- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:10Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Why do you think that anything has changed?
- 0:15Speaker 1: They brought the whole team back. They did not for
- 0:18Speaker 1: crying out loud. I love Stevenson and wanted him, by
- 0:21Speaker 1: the way to play before building. Well, you know more
- 0:24Speaker 1: than Bill. I'm just cautioning everybody. I think this could
- 0:28Speaker 1: be that one. I've told people they're not in the hunt.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I just I was cautioning now his finger wagging everybody.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I said, you're the one who put me on the left.
- 0:37Speaker 1: That's why I'm saying. I wasn't expecting that out of you.
- 0:40Speaker 1: You know, he doesn't even let me finish my sentence.
- 0:45Speaker 1: He really does hate the Patriots, It's true. And now
- 0:48Speaker 1: you're upset that I ended up being right. That's ninety
- 0:50Speaker 1: percent of the reason why I'm you're upset up. I
- 0:52Speaker 1: should let people speak for themselves. But okay, they did.
- 0:55Speaker 1: But I like the Patriots prepared for COVID. They didn't
- 0:57Speaker 1: know what's coming either. No, but I'm we have a
- 1:01Speaker 1: pandemic plan. No. My larger point, though, was about Patriots
- 1:04Speaker 1: don't plan to have a fullback in their offense right
- 1:07Speaker 1: more to eleven Mark, Well, I guess they don't want
- 1:09Speaker 1: to have a fullback in their offense anymore. They don't
- 1:11Speaker 1: want to. I don't said it in German or you
- 1:15Speaker 1: think they have sharps and do you think they know something?
- 1:17Speaker 1: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome
- 1:23Speaker 1: the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at Gillette Stadium,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and the news from the NFL just keeps coming. The
- 1:32Speaker 1: opens continued to umus the hell out, I forget what
- 1:36Speaker 1: we said, and then you missed a lot on the
- 1:39Speaker 1: day that you ducked me. I'm like, we're pretty funny.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I was afraid to put his mic. I'll do radio. Yeah,
- 1:48Speaker 1: um Tyreek Hill, Yeah yeah. Miami. Amount of absolute star
- 1:54Speaker 1: players being traded, I think that someone on on on
- 1:58Speaker 1: the Twitter has had like they've been nine trades involving
- 2:02Speaker 1: thirty nine combined Pro Bowls, you know, in the last
- 2:05Speaker 1: two weeks. Yeah, Yeah, it's unbelievable. I think it's a
- 2:10Speaker 1: I think it's a great move for Kansas City. I
- 2:13Speaker 1: think it's a really good move for Kansas City. I
- 2:15Speaker 1: think it's a good move from Miami too, but I
- 2:17Speaker 1: think it's I agree. I like it more forsyum Well
- 2:21Speaker 1: on the field or off the field both. I mean,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I think that they relieve themselves of a huge portion
- 2:29Speaker 1: of their salary. But also they got they got a
- 2:33Speaker 1: boatload of picks. They're gonna be able to get another
- 2:36Speaker 1: wide receiver. Now the person probably won't be as good
- 2:38Speaker 1: as Tyreek Hill, but they'll be able to get a
- 2:40Speaker 1: good wide receiver. And they've got a bunch of stuff
- 2:43Speaker 1: to you know, prep for the future because remember, you know,
- 2:46Speaker 1: Mahomes contract is like forty million next year or something
- 2:49Speaker 1: like that. So they're gonna need to do, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: through the draft, just like every other team management. Now
- 2:56Speaker 1: they've got all these draft picks to restock their team.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I think it's a great move. My feeling is I'm
- 3:03Speaker 1: with Fred on Kansas City. We talked about this, you
- 3:06Speaker 1: and I Mike. I just think that Tyreek Hill I
- 3:09Speaker 1: have the player, not the person. I have the utmost
- 3:13Speaker 1: respect for Tyreek Hill's ability. I think he is one
- 3:16Speaker 1: of the least overrated players in the league. What his
- 3:19Speaker 1: skill set is is as legitimate as it can be.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I mean, he has absolute elite speed. But I think
- 3:26Speaker 1: that when you get a guy like that into his thirties,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I don't think it, you know, figures to remain that way. Yeah, yeah,
- 3:36Speaker 1: I think from Miami. That's why I like very well.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I think from Miami and the short term it'll be fine. Yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 1: but kidsa city is banking on the long term. They
- 3:44Speaker 1: have Mahomes, that's right. They don't have to have the
- 3:46Speaker 1: short term star and they will get to. What I'm
- 3:49Speaker 1: saying is they have so much draft capital now they'll
- 3:52Speaker 1: probably end up getting U plus Nicole Hardman I think
- 3:55Speaker 1: will be a version of Hill. He's not as good,
- 3:59Speaker 1: he's not as good. He well, he's not gonna make
- 4:01Speaker 1: Like Devin mccordy talked the week of the game against
- 4:05Speaker 1: the Chiefs and say, well, when Mikole Hartman, you think
- 4:08Speaker 1: you're far far enough back, but you're not. That's not
- 4:11Speaker 1: that's they're not They're not comparable, right, But he will
- 4:15Speaker 1: give you that kind of a player in your offense.
- 4:19Speaker 1: And like Fred said, and they have a lot of
- 4:21Speaker 1: you know, pieces to work with to try to get
- 4:23Speaker 1: other young players to go with Mahomes, you know, big
- 4:26Speaker 1: cap hit they do. But I also am curious how
- 4:28Speaker 1: it works out because I think that when you got
- 4:31Speaker 1: past Hill and Kelsey with him, at times it looked
- 4:34Speaker 1: like he couldn't quite do it with those other guys.
- 4:36Speaker 1: He those other guys couldn't quite do it. I agree
- 4:39Speaker 1: with everything you're saying, they're gonna get a bunch of
- 4:40Speaker 1: picks and they'll be able to But let this past season, though, Paul,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I mean right like, they were kind of wait, we
- 4:49Speaker 1: saw that. They absolutely, yeah, they absolutely were not as
- 4:55Speaker 1: exploded as explosive as they have been in recent years.
- 4:58Speaker 1: So I mean that said they were over time of
- 5:00Speaker 1: the ABC champion and they figured it out right. But
- 5:03Speaker 1: but still, I think any time you had a key
- 5:05Speaker 1: receiver leave here, you know there's some question of how
- 5:09Speaker 1: is the next guy gonna come in? How's it gonna look?
- 5:11Speaker 1: Is it? You know, does it take him some time
- 5:12Speaker 1: to develop? I mean, who knows, Maybe the egg draft
- 5:14Speaker 1: Jamison Williams and it all works out fine, But I
- 5:16Speaker 1: still think there's some question there. You're gonna learn a
- 5:18Speaker 1: little bit about Patrick Mahomes without Tyree killed too early
- 5:21Speaker 1: than a year too late, I don't think. I don't
- 5:23Speaker 1: think there's anything to learn about Patrick Mahomes. I think
- 5:25Speaker 1: he's a la But I understand what Deuce is saying.
- 5:28Speaker 1: There is always uncertainty because I don't think and I
- 5:31Speaker 1: don't want people to misunderstand, Like I don't think Hardman's
- 5:34Speaker 1: just gonna oh yeah, no problem, you get Hardman. He
- 5:37Speaker 1: is that kind of player. He's a slot receiver, a
- 5:40Speaker 1: dynamic player, but he's not Tyree killed dynamic. Nobody is.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Nobody is, so they will there will be a drop
- 5:45Speaker 1: off there. But I feel like with him and Kelsey
- 5:49Speaker 1: and then you add Juju as that like complimentary kind
- 5:52Speaker 1: of guy, and I think a guy like Jamison Williams
- 5:54Speaker 1: does make a lot of sense for them because they
- 5:56Speaker 1: don't know a guy to come in and play seventeen
- 5:58Speaker 1: games for them next year. They'll be is fine, you know,
- 6:01Speaker 1: offensively and then they you know, potentially have him down
- 6:04Speaker 1: the road. I think it was a savvy move, yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I mean, and the thing is they were willing to
- 6:10Speaker 1: pay him. Yeah, they just didn't want to, you know, uh,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill just didn't want to tie himself to that.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And I think it was a combination, Like I know,
- 6:19Speaker 1: there's gonna be a lot of talk. They were he
- 6:21Speaker 1: was due to make like twenty one and a half
- 6:23Speaker 1: this year, so they were more than content to to
- 6:28Speaker 1: to resign him. But he wanted to be the highest
- 6:31Speaker 1: paid guy. He wanted Adams Mary and so the Chiefs
- 6:35Speaker 1: looks like, I can't pay him that for thirty three
- 6:38Speaker 1: at thirty two, thirty three years old, right, Miami could
- 6:40Speaker 1: afford it because they're a little bit Miami's and um,
- 6:45Speaker 1: you know, it could work out for them in the
- 6:47Speaker 1: short term. It also smells a little bit like, you know,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'm an owner that needs to get my fans back,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you know, and here here's a distraction move. You know. Yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 1: I mean, I just go back to Kansas City just momentarily.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I just think it's interesting making this move now when
- 7:01Speaker 1: you've seen the other teams in the AFC West really
- 7:04Speaker 1: making moves this offseason, and really, you know, and it's
- 7:06Speaker 1: just I mean, I think I give credit to Kansas
- 7:09Speaker 1: City for being willing to make that kind of move
- 7:11Speaker 1: now because on paper it looks like, man, they're coming
- 7:14Speaker 1: for you. And I'm sure that there are people out
- 7:16Speaker 1: there right now that would tell you that they're not
- 7:17Speaker 1: the divisional favorite right now. So long way to go,
- 7:20Speaker 1: but just interesting that they would be willing to pull
- 7:23Speaker 1: this trigger, especially when we deal all day long with this,
- 7:26Speaker 1: with trying to find a number wrong receiver and you know,
- 7:28Speaker 1: here they are, they're they're flipping one with their with
- 7:30Speaker 1: their quarterback in their prime. Yep. Yeah, And it is
- 7:33Speaker 1: funny because Mike is right, there's I mean, you can
- 7:38Speaker 1: make an argument for the other three teams being the
- 7:40Speaker 1: favorite in the division. I mean, if you wanted to,
- 7:42Speaker 1: you could make a strong argument for any of them.
- 7:45Speaker 1: And now if it turns out to be that, you know,
- 7:48Speaker 1: instead of thirteen wins, it goes down to ten wins. Well,
- 7:52Speaker 1: people are going to connect those dots and ignore the
- 7:54Speaker 1: fact that will instead of two cupcakes with Denver, they
- 7:57Speaker 1: had to play Russell Wilson twice, you know, instead two
- 8:00Speaker 1: cupcakes with uh, you know, the Charges and Raiders or whatever.
- 8:04Speaker 1: You know. Not that the Chiefs always go on defeat
- 8:06Speaker 1: in the division. They don't, but you know, there's been
- 8:10Speaker 1: there's been a lot of improvement around the conference, which
- 8:13Speaker 1: is probably even with or without Tyreek Hill, it was
- 8:15Speaker 1: probably going to impact the Chiefs. Yeah. Um, yeah, So
- 8:20Speaker 1: the news keeps coming. Patriots made it official with Trent Brown,
- 8:23Speaker 1: They made it official with Nick Folk so and you
- 8:26Speaker 1: know somebody else of note Malcolm Well they didn't make
- 8:30Speaker 1: an official yet, but not official. Yeah, but Malcolm Brown
- 8:33Speaker 1: is coming back. Butler Butler, Butler, bring them both back.
- 8:38Speaker 1: We'll take Malcolm. Everybody who's faster. I think I'm with them.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I am kidding. And I actually liked the Malcolm Butler move.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I know someone was clapping at me on Twitter yesterday, like, oh, Paul,
- 8:50Speaker 1: like is really upset. Like I liked Butler when he
- 8:53Speaker 1: was here and didn't want to let him go. And
- 8:55Speaker 1: unlike everybody else who thought, you know, when he left here,
- 8:59Speaker 1: he saw Now all of a sudden, you're starting to
- 9:02Speaker 1: cite all the PF now from twenty twenty. I love it.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I thought he started with the Titans, right, yeah, all right,
- 9:10Speaker 1: everybody tells me, you know, Bill made him, will make stars.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I think Butler is a depth move. He's not a
- 9:18Speaker 1: number one corner move. I think you're crazy because he's
- 9:22Speaker 1: now the number one corner on this team. But he's
- 9:24Speaker 1: not a number one corner. Oh okay, okay, I misunderstood you. Yeah,
- 9:27Speaker 1: I think it's approven. I think we still have a
- 9:30Speaker 1: lot long way to go. He's a starter. Yeah, but
- 9:33Speaker 1: that's not that's a low bar. But I just want
- 9:38Speaker 1: to recap the Patriots moves here. Um, you know, these
- 9:42Speaker 1: are a various tweets that came out from Patriots media. Um,
- 9:46Speaker 1: so Adam Schefter, here we go. Adam Schefter reports that
- 9:49Speaker 1: the Patriots have have signed former Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler.
- 9:54Speaker 1: He's returning to New England on a a two year deal.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Show prep quote tweet. Great move by Patriots. Okay, a
- 10:00Speaker 1: little before that, Tom Pellicero had the Patriots and offensive
- 10:04Speaker 1: tackle Trent brown agreeing on a two year deal. Quote
- 10:07Speaker 1: tweet from a Patriots reporter. Great deal by the Patriots
- 10:11Speaker 1: could be very good for Trent brown Field. Yanks had
- 10:14Speaker 1: a tweet back. On March nineteenth, Patriots in defensive lineman
- 10:19Speaker 1: Henry Anderson agreed to a reworked contract that pays them
- 10:23Speaker 1: the base salary of one point two five quote quote tweet.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Good move by the Patriots. This one probably wasn't quite
- 10:29Speaker 1: as good because this one only got a good move
- 10:31Speaker 1: by the Patriots and the Patriots still had cap space
- 10:33Speaker 1: for Anderson and not to be out done. On March eighteenth,
- 10:38Speaker 1: Ian Rappaport reported that the Patriots had agreed to terms
- 10:41Speaker 1: with their own linebacker Jawant Bentley on a two year
- 10:44Speaker 1: contract quote tweet solid deal for both parties. Bentley twenty
- 10:48Speaker 1: five will hit free agency still in his FI Are
- 10:50Speaker 1: you detecting a pattern here or when the Patriots make
- 10:53Speaker 1: a move it's a good one or at eleven? I
- 10:58Speaker 1: don't think that's what appens. No, it was the quote tweets. Yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 1: it's uh. I mean, I think a lot of these deals,
- 11:06Speaker 1: but I was all from the same person. By the way,
- 11:07Speaker 1: I don't really look at these these deals as as
- 11:11Speaker 1: as much. I mean I think that they're all they're
- 11:13Speaker 1: all proven deals. I mean, I think Trent Brown, you
- 11:15Speaker 1: protected yourself with the incentives in his contract. I think
- 11:18Speaker 1: with Malcolm Butler, when you see those numbers, it'll probably
- 11:20Speaker 1: be something similar. So I don't really see these moves
- 11:24Speaker 1: changing the trajectory of much. I mean, I think that
- 11:26Speaker 1: their depth and their guys that come in, um so
- 11:29Speaker 1: should we change the name of the team to the
- 11:30Speaker 1: New England prudence? I with the way Mike just said that,
- 11:37Speaker 1: I have no problem with the moves that they've made,
- 11:40Speaker 1: you know, those kinds of ancillary moves. I think Trent
- 11:42Speaker 1: Brown is a starter for sure. I like he's Trent
- 11:45Speaker 1: Brown one I'm very happy with. But people are like
- 11:48Speaker 1: going gaga over the contract. What a great What do
- 11:51Speaker 1: you think Trent Brown was going to get? He was
- 11:53Speaker 1: open for anybody. He's got no value. He doesn't play games.
- 11:59Speaker 1: The Patriots pay him what he's worth. He's a part
- 12:03Speaker 1: time player. He got a part time salary, and if
- 12:05Speaker 1: he plays all the games, he has a chance to
- 12:08Speaker 1: make a full time salary. Yep, right, yeah, that's the
- 12:12Speaker 1: way it works, that's the way it should work. I
- 12:14Speaker 1: think that contract was excellent. Yeah, yeah, excellent. Deuson and
- 12:16Speaker 1: I were talking upstairs about how the prevalence of two
- 12:20Speaker 1: year contracts that they've given out this year almost exclusively.
- 12:23Speaker 1: They've been last year, They've been a few one years.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But like, it's a lot of two year deals, which
- 12:28Speaker 1: means they could very easily just be one year, yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 1: you know, and don't cost you much if things don't
- 12:33Speaker 1: really work out and fill in gaps, you know. I always,
- 12:36Speaker 1: I always look at free agency with them in their
- 12:38Speaker 1: traditional mold of putting a guy in the depth chart
- 12:41Speaker 1: position and all right, well we have a guy there
- 12:44Speaker 1: who's a pro, who's played and if we had to
- 12:47Speaker 1: play a game tomorrow, we could put a pro out there.
- 12:50Speaker 1: We'll bring in more guys to beat him out, you know,
- 12:52Speaker 1: to try to push him. But I just, I mean,
- 12:54Speaker 1: I think we're getting into the dregs of free agency here.
- 12:57Speaker 1: And I know everybody's like, you know, bummed that they
- 12:59Speaker 1: did make those big, splashy moves, but I mean, I
- 13:01Speaker 1: was just thinking back to before free agency, and I
- 13:03Speaker 1: remember the last show before it started being like, I
- 13:05Speaker 1: really don't know what to expect. I really don't and
- 13:07Speaker 1: I think that that was you know, it just goes
- 13:09Speaker 1: back to the it's the draft like this there. Did
- 13:11Speaker 1: you think that they were going to go into free
- 13:13Speaker 1: agency and sign a couple of guys and like, I
- 13:15Speaker 1: know that they could have gotten better theoretically, but did
- 13:18Speaker 1: you think that they were going to go from where
- 13:19Speaker 1: they were a Super Bowl contender based on spending in
- 13:22Speaker 1: free agency? And you know, I mean, I think what
- 13:25Speaker 1: they're looking at is the long range. This is a
- 13:27Speaker 1: rebuild and you're going to find out a lot this year.
- 13:30Speaker 1: You got some guys on prove it deals and you
- 13:32Speaker 1: know you'll rejigger things again next year. But I just
- 13:34Speaker 1: it's the draft it's the draft. It's the draft. It's
- 13:36Speaker 1: the draft. That is what it is about. And they
- 13:38Speaker 1: have to do well in the draft. And I don't
- 13:41Speaker 1: really care about, you know, free agency this year and
- 13:44Speaker 1: what they might have missed out on. I don't think
- 13:46Speaker 1: that that was going to define the next five years
- 13:48Speaker 1: with you know, potentially Mac Jones being the quarterback. It's
- 13:51Speaker 1: about building the young core and finding these guys. So, yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 1: Malcolm Butler's old and Trent Brown's a little old. It's fine.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Those are incentive deals. They're not core pieces. If you're
- 13:59Speaker 1: signing guys in their thirties to like five six year deal,
- 14:02Speaker 1: like you know, then what what is that last year
- 14:04Speaker 1: they signed young guys? I know it's going around, all right,
- 14:06Speaker 1: They're gonna let that play out and see how it goes.
- 14:08Speaker 1: But I just I think that this team it's about
- 14:11Speaker 1: the young players. The draft, given the young guys chances
- 14:13Speaker 1: at linebacker and other positions, and then hitting on the draft.
- 14:17Speaker 1: And that's and that I think is everything to this
- 14:19Speaker 1: team going forward. I won't be surprised if there's some
- 14:22Speaker 1: moves that the Patriots make to acquire some more draft
- 14:25Speaker 1: picks before the draft, because I agree with you, it's
- 14:28Speaker 1: about the draft. Right now, they have what seven picks.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I think they probably want to get into ten to
- 14:34Speaker 1: that area. Well that's how would wonder Fred. Yeah, well,
- 14:39Speaker 1: you know it'd be mid round picks, but or you know,
- 14:42Speaker 1: but see, that's why I love last year. Just don't
- 14:45Speaker 1: overthink it. Take the guy that's there. Don't go up
- 14:48Speaker 1: and down the board and and and be you know,
- 14:51Speaker 1: like a sniper, and get the one thing you need.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Whereas in the past I felt like it was we
- 14:55Speaker 1: need ten picks so we can hit on three, you know,
- 14:58Speaker 1: rather than can we just get guys that that that
- 15:01Speaker 1: work here now instead of trying to like, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 1: have mats. I just I wonder how they're going to approach.
- 15:06Speaker 1: But don't you feel like they have to hit on three?
- 15:08Speaker 1: I think that that's this That might be the safer
- 15:09Speaker 1: approach is to throw more at the wall. But at
- 15:11Speaker 1: the same time, last year you had success with with
- 15:13Speaker 1: not quite as many picks and you know, not having
- 15:16Speaker 1: to feel like we're going up there going also was
- 15:18Speaker 1: a great draft. Last year's draft class was a great class. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 1: this year is not considered that so I thought I
- 15:26Speaker 1: thought there was a lot of good depth, good depth, believers,
- 15:30Speaker 1: a lot of cornerbacks. I mean, I don't know. Listen,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I only read stuff about the draft. I don't ever
- 15:35Speaker 1: pretend to be a draft expert. But I read Jeff
- 15:38Speaker 1: Nick someone had commented that there's nobody in this draft
- 15:42Speaker 1: that would have been in the top twelve last year.
- 15:44Speaker 1: But that's okay. I didn't say it wasn't. I'm just
- 15:47Speaker 1: saying last year was an exceptional draft class, right, but
- 15:50Speaker 1: this year isn't. But then after twelve they say, this
- 15:53Speaker 1: is a pretty good class. It's a thirty to ninety draft. Okay, yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 1: so that means you get thirty to ninety type player.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Eric started to get upset. Well, it's it makes a laugh.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I'll take another Christian barn War or Romande Stevenson, you know,
- 16:08Speaker 1: players of that ilk. Yeah, it makes me laugh though, because, Okay,
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to I'm gonna try to explain this
- 16:13Speaker 1: for you. Those players in this draft or top ten. No,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I don't think that's what they're saying. That's what they're saying. No,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I'm saying top ten. There's nobody in this draft that
- 16:25Speaker 1: would have been high last year. That's not so you
- 16:27Speaker 1: got to take the guys that were in the thirties
- 16:29Speaker 1: last year and move them up fifteen spots, twenty spots. No,
- 16:33Speaker 1: that's pretty much that's what they're saying. I again, I
- 16:35Speaker 1: don't know if that's true. Please don't attack me when
- 16:37Speaker 1: this ends up being like a Hall of Fame draft class.
- 16:40Speaker 1: I'm just reading stuff, okay, well, and I just I
- 16:43Speaker 1: don't I'm not a draft an a last I just
- 16:44Speaker 1: read stuff. I just think to your point, Paul, there's
- 16:47Speaker 1: no consensus on who the top pick even is. And
- 16:49Speaker 1: and every new mock there draft that comes out today,
- 16:51Speaker 1: my guy Travon Walker is number one overall. And I
- 16:54Speaker 1: mean I've seen stuff that there's like eight first round players. Yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: that's a pretty low number. Again, there could be twenty.
- 17:02Speaker 1: They don't know. These guys don't know. I fully fully submit.
- 17:05Speaker 1: These guys are full of it. That's the time. That's
- 17:07Speaker 1: why it makes me laugh because I feel like every
- 17:09Speaker 1: time every year when we get to the draft, the
- 17:13Speaker 1: talk is about how you know, there's not a lot
- 17:17Speaker 1: of high end talent, it's a lot of mid range stuff.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Wait till next year's draft. That's gonna be a really
- 17:21Speaker 1: good one. Then we get to next year's draft and
- 17:23Speaker 1: it's like, Ah, there's really not a lot of great
- 17:24Speaker 1: players here, but wait till next year's draft. I heard, Yes,
- 17:27Speaker 1: this happens every year and Mike and I is that
- 17:30Speaker 1: because players just aren't spending enough time in college they're
- 17:33Speaker 1: declaring too early or I just think these guys I
- 17:35Speaker 1: don't really know what they're talking about. Well, I think
- 17:37Speaker 1: last year was an exceptionally good draft class. They haven't
- 17:39Speaker 1: spend any more or less time in the draft in
- 17:42Speaker 1: college last year. Yeah, I just think it's cyclical. Sometimes
- 17:45Speaker 1: there's better crops coming out. I wonder if there's any
- 17:47Speaker 1: any bit of COVID in that whole year and people
- 17:50Speaker 1: coming out earlier staying later, if that plays into it
- 17:52Speaker 1: at all too But um, but I think you're right, Paul.
- 17:55Speaker 1: But I also think to Eric's point, it's like they
- 17:57Speaker 1: always say that and then wow, there was a super stared.
- 18:02Speaker 1: It builds a big Bills a big advocate of every
- 18:06Speaker 1: draft has an amount I don't know what the number is,
- 18:08Speaker 1: but there's an amount of quality NFL players and that
- 18:11Speaker 1: number fluctuates very little. Yeah, and builds a big strong
- 18:16Speaker 1: backer of that theory. And I kind of agree with
- 18:17Speaker 1: we never get any of them. You know, we got
- 18:21Speaker 1: three of them last yow we did. Yeah, But you know,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I think, I mean, I think everybody knows how wow.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But again, a lot of receivers. I mean, I think
- 18:31Speaker 1: that's one thing that you kind of feel like you can.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I mean, they're not all gonna hit. They're gonna be
- 18:35Speaker 1: some bust. But I think that's the last few years,
- 18:37Speaker 1: and I think Kansas so much so, by the way,
- 18:42Speaker 1: I'll get to that in a second. I have a
- 18:43Speaker 1: developing thought on that. Right. Um, Mike and I have
- 18:46Speaker 1: been really um into the wide receivers. Right, We've been like,
- 18:50Speaker 1: this is we gotta do it, we gotta do it.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I mean, there's you know, ten ten wide receivers are
- 18:56Speaker 1: making impacts immediately in the last three drafts in a row.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And this is an the crop that is considered. I
- 19:02Speaker 1: did you know we're big on the day two thing.
- 19:04Speaker 1: And I did hear something yesterday that kind of scared
- 19:06Speaker 1: me and that people andies No, no, that was my
- 19:11Speaker 1: developing thought. It was big head. Um. But the whole
- 19:16Speaker 1: idea that it's kind of a there are some good
- 19:19Speaker 1: receivers in this class, but it's it's it's a little
- 19:21Speaker 1: top heavy, there's three or four really good ones and
- 19:24Speaker 1: then there's a noticeable drop off, and then there's gonna
- 19:26Speaker 1: be other guys that are available. I was kind of like,
- 19:30Speaker 1: there's really no I don't because I look at this crop,
- 19:33Speaker 1: but I don't see a Jamar Chase and I don't
- 19:35Speaker 1: I don't see like guys that are were thought of
- 19:37Speaker 1: the way the Chase was last year. Yeah, the way
- 19:39Speaker 1: Waddle was last year heading into the draft. So I
- 19:42Speaker 1: was like, nah, there's like ten or twelve, they're all
- 19:44Speaker 1: the same. You can get one of these guys in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the second round, no problem. And then I heard someone
- 19:48Speaker 1: talking about it yesterday and I was like, that kind
- 19:50Speaker 1: of worries me. Yeah, I'm still I'm still more with you.
- 19:52Speaker 1: But I think it's the same thing. Like we talked
- 19:54Speaker 1: about all these mocks and and you never know who's
- 19:56Speaker 1: going first. This is the same thing with the receivers
- 19:57Speaker 1: that they're all over the map too. I mean, Garrett Wilson,
- 20:00Speaker 1: christ Lave those guys are you know, you have one
- 20:03Speaker 1: group that loves one, another group loves the other. Sometimes
- 20:06Speaker 1: you know Wilson's going up in the top ten. It's
- 20:09Speaker 1: just it's all over the place. I think it just
- 20:10Speaker 1: depends on you know, what you like, what you think
- 20:13Speaker 1: you need. But I think there's big guys, there's downfield,
- 20:15Speaker 1: contested catch guys. But I think, you know, the Mechi's,
- 20:19Speaker 1: I mean, I think like the Metchi's of the world.
- 20:21Speaker 1: That's you know, I think that's the pick that that
- 20:23Speaker 1: probably most people I think could get on board with,
- 20:25Speaker 1: just based on an explosive guys got some versatilities, got
- 20:29Speaker 1: a rapport with mac already. Um I saw today Doug
- 20:32Speaker 1: Ferrar put out a mock where he had Sky Moore,
- 20:34Speaker 1: which is another guy, you know, just quick, versatile guy
- 20:37Speaker 1: that can move in and tucking me. I talked a
- 20:39Speaker 1: little bit about now, well I was scared of you, Paul,
- 20:42Speaker 1: and I needed to you know, just have it tacking me.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But but Mike brings up big head, who did I think,
- 20:47Speaker 1: you know, I have to give credit with credits. Do
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think he makes a good point, Fred, you're talking
- 20:50Speaker 1: about Kansas City in Green Bay's another one. Yeah, you
- 20:54Speaker 1: know that they're probably going to be looking in the
- 20:56Speaker 1: draft for a wide receiver. They're both picking a little
- 20:59Speaker 1: bit behind the Patriots row. Yeah, Eagles are just get
- 21:03Speaker 1: ready for the trade down. The Eagles with those three picks,
- 21:05Speaker 1: you know, before the Paths and that's you know they mean, yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 1: I'm just talking about those two were right behind the Patriots,
- 21:13Speaker 1: and they're gonna be able to move on to try
- 21:15Speaker 1: to get go to phillybot to Philly. They're gonna have
- 21:17Speaker 1: They're gonna be willing to move and the Patriots, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 1: could be in play to move down. Like you know,
- 21:22Speaker 1: I could see everybody getting excited. They're gonna get a lavage.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I resigned a traded with green Bay, green Bay, you
- 21:30Speaker 1: know that would be you know, yep, yeah, yeah, But
- 21:35Speaker 1: there's a lot of guys. They need a lot of stuff.
- 21:37Speaker 1: I think there's just anyway these drafts kind of go.
- 21:40Speaker 1: There's there's positions they need and potential impact players. But
- 21:44Speaker 1: I just I think they have to hit on it.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I just I hope they realize, and I'm sure that
- 21:48Speaker 1: they do how how important it is, and you know,
- 21:50Speaker 1: it's just it's just continues. As you know, with the
- 21:53Speaker 1: trading a Chase win of Itch, I feel like that
- 21:55Speaker 1: puts somewhat of a period on the nineteen class and
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know, unfortunately you gotta lump them in with with
- 22:01Speaker 1: that other group and you know, as much as you
- 22:03Speaker 1: want to, maybe say the twenty class turn things around
- 22:06Speaker 1: a little bit, we'll see. Well, I don't think the
- 22:11Speaker 1: twenty class belongs and like the but I still think
- 22:15Speaker 1: that one could go. You know, but I think Dugger
- 22:19Speaker 1: is pretty good. I think when you was was a
- 22:22Speaker 1: good pick. You know, I you know, whether he's a
- 22:25Speaker 1: full time star on the offensive line, He's a player
- 22:28Speaker 1: he could play. You know, Haran hasn't been a disaster
- 22:32Speaker 1: when he's been on the field as a what a
- 22:34Speaker 1: seventh round pick offensive lineman, which by the way, I'm
- 22:37Speaker 1: a big fan of, that's where you get him. Yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 1: sixth I think that's where you build your line, you know,
- 22:41Speaker 1: late round picks. You know, if you have a stud
- 22:44Speaker 1: left tackle, then you got to take him in the
- 22:45Speaker 1: top fifteen. You know, Rashaan Slater, he's gonna go earl
- 22:48Speaker 1: if you want a guy like that. But yeah, but
- 22:51Speaker 1: now the time death on your offensive line. I mean,
- 22:55Speaker 1: you know, why why do you take these guys? That's
- 22:57Speaker 1: why I say, you don't know sketch. You know, I
- 23:00Speaker 1: do like Dugger, and I do like a when you
- 23:01Speaker 1: I do too. That twenty I think those are tough.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Haran physical guys that that get it. Are they gonna
- 23:07Speaker 1: be elite? I don't know, but I think they're solid,
- 23:10Speaker 1: solid guys. And I just I mean, I guess maybe
- 23:12Speaker 1: with with Mason move and maybe you put on when
- 23:15Speaker 1: you at right guard. Maybe he's better there. Maybe that's
- 23:16Speaker 1: where he played in college. Maybe he likes that side better.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I don't know, because he did okay at right tackles.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I don't know the offensive line breakdown, play a little
- 23:23Speaker 1: right play, a little right guard, you know. Talking to
- 23:26Speaker 1: people at the pro day this week, By the way,
- 23:30Speaker 1: we should talk about that. Deuce was at the Holy
- 23:31Speaker 1: Cross pro day when he was ducking me the other
- 23:33Speaker 1: day all the way to way. Yes, he painted the
- 23:38Speaker 1: town red and they rolled out the red card heroes. Well, yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 1: now it was cool. I got to, you know, meet
- 23:45Speaker 1: Brian Smith, one of the Patriots scouts who didn't didn't
- 23:49Speaker 1: do didn't He was busy and uh, you know, I
- 23:52Speaker 1: think the thing that stuck out to me just watching
- 23:53Speaker 1: him kind of run the day because the Patriots, because
- 23:55Speaker 1: it's in Massachusetts, kind of are responsible to run it up.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I mean, everything you would backed about, meticulous, detail oriented.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I mean, we arrived there. He's making sure that the
- 24:05Speaker 1: you know, the high jump is the correct distance. He's
- 24:08Speaker 1: making sure the shuttle is a ten. You know, the
- 24:10Speaker 1: forty is forty. I mean everything is is double checked
- 24:14Speaker 1: and and and crossing. I mean the other the other
- 24:16Speaker 1: funny thing that you know, probably not that surprising to
- 24:18Speaker 1: people when you say it, but you know, just how
- 24:21Speaker 1: friendly all the scouts are to get like the Jets
- 24:22Speaker 1: guy shows ah, you know, like and they all work together,
- 24:25Speaker 1: they work well together. I mean it's just what you
- 24:27Speaker 1: might not expect with how competitive the teams are on
- 24:30Speaker 1: the field. But um, but yeah, you know, I holy
- 24:33Speaker 1: Cross was just it was awesome to talk to the coach.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Coach a great guy, um, you know, great facilities, and
- 24:38Speaker 1: it was cool just seeing what schools were represented. So
- 24:41Speaker 1: there was two kids from holy Cross, two kids from
- 24:43Speaker 1: Brown Um. There was one from Framingham State, one from
- 24:47Speaker 1: Bridgewater State, a couple from Assumption, one from a Maria.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I've anna Maria uself at Regina, Right. Yeah, but it
- 25:00Speaker 1: was just it was my first career win. What I
- 25:02Speaker 1: liked and what I wrote about was just these kids
- 25:05Speaker 1: and and and this chance that they have. And you know,
- 25:08Speaker 1: one particular receiver from Brown Um graduated two years ago
- 25:11Speaker 1: and never really got a chance. He came back to
- 25:14Speaker 1: this uh to to work out, but uh, you know
- 25:22Speaker 1: here's like and and and E. J. Perry. We talked
- 25:24Speaker 1: to him afterwards a little bit, the Brown quarterback, and
- 25:26Speaker 1: he said, you know, this is a guy I played
- 25:27Speaker 1: with and you know he's out in the real world
- 25:29Speaker 1: two years he's been working out six days a week
- 25:31Speaker 1: and you know, here we are today. This is his
- 25:33Speaker 1: chance with all these eyes on him. Um. And then
- 25:36Speaker 1: it was funny afterwards kind of emailing with Brian Smith,
- 25:38Speaker 1: and I think that he was like, you know, in
- 25:41Speaker 1: his response to me, He's like, can I kind of
- 25:42Speaker 1: have over my career? I lost lost site a little
- 25:45Speaker 1: bit of like how how much pressure and how big
- 25:48Speaker 1: of this is for these kids? I mean, I think
- 25:49Speaker 1: he's so focused on executing it, getting it all right,
- 25:52Speaker 1: recording it, knowing everyone has the information that you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: sometimes you forget, but you see these kids there, their
- 25:57Speaker 1: families there, you realize. I mean, what's it like to
- 25:59Speaker 1: go from Framingham State and now you know you're you're
- 26:02Speaker 1: playing in and you know, getting to do drills in
- 26:04Speaker 1: front of all these NFL guys who you know with
- 26:06Speaker 1: it just in a couple of months could change your life.
- 26:09Speaker 1: How many clubs showed up? I think just about everybody.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I mean I couldn't. I didn't do a firm count
- 26:13Speaker 1: just because there were a lot a lot of people there.
- 26:15Speaker 1: But it wasn't experienced prode guys. You don't know, he
- 26:19Speaker 1: didn't have the completely irrelevant minutia at the rain. Does
- 26:24Speaker 1: BC have their own PROD? Yeah? BC has their own
- 26:26Speaker 1: Yukon Yukons was yesterday, so Brian, he was at Ukons yesterday, UM,
- 26:31Speaker 1: which also was like Sacred Heart Central Connecticut. They UM.
- 26:34Speaker 1: But you know these guys just listen to them to
- 26:36Speaker 1: a talk. It's like the Scouts that this is what
- 26:38Speaker 1: they do all all spring long. You know, one of
- 26:40Speaker 1: them's like, I gotta go up to the main to
- 26:43Speaker 1: work out. One dude like you know, University of Maine
- 26:46Speaker 1: or no, what that is like four and a half. Yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I'd like to see one dude like measure him, watch
- 26:52Speaker 1: him jump bench, run around. All right, thanks, all right,
- 26:57Speaker 1: but you could see, uh, you know after being at
- 26:59Speaker 1: the combine. I'm watching the combine. You can see what
- 27:02Speaker 1: level athletes those guys are. And and you know some
- 27:04Speaker 1: of those guys that that I saw you could tell
- 27:06Speaker 1: they weren't quite up to snuff as far as the
- 27:08Speaker 1: athletics is, but a lot of them looked apart and
- 27:11Speaker 1: tested the part, and you know, they were all supportive
- 27:13Speaker 1: of each other. And I think e J. Perry's a
- 27:15Speaker 1: really really you know, nice kid, and Matt Hasselbeck was
- 27:18Speaker 1: out there supporting him. You know what's making the drive out,
- 27:21Speaker 1: especially for a BC guy to go to holy Cross. Um,
- 27:23Speaker 1: it was pretty cool. Okay, well that was big h
- 27:26Speaker 1: Deuce's big day on Tuesday. I was on campus. It's
- 27:30Speaker 1: pretty cool. And he's got something up now. Yeah I
- 27:33Speaker 1: posted it. Yeah it was got a little right of it.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Check that out. Check it out out, check check it out.
- 27:39Speaker 1: But a nice little kind of glimpse behind the curtain
- 27:41Speaker 1: a little bit. And and yeah, like I said, I
- 27:43Speaker 1: really like just watching the kids and that anything to
- 27:46Speaker 1: get away from Paul, right, that's what I like. He
- 27:48Speaker 1: ducked me when he was raining it out. I wanted
- 27:51Speaker 1: to make sure that I chimed in. Really good move
- 27:54Speaker 1: here by dude. I have to say though, in my defense, um,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I wasn't sure if Paul was taking last Friday off
- 28:00Speaker 1: and then uh, and then he came in Friday morning,
- 28:02Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, I'm so excited. I wanted
- 28:05Speaker 1: to tell him all about the show, like they hated me.
- 28:06Speaker 1: There od that that same grin on his face and
- 28:10Speaker 1: tell me how much everybody hated him. I don't blame me.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I wasn't there. I loved it. I love well that's
- 28:16Speaker 1: how you. I mean, it's like, you know, I don't.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I don't push buttons a lot, so so I'm glad
- 28:20Speaker 1: that people are in buttons. A little bit later and
- 28:22Speaker 1: more to come, there was a comment that rankled me
- 28:27Speaker 1: from a former member of the Patriots organization. Oh, boy,
- 28:30Speaker 1: show prep all right, eight five five past five hundred
- 28:32Speaker 1: is the eight ticket hut line eight five five pass
- 28:35Speaker 1: five hundred. Web radio at Patriots dot com is the
- 28:38Speaker 1: way to email the show. I think that's pretty much
- 28:42Speaker 1: all the news that we can put on the Yeah,
- 28:48Speaker 1: I mean I think that I don't think he should
- 28:52Speaker 1: be allowed to step on the field until it says
- 28:54Speaker 1: why he wasn't able to play at home. That's another
- 28:57Speaker 1: part that that just cracks me up, is that I
- 28:59Speaker 1: know that today on all these channels, that it's that
- 29:02Speaker 1: that's like, oh, we gotta figure it out. Now we're
- 29:04Speaker 1: back on the case. Well, there's two mysteries now surrounding him,
- 29:07Speaker 1: because the other end is why did he retire? Far
- 29:11Speaker 1: more interested in that and that does he want to
- 29:14Speaker 1: play right? Because again I look at it from the
- 29:17Speaker 1: fan perspective, like what is that going to mean for
- 29:20Speaker 1: the team. Yeah, I mean people like, oh, Malcolm Butler
- 29:23Speaker 1: is gonna come in and he's gonna, you know, be
- 29:25Speaker 1: a starter at corner. He may not make it out
- 29:27Speaker 1: of training camp. He may not want to play right.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I mean, he retired during training camp last year right before.
- 29:33Speaker 1: I don't pencil him in as an automatic week one. No,
- 29:37Speaker 1: neither do I. But at the same time, I think
- 29:38Speaker 1: if he's got his his life in order and he
- 29:40Speaker 1: worked through whatever he had to work through, and then
- 29:43Speaker 1: the Star and he feels yeah, then he feels he's
- 29:45Speaker 1: in a good pace and he's excited. I mean, I
- 29:47Speaker 1: saw I think Volin, you know, saying he's very excited,
- 29:50Speaker 1: you know, to be that is it cream cheese or
- 29:53Speaker 1: cream cheese? Cream cheese, cream cheese. I agree, Hardy says
- 29:56Speaker 1: no Haven or New Haven. I disagree with him on that.
- 29:59Speaker 1: New And I thought I was alone. I didn't want
- 30:01Speaker 1: to engage because what does he say, cream cheese, cream cheese,
- 30:05Speaker 1: cream cheese cheese. See, and you thought cream cheese. You
- 30:08Speaker 1: thought we couldn't do it because it's because it's what
- 30:13Speaker 1: type of cheese. It is cream cheese. So you you
- 30:16Speaker 1: emphasize the cheese, the cream. It's cream cheese. It's not
- 30:21Speaker 1: what type of cream you have, type of cheese, it
- 30:25Speaker 1: is cream cheese. Right, then you get then you get
- 30:28Speaker 1: whipped cream cheese cheese. Too many our sense on the
- 30:35Speaker 1: wrong level. I didn't think we delve into that early
- 30:38Speaker 1: in the show, right quick aside, but just one more
- 30:41Speaker 1: thing though, I mean, I think the thing about Malcolm
- 30:44Speaker 1: is like a guy who might be able to play Man,
- 30:46Speaker 1: and that's what's absolutely desperate for right now. So if
- 30:51Speaker 1: if he still got a little of that in the tank,
- 30:53Speaker 1: they don't have they don't really have anything. I think
- 30:55Speaker 1: the reason that they didn't play more Man last year
- 30:57Speaker 1: is because the other guys couldn't, Like jac Jackson was
- 31:01Speaker 1: more than comfortable playing Man. Oh sure, but man zone. Yeah,
- 31:06Speaker 1: So that's what they had to do in the second
- 31:08Speaker 1: half of last year because I think they felt like
- 31:11Speaker 1: the other guys around jac Jackson weren't capable of doing
- 31:15Speaker 1: it based on like the Dallas game in particular. Yeah,
- 31:19Speaker 1: I would. I mean, i'd love to. Didn't work out
- 31:20Speaker 1: all that well either, you know, one of those other
- 31:22Speaker 1: one of the one of the draft corners. But I mean,
- 31:24Speaker 1: I think it's just about options and being able to,
- 31:26Speaker 1: you know, not go into the season and be like, well,
- 31:28Speaker 1: we gotta play zone because that's all we can do.
- 31:30Speaker 1: All right. Uh, let's where are you going? Paul's what's
- 31:34Speaker 1: he doing? Always gotta change. He's gonna put on the
- 31:36Speaker 1: n Cuba hockey. I hope it's frozen fall. Whence basketball
- 31:42Speaker 1: start all that night? Right? Yeah, tonight that night, that
- 31:46Speaker 1: night to night to night. Um, let's get to the Ace.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Ticket outline will start with Chris and Scottsdale. What's up Chris, Hey,
- 31:55Speaker 1: great cream cheese talk this morning, fells riveting, really stuff
- 32:01Speaker 1: cross talk. It's still breakfast time out in Scottsdale, and
- 32:06Speaker 1: I love it. So I was inspired to call in today,
- 32:11Speaker 1: you know, just concerning the offseason and one of the
- 32:15Speaker 1: things that's concerning for me, which you know, obviously we
- 32:17Speaker 1: know there's plenty on the table to be concerned about
- 32:19Speaker 1: this year, um, is you know it's it's rumored that
- 32:23Speaker 1: we're going to have you know, over one hundred million available,
- 32:26Speaker 1: and uh, you know, at our at our disposal for
- 32:31Speaker 1: next year started receiving a call, I just had to
- 32:32Speaker 1: decline it, um, you know, for next year, which is exciting,
- 32:36Speaker 1: but but everybody else is going to have seventy eighty
- 32:38Speaker 1: million in the tank themselves and we're not necessarily a
- 32:41Speaker 1: destination anymore. And to miss out on being able to
- 32:44Speaker 1: build out a build on the team, you know, this year,
- 32:47Speaker 1: and it seems like an edict you know from Roberts
- 32:50Speaker 1: versus Bill necessarily not wanting to open up the purse strings.
- 32:53Speaker 1: I think he's just been told no, that that's the
- 32:56Speaker 1: one thing, and to follow up on that as an aside,
- 33:00Speaker 1: if you're not going after anybody in the market now,
- 33:03Speaker 1: then what we're going to experience, you know, uh, draftwise
- 33:08Speaker 1: and everything like that is, you know, now we're going
- 33:10Speaker 1: to be forced to obviously get a corner instead of
- 33:13Speaker 1: the wide receiver that we've been lusting for forever, even
- 33:16Speaker 1: back to Tom Brady days. You're now going to end
- 33:20Speaker 1: up you know, having next year where you know you're
- 33:23Speaker 1: going to go back in the draft and look, we're
- 33:25Speaker 1: going to be just in time, you know, because we'll
- 33:27Speaker 1: be drafting anywhere between number five and number eight. We'll
- 33:30Speaker 1: be just in time to draft a left tackle which
- 33:33Speaker 1: will do nothing but tickle Bill's fancy because that'll be
- 33:35Speaker 1: great for him, or he'll trade out of it completely
- 33:38Speaker 1: and you know, get three second rounders or you know
- 33:40Speaker 1: something like that, or you know, two thirds in a second,
- 33:43Speaker 1: and it's just you know, we're we're a mess, man.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I mean, we're really, really, really, sincerely and utterly a mess,
- 33:49Speaker 1: you really think, So, how did you feel last offseason
- 33:52Speaker 1: before before they went on free agency? I knew that
- 33:56Speaker 1: that was going to be coming, and exactly when you
- 33:58Speaker 1: said this, you know, it was uncarefu heuristic for us
- 34:00Speaker 1: to make the voluble signings that we made. But I
- 34:03Speaker 1: gotta tell you, guys, I wasn't overwhelmed by the names
- 34:06Speaker 1: that we signed. In fact, I kind of saw a
- 34:09Speaker 1: little bit of this coming when you look at the
- 34:11Speaker 1: Nelson Aguilars of of of the you know, wide receiver corps.
- 34:16Speaker 1: You know, when you look at those names, when you
- 34:17Speaker 1: look at the Hunter Henry, when you look at you know,
- 34:20Speaker 1: John of Smith, you know, especially John Whu. I knew
- 34:23Speaker 1: that there was going to be issues there. I knew,
- 34:26Speaker 1: you know, cultivating these two into our system, in the
- 34:28Speaker 1: two sight end system and everything, I kind of projected
- 34:31Speaker 1: that there was going to be an issue. I knew
- 34:33Speaker 1: Hunter was like solid, but I knew John U. Smith
- 34:35Speaker 1: was kind of gadget if that makes sense? Guys, that
- 34:39Speaker 1: does you know if you if you followed him in
- 34:40Speaker 1: Tennessee at all? You know, So they spend all the
- 34:43Speaker 1: money last year but on all the wrong guys, and
- 34:44Speaker 1: then this year they're not spending anybody on anybody. So
- 34:47Speaker 1: you don't what do you what do you have to do?
- 34:51Speaker 1: I've done some research. I think a mess is is
- 34:55Speaker 1: a little strong. Yeah, like the terms, but you made
- 34:58Speaker 1: it to the playoffs with a rookie quarterback. I know
- 35:00Speaker 1: it was ugly, but like you know, you realize they
- 35:02Speaker 1: could have won two games last year and that will
- 35:04Speaker 1: be a lot worse than how the season went. Right, Like,
- 35:06Speaker 1: I mean, it's not like devoid. You have a quarterback
- 35:09Speaker 1: at least that you think can play. If you spend
- 35:11Speaker 1: one hundred and seventy five million in an off season
- 35:13Speaker 1: to win two games, and you have bigger problem. I mean,
- 35:15Speaker 1: I don't think that was on the table. I'm sorry,
- 35:17Speaker 1: Like you were supposed to be good and you were good. Sure, so, right, guys,
- 35:22Speaker 1: And and how bad were the players then, I guess
- 35:24Speaker 1: they did Okay, at least it wasn't a total disaster.
- 35:27Speaker 1: They didn't. We'll do so I'm gonna I'm gonna respond
- 35:29Speaker 1: to that. You know, so you said, hey, you know, listen,
- 35:31Speaker 1: we won ten games. Okay, well look at the games
- 35:33Speaker 1: that we won, do you know, look look a little deeper.
- 35:36Speaker 1: You know, there's a lot of these teams that we know,
- 35:38Speaker 1: but they won the games. They won the games, like
- 35:40Speaker 1: I know, we can go down and micromanage every victory.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Where he's going with this, go ahead, Chris, Yeah, Well
- 35:45Speaker 1: because listen, I'm just saying you can only play what's
- 35:48Speaker 1: on your schedule. I mean, absolutely agreed. But listen, facts
- 35:51Speaker 1: or facts, there is black and white to it, right,
- 35:53Speaker 1: It's not just something I'm using like a stat to, like,
- 35:56Speaker 1: you know, promote my perspective today. It's the fact, sorry,
- 36:00Speaker 1: there was injuries. You were getting these teams at the
- 36:02Speaker 1: right time. I mean, you know, the Buffalo win with
- 36:04Speaker 1: the weather all that kind of stuff. To your point,
- 36:06Speaker 1: du so, somebody had to win the game. We came
- 36:08Speaker 1: out victorious. That still doesn't mean that it was a
- 36:12Speaker 1: great offseason. And you know this, that and the other.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I mean, Bill is still an amazing coach. I'm speaking
- 36:18Speaker 1: to you know, like like you know, the elders of
- 36:21Speaker 1: the world and everybody that calls you, did we talk
- 36:23Speaker 1: about Bill the GM. I'm not just sitting here trying
- 36:25Speaker 1: to beat my chest and complaining bitch a bone and grown.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I'm just trying to say, like, factually speaking, man, factually speaking,
- 36:34Speaker 1: the draft is being sped up right now to have
- 36:36Speaker 1: a lot of letdowns like it usually is. I mean
- 36:40Speaker 1: about the draft already they had a good draft last year.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Already ruling out the whole draft like that, that seems
- 36:45Speaker 1: I'm defeated. Why. I'll explain why, because with letting go
- 36:50Speaker 1: of J. C. Jackson, you now pivot yourself off of
- 36:54Speaker 1: a year that everybody's saying it is going to be
- 36:56Speaker 1: a bridge year. You to look at all the signings
- 36:59Speaker 1: and the improvement of the teams around us, We're not
- 37:01Speaker 1: going to be able to compete with those teams at
- 37:03Speaker 1: a high level. So we know this year is pretty
- 37:05Speaker 1: much a wash. Right, So no, now I don't I don't,
- 37:09Speaker 1: I don't know that, Okay, well, you're just assuming every
- 37:12Speaker 1: team is gonna and everybody on the Patriots is going
- 37:14Speaker 1: to be worse. Nobody's going to get better. Anything that
- 37:16Speaker 1: can go wrong with the team will go wrong. Mac
- 37:18Speaker 1: Jones doesn't ever tell me that the improvements all these
- 37:21Speaker 1: teams they've made, moves that on paper are improvements, but
- 37:28Speaker 1: as we know, it doesn't always pan out. I don't
- 37:31Speaker 1: really care about the rest of the league. I care
- 37:33Speaker 1: about Buffalo they added Val Miller, nice signing. I care
- 37:35Speaker 1: about Miami they got they got Tyreek Hill great. But
- 37:39Speaker 1: you know, I don't get overwhelmed by every move that
- 37:42Speaker 1: every team that they might possibly face has done. I mean,
- 37:45Speaker 1: you know, I just I haven't given up yet. I
- 37:47Speaker 1: think that this is a young team. I'm not depressed.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I think they have some pieces to build around. I
- 37:52Speaker 1: don't think that they were going to rebuild the team
- 37:54Speaker 1: in this free agency last week and a half to
- 37:56Speaker 1: make them all of a sudden on par with all
- 37:58Speaker 1: those teams. I don't think, even if you have all
- 38:00Speaker 1: the money in the world, that you were going to
- 38:01Speaker 1: do that, and it was a lot. So I think
- 38:03Speaker 1: you have to trust the process a little bit. Previous
- 38:05Speaker 1: shows you said yourself. They're just going to be hiring
- 38:08Speaker 1: bodies and filling out the roster they have to, you know,
- 38:11Speaker 1: like like Fred brought it up. He's like, hey, listen,
- 38:13Speaker 1: we're sitting at this number right now. You know, there's
- 38:16Speaker 1: gonna be corresponding moves. When everybody was moaning and groaning
- 38:19Speaker 1: about how we weren't signing anybody. No, we just weren't
- 38:22Speaker 1: signing the cream of the crop or the elise you
- 38:24Speaker 1: know of what was off right. That's why I'm trying.
- 38:28Speaker 1: This is why I'm trying to explain what I'm saying. Guys,
- 38:30Speaker 1: just listen to this point. What I'm saying is if
- 38:32Speaker 1: you take last year's offseason and the people that we
- 38:36Speaker 1: you know, the cast that we that we you know,
- 38:38Speaker 1: took from free agency, you mirror that with with what's
- 38:41Speaker 1: coming up in the draft because of those moves and
- 38:43Speaker 1: the people we've decided to let go and the people
- 38:46Speaker 1: we've decided to resign. And I'm and I'm with Paul,
- 38:49Speaker 1: I can't believe that we, you know, took Devin mccordy
- 38:52Speaker 1: on for nine million when it should have been either
- 38:54Speaker 1: not at all or six or you know, Slater I
- 38:58Speaker 1: would have been the different one and so forth. Yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 1: a million dollars, not at all. Don't don't overreact. I'm
- 39:03Speaker 1: not saying that's the difference at all. I mean I
- 39:04Speaker 1: actually think that, you know, that's a little bit insane
- 39:07Speaker 1: you'd say that, But I'm just trying to explain that
- 39:09Speaker 1: because of those moves, instead of setting up Matt Jones
- 39:13Speaker 1: with weaponry in a year that I feel, and I'm
- 39:16Speaker 1: entitled to my opinion, i feel like we're not going
- 39:18Speaker 1: to compete this year at a high level instead of
- 39:21Speaker 1: getting him some chemistry with some offensive weapons, which is
- 39:24Speaker 1: the game is absolutely geared to now, Instead we're going
- 39:27Speaker 1: to be forced to draft the corner because you don't resign.
- 39:30Speaker 1: JC and guys, I'm on board, was saying, Hey, our
- 39:33Speaker 1: cornerbacks and in defensive backfield, wasn't you know, uh, insanely
- 39:38Speaker 1: you know, massively talented as it were. Yeah, but you're
- 39:41Speaker 1: just we struggled, You're you're but in your what you're
- 39:44Speaker 1: saying is that the Patriots probably aren't going to get
- 39:47Speaker 1: a wide receiver in the draft that will be able
- 39:50Speaker 1: to grow with Mac. And you're also saying that Hunter
- 39:53Speaker 1: Henry and get it either Hunter Henry and Bourne aren't
- 39:57Speaker 1: going to get any better than they were last year,
- 40:00Speaker 1: you know. So I'm not saying no, but because I'll
- 40:03Speaker 1: say they will, yeah, I mean. And so what I'm
- 40:08Speaker 1: saying is if if those things happen, then your outlook
- 40:11Speaker 1: is a little bit brighter. My main concern going into
- 40:14Speaker 1: this year is the defense. That's why I think at
- 40:17Speaker 1: this moment, I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you right now,
- 40:20Speaker 1: at this moment, they're an eight and nineteen, you know,
- 40:23Speaker 1: and that's what I'm thinking. Yeah, that's what I'm saying,
- 40:26Speaker 1: you know, And it's because of the defense, you know.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I want that's right. Then I think eight nine is
- 40:31Speaker 1: awfully optimistic. If you're right, if you're right, yeah, yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: Like if the offense is the problem, then I could
- 40:39Speaker 1: say you can squeak out eight nine. But if you're
- 40:41Speaker 1: telling me they gotta win eight games because they got
- 40:42Speaker 1: to outscore every team, right, that's gonna be tough to do.
- 40:46Speaker 1: But I think we have the weaponry for that. Chris.
- 40:48Speaker 1: I don't think you're alone in your outlook on this team,
- 40:52Speaker 1: because we get a lot of emails from people from fans,
- 40:55Speaker 1: and a lot of them are just I rate. I know,
- 40:58Speaker 1: but We've gone through this before in the off seat. Sure,
- 41:00Speaker 1: but I think it's true. Well but wait, wait, but
- 41:02Speaker 1: hold on, this is different because you look at you
- 41:06Speaker 1: look at it. You don't have Tom Brady and look
- 41:08Speaker 1: at how last season ended. No, I know there's a
- 41:10Speaker 1: very bitter taste in a lot of people's mouths. There's
- 41:14Speaker 1: that team, you know, faltered. There's no getting around they
- 41:17Speaker 1: lost four the last five games and in two games
- 41:20Speaker 1: they didn't even force a punt. Right, there's no getting
- 41:23Speaker 1: around that, right. And I think when you couple that
- 41:25Speaker 1: with the lack of of you know, big headline type moves,
- 41:30Speaker 1: which I think you were unrealistic to expect those anyway.
- 41:33Speaker 1: But I think that's that's where a lot of people
- 41:35Speaker 1: are right now. They're feeling very congratulations to Chrissy just
- 41:38Speaker 1: broke the all time PEU record with a call of
- 41:41Speaker 1: about you know, it's not just turned the show over, Chris.
- 41:45Speaker 1: It's not like he was hemming. Yeah, it's not like
- 41:48Speaker 1: he was hemming and hawing. He had something to say. No, no, no,
- 41:51Speaker 1: I wasn't making fun of the call. I was making
- 41:53Speaker 1: fun of you moving it along, Listen. I have a
- 41:56Speaker 1: good feel for things you do. You have a feel
- 41:58Speaker 1: for the league for and the call us you do. Um,
- 42:01Speaker 1: I agree, it's not the emails. Yeah. I think the
- 42:05Speaker 1: phrase that he used about being a mess I think
- 42:08Speaker 1: is a little strong. Yeah, But I think most of
- 42:10Speaker 1: what he said. I think that a lot of people
- 42:12Speaker 1: have sort of glossed over, and I think there is
- 42:16Speaker 1: a notion and this might be a good time to
- 42:18Speaker 1: get to my Scott Pioli. Oh yes, can't wait. Oh okay, Uh,
- 42:22Speaker 1: you know Scott Pioli I think was on NFL network
- 42:25Speaker 1: last night. Oh, this is quote so he says, no, no,
- 42:28Speaker 1: that's Warren Buffett quote. But he said last year, the
- 42:32Speaker 1: entire league was in a depressed market, so the Patriots
- 42:35Speaker 1: went out and spent two years of free agency money.
- 42:37Speaker 1: You look at the financial terms of those deals a
- 42:40Speaker 1: year later and they look very good. So they've done
- 42:43Speaker 1: some of this year's free agency last year. Okay, And
- 42:47Speaker 1: I would say that the premise of what he said,
- 42:50Speaker 1: I would largely agree with. We all talked about it
- 42:53Speaker 1: when Mike said earlier the show, we all looked at
- 42:55Speaker 1: it the day before. We have no idea what to
- 42:57Speaker 1: expect heading in. We got we got sports up to
- 43:02Speaker 1: our shows. They monitor there's no question. Um, I think
- 43:07Speaker 1: the premise of you know, you spent one hundred and
- 43:10Speaker 1: seventy five million and guaranteed money last year, no one
- 43:13Speaker 1: thought they were going to even approach that this year. No,
- 43:16Speaker 1: I have no issues with that whatsoever. It's what he
- 43:18Speaker 1: says in the middle here that that bugs me. And
- 43:20Speaker 1: this kind of dovetails into what Chris's problem is about. Yeah,
- 43:24Speaker 1: you spent a lot of money on free agents, but
- 43:26Speaker 1: not necessarily guys that are going to be major impacts
- 43:29Speaker 1: on wins and losses. And he says, the Patriots went
- 43:32Speaker 1: out and spent two years of free agency. You look
- 43:34Speaker 1: at the financial terms of those deals a year later,
- 43:37Speaker 1: and they look very good. And I want to read
- 43:39Speaker 1: you some of the financial terms in year two when
- 43:41Speaker 1: you guys, tell me which ones you think you feel
- 43:44Speaker 1: really good about. Nelson Aghiloor is a base salary of
- 43:48Speaker 1: nine million this year, a cap hit of fourteen point nine.
- 43:51Speaker 1: You feel real, to quote Paoli, very good about that.
- 43:55Speaker 1: But maybe, but we'd have to know what he's talking about.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Maybe he's saying that after this year they can get
- 44:00Speaker 1: out of all then that would be year three. Yeah, no,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I know, but year two he's talking about year two. Right,
- 44:05Speaker 1: he's looking at the year two of those deals knowing that, Yeah,
- 44:10Speaker 1: you know these guys like this is what this is
- 44:13Speaker 1: year two, This is two years of free agency. Yeah,
- 44:15Speaker 1: so I can't give him year three. No, I understand,
- 44:17Speaker 1: but I need to hear him explain exactly what he means.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Who because Paul's gonna no because if I mean he
- 44:27Speaker 1: talked about two years, he didn't talk about a third year.
- 44:29Speaker 1: He's not talking Those contracts don't look better today, last year,
- 44:35Speaker 1: this year. But he said two years of free agency money.
- 44:38Speaker 1: They look worse now, not better. Matthew Judon's cap hit,
- 44:42Speaker 1: his sixteen and a half million fin Okay, I don't
- 44:46Speaker 1: feel better about that than that I did. That's what
- 44:48Speaker 1: guys cost. They paid money to acquire players. They didn't
- 44:53Speaker 1: acquire them at bargain rates. No, I get it, Like
- 44:57Speaker 1: Hunter Henry's cap hit is fifteen million, that's what guys cost.
- 45:02Speaker 1: But but does he mean that after two years? We
- 45:05Speaker 1: know that you can get out of these in your
- 45:08Speaker 1: in your things, doesn't matter if they can get out
- 45:10Speaker 1: do they have? I don't like that, So that makes
- 45:12Speaker 1: it a good signing if I can get out of
- 45:14Speaker 1: it next year, we'll no like if they don't need
- 45:16Speaker 1: players to help me win. If they don't work out
- 45:18Speaker 1: after two years, you're not stuck, Fred, I don't know.
- 45:21Speaker 1: No one has ever been stuck. Can we just eliminate
- 45:23Speaker 1: the stuck? That's not that's not Paoli's argument, and that's
- 45:27Speaker 1: not my argument. My argument is, do these contracts look
- 45:30Speaker 1: better today than they did last year? They look the same, correct,
- 45:35Speaker 1: you know, so what is the point. Why are you
- 45:37Speaker 1: trying to buy a happy face on it? I need
- 45:39Speaker 1: him to explain it. I don't know. I just explained
- 45:42Speaker 1: it to you, but just what he said. But they
- 45:45Speaker 1: spent two years or free agent dollars in one and
- 45:48Speaker 1: these contracts look very good now they don't. They look
- 45:52Speaker 1: the same as they did last year. I don't think
- 45:54Speaker 1: that these are bad contracts for the most I mean,
- 45:57Speaker 1: you know, Godshaws is, but he stinks for ten point
- 46:00Speaker 1: two five million on the cap this year. Jonu Smith
- 46:04Speaker 1: thirteen point seven probably didn't get value there fourteen point nine.
- 46:07Speaker 1: But you know Jalen Mills. I think Jalen Mills is
- 46:10Speaker 1: fine at six point one million. Maybe he's also taught
- 46:13Speaker 1: the cap, maybe he's maybe he's comparing it to this
- 46:16Speaker 1: year's free agent tags, and you know what people are paying.
- 46:20Speaker 1: And he's saying, you know, because of inflation, these don't
- 46:22Speaker 1: look so bad, don't don't compare them to this year's
- 46:25Speaker 1: free agents. Then wait to see what the contract is
- 46:27Speaker 1: next year, and then you can compare apples to apples. Yeah,
- 46:31Speaker 1: I just I want I'd like to have him clarify
- 46:33Speaker 1: what he's talking about. Why does he think it looks
- 46:35Speaker 1: good because the Patriots did it? Oh? Come on, I
- 46:40Speaker 1: mean it's simple, friend, Yeah, I Patriots have set it
- 46:43Speaker 1: up this way, and everybody last year was trumpeting they
- 46:49Speaker 1: like you said that, like they had a plan for
- 46:51Speaker 1: the pandemic. Yeah, it worked out that way. They spent
- 46:53Speaker 1: a boatload of money, right, they took advantage of an opportunity.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Some of it worked, most of it didn't. I just
- 46:59Speaker 1: like to know what what team means, because I agree
- 47:01Speaker 1: with you, it's no better this year than it was
- 47:03Speaker 1: last year. It's but what does he mean by it's
- 47:06Speaker 1: worse this year? These cap numbers all went up. Well,
- 47:09Speaker 1: they knew because that's how free agency works. That's why
- 47:12Speaker 1: free agent teams that spend a lot and they get
- 47:15Speaker 1: that bump, You get that three win bump for and
- 47:19Speaker 1: it always goes back next year. That's part of the
- 47:21Speaker 1: reason it goes back, yeah, now because now you can't
- 47:25Speaker 1: do as the other part that people are not even
- 47:28Speaker 1: taken into consideration. Like I saw our friend who used
- 47:34Speaker 1: to work here, Kay Adams, used to work for Comcast Boston,
- 47:38Speaker 1: was in a little bit of a twisting match with
- 47:40Speaker 1: somebody who said, I don't see the Patriots as a
- 47:42Speaker 1: playoff team with this current roster, and she snapped back
- 47:45Speaker 1: at and said, well, this this current roster made the
- 47:47Speaker 1: playoffs last year. WHOA, what's the difference the competition? Correct, Yeah,
- 47:54Speaker 1: there's five teams that have vastly improved from last year
- 47:57Speaker 1: in your conference that you now have to compete with
- 48:00Speaker 1: that last year's level of talent won't be good enough.
- 48:03Speaker 1: I mean, you look at the Colts. They're a team
- 48:05Speaker 1: that were on the fringe. They beat your they beat
- 48:08Speaker 1: your bag in and we're one game away, and they improved.
- 48:12Speaker 1: It looks like I think Matt Ryan's a vast improvement
- 48:14Speaker 1: over Carson Wentz. Now they're they're a team. And that's
- 48:17Speaker 1: where people like Chris concern and listen, you know, I
- 48:21Speaker 1: love the Patriots, all right, I love me my Patriot.
- 48:23Speaker 1: But I was laughing yesterday when people were talking about
- 48:27Speaker 1: the schedule and automatically saying the Patriots are still better
- 48:31Speaker 1: than Miami. They weren't last game. They lost to them twice.
- 48:35Speaker 1: They haven't been the past two years. You know, there's
- 48:37Speaker 1: sixty three against the Patriots in the last nine. Now
- 48:40Speaker 1: you have to say and those One thing I'll say
- 48:46Speaker 1: is Flores is gone, and they have a first year
- 48:48Speaker 1: head coach, So maybe you could say that. But still
- 48:52Speaker 1: I might be a team that could be one that
- 48:54Speaker 1: really bites me in the ass at some point. I
- 48:56Speaker 1: think there's a chance they have an upgraded coach. I
- 48:59Speaker 1: think this guy impressed. I don't know why this guy really,
- 49:02Speaker 1: he just seems relaxed. He does now he hasn't played
- 49:05Speaker 1: a game. Maybe pressure. He's gonna be one of these
- 49:07Speaker 1: analytical too pool, too cool for school guys, and maybe
- 49:11Speaker 1: proves me all wrong. But I like the cut of
- 49:13Speaker 1: his gym. I like the way he presents himself with well,
- 49:20Speaker 1: I was talking to him, well not directly, he was
- 49:22Speaker 1: speaking you know, the whole coming other people, but I
- 49:25Speaker 1: had the same thing, and it was just the how
- 49:27Speaker 1: diametrically opposed he is to to most head coaches, especially
- 49:31Speaker 1: Bill Belichick. But you know, silly, funny, sarcastic, none of
- 49:35Speaker 1: the stuff that work, as long as we like to
- 49:41Speaker 1: sort of criticize, like, oh, there's another team that won
- 49:44Speaker 1: the offseason. There's a team that's that you know that
- 49:46Speaker 1: that have a good offense on paper, but you look
- 49:49Speaker 1: at the things that they did. Okay, So they signed
- 49:52Speaker 1: Cedric Wilson and traded for Tyreek Hill for two receivers
- 49:56Speaker 1: to go with Jalen Waddle. They resigned their own tight
- 49:59Speaker 1: end solid. He's a solid, fun, spectacular player than Mike Kasiki. No, no,
- 50:05Speaker 1: it's not Travis Kelsey and George Kittle. Okay. Then they
- 50:09Speaker 1: signed a left tackle in Tehran Armstead, which is a
- 50:14Speaker 1: little risky because he's got a bad knee. Okay, but
- 50:17Speaker 1: he's an excellent player if he can be, but not
- 50:20Speaker 1: without risk. And then they signed no, this guy's good. Oh.
- 50:27Speaker 1: And then they signed two running backs and where he
- 50:29Speaker 1: moistered in Chase Edmonds. And you might look at it insist, well,
- 50:35Speaker 1: you know, like collecting talent, you know, like Scott Pioli
- 50:38Speaker 1: has not is not a way to do it. These
- 50:41Speaker 1: are guys that are very specifically catered to the way
- 50:45Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel wants to play offense. They want to use that,
- 50:49Speaker 1: they want to use that San Francisco method of running
- 50:52Speaker 1: the ball. You need better offensive lineman to run the
- 50:55Speaker 1: ball better than they do with speed, Guys that can
- 50:59Speaker 1: gash you get onto the perimeter. And you have a
- 51:02Speaker 1: quarterback who was limited physically and it's not going to
- 51:06Speaker 1: be bombing away. So unique guys that can take short
- 51:09Speaker 1: throws and make big plays unless you use Teddy Bridgewater
- 51:12Speaker 1: and that's what they well, he's a weak armed guy.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Same thing. Then you have Teddy two gloves. Might not
- 51:17Speaker 1: need two gloves in Miami. Um, So you have a
- 51:21Speaker 1: lot of guys on paper that really fit what he
- 51:25Speaker 1: wants to do offensively. And maybe I'm buying in a
- 51:28Speaker 1: little bit too much. I think that they've improved, and
- 51:31Speaker 1: I think this guy might be an improved And and
- 51:34Speaker 1: they beat you twice last year. Yeah, and it's not
- 51:36Speaker 1: like they beat you twice, but they upset you both times,
- 51:39Speaker 1: and you have five games better than them. You made
- 51:42Speaker 1: the playoffs over them because they lost in Week seventeen,
- 51:47Speaker 1: right right to Jacksonville to Tennessee, Tennessee. I'm sorry, and
- 51:52Speaker 1: I mean, you know, not to pile on, but I
- 51:56Speaker 1: mean San Francisco when they came here with that offensive
- 51:59Speaker 1: Mike McDaniel twenty twenty, that wasn't pretty. I think over
- 52:02Speaker 1: the years too, when you've seen this like Shanahan Tree,
- 52:05Speaker 1: I'm thinking directly of twenty fifteen against the Broncos with
- 52:08Speaker 1: this wide zone stuff. You know that that's what I
- 52:10Speaker 1: worry about with this front seven. If they can't contain
- 52:13Speaker 1: that running game, it's going to open up everything for
- 52:15Speaker 1: the Dolphins. So I'm with your friend. I'm glad you
- 52:17Speaker 1: brought that up because I made a note of it.
- 52:19Speaker 1: I'm like, I can't believe this is like a debate
- 52:21Speaker 1: right now of like, wells Miami's better. I'm like, have
- 52:23Speaker 1: you guys been watching the games like there just looking
- 52:26Speaker 1: at the fact that Miami didn't make the playoffs and
- 52:28Speaker 1: you're dead right now again, how much of that was
- 52:31Speaker 1: Brian Flores knowing Bill Belichick and all that stuff. Maybe
- 52:34Speaker 1: a little bit factor, Yeah, it's a factor, Yeah, And
- 52:36Speaker 1: I do I do think that was part of it.
- 52:38Speaker 1: And listen, I think it's just as wrong to just
- 52:42Speaker 1: pencil the Patriots in for eleventh or twelfth in the conference.
- 52:46Speaker 1: They may end up finishing there. I don't know, but
- 52:48Speaker 1: my guess is out of the group of Miami, Indianapolis, Denver, Cleveland, Tennessee,
- 52:57Speaker 1: pit Wow, Pittsburgh. Yeah, I'm talking about the group that
- 53:02Speaker 1: was liking you the playoffs or behind you. Yeah, they've
- 53:05Speaker 1: all improved on paper, right, don't forget the Chargers. The
- 53:09Speaker 1: likelihood of all of those teams hitting and being great
- 53:13Speaker 1: next year, it's very small, right, just like hitting all
- 53:17Speaker 1: your free agents. You know, Deshaun Watson might get suspended,
- 53:19Speaker 1: miss six games, then be rusty for another six games,
- 53:22Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, it's it's really twenty three
- 53:25Speaker 1: that Cleveland's going to be back in the picture. You know,
- 53:27Speaker 1: Russell Wilson, who knows, Maybe he just doesn't acclimate to
- 53:30Speaker 1: Denver and it's not the same form there. Something will
- 53:32Speaker 1: happen now, someone will work. You know, two or three
- 53:36Speaker 1: of those teams. Well, it's just as unrealistic to expect
- 53:39Speaker 1: all of them to bust out, right, But like, I
- 53:42Speaker 1: think it's wrong to just say, well, have fun in
- 53:45Speaker 1: twelfth plays Patriots, Like, no, there's all kinds of games
- 53:49Speaker 1: that have to be played before, not really Patriots related,
- 53:51Speaker 1: but I just think about what the team that finishes
- 53:54Speaker 1: last in the AFC West, what are they thinking? Because
- 53:56Speaker 1: every one of those teams right now feels like, all right,
- 53:58Speaker 1: we made good steps, we're gonna compete. But one of
- 54:00Speaker 1: those one of those four teams last place? Yeah, yeah, weird. Yeah,
- 54:05Speaker 1: But the question is at what record? Yeah? Is it
- 54:08Speaker 1: last place in the playoffs? Are you ten and seven
- 54:11Speaker 1: in last play It would be unprecedented to have an
- 54:13Speaker 1: entire division to make the playoffs, but it's possible. All right,
- 54:18Speaker 1: let's get back to the phones. We'll go to Melvin
- 54:21Speaker 1: and Tennessee. Sweet kids. All right, I had that question
- 54:27Speaker 1: not really a Patriot player, but don will cry a
- 54:31Speaker 1: little bit of a projection, but I wanted you out
- 54:33Speaker 1: to rank these three players. Those three players will be
- 54:38Speaker 1: Michael Vick, Cam Newton, and Lamar Jackson, and added at
- 54:44Speaker 1: three will any of them make the Hall of Fame?
- 54:48Speaker 1: I don't really remember Michael Vick that well, I was
- 54:50Speaker 1: too young. I'm really trying to young. Well, Lamar Jackson's
- 54:55Speaker 1: too early to tell for Hall of Fame probably, but
- 54:58Speaker 1: the other two will not. Yeah, I would say that's awesome.
- 55:01Speaker 1: I'd say I want to say vic I don't know
- 55:04Speaker 1: if that's stupid, but that's that's when first comes in mind.
- 55:06Speaker 1: I think Vic had Of the three, I think he
- 55:08Speaker 1: had the most potential. Yeah, but the injuries, yeah, I think.
- 55:11Speaker 1: But how about if we go by peak peak all three,
- 55:14Speaker 1: because they're all three m v P. I mean Jackson
- 55:17Speaker 1: won an MVP. I don't think Vic did. He don't
- 55:20Speaker 1: think so, but I think peak Vick was the best. Yeah,
- 55:24Speaker 1: he could run, he could and I think of the
- 55:27Speaker 1: of the three, study Jackson might have the best chance
- 55:30Speaker 1: to get in the Hall of Fame. I just think
- 55:32Speaker 1: Vic and Jackson that is rare to me. I just
- 55:37Speaker 1: never seen a quarterback with that kind of speed to
- 55:40Speaker 1: just make everyone else on the field look like they're standing.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Cam Newton is going to get Hall of Fame consideration.
- 55:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you that right now. McClellan not in
- 55:50Speaker 1: remembering people's names though. Yeah, I don't know if he
- 55:52Speaker 1: gets in, but he's going to mean when you combine
- 55:55Speaker 1: the rushing totals with what he did as a passer
- 55:58Speaker 1: for you know, ten years, he is going to get consideration.
- 56:01Speaker 1: What of our listeners crazy when the Patriots resigned Cam
- 56:03Speaker 1: Newton last year or this year's free agency performance. I
- 56:07Speaker 1: think what's driving Patriots fans more crazy right now is
- 56:11Speaker 1: less to do about the Patriots and much more to
- 56:13Speaker 1: do about everybody else. Yeah, and they feel like they're
- 56:16Speaker 1: waving as the parade walk goes by, Like Bill says,
- 56:19Speaker 1: right right, Why can't we get some of those jealousy? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
- 56:23Speaker 1: they're afraid, yeah, afraid of those other teams. I think
- 56:26Speaker 1: we can now when I like the debate, yeah, I mean,
- 56:31Speaker 1: obviously no real answer, but I'm with Mike. I think
- 56:33Speaker 1: Michael Vick is Pete Vick was Todd, North Carolina. What's up, Todd? Hey?
- 56:38Speaker 1: The show started off hot to cold, mister Parillo. I
- 56:41Speaker 1: liked Chris's call, and of course the York comment about
- 56:44Speaker 1: the Patriots man zone talking about some sort of personal
- 56:47Speaker 1: grooming add or something. I'm not sure I want to
- 56:49Speaker 1: groom your man's zone. Yes, So my question is, I'm
- 56:53Speaker 1: actually as I was last call, and I'm actually again
- 56:57Speaker 1: looking forward to the season. I think it's going to
- 56:59Speaker 1: be a building year. But how how how set in
- 57:03Speaker 1: stone are the contracts for the veterans that we do
- 57:05Speaker 1: have right now? So, say somebody plays better than they do,
- 57:09Speaker 1: is there any way to ask them to take a
- 57:10Speaker 1: step back, or can you release them or what can
- 57:13Speaker 1: you do with the guys? You can always release it
- 57:15Speaker 1: at Yeah, but what happens, like if you it depends
- 57:18Speaker 1: on how much of the contract is guaranteed. The beauty
- 57:22Speaker 1: the beauty of the salary cap in the NFL, right,
- 57:24Speaker 1: really very few guaranteed contracts, you know. Well, it's becoming
- 57:27Speaker 1: more prevalent. But every every contracts different. So if it's
- 57:30Speaker 1: spread out two more years, all that money that was
- 57:34Speaker 1: you know, allocated in those other years would come to
- 57:37Speaker 1: fruition in that one year and you'd have to make
- 57:40Speaker 1: adjustments to keep under the cap. You know. Well, I
- 57:44Speaker 1: like the fact that we're kicking the tires on Butler
- 57:47Speaker 1: and that we've got but they bought the car. Well,
- 57:53Speaker 1: I still think that he's just a something could like
- 57:57Speaker 1: you said, something could happen that he gets relieved if
- 58:00Speaker 1: it doesn't make it out, Because that was kind of
- 58:01Speaker 1: related to my questions. I think they're trying to be
- 58:04Speaker 1: encouraging to him. Oh they could release him without any damage. Yeah, okay, Yeah,
- 58:09Speaker 1: again that's a that's that's a it's a good move.
- 58:11Speaker 1: And I think that that wasn't a really big price
- 58:13Speaker 1: to pay for him, and he's if he's got any ability,
- 58:16Speaker 1: Like if you have to cut him, that's just like
- 58:19Speaker 1: blowtorching money. Yeah, like they have to pay him, like
- 58:22Speaker 1: he got something guaranteed. Yeah yeah, okay, oh yeah, but
- 58:26Speaker 1: but you got abilitating Yeah. Unless he doesn't play, he's
- 58:31Speaker 1: going to be the starter on you know, on the
- 58:34Speaker 1: Patriots at one of the cornerback spots, unless he decides
- 58:37Speaker 1: I don't want to play anymore like he did last year.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Well yeah, but then I think they owe him the
- 58:42Speaker 1: money if you playing back into retire. No, if he retired,
- 58:45Speaker 1: I think you would have to forfeit any guaranteed money
- 58:47Speaker 1: that you see it. That's right, Okay, well let's see.
- 58:50Speaker 1: Then again, I think it's a low risk move, and
- 58:52Speaker 1: I think that they're again I don't if these people
- 58:56Speaker 1: start talking about playoffs that are calling in, I'm gonna
- 58:58Speaker 1: be pretty sad. And I actually kind of felt bad
- 59:01Speaker 1: for a deuced other show where the gentleman came in
- 59:05Speaker 1: and got him really good and get nothing. Brian. Yeah yeah, Brian,
- 59:10Speaker 1: he's good, he's good. He's good. It was fun. Don't
- 59:12Speaker 1: feel bass still scared work, But you know, I think
- 59:17Speaker 1: I'm again. I'm you know, I know Eric will probably
- 59:20Speaker 1: hate this, but I'm more and more fallen Eric's ideology
- 59:23Speaker 1: the way he looks at it. You know, this is
- 59:24Speaker 1: another building season and we took a bit of a
- 59:26Speaker 1: shot last year. But where the world sucks? Kill trees,
- 59:34Speaker 1: Save animals, Kill trees, Eric job, Yeah, thanks Todd, best
- 59:40Speaker 1: line ever show. All right, We're gonna take a break

- 1:09:19Speaker 1: edu And now great moments in history. My father had
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: a hardware store in Brooklyn, Okay, in the city, and
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: I go in there and work. When I was a
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: little kid, first grade, they put me on the subway
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: to get sandwiches for people. And I go to this
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: place that they you know, and I'd go get the
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: sandwiches for everybody and bring them back first grade or
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: on the subway by myself with money in my pocket.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Oh god, I mean, that's great. That tops me, you know,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: that tops me. It's like you would never do that now,
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: and I can understand that, but back then you could
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: do it. So you went from all that to East Dennis.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: It was that was that crazy transition for you, going
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: form like a city to living in the middle of nowhere.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Oh no, he worked in the city. We lived in
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: the suburbs of New Jersey. Yeah, yeah, yeah, knowing how
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: dead it is down there the subway. We didn't always
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: have a great reputation back then either. Though. Oh maybe
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: my father didn't like me. I don't know, but maybe
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: he won't come home back. That's another great moment from
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: all right, welcome back to Patriots. I'm filtering eight five

- 1:10:40Speaker 1: What's up, William? What's going on for it? How you
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: feel good? Good? Okay? Hey? Uh when you were talking Tuesday,
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: because I was listening to you doing playing the playground,
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: I'm playing the play I was susting in like I
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: could have hold on as long as I could, but
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: I had to go because I was, you know, I
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: was working basically, but I was still listening to you
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: yall at the same time. Okay, okay, um, so let me.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: Let me get right to it then. Okay, Well I'm
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: gonna start with Mike first. Mike, I gotta leave off
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: when I net off with you last time. I need
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: to clear up something with you. I don't know what
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: favorite Patriot fan you think I am, but I had
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: never accused Patriots on filtered for uh talking up about
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Tom Brady leaving. I've never done that. I don't know
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: who we calling a big accusing y'all, but it ain't me, man, Okay,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: because you went on because you went off last. I
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: mean you just went in on me, and I'm just like,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: wait a minute, I just accuse you of I don't
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: even know what you know who that was? We know
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: who who got time out the door. Okay. I mean
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Tom did a little thing on his own, but we
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: know who was the back end on that. Okay, So
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna leave that far, all right. But that's that
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: and Eric, also what you's like, Look when I asked,
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: when I asked, um Mike that question about Nelson anguard
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: that wasn't retaining so much to me, Like you put
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: it back on me, and I was like, they know
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: what enough scenario is? I mean, I wouldn't have got
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: him or anything, but it was spoiling. It was for
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: Mike do because Mike want him Mike. I guess Mike
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: said he's going to be good in this second year.
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: So I just want to hear what Mike was going
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: to stay on that and you know that that was
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: it on that one. But my last take to this
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill thing o, my god, and y'all said the
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: talking about well Jamison Williams would be good in Kansas state. Well,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Kansas state, Well, excuse me, wait a minute, this is
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: this is this is a Patriots podcast. Wait, I mean,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: I know y'all just speaking generally, but what do y'all
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: want to see for the Patriots here? I mean, we
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: just missed out on on some big names. Well, no,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: I think that the idea with with Jamison Williams that
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: they could afford to wait a year, that that I
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: think was the point, you know, and we can't. No,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: he could have want But I think people are saying
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: here that you need you need to you know, they
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: already have Waddle over there and now they have Tyree Hill.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: We don't have a first wide receiver. That's the difference.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: And I would just look at it for the weapons
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: for Mac Jones. That whole argument like if you're gonna
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: like go status quo now in year two, so now
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: maybe you're hoping to do something in year three, so
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: that would be like the first real look at what
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden after years three, you
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: got to decide on Mac Jones, like I want to
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: I want to take a bit, Yeah, I want to
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: take advantage of these years to see if I need
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: a quarterback or not. Yeah, without saying, well, I might
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: need a quarterback, but we don't know because we don't
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: have any weapons around them. Yeah. But and and my
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: thing that you got him want a rookie deal for
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: four years, well, like I mean, like the option is
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: not really you got to hit on it. This is
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: the drag. You can't be playing a round like you
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: got Tom Brady back there. You think you're gonna do whatever,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: then you got to hit on this. Yeah, because you
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: wanted to see what Mac can do. I mean, if
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: I'm not thinking that's that's Paul's point. Yeah, And it's
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: not fair to Mac. I don't want to be making
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: a judgment on him without any weapons. And I would
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: agree with that too. I mean, I've been a little
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: critical of Mac at times, but that's a point in lack.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: He deserves to be he deserves to have some guys
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: to throw I ushould say, William like, like, the last
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: couple of years they didn't pick a receiver and we
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: were pissed about it, and if they and if they
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: don't do it this year, I'm gonna be pissed about it.
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: I don't really care about Tyreek Hill as a patriot, Like,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: I want the guy here now, and I'm one hundred
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: percent with you. Get a guy, a young guy that
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: can develop with him, and if he's already had some
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: experience with Mac, even better. But but I'm one hundred
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: percent with you, and you know, the free agents, though,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I'm like, I want a guy who's gonna be here.
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: I want to draft him four years. You line right
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: up with Mac, and you know that I think is
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: what gives him the opportunity. So I'm totally with you
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: on that, right. Can I make one more? One more stakement?
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: We got got many callers or not? Gay Week? Okay,
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: you got Tyreek Hill Parker. Okay, I mean we already
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: got a w were about to build. But man, you
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: got Cedric Wilson would be another guy I think from
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: the Cowboys too. Thing is, can you see Michael Butler's
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: sticking Tyreek Hill or he would get torched. No, Jonathan
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Jones got a lockdown. But I joke, I joke, I
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: don't know if anyone. I don't know any remember don't
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: get matted the twenty eighteen AFC Championship game. But Jonathan
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Jones and Devin mccordy shut down tam defense team defense.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: I mean they about thirty one points and a half
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: in doing so. But yeah, I mean, be that as
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: it may. Tyreek Kill didn't have anything to do with
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: team defense. Might get a guy that can go Thanks Kill,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: don't worry about it. Let's go to Speed and Friends.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Now he spe'm die laughing, Mike U. The idea that
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Eric dideology include print everything. I mean, it's funny because
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: it's true. Just to be clear, it's print p r
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: an T. Yes, what do you think you said? I
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: think Speed thinks you're saying prince like as like royalty.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Well it's that too. No, No, he loves purple rain.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: He's okay print everything. Yeah, I would have also accepted
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: up by number right. It was it was a tough
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: little Eric Rolodex. There of jokes to throw it quickly
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: that much time. He just won with a quick and
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: easy one sweaters only with Butler. You know he's thirty two.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: It's another older player that's likely to take a roster spot. Um,
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: and I was thinking about the running it back debate,
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: which is kind of splits you guys, U two against two.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: I think, um to whether that's what's maybe happening. I think, um,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I wonder if if it's happening, if it's because Bill
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: is prioritizing the Shula record, the all time record over
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: the long term interest of the team, which I know,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Mike you don't agree with that, but I'm I just
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: want to consider in two guys, think like you can
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: win some games and be a middling team with a
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: strong kind of veteran middle class, Like you can get
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: good enough to use in the first round of the playoffs,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: but maybe you don't become like elite down the road
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: when your young quarterback doesn't know. I know, but if
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Bill thinks that bring it back Malcolm Butler and mccordy
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: is gonna get him Shoola's record, then he's not as
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: smart as I think you know, but you know that's
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: that's I think you miss SPIE's point. I think what
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: he's saying is by not signing those guys, you might
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: not be as good this year. So instead of winning
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: eight games, which is you, I'm going to use your number,
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: maybe he only wins five. Yeah. Well, and I think
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: SPI is saying he knows he's not good enough to
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: win eleven games and be a contender, but he'd rather
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: win eight than five with the veterans. Yeah. And maybe
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: the reason that he'd rather do that, Spee. I'm sorry
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: if I'm speaking for you enough, I'm not articulating your thoughts.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: But the reason he's doing that, according to SPI, is
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: that he's got his eye on the record. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: you got my thoughts completely right. I was, I was
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: even gonna stay. Bill doesn't want to lose three more
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: games this and next year by relying on developing players,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: even if doing though it ultimately would be like the
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: road you've got to take to get to the best team, right,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: and that that's the part I would need to be
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: convinced of that by playing or signing these eyes, you're
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: holding other guys back. Yeah. I mean, I don't feel
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: like that. I know, but you don't have anybody so
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: you I mean, would it make you feel better to
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: just put Sean Wade out there because he's young, and
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: feel better to sign like a twenty five year old cornerback.
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: But they can do that, and they choose not to.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: And I don't think they choose not to because oh,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: we have to sign Malcolm Butler. I don't think that's
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: you know, okay again, but you keep dismissing the money
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: that they've spent. I'm suggesting taking some of the money
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: they spent and using it on other people. I get
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: that they're not going to spend additional money, and I'm okay,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: I'm saying they could if they wanted to, you know,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. I'm like, and they're saying they can't.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: So we can say all we want. They should have
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: an unlimited budget, but they don't. Well I'm not saying
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: that either. You know, they don't. They've decided how much
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: money they're gonna spend this year in free agency. I
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: don't think they've spent it wisely, Like, what's what did
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: you have? The guarantees? The other Mike, you did some
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: research last year one hundred and sixty three million guarantee.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: This year, they've given twenty five, not including I would
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: have rather given the twenty five in different ways, Like
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I'm not saying they should be spending fifty, which you
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: can make an argument that they should be. Yeah, but
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: I'm okay that they've sort of pulled back from last year.
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: I just don't like the way they've done it. All right, thanks,
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: be Let's go to Eldred in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: He so look out, this ought to be a good one.
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: I'm right right in my yard. I guess I'm gonna
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: be uh in your yard. We offered a couple of
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: hours about another hours, so I'm happy about that part
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: earlier in the day. But Paul, like I said, I
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: don't know what happens to the last couple of years,
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: but we've been agreeing too much. I used to like
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: argue with you a lot. I tend to bring that
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: out of the rest. Were agreeing too much. But that's
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: the point, Paul, that's the point you made on that
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: last comment. It isn't It isn't how you spending, is
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: who you spent their own you know, due thirty ye old.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: Like I said, we want to be competitive. I understand
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: if the fan and everything I know he used to coach,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: he's a gem. But man, I mean, like I said,
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: if you keep looking like y'all said, everything looked good
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: on paper, don't look that good. You know, you know
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: they might want this on paper. But hell, the Rams
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: did it last year and then what did it did?
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: It went super Bowl? You know, we did it one year,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: we went to the Super Bowl. Yeah, you know, it's funny, Eldred.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: You know, I wonder what you guys think of this too.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: But do you think that maybe like the Rams, doing
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: it that way and succeeding has sort of contributed in
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: the way it's this offseason for other teams. Yeah? Yeah,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: I think there's eight or nine teams without a first
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: round pick, not just the Rams, but Cincinnati. Cincinnati like hit,
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: they hit in the draft pick. They made a couple
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: of shrewd moves in free agency, like Trey Henderson, you know,
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: being one, and you could see how like small the
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: line is between fourth place and first place in a division. Yep, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: But they get in the right players though, that's the point. Yep,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: they get the right players. They help out. And I
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: don't care if nobody's said Robert Woods would have helped,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: would have Matt Jones out a lot more. But first
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Robert Wood. I think it was a sixth round. And
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: I'm like, I'll take I'll take Devin mccordy's nine million
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: and I'll use it on that like that. That's what
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: I'm trying to tell you. Now, you don't have to agree.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: I mean, everybody has their own, their own guys. I
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: would rather see what mac Jones can do. And if
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: and if it's Robert Woods, maybe it's not Robert. Maybe
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: it's maybe it's DJ Chark, you know, or you know,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: someone else, like it didn't have to be It didn't
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: have to be Alan Robinson. It's my point. There were
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: other guys that could have helped. I would have taken
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Cedric Wilson. Yeah, I would have taken the guy that
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: just went to the bills were talking jet. I don't
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: want somebody else, but you pay Agalore the highest thing,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: did you? You know? And like I said, it's no agglo.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I would have been that guy in Philly and oak
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: Oaky did had one good year. Yeah, and Philly, Philly,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: they wouldn't signing with the Philly with the Philly Stubb
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: they would so they said, ye, Blady was gone. No,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: I know, and there has been there was a lot
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: of emphasis placed on that one year. And I have
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: to say this, I'm not even gonna Mike. You were
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: all over that. I'm not either when they signed Aggalore
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: and you were talking about all the players that were
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: extended and if you're looking down like busting down the
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: field and yeah, yeah, that guy, like I said, cheez
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: about outside and I would love to get somebody for
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: mat But like I said, corners and stuff, I would
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: rather do that too, you know. Yeah. But it's just
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: like it's it's something now, it's something. Okay, all right,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: thanks Aldred, appreciate the call. Let's go to Q in California,
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: Q and M is this James Bond Q Q. You
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: got a question going good, good, what's up? So let
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: me just go ahead and get into it. I think
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: what everybody's mentioning is that what are the patriots bringing?
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: Are what's attractive about the patriots right now? You know, like,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: what what's our movement? Have you seen? Have you seen
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: the foliage in the fall? It's quite pretty. I don't know,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: I mean that's I think that's part of it. That's
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: a narrative that's going around that they're not out attractive
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: destination right now, there's no Tom Brady. What percentage would
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: you say of the league right now is an attractive
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: destination percentage teams that are close to the teams that
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: are good. Yeah, well, but not only that. You can
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: still get the guys, but you have to pay for them. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: like they're not as Like, I agree with you. There's
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: a very small amount of teams that can get guys
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: for under under market value based on their their team,
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: the quality of their roster. I think that's a small handful. Yea.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: But the other teams have decided, you know, Likebood said,
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: we need to do something and I don't know if
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: it'll work, it might be might flame out horribly, But
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: they paid through the nose for an elite quarterback. There's
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: no there's no real attractiveness with our team. I know,
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: you know, there's no Tom Brady. You know, it's Matt
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: who really wants to come play with Mac Jones. You know, well,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: if you if you really love football you want to
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: play for you'll pay for them. Yeah yeah, I hear it? Okay, Q. Thanks? Um, Yeah,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I don't know. Um. That was so silly. I didn't
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: even bother biting for that. For the taking debate on
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: that you didn't like that one? I was that was
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: just silliness. Web Radio at patriot dot com. Is the
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: email address, uh, Mike in Bloomfield or New Brunswick, Bloomfield,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: New Brunswick, New Brunswick, Yeah, overseas. When I think New Brunswick,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: I think New Jersey. Oh yeah, wow. Not since Poo's
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: friend or lost his tale have I heard someone more
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: depressing than Paul On Tuesday's show. And just when I
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: thought I should call a helpline to look into getting therapy,
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: he ends up the show with, oh no, I don't
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: think that rules the Patriots out of the playoffs. Thanks guys,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: always entertaining like back in the day, when I don't
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: think it does, because I don't automatically tell other teams
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: that they're gonna it's gonna work. Right, It didn't really
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: work for the Patriots last year. That could happen for
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: other teams. Never know what's gonna never know. Gary's in Mesa, Arizona.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Is it possible that Bill has resigned? So many older
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: players because of the lack of coaches on the staff.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Mccordy with DBS, slated with special teams, White with the
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: running backs, and Joya with QBS. Well just a thought. Yes,
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: somebody brought that up, I think on a previous show.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: But that also was a cause for concern. Do you
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: don't have enough coaches who are experienced enough to handle
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: the squad? Two former head coaches? That's a good point. Yeah,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: I forgot about that. Everything that counts for multiple assistance, right.
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: He also says, with all the other AFC teams making
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: moves for offensive players, would anyone be opposed to going
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: all defense in the draft? Well, it hasn't been all offense,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Khalil Mack von Miller. Yeah you know JC Jackson, C Jackson,
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: who you know? Yeah him? But but that's I mean,
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: that's what the Chargers needed to do. Their offense is okay,
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: their defense was like twenty ninth in the league or
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: something like that. They needed help there. But no, I
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: would not want to draft all defense. No, I just
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: I not honestly, not to oversimplify it, but like, give
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: me two receivers, like I like, I think I could
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: be talked out of any other position on offense. But
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: I just I think that when you look at the league,
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: that's my response to all these moves and free agency
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: is that you need to start adding a little bit
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: more explosiveness to the offense. And you know, it's just
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: that's the direction of the league now, the way that
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: the game has played the rules. Defensively, it's hard to
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: stop teams, especially when they've got guys that can get
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: downfield and you know, make plays with the ball in
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: their hands. But otherwise, I take all like loading up
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: on on defense is a hard thing to do. Like,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: even if you have a great defense, it's hard, Like
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Mike said, it's hard to shut the teams down. And
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: they and even if they drafted a lot of defense lately,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: I mean, Barmore hit. But you know, you've also got
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Dugger Jennings. I mean there's been there's been some some
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: WILLI yeah, like you know, there's been significant draft capital
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: invested in a lot of these guys and I and
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: I still am wondering if this is in fact, all right,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: let's we're gonna we're gonna just let this play out
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: and see who emerges, and they're gonna get to play
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: and if we take our lumps, we take our lumps
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: now and at least now we know what we got
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: so that when if you want to extend them or
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: something like that, you you have a sense of what
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: you're dealing with before you get to year four and
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: oh hell, now now he's the star and you know,
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: how about we can't pay him mats in England. We
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: need to get a little bit more specific than the country,
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: like many listeners with how the off season is progressing,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: and want to get your views on where the Patriots
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: rank in the AFC. For me, when looking at the
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: talent and the roster, I would say today that they
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: are the thirteenth team, ahead of the Jets, Texans, and
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: probably Jags. What worries me more is that the Texans
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: and Jags look to have more resources to improve quickly.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: The Jags with Lawrence and pick number one and the
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: Texans with six firsts over the next three years. We
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: seem to be lacking talent and the means to improve quickly.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: A quick second question is how many difference makers do
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: you think the Patriots have currently on the roster. I
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: think the number is zero, but be interested if you
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: think some existing players are or can be on either
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: side of the ball. Truly, elite play is just saying
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: difference makers. Difference makers. I don't, I don't. I don't
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: think Barmore is there yet, but I think he could be. Yeah,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: he could be. You could be a guy you have
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: to game play. I think that you know, Dugger might
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: not be elite, but I think that if he plays
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: really well, he's a really useful piece in terms of
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: the NFL now and you know, kind of what Chun
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: did for a while, I think that's a useful role
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: to have. Um, but it's hard to be hard to
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: disagree with, you know, the overall talent assessment. But as
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: we've been saying, it's not one on paper, and you've
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: got to put the team together. You got to go
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: out and execute. And so that's why I remain often
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: I'm concerned like everybody is, but I also am not
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: panicking and overreacting right now because there's by my account,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: twenty two roster spots to still be filled. So there's
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: guys that are going to be coming in, and what
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: we're talking about right now is you know, it's going
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: to change. I think twelve might be a little steep
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: to project or the thirteam whatever he said, but eighth
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: right in the middle, eight nine, somewhere around there, but
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: fully understanding where he came up with thirteen. Yeah, because
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: I think you can make an argument for the twelve teams.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: You know, he said the Jets, the Texans, and the Jaguars. Ye, right,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: So that means he had everybody else ahead of them. Yep.
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: I don't think you can make an argument for any
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: of those three teams being better than the Patriots, but
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: you can for every other one. Sure, I don't you know,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: I don't think they'll all be better than the Patriots.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: But that's why that's why I say eight or nine. Yep,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: doesn't even have him been that high because he doesn't
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: have him in the mix. Jack's the first time I
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: said I was going to do it five times for
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: a show. We're very late in the show Jacket and Aba.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: With the reported signing of Malcolm Butler, the Patriots appeared
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: to be patching up holes in the roster with duct
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: tape and baling wires so that they'll not enter the
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: draft under a compulsion to select a particular position instead
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: of a great playmaker. Now I wonder whether Belichick is
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: planning to draft a defensive lineman in the first round,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: given that several very good ones will be available at
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: twenty one. What do you think? I don't mean, I
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: don't know. I can't rule anything out. I feel like
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: it's a little might be a little bit of a
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: hole there, um, depending on when the Georgia guys go.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: But I don't know. I don't know if it's a
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: great spot for for that kind of player. I think
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: you could get a more elite player at a different position,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: probably unless you know specific guys fall, which I don't.
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: I don't really think they will. Um, but I think
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: tackle baby guard Zion Johnson from BC, UM, maybe receiver.
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: I'm really more and more convincing myself. They're not going
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: to make a pick ron On. They're gonna trade it.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: Getting ready now for the inevitability here you're already giving
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: up the next show. He's going to have a lot
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: of printed material you'll see in this two hundred rank, Dussie,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: let me just get to page number here somewhere Mitch
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: and albany. I just saw a list that ranked mac
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: as the thirteenth best quarterback in the AFC. It had
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: two at eleven and Trevor Lawrence at twelve, just above Mac.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: I could see Lawrence based off pure talent above Mac.
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: But I don't think there's any way that Tua is
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: a better quarterback. I get that the Dolphins swept the Patriots,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: but I just feel like Tuah isn't that good. Wondering
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: how you guys feel about that? Ps When are the
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: Patriots going to trade for all pro? Andy Isabella. I
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: would rather have Mac than than Tua. I would too,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: but I don't think Tua is a total disaster. I mean,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: I think you're gonna find out right now. I mean,
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: I think they're they're the same, but I'll take Mac
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: because I think two is too small. But I also
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: think you're gonna find out about Mac pretty quickly too. Yeah.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: I mean it doesn't you know, And I fell up
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: that much. Yeah, over the next year. I mean they've
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: played very roughly the same amount of games, and I
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: just think Ta can't hold up. He's like, I mean,
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: what is he like, five ten, five eleven? Maybe? Like
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: I just think he's too small. Yeah, And I think
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: that's why I would take Mac over him. Let's get
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: back to the phones. Lars is in Pendleton semperfy Sprah Harvard. Hey,
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: thanks for having me on guys, you know I and
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: thank you Matt. Yeah, I had kind of a bit
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: of a revelation to the day. First of all, uh,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: I do think that there is a different deuce when
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: Paul is not in town. No question to suppress them.
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: There's so much dead air. You gotta talk like I
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: just shot at me. I actually just shot at me
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: for talking all the time, which is accurate by the way.
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: You know, you start talking on the show, and then
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: people call in they want to talk to you about
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: what you're talking about, and then before you know, you're
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: talking more, you know. But I mean, like I said,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: I literally tried. I couldn't wait to tell Paul about
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: the show. Burden. Well, you know, I actually enjoyed it,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: and I think it's because I was frankly getting a
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: little matted Paul. And then I realized Paul with me, Um,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: Paul is nothing if not consistent. Not it's not you,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: it's me. Yeah. Yeah, it's like someone else got the
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: Stockholm syndrome. And I told you, Lars, just because I
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: like you. The reason people are mad at me, it
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: is because I was proving correct Paul is like the
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: abusive father. And when he's not in the room, you know,
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: Duce lights up. You know, he's the child that you know.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: I'm like, like, is you gonna help me? I get
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: under people's skin? Because yeah, I was right, that's right.
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: But but Paul's like the great Santina. You know, once
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: he crashes, we'll all miss him. But like, you know,
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: while he's at revenge him but oh shot the goal
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: Harvard right back in a douce. Wow, nobody knows what
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: you're talking about. Talking about college. Talked about it earlier
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: in the shelf. I only have two space that I
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: like line play. Have a little respect for Lars. Sorry Lars,
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: Oh thank you? Yes, uh, But quick question for Paul.
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: I will ask for a clarification because he did take
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: kind of a snarky swipe at Fred's stance on you know,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: when you say I like Bill Belichick, I uh, I
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: believe in Bill Belichick and Bill we trust whatever. You know,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: it's implying that somebody else doesn't um and I think Paul,
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: when you said it, you said something like, you know,
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: I don't have a mom with build a coach, you know,
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: and almost as Eldred's theory, you know Bill the GM
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: is no. What what I'm saying is just because I
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: criticize Bill doesn't mean I don't want him ass my
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: coach and I don't want him miss my GM like.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: I just think that sometimes he makes mistakes that separates
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: me from the in Bill we trust crowd. I want him,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't want anybody else in
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: charge of my team. So I guess my clarification is,
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: you know, if Bill GM puts a bunch of older
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: linebackers back on the team on last year's roster, uh
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: is it is it build a coach that decides that
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: they're still better than say, hu ch and Jenny and
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: win a bitch. It's it's both. I'm willing to criticize
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: when I feel like there's a mistake being made, like
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: coaching GM whatever, I think. I think he's a better
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: coach than GM, but I think he's made plenty of
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: questionable mood Just the in game decisions last year drove
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: me crazy at times, and that's all coaching. That's not GM.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: You know, Kicking a fifty six yard field goal on
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: fourth and three in the pouring rain, to me is
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: not smart coaching. And I said it at the time,
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: so I got that's the I don't mean it to
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: be a snarky thing. I just I take offense when
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: someone says, oh, well, I trust Bill Belichick. I happen
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: to think Bill Belichick is I'm not going to play
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: any thought. And I'm not teasing Fred because I know
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Fred does that for effect. It's like I do it
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: for effect. But to say, like I trust Bill Belichick,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: I think Bill Belichick has proven that he's he's a
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: pretty good coach somehow implies that someone who's criticizing the
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: fact that he kicked a field goal, a fifty six
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: yard field goal in the rain, doesn't trust Bill Belichick,
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: doesn't want him as the coach. It's not Those two
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: things don't have to be the same, right, And I mean,
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: don't even say go ahead. Let's sorry, Oh well, I
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: didn't want to, you know, re it rate a previous argument.
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: But but I do think that that's different like questioning
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: in game decision worth in two it's the yard field goal, uh,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: is different than a roster decision or or a playing
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: time decision, where I've always maintained they have and Fred
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: and made this point. Ire eloquently. They have more information
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: than we do. They see the entire practice, they see
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: if Jennings is as good as van Noy on the
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: practice field for hours every day. But yet there's some
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: like fantasy out that's another great world, like anybody has
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: ever advocated for Jennings, Like that's another great example of
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. No, it's it's not Jennings over anybody.
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: It's Oochay over maybe bringing back Jamie Collins for a
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: third tour, Like those are the things that people criticize. Yeah, ye,
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: Like I'm sorry, but if that's not if that's not
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: in bounce, if that's not criticizeable to make up a
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: word like what are we doing why? Like we just
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: have a free country. I mean thank god that we
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: don't do that with the government. Like if you can't
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: question anything, then question be wrong. But I mean we
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: can go you know, and you'd be living in Russia.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: You can go live in Russia Korea to North Korea. Yeah,
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: I just I think it's really hard. I don't hold
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: Bill Belichick to perfection and I don't I don't be
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: but that's that articulates my point perfectly, Like it's really
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: hard and appreciate and say he's the greatest coach of
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: all time and not say but he's not without flaws.
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: That's how hard it is to do to manage a
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: roster of fifty three guys. But what happens is if
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: you say that I want to see what Ronnie Perkins
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: can do or I want to see what you have
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: to be under the well, they know more than you,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: no bleep, Like who is suggesting that they know more
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: than the coach? Ye? People have no problem saying Andy
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: Isabella is underutilized in Arizona. Do you think you know
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: more than Cliff Kingsbury too? Maybe, Like, just because he's
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: not as accomplished as Bill Belichick doesn't mean he's not
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: an NFL head coach who doesn't know what he's doing. Like,
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: so you can criticize that, but you can't criticize Bill.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: And the things that I get on are just you know,
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: when like I mean, I very specifically followed just the
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Patriots for you know, whatever it is now And but
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: when they go against the grain, when they go against
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: things that you've come to believe or that they've told you,
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: and they take a player that doesn't really fit what
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: they've told you or fit what they really need. And
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: I mean there's been plenty of examples of that over
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: the years of and I'm not even getting into like
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: when they take somebody that Will mel Kiper had him
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: rank two hundred and why do they take him? Like whatever,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: the same thing. They know what they're they're looking at,
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: but it's it's just hard. Sometimes those are the places
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: where I'm like, I don't I don't get it. With
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: nikkil Harry when they drafted him first round pick and
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: right now, everyone's just we need a first round receiver
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: we need and then they took ni kill Harry and
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: it was like a great example. Does Bill not know
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: more about nikkil Harry than we do? He thought he did, no,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: but does he of course he knows well, he knows more. Yes,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: he knows more than how he does. Yeah, it doesn't
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: mean he was right. No, I mean, draft you can't
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: be right all the time. You can't be it's impossible.
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: But but it's football right in the draft, right, So
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: he drafted josh Ucha yep, but he won't play him.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: He went on the recommendation of Don Brown. And I
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: think Josh McDaniel's cousin or brothers on that staff too.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: It's really just impossible to have a conversation with the man.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: I mean, I don't even know why I'm arguing. He
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: doesn't even think they're in the mix for a playoff spot, right,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: that's they're not even in the hunt. That's too after
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: twenty years, you have to have a time where you
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: get back. Uh, let's go to Brandon in Oregon. What's up,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Brandon Ducks? Hey, how you doing today? Good? Adequate? Good man? Hey.
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: So personally I love a lot of the free agent
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: action it's been happening, especially my boy Terrence Mitchell. Let's
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: go Duck bringing into the fold. Love that. Yeah, Um,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: I just had one question for you guys. Um, if
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: somehow this is pretty hypothetical, but if the Patriots either
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: moved up to a spot or somehow Derek Stingley, Jordan
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Davis or remind me of the cornerback's name out of Cincinnati. Yeah,
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: if all three of them were available wherever the Patriots
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: are picking in the first round. Um, which one of
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: those three guys do you like the best? Or which
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: one do you think would I don't know you would
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: like me? Who do you say Gardner would be my pick. Then,
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: did you say McDuffie, No, he said Stingley Gardner or
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: I think Jordan Davis. You said, oh yeah, big boy,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: Jordan Davis. Yeah, I would take sauce. Yeah, I'd probably
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: be a sauce. I do like McDuffie though, too. I
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: think he's he's he's the Washington kind of guy. Yeah.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: I would tend to agree just for kind of team needs,
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: like to go with the corner. But I think this
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: Davis kid is just like I think he's going to
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: be a star in the NFL for ten years. Like,
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: I just don't think you can teach six six three
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: six with that type of athleticism. I'm like, yeah, I
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: think the right. Yeah, I know, he's just the thing
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: in the draft to me. Yeah, I mean I think
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: the only thing would durrell him is if he's out
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: of shape and you know, if he has trouble. But
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: you know, I kind of agree with you, But I
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: also like, that's why I go a little bit more
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: towards Walker on Georgia, who now apparently could go first overall.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: But you know, I think that kind of guy who
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: can make an impact on the quarterback on every down,
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: that that that would probably be the way I would
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: lean a little bit if it came down to those
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: two with you know, especially Walker, who he can move,
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: he could probably play him just about anywhere. Um So,
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: but I see it. It's easy to see Davis kind
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: of fitting in nicely with Barmore and and filling up.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: I just I just don't know how much of an
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: impact he makes against the Bills, Like, you know, how
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: much what does he do for you against Josh Allen?
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: You know on third down? That's my struggle. You know,
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: I like them, and you could throw the Aaron Donald
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: thing there, you know, it's but like, I don't think
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: he's a big fatty Aaron Donald not a big fatty
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: like so like Mountain Man, what do you guys think
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: about I mean Mountain I've seen so many mock drafts.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: Some of them have Stingley going like fifth overall. Some
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: of them he is all all over the Yeah, a
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: bunch of guys like that. Do you guys think out
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: of the elite corners kind of these top three dvs,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: that it is the most likely that he falls to
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: twenty one, or do you think there's a better chance
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: one of the other two guys that they have going
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: in the first round? Does it's me? I've seen I've
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: seen guys. It's so hard to say. And as you know,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: we've been saying these guys, they all have their own
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: views of these guys. And I just think corner is
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: such an important position, and they're they're gonna go sooner
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: than later. It certainly seems Sauce Gardner's not going to
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: be long for that first round. He's going sauce. Did
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: you see did you seek out you know, like a
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: sauce diamond nameplate? So I was thinking maybe most draft show,
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: I was gonna douce one, you know, like a deuced diamond. Uh,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: like sauce in the uh, the tradition they got out
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: on sauce. Now he wore a necklace. I'm out. And
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: then Philip A from Rio de Janeiro rites inks does
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: the Tyreek signing change Bill's approach to speed at the
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: linebacker position in any way? No? I mean I think
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: they're hopefully head in that direction already. Um. And that's
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: you know, based on who they got and what they're
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: trying to do. How well can all these guys run?
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: I don't know. Um, we'll see. I do think hu
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: chase a little athletic. Maybe he's got something, but where
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: are they gonna put him? I mean that's with with
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: Uch again, going back to that point of like, Okay,
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: he's an athletic guy, he's a pass rusher, but how
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: are we gonna use him? Where is he? Is he
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: gonna go inside? Is he gonna play like Teddy Bruski
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: and playment insideline? So where I think we're still trying
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: to see that because we've seen him moved around a
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: little bit, but I can't see him in the middle though.
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: I mean we've seen him there as we haven't seen
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: him there, but I don't think of him as that.
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: And that's why even from camp it felt like they
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: were kind of like, alright, let's how about here, what
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: about this? What about like searching for it? And you can't.
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: But then you can talk to the guys and they're
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: like they like the other players, then yeah, he can
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: can play anywhere, anywhere anywhere. I'm like, he doesn't, then, yeah,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: just do one thing good. I don't need you to
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: do everything not on the field in the game. Greg
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: in Canada, what do you think is more likely to
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: occur within the next five years? The Patriots have at
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: least one Super Bowl or the Patriots don't win a
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: title and have a new head coach, GM and quarterback
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: in five years. What's more likely in five years? I
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: mean the ladder. Yeah, it's just a law of averages.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: I would guess how come you didn't get mad at
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: that emailer? For Canada is a bigger country than England.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: You didn't specify where he was from. Well maybe he's
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: from greg Canada, the Greg coma Canada. Yeah, maybe there's
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: a place in Canada. So we didn't say who he
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: was so the you don't want that either? Yeah, bad,
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: bad bad email e Ridicett. Yeah, let's see Benny hates
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: the Jets. He says he's fright. Yeah, yeah, he's from Victoria, BC.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: Candid a lot of first time writer, uh, medium time listener.
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: I recall Bill making a statement about how they draft
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: the best player available and not for need. I'm wondering
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: if this is more of an ideology of years past
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: than the current reality. With this team, which has several needs,
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: do we still have that luxury? Thankfully, corner isn't one
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: of those needs now with the Patriots legend Butler, who
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: hasn't played in a year returning. Um, not listening live.
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to Paul's explosion on how a
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: thirty year old plus former Patriots returning as we run
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: it back once again. UM, don't don't sell him short. Yeah.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: I think though, if you, uh, if you have a
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: lot of needs, then it's easier to take the best
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: player available, right, yeah, right, right, because you're just saying, well, yeah,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: is going to fill a need? Yeah right. At this point,
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: it's interesting. Um, let's see. Um, oh, Claire, they took
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: the best guy. Claire writes in Hello everyone, Hello, hey girl,
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: welcome back to Deuce. Great pro day rite up O,
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: thank you. I hope you don't mind. I wanted to
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: write in and say how I'm all with the It's
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: gonna be fine. What did we expect? Yes, Bill could
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: have picked up some other guys in free agency, but
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: there's still so much to come with the draft, in
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: that revolving door that happens at training camp. Bottom line,
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I love Mac and let's see what's gonna happen. Okay,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: we'll see, we will see. Yeah. Uh, let's go back
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: to the phones. It sounds like you guys are a
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: little tired, like did you lose a little snow, but
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: like a little bit. I don't have a lot of
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: time for the you know, we just don't know crowd Like, Okay,
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: I'd rather have you tell me. No, this team's gonna
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: be fine. They're gonna, I don't Buffalo just like they
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: did last year for the division and they're gonna be right. Well,
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: have a take, Yeah, have a take. It's like Jim Rome.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: You gonna be in the jungle. You gotta have a take, right,
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: just you know, let us know so that way you
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: don't have to tell us afterward how right you were right,
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: Like the guy who called earlier who said I would
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: have told you that Jonathan Smith wasn't going to work out,
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: the gadget guy. Yeah, well why didn't you? Why didn't
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: you tell us that marks a Niantic Connecticut? What's up? Mark? Hey, guys,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: what's going today? Great? Good first time Pauler listening to
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: you guys all the time. Thank you. I think it's
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: I think it's pretty simple. I really think and this
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: is uh, you know, Bill. Bill doesn't normally do this,
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: but I think he really needs to get up between
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: the ten to thirteen range and he's just got to
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: go after one of those elite wide receivers. He's a
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson, Drake London, you know, Chris a lobby. I mean,
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: he's got to go up there and get Mac Jones
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: a legit weapon, and then I think they'll be in
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: pretty good shape. I wanted to see what you guys
- 1:49:03Speaker 1: thought of that. I'm all for it, but I'm still
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: more worried about the defense. Yeah, I'm not going up
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: to do that, but you might get one of those guys.
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: I would take one of those at twenty one if
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: you really want it. I'd rather wait till day two.
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: But yeah, those guys, you're gonna Jamison William that I
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: think will be there at twenty one because of his injury.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: I think you can afford to wait a year on him.
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: Um Man, I don't know. I'm out on him. Yeah,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: I'm not sure you can think you're gonna get into
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: a lot of shootouts. Well, listen when you say you
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: can't afford to our hopes right now, aren't that high.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: It's not like you're forfeiting a super Bowl if you
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: have to wait a year for Jamison Wild. But I'm
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: more concerned about Mac Jones. I think it's about Mac
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: Jones's development. Yeah, now I hear the last year. I
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: hear you friends with Mac Jones. So John Mitchie would
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: be a perfect candidate to pick up in the second
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: round two as well. Yeah, I mean, I don't think
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: you need to do to do both. But if they did,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: would you be shocked? What do you think these players? Um,
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: I like Garrett Wilson and I like MATCHI what do
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: you think the rest of the league thinks of these players?
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: They like all of them? Think? Yeah, but you know,
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: I mean there's certain guys you like better. And I
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: mean I think if you think that Jamison Williams checks
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: every single box that you have, then he's worth it.
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: And if you don't, and you have some concerns, if
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: he didn't get injured, right, but that's Jamison Williams for sure.
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: It would have been a top ten pick without the injury. Right.
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: That's why I think if one you pick him, so
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: can I just like a hypothetical because this is this
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: is where my head's that. Let's say you meet with
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: Jamison Williams and you say, all right, here's our playbook.
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: We'll give you a little rundown. All right, here's the
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: give it back to us. What are you gonna do?
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: And he's got no clue, no clue of how to,
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: like you tell him run down this based on combine
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: or maybe maybe not? Is this a hypothetic Maybe maybe not?
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: But you know, like that would that cause you concern
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: Suddenly someone's bringing drafts to the show that's not allowed. No, yeah,
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: because then you're drafted another nikkil Harry Tycho play right,
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: And and then I'm not trying to like pick on
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: Jameson Williams. I just I got the vibe when I
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: saw Jamison Williams and heard him talk, and did I
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: like that he might not be the brightest bulb on
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: the tree. And that's you know, maybe a quick off
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: the cuff reaction that I had. I hope he but
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: that was my that was my my impression to him.
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: So I don't know either that that's a concern. You know,
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: he comes out here, we talk about how hard it
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: is to fit in here. I mean I've always looked
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: at a lot of football nerds period. What about his
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: road tree? I mean his road tree is fine. It's
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: just that is he gonna be able to process what
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: they ask him to do here? And what the expectations
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: are here. And there's also a guy that left Ohio
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: State and went to Alabama because he couldn't beat out
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: a lava And Garrett Wilson. No, if I'm not trying
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: to like downplay, I'm just saying there's a lot going
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: on here that like this guy, he was going to
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: be the best receiver of all time until he tore
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: his acl and now he's going day two like Joe
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: Brow No Hill, don't be a stranger call again. Um
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: Burt on Burton Island writes in UM one, he has
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: three three questions. Whatever happened to Nick baby Love? Not complaining,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: just wondering, I don't know, we don't know. Uname right too,
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: whatever happened wondering? Whatever happened to Chester from Portland this time?
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: I am complaining Chester always brought it well. I think
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: that's so no inflation when it's causing a you know,
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: dry spell and they can't buy apparel and he can't
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: buy And three is so nice to hear from Megan
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: suddenly and out of the blue, and just coincidentally, right
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: before her traveling clown show was due in the area.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: It is kind of funny and trying to get me
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: to go to that. Uh, I don't think we should
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: all go. I think I have a soft joy that
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: needs reorganizing that day. It's funny it happens on social
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: media sometimes to somebody who like, you know, maybe he's
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: active or you tweet with, and then all of a
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: sudden they fall off, just disappear, and you never know what.
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: I remember that Twitter account that was hammering all of
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: us about Cam Newton. Yeah, that popped up yesterday. Oh,
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: I haven't seen haven't seen that Twitter handle in a
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: long time. He loans the bottom Tyler from Natick writes,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: and if Belichick drafts a Navy veteran that was coached
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: by Great Ciano at Rutgers and had a great three
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: cone drill time, what would the analysts talk about? First?
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: Where where it would fit in the core four special teams?
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: Did Nike pick them? The dog Stephen South Carolina. Bill
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: is the greatest football coach ever, but isn't above criticism.
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: I have to believe that when the Brady era ended,
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: Bill had the foresight to map out a long term
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: plan on how to compete for Super Bowl Again. Can
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: we zoom out a bit starting from the pick six
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: against Tennessee in the nineteen wild card and see if
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: we can decipher bills three to five year plan to
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: get back to the dance. What moves have they made
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: and continue to make that we may not be able
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: to register in our shortsighted view, are moving the organization
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: forward to win number seven? Well, I mean drafting a
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: quarterback last year was one of those steps, I would think,
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: and that certainly wasn't part of the plan because you
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: don't plan to take the fifth quarterback, and right I
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: think they planned to take eight quarterback. It could have
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: been as easy as you know, the Mills kid from Houston. Yeah,
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: you know, I think they were gonna take a would
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: expect to be in the hunt from the playoffs. Yeah,
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: and as you said on Tuesday, they're not. Yeah, that's three.
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: That's three. I mean I think step one find find
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: a quarterback anyway possible. And I mean I like that
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: they went in the first round and took a guy
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: there instead of like trying to wow, we'll just eat
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: it like you needed a guy with some time. But
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: I'm just talking about like pick six, Logan, Ryan, this
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: is we gotta go, we gotta go. I gotta go
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: back to square one. How do we rebuild this that
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: you know Mac Jones in two years? Is yeah what
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: they were thinking. No. But and that's the thing about
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: you know, just all pro sports, you a lot of
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: the stuff. You just take advantage of opportunities. But I think,
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: you know, I think he understood that he needed a quarterback.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Yeah right, but I even we understood. But I also
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: think that he was part of like the whole narrative
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: that we don't need to have the forty million dollars, right.
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: How do you feel like you're starting to learn that
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: you might have? You do? Like, how do you feel
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: about if you're Indie and you know, each year a
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: new vet whatever it's been like five straight years or
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: six straight years that they've had a new Like, I
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: feel like I'd rather just have Mac and all his
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: little warts that he certainly hasn't, you know, focus on it.
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: Like I like they had their choices of those two things,
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: I think they would take that too. Yeah, but they
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: haven't had that choice. And I think that's another part
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: of the thing that's going into this season with the
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: desperation that you're seeing with Watson and Wilson and and
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: even Rogers to a lesser extent because they know how
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: bad this class is. So you you know, if you're
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: one of these teams, you had had to find a
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: way to get a quarterback. If you think you have
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: a super Bowl ready team, you got to do everything
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: you can to get a quarterback. Who's a you know,
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: like for Indie, Kenny Pickett or Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan.
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: I mean, there's not even a choice. Okay, Justin and
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: Alabama trying to figure out this email, Fred, I apologize
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: for the email yesterday. Um, I think he meant Tuesday. Yeah,
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: but he's mailing today. Listening to you read, it was
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: almost as bad as Sanchez's butt fumble. I felt sorry
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: at first for causing the fumble, but hilarious after the fact.
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: By the way, if I caused the fumble, that makes
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: me the ass I'd like to follow. I'd like to
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: follow yesterday's question with this. I think this season will
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: be the measuring stick we grade Mac with his second
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: year development. Also considering the strength of the AFC he's
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: up against, and hopefully he takes another step forward and
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: so uh see, see he doesn't right with and so
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: he will quiet The comparison to Brady ps really enjoyed
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: the Pa Pats from the past with Drew. He was
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: my guy back in the day too. Well, yeah, I
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: like that too. That was a good episode. Was great, great,
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: great story with Giselle. That was my my favorite. With
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: the snow on the mountain that Freddie, I haven't listened
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: to it yet. Oh okay, it's a good story. Yeah,
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: tell him what is it? So Drew was in Montana
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: and in the Brady at some point, maybe like O
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: eight oh nine, uh said hello on the slopes later
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: in the day, Drew coming down kind of like last
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: off the mountain and he's like, I see Tom getting
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: out of his skis and he's there with it with
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: a girl or a woman and it's you know, I
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: assume it's Giselle. So I come in really hot and
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna like just Dallas Tom with snow but totally
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: missus her at missus him and hills Giselle, which douses
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: or with snow. Um. But the best part, you know,
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: so he feels terrible, he's embarrassed, goes up, gives her
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: a hug. She hugs him back. The nice part of
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: the story was then she said to him, you know,
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: I don't usually hug people when I first meet them,
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: but you don't know how you're talked about in our house.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: So it was a it was a nice, nice, nice
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: kind of button to the story of comedy a little. Yeah, no,
- 1:58:21Speaker 1: I think, you know, certainly in his documentary, Brady has
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: gone out of his way now to you know, you know,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: appreciate the line was for Bledsoe to Brady is it
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: would have been a lot harder exactly. Brady was an
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: a hole, right, or it would have been a lot No,
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: But for so to deal with all of it, like, yes,
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying, he could have made Brady's year
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: a lot harder for us. Yeah, you know, and he didn't.
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: And I think and it wasn't a lot of people,
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: but a lot of people say that Brady benefited because Bledsoe,
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: you know, as pissed as he was profession is not
- 1:58:58Speaker 1: perfect as he probably was behind the scenes, didn't make
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: a big stink of it. And that's true, yea. But
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: just as important for Bledsoe was the fact that Brady
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: recognized the situation and helped it didn't cause more friction. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: so yeah, I mean listen, bledsoew was part of the resurrection.
- 1:59:20Speaker 1: That's why in the bledsoew era they were always deuced
- 1:59:23Speaker 1: in the playoff hunt, unlike the way they are now.
- 1:59:26Speaker 1: According to Fred, that's four. You have to give me
- 1:59:31Speaker 1: different ways to better Quarterback Mac Jones, come on, Mac
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: nd Yeah, all right, that's gonna be it for this
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: edition of Patriots Unfiltered. Everybody, have a good weekend. March
