- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Hey everybody, Brian Smith here with the I'm team series and your daily influence.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: And today I'd like to welcome you and going to ask you to look in the mirror.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: I've done this in the past, but I'm going to ask you to ask yourselves kind of a tough question in that is, am I.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: The problem are you the common denominator of issues that happen over and over within your area of influence, so it always have to be at work, it could be in your personal life, it can be anywhere, but asking that question.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: is really important because it might help you get to self-improvement or improvement of the issues you're facing much, much, faster.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, on the I&T series, we teach that all influence begins with the individual self.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: And that means before we point outward, we must first turn inward and recognize our own negative influence.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's not about blame.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's about the responsibility we have to have.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: the most positive influence we can at all times.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, that's not possible at all times.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: But it is possible to recognize those moments when we do miss the mark to help us improve in those areas of influence that those things happen.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, it's understanding your presence, your behaviors, and your patterns, because we have patterns.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: And our patterns can help shape the influence of other people and it can shape other people's experience.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it can shape the
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: Let's break it down and identify when you might be contributing to the problems you face and how to shift your mindset and your influence towards something more intentional and more positive.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, as I said here, the first thing is really self awareness, you know, what energy am I bringing?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: to a situation.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: Influence is constant.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: So even when you walk through the door, whatever you're carrying with you through that door has influence, how that leans into the tone of voice, your body language, the eye contact you give.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: how you leave or start a conversation, what topic you choose, the emotion that you have, it all sets the tone for what's about to happen.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: In patterns have a lot more influence over moments.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: Look, everybody has and can give grace to situational issues where it starts to break down as when
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: those patterns are repeated over and over and over again.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: And you bring recurring behaviors, defensiveness with draw over reacting unclear communication.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: When you bring that repeatedly, you begin to build a pattern of structured
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: And potentially negative influence that contributes to the environment where you find yourself with a lot of challenges.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: So understanding your patterns determining what's within your control can help you understand what might need to be improved and you might also be able to ask people around you.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: to help you with that improvement.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: You might need help understanding the patterns.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: You might have to get some validation to what you fear you might be doing to your area of influence.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: That first step can help you really lean into course correction, can help you lean into improvement.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: Whatever that might mean in your area of influence and you can allow the people around you to help define what that means.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: You can ask questions about
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: how you're bringing that into situations.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: And what would it look like if I made that better?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Moving from being reactive to intentional can be really difficult.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: It means we have to slow down, you know, I talk so much about slowing down, about being intentional, being mindful.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: But when we move from reactive to intentional behavior, we can become more calm.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: We can have more clarity, and we can communicate better across all aspects of our influence, not just from our words, but also from our actions, from our body language, from how we start to
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: Every interaction that we have can look small resets can lead to big shifts.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's important to realize that, you know, if I want to hit a target that far down range oftentimes, my correction can be a fraction of the distance that's needed and I might need to
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: use multiple tactics to help me to reach my objective, reach my goals of being a more positive and responsible influencer through those course corrections, through that better communication, through that mindset that has me being intentional about who am I and how am I arriving in this issue or in this time.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: So recognizing your own negative influence is one of the most powerful steps you can take towards responsible leadership and a healthier relationship not just with yourself but with everybody around you and when we take ownership of our patterns and choose intentional influence.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: We not only improve our own experience, we elevate everyone around us.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: Are you guiding it?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: Or are you letting it guide you?
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for joining me today on the daily influence and until tomorrow, stay aware, stay intentional, and keep building your influence.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_00]: Have a great day.
