- 1:23Speaker 1: detective paul arrived at his office to find his phone
- 1:26Speaker 1: ring It was Patrol Officer Prickles. It's Patrol Officer Prickles here.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There has been a serious incident at the Dreamy Creamy
- 1:33Speaker 1: Ice Cream Parlor. Can you get here as quickly as possible?
- 1:38Speaker 1: Detective Paul grabbed his notebook for writing down clues, his
- 1:42Speaker 1: magnifying glass for spotting teeny tiny clues, and headed out.
- 1:46Speaker 1: The Dreamy Creamy Ice Cream Parlor was just around the corner.
- 1:50Speaker 1: On his way, Detective Paul passed the park where the
- 1:53Speaker 1: Gordon's Cones ice cream bicycle cart was parked. It was
- 1:57Speaker 1: the right kind of day for ice cream, thought Detective Paul.
- 2:01Speaker 1: He arrived at the parlor, where a large model of
- 2:03Speaker 1: an ice cream cone stood outside the entrance. Inside the parlor,
- 2:08Speaker 1: Patrol Officer Prickles was waiting. This is Floella Flufftail, said
- 2:14Speaker 1: Patrol Officer Prickles, the owner of the parlor. Floella Flufftail
- 2:18Speaker 1: was wringing her hands. One of the customers were coughing
- 2:22Speaker 1: and spluttering. This is Mr. Amber Crombie. said patrol officer Prickles.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He has had an unfortunate experience. I'll say, spluttered Mr. Ambercrombie.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Please fetch Mr. Ambercrombie a glass of water, said Floella
- 2:39Speaker 1: to Sybil's slow-mo, the waitress. Took a little while for
- 2:43Speaker 1: Sybil to arrive with the water. Can't you hurry up,
- 2:47Speaker 1: gasped Mr. Ambercrombie. Eventually, Sybil reached the table. I am
- 2:52Speaker 1: so sorry, Mr. Ambercrombie. I have encouraged him Simple to
- 2:56Speaker 1: be a little quicker, but speed is not her thing,
- 2:59Speaker 1: said Floella. Some ice cream parlor this is, said Mr. Abercrombie.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Everyone calm down, said Detective Paul. Miss Flufftail, tell me
- 3:09Speaker 1: what happened. Mr. Abercrombie came in an order of vanilla
- 3:13Speaker 1: ice cream sundae with my special award-winning raspberry syrup, said Floella.
- 3:19Speaker 1: He asked for extra syrup. I wish I hadn't, said Mr. Abercrombie.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I served the sundae myself and Mr. Abercrombie took a bite.
- 3:28Speaker 1: That's when I found out my raspberry syrup had been
- 3:31Speaker 1: swapped for tomato ketchup, cried Folella. The bottle was the
- 3:35Speaker 1: same one I used for my syrup, but someone emptied
- 3:38Speaker 1: it out and put in ketchup. How could this have happened?
- 3:42Speaker 1: Ketchup on ice cream? Can you imagine? It tastes horrible,
- 3:46Speaker 1: says Mr. Abercrombie. Detective Paul shook his head. Tell me
- 3:52Speaker 1: what you've got, Prickles, he said. Patrol Officer Prickles consulted
- 3:56Speaker 1: his latest police issue electronic notepad. I arrived at the
- 4:01Speaker 1: scene of the crime at 9.02 a.m. I noticed the
- 4:04Speaker 1: following things. One, there's raspberry syrup in the sink. Two,
- 4:08Speaker 1: in the backyard there are some red drops in a
- 4:11Speaker 1: trail leading out the back gate through the alleyway to
- 4:14Speaker 1: the main road. Three, there's no sign of a break-in. Four,
- 4:18Speaker 1: the potted plant in the backyard has been knocked over.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Detective Paul nodded. Now I must ask that no one
- 4:25Speaker 1: leaves the parlor and no one comes in either, he said.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Patrol Officer Prickles put special issue police tape across the
- 4:33Speaker 1: door to make sure no one else could get into
- 4:37Speaker 1: the scene of the crime. Everyone looked at Detective Paul.
- 4:41Speaker 1: There was Mr. Amber Crombie, who was still coughing and spluttering.
- 4:46Speaker 1: There were Blaze, Jake, and Spike, the three members of
- 4:49Speaker 1: the Rowdy Riders gang. They had parked their BMX bikes outside.
- 4:53Speaker 1: There were Fuella, Flufftail, and the waitress, Sybil Slowmo. Detective
- 4:58Speaker 1: Paul popped a peppermint into his mouth to help him think.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I will get to the bottom of this, he said.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Chapter Two I need to speak with each of you,
- 5:08Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. Miss Flufftail, I will start with you.
- 5:12Speaker 1: They went into the kitchen. Detective Paul noticed a freezer
- 5:16Speaker 1: with a glass door. Inside was a large ice cream
- 5:19Speaker 1: cake with Wilma written in gold letters on top. I
- 5:23Speaker 1: have a birthday party booked for one o'clock today for
- 5:27Speaker 1: Wilma Sparkle, said Floella. I made the cake for her.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It's got raspberry, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream with butterscotch
- 5:34Speaker 1: crunch topping. She will be seven. Solve this crime, Detective Paul,
- 5:39Speaker 1: so the party can go ahead. Tell me how you
- 5:42Speaker 1: started your day, said Detective Paul. After I opened the parlor,
- 5:46Speaker 1: I went out front to water my window boxes. Then
- 5:49Speaker 1: Sybil arrived late. She's quite slow, as you have seen,
- 5:53Speaker 1: Floella said. Then I got my special raspberry syrup from
- 5:56Speaker 1: the kitchen and waited for the customers to arrive. You
- 5:59Speaker 1: know what happened after that. Detective Paul made some notes.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Tell me about the other customers here, he said. The
- 6:07Speaker 1: rowdy riders come in a lot, said Floella. They are
- 6:11Speaker 1: crazy about chocolate ice cream, but sometimes they are rowdy.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Yesterday I had to tell them to be quiet so
- 6:17Speaker 1: the other customers didn't. could enjoy their ice cream in peace.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Thank you, Miss Flufftail, said Detective Paul. That will be
- 6:24Speaker 1: all for now. Detective Paul called in the rowdy riders.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I hear you have been making too much noise, said
- 6:31Speaker 1: Detective Paul. Sorry, said Blaze. What were you doing last
- 6:36Speaker 1: night and this morning, Detective Paul asked them. We all
- 6:39Speaker 1: had a sleepover last night, said Jake. And this morning
- 6:42Speaker 1: we practiced nose willies in the park before coming here,
- 6:47Speaker 1: said Spike. Thank you, said Detective Paul. You may go
- 6:50Speaker 1: back to the parlor. Next was Sybil Slowmo, the waitress.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Detective Paul and Patrol Officer Prickles waited as she made
- 6:59Speaker 1: her way into the kitchen. She explained that she had
- 7:01Speaker 1: missed the bus that morning. That's why I was late,
- 7:04Speaker 1: she said. But I like working here. Miss Flufftail gave
- 7:08Speaker 1: me a pep talk about getting ice cream to the
- 7:11Speaker 1: table before it melts. I like a challenge. I'm getting better.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Sybil smiled. Thank you, said Detective Paul. That will be
- 7:19Speaker 1: all for now. What else have you got to show me, Prickles,
- 7:23Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. Prickles led him into the backyard. Detective
- 7:27Speaker 1: Paul used his magnifying glass to study the trail of
- 7:30Speaker 1: red spots. These are still wet, said Detective Paul. So
- 7:35Speaker 1: that means they were spilled this morning. He looked closer.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I think they are tomato ketchup. Can you test them, Prickles?
- 7:43Speaker 1: Patrol Officer Prickles used his special Police issued substance detector
- 7:49Speaker 1: kit to test the drops. The results were ketchup affirmative.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They followed the drops through the backyard, out the gate,
- 7:56Speaker 1: through the alleyway at the side of the shop, then
- 7:59Speaker 1: along the pavement for about a block where the drops stopped. Hmm,
- 8:03Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. Interesting. He made more notes. Prickles took
- 8:08Speaker 1: a photograph of the drops for investigative purposes. I wonder
- 8:12Speaker 1: why the drop stopped so suddenly, said Detective Paul. Maybe
- 8:16Speaker 1: someone was carrying a dripping ketchup bottle and got in
- 8:19Speaker 1: a vehicle of some kind right here and left. Chapter
- 8:24Speaker 1: 3 Detective Paul looked over to the park. He noticed
- 8:28Speaker 1: that Gordon's Cone's bicycle cart had a long line of customers.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Gordon's cart was not so busy when I passed it
- 8:35Speaker 1: this morning, said Detective Paul. Let's take a look. At
- 8:39Speaker 1: the ice cream cart, Detective Paul held up his badge
- 8:42Speaker 1: and said, Excuse me, sir, could I have a word
- 8:45Speaker 1: with you? Gordon came around from behind the cart limping.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Did you see anything unusual this morning outside the dreamy,
- 8:52Speaker 1: creamy ice cream parlor? said Detective Paul. No, said Gordon,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and I stubbed my toe this morning, so I don't
- 9:00Speaker 1: feel like talking. How did you stub your toe? said
- 9:04Speaker 1: Detective Paul. I forget, said Gordon. He looked away. That
- 9:08Speaker 1: will be all for now, said Detective Paul, stroking his mustache.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Gordon limped back behind the cart. Let's go for a
- 9:18Speaker 1: short walk, said Detective Paul to patrol officer Prickles. I
- 9:22Speaker 1: need to think. They strode down the street. Hmm, said
- 9:25Speaker 1: Detective Paul. The suspects I've interviewed so far all say
- 9:30Speaker 1: they were somewhere else this morning when the crime was committed,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and I think they are telling the truth. So who
- 9:36Speaker 1: could be the culprit? detective paul scratched his head this
- 9:40Speaker 1: is a two peppermint problem he popped another peppermint into
- 9:44Speaker 1: his mouth to help him think extra hard after he
- 9:47Speaker 1: had thought extra hard he said i have a feeling
- 9:50Speaker 1: gordon is not telling us something did you notice the
- 9:54Speaker 1: way he couldn't look me in the eye i want
- 9:56Speaker 1: to have another chat with him chapter four as they
- 10:01Speaker 1: arrived back at gordon's detective paul spot an empty bottle
- 10:05Speaker 1: of tomato ketchup in the trash can behind the cart
- 10:09Speaker 1: hmm said detective paul he made some notes and prickles
- 10:13Speaker 1: took a photograph of the trash can for investigative purposes
- 10:18Speaker 1: Detective Paul stepped to the front of the line. Gordon,
- 10:22Speaker 1: he said, I couldn't help but notice an empty bottle
- 10:25Speaker 1: of ketchup in your trash can. So what, said Gordon. Well,
- 10:29Speaker 1: said Detective Paul, someone swapped Miss Flufftail's award-winning raspberry syrup
- 10:34Speaker 1: for ketchup this morning, and she can't open her ice
- 10:37Speaker 1: cream parlor until we found out who did it. And
- 10:40Speaker 1: if she can't open the parlor, the birthday party will
- 10:43Speaker 1: have to be canceled. Well, that's too bad for Wilma,
- 10:46Speaker 1: said Gordon. but that has nothing to do with me.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Gordon said to Detective Paul, you're under arrest for swapping
- 10:54Speaker 1: the raspberry syrup for tomato ketchup with bad intentions. Take
- 10:58Speaker 1: him into custody, Prickles. But before Patrol Officer Prickles could
- 11:03Speaker 1: get the handcuffs on, Gordon jumped onto his bike and
- 11:07Speaker 1: pedaled off as fast as he could. Quick, Prickles, shouted
- 11:12Speaker 1: Detective Paul. Let's take your car. They raced to Patrol
- 11:16Speaker 1: Officer Prickles's arrestor police car which was outside police headquarters
- 11:21Speaker 1: jumped in and sped off don't lose him prickles shouted
- 11:25Speaker 1: detective paul as they saw gordon turn a corner on
- 11:28Speaker 1: the road ahead patrol officer prickles took the corner at
- 11:32Speaker 1: high speed controlling the wheel with his excellent steering reflexes
- 11:36Speaker 1: and the use of his police issue touch grip driving
- 11:40Speaker 1: gloves soon they were just inches away from gordon The
- 11:43Speaker 1: hot sun was super bright, glinting off the windshield into
- 11:46Speaker 1: patrol officer Prickles' eyes. He wasn't bothered because he was
- 11:50Speaker 1: wearing his police-issue, non-reflected, polarized sunglasses with side visors. Blinded
- 11:57Speaker 1: by the sun, Gordon squinted his eyes as he lost
- 12:01Speaker 1: control of his bicycle cart. Screech! Crash! Patrol officer Prickles
- 12:07Speaker 1: made a reverse spin, pulling up to the rest of
- 12:09Speaker 1: her car safely to the curb. He jumped out and
- 12:12Speaker 1: handcuffed Gordon, who luckily wasn't hurt, just very sticky. Patrol
- 12:17Speaker 1: Officer Perkels put him in the car once Detective Paul
- 12:20Speaker 1: had put down some paper towels to protect the seats.
- 12:24Speaker 1: It's better if you tell the truth, said Detective Paul
- 12:27Speaker 1: to Gordon. Well, a fluff tells ice cream was better
- 12:29Speaker 1: than mine, and I don't have a special raspberry syrup,
- 12:32Speaker 1: so her parlor got all the customers, said Gordon. I
- 12:35Speaker 1: wanted to stop people from going there so they would
- 12:38Speaker 1: come to me. I parked my bicycle cart a block
- 12:41Speaker 1: away this morning, he continued. And when Floella Flufftoe went
- 12:45Speaker 1: out to water her petunias, she left the door open.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I sneaked along the wall, hid behind the big ice cream,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and slipped through the parlor into the kitchen, where I
- 12:55Speaker 1: emptied the syrup bottle and squeezed the ketchup bottle to
- 12:58Speaker 1: fill it back up. I ran out the back door,
- 13:01Speaker 1: but I stubbed my toe on the stupid plant pot.
- 13:04Speaker 1: The ketchup drops were a clue, said Detective Paul. On
- 13:08Speaker 1: the way back to police headquarters, the police car stopped
- 13:11Speaker 1: outside the dreamy, creamy ice cream parlor. It was almost
- 13:14Speaker 1: one o'clock, and Wilma Sparkles and her family were waiting
- 13:18Speaker 1: outside with fingers crossed. Detective Paul stepped out to speak
- 13:22Speaker 1: to everyone. I am pleased to say we have arrested
- 13:25Speaker 1: the person who spoiled the ice cream, so you will
- 13:28Speaker 1: be able to have the party after all. A cheer
- 13:31Speaker 1: went up. Back at police headquarters, Detective Paul said to Gordon,
- 13:36Speaker 1: What you did was wrong. It affected Mr. Ambercrombie, and
- 13:40Speaker 1: if we hadn't caught you, people might have heard about
- 13:43Speaker 1: it and thought Ms. Flufftail was careless. You nearly ruined
- 13:46Speaker 1: the party of Wilma Sparkles, who is seven today. How
- 13:50Speaker 1: did you know it was me? asked Gordon. That was easy,
- 13:53Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. You knew the name of the person
- 13:56Speaker 1: having the birthday party. You couldn't have known that unless
- 13:59Speaker 1: you had seen the birthday cake, and then the fact
- 14:02Speaker 1: that you'd seen the cake meant you'd been in the kitchen.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Detective Paul explained to Gordon that it is wrong to
- 14:08Speaker 1: spoil someone else's hard work just because you aren't doing
- 14:11Speaker 1: very well. It's much better to improve yourself and work
- 14:14Speaker 1: together with people. Gordon was sent to a jail cell
- 14:18Speaker 1: to wait for Judge Schoen to decide his punishment. Detective
- 14:23Speaker 1: Paul had an iced coffee to celebrate. Patrol Officer Prickles
- 14:26Speaker 1: had iced tea. It had been a sticky case, but
- 14:29Speaker 1: thanks to their crime-solving partnership, It had all been cleaned up,
- 14:34Speaker 1: and Big City was a little bit safer. Our next
- 14:38Speaker 1: book is titled Detective Paul of the Law, The Case
- 14:41Speaker 1: of Piggy's Bank. And it was published by Albert Whitman
- 14:49Speaker 1: and Company. It has a copyright year of 2018, and
- 14:53Speaker 1: the author is Dosh Archer. Prologue. In the heart of
- 14:58Speaker 1: Big City is Big City Police Headquarters, home to the
- 15:01Speaker 1: Big City Police Force. This is where Detective Paul works
- 15:05Speaker 1: with his assistant, Patrol Officer Prickles. Sharp-eyed and straight-talking, Detective
- 15:10Speaker 1: Paul can outthink any criminal with his brilliant brain. Patrol
- 15:15Speaker 1: Officer Prickles is brave and loyal and has all the
- 15:17Speaker 1: latest police-issued crime-fighting gadgets. He's always there to help Detective Paul. Together,
- 15:24Speaker 1: they solve crime. That's what they both love doing. although
- 15:27Speaker 1: it's not always easy. Chapter One It was early on
- 15:31Speaker 1: Monday morning at Big City Police Headquarters. Detective Paul was
- 15:35Speaker 1: just about to bite into his donut when his phone rang.
- 15:38Speaker 1: It was Patrol Officer Prickles. It's Patrol Officer Prickles here.
- 15:43Speaker 1: There has been a robbery at Piggy's Bank. Can you
- 15:45Speaker 1: get here as quick as possible to solve the crime
- 15:48Speaker 1: and find the robber? Secure the scene, Prickles, said Detective Paul.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I am on my way. Detective Paul left his donut uneaten,
- 15:57Speaker 1: grabbed his notebook and pencil for writing down clues, and
- 16:01Speaker 1: his magnifying glass for spotting teeny tiny clues, and leaped
- 16:05Speaker 1: into his vintage mobile. He put the blue flashy light
- 16:09Speaker 1: on the top and sped to the scene of the crime.
- 16:12Speaker 1: When he arrived at the bank, he noticed there was
- 16:14Speaker 1: a big shiny brand new pork power car with a
- 16:18Speaker 1: license plate Piggy 1 parked right outside. Patrol Officer Prickles
- 16:24Speaker 1: was waiting for him inside the bank. The scene is secure, sir,
- 16:27Speaker 1: he said. Well done, Prickles, said Detective Paul. Let me
- 16:31Speaker 1: know what you've got. Patrol Officer Prickles took out his
- 16:34Speaker 1: latest police-issue electronic notebook. I arrived at the scene with
- 16:38Speaker 1: the crime at 9.04 a.m. I was responding to a
- 16:42Speaker 1: call from Piggy, the bank manager. He called to say
- 16:45Speaker 1: the bank had been broken into. I noticed the following things. One,
- 16:50Speaker 1: the side window was broken. Two, the safe door was open. Three,
- 16:54Speaker 1: there was a crowbar on the floor. Four, the safe
- 16:57Speaker 1: was empty. Well done, Prickles, said Detective Paul. Good work. Piggy,
- 17:03Speaker 1: the bank manager, rolled his eyes. I was the first
- 17:07Speaker 1: one here this morning. Someone must have smashed the window,
- 17:10Speaker 1: jumped in, broken open the safe, and made off with
- 17:13Speaker 1: the money. Piggy made his eyes go wide. It must
- 17:16Speaker 1: have been a big, scary robber, he said. The rest
- 17:20Speaker 1: of the staff gathered around the empty safe. There was Doritha,
- 17:24Speaker 1: the cashier, and Stanley, the security guard. Doritha, the cashier, gasped. Mrs.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Batterby's life savings. Poor old lady. She's 101. She was
- 17:35Speaker 1: in the bank last thing on Friday. She came in
- 17:39Speaker 1: and left her life savings in our care, and now
- 17:41Speaker 1: every single penny is gone. Poor Mrs. Batterby, said Stanley,
- 17:47Speaker 1: the security guard. She is a friend of my mom.
- 17:50Speaker 1: She is a really nice lady. I don't know how
- 17:53Speaker 1: this could have happened. Patrol Officer Prickles looked at Detective Paul.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Detective Paul twiddled his mustache and popped a peppermint into
- 18:01Speaker 1: his mouth to help him think. Everyone calm down, he said.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I will get to the bottom of this. Chapter 2
- 18:09Speaker 1: Detective Paul went over to the broken window and looked
- 18:11Speaker 1: at the sidewalk outside. He took out his notebook and
- 18:15Speaker 1: pencil and made some notes. Hmm, he said. That sure
- 18:19Speaker 1: is interesting for my investigation. Patrol Officer Prickles took some
- 18:24Speaker 1: photographs of the window with his latest police issue camera.
- 18:28Speaker 1: He looked at the photos and scratched his head. What
- 18:31Speaker 1: can it all mean? He asked Detective Paul. Detective Paul
- 18:35Speaker 1: twiddled his mustache. The broken glass from the window was
- 18:38Speaker 1: lying outside on the sidewalk. That means the window was
- 18:41Speaker 1: broken from the inside and not the outside. He turned
- 18:45Speaker 1: around to speak to everyone. The evidence shows whoever did
- 18:48Speaker 1: this was perfectly able to get into the bank without
- 18:52Speaker 1: having to break in at all. There's a long silence
- 18:55Speaker 1: and a lot of uncomfortable looks. Who has keys to
- 18:58Speaker 1: the bank, asked Detective Paul. Why, we all do, cried Dorothea.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Then that means, said Detective Paul, the person who stole
- 19:07Speaker 1: the money is in this room. But we are all
- 19:10Speaker 1: good people, cried Dorothea. With all due respect, ma'am, said
- 19:14Speaker 1: Detective Paul, That remains to be seen. Chapter 3 I
- 19:22Speaker 1: will need to speak with each one of you and
- 19:25Speaker 1: find out where you were this weekend, said Detective Paul. Dorothea,
- 19:29Speaker 1: the cashier, I will start with you. I was at
- 19:32Speaker 1: a spelling bee all weekend, said Dorothea. I came in
- 19:35Speaker 1: second place. I didn't know how to spell bumfuzzle. I
- 19:39Speaker 1: hope you have learned how to spell it now, said
- 19:41Speaker 1: Detective Paul. Yes, sir, said Dorothea. I went straight home
- 19:45Speaker 1: on Friday night, said Stanley, to my room to work
- 19:48Speaker 1: on my model airplane. I live with my mom. She'd
- 19:51Speaker 1: tell you it's true. She kept bringing me hot chocolate.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I took all weekend to build it. It's nearly finished.
- 19:58Speaker 1: He pulled out his phone and showed Detective Paul a
- 20:00Speaker 1: photograph of his model P-65 Thunderblast. Very nice, said Detective Paul.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Detective Paul fixed his gaze on Piggy. What did you
- 20:10Speaker 1: do this weekend, he asked him. Piggy rolled his eyes
- 20:13Speaker 1: and pulled out a peanut butter cup from his pocket
- 20:15Speaker 1: and munched on it. He mumbled something and some crumbs
- 20:19Speaker 1: fell out of his mouth and onto the floor. It
- 20:22Speaker 1: is very rude to speak with your mouth full, said
- 20:24Speaker 1: Detective Paul. And you haven't answered my question. What did
- 20:28Speaker 1: you do this weekend? I went flying, said Piggy, finishing
- 20:33Speaker 1: off the peanut butter cup and licking his lipstick. In
- 20:36Speaker 1: my new airplane, a real airplane, that is, not a
- 20:39Speaker 1: model one. Gosh, said Stanley, a real airplane, wow. Detective
- 20:45Speaker 1: Paul scratched his head. Patrol officer prickles and I need
- 20:48Speaker 1: to talk, he said. Whenever I want to go into
- 20:50Speaker 1: the other room. They all went into the other room. Hmm,
- 20:54Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. One of them is lying, but which one?
- 20:58Speaker 1: This is a two peppermint problem, Detective Paul. Popped another
- 21:02Speaker 1: peppermint into his mouth to help him think extra hard.
- 21:06Speaker 1: After he had thought extra hard, he said, That piggy
- 21:09Speaker 1: seems a bit too big for his boots. I have
- 21:11Speaker 1: a feeling there is something else we need to discover. Right,
- 21:15Speaker 1: said Patrol Officer Prickles. Detective Paul started looking around the
- 21:19Speaker 1: room again with his magnifying glass. Patrol Officer Prickles took
- 21:23Speaker 1: out his latest police issue super-powered flashlight and looked under
- 21:27Speaker 1: the rug in all the dark corners. He could see
- 21:32Speaker 1: very well using the flashlight. but he didn't find any clues. Aha,
- 21:37Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. Look, Prickles, mark on the safe door,
- 21:43Speaker 1: but no marks on the safe lock. Detective Paul looked
- 21:48Speaker 1: even more closely at the lock through his magnifying glass.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That means, said Detective Paul, this safe was open. Someone
- 21:55Speaker 1: left that crowbar on the floor to make us think
- 21:58Speaker 1: it was broken into. Whoever did this knows the secret combination.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Patrol Officer Prickles took a photograph of the safe lock
- 22:06Speaker 1: with its latest police-issued camera for evidence. Wait a minute,
- 22:10Speaker 1: said Detective Paul, taking out his magnifying glass. He had
- 22:14Speaker 1: spotted something else, some teeny tiny stuff just inside the safe.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Look at this, Prickles, said Detective Paul. I think this
- 22:23Speaker 1: could be our most important clue yet. Chapter 4. What
- 22:29Speaker 1: is it? asked Patrol Officer Prickles. Crumbs, said Detective Paul,
- 22:34Speaker 1: from my peanut butter cup. Prickles, said Detective Paul, opening
- 22:38Speaker 1: his notebook. Let's go over everything we know so far. One,
- 22:42Speaker 1: the window and safe were not broken. And two, whoever
- 22:46Speaker 1: did this has keys to the bank and the combination
- 22:48Speaker 1: number for the safe. Two, a lot of money was
- 22:51Speaker 1: stolen and Piggy has a new airplane and a new car. Three,
- 22:55Speaker 1: I found peanut butter cup crumbs inside the safe and
- 22:58Speaker 1: Piggy eats them. Peanut butter cups, said Patrol Officer Prickles. Exactly,
- 23:04Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. I think I know who our criminal is.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Let's get them all back in. Everyone stood in front
- 23:11Speaker 1: of Detective Paul and Patrol Officer Prickles. Detective Paul pointed
- 23:15Speaker 1: to the safe. Is it true that you, Piggy, are
- 23:18Speaker 1: the only one, being the very important manager of this bank,
- 23:21Speaker 1: the head person, the only one who has the combination
- 23:24Speaker 1: number to the safe? Piggy puffed up his chest. He
- 23:28Speaker 1: loved feeling important. Why, yes, he said. I am a
- 23:31Speaker 1: very important person. Detective Paul gave Piggy a very hard stare.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Then can you explain why the safe was open and
- 23:39Speaker 1: not broken into and why I found peanut butter cup
- 23:42Speaker 1: crumbs inside the safe and how you've been able to
- 23:45Speaker 1: buy a brand new car and an airplane? Piggy clamped
- 23:48Speaker 1: his trotters over his mouth and he realized he had
- 23:51Speaker 1: been outsmarted. He leaped up and made a dash out
- 23:54Speaker 1: the door towards his car with patrol officer Prickles in
- 23:58Speaker 1: hot pursuit. Piggy was fast, but Patrol Officer Prickles was faster. Quick, Prickles,
- 24:04Speaker 1: shouted Detective Paul. Don't let him get in his car
- 24:07Speaker 1: or we'll lose him. Piggy grabbed his car door handle,
- 24:11Speaker 1: but Patrol Officer Prickles lunged, caught Piggy by the back trotters,
- 24:16Speaker 1: and brought him down. Piggy wriggled and jiggled, but Patrol
- 24:19Speaker 1: Officer Prickles was wearing his latest police issue EXE strong
- 24:24Speaker 1: grip gloves, and Piggy could not escape. Good work, Prickles,
- 24:28Speaker 1: said Detective Paul. He took hold of Piggy and marched
- 24:32Speaker 1: him back into the bank so fast his trotters didn't
- 24:35Speaker 1: even touch the ground. We know it was you, said
- 24:38Speaker 1: Detective Paul. But why, Piggy, why? cried Dorothea. I'm bum-fuzzled.
- 24:44Speaker 1: You have enough money. You're the manager of a bank.
- 24:47Speaker 1: We all trusted you. Mrs. Battersby trusted you. And she
- 24:51Speaker 1: is 101 years old. Piggy sneered. You can never have
- 24:56Speaker 1: enough money, but none of you would understand that. I
- 24:58Speaker 1: was fed up with just one house and one car
- 25:01Speaker 1: and one swimming pool. I wanted more. I got a
- 25:04Speaker 1: Newport power car and an airplane and a mansion and
- 25:08Speaker 1: a flat-screen television and a lifetime supply of peanut butter cups,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and I could have gotten away with it if it
- 25:14Speaker 1: wasn't for these two troublesome cops, he glared at Detective
- 25:18Speaker 1: Paul and Patrol Officer Prickles. So there was no robber,
- 25:22Speaker 1: asked Stanley. No, Stanley, said Detective Paul. Piggy stayed behind
- 25:27Speaker 1: on Friday after he left. First, he smashed the window
- 25:30Speaker 1: to make it look like someone had broken in, then
- 25:32Speaker 1: used the crowbar to bash the safe to make it
- 25:34Speaker 1: look like it had been broken open. As well as
- 25:39Speaker 1: being a greedy thief, Piggy here is also a liar.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Detective Paul turned to Piggy. It is very bad, said
- 25:46Speaker 1: Detective Paul, to steal when you are meant to be
- 25:48Speaker 1: looking after people's money. An extremely bad tale lies. You
- 25:52Speaker 1: are a very greedy piggy, and now your lies have
- 25:55Speaker 1: caught you out. Patrol Officer Prickles clamped a pair of
- 25:59Speaker 1: the latest police issue EXE steel handcuffs on Piggy. Try
- 26:03Speaker 1: getting out of those, he said. Outside the bank, a
- 26:06Speaker 1: crowd had gathered. They had seen the police cars and
- 26:09Speaker 1: heard all the money had been stolen from the bank.
- 26:12Speaker 1: When Patrol Officer Prickles marched Piggy outside, Mrs. Battersby pushed
- 26:16Speaker 1: her way to the front and shook her finger at Piggy.
- 26:19Speaker 1: How dare you, she said. Now you will get what
- 26:22Speaker 1: you deserve. Yes, he will, ma'am, said Detective Paul, and
- 26:27Speaker 1: you will get every penny of your money back. Then
- 26:29Speaker 1: Patrol Officer Prickles bundled Piggy into his latest police-issue arrestor car.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Back at Big City Police Headquarters, Piggy was put behind bars.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Good work, said Patrol Officer Prickles. I couldn't have done
- 26:42Speaker 1: it without you, said Detective Paul. Detective Paul had a
- 26:46Speaker 1: cup of coffee and finished his donuts. Patrol Officer Prickles
- 26:49Speaker 1: had a strawberry almond milkshake and a banana. It had
- 26:53Speaker 1: been a difficult case, but together they cracked it, and
- 26:56Speaker 1: Big City was a little bit safer thanks to Patrol
- 26:59Speaker 1: Officer Prickles and Detective Paul. This concludes the Children's Story
