- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: What's up, Browns fans?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back to another episode of The Dogs podcast.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Josh, all your hosts today, Memorial Day weekend in the books for this year.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: I hope everybody out there enjoyed the holiday.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: I know here it rained all weekend long, so that ruined a lot of plans for a lot of people, including us, you know, we were going to take the boat out on the river.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: that kind of stuff.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll just have to wait for another day, but I hope your weekends went very well.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: And before we get into the show day in the true spirit of the Memorial Day holiday, I want to shout out all the service men and women out there and shout out especially to anyone and everyone who's ever lost a loved one in service sincerely.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: I have no shame admitting.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: I am not cut out for the military.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: Never was, so I deeply appreciate everyone who makes that sacrifice to serve the country to protect my freedoms, and especially those who have made that ultimate sacrifice.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: So that me and my family, we can all live safely, happily, and free.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: God bless you all, brave men and women out there, and I mean that 100%.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get into the show.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Not a great night for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: Holy crap, a 37 point loss at home, not just a loss.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: I freaking embarrassing below out.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: at home to the New York Knicks, Cavs gets swept in four in the Eastern Conference Finals.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's very rare, I think, in pro sports to see the best two teams in a conference, make it to the semifinal round and one side not even come close to looking like they should be there, but
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: that's what you got with the cab.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I think there's going to be some big moves, some changes coming for this team.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: I want to know what you guys think though because there's a lot of you that are way more dialed into the the Cavaliers and everything than I am.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: So what do you guys think would be the best route for the cabs moving forward to get
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: where they want to be to the NBA finals next season because I've seen all kinds of suggestions being thrown around obviously by the time this episode comes out maybe Kenny Atkinson the head coaches fired already maybe not if he's not shouldy be if he was shouldy of then you guys just let me know what you think
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: Do they bring back James Harden?
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do they trade Evan Moblin and get Janis and Tenecupo in here?
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Do they go after LeBron James for one final ride?
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: What should the calves do?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen people say they need to trade Evan or Donovan Mitchell.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, man, I just, I don't know.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's a whole lot of suggestions out there, but I want to hear what you guys think about the calves and how this season ended in a very tumultuous series against the next.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: that season is over and we are fully in the the off season mode here for your Cleveland Brown so let's talk about the Brown is OTA's week number two starting here today I keep I got to keep reminding myself today is Tuesday it's Tuesday it's not Monday we had the holiday we it always throws me off I'm sure there's you guys off to
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, it's today tomorrow, Thursday would be OTA session two and the next Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, OTA session three in the following week after that is your mandatory mini camp when all the veterans have to report so that's when you'll get Denzel Ward miles gear and all those guys who are not there right now will be there in two weeks and after that mini camp is over.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: it's summer break.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: So we are getting through the spring program, the offseason sessions.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then we're going to take a break and then the team will be back at the end of July for training camp.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: So we did a discord show over the weekend and mandated Blake ever takes some heat for being very super negative on that episode.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: Now,
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to disagree with you guys.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he was, but I want to remind you all that Blake did just have a baby.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: So he's got a constantly screaming newborn at home right now.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: She is in a very screaming phase, which I sympathize with.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: I was in that same situation.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: How do you go right now?
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe a little less, but it was a rough stretch.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: I remember that vividly, although I was really hoping I would black it out because I did not want to remember that.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: He's just, you know, he's just not a good mood by default.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Secondly, anybody who's ever watched the show like last season during the brown season knows that Blake did not want to fire Kevin's to fancy.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I think a lot of the bitterness that you guys probably felt coming from him during that episode the other day.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's where it comes from.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: He was the only one on the show who wanted to keep Kevin and he was upset mad when they fired him.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: So he's obviously still bitter about that.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: his version of optimism is a little different than most because I'm assuming most of you guys wanted to move on from Kevin too and you're excited about the new coaching staff and a new offensive mind with Todd Monk and coming in all that kind of stuff Blake's just not as optimistic but that does stem from him not really believing things will be that much better because he's still preferred the last coach to the one that we have now.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I just mentioned the Cavaliers Laws Blake has been very better about the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen him get upset about Brown's Laws in the past, but for some reason men, the Cavs just hit him harder.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe it's because the expectations are higher from the Cleveland Cavaliers.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: and when they fall short of those expectations, it just, it does hit harder with the browns, the AFC championship is not the expectation.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: The Super Bowl is not the, the hope and expectation for the team heading into the season, it's just not, let's just be real about it.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: For the calves, that's what it was.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: So when they fall short and they, they don't come close to really achieving that, based on the way they're playing, play gets very, very upset about the Cavaliers.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll just leave it at that.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: Today, let's just focus in on this new coaching staff and the reasons why as Browns fans, there is reason to be optimistic.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: There are reasons to be excited about this Browns team moving in to the 2016.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I really just want to go through a lot of these things, a lot of these moves that we've made and some projections for the team.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: And just talk about that to maybe reinvigorate a little bit more hope than what we presented to you guys the other day over the weekend on that episode.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: Before I dive into my notes here for the day, I want to remind you guys go to join the dogs.com.

- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: But here we go.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: Let's get into the notes.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: So if you watched our episodes last week with Derek Brown from Fancy Pros by the way shout out Derek Brown.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for coming on and lending your outside perspective on this Cleveland Brown's team.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: He told us he told you guys Brown's fans should be excited.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: Should be feeling really good right now about the direction of our football team.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought that was really insightful because he's not a Browns fan.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: He's not deep into the fan base and the team, the way we are.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: He focuses on the NFL as a whole.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: So for him to look at the entirety of the NFL, every team, every division, both conferences, all that kind of stuff and to hone in right specifically to the Brown to say, you guys should be feeling really good about the moves your team has made in the direction they're heading.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was very encouraging.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_00]: Now, a source with NFL connections did message me directly on X told me that the Browns made the right choice in hiring Todd Monk and he said multiple coaches and front office people have said have told him that Todd Monk is an exceptional coach and it's about time he got his chance to lead the team.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: I thought that was great insight as well again unprompted.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't ask for that.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: showed up in my inbox, so I thought that was interesting, and I want to talk about so angel ortees from the typical Browns fan podcast posted some stats and information about the rushing attack in Baltimore under Todd Munkin.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now, obviously take these numbers and everything with a grain of salt, I fully, I'm fully aware that the Baltimore Ravens had Lamar Jackson and Derek Henry, two of the best players in the entire league, just complete outliers at their positions.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty easy to create a dynamic rushing attack around these two players, but I just wanted to make sure you guys understand, I get that.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're looking at the three years,
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: They, they're rushing attack in 2023, 2006, 161 total yards, 2024, 3000, 189 yards.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: And 2025 this past season, 200 or 2006, 262 yards, it was 4.9, 5.8 and 5.3 yards per carry.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: Average for the entire,
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: rushing attack now that also includes there are other running backs which was like yacht and Mitchell and Justice Hill and whoever else they had running the ball intermittently but primarily was Derek Henry and Lamar Jackson now.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I know that's the Baltimore Ravens, but there is very good reason to anticipate that the Browns' rushing game is going to be taking a significant jump forward this season with Todd Munkin and the coaching staff that he has brought over.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: So, I posted a video over, I've talked about this a lot too.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: You guys should probably, by now, know the stats by heart.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: You hear me say it all the time.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: Quinschon, Judd, can's last year, okay?
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's a rookie running back who missed all of training camp pre-season.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: Nist week one didn't get on the field until week two, because he had the off-field legal crap going on and all that.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: So, by the time he gets on the field, week two, he's really just getting up to speed.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: We've got the worst offensive line in the league.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: We're creating no push up front in the trenches.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: Quinceon Judkins for the year, averaged 1.4 yards before contact per attempt.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: Out of 49, I'm doing this all the time.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: I had 49 qualifying running backs.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_00]: He was 49th dead last in the entire NFL.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: in yards before contact per attempt.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: What does that mean?
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: Again, that means, on average, 1.4 yards was all Quinschon Judkins had to work with before he was getting his first hit.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: Before the first defender was making contact with him.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: 1.4 yards, that's terrible.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: He still had 890 rushing yards or something in that ballpark for the season.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: That means he was ripping off break in tackles and gaining massive yards after contact.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I believe he was 10th overall in the entire NFL in total yards after contact despite being hit.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: at the, having the lowest yards before contact, per attempt in the entire league, just crazy numbers like that tell me, there is massive upside with Quinceon Judkins.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you can create, if we can get to a point where his yards before contact per attempt is like two or two point five even, oh my goodness, imagine what he could be doing.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: on the ground for the Cleveland Browns, and I don't have the stat, I really don't even know how to find it.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: So if anybody out there can help me, if you guys know how to search this or how to find this stat, or if I just, maybe it's somewhere obvious that I've just missed, how many yards to quench on Juddkins' forfeit due to holding penalties last year.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to know because I know, like, we're all talking to my head.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: I remember the Vikings game in London.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: He had a monster, I think it was like 50 something you're run for, I think it was for a touchdown.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Called back due to a holding, which again on the replay, it's like, really you guys called that, but you don't call half the other.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you don't call anything against Miles Garrett for holding, but this don't even get me started on that.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, let me know if there's a way to measure that because I haven't found it, but it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but he lost a lot of yards.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: He would've been well over a thousand yards last year, but hadn't been for holding penalties, calling stuff back.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: QuinshawnJudkins aside, guys.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's untapped potential and unknown upside still with Dylan Samson.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: This is the SEC offensive player the year in 2024.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: In the SEC, he was dominating great defenses as a running pack in SEC like we get this guy in the fourth round.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: We don't freaking know what this guy can really do.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: yet in the NFL Kevin Stephansky and that coaching staff offensive staff last year they just they didn't know how to use him in any sort of consistent manner doesn't mean that Todd Munkin will.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: But until Munkin shows that he doesn't know how to use a guy I'm not going to say he can't.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be optimistic about the usage again.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give the benefit of the doubt of this new coaching staff.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, show me I will believe in you
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: which is where I'm at with Deshawn Watts.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in you until you gave me a reason not to.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Now I don't.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: Kevin's fancier.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in you until you gave me a reason not to.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: Then I didn't.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: Todd Munkin, I believe in you.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: Don't give me a reason not to, man.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, let's do this.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: We've got things lining up our way.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: The O-Line.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: On paper.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: Much improved.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you cannot gripe about what they did on paper at least with the offensive line.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I guess I got to throw this out there as a little caveat.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, guys, understand, I realize, okay, I don't want to have to say this over and over.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: I understand.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't hit pad yet.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't hit training camp.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't had preseason.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't played any sort of real football action.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: I get that.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know everything I'm talking about is a projection based on paper moves.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: I get that.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where this is all coming from.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: If we get new information when training camp starts that, hey, this offensive line isn't really looking all that great.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: I will change my opinion, but at the moment, we are younger.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: We have gotten more youth in here.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: We've added some good talent.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: We added the ninth overall pick.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: The first overall offensive line been taken in the entire draft is now our new left tackle.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: There's optimism there, George Warhop, coaching this line, okay?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_00]: This is a long time, great offensive line coach in the NFL.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_00]: Highly regarded, warped with Todd Munkin and Baltimore, worked together to establish that awesome run game that I mentioned earlier from A.J.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_00]: Ortiz and the Stassah he posted.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's reason to be optimistic.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: And...
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: just to kind of put a nice little lid here on this running game conversation.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: The Baltimore Ravens Run Game Coordinator last year is now our offensive coordinator.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: So if you connect the dots, we get Todd Monk in his head coach.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: He brings George Warhop, the offensive line coach.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_00]: He brings Travis Switzer, the Run Game Coordinator.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: All these guys come to Cleveland.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_00]: There will be a heavy emphasis on the run game in 2026.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm excited for it.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_00]: And you guys should be too.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I know, we'll talk about obviously, obviously we're going to talk about quarterbacks here.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's some point for doing projections for the season and things that would be optimistic and hopeful about.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I've seen people asking me on social media and making these posts and comments and stuff about, well, you know, I don't see all the hype videos about Shador Sanders and all this stuff.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to that.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: Why there's these deep down field passing highlight videos for Deshawn Watson and we haven't really seen any for Shador.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'll get to that.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: But part of the other reason why you're not seeing a ton of these passing highlight clips.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: One, this is OTA's.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're an installation phase.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's a brand new offense.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: whole new offensive system.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: All new coaches, a lot of new players, they are learning.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: This is teaching.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_00]: This is installation.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: They are bringing in the playbook, bringing in the concept, the verbiage, everything about this offense, and they're getting everybody up to speed.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: Part of that goes to what I just went through here.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's a heavy emphasis.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Based on, I think was that Jackson, maybe from the athletic was talking about it.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: So just understand that when you're seeing these clips of the passing things and all that kind of stuff, that's fine, those are great.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: And it's good to see the receivers make them some plays and stuff, but really what they're doing right now is getting the run game concepts.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: You're trying to teach your offensive line that the blocking, whatever, the system.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: You're just trying to get everybody up to speed
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jell on this run game, the passing game will come.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, big emphasis on the run game, I think we're gonna get back to Cleveland Brown's football in the AFC North running the ball.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: I really think that's what's gonna happen this year, guys.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a lot to be made about the quarterback situation, but I do think they're planning on riding heavily on the running game.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm excited for that, okay?
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, you guys should be too.

- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Again, this is paper, it's got to translate on to the field, but man of these guys ever take in some big steps toward establishing that powerful run game.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Remember, another stat that I post over the week in that just people are social media people.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: hilarious.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, Shidorah Sanders was pressured on 50.4% of his drop-backs during the seven game stretch as a starter.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: That was the third highest rate in the NFL in that spin.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: There was no run game, if you guys remember, Duri Shidorah's games as a starter.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: We had no run game all season as it was anyhow, but Quinn shone only played a couple of games and then he was out.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: So the run game was really bad.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: Shidorah Sanders was leading Russia and a lot of the games that he played.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: So if you got no run game, that means the defense just loads the box.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: They pin their ears back and they come after you with full force, especially when you're a rookie quarterback.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's a no-brainer.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: The way defenses approach the Browns at the end of the season last year.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: People were like, oh, it should of course the end or sucked because he couldn't handle the, like,
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, he handled the pressure pretty decently to be honest, and I do have the stats to support that.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: But overall, that's what we would do.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's what any defensive coordinator would do.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: You see you're going up against a rookie quarterback in the upcoming game this week.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, okay, let's make him beat us, because he's a rookie.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's just whatever football's not hard guys.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: It's really not.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's not rocket science.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: But now what can this offense look like when a defense opposing defenses cannot just load the box and solely focus on pressuring the quarterback?
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: We added some serious players at wider
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's something we haven't had in ever.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: When's the last time we had two first round talent wide receivers, especially in the same draft?
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, just we don't take receivers in the first round.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Anyhow, the last one was a braille in Edwards.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm sorry.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: The last one was Corey Coleman before that braille in Edwards.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_00]: Before that,
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know because it was before the expansion.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: So, why does he ever have the emphasis for the Browns in the draft?
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: These two players, Derek Brown talked about it too.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: I've talked about it.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody probably understands this, but I'll say it again.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: They compliment each other so well, so nicely.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: and they will open things up for each other and not only that but they will open things up for the other guys on this team.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: Jerry Judy's still here and while he is not my favorite player by any stretch of the imagination.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: In a complimentary wide receiver role, I think he can be good.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: The only my only word with Jerry Judy is the attitude.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: Because
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: We saw in 2024, before James Winston took over as the starter, games where, and I specifically remembered the Bangle's game, the one in which Deshawn Watson towards Achilles.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: Jerry Judy was not, I don't think he had a target until the fourth quarter.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_00]: He was not handling it well, he was mad, he was upset, visibly.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: On the sideline, on the field, yelling at the quarterback, I think DTR was the first core, he was the QB2 that week.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't, I mean, it was like Jerry Judy was a head case.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then he finally, I remember this so vividly.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: He finally got his first target in the fourth quarter.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was from James, he had him right in the numbers on the chest and he dropped it.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: And because I was on social media posting, I'm like Jerry Judy's bitch in the moon and all game about not getting a target, first target he sees he drops Jerry Judy Jerry freaking Judy.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, as long as he's not operating as our defacto, wide receiver one or even two,
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if his attitude will allow him to play a complimentary role as my only worry with Jerry Judy, but skill set wise and his ability or inability to catch a ball consistently.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think he'll be much better when he's not the focus of the offense or the focus of the defense for that matter.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: Casey Boston, they're going to open things up for Isaiah Bond.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've been seeing the things out of OTAs and the reports.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm pretty sure that
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: Isaiah Bonne has been trying to, or the cozy staff has been working him a lot in the intermediate area of the field trying to work on those short area routes and everything like that because he's a great on the outside, he's a burner, he can get downfield, he can be a great field stretcher for you at the wide receiver position, but if he can evolve into more than just that, as a UDFA, which of course was a priority, he would have definitely got
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: Isaiah Bond would have 100% been drafted probably by the end around three at the latest.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: Had he not had his off-field legal crap going on as well.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: So the Brown took advantage of that whole situation got him as a UDFA.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that there's, there's ability there.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: There's talent there.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: Now whether or not this coaching staff can pull it out of him and develop him properly, I know the last coaching staff could not develop anybody on offense, period, let alone
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: but who else benefits from adding these first round caliber, wider severs?
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: Harold, freaking fan and guys.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh, the team's leading receiver last year.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Harold fan and junior is such an interesting guy to talk about because if you remember, he was, he was an afterthought last year in the Titan class because you had your Tyler Warren, your coast and lovelin.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was, it was a,
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: a big name at the top type of tight-end class in 2025.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: And the other thing with Harold Fannon, you know, he came out of the small school.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: He came out of the Mac bowling green.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: Wasn't the most athletic, didn't test all that well.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of question marks around him.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't really have the size, like Derek Brown talked about last week too.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: Is this guy going to be like a tweener type type item we haven't really seen these guys pan out in the NFL before we've had several of these type of players, at least stylistically the body type with the limited athleticism and all that come out in recent years and they just haven't amounted to much, but I was I was way more excited about Harold fan and coming out of college than maybe some other people were just because of what he did.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: And it wasn't the fact that he just dominated Mac talent to lead the nation in receiving.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: It was the fact that anytime he played a top tier team, a ranked team, anything like that, a bowl game, he dominated it.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not like he had a Jeremiah smithery on any sort of wide receiver talent at bowling green to take the pressure off him.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: He was the guy.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: He was the only guy.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: and team still couldn't stop him and the rinse and repeat for the browns.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_00]: He was the only guy in the receiving game and defense is still couldn't stop him.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_00]: So now when you add in other people to focus on and worry about and scheme for in the passing game, I don't know.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I know there's a lot
- 29:42[SPEAKER_00]: Hope out there for you know like KC could be a thousand yard receiver maybe or you know Denzel could leave this team and touchdowns.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_00]: And it very well could happen.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's much easier for these wider severs to lead their teams in receiving.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: But I still wouldn't be surprised if Harrell fans and Juniors, the one taking advantage of all these additions and improvements to the offense and still somehow finds a way to lead this team in receiving.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's done it before as a rookie, as the only option.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I just blows my mind what Harrell fans was able to do last year if you guys can't tell.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just a little impressed with this young man out of Canton, Ohio, by the way, just up the road here from us Hall of Fame City here in Ohio, but the offense overall, I guess I'll just put a bow on my offensive discussion here with you guys.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_00]: lot of reason to be optimistic.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: We've changed everything.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_00]: We've changed the offensive system, the coaching staff who's leading the offense, who's running things.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_00]: We've changed the offensive line.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: We've done everything we can possibly do to improve that line.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: We brought in,
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: By all counts, one of the greatest offensive line coaches, the run game coordinator, these guys who established a proven successful running attack at another organization on another franchise in the last three seasons.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's all there.
- 31:10[SPEAKER_00]: It is all there for the taking for the Browns.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm excited about it.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: I really am.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: And again,
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: The running game, the improvements to the O-Line, all this stuff is really just going, all of it helps the passing game.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_00]: It helps open things up, it helps give the quarterback a little more time.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to talk about the defense here too.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know what, I'm going to talk about the defense.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: I want to flip over there.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'll save my quarterback conversation for you guys, until the end, because
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: Again, if you're here to listen about the quarterback stuff stick around, I'll get to it.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: If you are tired of hearing about the court conversation in Cleveland, then let me talk about the defense.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_00]: And then you can just skip through the rest or turn me off after I'm done with that.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, defense, defense.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously this is going to be probably a little quicker conversation because we already have a top tier defense in Cleveland.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: We've had it for the last three years since Jim Schwartz came in 2023.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_00]: 2024 is a little bit down the whole team just sucked.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks a lot, Kevin.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: And the whole team just sucked again last year.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: But the defense made a bounce back in 2025 and we kept a lot of the same pieces.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_00]: The defensive line.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was Mason Graham was talking about this in one of his press conferences.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Routenberg was the defensive passing game coordinator last year for the Atlanta Falcons.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: He comes over this year and is now the Browns defensive coordinator in what Mason Graham was talking about.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_00]: Roombur has not changed anything with the defensive front.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: The way the defensive line is going to place dramatically, the way they're going to attack, the offensive line and the quarterback.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: None of that has changed.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: He is keeping that in place.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: So what we have seen with the Browns up front, the defensive line, the front seven, all that kind of stuff to last three years that we've enjoyed watching, we've been excited about with the Browns.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's staying in place.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's not getting changed.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: So Mike Roombur is keeping all of that there.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: You still got.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: miles, Garrett, the reigning defensive player of the year, he'll probably lead the league in sex again.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: He'll probably be the depoy again, or at least in the conversation, depending on what some other players do this season.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: But we've got the best defensive player in the league on our team.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: right now.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, barring some some unforeseen trade here over the summer.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: Miles Garrett, we have reason to be excited for sure about this defense despite the changes.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: And one of the things that I put in my notes here that I really wanted to highlight with Mike Root and Berg be in the new defensive coordinator.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_00]: We went out and we signed a guy that me, Kenny Mac, super high on Quincy Williams, the linebacker who played for the Jets the last couple of years.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: This is...
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: If we weren't able to bring back Devon Bush, Quincy Williams was the guy we wanted the Browns to go after.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: And he is such a good relationship with Mike Routenberg before the Browns even signed Quincy Williams.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Routenberg was talking about the importance of building relationships with players and having this connection with guys in one of the players that he specifically mentioned.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_00]: In that conversation was Quincy Williams from their time together in New York, because that's when Root and Berg was with the jets and he was coaching the linebackers.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: He was Quincy Williams position coach there, so we get this new defensive coordinator who has had success coaching the linebacker units for other teams.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: and has had success coaching and coordinating defensive passing game attacks.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm looking for a boost to our linebackers and to our secondary this season.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like I already mentioned, they're keeping the defensive front the same.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: So if you believe our defensive front was the strength of the defense last year, and it's staying the same, but now we're anticipating improvements to the linebackers and secondary, which we're already really good last year.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: There's reason to believe this defense will be even better.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying that it's definitively going to be.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: There's always, when you lose a coach like Jim Schwartz who had the defense humming on all cylinders, a lot of the time, of course, there were many instances where the defense caved, faltered, gave up big plays, couldn't stop a nosebleed against the Titans, couldn't hold Carson once, and the Minnesota Vikings for just one drive.
- 35:31[SPEAKER_00]: There were times where you watched the Browns defense and thought maybe we could get better.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: and maybe the migrant bird change will bring that about.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: We will see how it goes, but we got, not only do we have the raining deepway, we got the raining de-roy, the defensive rookie of the year Carson Swesinger come back for year two already playing at a probal level.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: This two is gonna be a freakin' all pro.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: unbelievable talent at linebacker.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: Now you add Quincy Williams with them and it sucks losing Jeremiah, who's to core Amoa again.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think he ever plays football again.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: But man, Quincy Williams is not a talent to underestimate.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: I am expecting big things.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_00]: Not gonna lie.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_00]: I like it will be a let down.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: and I'll let it be known.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: It will be a let down.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: If Quincy Williams is not fantastic on this Brown's defense with Carson's Wes and your plane behind that defensive line, under Mike Root and Berg, who they have such a great relationship, those two.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Sticking with defense here guys, Grant Delpit.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: What are the best safeties in the NFL?
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: Get Denzel Ward!
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: One of them elite.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's a Denzel Ward is still elite cornerbacks in the NFL.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: And again, why doesn't Denzel Ward get talked about a lot?
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it doesn't have a whole lot of picks.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_00]: Teams don't throw it him very often.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: His opportunity to come away with interceptions, there's not much there for Denzel Ward because nobody throws it him very often.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: He is that good.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: We bring back all these guys, Tyson Campbell, the other corner.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: So last year, you guys remember, we traded Greg Newsome,
- 37:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I forget what the whole trade package was now, but either way the Newsom goes to the Jaguars Tyson Campbell comes back to the Browns and he's got a couple years left on the deal and everything and what an impressive campaign over the course of his time in Cleveland for Tyson Campbell.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't really know none of us really knew what to expect when we traded for him, but man was he ever a big upgrade over Greg Newsom.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: He really was.
- 37:41[SPEAKER_00]: And back to Mason Graham, press conference confirmed last year over the back part of the season.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: He was playing with a broken rib, said he cracked it during the 49ers game and then it was fully broken.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: I believe in the Titans game.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: Never missed a game played all 17.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: So there was, you know, I, I complained about the ineffectiveness of Mason Graham at times, like it just wasn't what I was anticipating for being a top-five pick.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now obviously it's defensive tackle position, that's one of the harder ones to transition to in the NFL, takes a little more time for guys.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't know he was playing with a broken rip.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you guys knew that either, I don't know how widely known that knowledge was, but...
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: Year two, for Mason Graham, could be pretty damn good.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Especially now, he's got the riv healed up.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_00]: He's healthy, he's got the more experience.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, 17 game starter is a rookie.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: Again, expecting big things, out of Mason Graham, just like I am like Quincy Williams, if it doesn't happen, I will let that dissatisfaction be known because I expect greatness from Mason Graham.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: You're a top five pick, you're healthy now, you showed your flashes as a rookie,
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: year two, it's time to bring it on, baby, time to bring it on.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: And let's not forget, we're kind of, this isn't really defense anymore, but, well, I mean, okay, I go, there's a couple more notes.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't even have these written down.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: I want to talk about the defense.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: Because I mentioned the secondary, the improvements under Rootenberg, who excelled under Mike Rootenberg so much last year in Atlanta?
- 39:11[SPEAKER_00]: rookie, safety, Xavier Watts, the guy that we, me and Kenny Mack, man.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes I wish the Brown just listening to me and Kenny, me and Kenny got, I don't want to do my own work.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: We wanted Xavier Watts so bad and when he was available there at the end of the third round, I was like, take Xavier Watts or you kid, like this is,
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: You run the car to the podium at this point, and they took Dylan Gabriel, oh my gosh, I'm just so tired of making those kind of moves.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: Xavier Watts had a rookie or defensive rookie of the year campaign.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the running fort under Mike Rutenberg last year in Atlanta.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: and Routenburg has talked about having an Xavier watch last year and how that really helped their defense so much having that caliber safety and what the Browns do this year?
- 39:53[SPEAKER_00]: They'd go and get a first round caliber talent at safety, a manual McNeil Warren.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be fun, guys.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's going to be fun.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: This is a ball hawk in turn over creating player that Mike Routenberg now gets to work with and develop in the second.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_00]: Again, I got high expectations for EMW.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: Very high, because he was, again, a first round projected player that we got at 58.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to play a very vital role at the safety position.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: Ronnie Hickman for all intents and purposes will be back.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_00]: And he had a really good campaign last year.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you guys realized, but Ronnie Hickman had a solid season.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was his first full season starting at safety free safety for the Browns last year.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_00]: Very good year for him.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: So the defense should still be really, really good.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_00]: really should be.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: Offense should be improved.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_00]: And before I talk about quarterbacks, I cannot talk about reasons to be excited for the Browns without mentioning Andre Schmidt, our kicker.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: We think we found our kicker.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm not going to sit here and proclaim it.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: But we thought we found our kicker with Dustin Hopkins.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: And that didn't pan out.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: One good year from Oscar Austin, geez, Andre Schmidt's, sorry, but I keep messing up your name.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: Andre Schmidt had a great season now.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: Consistency is the name of the game, baby.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: You got to come back and you got to show that you can repeat that again before I start crowning anybody anything.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I was guilty as charged after the first game against the Bengals when Andre Schmidt missed two kicks, two field goals I think it was, and we lost by a point, and I said, cut him.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: I was on the podcast here, I said, cut him, get rid of him.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we didn't know who Andre Schmidt was.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: He was a UDFA or whatever.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_00]: We signed him, I think he was a rookie.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember now either way.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, just cut him.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: Find another kicker.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we can't be missing kicks and losing to, you know, the AFC North Division rival bangles in week one by a freaking point.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's unacceptable.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: Unacceptable.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_00]: He bounced the frick back, holy crap, Andre Schmidt.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let me pull up his numbers.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so I was wrong.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_00]: Week one, it was a missed field goal and a missed extra point for Andre Schmidt and we lost by one point to the Bengals.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: After that, I mean, for the season, that was the only extra point Andre Schmidt missed the entire season, week one.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: Never missed an extra point after that.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: And as far as field goals go,
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: He only missed two more field goals, the rest of the year after that miss in week one to get to the bank.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not, I have no shame.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_00]: I was sitting here and I'm Andre Schmidt.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: I was wrong when I said to just cut you after week one.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was in my feelings.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: I was in my emotions after that loss to the bankals.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: He threw me wrong.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: Bounce back in a big way.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm very excited that we at least feel like we have a reliable kicker who is proven that he can do it.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: I need to prove that he can do it for multiple years because I'm not going to get burned like I did with Dustin Hopkins and all that, but man, having that confidence in your kicker is huge.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: It really is, because
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, whenever a team comes out in the beginning of the game, and this will happen, guys, okay?
- 43:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's the NFL.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to happen.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_00]: The Browns are going to go on defense for the first drive of a game this year, and the opposing team is going to go right down the field, punches in the mouth, and score touchdown.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_00]: Kick the extra point, it's going to be seven nothing.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_00]: And you want to have the confidence that when you run your script and you go back down the field and you attack on offense and say you go down and you put in six.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: You get in the end zone and it's like, hey, now let's tie this thing up.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: Let's even the score.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to go out there thinking, gosh, I hope this guy doesn't miss this.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_00]: And then it's seven to six.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now we got to try to go for two at some point.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Or if you get in a feelable range, it's like, okay, let's cut this to seven to three and call it a win on this first drive.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: You want the confidence that he can punch it through and make that happen.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: So, hats off to Andre Schmidt.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't get talked about very much in the media or on this podcast, or anything, because he's the kicker.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, let's just be honest, that's what it is.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's not the sexy position to talk about, but it is super important.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: Kicker is so important.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: And for right now, it feels like we've got a good one with Andre Schmidt.

- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: And with the time I got remaining here, let's talk about the quarterback situation in Cleveland.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_00]: Here's what I want to say about Shador Sanders right off the rip and I need to make like a short video about this and put it off for anybody because I think this is important to be said.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_00]: with Shidorah Sanders.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_00]: And this is nothing to do with him as a player.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing, absolutely nothing.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: When you're talking about Shidorah Sanders and this speaks specifically to social media, you have, and there's gonna be people in the comments here on this video.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: We've got Shidorah Sanders fans, and we've got Shidorah Sanders haters, okay?
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: to complete opposite ends of the spectrum.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: And here's the problem that you run into with that, with the Shador fans, you can't say anything critical.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: About Shador, or you're like a racist more on that doesn't know anything about football.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's just how you get attacked.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: and for the Shador haters who I think are even worse, you can't say anything positive about Shador Sanders or you're just a glazing fan boy.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just cut the crap, okay?
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: To the people who keep asking me online, why do I post stuff about Shador Sanders?
- 47:32[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, he's the Browns quarterback.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is a Browns podcast.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_00]: I am a Browns fan.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_00]: Quit acting like I'm post this stuff about the Broncos quarterback or something like that.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: This is my team, okay?
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: Shador Sanders plays quarterback for my Cleveland Browns.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: And he is the last guy to start games for us at quarterback.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, and by the way, he's currently on a two game winning streak.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_00]: both of those games against divisional opponents.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: Something that's never really been done before.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: Okay?
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: So again, to both extremes on the spectrum out there, just cut the crap.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: What should door Sanders perfect last year?
- 48:05[SPEAKER_00]: Hell no, guys.
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: Come on.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: He made some really bad decisions.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: He missed some throws.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: Miss read the defense at times.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: Took some unnecessary sacks.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't perfect.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Shoulder Sanders horrible?
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: Hell no, he made some big time throws, led the offense with confidence, made plays with his legs, picked up first downs.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: There were definitely flashes to be excited about.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, I mean, Shoulder Sanders was the first Brown's quarterback to win his first start in 30 years.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: Nineteen ninety five guys was the last time it happened.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: The last time a Browns quarterback won their first career start in Cleveland Bill Belechek was the head coach and the quarterback Eric Zayir
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure there's people that remember that, okay?
- 48:59[SPEAKER_00]: I was six years older the time, I don't.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: But that is how long ago we are talking about this happening, which the doorstanders made that start against the Raiders.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: He broke a 17 game losing streak by Brown's quarterbacks in that situation.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: And he was on the road.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: It was the first road game.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: You guys remember this?
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: Raiders.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_00]: This past season was the first road game the Browns of one since week two, 2024.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: That it was pathetic.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_00]: What the Browns were doing the last two years.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: But Shador Sanders came in here and actually gave us something to be excited about.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: Again, was he perfect?
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: No, I've never said that.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_00]: Ever.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: So don't act like I'm saying he's flawless.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: He's not.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_00]: Do I have a reason to expect him to improve from year one to year two?
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, most guys do, okay?
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: Most guys do.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_00]: And people will grape about the interceptions that he threw.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: And yes, they sucked.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: Some of them were really, really bad, but that's also where like context matters in these conversations.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_00]: One, he was a rookie, okay?
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: What actual NFL fan genuinely believes that a rookie quarterback is not going to throw
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: Come on, be realistic, too.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: How many of those picks that he threw were tipped passes or deflected by his own receivers?
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: I can think of two for sure, maybe even three.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: I was just watching the interception he threw in the Steelers game.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_00]: I saw a clip of this on X and the film.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: He threw it across the field again, terrible decision never should have made that throw.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_00]: Something he needs to learn from.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: But it's also true that
- 50:44[SPEAKER_00]: He had Jerry Judy, his de facto wide receiver one, in a one-on-one situation on the far side of the field, and Jerry Judy called for the ball.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: And he did have a contested catch opportunity in that situation that defensive back simply boxed Judy out and made the interception because Jerry Judy soft and doesn't fight for anything with any sort of physicality.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I'm not making excuses for shit or Sanders.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_00]: He, again, never sure to throw netball in that situation, but it also never should have been picked.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: Both things can be true.
- 51:16[SPEAKER_00]: It should have been knocked down in complete.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm telling you guys, right now,
- 51:21[SPEAKER_00]: You throw a ball like that to densel Boston in a 101 situation and becomes a jump ball.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_00]: I promise you, it's not getting intercepted.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: It might not get caught, but it's not going to be picked.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: It will go incomplete.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: There's just all kinds of, and then I think we just need to reiterate what time to throw means.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: So again, I don't have, I'm going to do an episode on the breakdown for this stuff, but just pulling stats off top of my head.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of people out there don't, and I'm not trying to be mean to anybody.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's totally understandable.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: If you don't understand what time to throw means, that's fine.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_00]: But when you use it incorrectly in a very bold argument with me on social media, I will correct you.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: Time to throw does not mean how much time the offensive line gives the quarterback in a clean pocket to throw the ball.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: People are telling me, he had three point three seconds
- 52:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, Shidorah Sanders did have the highest time to throw in the NFL last year at 3.3 seconds.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_00]: But it did not mean that's how much time the line gave him to throw that means.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: Time to throw is how much time elapses from the snap to the point where the ball is thrown.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: How long does it take for the quarterback to get rid of the ball?
- 52:41[SPEAKER_00]: that is time to throw.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: It is not how much time your line provides you to throw.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think a very important thing to understand for everybody, and this isn't an official stat, but this is a Josh stat that I'm giving you right now.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: Shouldor had a 3.3 time to throw.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: The first one may be 1.5 seconds of that 3.3 time.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: was him simply evading the instant pressure and trying to find a spot where he could plant his feet and actually look across the field to see if there was anybody open.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like a lot of people either just don't remember the games didn't really watch the games or just choose not to remember what the reality was.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_00]: Again, 50.4% pressure rate on his drawbacks, third highest in the lead because teams knew got a rookie quarterback back there.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_00]: There ain't no run game to be worried about.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: They got nobody to throw two.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's hunting season on the quarterback.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: So as soon as the ball was snapped, I mean, guys, KT Leviston was playing right tackle.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: Cam Robinson, and I don't even know who else at left.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_00]: should or had pressure immediately.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_00]: So as soon as you get the ball, you can't just start going through your progressions.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: Now you gotta try to find a place to even start looking for progressions.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_00]: So again, I'm not making excuses for them.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just telling you guys the reality.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_00]: That was the truth last year.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_00]: Forcedure door during those seven games.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: It was it was bad.
- 54:11[SPEAKER_00]: Another thing.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it goes like he had the highest time to throw at 3.3 seconds.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: But the metrics that go along with that can tell you the true story of what's happening on the field because he had the, I don't want to say it was one of the lowest, but it was like league average.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_00]: It was like it was like right in line with guys like Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff in terms of pressure to sack ratio.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: So for everybody who said, you know, Shidorah
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: He took a couple of sacks a game, but again, they weren't all on him, the offensive line was terrible.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: And for me, a guy that holds the ball longer than anybody else in the lead, but yet still has a very league average, a very respectable, I think was 17.3%, 17.2% pressure to
- 55:19[SPEAKER_00]: Go back and I need to find these stats so I can actually give you guys the real data, but just go back and peep on 2024 what to Sean Watson's numbers were.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_00]: What was his time to throw?
- 55:27[SPEAKER_00]: It was well over three seconds as well.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_00]: But what was his pressure to sack ratio?
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, screw it.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: I went and looked up the stats for you guys anyway.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: I should never tell you guys you have to go do it.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'll do it for you.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_00]: I have the I have the means to do it.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not so just freaking do it.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_00]: Take me a couple extra minutes here.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: Pull them up 3.05 seconds was to Sean Watson's time to throw in 20 24.
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: But what was his pressure to sack ratio 28 freaking percent.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_00]: That means he's letting a lot of the pressures turn into sex.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: Shador Sanders was not at just a 17.2% that was very middle of the road.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_00]: Again, Stafford Golf players like that.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_00]: And as a rookie, that's what Shador Sanders was taking a sacks.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: To Sean Watson took 33 sacks.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_00]: Do you guys realize that?
- 56:16[SPEAKER_00]: In seven games, he took 33 sacks in 2024.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna do an episode here at some point comparing these two and really giving you guys the breakdown.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I think it's important to remember because some people seem to forget.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_00]: Sean Watson was really, really bad in 2024.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_00]: Really bad, like just really bad.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: I got really bad, okay?
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: All right, on, you get the point, really bad.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_00]: Anyhow,
- 56:48[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty much everything I wanted to go through with this.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's just a lot of reason to be exciting, guys.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: There is.
- 56:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't let the don't let the negativity, you know, that a lot of you were upset about from the last episode.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: So don't let that seep through too much.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: We're in May.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_00]: I was talking to Justin the other day.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: We were texting back and forth.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: and he was like, bro, what are we going to be negative about in May?
- 57:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, just it's me.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_00]: This is the time to be optimistic for the Browns.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's time to be hopeful.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's healthy.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's good to go.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't had training camp.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't had injury setbacks.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't had people get arrested yet.
- 57:23[SPEAKER_00]: God, I hope nobody does this year.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what the summer brings.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what training camp preseason holds.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 57:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's, I'm excited, guys.
- 57:33[SPEAKER_00]: I know, there's a lot of optimism around this team right now.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: And one last thing, before I get out of here, I know I'm dogging to Sean Watson at Tund.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_00]: And with good reason, I just don't believe in him anymore at all.
- 57:46[SPEAKER_00]: But I will say this, because I won it on record.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_00]: If Todd Monkin names to Sean Watson the starting quarterback,
- 57:55[SPEAKER_00]: And he's out there, first play, week one, down in Jacksonville, against the Jaguiers, I'm going to root for him.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because I'm rooting for the Browns.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_00]: And I think this is also very important.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_00]: I've talked about a lot of players in this episode.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of names, a lot of names on the back of the jersey.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a Browns fan.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_00]: First and foremost, before I'm a fan of any player, I am a fan of the team.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_00]: Before I'm a fan of any coach, any general manager, any owner, I am a fan of the team.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_00]: As long as you are aiding and supporting and benefiting my team in your corner, the second you start being a liability to my team, I'm no longer rooting for you.
- 58:41[SPEAKER_00]: But if you take the field for my team on a Sunday,
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: I will root for you to win because I want my team to win.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I just said this before and I think it's really well said.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_00]: I've been a fan of the Browns long before any of the current players are ever on this team.
- 59:00[SPEAKER_00]: And I will be a fan of this team long after they're all gone.
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: And that's what fandom is.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_00]: We've got these great players, and I'm excited for them.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: I really am, and it just, again, do I believe in Deshawn Watson?
- 59:15[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: No, I do not.
- 59:18[SPEAKER_00]: Will I root for him to succeed if he's named the starting quarterback?
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, because I want my team to win.
- 59:23[SPEAKER_00]: I want my team to be good.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_00]: I want to watch good football.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to hope he's good if he gets named the starter.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to expect it, or believe it's going to happen to I see it.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I will not be rooting for his demise.
- 59:36[SPEAKER_00]: I will not be rooting for him to fail.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_00]: I will not be rooting for the Browns to lose.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_00]: I will always root for the Browns to win.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you guys out there, a lot of you probably feel the exact same way.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_00]: I know there's a lot of that sentiment.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_00]: Just put the best guy out there who's gonna win us games.
- 59:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I agree that I just, I have my belief on who that is.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's why I'm so outspoken about it.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_00]: Time will tell all as it always does.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know what you guys think.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_00]: What are you excited about?
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_00]: For the upcoming Cleveland Brown season, all the changes, all the moves we've made, this offseason, the coaching staff, do you guys think you agree that there's gonna be a heavy emphasis on the running game?
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_00]: How do you think the passing game's gonna shake out?
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you think's gonna lead the team in receiving?
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_00]: Are you excited for what Mike Routenburg can add to this defense?
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_00]: Or do you think they take us step back as a unit?
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_00]: I love seeing your guys' comments.
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_00]: We read them all the time, try to respond to as many as possible.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_00]: Let us know, let me know what you think about all of that.

- 1:00:54[SPEAKER_00]: You'll still get into a fantasy league, but later we get into August the tighter it's going to get and you do run the risk of maybe not making the cut for a league if we've hit a fine number and it's like we've got to cut it off here.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know when the cutoff is going to be.
