- 0:22SPEAKER_00: One of the most inspiring stories from the world of music comes from the rock band The Foo Fighters.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Dave Grohl was the drummer for the mega successful band Nirvana back in the 90s.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: He was already an established musician in his own right.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: But when the lead singer of Nirvana, Kurt Komain, committed suicide in 1994, nobody expected Dave Grohl to form his own band and take on the role of a songwriter and a lead singer.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Now by that point, Dave had been writing and recording songs for a long time, so the very next year, in 1995, he released the first Foo Fighters album.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Not only did he write the songs, he also played all the instruments himself.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Now, a few years later, by 1999, the Foo Fighters consisted of a full band and had released two more albums, and in the following years they continued to grow in popularity despite changing styles and pop radio.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Now the Foo Fighters are one of the most recognizable and popular rock bands in the whole world.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And there's a simple lesson here, and that is persistence pays off.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: For Dave Grohl, success did not come easy.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Even though he had already been in a successful band, there were no guarantees.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: He had to prove himself all over again.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Yet he persisted.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: He kept doing what he loved and he assumed that his hard work would eventually pay off.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Thomas Edison once said, Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Success may be far off or it might be just around the corner, but one thing is for sure, it's never going to happen if you quit.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: Because the thing that makes you successful is your persistence and you carry that around with you wherever you go.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So don't quit.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Don't give up.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Keep on plugging away at those writing projects that are so important to you.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: One day you're going to look back and say, I never knew I was so close to success.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: What are you tempted to quit right now and what would it look like for you to keep on going for just one more month on that project?
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: As we talk about persistence, one of the best ways to keep on going as a writer and to continue building your author career is to take your book and create a course from it.
