12:13Speaker 2: was playing tennis. And even the ABC host has to
- 12:16Speaker 2: had to point out that there were pictures to prove it.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Let's go back.
- 12:21Speaker 10: There was all this talk about in playing tennis photos indeed,
- 12:27Speaker 10: and having drinks for Donas, all those things. None of
- 12:29Speaker 10: that plays out at all.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Well, wait on for a moment.
- 12:36Speaker 2: You might think that's sounding like a more realistic assessment,
- 12:40Speaker 2: but no single went on to make the alban Easy
- 12:43Speaker 2: Labor government's case.
- 12:45Speaker 10: None of that plays out at all. Well, but you know,
- 12:48Speaker 10: the government's record is that they have moved on a
- 12:51Speaker 10: whole range of fronts to try to crack down on
- 12:55Speaker 10: you anti hate speech of all sorts, but it has
- 12:59Speaker 10: also been trying to maintained some sort of middle path
- 13:02Speaker 10: so that you know, there are two sides in this dispute,
- 13:06Speaker 10: and they've been trying to not inflame the situation.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Two sides, two sides to the anti semitism debate. Really
- 13:18Speaker 2: what the Jewish side and the hater's side, the victim
- 13:23Speaker 2: side and the aggressive side.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Should we give them equal credence?
- 13:29Speaker 2: There are actually two sides, the right side and the
- 13:32Speaker 2: wrong side or is that too binary for the green
- 13:36Speaker 2: left cabal at the ABC the ones we pay for.
- 13:40Speaker 10: But it went on, I mean, Peter Dutton is accusing
- 13:44Speaker 10: the government of He says a police have been standing
- 13:47Speaker 10: on the sidelines at the direction of the government.
- 13:49Speaker 8: Now that's a.
- 13:50Speaker 10: Pretty big statement to make and carries all sorts of
- 13:54Speaker 10: connotations which you know, you know, you've got to sort
- 13:57Speaker 10: of really be able.
- 13:58Speaker 1: To back up.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Well, the fact is police have stood by, as we've
- 14:03Speaker 2: pointed out, since October last year. They've watched hate speech
- 14:07Speaker 2: and they've made no arrests. They've arrested people waving Jewish
- 14:11Speaker 2: flags for their own safety rather than tackle the aggressive protesters.
- 14:16Speaker 2: And if governments haven't directed police to stand back, they
- 14:20Speaker 2: certainly haven't directed them to be proactive because we know
- 14:24Speaker 2: what we've seen. And Labor has effectively admitted its own
- 14:28Speaker 2: failings in this by setting up on Monday, a full
- 14:32Speaker 2: fourteen months late, a special police task force on anti Semitism.
- 14:38Speaker 2: They've conceded the point now, even if Tingle and the
- 14:42Speaker 2: ABC haven't. Tingle then went on to bag Dutton over
- 14:45Speaker 2: the Australian flag issue. I happen to be watching this
- 14:49Speaker 2: with a tween ager who asked me who was speaking.
- 14:52Speaker 2: I said, that's Laura Tingle and they asked, is she
- 14:55Speaker 2: a Labor MP. Fair enough, assumption, I guess, but some
- 15:00Speaker 2: on the left are starting to wake up. The Nine
- 15:04Speaker 2: Media economics writer Ross Gittens wrote today that he was
- 15:07Speaker 2: losing faith in Albo and fellow conservative hating columnist Nicki
- 15:12Speaker 2: Sava reckons even if Albou wins the election, he ought
- 15:15Speaker 2: to quit and perhaps head off to that beach house.
- 15:19Speaker 2: As you know, I warned before the election that Albou
- 15:22Speaker 2: wasn't up to the job, but early on we all
- 15:23Speaker 2: gave him a go, as you do, hoping the nation
- 15:26Speaker 2: will succeed. I even praised him early on for standing
- 15:29Speaker 2: up to China and backing Orcus. But he's failed terribly
- 15:33Speaker 2: on border security, on energy, self harm, on reckless spending.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Eventually caw tawing to China, and he's failed us terribly
- 15:41Speaker 2: over Israel and anti Semitism. He's got no clear political values,
- 15:46Speaker 2: he shows no leadership instincts, and he has no conviction yet.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Nine media newspapers today reported that Albanezi told Cabinet that
- 15:57Speaker 2: News Corp, which publishes the Australian newspaper, the major tabloids
- 16:02Speaker 2: in most cities and owns this station. He says News
- 16:05Speaker 2: Corp is in cahoots with the coalition against Labor, said
- 16:11Speaker 2: that News Corp and Albanesi said that News Corp and
- 16:14Speaker 2: the opposition were now working hand in glove and that
- 16:17Speaker 2: this was an embedded part of the political dynamic that.
- 16:20Speaker 1: We all needed to deal with. One of these cabinet
- 16:22Speaker 1: sources said, well.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Certainly the criticism of Alberesi and Labor has ramped up,
- 16:28Speaker 2: even from his usual allies, as I just showed you.
- 16:32Speaker 2: So maybe it's just that he's failed to deliver on
- 16:34Speaker 2: his promises, you know, of lower electricity prices, lower mortgage
- 16:39Speaker 2: rates and easing the cost of living. Isn't this just
- 16:43Speaker 2: another case of Albanesi finding someone else to blame because
- 16:47Speaker 2: he's never responsible. Almost it truly is his theme song,
- 17:11Speaker 2: isn't it. It's just perfect And you know, I hate
- 17:14Speaker 2: to boast, but I came up with that observation and
- 17:16Speaker 2: found that song all on my own months ago, without
- 17:21Speaker 2: any edict from whoever is supposed to tell us what
- 17:23Speaker 2: to think here at News Corp. I'm responsible for my
- 17:27Speaker 2: own views and performance, and Prime Minister, so are you.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Let's catch up with Pauline Hanson, now One Nation founder
- 17:41Speaker 2: and Lydia joining us live from Scenic Rim in Queensland.
- 17:44Speaker 2: First up, Pauline, I have to get your thoughts on
- 17:47Speaker 2: the Prime Minister's response to these anti Semitic attacks in
- 17:51Speaker 2: Melbourne and Sydney. It all seems to me, as I've
- 17:54Speaker 2: made very clear, way too little and way too late.
- 18:00Speaker 7: Chris, you have summed it up perfectly as what I
- 18:03Speaker 7: was going to say. I watched his interview this afternoon.
- 18:06Speaker 7: I thought it was pathetic. I think it was too little,
- 18:08Speaker 7: too late, and something should have been done about it
- 18:11Speaker 7: October last year. He's done nothing to rain in the
- 18:16Speaker 7: Greens in the Senate who wear that Palestinian shawl, Lydia
- 18:22Speaker 7: Thorpe her outburst and Patom Hayman, they do abstually nothing
- 18:26Speaker 7: to rain them in. I wore a Jewish scarf in
- 18:29Speaker 7: the chamber and I was told to remove it and
- 18:33Speaker 7: otherwise I leave the chamber. So anyway, so I left
- 18:36Speaker 7: the chamber. But the whole fact is, you're exactly right
- 18:39Speaker 7: what she said. And I also said, nice guy. He
- 18:43Speaker 7: will not make a leader. And I've been proven right
- 18:45Speaker 7: as you have been. He hasn't got what it takes.
- 18:48Speaker 7: He's not a conviction politician. He sits on the fans.
- 18:52Speaker 7: He hasn't got good people around him. All the ministers
- 18:55Speaker 7: are useless what is on here. He's been forced into
- 19:00Speaker 7: to having a media conference today with the Jewish community
- 19:03Speaker 7: of where it's at the moment. They haven't done enough
- 19:06Speaker 7: to deal with it. We have, and especially Chris also
- 19:10Speaker 7: bringing people in from the gaza is the wrong thing
- 19:13Speaker 7: to do. You have tensions there. There are tensions between
- 19:16Speaker 7: different two different religious groups and organizations. The Jewish people
- 19:21Speaker 7: have not been responsible for any hatred in this country,
- 19:24Speaker 7: but we've allowed, the Primis has allowed and the premiers,
- 19:28Speaker 7: labor premiers have allowed for these protest rallies to happen
- 19:33Speaker 7: in their streets in the cities all over the country
- 19:36Speaker 7: and nothing was done about it. The Jewish people were
- 19:39Speaker 7: the ones who were pulled up told to move on,
- 19:41Speaker 7: and the hate preachers nothing done about it. You were
- 19:44Speaker 7: spot on everything that you said. I totally agree with
- 19:46Speaker 7: everything that you said.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I have a heavy heart about all this, Pauline, because
- 19:52Speaker 2: this is why we called it out way back on
- 19:53Speaker 2: October the ninth last year, because you could see unless
- 19:56Speaker 2: this was stamped out early, it would get worse. Unless
- 19:59Speaker 2: this was really ruled out by our political and law
- 20:03Speaker 2: enforcement officers, this stuff would gather momentum and fester, and
- 20:07Speaker 2: it breaks my heart because so many were calling on
- 20:10Speaker 2: governments to do that. They have failed us and now
- 20:12Speaker 2: this stuff is festering to a level that we just
- 20:15Speaker 2: could not have imagined in this country. I did need
- 20:18Speaker 2: to move on to something else because Peter dunn't said
- 20:20Speaker 2: something else to my colleague Peter Kreedlin earlier in the
- 20:22Speaker 2: week where he's going to maintain if he becomes Prime Minister,
- 20:25Speaker 2: the practice he's adopted in opposition, that is standing in
- 20:28Speaker 2: front of only one flag, the Australian flag.
- 20:30Speaker 1: It seems incredible that.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Such a statement could be controversial in this country, but
- 20:35Speaker 2: it is. He's come under all sorts of criticism from
- 20:39Speaker 2: the left and from the Labor government. And here's what
- 20:42Speaker 2: is a shadow Indigenous Affairs minister just sent to Namba.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Jimper Prices had to say about it.
- 20:47Speaker 11: When Peter and I delivered a press conference on October
- 20:51Speaker 11: fourteenth when the referendum results came in.
- 20:53Speaker 8: That is exactly what we did.
- 20:55Speaker 11: We stood in front of just the Australian flag because
- 21:00Speaker 11: after that result, particularly, it was evident to us that
- 21:04Speaker 11: the Australian people one day united Australia where we are
- 21:08Speaker 11: all represented by one.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Flag, just into navaginper Price in our pulling hands. And
- 21:15Speaker 2: I assume you would agree wholeheartedly with this move. I
- 21:17Speaker 2: seem to remember a famous photo of you completely draped
- 21:21Speaker 2: in the Australian flag.
- 21:24Speaker 7: I was nineteen ninety six and that's how proud I
- 21:26Speaker 7: am of our Australian flag. And Chris I have said it.
- 21:29Speaker 7: I was furious when they brought in the three flags
- 21:32Speaker 7: into the chamber, into the Senate. I think it's wrong
- 21:34Speaker 7: and it should not be allowed three flags. We are
- 21:37Speaker 7: one flag, one nation and one people, and that's how
- 21:40Speaker 7: it should be. We are one nation. That's what I've
- 21:43Speaker 7: said all long. But fact it is divisive and I
- 21:46Speaker 7: hope that Peter Dutton's see through with that if he
- 21:49Speaker 7: becomes primeis with this country. Get rid of the flags
- 21:52Speaker 7: out of the chamber unless if you want to put
- 21:54Speaker 7: a referendum to the people of Australia, let them have
- 21:57Speaker 7: their sawn when they want the three flags, but get
- 21:59Speaker 7: rid of it on government buildings. And also the rainbow flag.
- 22:02Speaker 7: That's another one. I am angry about the rainbow flag
- 22:06Speaker 7: as well. So anyway, no, I.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Totally agree flag.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Yeah, one flag is enough for most countries. It does
- 22:14Speaker 2: seem a weird situation. Pauline, thanks for joining us throughout
- 22:17Speaker 2: the year. It's been great to have your regular company
- 22:20Speaker 2: and insights on the program. We've agreed and we've disagreed,
- 22:22Speaker 2: but it's always great to have the discussion. So Merry
- 22:25Speaker 2: Christmas and happy New Year to you, and look look
- 22:28Speaker 2: forward to catching up in twenty twenty five.
- 22:32Speaker 7: Same to you. Thanks Chris.
- 22:36Speaker 1: That's Pauline Hanson there.
- 22:37Speaker 2: I want to go to Thailand now because we want
- 22:39Speaker 2: to catch up with Colin Rubinstein, who's with the Australian
- 22:41Speaker 2: Israel and Jewish Affairs Counsel. He's in Pouquet at the moment.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Great to talk to you again, Colin. I want to
- 22:47Speaker 2: draw attention you may not have been across this because
- 22:50Speaker 2: it's an interview that I'm yet to play in this program,
- 22:52Speaker 2: but a man that you would know well, the former
- 22:55Speaker 2: Labor Defense Material Minister Mike Kelly, has actually called out
- 22:59Speaker 2: the between Labour's stance on Israel at the United Nations
- 23:04Speaker 2: and elsewhere and feeding into the extremism here at home.
- 23:08Speaker 2: We're seeing these antisemitic attacks at home. He says there's
- 23:12Speaker 2: a direct link between these two and Labor needs to
- 23:15Speaker 2: more strongly support Israel in international forums.
- 23:18Speaker 12: Your response, Look, Mike Kelly is a very good judge,
- 23:22Speaker 12: and I think it's undeniable that the government cannot claim
- 23:28Speaker 12: no responsibility for the terrible rise of anti Semitism in Australia.
- 23:34Speaker 12: I mean they've been consistently one sided and biased in
- 23:37Speaker 12: their approach since coming to government. Of course, they tilted
- 23:41Speaker 12: against Israel. They withdrew recognition of West Jerusalem as Israel's capital,
- 23:46Speaker 12: they insisted on calling the territories occupied Palestinian territories, they
- 23:50Speaker 12: changed their votes in the UN. But since October seven,
- 23:54Speaker 12: we've seen an avalanche of one sided, ill informed, unrealistic,
- 23:58Speaker 12: morally confuseditions by this government. And we saw so much
- 24:03Speaker 12: of that reiterated again in the very one sided, deeply
- 24:07Speaker 12: disappointing corp lecture by the Foreign Minister the other night
- 24:10Speaker 12: in Adelaide, claiming somehow an equivalence between Israel's very lawful
- 24:16Speaker 12: self defense with the current behavior of Russia and China.
- 24:21Speaker 12: I mean, Israel is complying with international law to the hilt,
- 24:26Speaker 12: and it's the failure to attack the tactics of hamas
- 24:31Speaker 12: their human shield and human sacrifice tactics, deliberately putting at
- 24:36Speaker 12: risk innocent Palestinian lives. That we find the government not
- 24:41Speaker 12: focusing on twelve hundred people killed on October seven, two
- 24:46Speaker 12: hundred and fifty hostages. Where's that continued demand for the
- 24:50Speaker 12: release of those hostages and the false sort of notion
- 24:53Speaker 12: about two state resolution calling for the recognition of a
- 24:57Speaker 12: Palestinian state. Now, their history is the Palestinians do not
- 25:02Speaker 12: want two states. They wanted one state. They rejected very viable,
- 25:06Speaker 12: genuine office of two states, asked President Clinton, ask prime ministers,
- 25:11Speaker 12: indeed walked away. It's forward and even was accused of
- 25:18Speaker 12: not being interested in this part. It may be an option,
- 25:22Speaker 12: but yeah, culture.
- 25:27Speaker 2: It's a fine aspiration, but it's a delusional concept at
- 25:30Speaker 2: the moment, that's for sure. I never forget those hostages,
- 25:33Speaker 2: almost one hundred of them still unaccounted for. But I
- 25:36Speaker 2: do want to go to what Anthony Albanese he did today, Colin,
- 25:41Speaker 2: because when he visited the Jewish Museum in Darlinghurst in Sydney,
- 25:44Speaker 2: he was asked about Australia's changed position at the United
- 25:49Speaker 2: Nations and he claimed that he was still a strong
- 25:51Speaker 2: supporter of Israel.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Here's Anthony Albanese.
- 25:54Speaker 6: There's no change to Australia's position. Australia's position is support
- 26:01Speaker 6: a two state solution. I said that last night the
- 26:04Speaker 6: right of Israel to exist in secure borders. I also
- 26:09Speaker 6: have been a long term supporter of Palestinian state and
- 26:17Speaker 6: I think, though very clearly, that cannot involve a mass.
- 26:21Speaker 2: So colin Australia changes its vote, but not its position.
- 26:25Speaker 12: Your reaction, well, of course that's an untenable statement by
- 26:30Speaker 12: the Prime Minister. Australia has tilted heavily against Israel in
- 26:37Speaker 12: a way that's counterproductive to the reasonable long term objectives.
- 26:42Speaker 12: I mean, most Israelis were for a two state outcome
- 26:45Speaker 12: twenty years ago, but what they've seen, the Palestinians don't
- 26:48Speaker 12: want it. Hamas exists to destroy Israel and kill Jews,
- 26:52Speaker 12: and the Palestinian authority where their paid to slate tactics
- 26:55Speaker 12: and so on, aren't much better. So what we need
- 26:58Speaker 12: is not to reward that terrorism calling for a Palestinian state. Now,
- 27:02Speaker 12: what we need is the de haamassification of the Palestinians
- 27:05Speaker 12: like we saw the de nazification of the Germanis after
- 27:09Speaker 12: World War Two. So you have a Palestinian culture and
- 27:12Speaker 12: people and leadership willing to live in peace alongside Israel
- 27:16Speaker 12: rather than being committed to its destruction. And that's what
- 27:19Speaker 12: the premiature call for a Palestinian state. Now, of course
- 27:24Speaker 12: undermines it does it jack opposite to what the Prime
- 27:27Speaker 12: Minister claims that he wants. So the policy is not
- 27:30Speaker 12: only unrealistic, it doesn't deal with the realities. It's morally
- 27:34Speaker 12: confused and quite counterproductive to the end result that many wants.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Colin, Yeah, Colin Ruversiin, thanks very much, I appreciate it.
- 27:47Speaker 1: We are out of time. I appreciate it.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Happy Haneker to you and they will catch up with
- 27:51Speaker 2: you in the new year.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Colin Ruvenstein. They're joining us live from Thailand. Now we've
- 27:56Speaker 1: got to take a break.
- 27:56Speaker 2: On the other side, we're going to talk about the
- 27:58Speaker 2: PM opening up the checks book.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Check we'll go to your checkbook for extra childcare subsidies.
- 28:08Speaker 5: Now.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Also today the Prime Minister was busy opening up our checkbook,
- 28:12Speaker 2: expanding childcare subsidies to every family earning less than five
- 28:17Speaker 2: hundred and thirty thousand dollars a year. The activity test
- 28:21Speaker 2: has also been scrapped, meaning parents no longer need to be.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Working to access the subsidy. Here's the PM.
- 28:27Speaker 6: We want to make sure that your decision isn't dictated.
- 28:30Speaker 3: To by where you live, or what you do for a.
- 28:33Speaker 6: Living a strudmo one thing, only what you want for
- 28:38Speaker 6: your child. This is the future we're working to build.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Let's bring in liberal Zoe Mackenzie, the Member for Flinders,
- 28:46Speaker 2: joining us from Victoria as Zoey. Look, we all know
- 28:50Speaker 2: people need and love a childcare. But he goes another
- 28:53Speaker 2: billion dollars, just another billion dollars from a surely reckless
- 28:57Speaker 2: spending government with an inflation problem.
- 29:01Speaker 13: I don't know if you've noticed this, Chris, but every
- 29:02Speaker 13: time the Prime Minister finds himself in deep political trouble,
- 29:06Speaker 13: there's some kind of magical announcement that appears from a
- 29:10Speaker 13: blue urgent urgent.
- 29:11Speaker 8: So today it's childcare.
- 29:13Speaker 13: And the immediate aftermath of the anniversary of October seven,
- 29:16Speaker 13: you may recall them, made a complete hash of his
- 29:21Speaker 13: comments about that anniversary. He had to rush in save
- 29:25Speaker 13: the NBN public ownership legislation.
- 29:28Speaker 8: This has become a bit of a pattern.
- 29:29Speaker 13: He's got like a hot water shelf, Grab something off
- 29:31Speaker 13: the hot water shelf and quickly announce it. But again
- 29:34Speaker 13: you're right, it's the taxpayer's money. There has been an
- 29:39Speaker 13: activity test that is there to make sure that people
- 29:42Speaker 13: are going out working learning, have a subsidy for their childcare.
- 29:48Speaker 13: I'm all in favor of assistance with childcare. It's really important.
- 29:52Speaker 13: It's unrealistic to think that you can own a house
- 29:54Speaker 13: in this country without having two incomes behind you.
- 29:57Speaker 8: So childcare is important.
- 29:58Speaker 13: But right now we're subsidized the wages end, we're subsidizing
- 30:02Speaker 13: the fees end. We're subsidizing the fees end. Whether you're
- 30:05Speaker 13: working or not. You've got to make hard decisions in
- 30:09Speaker 13: government about the right way to spend people's money. This one,
- 30:12Speaker 13: at this point in time without some detail, doesn't pass
- 30:14Speaker 13: the pub test.
- 30:17Speaker 2: So does that mean that the coalition would scrap this
- 30:20Speaker 2: if it were to come to government. Is the five
- 30:22Speaker 2: hundred and thirty thousand dollars cut off too high and
- 30:26Speaker 2: do you need a more stringent activity test?
- 30:29Speaker 13: I think my senior colleagues Chris have be're very careful
- 30:32Speaker 13: to say we look forward to seeing the further detail.
- 30:33Speaker 13: At the moment, it's just a thought about well from
- 30:35Speaker 13: the Prime Minister in Brisbane who's shoveling very hard to
- 30:37Speaker 13: get away from the press of the last few days.
- 30:40Speaker 13: In his complete mishandling of the outrageous firewoman of a
- 30:43Speaker 13: synagogue in Melbourne last week, and not to mention what
- 30:47Speaker 13: happened in Wallara last night. He's desperate to change the topic.
- 30:51Speaker 13: We will look at the detail when it comes, but
- 30:53Speaker 13: at this point, the one thing I think you can say,
- 30:55Speaker 13: based on our comments today is that activity test is
- 30:59Speaker 13: intant to make sure the money is well targeted. Three
- 31:03Speaker 13: days of subsidized childcare even if you're not working or
- 31:06Speaker 13: looking to work. We're starving to get back into the
- 31:08Speaker 13: work at a time when the Australian economy is on
- 31:11Speaker 13: its knees. Our small businesses are going out of business
- 31:14Speaker 13: at the rate bo over twenty thousand in the last
- 31:16Speaker 13: year alone. Red tape is killing them, Industrial law changes
- 31:20Speaker 13: are killing them.
- 31:21Speaker 8: Increase interest rates. Because most of my small businesses are.
- 31:23Speaker 13: Backed by home loan somewhere, they're paying an extra twenty
- 31:26Speaker 13: six thousand dollars a year and the rest just in
- 31:29Speaker 13: interest payments. You've got to be careful about how you
- 31:33Speaker 13: spend your money. And to give people three days without
- 31:37Speaker 13: an activity test let's see the detail. But on day
- 31:42Speaker 13: one it doesn't look good.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Now it looks like more pre election of vote buying.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I'm afraid just what we don't need when there's an
- 31:51Speaker 2: inflation problem and we want interest rates to come down.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us, Zoe, I appreciate it.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Thanks Chris, Zoe McKenzie their live from Victoria. I got
- 32:01Speaker 1: to take a break. On the other side of that.
- 32:03Speaker 2: I'm going to show you the full interview I had
- 32:05Speaker 2: with Mike Kelly. He's the labor heavyweight who calls out
- 32:08Speaker 2: now a direct link between the Albaneze labor government's weakness
- 32:12Speaker 2: on Israel and the extremism we're seeing at home.
- 32:20Speaker 1: As I showed you at the top of the.
- 32:21Speaker 2: Program, former Army colonel and Labor Minister for Defense Material
- 32:25Speaker 2: Mike Kelly has claimed a clear link between the Albaneze
- 32:29Speaker 2: Labor government's criticism of Israel at the United Nations and
- 32:32Speaker 2: the anti Israel.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Hatred we're seeing here at home.
- 32:36Speaker 2: He's also warned that lives could be lost if anti
- 32:39Speaker 2: Semitism is not curtailed. Remember Kelly joined me last Thursday
- 32:44Speaker 2: and he said this.
- 32:46Speaker 3: The government is putting at risk our national security here
- 32:51Speaker 3: and our social cohesion, because it appears as if they're
- 32:55Speaker 3: rewarding every new escalated act of violence out there by
- 33:00Speaker 3: those activists who are committed to that course of action,
- 33:04Speaker 3: and so every time that they're rewarded for those causes
- 33:07Speaker 3: of action, they're just emboldened to take it further.
- 33:12Speaker 2: And just hours later we had that fire bombing at
- 33:15Speaker 2: the synagogue in Melbourne. So when I spoke with Mike
- 33:19Speaker 2: Kelly today, I said that news was probably a horrible
- 33:23Speaker 2: vindication of his warning and a realization of his worst fears.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Chris, I was sick to my stomach. You know, I'd
- 33:29Speaker 3: just been at an event that the German ambassador and
- 33:32Speaker 3: Israeli ambassador were conducting on the grounds of the Israeli Embassy,
- 33:36Speaker 3: unveiling a pluque to the memory of William Cooper, who
- 33:39Speaker 3: was a wonderful indigenous leader who was the only private
- 33:41Speaker 3: person in the world conducted a demonstration against the christoinner
- 33:46Speaker 3: atrocities in Germany. And to see what happened in Melbourne
- 33:51Speaker 3: thats Israel was just a shock. And you know, we
- 33:54Speaker 3: know where this leads. It's a stepping stone. And what
- 33:56Speaker 3: really disturbs me and concerns me now the risk of
- 34:00Speaker 3: there added dust was the loss of human life. And
- 34:03Speaker 3: so it's time now to really make this a bipartisan
- 34:07Speaker 3: push and pump the brakes on all this virtue signaling
- 34:11Speaker 3: at the UN which is without question feeding this and
- 34:17Speaker 3: really the comments from Pennywong yesterday really aren't helping.
- 34:23Speaker 2: I'll come back to Penny Wong and Foreign affairs. But
- 34:27Speaker 2: we've had another hateful attack now in Sydney's he's just
- 34:30Speaker 2: like last month anti Israel slogan's a car burned and
- 34:34Speaker 2: this happening at a location close to synagogue's and Jewish schools. Now,
- 34:38Speaker 2: Anthony Albaneze, he was slow to go the Melbourne, he
- 34:41Speaker 2: was slow to dub the attack there active terrorism. He
- 34:45Speaker 2: was slow to set up in Anti Semitism task force.
- 34:48Speaker 2: But he's done all that now has the government's response
- 34:50Speaker 2: been good enough at least on this law enforcement aspect.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Look, I welcome the task force and I welcome the funding,
- 35:00Speaker 3: but we also have to address the root causes and
- 35:03Speaker 3: the issues here, and that means, you know, a full
- 35:07Speaker 3: court press on making sure that across the political divide,
- 35:11Speaker 3: we're making our voices clear about these sort of things
- 35:13Speaker 3: that the policing is rigorous and absolutely clear cut with
- 35:19Speaker 3: no sort of theories and strategies now of saying, oh,
- 35:23Speaker 3: we want to avoid doing all oil on the fire. Here,
- 35:25Speaker 3: the fire is burning, it's not actually to start putting
- 35:28Speaker 3: the fire out. So aggressive policing and intelligence work is
- 35:33Speaker 3: really required. But we also have to stop providing the
- 35:36Speaker 3: fuel to the fire in terms of some of the
- 35:39Speaker 3: things that are being done in the foreign policy realm,
- 35:43Speaker 3: which just a completely counterintuitive to what is called for.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Right now, Okay, let's go to the foreign policy response
- 35:50Speaker 2: here and labors abandoning of Israel, because surely that is
- 35:54Speaker 2: linked to these domestic issues. So instead of strengthening it
- 35:58Speaker 2: support for Israel, Labor portrays Israel as the aggressor. And
- 36:03Speaker 2: even after Asad's Syria has fallen and has Blas been
- 36:07Speaker 2: defeated in Lebanon, so that Iran is finally on the
- 36:11Speaker 2: retreat in the Middle East. Penny Wong has mentioned Israel
- 36:15Speaker 2: and international law and the same breath as China and Russia.
- 36:21Speaker 3: Chris, you might know about Natan Sharansky, famous human rights
- 36:26Speaker 3: Soviet Union dissident be coined a phrase three d anti Semitism,
- 36:31Speaker 3: and the three d's of that concept are delegitimization, demonization
- 36:36Speaker 3: and double standards. And we talked last time about the
- 36:40Speaker 3: rectangle of rat bags of China, Iran, Russia and North Korea.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Well to sort of associate Israel at this point with
- 36:48Speaker 3: Russia particularly, who have been instrumental in fomenting the tyranny
- 36:54Speaker 3: and the destitution in Syria. They are the ones who
- 36:58Speaker 3: have provided facilitated Syria's chemical weapons attacks against its own population,
- 37:04Speaker 3: starting in twenty thirteen when they were using saren gas
- 37:08Speaker 3: and then moved to chlorine gas, which was infamous from
- 37:11Speaker 3: the First World War, and the barrel bombs that were
- 37:14Speaker 3: dropped on the population, slaughtering our wholesaling unit, discriminately women,
- 37:19Speaker 3: children alike, with a horrible form of death, and Russia
- 37:23Speaker 3: has been the facilitator of that. Russia is the one
- 37:26Speaker 3: in the Security Council at the UN her vetoed attempts
- 37:30Speaker 3: to stop this and bring Syria to heel on chemical weapons,
- 37:33Speaker 3: and right now Israel's war against these aggressors, it's war
- 37:37Speaker 3: of self defense and against annihilation, which as you say,
- 37:40Speaker 3: has now debilitated Iran, given us the opportunity to reset
- 37:46Speaker 3: in Syria and Lebanon and now conducting strikes to destroy
- 37:50Speaker 3: those chemical weapons stockpiles, and yet we hear from the
- 37:54Speaker 3: UN they want those strikes to stop. Will you want
- 37:57Speaker 3: those weapons to fall into the hands of other extreme groups?
- 38:02Speaker 3: And so to point to Israel and say you're in
- 38:05Speaker 3: the same league with these guys, it's just outrageous. They're
- 38:10Speaker 3: on our side and they're making it possible for there
- 38:13Speaker 3: to be a reset in the Middle East, taking on
- 38:16Speaker 3: the entire responsibility themselves in putting their lives on the
- 38:20Speaker 3: line to do that. Understand who your friends are and
- 38:23Speaker 3: whose side you are on right now. And the message
- 38:26Speaker 3: you were sending back here to Australia is that, yeah,
- 38:30Speaker 3: Israel and their supporters in the Jewish community are bad guys.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Deserve everything they get effectively. And you know these resolutions
- 38:40Speaker 3: that they support, which are full of lies and distortions
- 38:43Speaker 3: of propaganda. You know this is what fuels the extremists
- 38:47Speaker 3: back here. It has to stop, Chris.
- 38:50Speaker 2: It is a complex policy area, Mike, but in the
- 38:54Speaker 2: end it comes down.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Surely to a question of good versus evil.
- 39:00Speaker 3: And who your friends are. I mean, Israel's the country
- 39:04Speaker 3: that's been allied with us in the fight against terrorism
- 39:07Speaker 3: and kept to help keep our people safe and our soldiers.
- 39:10Speaker 3: You know, I'm speaking to a group of adf chaplains
- 39:13Speaker 3: tonight at a synagogue in Melbourne. You know, in the
- 39:16Speaker 3: context of everything that's gone on, you know, we have
- 39:20Speaker 3: been shouldered to shoulder with these people, but mainly they've
- 39:22Speaker 3: provided us with the support and wherewithal of the intelligence
- 39:26Speaker 3: that we didn't have. And so you know, I would say,
- 39:30Speaker 3: you know, when the lines are drawn like this, I
- 39:33Speaker 3: understand what the immediate needs are. Park your vanity projects
- 39:37Speaker 3: in the un right now. It's not what the Australian
- 39:39Speaker 3: people want to hear. They want to hear how you're
- 39:41Speaker 3: going to keep them safe, because, like Plaster Naimola said,
- 39:45Speaker 3: you know, when you don't speak up when they come
- 39:47Speaker 3: for others, and ultimately when they come for you and
- 39:49Speaker 3: no one's left, you know, this is what's going to
- 39:51Speaker 3: be happening here. It starts with burning synagogues, but it
- 39:54Speaker 3: doesn't end there. It'll be burning temples and churches next.
- 39:58Speaker 3: So yes, Australians concerned, like the Hindus and the Sikhs,
- 40:03Speaker 3: are now putting forward statements on this. Address domestic security
- 40:08Speaker 3: concerns about this and also address the things that astraands
- 40:11Speaker 3: want to hear from the government on cost of living
- 40:14Speaker 3: and those pressures that are making their daily lives so difficult.
- 40:18Speaker 3: That's what the government's got to focus on in this
- 40:20Speaker 3: run up to the election.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Mike Kelly, thanks for speaking out again and for joining
- 40:25Speaker 2: us here.
- 40:27Speaker 3: Nowhere is Chris, thank you.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Labor has to listen to this man.
- 40:33Speaker 2: He's one of their own, a former Labor minister and
- 40:36Speaker 2: a man who's worn our army uniform and served this
- 40:38Speaker 2: country in Iraq.
- 40:41Speaker 1: His warnings need to be heeded. Mike Kelly, there got
- 40:46Speaker 1: to take a break.
- 40:47Speaker 2: On the other side, we'll catch up with Liz Storer
- 40:49Speaker 2: and Joey Hildebrand filling in on the Wednesday Rangle. We'll
- 40:53Speaker 2: talk about this horrible rise of anti Semitism and how
- 40:56Speaker 2: Anthony Albanezi is mishandling it.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Let's get into the Wednesday Wrangle as usual.
- 41:05Speaker 2: We've got Liz Storer, host of the Late Debate, joining us,
- 41:08Speaker 2: but filling in for Justin Smith is joe hilde Round
- 41:11Speaker 2: of course Sky News contributor, great newspaper columnist and shop.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Back on the show.
- 41:20Speaker 2: Also also Drinking Buddy, Drinking Buddy of Albo, the Prime.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Minister everybody drinking, buddy, of everybody.
- 41:27Speaker 2: You know as a well you exactly just drinking, buddy.
- 41:31Speaker 2: You must be a little shattered to see how poorly
- 41:35Speaker 2: Albert EASi has handled all this, as with outline saying
- 41:39Speaker 2: and doing some of the right things in the last
- 41:41Speaker 2: few days, but sort of been dragged, kicking, screaming to
- 41:44Speaker 2: where he should have been fourteen months ago.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 14: Look, I think that's a pretty fair criticism. I think
- 41:50Speaker 14: Albertezi is someone obviously, as everyone who watches Skotte new
- 41:53Speaker 14: as well knows, did come from the left of the
- 41:56Speaker 14: Labor Party originally. He's now trying to sort of stake
- 41:59Speaker 14: out a position and in the center of politics and
- 42:02Speaker 14: towards the right of the Labor Party. And he's doing
- 42:05Speaker 14: that as Prime Minister, which is a learning game at
- 42:08Speaker 14: the best of times. And so I think he's sort
- 42:11Speaker 14: of sort of, you know, feeling his way around, trying
- 42:14Speaker 14: to stake out a position that he instinctively wants to
- 42:18Speaker 14: get to, but hasn't necessarily had the experience in being
- 42:23Speaker 14: able to know how to respond with the sort of clarity.
- 42:27Speaker 14: I suppose that someone like Chris Mins has by way
- 42:30Speaker 14: of contrast, but I think James Lyn.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Yeah, the two actions.
- 42:37Speaker 2: That's the nice way Joe of saying that. You know,
- 42:39Speaker 2: he's saying things that he doesn't really believe. He needs
- 42:41Speaker 2: to be authentic, he needs to have conviction. Let's have
- 42:44Speaker 2: a look at some of what he had to say
- 42:46Speaker 2: at the Jewish Museum today.
- 42:48Speaker 6: I own equivocally condemn the shameful ex of violent aimed
- 42:52Speaker 6: at the Jewish community. They are acts which are aimed
- 42:58Speaker 6: at promoting fear in the community, and that, by any definition,
- 43:04Speaker 6: is what terrorism is about.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Yeah, there's the PM today and there's no one could
- 43:10Speaker 2: disagree with what he's saying, but it's just the matter
- 43:12Speaker 2: he's been brought there and they're therefore the sort of
- 43:14Speaker 2: lack of conviction you read in what he's saying and doing.
- 43:17Speaker 15: It's just too obvious, Chris, to anyone who's been paying
- 43:20Speaker 15: attention since October the seven, and the way his entire
- 43:25Speaker 15: government has behaved since, it's very painfully obvious to anyone
- 43:31Speaker 15: who's in the know that this is simply lip service.
- 43:34Speaker 15: We saw it at the synagogue yesterday, which he took
- 43:36Speaker 15: almost five days to visit. It's not every day we
- 43:40Speaker 15: have a terrorist attack, alleged terrorist attack. I should say,
- 43:44Speaker 15: here on Australian's soil, it's not every day we have
- 43:48Speaker 15: someone's place of worship literally fire bond. So even his
- 43:53Speaker 15: is taking so long to show up at the site,
- 43:56Speaker 15: pay his respects and do due diligence as the prime
- 44:00Speaker 15: of this nation, I don't think there's anything he could
- 44:03Speaker 15: say or do in the short time he's got left
- 44:06Speaker 15: to the election to convince anyone that he means what
- 44:10Speaker 15: he's saying.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Now, Yeah, I feel you're right, and I feel he
- 44:16Speaker 2: gets a sense of that's what's why we're seeing him
- 44:18Speaker 2: just so uncertain on all this stuff.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Now.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I did mention at the top of the program too,
- 44:22Speaker 2: how there's not enough focus on the Muslim communities.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Not all Muslims.
- 44:26Speaker 2: We know that intrinsically, so many great contributors to this
- 44:30Speaker 2: society that we live in, our Muslims, But there are
- 44:33Speaker 2: extreme elements of the Muslim communities that are driving a
- 44:36Speaker 2: lot of the anti Israel and anti Jewish sentiment in
- 44:38Speaker 2: this country. We've seen that at protests, We've seen that
- 44:41Speaker 2: from hate preachers and the like, and I don't think
- 44:43Speaker 2: we've seen enough from Muslim community leaders decrying this behavior
- 44:48Speaker 2: and have a listen to the Home Affairs Minister Tony
- 44:51Speaker 2: Burke now where he's talking about not just anti Semitism
- 44:54Speaker 2: but Islamophobia.
- 44:57Speaker 9: Both of them had a spike, and therefore there was
- 44:59Speaker 9: a vote in the past parliament where the resolution dealt
- 45:02Speaker 9: with both forms of bigotry. All forms of bigotry are
- 45:05Speaker 9: unacceptable in Australia. Anti Semitism is unacceptable and is Lemophobia
- 45:09Speaker 9: is unacceptable.
- 45:12Speaker 1: I got to say, Joe.
- 45:13Speaker 2: With the notable and tragic and horrific exception of what
- 45:16Speaker 2: we saw in christ Church some years ago, in large parts,
- 45:20Speaker 2: certainly in this country, what people talk about is Islamophobia
- 45:23Speaker 2: just doesn't exist.
- 45:24Speaker 1: As Tony Abbott mentioned in his column this morning.
- 45:28Speaker 14: Yeah, look, obviously, you know, all forms of bigotry are
- 45:31Speaker 14: to be condemned, but there is something incredibly specific about
- 45:35Speaker 14: anti Semitism that just doesn't seem to apply to other
- 45:37Speaker 14: forms of racism. Again, it's accompanied by all sorts of
- 45:40Speaker 14: insane conspiracy theories about them, you know, Jews running the
- 45:44Speaker 14: world with secret organizations, things like blood level. I mean,
- 45:47Speaker 14: this is something that has been dogging Jewish people since,
- 45:51Speaker 14: you know, since quite frankly two millennia ago, and they
- 45:55Speaker 14: have had no safe homeland to retreat to throughout that
- 45:58Speaker 14: time until just after the greatest ever genocide ever perpetrated
- 46:03Speaker 14: throughout all of human history. And so I think there
- 46:06Speaker 14: is a special obligation we all have to make sure
- 46:10Speaker 14: that these sorts of things that have reared their ugly
- 46:12Speaker 14: heads constantly in pograms in Russia, throughout the genocide of
- 46:16Speaker 14: Eastern Europe, throughout the Jews being kicked out of countries
- 46:21Speaker 14: in the Middle Ages, the Tudor period, both Christians often
- 46:25Speaker 14: being the worst offenders. There is something incredibly specific and
- 46:30Speaker 14: sinister about anti Semitism that I don't think bears a
- 46:34Speaker 14: kind of casual comparison to other forms of discrimination and bias,
- 46:39Speaker 14: as bad as they might be.
- 46:42Speaker 2: All Right, there's too much bad news around. So I
- 46:44Speaker 2: want to get Liz to react to this reassuring news.
- 46:47Speaker 2: There is a leader of the free world, and here
- 46:49Speaker 2: he is in action.
- 46:51Speaker 16: Of course, makes a lot of money, but it's fare
- 46:55Speaker 16: thirty five bucks dear with them overdraft.
- 46:59Speaker 1: One of the things going on here.
- 47:00Speaker 16: They just turned off.
- 47:02Speaker 1: I'm going to go vote.
- 47:04Speaker 16: I lost the electricity here.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 47:08Speaker 16: One of the things we found is that you know,
- 47:11Speaker 16: and I also learned something from Donald Trump. He signed
- 47:14Speaker 16: checks for people for seventy four hundred bucks because we
- 47:16Speaker 16: passed the plan and I didn't.
- 47:20Speaker 17: Stupid Liddy, he lost the still it prompt, but he
- 47:29Speaker 17: kept talking.
- 47:31Speaker 15: Here, he says, while his mic works and the lights
- 47:33Speaker 15: are still on, I los my electricity here.
- 47:36Speaker 14: That's that's why I'm with electricity.
- 47:39Speaker 15: Oh my goodness, aren't you going to miss thing Biden blunders?
- 47:43Speaker 1: Though?
- 47:43Speaker 15: I mean, for almost four years we've been highly entertained
- 47:46Speaker 15: by watching the leader of the free world, the commander
- 47:49Speaker 15: in chief, although we know he hasn't actually been filling
- 47:52Speaker 15: that position at all. It's the bureaucrats, faceless, nameless bureaucrats
- 47:57Speaker 15: behind him. We've been having a field day run America
- 48:00Speaker 15: into the ground. But gosh, what are we going to
- 48:03Speaker 15: do when we don't have these sleepy Joe Biden clips.
- 48:06Speaker 15: Of course, we will have very entertaining Trump clips to
- 48:10Speaker 15: play instead. So we're in for another rip of four years.
- 48:13Speaker 15: But gosh, they're going to look mighty different.
- 48:17Speaker 1: We sure are.
- 48:18Speaker 2: I just got to point out quickly, I've got some
- 48:19Speaker 2: feedback after the last time we talked about Joe that
- 48:22Speaker 2: we're being agis that I'm picking on it because he's old.
- 48:24Speaker 2: No The point is that half the free world, up
- 48:28Speaker 2: until about three months ago, said he could serve another term.
- 48:31Speaker 2: There have been spin spoon feeding absolute rubbish and we
- 48:34Speaker 2: always said sorry, but.
- 48:35Speaker 1: The bloke's not up to that. There's plenty of people.
- 48:37Speaker 2: His age and older who have got plenty of marbles
- 48:40Speaker 2: left and as sharp as ever.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Sadly it's not the case with Joe Biden.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Just quickly, though, our National Film and Sound Archives are
- 48:49Speaker 2: taking in and preserving a very special television ads that
- 48:52Speaker 2: Liz won't remember, and I don't think Joe will either,
- 48:55Speaker 2: but I sure remember it.
- 48:56Speaker 17: Look, you can get a warm, get it talking, you
- 49:01Speaker 17: can get it work and a plow.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Matter of fact, I got it now.
- 49:06Speaker 17: A hard earned first needs a big cold beer, and
- 49:10Speaker 17: the best cold beer is Victoria Bitter.
- 49:18Speaker 2: That's it, the great Australian ad for beer, now forever preserved.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Notice in that ad that the women serve the beer
- 49:25Speaker 2: and the men drink it.
- 49:26Speaker 1: But things have changed a little bit. We are all
- 49:29Speaker 1: out of time.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Thanks to Johanna JS appreciated, appreciate your elier input all year.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Have a great Christmas and New Year. We'll catch up
- 49:38Speaker 1: with you next year. Because, as a matter of fact
- 49:41Speaker 2: I've got it now, I hand over to Peter Credlin
- 49:43Speaker 2: See tomorrow night
