- 0:04Speaker 1: We've got how to start the show. Hang on, let
- 0:06Speaker 1: me let me ever think about how we can start
- 0:07Speaker 1: the show. Hello, welcome to Melbourne again. Oh there you
- 0:10Speaker 1: go to our studio. See you get in there. You're
- 0:13Speaker 1: too You just you didn't want to do the intro
- 0:14Speaker 1: before the.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Face of the sun. It's about a thousand degrees in here.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It is really hot.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We asked. I blame my televisions and pictures of me.
- 0:23Speaker 1: And you ladies. Dinner's ready. There's a reason why there's
- 0:28Speaker 1: fake plants in here, just they couldn't cope with the heat.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Have you been Yeah, it's just you know, busy as
- 0:36Speaker 1: usual as your NFT is going. Ah has your bitcoin
- 0:41Speaker 1: stock because it's like my figure, it's constantly shredding. Yeah, ah,
- 0:48Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, it's infected's shredding so much, it's very gaunt.
- 0:52Speaker 1: The moment just before when I was walking to the studio,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Paul was actually naked and he was flexing his arms
- 0:59Speaker 1: and he said, somebody call a vet. These swans are sick.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And I was like, sir, can you please put some
- 1:08Speaker 1: pants on? Anyway? He still doesn't.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah, welcome to the show. It's been a big sort
- 1:13Speaker 2: of weaken cars. We're gonna be talking about some very
- 1:17Speaker 2: interesting stuff in car news.
- 1:18Speaker 1: I reckon, this is the last time I get you
- 1:20Speaker 1: to do the intro. Yeah, coming up, guys, We've got
- 1:22Speaker 1: some very interesting stuff on cars.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I promise Gordy won't say anything about BYD or any
- 1:28Speaker 2: other company that's paying him to say nice things.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Excuse me, how dare you?
- 1:32Speaker 2: Do?
- 1:32Speaker 1: You know what that was? I reckon? Half the point
- 1:34Speaker 1: of us doing this podcast was to shit on other
- 1:36Speaker 1: car journals, because mate, they're all puppets of the bloody
- 1:40Speaker 1: car industry except Gordy. No no, no, no, no, all
- 1:45Speaker 1: of them. They're all except for you. They're all. But
- 1:49Speaker 1: I'm talking about like Paul's like, like the mates that
- 1:53Speaker 1: the old men who have been doing this shit for years.
- 1:57Speaker 1: They'll be finishing a story on the laptop that's sitting
- 1:59Speaker 1: on the bonnet of their car and just putting out
- 2:02Speaker 1: a cigarette. It's fucking ready, all right. What are they've
- 2:10Speaker 1: got urine stains on them?
- 2:13Speaker 2: Why?
- 2:14Speaker 1: They've got like a terrible like they're they're well divorced,
- 2:19Speaker 1: well divorced, well divorced, and they have questionable stains on
- 2:23Speaker 1: their T shirts. That's your mates, A lot of them
- 2:27Speaker 1: are engineers of something. Now they're failed engineers.
- 2:30Speaker 2: And they're sounding a lot like me.
- 2:32Speaker 1: They're failed engineers and their average journalists tell them. Yeah. Anyway, Actually,
- 2:38Speaker 1: speaking of which, Paul said, I've got an opinion piece
- 2:41Speaker 1: i'd like you put forward, So look out for that, guys.
- 2:44Speaker 1: In about twelve minutes, we've got an opinion piece by Paul.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Well, what are we starting with? Are we're starting with
- 2:49Speaker 2: a car review or the cart news?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Well we started with the car review last time, but
- 2:54Speaker 1: that's because I was paid good. No, we just decided
- 2:57Speaker 1: to go We justoke. Yeah, we decided to go a
- 3:02Speaker 1: little bit topsy turvy. Let's go with Hey, this is
- 3:04Speaker 1: interesting because Sony and and Honda are kind of doing
- 3:07Speaker 1: a collab, which when you told me about this reminded
- 3:10Speaker 1: me of when Remember when was it Volkswagen and Beats
- 3:13Speaker 1: Remember doctor Dre Beats did like a polo, Yes, and
- 3:16Speaker 1: it was average.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, it's called the Sony Honda Mobility Ink joint Venture.
- 3:23Speaker 2: But my colleague Scott came up with a great name
- 3:26Speaker 2: for it that I think they should change it to immediately, called.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The Sounder Shonder Shonder. You're smiling at me like he's
- 3:33Speaker 1: a genius.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It's hilarious.
- 3:36Speaker 1: The shonder shonder that sounds like a woman I slept
- 3:40Speaker 1: with on my Kentdici to he doing shonder.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Sony and Honda joined together.
- 3:44Speaker 1: We got it, We got the gear.
- 3:47Speaker 2: So it's kicking off in twenty twenty five with mobility services.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I love that. That's the new thing, like ride hailing
- 3:54Speaker 2: and car sharing.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Oh okay, I thought it was. Honestly, I thought it
- 3:58Speaker 1: was for like like mobility services. I thought it would
- 4:02Speaker 1: be more like special.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Wimchairs or something. I think that covers that as well.
- 4:05Speaker 2: It's so basically, Sony first came up with its automotive
- 4:09Speaker 2: intentions with the Vision S which came out in twenty twenty.
- 4:11Speaker 2: It was a concept, and then it was followed by
- 4:13Speaker 2: the Vision S two. See what they did there. They
- 4:17Speaker 2: added a two to the end. Yeah, SUV in twenty
- 4:21Speaker 2: twenty two. So Honda is now joining that thing and
- 4:24Speaker 2: they're going to take care of manufacturing and then Sony's
- 4:28Speaker 2: going to do all the development on the application of imaging, sensing, telecoms,
- 4:32Speaker 2: network entertainment technologies. It kind of it makes sense because
- 4:36Speaker 2: you've got a tech expert who then palms off to
- 4:39Speaker 2: a manufacturing expert prom his honder has just been doing
- 4:42Speaker 2: some random stuff lately, and I don't know whether that's
- 4:44Speaker 2: the best idea in the world, but you know, I'm
- 4:48Speaker 2: excited to see what it brings, because when you think
- 4:50Speaker 2: Sony products, they're actually not bad. I mean, they cameras,
- 4:52Speaker 2: they've got the PlayStation.
- 4:54Speaker 1: They are a Sony make In my opinion, I'm a
- 4:56Speaker 1: bit of a headphone nerd. They make the best headphones
- 4:59Speaker 1: in the world. They've got their MX fours and they
- 5:02Speaker 1: are everyone goes for the I don't know what do
- 5:04Speaker 1: people do these.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Days, you'd prefer the MX five.
- 5:10Speaker 1: He's just so proud of his comedy today. He's gonna
- 5:13Speaker 1: go home and go guys. I cracked four jokes in
- 5:16Speaker 1: the first ten minutes and they were rippers. Yeah. They
- 5:22Speaker 1: make great headphones anyway, and they make good tallies.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So I'm excited for it.
- 5:25Speaker 1: This is pretty exciting.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see what it brings. So yeah, But like
- 5:28Speaker 2: all this stuff Japanese companies there, I just don't want
- 5:31Speaker 2: it to be expensive, and we don't need more expensive evs.
- 5:34Speaker 2: We need reasonably priced ones. And Hondura has just gone
- 5:36Speaker 2: insane with everything expensive in Australia at the moment. So
- 5:39Speaker 2: what did they just recently laud the HRV. It's twenty
- 5:42Speaker 2: five thousand dollars.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and it doesn't look like a forty five thousand dollars.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Car, which is just yeah, it's just crazy. So yeah, anyway.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Interesting, Hey McClaren launched a car and it set fire.
- 5:54Speaker 1: That was fun.
- 5:55Speaker 2: The coverage wasn't on fire, it was literally the car.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Yeah, what is that another one in Yeah, I put
- 6:01Speaker 1: that on the list cars right up to eight now
- 6:02Speaker 1: they did so good.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So this car has been delayed by eighteen months. They
- 6:06Speaker 2: were meant to do the media launch for this in
- 6:08Speaker 2: October last year, and at the very last minute they
- 6:11Speaker 2: canceled the launch and said there were COVID related pandemic
- 6:15Speaker 2: isshoes to do with the software. I'm like, it makes
- 6:18Speaker 2: no sense, but okay, So finally they ran the launch
- 6:22Speaker 2: and one of the cars caught fire during the launch,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and then other cars at the launch had a number
- 6:29Speaker 2: of technical gremlins that stopped them from working effectively.
- 6:32Speaker 1: This sounds like a bloody Remember when Tesla like cracked
- 6:35Speaker 1: the cyber truck.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Yeah, but see exactly, this is like that, but just fire.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yeah, this is on fire.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Literally. Yeah, so this is the replacement for the five
- 6:45Speaker 2: seven years. It was meant to be their sort of
- 6:46Speaker 2: affordable supercar. I just wonder what McLaren's doing lately, and
- 6:50Speaker 2: how do you not test these cars? When they hold
- 6:52Speaker 2: a media launch, they'll often have journalists drive around the
- 6:55Speaker 2: track thinking they're nice and quick, and then a race
- 6:57Speaker 2: driver will take them for a hot lab. Surely before
- 7:00Speaker 2: the launch you would say to the race drivers, hey,
- 7:01Speaker 2: can you absolutely came the shit out of these cars,
- 7:04Speaker 2: just to make sure that they don't, you know, catch
- 7:06Speaker 2: fire and there's no problems with them. How do you
- 7:08Speaker 2: get to the point where the journalists get in the
- 7:10Speaker 2: car and drive it slower than a race driver would
- 7:12Speaker 2: and then they catch fire?
- 7:13Speaker 1: They caught fire? Was it just the one car?
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's that's all I've read about, is just
- 7:19Speaker 2: the one car. But apparently a number of other journalists
- 7:21Speaker 2: we're talking about how bad the car was from a
- 7:23Speaker 2: technical perspective, So and often they won't actually publish exactly
- 7:28Speaker 2: what happens because the car companies will pressure them into
- 7:30Speaker 2: not talking about it.
- 7:31Speaker 1: So funny about that.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Who knows what could have? Yeah, who knows what could have? Happened.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I'm less outraged than you are on this because I
- 7:38Speaker 1: kind of go, it's a supercar. Sure, it's worth a
- 7:41Speaker 1: shit ton of money, and there's a shit ton of
- 7:43Speaker 1: engineering and stuff like that that's got into it. But
- 7:46Speaker 1: at the end of the day, it's have a look
- 7:48Speaker 1: at like these cars that they're putting on like a
- 7:50Speaker 1: race circuit. It happens. Do you know what I mean?
- 7:53Speaker 2: Is this is a car that's designed to be driven
- 7:55Speaker 2: on the road, right, and then if you want to
- 7:57Speaker 2: take it to the track, it's designed to be driven
- 7:59Speaker 2: at the track. And the whole reason these are much
- 8:01Speaker 2: slower than race cars is because they built in all
- 8:03Speaker 2: the safety nets. And I just don't understand how it
- 8:06Speaker 2: was eighteen months late before they ran the launch in
- 8:09Speaker 2: October last year, and then they had another six months
- 8:13Speaker 2: at least to get it right. I just don't know
- 8:15Speaker 2: how they don't pick this stuff up in testing. It's
- 8:17Speaker 2: more just that it shows they haven't tested it enough
- 8:19Speaker 2: because their engineers and their race drivers would drive it
- 8:22Speaker 2: to the absolute limits. How is it that when they
- 8:25Speaker 2: did it there were no problems, but then when the
- 8:27Speaker 2: journalists topped in, it started catching on fire. So it
- 8:30Speaker 2: kind of tells me that perhaps they were doing this previously,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and they yeah, I don't know.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think what happened was it was that journalist as
- 8:35Speaker 1: well divorced, is putting his dart out just like the
- 8:38Speaker 1: window on the fuel tak. Yeah, let's go. Someone definitely
- 8:43Speaker 1: would have got fired over that, right, I think?
- 8:45Speaker 2: So I went. Actually just a fun inside story. I
- 8:48Speaker 2: went to a Lamborghini event once at Phillip Island where
- 8:52Speaker 2: we were driving the event at or and the event
- 8:54Speaker 2: a or roadstuff, and one of the cars caught fire
- 8:58Speaker 2: on that event and my the car that I was in,
- 9:01Speaker 2: had all my cameras set up for some filming and
- 9:04Speaker 2: it filmed the car on fire and like burning, yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 2: like on fire. And I was told that they need
- 9:12Speaker 2: me to delete the footage. And I said, what what
- 9:16Speaker 2: do you mean? You want me to delete the footage?
- 9:17Speaker 1: Were you kind of a bit of a newbie to
- 9:19Speaker 1: the game back then?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Now I wasn't gonna do anything with it, But I'm like,
- 9:21Speaker 2: you can't tell me to delete the footage. Everything else
- 9:24Speaker 2: on there I need, so you've still got it maybe.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And then this is like Princess Dane's photos in the tunnel,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and then we were told got the incriminating evidence.
- 9:32Speaker 2: We were told after to not publish anything on what
- 9:36Speaker 2: had happened until they investigate, and months had gone by,
- 9:39Speaker 2: there was no information on this investigation. They were hoping
- 9:42Speaker 2: that we would just forget about it. And then another
- 9:45Speaker 2: journalist who wasn't there heard about what had happened and
- 9:48Speaker 2: then published a story on it, and then everyone else
- 9:51Speaker 2: just published a story after that.
- 9:52Speaker 1: But so, if I look deep enough, I'll find this vision.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. And then yeah, basically, it was
- 9:58Speaker 2: an oil leak that went onto the Exhaus austin At
- 10:00Speaker 2: caught fire. So it does happen in supercars. But I
- 10:03Speaker 2: just think when they try and cover it up and
- 10:04Speaker 2: they try and force you into not talking about it,
- 10:08Speaker 2: it just makes the matter even worse.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Jesus, the PR people would just be like, hopefully they'll
- 10:13Speaker 1: forget about it.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Hopefully they forget about that time the mid car burnt
- 10:17Speaker 2: to the ground.
- 10:18Speaker 1: People will forget about that time he was in that
- 10:20Speaker 1: expensive million dollar hypercar and his camera in himself nearly
- 10:24Speaker 1: got melted. Imagine that, what else are we doing? Have
- 10:28Speaker 1: we done? Have we done all the news?
- 10:30Speaker 2: No? I've got my opinion.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Oh God, here we go.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Okay, So a serious one.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Hang on, before we do this, would you like theme music?
- 10:40Speaker 1: I can give you this new hit song by Ladder
- 10:43Speaker 1: called Big Dick Energy.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Who all these people? I've never heard you?
- 10:47Speaker 1: You're nearly forty, but you're going on seventy five years old?
- 10:51Speaker 1: Just have never Who was the last Lizzo Lizzo? No,
- 10:54Speaker 1: you've never heard a Lizo A Ladder Laddo? Never heard
- 10:59Speaker 1: of it? Ed Sheeran, of course you would have heard
- 11:02Speaker 1: of him. He's played on Smooth a lot. Who else
- 11:05Speaker 1: have you heard of? Who's a contemporary? Who's someone twenty
- 11:09Speaker 1: twenty two that you would know? Justin Bieber? You know him,
- 11:13Speaker 1: but he's pop culture? Jesus.
- 11:15Speaker 2: What about I just do my opinion.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'm going to get No, I'm going to get a
- 11:19Speaker 1: theme song for you, and it's going to be okay, Yes,
- 11:26Speaker 1: go for it.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Okay, Now this is serious. So a police officer in
- 11:31Speaker 2: Victoria is facing ten years in jail for traveling at
- 11:36Speaker 2: a peak of two hundred and thirty kilometers an hour,
- 11:39Speaker 2: overtaking seventy seven other cars and averaging two hundred kilometers
- 11:43Speaker 2: an hour to attend a crash scene. At the crash scene,
- 11:48Speaker 2: a police car had pulled someone over, and someone had
- 11:51Speaker 2: crashed into the police car, and there were injured police
- 11:53Speaker 2: officers and Senior Constable Bradley Becroft, irate patrol officer sixteen
- 11:58Speaker 2: years experience.
- 11:59Speaker 1: What was his rank again? Did you say?
- 12:01Speaker 2: Leading senior constable?
- 12:03Speaker 1: Constable right? Got it?
- 12:04Speaker 2: And he is now facing ten years jail.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Now, my jail's not all. He's facing pretty well, but
- 12:12Speaker 1: I reckon.
- 12:14Speaker 2: My opinion here is that it is okay for this
- 12:18Speaker 2: to have happened and he shouldn't be facing jail.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:23Speaker 2: So here's my reasoning behind that. I spoke with a
- 12:26Speaker 2: highway patrol officer and me through.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Before you keep going, I just want to clarify. Is
- 12:32Speaker 1: there a rule that says during a police chase or
- 12:35Speaker 1: some sort of attendant attending a scene like this, can
- 12:42Speaker 1: they can't exceed more than fifty kilometers over the speed limit?
- 12:47Speaker 2: No, that's not a rule. So with the highway patrol officers,
- 12:50Speaker 2: they have what's called a gold license, and that means
- 12:52Speaker 2: they can travel at no speed limits, so there's no
- 12:55Speaker 2: restriction on their speed, but they have to drive safely.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Oh okay, So my thought here is I spoke with
- 13:02Speaker 2: a Highway patrol officer. He ran me through the training
- 13:05Speaker 2: they go through to get their gold license. This police
- 13:07Speaker 2: officer was in a BMW five series now a BMW
- 13:11Speaker 2: five series in Germany, and I've done this before. In
- 13:13Speaker 2: a five series, you can drive it two hundred and
- 13:15Speaker 2: fifty on a public road and the car is engineered
- 13:18Speaker 2: to do that, and it's safe to do that in
- 13:20Speaker 2: Australia for some reason, because we're just funny with everything.
- 13:24Speaker 2: You're not allowed to do that or he's facing potential
- 13:28Speaker 2: jail top.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Now, our roads aren't really built for that in what way? Well,
- 13:31Speaker 1: they're not built. Australians generally can't drive for shit, Like
- 13:34Speaker 1: if you compare to Europe and stuff like that, where
- 13:36Speaker 1: like say the Auto Barnet going two hundred and fifty
- 13:39Speaker 1: k's an hour is quite normal and some ways if
- 13:42Speaker 1: you're going any slower than that, you're probably being dangerous,
- 13:46Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But our roads are built
- 13:49Speaker 1: and designed completely different to European roads.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Well that's if the majority of traffic was traveling at
- 13:55Speaker 2: that speed, right. So if my concern with this case
- 13:58Speaker 2: is that it sets a precedent for other police and
- 14:01Speaker 2: it means that if other police are allowed to do
- 14:03Speaker 2: what this guy did according to their own rules. Are
- 14:07Speaker 2: attending your house because someone's just come in and shot
- 14:10Speaker 2: you or something like that, You don't want them thinking
- 14:13Speaker 2: in the back of their mind, Oh, am I getting
- 14:14Speaker 2: get in trouble if I go a little bit quicker?
- 14:17Speaker 2: Or do I need to chase this criminal any faster
- 14:20Speaker 2: because I don't want to get into trouble.
- 14:21Speaker 1: How fast was he going?
- 14:23Speaker 2: Peak speed was two hundred and thirty. He overtook seventy
- 14:26Speaker 2: seven other cars. And the only reason, in my opinion,
- 14:29Speaker 2: that this has come up now is because he went
- 14:31Speaker 2: through a fixed speed camera at over two hundred. I
- 14:34Speaker 2: have a feeling if he didn't, we never would have
- 14:36Speaker 2: heard about this.
- 14:37Speaker 1: So I don't understand what the crime is. Did he
- 14:39Speaker 1: crash at the end.
- 14:40Speaker 2: No, he didn't, So the crime is he's being charged
- 14:44Speaker 2: with reckless conduct endangering life when he drove above the
- 14:49Speaker 2: speed limit. Now, the reasoning for that is the people
- 14:52Speaker 2: that he overtook. Now, he obviously didn't drive past people
- 14:55Speaker 2: at two hundred and oh I don't think he did,
- 14:57Speaker 2: because the average speed was far less than that, so
- 15:00Speaker 2: he would have slowed down when he passed other cars.
- 15:02Speaker 2: But I just think that if this person is trained
- 15:05Speaker 2: to do this in a car that's engineered to do this.
- 15:07Speaker 2: But in Australia we've been indoctrinated with this whole thing
- 15:11Speaker 2: about speed kills. When they see this, everyone's outraged, but
- 15:14Speaker 2: in actual fact, this is quite a common thing for
- 15:17Speaker 2: police to do overseas in a car that's engineered to
- 15:19Speaker 2: do it. And my concern is that if he now
- 15:21Speaker 2: goes to jail or has found guilty of this, it'll
- 15:25Speaker 2: mean big things for other people in the police force
- 15:28Speaker 2: who have to do this as their job, who are
- 15:30Speaker 2: literally just doing their job.
- 15:32Speaker 1: It'd be interesting to see the prosecutor's point of view
- 15:35Speaker 1: in terms of endangering lives, because that's the big one,
- 15:38Speaker 1: that's the crutch of this right. So we don't really
- 15:41Speaker 1: know the ins and outs, like there was their pedestrians
- 15:43Speaker 1: presences on the hume.
- 15:45Speaker 2: So basically it's a road that has a speed limit
- 15:47Speaker 2: of one hundred and ten and it's pretty straight. I
- 15:50Speaker 2: don't know which section he was in, but the corners
- 15:52Speaker 2: are very mild in most cases. This was in Victoria
- 15:54Speaker 2: and he was the closest police officer to this crash
- 15:57Speaker 2: that had just happened.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I mean I think it wouldn't look It wouldn't surprise
- 16:01Speaker 1: me if E motion played a lot of this, A
- 16:04Speaker 1: big part of this because they're obviously colleagues, injured colleagues
- 16:07Speaker 1: of yours, So they've got to have a code of conduct.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yep.
- 16:11Speaker 1: If you go to war, for instance, if you're in
- 16:13Speaker 1: the army, there's.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Certain things you can and can't do.
- 16:16Speaker 1: There's certain things you can and can't do. Fifty years
- 16:19Speaker 1: ago when people were fighting, those things weren't there. And
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm not saying when you're in like some sort of
- 16:25Speaker 1: a situation like a police chase, or you're at war
- 16:28Speaker 1: or whatever like that, anything should go. I get that
- 16:31Speaker 1: there's got to be not a rule book, but there's
- 16:33Speaker 1: got to be a code of conduct.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I get that problem is if you set a speed
- 16:36Speaker 2: limit for these guys, Let's say the speed limit one
- 16:38Speaker 2: hundred and fifty. If I'm a crim I know all
- 16:41Speaker 2: I have to do is drive one hundred and sixty
- 16:43Speaker 2: and they'll never catch.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Well, that's what I thought.
- 16:45Speaker 2: It depends on the license. So if you're just a
- 16:47Speaker 2: general duties, I think their speed limit is one hundred
- 16:49Speaker 2: and fifty, right, because those also because of those vehicles.
- 16:52Speaker 2: But dual cap ut is generally not engineered with the
- 16:55Speaker 2: weight that they're carrying to drive at that speed. So
- 16:57Speaker 2: these guys are driving in vehicles that have been tested
- 17:00Speaker 2: and assessed to be suitable for those speeds, so they're
- 17:03Speaker 2: trained to drive at those speeds and how to deal
- 17:05Speaker 2: with other drivers on the road. So it just concerns
- 17:07Speaker 2: me that I don't know there's precedents being set, and
- 17:11Speaker 2: you know, it could just have issues longer term. You know,
- 17:14Speaker 2: for myself, I would prefer to know that a cop
- 17:16Speaker 2: is going to if I'm in danger, that a cop
- 17:18Speaker 2: will get there as quick as they safely can.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And look, I think that's also one scenario though, you
- 17:24Speaker 1: could look at it in terms of, you know, our
- 17:28Speaker 1: kids could grow up one day be in a car
- 17:30Speaker 1: with a couple of dickhead who idiots speeding or whatever,
- 17:35Speaker 1: and cops would they could be just speeding along being dickheads.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Cops will come along. Now, there's an argument that says
- 17:47Speaker 1: if the cops went to a certain speed and then
- 17:50Speaker 1: just realized, look, we can't. It's not safe for us
- 17:52Speaker 1: to chase this car over one hundred and thirty ks
- 17:54Speaker 1: an how because we're putting those people's lives that these
- 17:57Speaker 1: people who are speeding lives in danger.
- 18:00Speaker 2: See that's fine, and they have discretion. In fact, the
- 18:03Speaker 2: highway patrol officer I spoke to it said that anyone
- 18:06Speaker 2: involved in that pursuit, that is, anyone listening on the radio,
- 18:08Speaker 2: any other police cars, a passenger in that police car,
- 18:11Speaker 2: anyone in that situation is allowed to say this is unsafe,
- 18:15Speaker 2: we're stopping it, and they have to do that. The
- 18:17Speaker 2: only caveat to that is if it's what they call
- 18:20Speaker 2: an imperative pursuit, where the person has to be stopped
- 18:22Speaker 2: no matter what. In those instances, and we saw this
- 18:25Speaker 2: in Victoria recently when a bloke had a stolen car
- 18:28Speaker 2: and was running people off the road, driving on the
- 18:30Speaker 2: wrong side of the road. He was basically nailed by
- 18:33Speaker 2: a land Cruiser. He lost his tire or something and
- 18:37Speaker 2: was coming to a slow to go around a corner
- 18:39Speaker 2: and this land cruiser, which had the specialist police, just
- 18:42Speaker 2: smashed into this car and they had to stop it.
- 18:45Speaker 2: So I think there are some instances where they don't.
- 18:47Speaker 2: But in those instances there is discretion and there are rules,
- 18:50Speaker 2: and I think.
- 18:50Speaker 1: There needs to be too. Yeah, absolutely needs to be.
- 18:53Speaker 2: But in this instance, I just wonder whether it's appropriate
- 18:56Speaker 2: for him to be charged and potentially spent ten years
- 18:59Speaker 2: in jail for doing his job.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Look, I agree, to be honest, I think this will
- 19:03Speaker 1: be one to watch. I think if you're going to
- 19:05Speaker 1: be in those sorts of roles and the public needs
- 19:08Speaker 1: to to realize if people are in these sorts of roles,
- 19:11Speaker 1: that they're trained and they have to make decisions. Yeah,
- 19:13Speaker 1: they are doing it for the good of whatever they're
- 19:17Speaker 1: doing it for, you know what I mean. Yeah, Well,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to race to like McDonald's. Yeah,
- 19:22Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to race to fellow like
- 19:24Speaker 1: injured police officers.
- 19:26Speaker 2: On the way to the studio today, we did have
- 19:28Speaker 2: a highway patrol car pass us at fifteen k's over
- 19:31Speaker 2: the speed limit.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Without it, well's to bring it up and how like
- 19:33Speaker 1: disgusted you were?
- 19:34Speaker 2: Oh, I think that's bullshit. It can't be that much
- 19:38Speaker 2: of an emergence.
- 19:38Speaker 1: He could have he could have had diarrhea. By the way,
- 19:41Speaker 1: diary is a great way to get out of a
- 19:43Speaker 1: speeding ticket.
- 19:43Speaker 2: I'm just I'm saying, yeah, So let us know your thoughts.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Contact at the Drive show dot com today you do
- 19:49Speaker 2: you agree with me or do you think that there
- 19:51Speaker 2: needs to be a limit for police? And if if
- 19:53Speaker 2: there needs to be, what is the limit and why
- 19:55Speaker 2: is that the limit? Let us know over email or
- 19:58Speaker 2: on our social media in.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Case you joined us. That's Paul's opinion. What really grinds
- 20:02Speaker 1: your gears? Welcome to the program. When we're shit, we've
- 20:06Speaker 1: got about ten minutes to do a car review, here
- 20:08Speaker 1: we go. Let's do the car review. Let's do the
- 20:11Speaker 1: I thirty n Sedan. Are we ready for the review?
- 20:14Speaker 1: This is where you say yes, yes, no, stop with
- 20:18Speaker 1: you yes. The Hyundai I thirty in Sudan. Pricing starts
- 20:23Speaker 1: at forty nine thousand dollars the yon Day I thirty
- 20:27Speaker 1: in Sedan. As our sexy little New Zealand voice lady
- 20:33Speaker 1: just said forty nine k before on road. I think
- 20:36Speaker 1: it's roughly about fifty five on road for this one
- 20:39Speaker 1: manual or eight speed alto. I've been waiting for this
- 20:42Speaker 1: car for a long time. I've been hassling and hassling,
- 20:45Speaker 1: and guess what, I didn't actually get it from yon Day,
- 20:47Speaker 1: Oh where did you get it? I want to give
- 20:49Speaker 1: a shout out, a big shout out to yon Day
- 20:52Speaker 1: Heartland Blacktown for lending me this car. It's actually for sale.
- 20:56Speaker 1: It's done about two thousand k's and it's roughly about
- 20:59Speaker 1: fifty eight dollars drive away, guys. Is a great deal.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But look, the I think the fleet of press cars,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I don't know. I've been asking and asking and asking,
- 21:08Speaker 1: and it was always like they did some end performance
- 21:12Speaker 1: festival yep, And apparently a lot of the cars were
- 21:16Speaker 1: driven pretty hard during this thing and needed repair. That
- 21:19Speaker 1: was that's what I was told. So I wanted to
- 21:21Speaker 1: get one in sooner rather than later. So yeah, these
- 21:23Speaker 1: guys came to the party. So big thank you to
- 21:25Speaker 1: Young Day Heartland Blacktown for that. And yeah, look, you
- 21:30Speaker 1: told me once that you can pretty much predict what
- 21:32Speaker 1: a car's like before you drive it. Did you predict
- 21:34Speaker 1: what this car is going to be like before you
- 21:35Speaker 1: drove it?
- 21:36Speaker 2: Look, it'll be just like the I thirty en hatch.
- 21:38Speaker 2: And knowing the I thirty en hatch, it's firm, it
- 21:42Speaker 2: sounds good. The sedan is probably going to work better
- 21:46Speaker 2: for traction because it has more weight to it and
- 21:49Speaker 2: more overhang at the rear. What else can I predict
- 21:53Speaker 2: about it?
- 21:54Speaker 1: Actually?
- 21:55Speaker 2: Quite like I drove the I thirty Sedan end Line,
- 21:57Speaker 2: which is okay, low fat version, and I thought that
- 22:00Speaker 2: was pretty good, So I expect this to be good
- 22:03Speaker 2: as well. And I think at that price it's actually
- 22:05Speaker 2: pretty good value for money.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I thought, you're driven this. No, oh, you haven't driven it.
- 22:08Speaker 1: This is another car I've driven and you haven't.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Oh, well there you go. It's two on the board
- 22:15Speaker 1: for me, yes, and about three hundred for year.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Look, I got to say, I was genuinely excited about
- 22:22Speaker 1: this car, and I think it is out of all
- 22:26Speaker 1: the end cars, the ConA end, the I thirty n
- 22:29Speaker 1: this is definitely the sweet spot. This is definitely the
- 22:32Speaker 1: pick of the bunch.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it rides great. It's a fun little car. I
- 22:37Speaker 1: guess handles really good. Suspension is definitely on the firmer side.
- 22:42Speaker 1: The good thing is if you're looking for a car
- 22:44Speaker 1: that's kind of you can daily and also track. There's
- 22:47Speaker 1: a lot of cars out there that like, for instance,
- 22:51Speaker 1: when we did the I twenty end, to me, that
- 22:53Speaker 1: wasn't a daily It's too much of a pain in
- 22:55Speaker 1: the ass that gearbox and if you want to if
- 22:58Speaker 1: you want to do the gearbox every day, and just
- 23:01Speaker 1: grow up. Just grow up. You look like a dick
- 23:04Speaker 1: ed No, if that's what you want to do in
- 23:06Speaker 1: busy bumper to bumper traffic, fine, but the eight speed
- 23:10Speaker 1: auto on this was brilliant limited slip diff you can
- 23:13Speaker 1: really give it some kick. What I will say is
- 23:16Speaker 1: N Mode competitor normal Mode. It's miles apart exactly. Yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 1: so you can.
- 23:22Speaker 2: That's what I actually like. You can tell the difference.
- 23:24Speaker 2: There's very It's not like some cars they have normal
- 23:27Speaker 2: sport sport plus race track blah blah blah. It's just
- 23:31Speaker 2: like N Mode is just everything.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and like everything in that in line or sorry,
- 23:37Speaker 1: the N series. You can dick around with it. You
- 23:41Speaker 1: can customize it, you can do launch control on it.
- 23:43Speaker 1: It's got all the track info on it, and it's all.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Come from Albert Bimman, who used to be the boss
- 23:48Speaker 2: of BMW'SM division. He was poached by Hyundai and he's
- 23:51Speaker 2: created all this stuff, and yeah, they're all the better
- 23:54Speaker 2: for it. He created my Stinger, yes he did, and
- 23:56Speaker 2: that thing's good as well. So yeah, I think that
- 23:59Speaker 2: I think that is really a fun car. And like
- 24:01Speaker 2: you said, it is the sweet spot because the ConA
- 24:03Speaker 2: feels a bit too much. It's a bit too much
- 24:06Speaker 2: like a tall hot hatch for the ENA's just a
- 24:08Speaker 2: hatch this is.
- 24:10Speaker 1: That's more. I think the ConA ends more more fun
- 24:12Speaker 1: kind of daily whereas this is definitely a car you
- 24:16Speaker 1: can track. It sort of reminded me a lot of
- 24:19Speaker 1: the what was it the Bloody three? Sorry, I'm just
- 24:27Speaker 1: I'm just getting something in my ear. What's that? Yes,
- 24:30Speaker 1: shoot to kill making disappear reminded me of like the
- 24:34Speaker 1: Type R.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a new one of those coming.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:40Speaker 2: That thing very much sacrificed all sorts of noisiness for
- 24:43Speaker 2: just track weapons. That thing was bloody crazy.
- 24:46Speaker 1: It looked like a kid had built it from.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Lego, Yes exactly. But look I'm no adult supervision.
- 24:53Speaker 1: No, no, that's right, but look this is I think this
- 24:56Speaker 1: is a great car. It's certainly fun. It sounds good
- 24:59Speaker 1: to Yeah, oh my god, the sound is incredible. It's
- 25:02Speaker 1: one of the best sounding cars out there really in
- 25:05Speaker 1: terms of like price point and what you're getting bang
- 25:08Speaker 1: for buck and stuff like that, I think it's really
- 25:09Speaker 1: well set up. Two disappointments I have. It does feel
- 25:12Speaker 1: a little bit tinny in terms of like when you
- 25:16Speaker 1: jump in like a mini, like a JCW Mini. Right,
- 25:20Speaker 1: it's got like a very even though it's built I
- 25:23Speaker 1: guess by BMW people. The Mini to me always felt
- 25:27Speaker 1: a bit sort of and I loved them. I had one.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Always felt a bit sort of yeah just thin, you
- 25:33Speaker 1: know what I mean. But this is and this is
- 25:36Speaker 1: in that same sort of realm. Definitely a car you
- 25:39Speaker 1: can throw about. One big disappointment I have with the interior.
- 25:42Speaker 1: It kind of feels a little bit and I know
- 25:44Speaker 1: you're paying what fifty five drive away, you're pretty much
- 25:47Speaker 1: paying basically, you're paying for tech and a pretty cool
- 25:50Speaker 1: little engine. The inside is plasticky and one.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Thing super plasticky I didn't notice that.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Yeah, it's one thing they did they didn't put in
- 25:59Speaker 1: this which was such a big disappointment, was the little
- 26:03Speaker 1: en logo in the overseas models like the America American
- 26:06Speaker 1: Model and whatnot lights up.
- 26:08Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Yeah, like would with an inline, Yeah yeah, but this
- 26:13Speaker 1: is just a different seat and it's kind of embroidered in.
- 26:16Speaker 1: It's just not as fun. But yeah, look it's a
- 26:18Speaker 1: great car for fifty five k effectively drive away. It's
- 26:23Speaker 1: a it's a fun little boy racer. It's the kind
- 26:25Speaker 1: of car you would have wanted in your late twenties. Yes,
- 26:28Speaker 1: mucking around and all sorts. Definitely, I would definitely speck
- 26:32Speaker 1: this out with the sun roof and go extra on
- 26:34Speaker 1: the paint. I'm not a big look that pale blue paint.
- 26:38Speaker 2: That hasn't dated that well.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I don't like it. Yeah, yeah, so I would definitely
- 26:42Speaker 1: shell out. And I think that.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Pale on the sedan it just doesn't work.
- 26:46Speaker 1: No, the pale blue paint looks has had its time,
- 26:50Speaker 1: but I think the whole car looks better if you
- 26:52Speaker 1: shell out for the metallic, which is I think the red.
- 26:56Speaker 1: What did I have? No, I had like I had
- 26:59Speaker 1: a ceramic gray similar to my own car.
- 27:01Speaker 2: No, it's like a Nato grace.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like it. So I think that's
- 27:04Speaker 1: about five hundred bucks. I think the sunroof is about
- 27:06Speaker 1: two grand. Ye, definitely worth shelling out for. And yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 1: definitely if you look, if you can get one like
- 27:12Speaker 1: this one, it's on the sale right now. Otherwise, I
- 27:16Speaker 1: think if you were to walk into a dealership and
- 27:18Speaker 1: try and buy one brand new, it's a little bit
- 27:21Speaker 1: of a weight. It's a little bit of a weight
- 27:22Speaker 1: like twelve months, but if you can get one, do
- 27:24Speaker 1: it because it could be could be a new classic.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeager, you never know?
- 27:30Speaker 1: All right, Well that's us.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I hope you enjoyed the show. And please, I
- 27:34Speaker 2: know we say this every time, but if you listen
- 27:36Speaker 2: to us saying this and you haven't done it, then
- 27:38Speaker 2: just do it. Leave us a rating on whatever platform
- 27:40Speaker 2: you're on, because it will help us grow and.
- 27:44Speaker 1: It will actually make me physically grow. I'm four foot tall.
- 27:48Speaker 2: To be any bigger than that.
- 27:50Speaker 1: And I'm four foot tall and look I look like.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Grant and his brother who's eaten a lot. Contact the
- 28:00Speaker 2: Drive Show dot com today if you want to email
- 28:01Speaker 2: us as well. We love reading your emails and sometimes
- 28:04Speaker 2: read them on the show as well.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Sometimes if I'm in a good mood, I don't have
- 28:07Speaker 1: my grumpy pants on. Daniel, Daniel, he got in contact?
- 28:13Speaker 2: Oh did he Yeah? Did he ask you to stop?
- 28:16Speaker 1: Yeah? He's apparently a lawyer is involved now, so.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Something that is ceasing and desisting.
- 28:21Speaker 1: There's something else cease and desist or cea section I'm
- 28:25Speaker 1: not questioning anyway, Live is rating. Thank you for listening.
- 28:29Speaker 1: See you later,
