- 0:00Because I'm willing to go to jail to impede ICE.
- 0:03I don't want to go to prison. If you run for office, I will I
- 0:07will convert. I like hearing the perspective
- 0:11of the other side of a guy that is not a raging asshole.
- 0:17Welcome to Bourbon and Rum, the podcast dedicated to civil
- 0:21conversation. I'm Kent, I like rum and I'm
- 0:24from the left side of the aisle. And I'm Kyle.
- 0:26I like bourbon. I tend to be a little more
- 0:28conservative Brothers talking politics for bourbon and rug.
- 0:43What are you drinking? I am drinking a bottle.
- 0:48Well, I'm, I'm, I'm not drinking the whole bottle, but I'm
- 0:50drinking out of a bottle of Old Forest or single barrel barrel
- 0:55strength. I picked up.
- 0:56You're seeing this a lot at a lot of a lot of liquor stores do
- 0:59this as a barrel pack. And so they'll like this is a a
- 1:01liquor store. We're at a volleyball tournament
- 1:04with my daughter this weekend and there's a liquor store
- 1:06nearby and they had this, but you're starting to see it
- 1:09cheaper. But it's 131 proof, but super
- 1:12smooth. And old Forester, you know, they
- 1:14got a whole line of stuff. But I did find an interesting
- 1:17fun fact. Old Forester is the only
- 1:20distillery to have operated under the same brand before,
- 1:24during and after prohibition. So.
- 1:27Oh wow, interesting. Really smooth.
- 1:29Stuff, it's good stuff. What do you now?
- 1:31Now Full disclosure, Kent just got back from a a yacht trip to
- 1:35the Caribbean. So I'm expecting him to have
- 1:38cases of of Caribbean room. No, I bought 2/5 back but I
- 1:44didn't find the one that the whole time.
- 1:46We found a really good sipper called Sparrow Sparrows.
- 1:53It's made in Saint Vincent and it was a really good like a all
- 1:58day sipper. But in the spirit of the
- 2:02podcast, I brought 2 bottles back.
- 2:04I'm not going to spoil the surprise on the one, but this
- 2:10one is called Rivers and I sent you a link.
- 2:15The reviews are just out of like insane.
- 2:21It's a white rum, it's UN aged, it's unfiltered, it's made in
- 2:27hand pot stills and this is made in the oldest distillery for rum
- 2:36in the world that still uses the old traditional methods.
- 2:41So Mount Gay in Barbados was opened a couple years before
- 2:45this one, but they've gone more commercial.
- 2:49This stuff is right out of the tap.
- 2:53It's this is the export version, which is bottled at 138 proof.
- 3:04The in house stuff is like 151. And the cab driver was like,
- 3:12yeah, if if somebody opens a bottle of this in the house,
- 3:17everybody knows. Yeah, I wish you could smell.
- 3:20It smells like. I don't know if it smells good
- 3:26or if it smells like a chemistry set.
- 3:30It is incredible. So anyway, here's a here's a dab
- 3:36of that. Cheers to you.
- 3:39You're here. Well, good.
- 3:41Hey, I was gone for a week. So we've got we're a little
- 3:44behind on our podcast, but what did anything happen in the world
- 3:49while I was gone? Yeah, I don't think so, Ken.
- 3:52It's been really quiet now. Your boat wasn't, you were
- 3:56cruising up near Greenland, were you?
- 3:59Hopefully you weren't cruising up in that area.
- 4:02But there's big news there. There's big news a lot going on
- 4:07in Minnesota that's a little closer to home for you at the
- 4:10figure. That might be an area that we
- 4:12could dig into because there's been a lot of, a lot of news
- 4:16over that over the last couple weeks.
- 4:18So I'm sure you, I, I, I'm sure you don't have any strong
- 4:22opinions about that subject. So you know well all these news
- 4:26stories, you'll, you'll be very you.
- 4:29You won't have any strong opinions.
- 4:31We might be safer with Greenland 'cause that's just merely
- 4:34stupid. The other I think I could
- 4:38probably get into pretty bad territory pretty quickly.
- 4:43Well, let's start with Greenland.
- 4:44Let me ask you this. If there is a national security
- 4:50and geopolitical angle for the US to have some control over
- 4:54Greenland, I don't know, but maybe if there is.
- 5:00If if that was your objective, do you think being a complete
- 5:05ass to the people of Greenland and giving the finger repeatedly
- 5:11to Denmark is the likeliest path to get you there, rather than
- 5:16some sort of diplomacy and money sort of strategy?
- 5:21Yeah, well, remains to be seen. I think that's his.
- 5:24Whether you like it or whether we debate whether it's effective
- 5:28or wise is another story. But I think it's typical Trump
- 5:32of he starts talking about something he wants and then
- 5:36slowly the the heat turns up until you get to a negotiation.
- 5:41I don't know that it's going to work.
- 5:43To your point, I think there's I don't think he's the only person
- 5:48to have thought of strategic value of that territory.
- 5:52But to your point, there's probably other pathways to
- 5:55secure it, but I think it's a bigger, the security play of it
- 6:02is of interest the, the Chinese and the the Russian interest in
- 6:08that area as well. So I don't know.
- 6:11I, yeah, I don't, I, I'm with you.
- 6:13It seems pretty unconventional, but that's also his approach.
- 6:16So I don't know if the tariff thing is going to move the
- 6:20needle. But I did laugh.
- 6:22They were all these European countries were headed up there.
- 6:24We're going to send troops. Great Britain sent one army
- 6:30officer, so apparently they don't see too much of A threat
- 6:33there. Well.
- 6:35Again, to try to avoid this just becoming a bitch fest.
- 6:39Like even if I thought it was a good idea, I honestly am neutral
- 6:46about whether it's a good idea. I there's rare earth minerals.
- 6:49It's closer to our part of the world.
- 6:51Like, sure, but well, maybe using this a little bit to pivot
- 6:59because we're going to talk about immigration and we're
- 7:01going to talk about ICE and what's happening in Minnesota.
- 7:04And I guess, you know, I come back to it.
- 7:08Your whole thing was that you wanted the border secure.
- 7:12I wish Biden had secured that. I'm in favor of a secure border.
- 7:16I'm I'm not anti border law, but why didn't Trump just close the
- 7:24border? Why?
- 7:26Why? The, I mean, you know, again, I
- 7:31think we've established he's not deporting at nearly the rate
- 7:34previous Democrat presidents have.
- 7:36So, I mean, there's 20 million people that came across during
- 7:40Biden administration and he's looking to deport those, I mean.
- 7:43That was a key. I don't think 20 million came
- 7:46across in the four years of the Biden administration.
- 7:48I think we're talking about 20 million something total, but I
- 7:53don't know about that. But OK, so you got to close the
- 7:57border and you got to deport people.
- 7:59Why? Why you got to dehumanize people
- 8:02along the way? Like are are your is your reason
- 8:05not enough to just be the reason?
- 8:08Do we have to to fan hatred like that?
- 8:13I don't understand if your if your message is important.
- 8:17If Greenland is important enough to go get for our country, then
- 8:21it's good enough to do it without threatening to roll in
- 8:26True like like why you got to do all that?
- 8:30It tells me it it it makes me think that the real reason for
- 8:35getting Greenland isn't that good and I've got to do some
- 8:40kind of bullshit fan the flames thing to do it.
- 8:45It makes me think that it's not important enough for you or for
- 8:49anybody else to just close the border and deport people when we
- 8:53got to wrap it in a veneer of hatred and racism.
- 9:00Like then maybe it's not that important to begin with.
- 9:03Or maybe it's just ICE doing their job just like they did on
- 9:08the Biden administration. But you got a governor and you
- 9:12got a mayor that's out there saying that ICE are terrorists,
- 9:16they're Nazis, they're horrible people.
- 9:18They need to get out of our state.
- 9:19We need to attack them. You know, that's my beef with
- 9:23this Minnesota thing is, you know, we had that conversation
- 9:27about, well, Trump is inflamed. His rhetoric inflamed a crowd to
- 9:32go attack the Capitol on January 6th.
- 9:35The rhetoric out of the left is what's causing the the riots and
- 9:40the violence and the encounters with ICE.
- 9:42They just let ICE do their job and shut up about it.
- 9:46It wouldn't be on the front page of the news.
- 9:48Why? Why is ICE in Minnesota, pound
- 9:51for pound, if you're worried about illegal immigrants?
- 9:56Ice is in Texas. Ice is ice is not in Texas.
- 10:00They are not in Texas at the scale, not at the scale they are
- 10:04in Minnesota. They completely chose Minnesota
- 10:08to try to embarrass Tim Walz, to try to fan these flames.
- 10:13All of this. What Trump wants is he wants to
- 10:16to piss normal people off enough that they protest and then use
- 10:21protests as an excuse to bring in more force.
- 10:27It's completely manufactured. Totally disagree.
- 10:31I mean, you don't. You don't think Waltz and that
- 10:33mayor's rhetoric has impacted the turn of events in that?
- 10:39State. Probably that.
- 10:42Poor lady that got shot for instance, Why the hell is she
- 10:45out there in the first place? She was going to pick up her kid
- 10:49from daycare. So she's harassing police and
- 10:55out there for hours harassing police because.
- 10:57She wasn't harassed and she was driving away.
- 11:01She was out. There messing with them for like
- 11:03a couple hours before that whole incident occurred.
- 11:08And who's if you think? That urging these people to go
- 11:11mess with law enforcement in the first place.
- 11:13If you think that the ICE actions in Minnesota are normal
- 11:20course of business driven by the need to round up people in
- 11:27Minnesota, then you're out of your mind.
- 11:30This was a strategy designed from the start by the Trump
- 11:34administration, and they said so like they've been like, there's
- 11:39not a secret about this. They're picking Democrat places
- 11:43to try to stir trouble up. Or OK, but another way to
- 11:47looking at it is all these Democrat cities that all
- 11:50flaunted all of the immigration laws in place for the last
- 11:55umpteen years where a sanctuary city, where a sanctuary city
- 11:58come this way, come this way. And I think that led to a lot of
- 12:03the crossings to begin with. I I just think that if you're
- 12:08really worried, if you're really worried about the numbers about
- 12:11illegal immigrants, what's the poundage, Texas versus
- 12:15Minnesota? Well, I mean.
- 12:18Texas, Does it have sanctuary cities?
- 12:23But you've probably still got more Hispanic immigrants in
- 12:26Texas than you do in Minnesota. Am I wrong?
- 12:30Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what the.
- 12:32So if they're the problem and that's who we're looking for,
- 12:36why aren't we looking at Houston?
- 12:40Yeah, I mean, what? They're operating here, that's
- 12:42what I'm saying. I mean, they're operating
- 12:44nationwide. I don't think that it's
- 12:50nationwide. It's not pro rata to what the
- 12:53problem is. I mean, do you legitimately
- 12:58think that the Trump administration is making a
- 13:01rational decision about where to deploy ICE?
- 13:04Everything the guy does, the guy doesn't take a crap without
- 13:07trying to piss somebody off politically.
- 13:09We're talking about this is our talk.
- 13:10About This is orchestrated by Trump.
- 13:11You don't think they have an organization and a leadership
- 13:13team that figures out how to go operate?
- 13:18You think everything that they do is Trump?
- 13:20Ordered the leadership team, the Christie Gnome.
- 13:24She she, she calls it before she goes to.
- 13:27The bathroom awarded a medal by Obama.
- 13:32That was now did he pay for that medal?
- 13:35Was that with the 50 grand or was that before or after?
- 13:38Am I getting that messed up? The bribe that Tom Homan took in
- 13:42a paper bag full of money. That time moment $50,000 in a
- 13:49paper bag. Tell me the good reasons. 2015,
- 13:53President Obama awarded him the Presidential Rank Award for
- 13:58Distinguished Service. Anyways, I don't think we're
- 14:04going to find consensus here. It's possible.
- 14:06No, we're not going to find consensus.
- 14:08It has been ICE has been weaponized by the everything in
- 14:12this administration has been weaponized.
- 14:14And I will be the first to admit that I thought there was
- 14:20Democratic overreach with the prosecution of Trump.
- 14:23I think he ought to be in jail, but I don't think that we should
- 14:27have. I don't think the Democrats
- 14:29should have prosecuted at least for the property thing.
- 14:34The national secrets in the crap are at Mar a Lago.
- 14:39Maybe, but but like there, there's culpability on the
- 14:42Democrats. But now it's like open season
- 14:45and I think you think I'm nuts and I'm paranoid.
- 14:49And I'm telling you that there's going to be a day, I hope our
- 14:53podcast last this long. There's going to be a day when
- 14:56there's a Democrat administration.
- 14:58It's probably going to be a Democrat administration that is
- 15:01more liberal than I am. It's probably going to be a
- 15:05Democrat administration that is a hell of a lot less friendly
- 15:09and tolerant to things that are really important to you.
- 15:13And there's going to come a day when the weaponization of the
- 15:16government is going to be directed at things that matter
- 15:19to you. And I'm going to say to you on
- 15:21that day that remember. Already saw it in the last
- 15:25administration. It was all over the place.
- 15:28I mean, it's not like what? It's not like it didn't happen
- 15:32of. Course like what?
- 15:33What did? What did they?
- 15:34Do with the all of the Trump trials or you know, the
- 15:39involvement in Twitter and the persecution of people you know,
- 15:42prior to Elon Musk buying Twitter and you know, the
- 15:45government censoring what the hell people can say about the
- 15:48COVID vaccine and the COVID virus.
- 15:50I mean, yeah. I mean, you don't get that.
- 15:54Cat's been out of the bag a long time, so I I don't, I don't
- 15:59imagine a place that it's not going to happen.
- 16:03Unfortunately. Well, buckle up because it's not
- 16:06going to be good. It's not good for the country
- 16:09and this is not good. This this targeting of
- 16:14Democratic cities, Minnesota, of all of the places, of all the
- 16:20places. Operating in Texas, they're
- 16:22operating in California, they're operating in Louisiana, they're
- 16:24operating North Carolina. New Jersey number of agents per
- 16:28population of illegal How? Many public officials are out
- 16:32there telling their people to go protest them and fight them
- 16:36because they're terrorists and Nazis.
- 16:38The. Reason that they're yeah, I
- 16:43missed our church had a session today after church like a faith
- 16:50formation thing on they had an expert in about what you can do
- 16:55to impede ICE legally and what you can't do, you know, just to
- 17:00educate people. So because I'm willing to go to
- 17:03jail to impede ICE, I don't want to go to prison.
- 17:07Well, don't drive your ball. At him.
- 17:09OK, let's not get shot. Yeah, and I.
- 17:13You know, that situation, it's like I, you know, I don't know.
- 17:20Again, I'm not taking a stand of who did right, wrong or what.
- 17:26I don't, I don't it seems bad in any way you look at it.
- 17:31I guess I'm just thinking to myself, and I would, I'd tell my
- 17:34kids like protest, but like I start screwing with a policeman
- 17:41and I drive a car toward him. I'm expected.
- 17:44I'm expecting a negative outcome.
- 17:46I mean, you still got to be careful with somebody with a
- 17:48load of weapon. Whether?
- 17:50You think they're authorized to do something or not?
- 17:53There's a a measure of like be smart, protest all you want,
- 18:01can't, but I don't want you to get shot.
- 18:04Well, there's a kernel of truth to what you say and look, I I
- 18:07freely admit that, but like, I don't even know why the hell are
- 18:12there in the 1st place. I think this makes no sense and.
- 18:17Well, I guess I am interested in, you know, the again back I
- 18:25go back to Obama deported a lot more people than Trump.
- 18:28It was ICE doing the deportations.
- 18:31ICE wasn't demonized under, under, you know, under Obama.
- 18:36But they utilize the same tactics.
- 18:38It's the same organization. It's the same structure.
- 18:43But Trump's involved. So everybody's like, oh, these
- 18:45sons of bitches are out. They're terrorists and they're
- 18:47Nazis. Like Kyle, you don't think that
- 18:50that like this goes back to my original point.
- 18:53If the problem is the border and the deportations, then do that.
- 18:58But we get they're eating the dogs.
- 19:00We get the rapists and murderers, We get people that
- 19:03don't look like us are evil inherently.
- 19:06We get ICE now checking people. I don't know if this was the way
- 19:10they did it before, but now The thing is that ICE thinks you
- 19:14look like you might be Mexican, so we're going to stop you.
- 19:18Like like that's seems like a problem to me.
- 19:21That seems like not the country that I want to live in.
- 19:25I'm fine with deporting people. This is the thing they chose,
- 19:29Kyle. This is an exact case of what
- 19:31we've talked about before. Trump chose an adversarial
- 19:37approach to this. He chose an in your face, knock
- 19:42down the doors, separate the mothers from the children.
- 19:46He's deliberately chosen that because there's a certain part
- 19:51of his population that eats it up like like cat food.
- 19:55I mean, well, the separate again, it's the separating from
- 20:00the mothers and children's children in cages again,
- 20:02happened during the Obama administration.
- 20:04The picture for the media was from the Obama administration.
- 20:07Yes, he has made illegal immigration a key tenant of his
- 20:13presidency, But I feel like there's just a whole lot of
- 20:18things that get cobbled together by the left to fight this thing
- 20:22like. You know, they're out to get
- 20:25everybody. They're racist and blah, blah,
- 20:26blah, blah, blah. He's trying to make the place
- 20:30safer by getting, you know, closing the border and getting
- 20:35the criminals out, getting people that are crossing the
- 20:37border illegally out. And again, it's like even the
- 20:41language he's used isn't any different than has been used by
- 20:44Obama. It's been used by Clinton.
- 20:46But now this is not the this is not the case du jour of the
- 20:53Democrat Party. Now it's like, no, we're for the
- 20:55illegal crossings, we're for open borders.
- 20:59And so he's fighting that. And so now he's.
- 21:04I just think that's not true. I'm not, and I don't speak for
- 21:08all Democrats. I'm not for open borders and I'm
- 21:10not for not deporting people that shouldn't be here, but I
- 21:13don't think. You're the part and parcel of
- 21:15the Democrat Party. The people that under, I mean,
- 21:18Biden isn't wasn't a radical leftist.
- 21:21Brett Biden was a centrist Democrat and they were for
- 21:26keeping borders open and people crossing.
- 21:28And now the music is stopped and people are deporting people and
- 21:31all of a sudden it's the Gestapo and the Nazis that are deporting
- 21:36everybody. And I'm not like, you know, I, I
- 21:40would not sit here and defend every law enforcement action
- 21:43like they're, you know, they're, they're perfect.
- 21:49I'm sure there's, I'm sure there's bullshit that occurs.
- 21:52And I don't necessarily deny that.
- 21:54I'm just saying, I think the overall push to lock down the
- 21:59border and deport people was politically popular at one time
- 22:03on the left. It's not anymore.
- 22:05And so now you're going to get hyperbole, you're going to get
- 22:09there to Gestapo. They're the Nazis.
- 22:11They're, you know, and all the stuff these people are saying
- 22:14and trying to turn it into a, a riot.
- 22:18Well, I'm just saying if the if the if it was worth doing
- 22:23because it was worth doing. You don't need the veneer of
- 22:28racism and hatred on top of it. And if that's just a character
- 22:33flaw of Trump and it's just an accident or just so happens that
- 22:37it falls along the lines of that and really in his good, clean
- 22:43Christian heart that they pray over him.
- 22:45He characterized it as a security issue of having people
- 22:48come into this country illegally without any vetting and without
- 22:52any checks, as a criminal issue. That's not a Trump off the cuff
- 22:57thing that is that's people's concern about illegal
- 23:02immigration is that people are coming into this border across
- 23:04the border to in our committing crimes.
- 23:08That is the whole like crux of anybody that is pushing for
- 23:13that. So I'm not going to convince you
- 23:17and it's fine you're. Not, and I don't think that's
- 23:19the real reason. I don't think that's why people
- 23:21are opposed to it. I think that's a convenient
- 23:23reason that maybe makes people feel good.
- 23:26I think that most of Trump's voters, the real reason is that
- 23:30they they realize they feel it as a job threat.
- 23:34They're they're uneducated people without a lot of
- 23:38opportunity. And they don't feel it as a job
- 23:40threat. I'm not worried about somebody
- 23:41coming across the border taking my job, but I am worried about
- 23:45being in a place that sky rockets and crime.
- 23:48And I think I I'm less worried about petty crime.
- 23:51I'm more worried about. I'm not worried about, quite
- 23:55frankly, I'm not worried about somebody coming from Mexico.
- 23:57I'm worried about somebody from Syria coming through the Mexican
- 24:01border, which is well documented that you got people coming from
- 24:05a lot of places or from China or from some of these places that
- 24:07want to do us harm. So and I, you know, we're not
- 24:11disagreeing about. No, but but like, why do you?
- 24:16Why is it so hard for you to say that that the vilification of
- 24:24immigrants generally is not a good thing?
- 24:28Like. But I.
- 24:29Like I think your explanation makes total sense to me.
- 24:33Like I, I, I'm not, I don't even disagree with you on that, but
- 24:37like, why do you go to such lengths to exclude or to excuse
- 24:44when he's like, they're rapists and they're murderers, They're
- 24:46killing the dog. Like that shit.
- 24:48Why? Why can't you disavow that shit?
- 24:50That's what I don't understand. There are rapists and murders
- 24:52that have come across the border.
- 24:53And if you're talking about a security issue and there's
- 24:58rapists and murders coming across the border without any
- 25:00controls, that's the whole crux of the security issue to begin
- 25:04with. Of course they're not all racist
- 25:05rapists and murders. There's, but there were 17,017
- 25:09thousand convicted murderers among illegal aliens coming
- 25:13across the border. So yeah, there's millions, but.
- 25:16If I use your stats, that's a really low percentage.
- 25:20Sure. But no, Grant, I just do.
- 25:24Do you really think that he? You really think that he's?
- 25:29I again. Does the President of the United
- 25:31States not have any responsibility?
- 25:33Negatively. I've heard him on podcast talk
- 25:35about most of the people coming across the border just want a
- 25:37job. They're here peacefully.
- 25:39We get that. He's acknowledged that, you
- 25:43know, again, I'm not. So why do we target?
- 25:45Why don't we target the? Why don't we target the
- 25:47criminals? We have we they've deported a
- 25:50ton of. Criminals.
- 25:52Well, it's frustrating we're we're never going to agree on
- 25:56this. There is no agreement on this
- 25:58and it's not because I want the border open and it's not because
- 26:01I don't want anybody deported that shouldn't be here.
- 26:04It's. Because of him.
- 26:05If, if Biden was doing the same thing, the exact same actions,
- 26:09the exact same Trump activity, you'd be fine with it.
- 26:13It's the words. That's what pisses you off.
- 26:16It's the words and it's the guy. So it's two things.
- 26:19It's the words and the yeah, it's him because I can't stand
- 26:23him. But but if Barack Obama
- 26:27characterized immigrants as rapists and murderers, I'd be
- 26:31opposed, they have said. The same thing that there are
- 26:34bad people coming across the border.
- 26:36They haven't said all the people coming across the border.
- 26:38But you know, you go back to the 90s Hillary Clinton's talking
- 26:42about criminals coming across the border.
- 26:45It's not something new. I think the issue is that who
- 26:50your vision of who Trump is is a racist bastard.
- 26:54And he's trying to, you know, he's doing all this, you know,
- 27:00for whatever aims you. See, Full disclosure, I don't
- 27:04think Trump's a racist. I don't think he cares enough
- 27:06about any human being to like there's no hierarchy.
- 27:11It's like he doesn't care about people, period.
- 27:14But he is completely comfortable with making racists comfortable
- 27:21with his language, and he doesn't do anything to distance
- 27:26himself from that. He I, I just think it's really
- 27:32interesting that you, like, you want to parse his words and
- 27:35like, no, he never said that they were all that.
- 27:38You cannot in good conscience tell me that he's not perfectly
- 27:44happy to be perceived as talking about like.
- 27:48Like, why did he? He didn't say, oh, let me
- 27:51correct the record. I didn't mean that all of them
- 27:54are bad. He's.
- 27:54Trying he's trying to demonstrate the severity of the
- 27:58problem. So I don't see the guys a racist
- 28:03based on his friends, based on the people he's close to, I I
- 28:07don't think. I just said I don't think that
- 28:09he's a racist. I think that he's totally
- 28:12comfortable. He's he, I think he's
- 28:14babysitting racist in his butt, in his base and I think he's I
- 28:18think he throws that out there to keep those people on to on in
- 28:22support of him. Again, I don't think, I don't
- 28:26think immigration's a race issue because again, the people I'm
- 28:29worried about aren't Hispanic. I'm not worried about Hispanics.
- 28:34I'm worried about other folks coming from other parts of the
- 28:36country. And it has nothing to do with
- 28:38their race. It has to do with keeping us
- 28:40safe. I, I, I wish that I wish that
- 28:47you were in charge then and I wish that the actions of our
- 28:52government was aligned with, even if it's a position I don't
- 28:57agree with, it's a defensible position and it's not a hate
- 29:03inspired position, but that's your position.
- 29:07That's when you talk about it. That's not what I hear and
- 29:10that's not what I see and that's not how I see ICE organized.
- 29:13That's not what I see them pursuing.
- 29:16That's just not what they're doing.
- 29:18Again, you know, for the record, I totally disagree with you, but
- 29:21I wish you were in charge, Kent. And again, I think you should
- 29:25run for office. I will vote.
- 29:28For you I will campaign. You are the worst piece of shit
- 29:33in the world but I think you ought to run for office.
- 29:38Like you're whole support of my candidacy is like a false flag
- 29:42thing. You're.
- 29:43No, no, can't. If you run for office, I will.
- 29:49I will convert 100%. I mean, whatever the hell you
- 29:52say. What what office would come
- 29:55would if if I go for like dog catcher of can I can I count on
- 29:59your vote in the 2028 presidential election I'm.
- 30:03Serious, you ought to run. Oh man, no, this is a.
- 30:08Great time for you. You're about ready to retire.
- 30:11I mean, honestly, The thing is, like, as much as I like to spar
- 30:17with you, like everything you're saying is logical, Like I, you
- 30:22know, I want to argue with you, but you're, you're you don't
- 30:26present. I'm not just trying to blow
- 30:28smoke up your ass and kiss kiss up to you.
- 30:30Let's keep this rolling. I just, you know, like I believe
- 30:35what I'm telling you, but at the same time, I don't think you're
- 30:38wrong either. I don't know, like I disagree
- 30:42with you, but I don't think you're wrong.
- 30:43And I that sounds like a strange maybe way to put it, but like
- 30:48you're, you've got valid points. I I'm not arguing, and I hope I
- 30:55don't characterize myself as being like the Donald Trump
- 30:59apologist, like, no. I don't.
- 31:02I don't have any love for the guy other than, you know, more
- 31:05of a, a pragmatic desire that he does things well.
- 31:11But I just don't see racism here.
- 31:14But I can see where you see it. Yeah, well, first of all, thank
- 31:19you for the the nice thoughts. And, and I'll say the exact same
- 31:22to you, Kyle. You know, I don't agree with you
- 31:25on some of these points, but when I hear and, and part of why
- 31:30I like doing this is 'cause I like hearing the perspective of
- 31:35the other side of a guy that is not a raging asshole.
- 31:40That's what you that's what you bring to the No, I, no, I'm
- 31:46serious. Like right, like it is
- 31:51unassailable that it is a good thing to have solid border
- 31:56control of our country. It is now I'm, I'm not super
- 32:02sanguine about the deportations because again, most of these
- 32:08people aren't here for, you know, free coupons from the food
- 32:13bank. They're here for jobs, which
- 32:15means that they're an important part of our economy.
- 32:17And if indeed we're talking about 20 million people, that's
- 32:24well in a sizeable fraction of our workforce that we can't
- 32:28afford to deport so. Well, like we've put wish, I
- 32:31wish we'd go. I wish they'd go to the Mall of
- 32:33America's and set up a border shop and be like, come in here
- 32:38for two hours and fill all this crap out and you didn't kill
- 32:41anybody. We'll get you exactly, Yeah.
- 32:43We'll come up with some kind of a game plan.
- 32:45I love that, yeah. No, and and we're agreed on
- 32:47that. And, and again, I'm not, I'm not
- 32:50like, oh, we shouldn't. I don't think this will, I don't
- 32:55think this will land with you. But I feel like the reason that
- 32:59Biden didn't take action on immigration honestly is because
- 33:04it had become so personalized and so charged under the first
- 33:10Trump administration that and, and this happens all the time.
- 33:15This goes to your point where Trump makes everything about
- 33:17him. And you're, you're right, I hate
- 33:19to admit it, but 100% right on that.
- 33:22Which means that he can say that if if he thinks that dog shit is
- 33:30bad, well, you're going to have people that are going to be
- 33:35like, you can't. You can't demean dog excrement.
- 33:41It has inherent value. Well, and I think I think that's
- 33:47the, you know, like this old border thing I keep, you know,
- 33:50one of my counter arguments Obama, this Obama.
- 33:52And truth be told, it's probably not a very good argument because
- 33:57again, that was pre Trump. This is the landscape was
- 34:01different. It used to be the right was pro
- 34:05illegal immigration because they wanted more people and, you
- 34:08know, cheap labor and it and it was Trump and Clinton, Obama
- 34:12were, you know, ringing the bell for, you know, cracking down on
- 34:17illegal immigration and then Trump gets a hold of it.
- 34:20Oh no, now it's like it's all switched around.
- 34:25Yeah, well, so anyway, I do. And I guess the other thing I'd
- 34:29give to you as well is, yes, here's I guess my perspective on
- 34:39when you hear Trump and what he talks about from a the language.
- 34:44You see, it is a appealing to the racist base.
- 34:47And I don't put words in your mouth, but more of a
- 34:50conspiratorial approach and you see my defenses being I'm
- 34:55parsing words. I've.
- 34:57Said before, I'll say it again, Trump's not a great
- 35:00communicator. I don't like how he communicates
- 35:03because he says something he there's no nuance with the guy.
- 35:08You know, the guy is not going to be able.
- 35:10Let me have a discussion about this, that and the other thing.
- 35:13And so he's trying to get a point across about security, but
- 35:19it comes off as a racial angle. And I guess I didn't take it
- 35:25that way because that's not how I view the guy.
- 35:28But at the same time, he didn't do a good job of saying, which
- 35:33I've heard him say, but he didn't.
- 35:34To your point, it was not like, well spoken, like, yeah, there's
- 35:40murders coming. Now most of the people just want
- 35:42a job and they're nice folks, and we need to figure out
- 35:45something with them. And if he just said that, and he
- 35:47said it in a halfway decent, coherent way, a lot of this
- 35:52bullshit wouldn't be taking place, in my opinion.
- 35:56A lot of this he brings on himself through his inability to
- 36:00make the point. Now that's me talking.
- 36:03I think your angle is it's all purposeful and he's doing it to
- 36:06piss everybody off. Well, yeah, that's kind of what
- 36:09I was going to say. And I just, I do think it's
- 36:11interesting. I I hope you're right.
- 36:15That gives me a lot of hope. Like he is what he is like he's
- 36:19not going to change himself And and to your point, right.
- 36:22So like, and if the media is like pouncing on every dumb
- 36:28thing that he says, like like I can like I can follow that.
- 36:34But it you understand why, first of all, like a lot of the stuff
- 36:40that comes right out of his mouth is not things that you
- 36:44would say that you, you know what I mean?
- 36:46And like, but why? And maybe I am just looking for
- 36:52monsters here. But like, then then why isn't
- 36:56that the defense? Like, like when this comes back,
- 37:01you're fanning the flames of you're, you're creating these ad
- 37:05hominem races. Like, like, why not?
- 37:08Why not come out and say that? And like, 'cause I'm not going
- 37:12to listen to a three hour interview with him, with Joe
- 37:14Rogan. Why doesn't what's her, what's
- 37:18her check the communications lady instead of just saying
- 37:24President Trump is the greatest man ever in the history of the
- 37:27why doesn't she say, look, you're taking one aspect of this
- 37:32and you're missing the bigger point.
- 37:34And like, like he doesn't distance himself from that.
- 37:39Is that just because he's who he is or my fear, My worry, my
- 37:47paranoia, if you want to call it that.
- 37:50Yeah. This whole thing's a big
- 37:52freaking dog whistle to people that hate others.
- 37:54And he, he's just waving the flag saying you are comfortable
- 37:59in my party. If you don't like people because
- 38:02of the way that they look, we're going to run with that.
- 38:06So. It goes back to the the age-old
- 38:09question. Is he stupid or is he a is it a
- 38:13conspiracy? I mean, if I had to bet, I'd say
- 38:16stupid. Well then you got no issues with
- 38:20him, Ken. Well, is he not surrounded by
- 38:24anybody smart enough to see that?
- 38:26We need to, we need to separate that.
- 38:28Like that's the part. Come on.
- 38:31I, I I can almost get with you that this is a matter of being
- 38:36inarticulate or being taken out of context.
- 38:40Inarticulate. It's just his communication
- 38:44approach. I've seen interviews with him
- 38:47when he was 30 years old. It's the same thing.
- 38:51He gets an idea and he keeps repeating the same message and
- 38:56he'll say it six different ways from Sunday.
- 39:00That's his angle. That's his approach.
- 39:02And I mean, part of the reason why he got the, I mean,
- 39:10honestly, and we talk about like the dynamics of the parties have
- 39:15changed. Part of why, you know, he
- 39:18probably got a lot of Democrats to vote for him is because a lot
- 39:22of those Democrats were the same Democrats were voting for
- 39:25Clinton and and Obama that wanted to do something about
- 39:29illegal immigration. And he's talking the talk about,
- 39:33hey, there's criminals coming across.
- 39:35And you know, all he's going to say is there's criminals coming
- 39:38across. He's not going to say some, you
- 39:42know, well metered out statement that, you know, well, there's,
- 39:46there's bad people coming across, there's good people
- 39:48coming across. He's just going to keep
- 39:49repeating the same damn thing. And I mean, I can't listen to
- 39:53the guy. I mean, honestly, I mean, I, I
- 39:55support a lot what he does. But because of that, because a
- 39:58lot of it is just he'll say the same thing over and over and
- 40:01over again. And that's like, you know, it's
- 40:05like a, it's a strategy now, I think.
- 40:09Your point this, your point is the strategy is he's coddling
- 40:13racist. I see it more as he's like, I
- 40:16got one point I can get across. What's the one thing I'm going
- 40:18to leave the crowd with? And then I'm going to say it 6
- 40:21times so everybody gets it, you know?
- 40:26Lately I've been listening to from podcasts The Mooch our our
- 40:32mutual friend Anthony Scaramucci.
- 40:35Who, I might add, can't. When I took my latest job 4 1/2
- 40:40years ago, my my, my nice brother got a cameo from the
- 40:46Mooch and I still have that. It's a very, very encouraging
- 40:51words, he said. I think his his advice was get
- 40:55up early and get it done early or something like that.
- 40:57That was. I actually really like him and
- 41:02he's got an interesting read on what's going on.
- 41:06I'll send you the link. There was a he had Mark Halperin
- 41:11on and he can have Mark Halperin on because the left.
- 41:14You can't have Mark Halperin on anymore because he got cancelled
- 41:17because of his he was doing some sexual abuse thing.
- 41:23And so he's like 86th out. But really interesting read on
- 41:29kind of the ice stuff and the the Trump plan.
- 41:32So I'll send you the link to it. I don't know if it's really
- 41:34Jermaine for this, but I guess what it brings me back to is the
- 41:42E word that we haven't said this entire podcast.
- 41:46It's coming. And do you?
- 41:48I mean, again, call me a conspiratorialist, but I 100%
- 41:56think that he's real happy that we've got protests in Minnesota
- 42:00right now 'cause people aren't talking about Epstein.
- 42:04Well. And I wouldn't rule it out and
- 42:07I'm not as still not pleased with the Epstein resolution, but
- 42:13you're going to say every news article that comes up is a
- 42:17diversion? Well, some of that's just the
- 42:19news cycle in America today, I mean.
- 42:23Fairly true. People get sick talking about
- 42:25something anyways. I mean, it's going to be
- 42:28Greenland. It's going to be that.
- 42:29It's going to be what was the other big one over the holidays?
- 42:32There was another big. Venezuela.
- 42:36Oh, Venezuela. Yes, yes, that, yes.
- 42:41Which, which sovereign nation are we?
- 42:44You know, I don't know. We, I think we've done this
- 42:46enough. I don't want to just go in
- 42:47circles like, yeah, Maduro's a bad guy.
- 42:51The world's probably better off with him not leading Venezuela.
- 42:56The timing had nothing to do with the Epstein.
- 43:00Nothing whatsoever. No, but again, like
- 43:03consideration. Now you're going to like
- 43:05everything that happens. Well, I mean, you know, timing.
- 43:09It's about the Epstein. I mean it it becomes a bit of a
- 43:13self defining prophecy, but. Don't you think he thinks that
- 43:17way? I mean, am I?
- 43:18Am I really that crazy? I.
- 43:21Think he's got a lot of plans and he's doing a lot of things I
- 43:26maybe. I I just it?
- 43:29Well, I mean, was he not going to do anything?
- 43:31I mean, there's not going to be any Trump news in the news for a
- 43:35month because of, you know. No, I'm not saying that, but I
- 43:41it's, it's just interesting to me because.
- 43:45We're not, and I don't like the fact that it's dying off.
- 43:49I mean. So what about that dude at the
- 43:52Ford plant? Wasn't it Ford the dude that
- 43:56called him a pedophile protector?
- 43:58Which is like, hard to see that that's not what's going on and
- 44:05that dude got fired. Interesting.
- 44:10Which I don't know, you know, I guess you know, we've talked
- 44:14before free speech. It means he he didn't go to
- 44:16prison, but he didn't get fired. But people like me given to
- 44:21event mode. Or is it with Chris Farley's?
- 44:26Is it his cousin or brother runs sport now?
- 44:30Is it was it his brother or no? I think it was.
- 44:32His cousin, I think, Yeah. The guy looks a lot like him.
- 44:38Mr. Farley's been in the basement drinking coffee for
- 44:42three hours. Hey, thanks for joining us on
