- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the almost famous podcast with iHeartRadio. Hi Jake,
- 0:05Speaker 1: Hi Bob.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It's Turtha and Bob from the almost Famous OG podcast,
- 0:10Speaker 2: and we decided to extend our episode with Jake. We
- 0:16Speaker 2: kept him around for a little longer after our Dancing
- 0:18Speaker 2: with the Stars chat, and now we're going to get
- 0:20Speaker 2: into what Jake is doing these days and a little
- 0:24Speaker 2: more about about him and not really Dancing with the
- 0:26Speaker 2: Stars focus.
- 0:27Speaker 1: So thanks for sticking around.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Yeah, thanks Jake, Thank you for having me.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Of course, Now, last time America was checking in with you, right,
- 0:35Speaker 4: this is right after your Bachelor season of course, and
- 0:38Speaker 4: then of course the Dancing of the Stars time frame.
- 0:40Speaker 4: You were a pilot, right and you were flying it
- 0:44Speaker 4: was south last Southwest?
- 0:45Speaker 5: Why do I think? But I thought it was Delta
- 0:47Speaker 5: who were No?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Actually so so I was flying at the time with
- 0:52Speaker 3: a with a regional airline that was wholly owned by Delta,
- 0:57Speaker 3: so we kind of inclue Delta Colors, but it was
- 1:01Speaker 3: a subsidiary of Delta.
- 1:02Speaker 5: That's what I thought. Okay, So, yeah, you were flying
- 1:05Speaker 5: for Delta.
- 1:05Speaker 4: I mean that was your career, right, you were in
- 1:08Speaker 4: your career path already as actually yeah, and then you
- 1:12Speaker 4: just shifted gears. Tell us about it.
- 1:15Speaker 3: You know, Bob, honestly, I have not talked about this
- 1:21Speaker 3: with anybody. Uh, you know what I what I've been doing,
- 1:24Speaker 3: and so you know, as a as a kid, I've
- 1:27Speaker 3: always been I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit, love love business.
- 1:33Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:33Speaker 3: It's so I was flying, flying with the airline, and
- 1:39Speaker 3: you know, one day, I just I was thinking about
- 1:42Speaker 3: what Sully Sullenberger, you know, did you know miracle on
- 1:46Speaker 3: the Hudson when he landed that airbus in the water,
- 1:50Speaker 3: and the scrutiny that he was under. You know, I
- 1:53Speaker 3: was just thinking about that going you know what, this
- 1:56Speaker 3: this doesn't pay enough money, you know, for the amount
- 1:58Speaker 3: of risk, because he could have very easily gone to
- 2:01Speaker 3: jail for what he did answer to Congress. That's scary. Yeah,
- 2:05Speaker 3: And I'm just you know, hey, look, I don't think
- 2:08Speaker 3: what you're paying me is worth the amount of risk
- 2:10Speaker 3: that I'm taking moving people around the country at five
- 2:13Speaker 3: hundred miles an hour, you know, at thirty five thousand feet.
- 2:16Speaker 3: So see, yeah, I was out, wow, And so you know,
- 2:22Speaker 3: I was looking for something to do, and I always
- 2:26Speaker 3: you know, I bought, ran, sold, bankrupt you name it
- 2:32Speaker 3: a bunch of small little businesses, you know. But I
- 2:34Speaker 3: was looking for something that the average person didn't want
- 2:37Speaker 3: to do. And there are a couple of industries. Like
- 2:42Speaker 3: most people don't want to work on toilets and be
- 2:44Speaker 3: a plumber industry. I can tell you most people don't
- 2:50Speaker 3: want to want to climb on a roof in the
- 2:52Speaker 3: summertime and work on HVAC systems. They just don't want
- 2:55Speaker 3: to do it. They would rather work on creating games
- 2:58Speaker 3: or building soft for something like that. That sounds sexy. Well,
- 3:01Speaker 3: I to tell you this stuff from a millionaire is
- 3:04Speaker 3: to go open up an HVAC company. If you want
- 3:05Speaker 3: to be a millionaire, quickly, go open up an HVAC company.
- 3:08Speaker 5: I just read an article about that the other day.
- 3:11Speaker 4: They said that new that's the new thing that people
- 3:14Speaker 4: are going into and they're able to scale it really quickly.
- 3:17Speaker 3: They are. I don't know anything about HVAC systems. You
- 3:20Speaker 3: have to be licensed. So what I did here in
- 3:22Speaker 3: Dallas is I started looking at the waist tauling industry
- 3:26Speaker 3: and it is nothing. It is what it sounds like.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I bought a truck in twenty seventeen. I crewed it
- 3:35Speaker 3: and I started started selling waste contracts in what they
- 3:39Speaker 3: call open market areas. So if you're just outside of
- 3:42Speaker 3: the city, you know, like your cable, your phone and everything,
- 3:46Speaker 3: you have to contract with the third party because the
- 3:48Speaker 3: city's not providing it. And so I started selling subscription
- 3:52Speaker 3: trash contracts and it started working. I quickly realized that
- 3:57Speaker 3: the solid waste industry, is the garbage industry, was fifteen
- 4:02Speaker 3: twenty years behind on technology. So I started looking for
- 4:04Speaker 3: technologies that I could inject and bolt onto my business
- 4:08Speaker 3: to make it more efficient. And so I raised a
- 4:14Speaker 3: bunch of private equity money, uh several several million dollars,
- 4:18Speaker 3: and we launched here in Dallas and twenty seventeen. And
- 4:23Speaker 3: we scaled that company for six years, and in January
- 4:27Speaker 3: of this year, a publicly traded company came in and
- 4:30Speaker 3: bought us. It was just an incredible journey.
- 4:33Speaker 5: That's awesome.
- 4:34Speaker 3: So I've been a garbage man for six years.
- 4:39Speaker 5: That's amazing.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Man.
- 4:40Speaker 4: You know, it's so funny whenever I think of like
- 4:43Speaker 4: waste management and this is such a disservice I'm sure
- 4:46Speaker 4: to that entire industry, but I think of the sopranos, right,
- 4:48Speaker 4: like I'm always like, oh, yeah, yeah, you know that's.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I've been on your door.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Yeah exactly.
- 4:55Speaker 4: But you know, good for you, man, Good for you
- 4:57Speaker 4: to like like just sort of completely reboot and start
- 5:01Speaker 4: your whole life over after I mean an incredible first chapter, right.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I mean a lot of people grow up wanting to
- 5:07Speaker 4: be a pilot and that would be and you did
- 5:09Speaker 4: that and then you know, television success and all that
- 5:12Speaker 4: other good stuff, and then you just were like, you
- 5:14Speaker 4: know what, I'm gonna scrap this and start fresh. I
- 5:17Speaker 4: think that's pretty remarkable.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I need to walk the garbage truck and throw trash.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yeah, amazing. So are you still involved since you sold
- 5:26Speaker 1: the company?
- 5:27Speaker 3: I helped out for about the first six months, but
- 5:30Speaker 3: you know, we set up a really good company where
- 5:34Speaker 3: you know, it transitioned into a much larger companies platform.
- 5:39Speaker 3: So organically, my deal was, I would, you know, I'd
- 5:42Speaker 3: remain available for a year whatever they needed, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 3: solidifying contracts, going out and selling for them. And they
- 5:47Speaker 3: just said, you know, you've you're you're leaving your company
- 5:51Speaker 3: in great hands, all of your you know, we had
- 5:53Speaker 3: about one hundred employees. They all got jobs. Let me
- 5:57Speaker 3: tell you one of the coolest things that I've ever
- 5:58Speaker 3: gotten to do in my entire life. When we sold
- 6:02Speaker 3: the company, probably tear up talking about this because it
- 6:06Speaker 3: was so meaningful to me. We sold the company. The
- 6:11Speaker 3: buyer came in very rapidly, uh, you know, wanting to
- 6:14Speaker 3: make a deal. When they made the offer, I didn't
- 6:19Speaker 3: think they were going to close, you know, I thought,
- 6:22Speaker 3: this is more zero than I've ever seen in my life.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And we had about one hundred employees and we were
- 6:29Speaker 3: able to share that profit with everybody from the top,
- 6:35Speaker 3: very meaningful thank you bonuses on the very last day
- 6:40Speaker 3: and getting to hand people those checks and everything was
- 6:42Speaker 3: that was the coolest thing. The people that helped me,
- 6:46Speaker 3: they're they're smarter, Yeah, you know, I mean, it was
- 6:49Speaker 3: just such an incredible way to say I can't tell
- 6:51Speaker 3: you how much I appreciate. Let me show you I
- 6:56Speaker 3: loved that you.
- 6:57Speaker 5: Paid it forward, buddy, That's the dream.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Right calls. You know they've they've they're they're still working
- 7:02Speaker 3: for the buyer, or you know, they've they've moved on
- 7:05Speaker 3: to other companies around the United States that are doing
- 7:08Speaker 3: the same thing. And I get text messages all the time, Hey,
- 7:10Speaker 3: when are we starting up again?
- 7:14Speaker 1: That's so cool.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I feel like that would be I've always thought about,
- 7:18Speaker 2: you know, you play that game. If I win the lottery,
- 7:21Speaker 2: what would I do with the money? And gosh, I
- 7:23Speaker 2: would love to do that. That was actually a really
- 7:28Speaker 2: cool part of Bachelorette for me and the wedding is
- 7:32Speaker 2: being able. I know they made it like dramatic on
- 7:35Speaker 2: the show, but being able to just kind of give
- 7:37Speaker 2: that to like fly all my friends and family over
- 7:42Speaker 2: to this island for the Bachelor Bachelorette party and then
- 7:45Speaker 2: over to Palm Springs and like take over an entire resort.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Like it's just so much fun to share that with
- 7:52Speaker 2: the people that you know, you've worked hard with and
- 7:55Speaker 2: that you love.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So good for.
- 7:57Speaker 4: You, true, thank you, That is true, trist I mean,
- 8:00Speaker 4: I think that's that's one of the nicest things that
- 8:03Speaker 4: I mean, Jake, I love that you said that because
- 8:04Speaker 4: I think about my experience. Obviously it wasn't you know,
- 8:07Speaker 4: I didn't have the wedding and all that like you did, Trista.
- 8:09Speaker 4: But I think about all my friends that I brought
- 8:11Speaker 4: along for the ride with me, and how much fun
- 8:14Speaker 4: that was for all of us to share in those
- 8:15Speaker 4: moments and to be able to look back on well
- 8:17Speaker 4: and the friendships. You know, that's one thing that I
- 8:20Speaker 4: think people don't realize.
- 8:21Speaker 5: They hear about, you.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Know, everyone going on the show the Bachelor and the
- 8:24Speaker 4: Bachelrett and all that, and they think, oh, these people,
- 8:26Speaker 4: you know, it becomes this incestuous community or whatever it
- 8:28Speaker 4: actually becomes. You really do make some genuine friendships out
- 8:31Speaker 4: of it. I mean, Tristan and I've been friends for
- 8:33Speaker 4: over twenty years. It's crazy, yeah, you know.
- 8:35Speaker 5: And and Jake, I mean, man, you and.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I've been buddies for a very long time too, you know,
- 8:39Speaker 4: since since your season of the Bachelor. So you know,
- 8:42Speaker 4: a lot of those friendships you would never have had
- 8:44Speaker 4: without having gone through this experience, and to pay it
- 8:47Speaker 4: forward to others like you did with your business is
- 8:49Speaker 4: pretty amazing too.
- 8:49Speaker 5: I mean, that's just one of those things.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Where it's it's always about the people you come in
- 8:53Speaker 4: contact with, right, and how you can spread that love.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I couldn't have said that better myself. I'll tell
- 8:58Speaker 3: you what I appreciate about both of you is, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 3: it's it's probably been three years since I've talked to you,
- 9:04Speaker 3: Trus It's been longer than that with you, Bob, and
- 9:07Speaker 3: every time I talk to you, it's just like there's
- 9:10Speaker 3: no times past. You know. I really appreciate uh timeless relationships.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah, same me too.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Yeah, you don't need to have a bunch of explanations.
- 9:21Speaker 4: It's just let's hog it. Let's get back at it.
- 9:23Speaker 4: You know what are we doing this time?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Right? Okay, now we're going to get to the good stuff.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Are you dating?
- 9:35Speaker 3: No, I am not dating. I'm not dating. There's a
- 9:40Speaker 3: good reason.
- 9:41Speaker 2: For it, because you're married, not married, engaged, not yet.
- 9:51Speaker 5: What are you doing?
- 9:52Speaker 3: Her name is? Her name is Amy?
- 9:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:56Speaker 3: We met on bumble Oh my god in January and
- 10:02Speaker 3: I was I was actually actually flew an airplane from
- 10:07Speaker 3: Dallas to UH to Santa Barbara, and I turned my
- 10:10Speaker 3: bumble on because I was talking to somebody else in
- 10:13Speaker 3: Dallas and we matched in like the fifteen minutes that
- 10:17Speaker 3: I turned it on when I was in California and
- 10:19Speaker 3: I'm not looking for a long distance relationship, you know. Yeah,
- 10:24Speaker 3: said something kind of kind of fun like, well you
- 10:26Speaker 3: couldn't handle it anyway. So I was like, oh, this
- 10:32Speaker 3: is probably the girl. I mean, nice, beautiful, so wonderful.
- 10:39Speaker 1: How old are what's the age difference. Are you guys
- 10:42Speaker 1: at the same age.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Six years apart? Okay, yeah, very close?
- 10:46Speaker 1: Are you younger? Are you? Are you cougar? Is she
- 10:49Speaker 1: a cougar?
- 10:50Speaker 3: I'm forty six, she's forty.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Okay, okay, the cougar.
- 10:58Speaker 1: So I can say it.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Right, you can say you're kog. You know, I like it.
- 11:04Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Good for you, buddy, Yeah, really good stuff.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Did she watch the show?
- 11:11Speaker 3: She did not?
- 11:12Speaker 1: She did that.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I swear everyone who meets somebody afterwards, I feel like
- 11:18Speaker 2: they didn't watch the show.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I feel like, right, isn't.
- 11:20Speaker 4: That jan didn't watch Danya didn't watch the show either,
- 11:24Speaker 4: so you know she's watched it.
- 11:26Speaker 5: But she was you know, she was a This is
- 11:29Speaker 5: a little embarrassing, Jesus.
- 11:32Speaker 4: She was you know, she was in preschool, so why
- 11:34Speaker 4: would she have watched the show. She was a senior
- 11:37Speaker 4: in high school for the record, so I mean she
- 11:42Speaker 4: was still in diapers. I mean, yeah, she watched it,
- 11:45Speaker 4: but she doesn't retain that. You know, God say, people.
- 11:50Speaker 5: So good.
- 12:01Speaker 4: It's actually kind of fun, probably for her because I
- 12:03Speaker 4: know Kenyon actually finds it to be a lot of fun,
- 12:05Speaker 4: Like we'll be out and people will you know, recognize
- 12:09Speaker 4: me from the show or whatever. And she's always like, like,
- 12:11Speaker 4: my kids now, and you know, trust has heard.
- 12:14Speaker 5: This a bunch.
- 12:14Speaker 4: But my son go, oh, daddy, is that your girlfriend
- 12:19Speaker 4: about my mom?
- 12:20Speaker 5: About his mom? And I'll go, I'll go, yeah, buddy,
- 12:23Speaker 5: it is.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And he'll go, Daddy used to have lots of girl
- 12:25Speaker 4: friends when he was the Bachelor, and he'll say it
- 12:27Speaker 4: to like anyone, you know, just like, oh, buddy, you know, so.
- 12:35Speaker 3: That is you, buddy, I've seen eighteen years later, people
- 12:39Speaker 3: still come up and they're you know, they still recognize
- 12:43Speaker 3: us from the show.
- 12:43Speaker 1: That is oh believing that's something actually. So this morning
- 12:48Speaker 1: I took Blakesley to.
- 12:50Speaker 2: A physical therapy appointment and the lady who was checking
- 12:53Speaker 2: us in, she was like, okay, what's your name, and
- 12:55Speaker 2: you know, I told her my name and then she's like, oh, that.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Seems to be a very well known name.
- 13:01Speaker 2: And she's like, you know, like she's in a medical facility,
- 13:06Speaker 2: so she probably is like I probably shouldn't say this,
- 13:09Speaker 2: but I'm going to anyway, and Blake, you know, blake
- 13:12Speaker 2: Sley's with me, my daughter, and we walk away and.
- 13:15Speaker 1: She's like, you know, has every has anyone ever been
- 13:18Speaker 1: mean or not nice when they like say hello or
- 13:22Speaker 1: recognize you or whatever. And I'm like, no, I feel
- 13:24Speaker 1: like everyone is just so nice and friendly, and you
- 13:28Speaker 1: know they you know, they say all that stuff online
- 13:32Speaker 1: or whatever, but not.
- 13:35Speaker 5: My face in the chat room, the chat room, they're
- 13:38Speaker 5: complete jerks.
- 13:40Speaker 4: Nice.
- 13:41Speaker 2: No, no, no, most of my people are are great,
- 13:45Speaker 2: and they're so supportive and so loving and so sweet.
- 13:48Speaker 1: But you know, they're all those people.
- 13:51Speaker 2: But the people that I meet on in person, I'm
- 13:54Speaker 2: sure it's the same with you guys. Everyone is so
- 13:56Speaker 2: kind and friendly and.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Just just sweet.
- 14:00Speaker 2: That's I love that too, that I've been able to
- 14:03Speaker 2: connect with so many people, you know, over the years.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's what you put out, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 4: it's what it's what you get, the vibe you've given off.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Just thankfully, I think I got edited well enough too
- 14:15Speaker 4: that it's always been my experience, you know as well.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Everyone's always been super nice. And I'm sure for you too.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Jake, Yeah, one hundred percent. You know, So it happened
- 14:26Speaker 3: more or it does? Uh uh, you know. Since selling
- 14:30Speaker 3: the Since selling the company, I went back to work.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Uh so, I fly for a big legacy airline that
- 14:37Speaker 3: kind of looks like the American flag without naming any names.
- 14:42Speaker 3: When I'm walking through the airport, I get recognized when
- 14:46Speaker 3: I'm in my uniform. Yeah, yeah, they know as pilot
- 14:49Speaker 3: Jake with with Pete Weber pilot Pete. Yeah. Oh yeah,
- 14:54Speaker 3: great guy.
- 14:55Speaker 1: You fly with him right now?
- 14:57Speaker 3: No, he flies for my competitor.
- 15:00Speaker 1: How funny.
- 15:02Speaker 3: That's funny as long as I don't The airlines don't
- 15:05Speaker 3: like us to say the name, but I think I
- 15:07Speaker 3: can say he flies for United, understand. Yeah, he flies
- 15:11Speaker 3: seven eighty seven for United, the great guy.
- 15:14Speaker 5: Yeah, that's awesome. That's awesome.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Hey, Jay, I got a question for you when you
- 15:17Speaker 4: were out, you know, out selling subscriptions for your company,
- 15:21Speaker 4: Like you would you roll up to a door and
- 15:23Speaker 4: they'd be like, why is the bachelor here selling me
- 15:26Speaker 4: a garbage pickup?
- 15:27Speaker 3: You know that's a good question. So the way that
- 15:31Speaker 3: I was able to leverage this and Chris, this is
- 15:33Speaker 3: the best advice you and I talked about it the
- 15:35Speaker 3: other day. The best advice Chris Harrison gave me. He said, Hey,
- 15:38Speaker 3: after the show, things change for quite some time, you know,
- 15:41Speaker 3: dega and don't quit your day job. Let this enhance
- 15:46Speaker 3: what you're already doing. Yeah, when I hear of somebody
- 15:49Speaker 3: going on the show and they change their profession to
- 15:53Speaker 3: go into entertainment, you know, it's just like, oh yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 3: every time, Yeah do that. Anyway, although I.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Did a little bit of that. I mean I was
- 16:03Speaker 2: a physical therapist. But it was hard for me because
- 16:07Speaker 2: you know, I asked for a second leave of absence
- 16:09Speaker 2: to go shoot Bachelorette, and when my boss didn't give
- 16:12Speaker 2: it to me, I moved out to California. And then
- 16:18Speaker 2: after the show, I was like, I don't know that
- 16:23Speaker 2: I can actually pass that exam again because it's been
- 16:28Speaker 2: you know, a couple years or a year or whatever,
- 16:30Speaker 2: and I would have had to take my licensure exam
- 16:35Speaker 2: again and I don't know if I would have passed it.
- 16:37Speaker 2: So I was like, I love the energy like I
- 16:40Speaker 2: had never been around. I had been around you know,
- 16:44Speaker 2: the professional sports stuff and you know, dancing that way,
- 16:50Speaker 2: but the energy of production and just all of the producers,
- 16:55Speaker 2: the crew, the cameraman, the audio people like I felt
- 16:59Speaker 2: I loved that energy and that's why I kind of
- 17:02Speaker 2: changed gears and went towards like hosting and everything. But
- 17:07Speaker 2: then when I met Ryan, I was like, Okay, bye, everybody,
- 17:10Speaker 2: I'm just going to focus on my relationship.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Yeah. Well, yeah, to that end, I did a ton
- 17:17Speaker 5: of hosting. I mean, I still do.
- 17:19Speaker 4: Yeah, But I was fortunate, like what you said, Trista,
- 17:22Speaker 4: I didn't have to choose one or the other. Like
- 17:24Speaker 4: I wasn't put in that spot. So I was able
- 17:26Speaker 4: to kind of keep my big gig in finance and
- 17:30Speaker 4: insurance and things like that because the company supported me,
- 17:33Speaker 4: you know, and I but I also did my best
- 17:35Speaker 4: not to make it a conflict.
- 17:37Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Like I would when I was offered something, I go
- 17:40Speaker 4: to my people I was working with and be like, Okay,
- 17:43Speaker 4: if I take this period of time off to do this,
- 17:45Speaker 4: are you cool with that?
- 17:45Speaker 5: They'd be like, of course, you know.
- 17:47Speaker 4: They didn't want it to get in the way because
- 17:48Speaker 4: they knew it would probably be helpful.
- 17:50Speaker 5: For what I did as well. So I mean, you know,
- 17:52Speaker 5: from that perspective, I mean, but Jake, you went right
- 17:54Speaker 5: back to flying right.
- 17:56Speaker 3: I did, Yeah, because you know, a huge passion of mine.
- 18:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna answer your first question. So where
- 18:03Speaker 3: I really leveraged the power of being on the show
- 18:06Speaker 3: is when we started approaching cities for city contracts, and
- 18:11Speaker 3: then I would stand in address council, you know, mayor,
- 18:14Speaker 3: and and then and then and then the entire council.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Somebody typically would say, hey, I know now I know
- 18:20Speaker 3: where I know you've.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, how did that guy from that thing?
- 18:25Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, that's that's that's honestly, where it really helped
- 18:30Speaker 3: was when I was addressing cities, and then there was
- 18:32Speaker 3: kind of that familiarity. They're like, well, we kind of
- 18:34Speaker 3: already know you. I'm like, yeah, you do. You should
- 18:36Speaker 3: give me your trash con track. Looking to your point,
- 18:46Speaker 3: you know, the dynamics of the show have changed so
- 18:49Speaker 3: dramatically with you know, the all the shift in streaming platforms.
- 18:53Speaker 3: Like when you were on the show, I think Mike
- 18:55Speaker 3: Fleiss told me you had maybe thirty two million watching
- 18:58Speaker 3: your shows.
- 19:00Speaker 1: One million million.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you know. I was on a couple of years
- 19:05Speaker 3: later and they were even you know, there were even
- 19:06Speaker 3: more more options.
- 19:09Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Now I think that the show they're lucky if they
- 19:12Speaker 3: get three to five million.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Yeah right, yeah, tons more engagement online and stuff than
- 19:19Speaker 4: we ever had, right because we didn't.
- 19:20Speaker 5: Even have to have it.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, totally. I just you're right, it's it's shifted completely.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, familiar to you know, thirty one million
- 19:33Speaker 3: people you know, watched your finale and did that journey
- 19:36Speaker 3: with you. So being able to transition into a host
- 19:40Speaker 3: role was probably very comfortable for you know, America to
- 19:44Speaker 3: to to accepts like, hey, we we love Trista, we
- 19:47Speaker 3: love you, Bob, you know, we want to see more
- 19:49Speaker 3: of you. And so it was really easy for platforms
- 19:51Speaker 3: to go, okay, this makes sense.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, for sure, Yeah it was. It was easy,
- 19:55Speaker 4: and it was a nice transition too. Like Trista said,
- 19:58Speaker 4: is such a fun energy and such a fun and
- 20:00Speaker 4: viron that why wouldn't you when given the opportunity, I
- 20:03Speaker 4: would say, you know, absolutely take it, you know, because
- 20:06Speaker 4: it's so much fun and what a great learning experience.
- 20:09Speaker 4: And I mean, Jake, you did some acting too. I
- 20:12Speaker 4: mean you did a couple of soaps. I remember you
- 20:14Speaker 4: did some stuff.
- 20:15Speaker 1: That's right, Holden the Beautiful arm.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I played a pilot.
- 20:21Speaker 5: I had to be a stretch. I had to be
- 20:22Speaker 5: a stretch for you. You're like this character.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I don't know how to do this.
- 20:27Speaker 3: It pays more to play a pilot than to be
- 20:29Speaker 3: a pilot.
- 20:29Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's probably. I know, that's got to be true.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I wish they would hire Ryan to be a
- 20:39Speaker 2: firefighter on a soap because there you go.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Yeah, you could definitely do it, man, you can definitely
- 20:45Speaker 4: do it.
- 20:45Speaker 3: I cannot believe this many years I've not I've not
- 20:49Speaker 3: bumped into you and Ryan.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You haven't met Ryan ever.
- 20:55Speaker 5: Such a great guy.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Man.
- 20:56Speaker 5: You would love him, Jake, you would absolutely love him.
- 20:58Speaker 1: That's crazy. Yeah, he's good, peeps, he is, right.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Yeah, we just moved to Denver like last year at
- 21:08Speaker 2: the start of the school year, from Vale. We lived
- 21:10Speaker 2: in Vail for twenty years, but Brian has been working
- 21:13Speaker 2: for Denver Fire for I think four years now, and
- 21:17Speaker 2: he was commuting for three years two hours, which is.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Like, you know a lot.
- 21:25Speaker 2: So yeah, we did that, and then, you know, for
- 21:28Speaker 2: a variate of other reasons, we made the move.
- 21:30Speaker 1: But still love it. Love our colorad a life, that's
- 21:34Speaker 1: for sure.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Got you so beautiful, so beautiful.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Where are You're still in Dallas?
- 21:39Speaker 5: You're still in Dallas?
- 21:40Speaker 1: Right?
- 21:40Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm actually in a skyscraper in Dallas right now.
- 21:45Speaker 5: Very nice. I know, with a blurred out background, I
- 21:48Speaker 5: couldn't tell.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Yeah, is this a bachelor pad, and you're going to
- 21:52Speaker 2: be maybe moving or I don't know, finding a place
- 21:57Speaker 2: with a certain somebody soon.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Amy is here in Dallas, Dallas with me.
- 22:03Speaker 4: No.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Actually, so when I sold my company, a great friend
- 22:06Speaker 3: of mine who's who's built a nice little five million
- 22:09Speaker 3: dollar company called me and said, hey, I want would
- 22:11Speaker 3: you come in and do the same thing you did
- 22:14Speaker 3: with Rhino Removal your company?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Awesome?
- 22:17Speaker 3: So we explored, you know, the relationship for a while,
- 22:20Speaker 3: and then I came in as his interim chief operating
- 22:22Speaker 3: officer and then eventually took the role. And so we're
- 22:26Speaker 3: we're setting this business called the Destination Channel and they
- 22:30Speaker 3: sell travel content to typically airs on CBS, but it's
- 22:35Speaker 3: it's a show called Staycation and then another platform that's
- 22:38Speaker 3: more business to business called Destination How fun. Yeah, we're
- 22:43Speaker 3: just getting the company ready for scale and raising money
- 22:46Speaker 3: and that's awesome.
- 22:48Speaker 1: If you need any hosts, you know, you've got to
- 22:51Speaker 1: right here.
- 22:52Speaker 5: We're here for you, Bud.
- 22:53Speaker 4: We're here for you, and we're a really knockout one
- 22:56Speaker 4: two punch too, So you throw us in there in
- 22:57Speaker 4: tand and we can deliver.
- 22:59Speaker 3: I think that is actually a great idea that's a
- 23:04Speaker 3: great idea.
- 23:06Speaker 5: So all three of us on there, Buddy.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Go on to Pluto and type in staycation and will
- 23:12Speaker 3: I will. It's something that's you know, that that you
- 23:15Speaker 3: that you think it's interesting. Rob Rob Beletta, the creator.
- 23:20Speaker 3: He is, uh, he is all about his host See
- 23:23Speaker 3: that's kind of I work with the sales team and
- 23:25Speaker 3: the finance department. Rob is a great guy, but yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 3: he's always like, oh my gosh, we need more hosts.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I love it.
- 23:35Speaker 5: Yep, you got our numbers, buddy, you got our numbers.
- 23:39Speaker 5: We'll give you the We'll give you the Bachelor Nation
- 23:41Speaker 5: family discounts. So just make sure you keep us posting.
- 23:45Speaker 5: There you go, there you go. Well, buddy, thank you
- 23:48Speaker 5: for joining us. What a great time catching.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Up with you.
- 23:50Speaker 5: So excited to hear everything going on.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Not to put two things put things too far in
- 23:59Speaker 4: front of you. But I'm much older than you and
- 24:01Speaker 4: I and I have to tell you I've got a
- 24:03Speaker 4: five year old to three year old kicking around downstairs
- 24:05Speaker 4: right now, So it's it's, uh, you know, you're kind
- 24:07Speaker 4: of at the prime of that that parenting window too,
- 24:11Speaker 4: so you know, just keep that in mind.
- 24:14Speaker 3: It would be fun to have kids with Amy.
- 24:16Speaker 5: You know what, dude, can I tell you something?
- 24:18Speaker 4: So I was I was pretty much set that I
- 24:22Speaker 4: was going to remain you know, I got married and divorce.
- 24:24Speaker 4: I was like, Okay, I think I'm done. And then
- 24:26Speaker 4: I met Kenyon and I was like, I want to
- 24:28Speaker 4: have a family with this person.
- 24:30Speaker 5: Like that was that was really what drove things for me.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Was it was it was still fun, and it was
- 24:35Speaker 4: still you know whatever, but it was like, oh my god,
- 24:38Speaker 4: she'd be such an amazing mom, and I feel like
- 24:40Speaker 4: I would just be so you know, I just felt
- 24:43Speaker 4: like it would be such a complimentary relationship to be
- 24:46Speaker 4: a parent with her and be able to share that
- 24:49Speaker 4: with her, and and it was, you know, so far,
- 24:51Speaker 4: so good.
- 24:52Speaker 5: I'll put it that way. So you know, we feel
- 24:54Speaker 5: really blessed to have what we have.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah, if we get engaged, I've been thinking about you know,
- 24:58Speaker 3: it's like, golly, do I do I keep it really
- 25:01Speaker 3: really really quiet? Do I just tell a couple of
- 25:03Speaker 3: people because it's gonna I think it'll get out there.
- 25:06Speaker 3: I don't know why anybody would care anymore, but I
- 25:08Speaker 3: have a feeling it would get out there. What do
- 25:10Speaker 3: I do? You know, how do I be respectful of her.
- 25:13Speaker 3: What are her thoughts on it? Yeah, I mean, do
- 25:15Speaker 3: you think that would get pick up buddy?
- 25:18Speaker 5: There's no way to keep a lid on it. I
- 25:20Speaker 5: mean at the end of the day, you know, if.
- 25:22Speaker 4: You tell anybody, if you put it on social media,
- 25:25Speaker 4: which you know that's what Kenyon and I did when
- 25:27Speaker 4: we got engaged. Is she's very of that of that mindset,
- 25:31Speaker 4: so she like posted a picture of her ring and everything.
- 25:33Speaker 5: The next thing, you know, it's like, you know, then
- 25:35Speaker 5: it just unfolds.
- 25:36Speaker 4: But I think people, you know, I think you've you know,
- 25:40Speaker 4: the fact that you feel like it might not is
- 25:42Speaker 4: a great reason why it probably would, you know what
- 25:45Speaker 4: I mean, because you're not.
- 25:46Speaker 1: You just never know. I mean I said, who knows?
- 25:49Speaker 2: Because I feel like most of the time, people don't
- 25:52Speaker 2: really care about what's going on in our lives. I
- 25:54Speaker 2: mean they care, but they don't care, like they're like,
- 25:57Speaker 2: uh whatever, they're old.
- 25:58Speaker 1: News or whatever.
- 25:59Speaker 2: And then like, you know, something happened recently or this
- 26:04Speaker 2: year where people were like.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Oh my god, is she dead or did they get
- 26:07Speaker 1: a divorce or whatever, So.
- 26:10Speaker 2: You never know what they're actually going to like pick
- 26:14Speaker 2: up on and care about.
- 26:15Speaker 4: You know.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Yeah, so true, Yeah, so true.
- 26:19Speaker 4: But you know what, at the end of the day,
- 26:21Speaker 4: as long as you're happy, then that's all that matters.
- 26:24Speaker 5: And it will radiate to all the right people.
- 26:26Speaker 1: That's true.
- 26:27Speaker 4: That's right, And I will tell you this, Jake. A
- 26:29Speaker 4: side note, Trista knows this to be true. Every single
- 26:33Speaker 4: Bachelor related wedding that I've been invited to.
- 26:39Speaker 5: Still here. It's still going strong, Trista.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I'll let you speak to that. Yeah, yeah, he likes
- 26:45Speaker 2: to have that claim to fame, so but he hasn't
- 26:48Speaker 2: been invited to all of them.
- 26:49Speaker 1: So that's true.
- 26:51Speaker 5: That is true.
- 26:52Speaker 2: I have it.
- 26:53Speaker 4: So that's why it came up in the first place,
- 26:55Speaker 4: because I was like, man if I get snubbed anymore,
- 26:57Speaker 4: so I'm like, you know, when I am there, it's
- 27:00Speaker 4: like a gold mine, guys, it's like success unlimited. So
- 27:06Speaker 4: Tsa lately has been she'll she'll step in and go,
- 27:09Speaker 4: you know, like the Joe and the Golden Bash Rush
- 27:12Speaker 4: good Joe. And I think it would be really great
- 27:15Speaker 4: if if there is a wedding, if Bob's invited, thank you, Tristan,
- 27:18Speaker 4: because without Tristing, man, I'm not going.
- 27:20Speaker 1: So she knows that's so funny. Well, thank you Jake
- 27:25Speaker 1: so much.
- 27:26Speaker 2: It was great catching up with the pilot turned crash
- 27:30Speaker 2: man turned pilot turned something.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Else and says something else. I love it.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I love revolution and I just love that you're happy.
- 27:38Speaker 2: So good luck with all of the fun that you
- 27:41Speaker 2: have in your future.
- 27:43Speaker 1: And thanks for.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Thank you buddy.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Great catch up with you.
- 27:56Speaker 1: That was fun, that was awesome. That is crazy.
- 28:01Speaker 5: I mean, that's something.
- 28:02Speaker 2: It's crazy and it's funny because gosh, years ago, one
- 28:06Speaker 2: of Ryan's firefiver buddies did the same thing because they
- 28:09Speaker 2: can have side jobs because they you know, they're flexible
- 28:12Speaker 2: schedule when they're not working. And Ryan was like, I
- 28:16Speaker 2: want to go buy a tow truck, Like he wanted
- 28:20Speaker 2: to start like a tow truck business. So maybe that's
- 28:22Speaker 2: something in the future, am I will say. Thinking about
- 28:27Speaker 2: colleges for the kids. I was sitting next to one
- 28:31Speaker 2: of Max's teammate hockey teammates' parents and talking to her
- 28:37Speaker 2: about her son, he's a senior this year and she's
- 28:41Speaker 2: I said, so, what is he thinking he wants to do?
- 28:44Speaker 2: And she was like, well, we don't really push college
- 28:46Speaker 2: in our family, Like whatever he wants to do and
- 28:49Speaker 2: or maybe take over the business. And her husband has
- 28:54Speaker 2: a like plumbing business, Like he was just saying plumbing,
- 28:58Speaker 2: I think an age back and he in like seven
- 29:01Speaker 2: different states.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Or something, and so it's like, gosh, you don't have to.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I mean, please, it's not like we're going to tell
- 29:09Speaker 2: our kids don't go to college. But because I do
- 29:12Speaker 2: feel like the education and the experience of college is
- 29:15Speaker 2: so valuable. But yes, it really kind of opened my
- 29:18Speaker 2: eyes to being like, you know what, whatever they want
- 29:22Speaker 2: to do, I want to be supportive of.
- 29:23Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, I agree with you. And the trades
- 29:26Speaker 5: are big too.
- 29:27Speaker 4: I mean, you know, the trades of like being a
- 29:29Speaker 4: plumber or being an hvac or being you know, someone
- 29:32Speaker 4: who's skilled in those crafts. That stuff's never going to
- 29:35Speaker 4: go away. And so at the end of the day,
- 29:37Speaker 4: I agree with you. I mean, there's so much, there's
- 29:39Speaker 4: so much out.
- 29:40Speaker 5: There, and you know, I mean, you know, yeah, I
- 29:44Speaker 5: got to tell you.
- 29:45Speaker 4: I met this kid yesterday who came who was just
- 29:47Speaker 4: he was putting up Christmas tree lights in my neighborhood
- 29:49Speaker 4: and so I was driving by and I was like, hey,
- 29:52Speaker 4: if you want another job, I'm right around the corner.
- 29:54Speaker 5: You know, I need some help because I do it
- 29:55Speaker 5: all by myself.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:57Speaker 5: He shows up.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Last night and much a well mannered and well spoken
- 30:02Speaker 4: young man help me with my lights.
- 30:04Speaker 5: I'm like, what can I pay it. He's like, you
- 30:06Speaker 5: know what, you don't have to pay me. It's okay.
- 30:08Speaker 5: I really enjoyed getting to meet you, and you know,
- 30:10Speaker 5: and I'm like, hold on a second.
- 30:11Speaker 4: I'm like, you got this is of course I paid him,
- 30:14Speaker 4: but the point was I was just like, you know,
- 30:17Speaker 4: I didn't think they made kids like this anymore. And
- 30:19Speaker 4: I asked him, I'm like, you know, what year are
- 30:21Speaker 4: you And he's like, well, I should be technically a
- 30:24Speaker 4: freshman in college, but I chose not to go to college.
- 30:26Speaker 4: And he's like, right now I want he goes. I know,
- 30:29Speaker 4: I want to be a teacher, but I think I
- 30:31Speaker 4: want to teach English internationally. And so he's like, I'm
- 30:34Speaker 4: going to go to a junior college here in town.
- 30:37Speaker 4: I decided just recently I'm going to do this, and
- 30:39Speaker 4: you know, in the next year, I'm gonna, you know,
- 30:41Speaker 4: I'm gonna do my degree, and then over the next
- 30:43Speaker 4: two years and then I'm gonna and I'm like, good
- 30:45Speaker 4: for you man, I mean totally outside of the box
- 30:48Speaker 4: of how everyone thinks.
- 30:49Speaker 5: And he's getting real world experience and his.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Real he has a real job right now, and but
- 30:56Speaker 4: he's been doing the Christmas tree light stuff to save
- 30:58Speaker 4: extra money for college.
- 31:00Speaker 5: And yeah, and then he was like, you don't have
- 31:02Speaker 5: to pay me. I'm like, no, dude, I will be
- 31:03Speaker 5: paying you.
- 31:04Speaker 4: But right right, I was like, that's not how you
- 31:06Speaker 4: get to college, buddy. College is expensive. So but yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 4: I thought, I think you're right. There's so many different avenues,
- 31:12Speaker 4: it's pretty remarkable.
- 31:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I love that Jake took that and ran with it.
- 31:15Speaker 2: So happy for him. It was really great to talk
- 31:18Speaker 2: to him and hear about his exciting plans. It's always
- 31:23Speaker 2: fun to talk to our ogs.
- 31:25Speaker 5: He doesn't have one of them, and he's a legit one.
- 31:28Speaker 1: What season was he I want to.
- 31:31Speaker 5: Say he was season seven, That's what I'm gonna guess.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Who was after jefse then Grant, Jason Vesnik.
- 31:39Speaker 2: No, because I feel like once Jason hit, it was
- 31:42Speaker 2: like bam bam dam the people after him.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and so I don't well.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Okay, so Ali was on Jake's season. Oh, I can't
- 31:50Speaker 2: see it. Alan, what does it say Jake.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Season fourteen of the eighty C Reality to the Bachelor
- 31:55Speaker 4: in twenty ten. Yes, and then in the oh, I
- 31:59Speaker 4: like this a little extra because we talking about this
- 32:01Speaker 4: earlier in the season finale, Pavelka proposed the contestant proposed
- 32:04Speaker 4: a contestant in Vienna, gi already, but they broke up
- 32:06Speaker 4: in June of twenty ten.
- 32:08Speaker 5: Man, that's interesting. So it was twenty ten. God, I
- 32:10Speaker 5: thought it was so much earlier than that.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Wow, I mean yeah, I feel like I'm so old
- 32:17Speaker 2: every time we talk about you know, O, geez.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Well he was so think of this this way, he
