- 0:41Speaker 2: Calgary team that is playing like there's nothing to lose
- 0:45Speaker 2: on their end, already out of playoff contention at five
- 0:48Speaker 2: to three and two in the last ten games. We'll
- 0:50Speaker 2: catch up with Ian Fornessen just a bit, joining us
- 0:53Speaker 2: by phone.
- 0:54Speaker 3: We'll discuss the Krack in.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Victory over Vegas on Thursday night, potential roads ahead for
- 0:59Speaker 2: the Crack and their direction for this offseason. After Todd
- 1:02Speaker 2: Leiwiki addressed the media on Thursday morning. Plus also I
- 1:07Speaker 2: look ahead here to game two of the three game
- 1:09Speaker 2: homestand additionally, a conversation from the Krack and dressing room
- 1:13Speaker 2: with Berkeley Catton lies right around the corner. Will catch
- 1:17Speaker 2: up with more on his game and where the Krack
- 1:19Speaker 2: and feel they're at right now emotionally with four games
- 1:23Speaker 2: left heading into this matchup Ian Forness and Berkeley Catton.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Those conversations coming up in just a bit. Thursday night,
- 1:31Speaker 2: the Kraken again had no margin for air against Vegas,
- 1:35Speaker 2: and down three to one in period three, found a
- 1:38Speaker 2: way to get going by the way of opportunity thirteen.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Fifty five remaining in the third period three one Vegas.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Adam marsit near side, sends it in front. Bertley Catton scores.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Adam Marson ripped it down the right side.
- 1:58Speaker 5: It took a funny hop off a stanchion in the corner.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Aiden Hill left the net to play it behind the goal.
- 2:05Speaker 5: It bounced right to Berkeleycatt, who buries it for his
- 2:09Speaker 5: seventh of his NHL career, and the cracking back down
- 2:12Speaker 5: one three two.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Well, this is exactly the play there.
- 2:15Speaker 6: Adam Arson's trying to get the puck in deep so
- 2:17Speaker 6: that Berkeley Catt can go after it, and.
- 2:19Speaker 4: It's Eaton Hill.
- 2:20Speaker 6: Like you said, behind the net, going to play that
- 2:22Speaker 6: bucket hits.
- 2:23Speaker 4: A stanchion, gets right up to the front, Brook leccatt.
- 2:26Speaker 6: It's got an entire cage to put that one in.
- 2:29Speaker 6: That'll probably be his easiest bull this year. Three two
- 2:31Speaker 6: big and Iman then will slide one while diving through.
- 2:35Speaker 4: The flute paint. It just missed the glove of the
- 2:37Speaker 4: aid in hell.
- 2:38Speaker 7: BigMan.
- 2:46Speaker 5: Bobby McMahon from the right circle found the loose puck,
- 2:51Speaker 5: whipped it over the right shoulder, upper ninety in the
- 2:55Speaker 5: far corner, and the crack and tie the game.
- 2:58Speaker 6: Three three ten left Here in the third was some
- 3:02Speaker 6: deep pressure on the offense is owned by seattle On
- 3:04Speaker 6: this goal.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Every comes up with a loose.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Puck in the corner, feeds it out to mccannon right
- 3:08Speaker 4: up on the dot.
- 3:09Speaker 6: McMahon right on the dot, and McMahon we talked about
- 3:12Speaker 6: this earlier, a quick release on a wrist shot.
- 3:15Speaker 4: He beat Dad and he'll block her side. This game's
- 3:17Speaker 4: tied at three.
- 3:18Speaker 6: Here comes the left handed rookie Berkeley cat into the
- 3:22Speaker 6: New York circle.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Caton puts on the brakes down the stot shots. What
- 3:31Speaker 4: a move by the cad Berkeley Catton. He's ad a
- 3:35Speaker 4: hell quick release on that shot. Joe, he's a cord
- 3:39Speaker 4: the game in his crease. Dorothe, the lefty picks it up,
- 3:44Speaker 4: He'll cut to the near side. Dorothy to the slot
- 3:48Speaker 4: side by doing a.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Card and the Seattle tracking back in the win column
- 3:53Speaker 5: with a.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Four to three win in a shootout over Vegas.
- 3:57Speaker 6: Well, that's a gutsy win right there. Partner battle back
- 4:00Speaker 6: in the third period to tie this thing up. Couldn't
- 4:03Speaker 6: get it done in overtime, Get it done in a shootout.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Cracking win four to three.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Crack and win Round one of the lane Lambert versus
- 4:10Speaker 2: John Tortorella battle between Seattle and Vegas, as the Kraken
- 4:14Speaker 2: guaranteed the season series victory in a four to three
- 4:18Speaker 2: come from behind shootout win three to zero. That's our
- 4:21Speaker 2: record now against the Golden Knights, with one more matchup
- 4:24Speaker 2: to come next week in Game eighty one at Tea
- 4:28Speaker 2: Mobile Arena. Additionally, it was the third comeback win for
- 4:31Speaker 2: the Kraken when trailing after two periods, a play for
- 4:34Speaker 2: the regular season, helped out by Berkeley Catton, who got
- 4:38Speaker 2: the cracking back on the board in period three with
- 4:41Speaker 2: his seventh goal of the season, Bobby McMahon tied the game.
- 4:44Speaker 2: He is two away from reaching thirty goals in one
- 4:47Speaker 2: season for the first time in his NHL career, and
- 4:50Speaker 2: for good measure, the Crack and breaking out of an
- 4:52Speaker 2: eight game power play drought. With Jared mccamm parking his
- 4:55Speaker 2: twentieth goal of the year, he has now reached a
- 4:58Speaker 2: twenty goal plateau in consecutive seasons, all in a Crack
- 5:02Speaker 2: in Jersey never accomplished before in his NHL career, with
- 5:06Speaker 2: Berkeley Catton officially earning the shootout winner while Joey Decord
- 5:11Speaker 2: shut down Pavel dora Fayev in round five. The very
- 5:15Speaker 2: next day, the Kraken assembling for practice at Kraken Community
- 5:18Speaker 2: ice Plex. So before we get to Ian Furness, here's
- 5:21Speaker 2: our conversation with Berkeley Catton from inside the Crack and dressing.
- 5:25Speaker 8: Room, from you know, the last forty eight hours. As
- 5:27Speaker 8: crazy as it was to still see this team hang
- 5:30Speaker 8: in the mix right now with four games to go,
- 5:32Speaker 8: how would you best describe whether it might might be
- 5:35Speaker 8: the vibe or the temperature of this from here moving forward?
- 5:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it's awesome.
- 5:38Speaker 7: I think that game last night was huge for us,
- 5:41Speaker 7: especially you know that third period in rallying back together
- 5:44Speaker 7: and you know, it was a lot of fun, and
- 5:46Speaker 7: you know, we really banned together like I kind of said,
- 5:48Speaker 7: and just got the job done.
- 5:50Speaker 8: What did Bobby's goal to help lead this game back
- 5:54Speaker 8: to what tie game do for the energy in the
- 5:56Speaker 8: building if you could notice it.
- 5:58Speaker 7: Oh, he's been unbelievable for us here ever since he's
- 6:01Speaker 7: been here. He's you know, just contributed to every game
- 6:04Speaker 7: and and been a positive impact.
- 6:06Speaker 3: So I'm not surprised to see him.
- 6:08Speaker 9: Do that, to be honest.
- 6:09Speaker 7: And and he's a he's a gamer, so he's pretty
- 6:12Speaker 7: awesome to see.
- 6:12Speaker 8: How would you best describe the goal that you got
- 6:14Speaker 8: last night when it comes to opportunity?
- 6:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I feel like I've had a lot
- 6:18Speaker 7: this year where.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I should have scored your own one.
- 6:20Speaker 7: Then yeah, and got a good bounce off the dasher.
- 6:23Speaker 7: So it's funny how hockey works. And you know, in
- 6:26Speaker 7: a game I didn't think I was probably good, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 7: I wasn't feeling it, and then to get a bounce
- 6:30Speaker 7: like that is pretty pretty awesome.
- 6:32Speaker 8: Lane had something that was pretty complimentary about your game
- 6:35Speaker 8: and how much you've come along with you know, not
- 6:36Speaker 8: just you know, the offensive part of it, but also
- 6:39Speaker 8: you know, managing the play of the ice, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 8: limiting mistakes as well.
- 6:42Speaker 3: How much more comfortable do you.
- 6:44Speaker 8: Feel with the pace of this league now than, say,
- 6:46Speaker 8: you know, versus back in September or October.
- 6:48Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 6:49Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, obviously learned a lot this year, and
- 6:52Speaker 7: like you said, there's there's a lot to it. The
- 6:54Speaker 7: little details are so big and and just trying to
- 6:58Speaker 7: figure those out and manage my game the best of
- 7:00Speaker 7: my abilities has been a you know, a big learning
- 7:03Speaker 7: process for me this year. And obviously Lane's help me
- 7:05Speaker 7: out a lot, and the whole coaching staff has, so
- 7:07Speaker 7: you know, just got to continue to keep growing here
- 7:10Speaker 7: and I think I think I'm in.
- 7:11Speaker 3: A great position to do that.
- 7:12Speaker 8: What difference is there with prepping for a four pm game,
- 7:14Speaker 8: to say, versus a seven pm or a very very
- 7:16Speaker 8: early game.
- 7:17Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't think we'll be going in and we
- 7:18Speaker 7: won't be going in the morning, so you know, maybe
- 7:21Speaker 7: get up a little earlier and get a get some
- 7:24Speaker 7: in and then still like to get a nap in.
- 7:27Speaker 9: Not it, don't change it.
- 7:28Speaker 7: Up too much, but obviously it is three hours earlier,
- 7:30Speaker 7: so I'd say just the biggest thing is not going
- 7:32Speaker 7: in the rank in the morning and just kind of
- 7:33Speaker 7: doing your own time, all.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Right, coming up today four pm Pacific time, face off
- 7:38Speaker 2: a little earlier than usual here, So what better man
- 7:41Speaker 2: to ask about the adjustments in showtime then the mayor
- 7:45Speaker 2: of Maple Valley, Ian Fornesh joining us right now? Of course,
- 7:48Speaker 2: theest team host on the KRACK and Hockey Network one
- 7:51Speaker 2: to three week days on ninety three to three kJ RFM.
- 7:54Speaker 2: At least I thought it was one to three on Friday.
- 7:58Speaker 10: Yeah, no, yeah, we got evacuated.
- 8:00Speaker 9: It was fine.
- 8:01Speaker 10: I'm a little upset. I wish it would have happened
- 8:03Speaker 10: like two hours earlier at the started my Friday at
- 8:07Speaker 10: at one o'clock, but you know, it is what it is. Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 10: that's the first time we got evacuated once before from
- 8:14Speaker 10: that building and it was like the middle of the show,
- 8:18Speaker 10: so it's the second time it's happened there. I don't
- 8:21Speaker 10: know what the deal is, but yeah, that was kind
- 8:23Speaker 10: of weird today or yesterday, I guess, but it was,
- 8:25Speaker 10: uh yeah whatever, I was done, man, But it's not
- 8:30Speaker 10: my blockdown, you know, four flights of stairs and got
- 8:34Speaker 10: to the park lower parking level, and it's like, wow,
- 8:36Speaker 10: why is nobody else even I just got my car
- 8:38Speaker 10: and left.
- 8:38Speaker 9: I full out.
- 8:38Speaker 10: There's like a hundred people out there like, well, either
- 8:41Speaker 10: I'm the smart one or the dumb one. But all
- 8:43Speaker 10: I know is I got out of there at time.
- 8:44Speaker 2: So and then there's Dave and and then there's David
- 8:47Speaker 2: Maler on location just having.
- 8:49Speaker 3: To fill Phil fill and fill with nothing. Oh that
- 8:52Speaker 3: that is an unenviable task.
- 8:54Speaker 10: But yeah, Friday, Friday was not the day to be
- 8:57Speaker 10: on remote because making him do a show. If he
- 8:59Speaker 10: was at the studio, he could have just gone home.
- 9:01Speaker 3: And oh goodness.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I certainly hope that all are okay
- 9:06Speaker 2: as far as the serious matters involved here, But we
- 9:09Speaker 2: got a game to play coming up. There's four of
- 9:11Speaker 2: them left now for the Kraken, who still do not
- 9:13Speaker 2: have an E by their name. And you'll hear it
- 9:15Speaker 2: from anybody in the room. You'll hear it from Lane Lambert.
- 9:18Speaker 2: No one is going down without a fight, and the
- 9:20Speaker 2: Kraken fought to see another day against the Vegas Golden Knights.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Ian I want to touch on this because whenever you
- 9:28Speaker 2: get a team that drifts further and further away from
- 9:31Speaker 2: the realistic line of the Stanley Cup playoffs, you then
- 9:35Speaker 2: begin to hear about the old T word, and I
- 9:39Speaker 2: think you know which one I'm talking about in a
- 9:42Speaker 2: rhymes with bank. But a great point I thought that
- 9:46Speaker 2: you brought up on your show the other day, and
- 9:50Speaker 2: I will add here to this. The dangers of accepting
- 9:54Speaker 2: a mentality that aligns with that is that I think
- 9:58Speaker 2: that it begins to see suriously affect culture, which can
- 10:02Speaker 2: have some long term ramifications. Would you like to have
- 10:05Speaker 2: your team in a position to get a high draft
- 10:09Speaker 2: pick if you don't make the playoffs at the end
- 10:11Speaker 2: of the season, The answer is yes. But for me
- 10:15Speaker 2: to see a team that was still teetering last night
- 10:18Speaker 2: yet find a way to band together to play to
- 10:21Speaker 2: show what's working here for head coach Lane Lambert, I
- 10:24Speaker 2: thought was incredibly refreshing. And then after period three, game
- 10:29Speaker 2: tied by Bobby McMahon, I said this on the postgame
- 10:32Speaker 2: show with Al Koniski. There was something I felt that
- 10:35Speaker 2: hadn't been felt that late in a game at home
- 10:39Speaker 2: for a long long time, and that was energy.
- 10:42Speaker 3: Your thoughts.
- 10:43Speaker 10: Yeah, I think the key is is, first of all,
- 10:46Speaker 10: the HL is not about taking ye know, you and
- 10:50Speaker 10: I both know that that's not what the NHL does.
- 10:52Speaker 10: It'sbout how they operate and which makes it, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 10: a great league in a sense, like it's not the NBA,
- 10:58Speaker 10: I think inherently, the way that roster are constructed and
- 11:02Speaker 10: so forth. It's not you know, tankings just wouldn't be
- 11:05Speaker 10: part of the fabric of the National Hocheyleague. Ever, Uh,
- 11:09Speaker 10: it's still a lottery. You know, you're still still by
- 11:12Speaker 10: chance and the ESH you crease your chances if you
- 11:14Speaker 10: finished thirty second like Vancouver will, or thirty first or
- 11:18Speaker 10: thirty if what have you. But so like that, that
- 11:21Speaker 10: all makes sense, Mike, you we all understand how that operates,
- 11:24Speaker 10: but they don't. That's not how the AHL does it.
- 11:25Speaker 10: And so what's the alternative. We'll keep playing hard. And
- 11:30Speaker 10: I thought on Thursday it was interesting because they're they're
- 11:34Speaker 10: you know, they're playing that game and they're down to
- 11:37Speaker 10: malf and OK, they come back at an app that's
- 11:39Speaker 10: three to one in the third period very easily.
- 11:44Speaker 9: They could have just capped out.
- 11:46Speaker 10: Now maybe they would have anyway, but they got a
- 11:49Speaker 10: break stanchion. It's the assist Berkeley Catton going inside the chic.
- 11:55Speaker 2: They drew it up in practice, just like they drew
- 11:59Speaker 2: it up.
- 12:01Speaker 10: But to their credit, they get that goal three to two.
- 12:04Speaker 10: Now you got some life. There's some life back in
- 12:06Speaker 10: the building. And then Bobby McMahon's scores ties it up
- 12:09Speaker 10: and they get to win in the shootout. And what
- 12:12Speaker 10: was really kind of, you know, Bretfastling to this on
- 12:14Speaker 10: RTV show, like pretty entertaining hockey game when.
- 12:16Speaker 9: You look at it all said and done.
- 12:18Speaker 10: A pretty good hockey game and pretty remarkable because one
- 12:22Speaker 10: team is playing for a division title. That was Vegas's
- 12:25Speaker 10: game in hand on Edmonton and they were two back
- 12:28Speaker 10: and Seattle's playing out the string. I mean, he had
- 12:31Speaker 10: the ease not next to their name, but we're all
- 12:33Speaker 10: being honest with ourselves that they're done. So I thought
- 12:37Speaker 10: that said a lot about the character of the team.
- 12:40Speaker 10: I think it said a lot about the head coach
- 12:43Speaker 10: and what he's trying to build and in still with
- 12:45Speaker 10: this group. And so it was a positive night all
- 12:48Speaker 10: the way around. Yeah, And you know the funny thing
- 12:50Speaker 10: is it didn't really affect them in terms of lottery odds,
- 12:53Speaker 10: I don't think it really hurts them too bad. So yeah,
- 12:56Speaker 10: it's you know, good night for Seattle on Thursday.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Also mentioned in our show was something I thought that
- 13:03Speaker 2: was terrific, originally raised as far as a topic by
- 13:07Speaker 2: Alison Lucan on Twitter and X during the game the
- 13:10Speaker 2: other night. And this is our first conversation lengthier kind
- 13:14Speaker 2: since Todd Liwiki went to the podium to discuss the
- 13:19Speaker 2: move with Ron Francis moving on at the end of
- 13:23Speaker 2: this season. And there's the word that we've been talking about, audit,
- 13:26Speaker 2: and it's done here with a pretty transparent purpose from
- 13:29Speaker 2: what we've learned, to give fans a pretty clear course
- 13:33Speaker 2: of where this organization will go as far as direction.
- 13:37Speaker 2: But I thought something that was very important in what
- 13:39Speaker 2: she brought up, and this is where I separate fact
- 13:42Speaker 2: from fiction where Jason Botterrel is involved, and I think
- 13:46Speaker 2: this is where people have to really kind of give
- 13:47Speaker 2: their head to shake and understand what this is all
- 13:51Speaker 2: about when you do an audit. She mentioned that it
- 13:55Speaker 2: is performed by an outside entity. Jason Botterill the crack
- 13:59Speaker 2: and GM is stakeholder in this, and she mentioned this
- 14:02Speaker 2: as a former consultant. This is pretty much standard all
- 14:04Speaker 2: across the industry. So we're gonna find out more with
- 14:08Speaker 2: what happens and what course they'd taken about roughly three
- 14:12Speaker 2: four weeks, I thought Todd LEIWICKI opened the door to
- 14:15Speaker 2: really both extremes, if you will. But what was your
- 14:18Speaker 2: takeaway basically from the press conference here.
- 14:20Speaker 10: Today, Well, it's far of the audits concern. You know,
- 14:24Speaker 10: we live in a world of sound bites, and the
- 14:27Speaker 10: sound bite that was getting all the play is a
- 14:30Speaker 10: sound bite that was just that part of an answer,
- 14:32Speaker 10: part of you know, the context, and you know, I
- 14:35Speaker 10: know Todd kind of tried to clarify it later, but
- 14:37Speaker 10: the sound bite was we're filming an audit. This can
- 14:39Speaker 10: be overseen by Jason Bottom and you first hear that,
- 14:42Speaker 10: I just say, well, how can that be a quote
- 14:43Speaker 10: independent audit if it's overseen by the GM, you know,
- 14:47Speaker 10: And so I understand why fans were kind of like, what, like,
- 14:51Speaker 10: what's the definition of independent? I understand that again, we
- 14:54Speaker 10: live in a world of sound bites and you have
- 14:57Speaker 10: to understand the full context of everything. And then I
- 14:59Speaker 10: think he went clarified it. We had him on the
- 15:02Speaker 10: Krack and Auckey Network on Thursday and Alison asked him
- 15:04Speaker 10: about it. He was very clear and concise about how
- 15:07Speaker 10: it's going to operate, how you just described it and
- 15:08Speaker 10: laid it out, Mike, And so we move on. I
- 15:10Speaker 10: think the bigger question is what will come up? It
- 15:12Speaker 10: will will there be changes other than Ron Francis. You know,
- 15:16Speaker 10: are there other departments in the hockey operations world that
- 15:22Speaker 10: truly need to be looked at, changed sorted out? Do
- 15:27Speaker 10: they need to make moves in terms of who's doing what,
- 15:31Speaker 10: that's that's my who, the audit itself whatever. And I
- 15:36Speaker 10: you know, Alison lived in a far different world than
- 15:38Speaker 10: I ever lived in, and she was in that that
- 15:40Speaker 10: corporate world and understands that. So I'm going to lean
- 15:43Speaker 10: on her for that. But as far as I'm just considered,
- 15:46Speaker 10: what will the results bear?
- 15:47Speaker 9: What will we see when it's all said and done.
- 15:50Speaker 10: And and I'm not rooting for people to lose their jobs.
- 15:54Speaker 10: I'm not rooting for people to keep their jobs. What
- 15:57Speaker 10: I'm rooting for is I want to see the crack
- 16:00Speaker 10: can get better. So whatever it has to be that
- 16:03Speaker 10: they get it to become a better hockey team. And
- 16:06Speaker 10: I thought Mike Farrell in the scale times kind of
- 16:08Speaker 10: nailed it just to call him on Friday, like they've
- 16:11Speaker 10: done everything else right, Like they've done everything else right
- 16:15Speaker 10: in terms of the organization, except for the on ice
- 16:19Speaker 10: product has not been good enough.
- 16:21Speaker 9: Simple as that. And I'm not saying anything.
- 16:26Speaker 10: That Todd Lwicki hasn't set himself, So I.
- 16:28Speaker 9: Don't think i'm speaking at a turn.
- 16:30Speaker 10: And I think four years you've missed the playoffs out
- 16:34Speaker 10: of five years in existence. I think that speaks for itself.
- 16:39Speaker 10: So we'll see what it brings. Let's see what changes
- 16:41Speaker 10: it brings and what changes, frankly, are needed besides Ron
- 16:45Speaker 10: Francis departing at the end of the season.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Yeah, because the Crack can also have a stable of
- 16:50Speaker 2: draft picks, as Todd Liwiki mentioned plenty in the first
- 16:53Speaker 2: and the second round, depending upon if they really really
- 16:55Speaker 2: want to go one direction of opening the door here
- 16:58Speaker 2: for the young players or the other direction with maybe
- 17:01Speaker 2: packaging this here for a big move that could be
- 17:03Speaker 2: happening for this offseason to overturn the roster, maybe even
- 17:07Speaker 2: give the Cracking as well an upgrade for their top line.
- 17:11Speaker 2: That's been a big part of the discussion most recently.
- 17:14Speaker 2: But where my mind goes back here with this is
- 17:17Speaker 2: two pieces and I think they both revolve around Berkeley
- 17:21Speaker 2: Catton and matt Evanier's from Thursday night. Berkeley Catton was
- 17:25Speaker 2: trusted in the shootout, scored the eventual winner right before
- 17:31Speaker 2: joy to Cord close the door on Pavel Dora Fayev.
- 17:34Speaker 2: The shootout can be a bit of a roll the dice,
- 17:38Speaker 2: but at times it is also a demonstration of skill,
- 17:42Speaker 2: and we are seeing more confidence in Berkeley Catton and
- 17:45Speaker 2: more confidence in Lane Lambert to dispatch him in key situations.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Then the Matty Banier's goal as well, He's scored in
- 17:52Speaker 2: the shootout with the kind of move that he pulled,
- 17:56Speaker 2: the confidence he pulled it off with, and the bring
- 17:59Speaker 2: your crowd out of your seat result. Told me again
- 18:03Speaker 2: he has taken the right kind of strides to the
- 18:05Speaker 2: player that he wants to be. I think to me,
- 18:08Speaker 2: in my opinion, to see on a Cup contender is
- 18:12Speaker 2: where this looks good and that's not a bad thing.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I brought this analogy up back on Vancouver' sports Talk
- 18:18Speaker 2: radio the other morning, and you go back and remember
- 18:21Speaker 2: the Dallas Stars. Mike McDonnell is a one. See Joe
- 18:24Speaker 2: Newendyke as a two C. The Joe new and Dyke
- 18:27Speaker 2: thing is not a bad thing here for Matty Beniers.
- 18:29Speaker 2: So if you want to aggressively overturn the roster and
- 18:33Speaker 2: put then Ears in that kind of spot, you're fine
- 18:36Speaker 2: if you want to open the door for him, Berkeley,
- 18:38Speaker 2: Catton down the road, jacob'brien, there are marriage to that too.
- 18:42Speaker 3: But I think a.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Great opportunity here, at least before games left, to give
- 18:47Speaker 2: younger players some extra track to work with heading into
- 18:50Speaker 2: the summer.
- 18:51Speaker 9: What about you, Yeah, I would agree.
- 18:55Speaker 10: I mean, Maddy gets enough ice time, so that's a
- 18:57Speaker 10: no brainer. Berkeley, I think here's gone on has got
- 19:00Speaker 10: you know, I think we'd all like to see Berkeley
- 19:02Speaker 10: on you know, more power play time as opposed to
- 19:05Speaker 10: sometimes on the second Union units sometimes it's not Uh
- 19:09Speaker 10: you know what is Oscar Fisker Bullgard's role in the
- 19:11Speaker 10: final four games?
- 19:13Speaker 9: Uh?
- 19:13Speaker 10: You know Malonson Winchardton's like that. I thought it was
- 19:17Speaker 10: telling on Thursday that Ellie told it was out of
- 19:20Speaker 10: the lineup as the healthy.
- 19:21Speaker 9: Scratch and the pending free agent. That was interesting.
- 19:25Speaker 10: I may tell you what the plans are or non playing.
- 19:28Speaker 2: That's number two now in the last week, by the way,
- 19:30Speaker 2: for a penning uf A.
- 19:31Speaker 10: Right, thanks, yeah, and now and now Ellie, I thought
- 19:36Speaker 10: I thought the Linger and Scratch that might have just
- 19:38Speaker 10: been more of a no that the work that Josh
- 19:41Speaker 10: Herris put in as opposed to an indictment on Ryan Lindrin.
- 19:44Speaker 10: But uh yeah, I thought I thought Eli B and
- 19:47Speaker 10: Scratch was was a was a telling sign. But you know,
- 19:51Speaker 10: there's only so much you could do in terms of
- 19:52Speaker 10: young players, right, Like you know you've got exit the
- 19:55Speaker 10: Rock's response, but I think you know Fisker, I mean
- 19:59Speaker 10: they've got two rookies of the roster and Captain Pistor Bulguard.
- 20:02Speaker 10: I guess Mlanston as well, Right, so both guys should play,
- 20:05Speaker 10: but you know there already are for the most part,
- 20:07Speaker 10: Leslies Burkley is the Berkeley things interesting like I got
- 20:11Speaker 10: a head scratcher when you see the movie made, like
- 20:14Speaker 10: why was he not taking a shootout in the steps earlier?
- 20:17Speaker 10: Like like that's he's your most skilled player. Doesn't mean
- 20:22Speaker 10: he's the best shootout player by any means, but that
- 20:24Speaker 10: movie put on was sick. And then you look at
- 20:29Speaker 10: the shootout record before last before Thursday, they were one
- 20:31Speaker 10: and six. Well, let's just flip that around. What if
- 20:34Speaker 10: you were what if you were maybe you know, four
- 20:38Speaker 10: to three in the shootouts and had three more wins
- 20:41Speaker 10: six more points, Well, that kind of puts you in
- 20:43Speaker 10: a different situation, right, Like, so the shootout is something
- 20:47Speaker 10: you need to worry about, and you have a skilled
- 20:48Speaker 10: guy like Berkeley getting it, which is cool to see.
- 20:50Speaker 10: But the end of the day, yeah, I think you're
- 20:52Speaker 10: already kind of playing a lot of your young guys anyway,
- 20:55Speaker 10: But I could see maybe, you know, seventy eight, maybe
- 20:58Speaker 10: give him more of a role offscar Bulgard a lot
- 21:01Speaker 10: and more of a role. And obviously Berkeley, I'd just
- 21:05Speaker 10: like to see him on more of power play as
- 21:07Speaker 10: opposed to sometimes on PP two and sometimes.
- 21:09Speaker 2: On Finally, before we get into this next game in
- 21:13Speaker 2: our prep here for the four pm faceoff Calgary coming in.
- 21:16Speaker 2: They're five three and two and ten games and they're
- 21:19Speaker 2: already out of this playoff mix. They're going to be
- 21:21Speaker 2: a lottery team Ian. But yet I think this most
- 21:23Speaker 2: recent run says they're playing loose and they're playing with fun,
- 21:27Speaker 2: like they can be the LITLD spoiler here, But yet
- 21:29Speaker 2: I think facing the flames the one thing I go
- 21:32Speaker 2: back to here is this, we don't know who might
- 21:34Speaker 2: be suiting up yet as of this recording and net
- 21:36Speaker 2: Joey decord under evaluation.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Lane Lambert said so the other day.
- 21:40Speaker 2: So there's a pretty good possibility the Kraken could be
- 21:43Speaker 2: without any of their three goaltenders who were on this
- 21:47Speaker 2: roster on opening night and even up to about roughly
- 21:50Speaker 2: a week ago, come on down. Potentially nick A Koco
- 21:54Speaker 2: the only guy who took reps as well in practice,
- 21:57Speaker 2: so should he be in I'm really curious about the
- 21:59Speaker 2: game plan to play around him. Lane Lambert mentioned how
- 22:04Speaker 2: much he kind of, you know, was giving an extra
- 22:06Speaker 2: look to him as well and practice just in case
- 22:09Speaker 2: this happens here. But I think for me, depending upon
- 22:11Speaker 2: a jere McCann gets back in maintenance day for him,
- 22:14Speaker 2: what I'm looking for for period one is energy.
- 22:17Speaker 3: What's your biggest key here for this team out of
- 22:19Speaker 3: the game.
- 22:22Speaker 10: I think, well, Lane's always talked about consistency, So part
- 22:26Speaker 10: of that consistency would he consistent in the game that
- 22:30Speaker 10: you bring gaming game out? Can you bring third period
- 22:34Speaker 10: Thursday that the first period on Saturday, whether it be
- 22:38Speaker 10: you know, from an energy level or what have you.
- 22:41Speaker 10: I think the Goldking situation the games' seeings. We watched
- 22:45Speaker 10: when Joey went down and you know it was intended
- 22:49Speaker 10: to by the training staff. And then there's a time
- 22:51Speaker 10: out about a minute and a half later and he's
- 22:53Speaker 10: at the bench. He's talked to another medical team member
- 22:56Speaker 10: and you know, kind of stretching out the rest of
- 22:58Speaker 10: the game. He fine, but he didn't look a couple
- 23:01Speaker 10: of times like he was laboring a little bit to
- 23:03Speaker 10: get up. And you know, let's be honest, Like, you know,
- 23:07Speaker 10: you guys, you trust the medical people that are the experts.
- 23:09Speaker 10: And if if you can't do any further damage and
- 23:11Speaker 10: he can play through whatever, then he plays probably, But
- 23:14Speaker 10: if not, you're not playing for any like you don't
- 23:17Speaker 10: need to have.
- 23:18Speaker 9: Him get injured more.
- 23:21Speaker 10: Uh, you know, we don't know Groovy status and Matt
- 23:23Speaker 10: Murray's personal status. So like I honestly, at this point,
- 23:29Speaker 10: I'd like to see Coco play for Seattle.
- 23:31Speaker 9: I'd like to see him throwing it there.
- 23:33Speaker 10: What the hell? You know, I'd like to see him
- 23:36Speaker 10: play go in there, see he can do kid have
- 23:38Speaker 10: some fun. You know, we had to shut out what
- 23:40Speaker 10: a week and a half ago in the HL played
- 23:42Speaker 10: well there this year.
- 23:43Speaker 9: Go see what this kid can do.
- 23:45Speaker 2: And this is why we're all about telling a good story.
- 23:48Speaker 2: This could be a good story as well. Coming up
- 23:50Speaker 2: for four pm. Mayor Hey, keep it fresh, keep it real,
- 23:54Speaker 2: keep it hot as well. Appreciate your time. Thanks Bud
- 23:57Speaker 2: always my friend.
- 23:58Speaker 10: Thanks Captain, will talk to you soon. We'll see it
- 24:00Speaker 10: at the game tonight.
- 24:01Speaker 3: All right, thanks Ian. That's Ian Fornaz joining us once again.
- 24:04Speaker 3: He'll be on the.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Desk with the rest at three point thirty on the
- 24:07Speaker 2: KRACK and Hockey Network side to recap Crack and line
- 24:10Speaker 2: up updates. The KRACK and missing Jared McCann in practice
- 24:14Speaker 2: on Thursday.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Due to a maintenance day.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Joey Decord being evaluated officially, his status here for the
- 24:20Speaker 2: game today undetermined as of this recording. Philip Grubauer day
- 24:25Speaker 2: to day, also with a lower body injury. Matt Murray
- 24:28Speaker 2: still away from the team due to a family matter
- 24:31Speaker 2: necessitating the recall of Nick Coco from AHL Coachella Valley.
- 24:36Speaker 2: We'll get you more updates here by the time that
- 24:39Speaker 2: we get on the air at three thirty. Calgary coming
- 24:42Speaker 2: in off a three to one defeed too. The Colorado
- 24:45Speaker 2: Avalanche back on Thursday night, Tyson gross part of the
- 24:48Speaker 2: only Calgary goal in the game, but also impressive in
- 24:52Speaker 2: the face off circle, winning eight of ten draws in
- 24:54Speaker 2: that contest.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Guess soon, Nathan McKinnon.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Lad the way for Colorado with a three point nine
- 24:59Speaker 2: all so, matched by him by Martin Natius. With Colorado
- 25:03Speaker 2: already clinching the President's Trophy for top record in the
- 25:08Speaker 2: entire NHL, they'll be guaranteed homiice advantage for as long
- 25:12Speaker 2: as they are in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nonetheless, the
- 25:15Speaker 2: Flames are showing that they can't be overlooked. They are
- 25:18Speaker 2: five to three to two in the last ten games.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Matt Coronado was their top scorer with forty two points,
- 25:24Speaker 2: Morgan Frost pacing them right now with twenty one goals plus.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Calgary also led by a former PNW local in net
- 25:32Speaker 2: Dustin Bolt, the former Everett's Silver Tip, recently signing a
- 25:35Speaker 2: seven year contract extension. Finding this season a bit hard
- 25:38Speaker 2: to come by with matching last year's Calder Trophy rookie
- 25:42Speaker 2: finalist performance, He's right now under a nine to zeroo
- 25:46Speaker 2: say percentage with a twenty two to twenty eight and
- 25:49Speaker 2: three record. The Flames also without Jonathan Huberdo and Samuel
- 25:53Speaker 2: Honzik for the remainder of the regular season. Lake Coleman
- 25:56Speaker 2: missing Thursday's game for the birth of his son. He
- 25:59Speaker 2: returned to his hometown of Dallas. Ryan Strom also missing
- 26:03Speaker 2: Thursday's game due to illness. His status undetermined ahead of
- 26:08Speaker 2: the four pm faceoff. This will be the third and
- 26:10Speaker 2: final matchup between the two teams. As a crack and
- 26:13Speaker 2: looking to take two out of three. Last time they
- 26:16Speaker 2: squared off the only trip into Calgary, the Kraken cruising
- 26:20Speaker 2: five to one over the Flames, and we'll have all
- 26:22Speaker 2: the action for you beginning a little after four pm
- 26:25Speaker 2: Pacific time. Airtime coverage at three point thirty. I'll be
- 26:29Speaker 2: joined by Al Koniski and of course you for postgame
- 26:32Speaker 2: reaction right across the street at Tom's watch Bar.
- 26:35Speaker 3: We certainly hope that you can join us. Big thank
- 26:37Speaker 3: you again to.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Berkeley, Catton and Ian Forness, for hanging out with us,
- 26:41Speaker 2: and for kracking this morning.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I'm Mike Benton, enjoyed the game. You're home for the Kraken.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM
