Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: You know a j The Brewers do have a back
- 0:11Speaker 1: to back champ for Manager of the Year but also
- 0:14Speaker 1: for Executive of the Year. And you're sitting next to
- 0:16Speaker 1: the great Matt Arnold right now.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I know.
- 0:18Speaker 3: That's what I was gonna get on about. I didn't
- 0:20Speaker 3: even know that he won those awards until I pulled
- 0:22Speaker 3: up his wiki page. So I thought that he'd be
- 0:24Speaker 3: like Murph, carrying the awards around with him everywhere. But
- 0:26Speaker 3: he doesn't even have a quarter zip on, so how
- 0:28Speaker 3: can we expect him to to win a third one?
- 0:32Speaker 4: It's tough, man, I mean, if you got is that
- 0:33Speaker 4: the quarter you gotta wear the quarters if to get
- 0:35Speaker 4: an award, I don't know you to be a GM
- 0:37Speaker 4: you have Oh yeah, I got plenty of I got
- 0:39Speaker 4: a bunch of those.
- 0:41Speaker 5: I got plenty of those. It's a little warmer today.
- 0:43Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 0:43Speaker 4: I was trying to go with something a little thinner,
- 0:45Speaker 4: but I don't sporty. Yeah, a little sporty. I'm I'm
- 0:48Speaker 4: not sporty. No, I mean that's not I'm not an athlete. No,
- 0:52Speaker 4: I try.
- 0:53Speaker 2: But the best shape of your life.
- 0:56Speaker 4: I know, coming to most people coming to camp in
- 0:58Speaker 4: the best airline I'm probably in the worst my life. No,
- 1:00Speaker 4: I'm doing all right. Well, yeah, we play a little
- 1:02Speaker 4: pickleball with the guys and staff coaches for front office.
- 1:07Speaker 4: I call like our front office group is kind of
- 1:09Speaker 4: the G League a little bit like when we play
- 1:11Speaker 4: together and then we get the coaches involved, and that's
- 1:13Speaker 4: that's the NBA.
- 1:14Speaker 5: So we have those guys are really good.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Who's the best, oh Man, probably somewhere between Matt Erickson
- 1:20Speaker 4: and Jason Lane. Those guys are. Those guys are both exceptional.
- 1:23Speaker 4: So and I love playing with him. To keep you humble,
- 1:25Speaker 4: Layer's really good, Lefty with some with thunder, It's it's good.
- 1:31Speaker 5: He's really good.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Are you a blue bit over the net guy or
- 1:34Speaker 2: you I.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Got a little I got a little hammer. But it's uh,
- 1:37Speaker 4: it's a it's a it's a mixed bag. I just,
- 1:40Speaker 4: you know, I'm not consistent enough. Like, those guys are
- 1:42Speaker 4: really good, and I just love to play. It's like
- 1:44Speaker 4: whiffle ball, you know, It's just so much fun and
- 1:47Speaker 4: it's it's it's way better than being on a treadmill,
- 1:50Speaker 4: you know, So I love it.
- 1:53Speaker 6: Murph calls you guys the Ivory Tower. Is that a?
- 1:57Speaker 7: Is that a derogative term that you prefer not to use.
- 2:01Speaker 7: Or is your pickleball name the Ivory Tower.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I don't have any pickleball name. Uh, but no, I
- 2:10Speaker 4: I don't look I mean, I I think it's uh Murph.
- 2:15Speaker 4: Murphy has all kinds of nicknames for everybody, and usually
- 2:17Speaker 4: they have a double meaning, so that can be fun
- 2:20Speaker 4: depending on what he's he's saying, and maybe there's an
- 2:23Speaker 4: underlying meaning to to to things. But no, he's he's
- 2:26Speaker 4: got nicknames for all of us. Man, and he comes
- 2:28Speaker 4: at you and and he he wants to keep you humble.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I think that's the most important thing with with Murph
- 2:32Speaker 4: is uh coming to work every day, working hard, being
- 2:36Speaker 4: about the team, you know, and all the great things
- 2:38Speaker 4: that he brings. And I love working with him.
- 2:40Speaker 3: By the way, is that why you weren't at his
- 2:42Speaker 3: award when he got his second manager? Were you too
- 2:45Speaker 3: busy a playing pickleball or be accepting your award?
- 2:49Speaker 5: Okay, none of that.
- 2:50Speaker 4: So last year, if you remember the year before, I
- 2:52Speaker 4: I gave the speech to it to announce his award.
- 2:55Speaker 4: This year, this year we had we had all those
- 2:58Speaker 4: cancelations with the weather, so like all of our flights
- 3:00Speaker 4: got canceled going to New York. I mean they canceled
- 3:03Speaker 4: all of our flights going going in and out of
- 3:05Speaker 4: New York.
- 3:06Speaker 5: It was a mess.
- 3:07Speaker 4: I'm not going that good man. We got to come
- 3:09Speaker 4: on a few more games to get there, but that
- 3:12Speaker 4: was okay.
- 3:13Speaker 5: We had a good year.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You didn't want to my speech. Is that what happened?
- 3:15Speaker 5: I would love to hear your speech always. Yeah, okay,
- 3:18Speaker 5: I would always.
- 3:20Speaker 4: I tried to had flights booked and everything. We were
- 3:22Speaker 4: going to go, but we didn't.
- 3:23Speaker 5: Uh it.
- 3:24Speaker 3: We need to call mister Antonosio and figure out the
- 3:27Speaker 3: PJ situation.
- 3:28Speaker 5: Uh, you can make that phone call on.
- 3:32Speaker 1: The show was streaming on Foul Territory Lives, so he
- 3:34Speaker 1: was able to catch it. There, no big deal.
- 3:37Speaker 5: He wasn't matched.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Yeah, so there you go. We provided the live stream
- 3:41Speaker 1: question for you just because AJ mentioned and joked about it.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever asked front office exact this.
- 3:47Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on best shape of his life?
- 3:50Speaker 1: When you hear that, when you see that in an article,
- 3:52Speaker 1: what does it mean to you? And how often does
- 3:54Speaker 1: that actually mean anything? In the grand scheme? Obviously, you
- 3:57Speaker 1: want your players to be in shape, but best shape
- 3:59Speaker 1: of your life first couple of weeks of camp seems
- 4:01Speaker 1: to be kind of a running joke these days.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, it's funny. Like I think back in the day,
- 4:06Speaker 4: you heard it all the time. You know, guys would
- 4:07Speaker 4: come in and say, I'm in the best shape of
- 4:09Speaker 4: my life. I think now we can actually measure a
- 4:12Speaker 4: little bit more of that, and so guys are guys
- 4:13Speaker 4: are coming in with intake and the physical process, and
- 4:16Speaker 4: so you can kind of get a better sense of
- 4:18Speaker 4: what that looks like from guys coming in. So if
- 4:21Speaker 4: they're if they say they're in the best shape of life,
- 4:23Speaker 4: you can actually tell if they are, because we try
- 4:25Speaker 4: to get baselines on guys coming in and out of camp.
- 4:27Speaker 4: But you know, I'm certainly not at that point that
- 4:34Speaker 4: nobody wants to see.
- 4:35Speaker 3: That is your intake. You get on the scale with
- 4:37Speaker 3: the little handles. It gives you your body mask.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Wygo, you know, a little marbled meat. I don't know
- 4:42Speaker 4: if it's not. You don't want front office. You don't
- 4:45Speaker 4: want the most delicious delicious.
- 4:47Speaker 2: And it is the most expensive.
- 4:49Speaker 5: That's right.
- 4:50Speaker 3: You guys had an interesting offseason and you're you're in
- 4:53Speaker 3: charge of what happens. How hard is it to trade
- 4:56Speaker 3: a Freddy Peralta, How hard is it to trade Durbin?
- 4:59Speaker 3: How hard are the he's moved to Megan? And how
- 5:02Speaker 3: far in front of things do you have to stay
- 5:04Speaker 3: as the Milwaukee Brewers to win ninety seven games again
- 5:08Speaker 3: like you guys did last year?
- 5:09Speaker 5: Yeah? Really tough.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I mean, you move guys like that that mean a
- 5:12Speaker 4: lot to the franchise, mean a lot to the room.
- 5:14Speaker 4: You know, don't take that lightly at all. We've had
- 5:16Speaker 4: to do this for a number of years here with
- 5:18Speaker 4: Devin Williams and Corbyn Burns, Josh Hater, etcetera. Like those
- 5:21Speaker 4: are really hard, hard on the franchise. And I think,
- 5:24Speaker 4: you know, we have a great support group. I think
- 5:27Speaker 4: around to try to insulate ourselves with good coaches and
- 5:30Speaker 4: good you know, obviously good character guys that we have
- 5:33Speaker 4: in the room. And I think a lot of times
- 5:34Speaker 4: when you make those kind of moves, it's also saying
- 5:36Speaker 4: we want to bet on the people that are still here.
- 5:39Speaker 4: You know, it's not anything against the people that are leaving,
- 5:42Speaker 4: but we really want to do what we can to
- 5:43Speaker 4: bet on the people in the room and then also
- 5:45Speaker 4: bring in talent to help us win now and tomorrow,
- 5:48Speaker 4: you know, And that's always the balance that we're trying
- 5:49Speaker 4: to to. We're trying to walk that line every single
- 5:52Speaker 4: day here with the Brewers.
- 5:54Speaker 7: When I look at when I looked at the team
- 5:56Speaker 7: going into about three weeks ago, I said, this was
- 6:01Speaker 7: the year that since twenty eighteen when I was there,
- 6:04Speaker 7: it's like this team is always there, always there, always there.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Do you guys look when you do your projections and
- 6:11Speaker 7: say what would it mean to this team and could
- 6:14Speaker 7: we be a World Series champion if we were to
- 6:17Speaker 7: add a Trek schoobl if we were to add a
- 6:19Speaker 7: one year piece instead of losing the one year piece.
- 6:23Speaker 7: Do you guys make those projections and say no, it'll
- 6:26Speaker 7: never happen, or you just say no, we're not going
- 6:28Speaker 7: to waste our time with an exercise like that that
- 6:31Speaker 7: could put us back three or four years.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Krasy, I think that's a great question.
- 6:36Speaker 4: I mean we've done that in a lot of cases.
- 6:38Speaker 4: I mean going back to Yasmani Grendal and even this
- 6:40Speaker 4: year of bringing back somebody like Brandon Woodruff as the
- 6:44Speaker 4: highest aav of any pitcher that we've ever had in
- 6:47Speaker 4: this franchise. You know, I mean to have the support
- 6:49Speaker 4: from our ownership to bring back somebody like what do
- 6:52Speaker 4: you mean so much to our franchise and our room
- 6:54Speaker 4: and the huge games that he's pitched in that really
- 6:57Speaker 4: means a lot, you know. So we have gone out,
- 6:59Speaker 4: Mike Mustak. We we've bringing brought in a number of
- 7:02Speaker 4: those types of guys. We just can't do it all
- 7:03Speaker 4: the time, but we've had great support to do so
- 7:05Speaker 4: over the years, and and you know, when the time
- 7:07Speaker 4: is right, you know, we felt like the time was
- 7:09Speaker 4: right with with Brandon Woodruff and we're we couldn't be
- 7:11Speaker 4: more thrilled to have Woody back in our in our
- 7:13Speaker 4: mix here.
- 7:14Speaker 3: By the way, krats as bad at you. Why because
- 7:17Speaker 3: when you brought Grandell and you had to fire him.
- 7:19Speaker 3: So he oh he still has yeah, still has feelings
- 7:23Speaker 3: for that.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Oh no, I still love you, Cratsy. I mean, come on, man,
- 7:26Speaker 4: come on, we loved having you here, so you're always welcome.
- 7:29Speaker 6: Not enough, not enough. I could have been there, We
- 7:32Speaker 6: could have been somebody.
- 7:34Speaker 5: Here we go. We were somebody. A great run man,
- 7:36Speaker 5: you get hey.
- 7:37Speaker 7: Huge in nineteen. I'll never forget. I'll never forget. It's
- 7:41Speaker 7: totally off topic. We've talked about grand All. When they
- 7:44Speaker 7: brought grand All in it's spring training. I was walking
- 7:47Speaker 7: by it counts, goes Craig. Council goes, well, you know what,
- 7:52Speaker 7: the catcher has to bat four times a game too,
- 7:55Speaker 7: so I feel like this is a good upgrade.
- 7:57Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, well, the catcher doesn't have
- 8:05Speaker 3: a bad four times. They can get pinch it for
- 8:07Speaker 3: their second at bat, maybe cratzy, depending on how the
- 8:10Speaker 3: game's going. I don't know what that was like for
- 8:13Speaker 3: a lot of my time, but I used to have
- 8:15Speaker 3: to be the guy would have to pinch it for
- 8:17Speaker 3: the other guy.
- 8:18Speaker 7: Yep, seventh thinning, you're gone. You had too bad at batch,
- 8:22Speaker 7: You're out of the game.
- 8:22Speaker 1: To say you, Hey, Matt, I have a question for you.
- 8:27Speaker 1: We had the you know on and off because the
- 8:30Speaker 1: reporters are good at getting as much info as possible.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Conversations with are they going to trade Freddie p or not?
- 8:37Speaker 1: So what is that communication like with you and Freddie
- 8:41Speaker 1: and with the agent where it's like, I think you're good,
- 8:45Speaker 1: maybe not. Things are picking up again because I'm sure
- 8:48Speaker 1: you don't want to just constantly be making phone calls.
- 8:50Speaker 1: But Also, this is the guy who has earned respective
- 8:53Speaker 1: the org been there for a while, and you want
- 8:54Speaker 1: to be as communicative as possible, especially as you get
- 8:57Speaker 1: closer to spring training and he's gonna suddenly be in
- 9:00Speaker 1: Florida instead of Arizona.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Yeah, no question. Freddie and I had a great relationship.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I've known him since he was nineteen eighteen years old
- 9:09Speaker 4: when we first got him, and always tried to keep
- 9:12Speaker 4: the line of communications open with him and his agent,
- 9:15Speaker 4: Seth Lovinson, and so we have really good relationships with
- 9:18Speaker 4: those guys. Tried to be very open and honest, and
- 9:20Speaker 4: it was a two way street, you know, just making
- 9:22Speaker 4: sure we're on the same page and what's going on,
- 9:24Speaker 4: what's happening, and trying to make sure that we kept
- 9:26Speaker 4: him in the loop. I think the worst thing to
- 9:28Speaker 4: do is surprise people on these types of things, and
- 9:31Speaker 4: just having those conversations, being open and honest with your guys.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Having that kind of culture here something that really really
- 9:36Speaker 4: matters to me certainly. And I love Freddy to death.
- 9:39Speaker 4: I was talking to David Stearns yesterday about him, and
- 9:41Speaker 4: it sounds like he's doing great over there, and I'm
- 9:43Speaker 4: a huge Freddie Perulta fan. I hope he has a
- 9:44Speaker 4: great season, a great career, nothing but the best. Wish
- 9:48Speaker 4: nothing about the best for Freddy.
- 9:52Speaker 1: New sponsor alert shout out to seat Geek over thirty
- 9:55Speaker 1: five million downloads, the number one rated ticketing app. It
- 9:59Speaker 1: is that time of year and you can see the
- 10:00Speaker 1: code at the bottom. We'd love some support there. Spring
- 10:04Speaker 1: training you have World Baseball Classic around the corner, so
- 10:07Speaker 1: if you want to look for tickets, seakeeek is the spot.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But just for example, today's Monday, right, and spring training
- 10:13Speaker 1: game started a few days ago. Aj, I'm looking at
- 10:16Speaker 1: Tuesday since many people will catch this show after the
- 10:19Speaker 1: games have already started on Monday. But we have Ranger
- 10:23Speaker 1: Suarez making his debut down in Fort Myers for the
- 10:27Speaker 1: Red Sox on Tuesday. I see Showa Inmanaga making his
- 10:32Speaker 1: spring training debut for the Cubbies out in Arizona, Andrew
- 10:35Speaker 1: Abbott for the Reds. Actually, Angel Serpa too is going
- 10:39Speaker 1: to start for the Brewers on Tuesday. He was in
- 10:42Speaker 1: their mind a pretty big acquisition coming over from the Royals.
- 10:45Speaker 1: He's always had good stuff. Gavin Stone against Gavin Williams
- 10:48Speaker 1: with the Guardians and the Dodgers George Kirby is starting
- 10:51Speaker 1: his first spring trading outing for the Mariners. So there
- 10:55Speaker 1: are some good spots to look at to grab some tickets.
- 10:58Speaker 3: There there are, and this is the time to go
- 11:00Speaker 3: if you want to get players up close and personal,
- 11:03Speaker 3: if you want a chance for an autograph, Now is
- 11:05Speaker 3: the time in spring training because everyone's just more relaxed,
- 11:09Speaker 3: and the weather's great here in Arizona. So if you
- 11:14Speaker 3: want to come out and just get some sunshine, if
- 11:17Speaker 3: you're stuck in I think Mark just said you guys
- 11:19Speaker 3: up in north you got two feet of snow, Like,
- 11:21Speaker 3: come on down to Florida. Don't stay too long, but
- 11:24Speaker 3: come on down for spring training. Get your tickets there
- 11:27Speaker 3: and come watch a beautiful game in the Cactus League
- 11:30Speaker 3: or the Great Full League.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Thanks to seakeek, Yeah, they've got your bag. Each ticket
- 11:35Speaker 1: is rated on a scale of one to ten. You
- 11:36Speaker 1: know you're getting a good deal there if you look
- 11:38Speaker 1: for the green dots. Green is good, red is bad.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Not complicated, And of course we have a code for
- 11:43Speaker 1: you guys. You can use code Territory ten for ten
- 11:45Speaker 1: percent off your next set of tickets at Seakeek. That's
- 11:48Speaker 1: ten percent off any tickets it doesn't have to just
- 11:50Speaker 1: be sports, concerts, festival, the whole deal. Promo code Territory
- 11:55Speaker 1: one zero. Make sure you click the link in the
- 11:57Speaker 1: description to download the app and have the code automatically
- 11:59Speaker 1: added to your accounts so you could use it later.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Thank you to seek Geek.
- 12:03Speaker 7: I think when gms say that sometimes I feel like
- 12:05Speaker 7: it's eye wash with Matt Arnold, with David Stearns before you.
- 12:10Speaker 7: It's not eye wash. It's actually honest. The communication is
- 12:14Speaker 7: there and you guys care about the communication. But my
- 12:16Speaker 7: question is on Freddie p Corbyn, Burns, Josh Hater and
- 12:22Speaker 7: Devin Williams, which one was the toughest communication because of
- 12:27Speaker 7: anything that happened, because of how it was going with
- 12:31Speaker 7: not necessarily like oh man, you know, it's a tough
- 12:33Speaker 7: relationship and each relationship is unique. But of those the
- 12:37Speaker 7: big guys that have been traded recently, which one was
- 12:40Speaker 7: the toughest to communicate too in the sense of like,
- 12:44Speaker 7: you know, ah, man, like got close to this guy.
- 12:47Speaker 7: This was at the beginning of my tenure. You were
- 12:48Speaker 7: assistant GM during a couple during one of those trades.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, I mean I think it's a good question.
- 12:55Speaker 4: I think they're all they're all different, they're all challenging
- 12:58Speaker 4: in their own ways. I think probably the hater one
- 13:00Speaker 4: just because it happened in season. You know, the others
- 13:02Speaker 4: were were more in the off season. And when you
- 13:05Speaker 4: do something like that with your closer in season, I
- 13:08Speaker 4: totally understand, you know, the ramifications around that and how
- 13:11Speaker 4: challenging that can be to digest for everyone, for our fans,
- 13:15Speaker 4: for our clubhouse, for our front office, like everybody. I
- 13:17Speaker 4: think that's those are certainly challenging, But you know, you're
- 13:20Speaker 4: able to zoom out a little bit and sort of
- 13:22Speaker 4: understand what that what that pain looks like. And fast forward.
- 13:26Speaker 4: Now you have somebody like like William Petreras in the
- 13:28Speaker 4: in the clubhouse, you know, and and couldn't be more
- 13:30Speaker 4: thrilled to have that guy. He's been a warrior for
- 13:32Speaker 4: us for a lot of years. And so again it's
- 13:34Speaker 4: just the finding that right balance. But the you know,
- 13:37Speaker 4: going through those processes, especially in season, are certainly challenging.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Hey, Matt, why do some of the trades take so
- 13:44Speaker 1: damn long? This is the question from fans. Sometimes they're
- 13:47Speaker 1: like it finally happens in late January, or even we
- 13:50Speaker 1: just saw the Durbin deal in February. Do you think
- 13:53Speaker 1: a lot of it has to do with other moves
- 13:55Speaker 1: like free agents finding a home and then teams jump
- 13:59Speaker 1: back into the trade well, or is it, Hey, we
- 14:02Speaker 1: have a conversation with some teams, feel like we want
- 14:05Speaker 1: this next tier prospect that we're looking for, and finally
- 14:08Speaker 1: it comes around at that point, Like, what do you
- 14:11Speaker 1: think is one of the biggest reasons why the stall
- 14:14Speaker 1: happens from November December up until close to spring training.
- 14:18Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a good question.
- 14:19Speaker 4: I mean, some of it's probably just deadlines, right, Like
- 14:21Speaker 4: deadlines are powerful in this game, and so when you
- 14:24Speaker 4: have team you know, moments where you're about to report
- 14:27Speaker 4: to camp, or you're you're about to start the season,
- 14:29Speaker 4: or there's a trade deadline like those, those deadlines are
- 14:31Speaker 4: impactful to speed up conversations, you know. But but ultimately
- 14:36Speaker 4: you know they're they're all different and unique, and you're
- 14:38Speaker 4: always one phone call away. You know, you can feel
- 14:40Speaker 4: like you're far apart, and then you know one phone
- 14:43Speaker 4: call can change that, you know, And then so you're
- 14:45Speaker 4: layering in that conversation you're having with the other team,
- 14:47Speaker 4: but then at the same time you're also talking to
- 14:49Speaker 4: the rest of the market and seeing what happens and
- 14:51Speaker 4: things can emerge. Maybe there's an injury, or there's a
- 14:54Speaker 4: situation where somebody else makes a trade and there's a
- 14:56Speaker 4: need there and somebody else emerges that was that was
- 14:59Speaker 4: in the mix that you didn't an dipate, And you
- 15:00Speaker 4: just want to be thorough, you know, And so I
- 15:02Speaker 4: don't know if we you know, you don't want to
- 15:04Speaker 4: miss out on anything and move too fast, but you
- 15:06Speaker 4: want to miss you know, move too slow and also
- 15:08Speaker 4: miss out on something either. So it's just trying to
- 15:10Speaker 4: find that right balance and and do what's best really
- 15:12Speaker 4: for both sides.
- 15:13Speaker 5: You know. I think when you you make.
- 15:14Speaker 4: A trade, whether it's a Durban trade or a Freddi
- 15:17Speaker 4: Peerult trade, like hopefully works out for both sides.
- 15:19Speaker 5: You know.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I think that's they're getting good players, you know. There's
- 15:21Speaker 4: when you're getting a guy like Caleb Durban, who meant
- 15:23Speaker 4: a lot to our franchise. The Red Sox are getting
- 15:25Speaker 4: a really good play there, and we hope we are
- 15:27Speaker 4: as well, you know, with with Harrison and Johann and Hamilton,
- 15:31Speaker 4: Like we're really happy with those guys. And again, I
- 15:33Speaker 4: just hope when you're making good deals with with teams
- 15:36Speaker 4: that works out for both sides.
- 15:38Speaker 2: We had price on.
- 15:39Speaker 3: We already talked to Bryce, We've already talked to sal
- 15:41Speaker 3: We've already talked to miss.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Any extensions in the.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Future, always open, Yeah, I mean you well, I mean
- 15:49Speaker 4: it's a two way street. I mean we can reach
- 15:51Speaker 4: out for sure. I mean, let's we can go on
- 15:53Speaker 4: a little walk and talk. I'm an agent, that's up
- 15:58Speaker 4: to you, that's coming from them, So you can negotiate
- 16:00Speaker 4: that one if you want. But no, we we love
- 16:03Speaker 4: those guys and and uh obviously we've done that with
- 16:06Speaker 4: a number of players here, and certainly always open to
- 16:08Speaker 4: having those kind of conversations.
- 16:09Speaker 5: Okay, I mean always open to having the coma.
- 16:13Speaker 3: That's fine, that's fine, that's GM speak one on one
- 16:15Speaker 3: right there. Last thing for the Rays. You were a
- 16:19Speaker 3: raised guy. You have Sterns you mentioned was a raised guy.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Freedman was a raised guy. Brandon Gomes and the Dodgers
- 16:25Speaker 3: was a raised pitcher. What do the Rays do because
- 16:27Speaker 3: there's they're just raised people. Him Bloom is a raised guy.
- 16:31Speaker 3: They are just spread out throughout the league.
- 16:33Speaker 2: What are the Rays do? Because every team wants to
- 16:35Speaker 2: be the race.
- 16:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 4: I mean, look, it's it's had a lot of really
- 16:39Speaker 4: good people, you know, And I think it starts with people.
- 16:41Speaker 4: That's that's the thing we've tried to do here more
- 16:43Speaker 4: than anything else. It's it's just have good people, whether
- 16:46Speaker 4: that's in the clubhouse or the front office. And I
- 16:47Speaker 4: think like just partnering with guys like Eric Neander and
- 16:50Speaker 4: him and James and Andrew and Matt Silverman and so
- 16:54Speaker 4: many people there that I was fortunate to partner with
- 16:56Speaker 4: for for many years really helped me get better. And
- 16:59Speaker 4: I think we were able to challenge each other and
- 17:01Speaker 4: and and learn from each other. We all had kind
- 17:03Speaker 4: of different strengths and weaknesses. And a partner with those guys,
- 17:07Speaker 4: you know, I consider them some of my best friends,
- 17:09Speaker 4: you know, And I really care about him and I
- 17:11Speaker 4: really enjoyed partnering with him.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Does make it easier to make trades when you worked
- 17:13Speaker 2: with them.
- 17:14Speaker 4: All sometimes you know, and sometimes they you know, they'll uh,
- 17:17Speaker 4: they know they know how you you negotiate sometimes because
- 17:20Speaker 4: and we know how they negotiate, and so you can
- 17:22Speaker 4: kind of figure out quickly, but you can get right
- 17:24Speaker 4: to it and the conversations are obviously really natural with
- 17:27Speaker 4: those types of guys, so they're they're great to work.
- 17:29Speaker 2: So it was Freedman like the godfather of all of you.
- 17:31Speaker 4: It's kinda I mean, I don't know. I don't don't
- 17:34Speaker 4: tell him that, but well we had him on the
- 17:36Speaker 4: other day, so clear. Yeah, he's great. Yeah, he's he's
- 17:39Speaker 4: kind of graduated in the clouds now and he's like
- 17:41Speaker 4: doing stuff for the Lakers, and I don't know, he
- 17:44Speaker 4: didn't come to media day, like I don't know, he's
- 17:46Speaker 4: he's a little big, don't know, he's changed a little bit. Yeah,
- 17:49Speaker 4: I've shared this with him. This is not Yeah, when
- 17:51Speaker 4: you win World Series.
- 17:53Speaker 5: I get it. Yeah, I get it us.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Plus I'm not bringing up the series with you all
- 17:56Speaker 2: last year, so we'll just skip that. He has a
- 17:58Speaker 2: little bit of uh.
- 17:59Speaker 5: Sure clout right now a little bit. Yeah, he does,
- 18:01Speaker 5: wait and well deserved. He's great. He's really.
- 18:03Speaker 1: It's good one nerdy stack craction because that's what I
- 18:06Speaker 1: do here. I don't think Stearns was in the raised tree.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I mean, obviously you guys know each other, but no,
- 18:12Speaker 1: no work there, right, So yeah, my.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Partnered partnered here uh in Milwaukee for the first time
- 18:19Speaker 4: and he's great. I mean, he's as good as it gets.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Man.
- 18:21Speaker 4: You talk about eight plus people and like always super
- 18:24Speaker 4: well prepared, just the best in the business. I really
- 18:26Speaker 4: really love working with David.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Well Matt awesome to catch up with you. Really appreciate
- 18:32Speaker 1: the time. Thank you for joining us. Good luck this season.
- 18:35Speaker 5: Thank you guys, appreciate you having me.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Were season previewing the Milwaukee Brewers. They won the most
- 18:46Speaker 1: games in Major League Baseball last year. We're going to
- 18:49Speaker 1: go through a roller coaster right now, are you ready.
- 18:51Speaker 1: We're going to do additions and subtractions, but we're going
- 18:53Speaker 1: to keep reminding everyone how good this team was last year.
- 18:56Speaker 1: They are going to be missing significant pieces. So let's
- 19:00Speaker 1: look at the fact that Freddy peralta top of the
- 19:03Speaker 1: rotation out of the mix right side first, Okay, Caleb Durgan,
- 19:07Speaker 1: Durbin moving on to the Red Sox, Mears and Collins
- 19:11Speaker 1: in that Royals deal. Also Monasterio in the deal with
- 19:15Speaker 1: Durban and Rhys Hoskins ends up signing with the Guardians.
- 19:18Speaker 1: On the left side of the screen. They do add arms.
- 19:20Speaker 1: They like Kyle Harrison a lot. You'll hear from him
- 19:23Speaker 1: later on the show. Angel Zerpa. They like him a
- 19:25Speaker 1: lot as well. Gary Sanchez is back, Luis ran Hifo
- 19:27Speaker 1: to play all over the diamond. So Kratz, you're a
- 19:31Speaker 1: former Brewer. I feel like we go over this every year.
- 19:35Speaker 1: They do not get a lot of hype from projections.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I don't think they get a lot of hype from media.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I don't think they get a lot of hype from odds.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Bet MGM has them at eighty four and a half wins.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Fangrafts has them at eighty two wins. You pointed something
- 19:56Speaker 1: out to me today. I think it was you. Actually, no,
- 19:58Speaker 1: it was producer Lady. The Pittsburgh Pirates are projected for
- 20:02Speaker 1: one more win than the Milwaukee Brewers in twenty twenty six.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Is that possible or a disaster prediction by Fangrafts.
- 20:13Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean anything's possible. But to me, it's about
- 20:18Speaker 7: did the Brewers overplay? Were they not seventy nine wins
- 20:25Speaker 7: good last year?
- 20:27Speaker 8: No?
- 20:27Speaker 6: They were.
- 20:28Speaker 7: They figured out how to win games. I don't buy
- 20:32Speaker 7: into the buy into the playoff teams, regular season teams,
- 20:38Speaker 7: all that stuff. As much as you know we talk
- 20:41Speaker 7: about it, I think they figure out how to win games.
- 20:44Speaker 7: I think they figure out how to play as much
- 20:48Speaker 7: as you can in this game without an ego. And
- 20:51Speaker 7: I don't think the Pirates are better than them because
- 20:54Speaker 7: of the experience that they are returning, because of the
- 20:58Speaker 7: fact that I don't know what Connor Griffin's gonna be
- 21:03Speaker 7: cam Paul Schemes. You know, are they gonna score enough
- 21:06Speaker 7: runs for Paul Schemes to have another cy young year?
- 21:08Speaker 7: Well he didn't need it last year, So does it
- 21:11Speaker 7: automatically give them more wins? I think the Brewers are
- 21:13Speaker 7: a better team than the Pirates, but I don't think
- 21:17Speaker 7: they are much better than what the projections are. I
- 21:19Speaker 7: think they could be, they could be a little bit
- 21:22Speaker 7: above five hundred, and I think it's a little short
- 21:25Speaker 7: of the playoffs where where they could be because of
- 21:28Speaker 7: what Freddy Peralta brought to this rotation and to the bullpen, I.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Think that, uh, I think they're I think they're gonna
- 21:37Speaker 3: be still over five hundred. I'm never going to sell
- 21:39Speaker 3: these Brewers short every year. This is the year they're
- 21:43Speaker 3: gonna fall off until then, I actually see it with
- 21:45Speaker 3: my own eyes. There's a reason why they traded away.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I mean, they trade them on the sterio and they
- 21:50Speaker 3: got Rinhifa, right, so they're kind of maybe up that
- 21:53Speaker 3: a little bit. They made some moves and every time
- 21:56Speaker 3: we question what are they doing, what are they doing? Well,
- 21:58Speaker 3: they have Woody Big Wou Woodriff coming back, right, they
- 22:01Speaker 3: get Sprot, they get Harrison. There's a reason why they
- 22:05Speaker 3: went out and traded for these guys. And they always
- 22:07Speaker 3: seem to be trying to stay ahead of this curve
- 22:10Speaker 3: of when they're gonna start in the downcycle. And they've
- 22:13Speaker 3: done a really good job of being ahead of this curve.
- 22:16Speaker 3: And remember, they lost Hater. Oh, the world is ending.
- 22:19Speaker 3: They lost Devin Williams. The world is ending. They lost
- 22:22Speaker 3: Corbn Burns. The world is ending. They lost Willia Domas.
- 22:25Speaker 3: The world is ending. Now it's Freddy for now, it's
- 22:28Speaker 3: Freddy Peralta, and it's Durvin right, the world is ending. Well,
- 22:32Speaker 3: the Brewers just believe in themselves. Murph has an unbelievable
- 22:36Speaker 3: way of talking to these guys and getting to believe.
- 22:40Speaker 2: So listen, I.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Think they're an eighty for eighty six win team the
- 22:44Speaker 3: way they're constructed. And do I think the Pirates are
- 22:47Speaker 3: better than them?
- 22:48Speaker 2: No? Do I like what the Pirates did? Yes?
- 22:50Speaker 3: But I still think until someone should approves it to me,
- 22:52Speaker 3: I'm not gonna bet against the Brewers. I made too
- 22:54Speaker 3: many mistakes doing in the past.
- 22:57Speaker 7: I mean they got rid of Isaac Collins and Durbin,
- 23:01Speaker 7: two guys that were three and four in Rookie of
- 23:03Speaker 7: the Year voting. Would they have gotten any votes for
- 23:06Speaker 7: MVP or anything. No, But if you look back to
- 23:09Speaker 7: twenty twenty four when they picked up Joey Ortiz, Joey
- 23:13Speaker 7: Ortiz was I think I would have to look it up,
- 23:16Speaker 7: but I think he was a he was almost a
- 23:19Speaker 7: three war player. He had a drop off in the
- 23:22Speaker 7: season last year for twenty twenty five as the essentially
- 23:27Speaker 7: he was their shortstop and he had a drop off.
- 23:30Speaker 7: So it's not like everybody just has career years. So
- 23:34Speaker 7: for them to have a good season, not everybody has
- 23:36Speaker 7: to have a career year. Everybody has to contribute though,
- 23:40Speaker 7: And I think when I when I look at their
- 23:42Speaker 7: projected lineup, when I look at their projected rotation, I
- 23:46Speaker 7: see it being top heavy. And I think the one
- 23:49Speaker 7: thing that Murph talks about is do something to help
- 23:54Speaker 7: the team win. It's you know, people will say, oh,
- 23:56Speaker 7: it's a college type of thing. And Murph kind of
- 23:58Speaker 7: bristles at that, but it really is a mentality of
- 24:02Speaker 7: what are you going to do to help the team win,
- 24:04Speaker 7: because in pro ball it sometimes is rare because you
- 24:08Speaker 7: look at a Garrett Mitchell who's been injury laid, and
- 24:11Speaker 7: you look at a South Freelick towards the bottom of
- 24:14Speaker 7: their lineup. How do you get paid? Home runs? You know, RBIs,
- 24:20Speaker 7: stole bases, all that stuff is what ends up getting
- 24:23Speaker 7: you paid. They are bought into what it takes for
- 24:27Speaker 7: this team to win. When I say they're top heavy,
- 24:30Speaker 7: this lineup, Jackson Churio, Bryce Terrang, William Contrere's Christian Yelich,
- 24:34Speaker 7: they all have to have above average years. They all
- 24:38Speaker 7: they are the guys who drive their team just like
- 24:41Speaker 7: any other team. Their names aren't as big. Bryce Terrang,
- 24:45Speaker 7: I think was fourteenth in the MVP voting, and those
- 24:49Speaker 7: guys have to continue to produce at that level for
- 24:53Speaker 7: this team to be able to withstand the I don't
- 24:55Speaker 7: know what's gonna happen if we call up Jet Williams,
- 24:59Speaker 7: is Joey or Tiz a big league shortstop, like all
- 25:02Speaker 7: those things have to get figured out. And they do
- 25:05Speaker 7: have that top of the order and top of the
- 25:08Speaker 7: rotation pieces that are almost like like, you can't they
- 25:12Speaker 7: can't miss. You can't have a bad year from those guys,
- 25:15Speaker 7: and expect this team to get over those projected wins.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Also, you said RBIs get you paid. Those don't get
- 25:23Speaker 1: you paid. But you're saying, you know the personal stats
- 25:27Speaker 1: and arbitration. Sure, some of the personal stats get pushed
- 25:31Speaker 1: aside with a team like this, and Pat Murphy has
- 25:34Speaker 1: this unique ability to create more team baseball. It's not
- 25:39Speaker 1: an old school versus new school thing, at least not
- 25:41Speaker 1: in my mind. AJ. It's a selfish versus self liss thing.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I think sometimes you look at a team and you're like,
- 25:50Speaker 1: it's not all clicking together. And last year with the
- 25:53Speaker 1: Brewers offense, you were like, this isn't full of superstars,
- 25:57Speaker 1: but it's all clicking together. And then if you can
- 26:00Speaker 1: just maintain level and stay in the five hundred range,
- 26:03Speaker 1: you get one pop where you get hot and all
- 26:05Speaker 1: of a sudden you win ten in a row or
- 26:07Speaker 1: whatever they did. It was a lot and boom, you blink,
- 26:10Speaker 1: you're a ninety seven win team.
- 26:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think that the way murph Ron's this team,
- 26:16Speaker 3: we've talked about this, and he doesn't love this comparison.
- 26:18Speaker 3: That's why I like bringing it up to him is
- 26:20Speaker 3: he runs it like he was a to the college
- 26:22Speaker 3: coach a little bit. It's a little bit smaller ball.
- 26:26Speaker 3: It's a little bit we're gonna take the extra base,
- 26:28Speaker 3: we're gonna play great defense, and we're just gonna out
- 26:31Speaker 3: fundamental a lot of teams. And they can win a
- 26:33Speaker 3: lot of games like that, and they've proven that fact.
- 26:35Speaker 3: And I love that way to play because there's action,
- 26:38Speaker 3: there's excitement, there's pressure on the other teams, and m listen.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Murph just does a great job of getting everyone to
- 26:45Speaker 3: come together. He's a leader of men. He's funny, he's quirky,
- 26:49Speaker 3: he's all those things that Murph is. But at the
- 26:50Speaker 3: end of the day, this guy is a leader of
- 26:51Speaker 3: men and he knows how to push the right buttons.
- 26:56Speaker 1: And with that, I think the Brewers will be good
- 26:58Speaker 1: and I think they will be better than the Pirates.
- 27:01Speaker 1: They also have a good farm system. Pirates too too,
- 27:03Speaker 1: but Bruce have a good farm system. It was a
- 27:06Speaker 1: little bit of an issue for them like five years ago,
- 27:08Speaker 1: and they've really built something up and they continue to
- 27:11Speaker 1: get stronger on the young core department too. We'll see
- 27:14Speaker 1: how Brandon's Sprote and Jet Williams look like in the
- 27:16Speaker 1: Freddie Peralta deal. So I think the Burers are going
- 27:19Speaker 1: to be a pain. Are they going to win ninety
- 27:20Speaker 1: seven games?
- 27:20Speaker 5: Probably not?
- 27:21Speaker 1: But could they win eighty six? They win eighty eight?
- 27:24Speaker 1: Could they win the division? Absolutely? Could they make a
- 27:26Speaker 1: playoff spot?
- 27:27Speaker 2: Sure?
- 27:27Speaker 1: Could they just miss the playoffs because the Cubs got
- 27:30Speaker 1: better and some other teams in the division got better.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Maybe the Reds have a full run of a year.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Sure that could be the case too. We have one
- 27:36Speaker 1: of the newest Milwaukee Brewers, Kyle Harrison, is here. Kyle,
- 27:40Speaker 1: great to have you on the show and tell us
- 27:42Speaker 1: about the whole process here because it happened pretty late.
- 27:45Speaker 1: You're probably like, here we go getting ready Red Sox
- 27:48Speaker 1: spring training. Oh wait, I'm going to Arizona.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Right, No, one hundred percent.
- 27:53Speaker 8: You know, was out there in Fort Myers for a
- 27:55Speaker 8: week early and got out there early. You know, was
- 27:58Speaker 8: you know, trying to go out there, and yeah, I
- 28:02Speaker 8: couldn't make it through the physical I guess, you know. So,
- 28:04Speaker 8: uh No, I'm like, like we were talking about earlier,
- 28:06Speaker 8: just happy to be back in Arizona. Man, and no
- 28:10Speaker 8: man pump for this opportunity.
- 28:11Speaker 2: You have no idea how good spring training is in Florida,
- 28:13Speaker 2: though I don't.
- 28:14Speaker 5: I don't, I know.
- 28:15Speaker 3: So you almost got to go to God's Country for
- 28:17Speaker 3: a while for about seven weeks, and you have no
- 28:20Speaker 3: idea what how much it's how cool it is to
- 28:22Speaker 3: have like beaches and shakes and water and trees and
- 28:25Speaker 3: all these cool things that they don't have in Arizona.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Now that now the travel is better in Arizona, right,
- 28:30Speaker 3: So I'll give you guys that, but you know, Florida's.
- 28:33Speaker 5: Oh trust me, I was looking forward to it would
- 28:35Speaker 5: actually you.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Would have sweated when you're pitching out in Florida. We've
- 28:39Speaker 3: been all these crazy things. You live here, so it
- 28:42Speaker 3: obviously is better for you to be here. And I
- 28:45Speaker 3: try to explain this all the time, explain how important
- 28:47Speaker 3: those extra six to seven weeks are just at home.
- 28:49Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I didn't even realize that. It's funny
- 28:51Speaker 5: you say that.
- 28:52Speaker 8: You know, the off season just felt a little shorter
- 28:54Speaker 8: because you know, I've been out here, you know, for
- 28:56Speaker 8: spring training for what four or five spring trainings now,
- 28:59Speaker 8: and yeah, just you know that two months kind of
- 29:01Speaker 8: extra two months is huge. You know, they able to
- 29:03Speaker 8: sleep at home and recover, you know at home.
- 29:06Speaker 5: You know, it's awesome. Man. So uh, that's the biggest thing.
- 29:09Speaker 5: You know.
- 29:09Speaker 8: I'm just happy to be in a familiar place and
- 29:11Speaker 8: a little bit of a commute in the morning.
- 29:12Speaker 5: But not too bad.
- 29:14Speaker 7: You were already out you said, you're already out in
- 29:16Speaker 7: Fort Misery for a week. Correct, that's what you just said.
- 29:19Speaker 5: Yeah, it's funny you call it that. I've heard that
- 29:20Speaker 5: only a couple of times.
- 29:22Speaker 7: Okay, well only the people that well, you were in
- 29:24Speaker 7: the good side of Fort Myers, the Twins side of
- 29:26Speaker 7: Fort Myers. That's fort that's Fort Misery.
- 29:29Speaker 2: There.
- 29:29Speaker 6: You go, take us through.
- 29:30Speaker 7: Take take the fans through before we get into your stuff.
- 29:32Speaker 7: Take the fans through what it is like. You're out there,
- 29:35Speaker 7: you have an apartment getting everything back out to Arizona.
- 29:39Speaker 7: I know you live here, but it's not like, oh cool,
- 29:42Speaker 7: get my glove, I'll get my cleats, and I'll just
- 29:45Speaker 7: stroll onto the plane.
- 29:46Speaker 6: Like there's more than that.
- 29:47Speaker 7: The team has to cover your apartment that's out in Florida.
- 29:51Speaker 8: Correct, one hundred percent, you know, and I'm lucky enough.
- 29:54Speaker 8: I know a great guy over there, Cutter Crawford, and
- 29:56Speaker 8: I was living out of his place, so it made
- 29:58Speaker 8: the transaction a little easier over there. So yeah, man,
- 30:02Speaker 8: but like you said it, you know, it was like
- 30:03Speaker 8: got the rental car all figured out out there and
- 30:05Speaker 8: then uh, you know, it's just a lot of moving pieces.
- 30:08Speaker 8: And yeah, it was was back the Arizona the next
- 30:11Speaker 8: day and here we go again, you know.
- 30:14Speaker 5: Just ready to go exactly.
- 30:16Speaker 8: You don't have had, you don't have a family, just
- 30:18Speaker 8: a girlfriend and yeah, it's very very to do everything right.
- 30:21Speaker 8: She takes care of a lot of it. So yeah,
- 30:23Speaker 8: I mean, yeah, you know, like you're transuming. Krats is
- 30:25Speaker 8: like twelve kids.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah he got traded, he got he had to transport
- 30:28Speaker 3: like twelve kids back and forth. Oh yeah, so it's
- 30:31Speaker 3: a little bit different. What did you think when you
- 30:33Speaker 3: got traded? Because it's already your second time being traded.
- 30:36Speaker 3: It's not like you're an old old guy, right, Yeah,
- 30:38Speaker 3: you know, it's crazy it's twice and for some big
- 30:40Speaker 3: name guys, yeah.
- 30:41Speaker 8: For sure, in a short amount of time too, you know,
- 30:43Speaker 8: the two teams. But you know, for me, it's just
- 30:46Speaker 8: you know, after that first one. Like I've been telling
- 30:48Speaker 8: everyone earlier, it's like, yeah, I knew everyone in San
- 30:50Speaker 8: Francisco very well, and that was more of the shock,
- 30:53Speaker 8: you know. But you know, we didn't really get my
- 30:55Speaker 8: feet settled into Boston. So it's you know, once it
- 30:58Speaker 8: happens once, you know, Man, I'm like, you know, it's
- 31:00Speaker 8: baseball at the end of the day, and I'm ready
- 31:01Speaker 8: to just get the ball and go compete.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Man. That's it. That's all you got to look at it.
- 31:07Speaker 6: All right.
- 31:07Speaker 7: So you so you played in the PCL, the Pacific
- 31:10Speaker 7: Coast League and the IL.
- 31:12Speaker 6: We talked about travel before.
- 31:13Speaker 7: Yeah, obviously it's the minor leagues. But were you ever
- 31:19Speaker 7: able to get your feet under you making that transition
- 31:22Speaker 7: you changed an entire new league.
- 31:24Speaker 6: You obviously want to be in the big leagues.
- 31:26Speaker 7: You know, you have the pressure of being a centerpiece
- 31:29Speaker 7: for the Raffie Devers trade, all of that going on.
- 31:34Speaker 7: How could you have made it or how could the
- 31:36Speaker 7: team have made that transition easier for you?
- 31:40Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, it's a tough question.
- 31:42Speaker 8: You know, I personally enjoyed my my experience over in
- 31:44Speaker 8: Boston because I got to try new stuff. Man, you know,
- 31:47Speaker 8: I got to experience experiment with the cutter. You know,
- 31:50Speaker 8: it didn't go go too well down to Worcester there
- 31:52Speaker 8: a little bit kind of throw it for a strike
- 31:54Speaker 8: for a little bit there, but got the experiment with
- 31:56Speaker 8: that a new change up as well and throwing a
- 31:58Speaker 8: sinker to lefties. So I think by the time there
- 32:01Speaker 8: was honestly cool. They just kind of learned new things,
- 32:04Speaker 8: take different things from different guys and the coaches that
- 32:07Speaker 8: were great to me. So no, man, it was just
- 32:10Speaker 8: taking what I could from there and then now applying
- 32:12Speaker 8: it to my game now and just seeing how I
- 32:14Speaker 8: could grow day by day.
- 32:16Speaker 1: What is the tinkering balance? Like when you're with the
- 32:20Speaker 1: new team like Boston, they probably come to you, like
- 32:23Speaker 1: you said, with some ideas. You want to try it out,
- 32:26Speaker 1: but you also want to put up numbers, you want
- 32:28Speaker 1: to perform. And then now you head to Milwaukee here
- 32:31Speaker 1: and did they have some information or some conversation with
- 32:34Speaker 1: you about anything different and how you balance that with
- 32:38Speaker 1: performance on the field.
- 32:40Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I'd say, you know, when I got here,
- 32:43Speaker 8: you know, it's a very very chill environment. You know,
- 32:45Speaker 8: they kind of let you run the show. You know,
- 32:48Speaker 8: hookies out there watching you every day, he's on you
- 32:51Speaker 8: during catch play and holding you accountable. So it's just
- 32:55Speaker 8: been little talks here and there, you know, worrying about
- 32:57Speaker 8: the arsenal stuff later as I get into games more
- 32:59Speaker 8: and more or and no, man, you know, it's just
- 33:03Speaker 8: there's still a lot of confidence in here and I've
- 33:05Speaker 8: I've sensed nothing but great thanks from these guys, and
- 33:08Speaker 8: I'm just excited to get better each and every day here.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Man. It's it's a great organization and I'm just happy
- 33:12Speaker 5: to be here.
- 33:14Speaker 2: What do you think they do different here?
- 33:16Speaker 8: Sorry, I don't know, man, It's it's hard to say,
- 33:19Speaker 8: you know, just because I've only been here for what
- 33:21Speaker 8: a week and a half, so, but I'd say just
- 33:23Speaker 8: the attention, the detail to everything, you know, catch play.
- 33:27Speaker 8: You know, I was telling Hooky, you know, I'm like,
- 33:29Speaker 8: I haven't worked this hard and catch play in my
- 33:31Speaker 8: you know, five years I've been a pro ball and
- 33:32Speaker 8: it's just little stuff, you know, an external cue.
- 33:36Speaker 2: To play catch?
- 33:36Speaker 5: Do you know they answer that question play catch.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Because you're not supposed to play.
- 33:41Speaker 5: You're supposed to have a catch.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Yeah, right, it's called catch play.
- 33:44Speaker 8: It's a catch play, you know, it's it's uh, you know,
- 33:47Speaker 8: it translates to the mound, you know, and that's what
- 33:49Speaker 8: you know. It's crazy that's taken me this long. Toy
- 33:51Speaker 8: kind of realize that. But you gotta treat every day,
- 33:54Speaker 8: you know, like you're just working hard man, you know,
- 33:57Speaker 8: that's it. And you know they're looking at my external hughes,
- 34:00Speaker 8: you know, setting up cones, you know, in front of
- 34:02Speaker 8: a home plate to just keep me in line, you know,
- 34:05Speaker 8: keep everything in there. So just a lot of different
- 34:08Speaker 8: stuff that I'm trying. And it's cool, man, it's cool experiment.
- 34:11Speaker 8: And yeah, these guys are great.
- 34:14Speaker 7: You haven't been there very long. What's the one thing
- 34:17Speaker 7: you constantly keep hearing? You talked about catch play, talked
- 34:20Speaker 7: about the work. What's the one thing that's a constant
- 34:23Speaker 7: that you're hearing throughout from Matt Arnold when he traded
- 34:26Speaker 7: for you to Murph, to Hooky, the pitching coach, all
- 34:30Speaker 7: that stuff.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Yeah, that we don't I mean honestly that we don't care.
- 34:34Speaker 6: You know.
- 34:34Speaker 5: We just we want to work hard.
- 34:35Speaker 8: And you know, standings, projections, all that stuff. You know,
- 34:41Speaker 8: we don't care about that stuff, you know, And that's
- 34:44Speaker 8: something I've I've felt and it's just about the work
- 34:47Speaker 8: each and every day. And we work hard here man,
- 34:50Speaker 8: and it's it's cool to see.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Does Murph I have a nickname for you yet?
- 34:54Speaker 5: Not yet?
- 34:55Speaker 2: You know, does he know your name? Does he call
- 34:56Speaker 2: you by the proper name?
- 34:57Speaker 5: He does?
- 34:58Speaker 3: He does every everybody he calls by something, right, So
- 35:01Speaker 3: you haven't gotten to that.
- 35:02Speaker 5: I haven't gotten to that point yet.
- 35:03Speaker 8: You know. I got him a little cup of ice
- 35:05Speaker 8: the other day. You know, I was, I was shaking
- 35:06Speaker 8: a little bit. It was down in the dugout. He
- 35:08Speaker 8: was asking me. You know, hey, you've been in big
- 35:10Speaker 8: leagues before, right, you could fill me up so someone
- 35:12Speaker 8: can find some ice. And I'm over there over thinking
- 35:14Speaker 8: the world of it. So I think he's gonna have
- 35:16Speaker 8: some fun with me for sure.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Okay, did you grow up a Giants fan because you
- 35:19Speaker 2: grew up in the Bay Area?
- 35:21Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 35:21Speaker 8: No, I wasn't really a Giants my fan, because you know,
- 35:23Speaker 8: we just go to the A's games right there, you know,
- 35:25Speaker 8: little little tailgate play catch. You know, it's a couple
- 35:30Speaker 8: of glizzies. I mean, walk down behind home plate, get
- 35:33Speaker 8: the bleacher. Growing up going to those games.
- 35:38Speaker 3: So then it didn't break your heart that much when
- 35:40Speaker 3: you got traded from the Giants.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Not too bad, you know, just the relationships.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, but.
- 35:45Speaker 5: No man, no man. Obviously that was a team that
- 35:47Speaker 5: drafted me.
- 35:48Speaker 8: Being home was awesome, but no man, this, as you know,
- 35:51Speaker 8: baseball season consumes you anyway, So it's it's baseball.
- 35:54Speaker 5: Man.
- 35:54Speaker 3: Well, since your as I was thinking of, you're a
- 35:56Speaker 3: Giants fan, your family could have talked about the legend
- 35:59Speaker 3: that was me as of San Francisco Giants. They did
- 36:03Speaker 3: retire my jersey.
- 36:04Speaker 5: Ye, my dad was a Giants fan. I'll give you that.
- 36:05Speaker 3: So yeah, sure, so just make sure you're reminded them
- 36:07Speaker 3: that you met a guy who's retired by the Giants.
- 36:10Speaker 2: I will let him hold out and then you.
- 36:12Speaker 1: What real quick while we're on that, because you know,
- 36:16Speaker 1: we don't talk to a ton of players and necessarily
- 36:18Speaker 1: grew up in the area and we're going to A's games.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Did you did it.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Break your heart when you saw that the team left
- 36:25Speaker 1: and they're in Sacramento now, but obviously they're going to Vegas.
- 36:28Speaker 1: I don't think oh.
- 36:30Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, minor leagues. I mean last year to Sacramento.
- 36:34Speaker 8: So yeah, man, you know, just yeah, I definitely playing
- 36:38Speaker 8: that last game there with the Giants.
- 36:39Speaker 5: I didn't pitch in it, but I was sitting.
- 36:41Speaker 8: That was my first time playing a game there in
- 36:42Speaker 8: the dugout and just standing up in that dugout, I
- 36:45Speaker 8: was like looking up at the you know, second deck.
- 36:47Speaker 5: It was only a second deck.
- 36:48Speaker 8: I was used to seeing third decks, and I'm like, yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 8: I'm going to miss this place, man, just this is
- 36:52Speaker 8: where you know, I grew up going to games. My
- 36:54Speaker 8: brother was the biggest Coco Crisp fan. So yeah, man,
- 36:57Speaker 8: you know, it was just an awesome spot and for
- 36:59Speaker 8: sure gonna miss it.
- 37:00Speaker 3: Then when you went to the Red Sox, didn't Coco
- 37:02Speaker 3: Chris get in a fight with the Red Sox when
- 37:04Speaker 3: he was with the Red Sox or against the Red Sox?
- 37:06Speaker 2: Which one was it?
- 37:06Speaker 5: Which one was it?
- 37:07Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 37:08Speaker 2: He was with the Red Sox. He went after James
- 37:11Speaker 2: Shields right yeah, yeah with the race.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:13Speaker 2: So when you then you.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Became a Red Sox where you're like, i know, put
- 37:16Speaker 3: the same uniform on as Coco Cris.
- 37:18Speaker 5: Yeah, my brother definitely was probably high.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I love it. You grew up it.
- 37:22Speaker 8: You went to day LaSalle High School? Yep, disappointed my dad.
- 37:26Speaker 8: I didn't play football there yeah.
- 37:27Speaker 2: I was gonna say, what was it like going to
- 37:28Speaker 2: a football school.
- 37:29Speaker 8: It was, uh, you know, it was good, you know,
- 37:31Speaker 8: but baseball wasn't far behind. That's what I didn't even
- 37:33Speaker 8: like four hundred games in a row. It was like
- 37:37Speaker 8: a documentary on Dayla style football. Yep, when the game
- 37:41Speaker 8: stands tall and the movie that came out what crap
- 37:44Speaker 8: like twenty thirteen, you know, something like that.
- 37:46Speaker 5: So that's some history there.
- 37:47Speaker 8: And definitely wanted to have a summer, want to have
- 37:50Speaker 8: a future in baseball, I felt like. So I had to,
- 37:52Speaker 8: you know, unfortunately not play football there, but couldn't run
- 37:55Speaker 8: the vier anyway.
- 37:56Speaker 2: So if you were a quarterback, would you have been
- 37:58Speaker 2: like a dropback?
- 38:00Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 38:01Speaker 8: You know, I like to think I had an armed
- 38:03Speaker 8: but you know we ran them veer, so you know,
- 38:04Speaker 8: we just I wasn't fast enough.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Man.
- 38:06Speaker 2: You can do all the fakes and stuff.
- 38:09Speaker 8: Well, that wasn't my game, you know. It was more
- 38:11Speaker 8: of the drop back a little quick. We left the
- 38:13Speaker 8: quarterbacks look weird.
- 38:14Speaker 2: When do you throw in a game? Here?
- 38:16Speaker 5: I want to say next at the end of this week.
- 38:18Speaker 8: Next week I got to go a little bullpended Day
- 38:21Speaker 8: Live VP coming up soon. Two ups, So we'll be
- 38:25Speaker 8: in the game here soon.
- 38:25Speaker 5: I think.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Are you excited?
- 38:27Speaker 5: I am? I am?
- 38:28Speaker 8: I am a good opportunity here, and just the guys
- 38:31Speaker 8: are great. You know, you know how many pitchers you
- 38:33Speaker 8: use in the season somewhere of stressing, you know, we're
- 38:35Speaker 8: using a lot of guys. So yeah, man, it takes
- 38:39Speaker 8: a village to you know, get to the postseason.
- 38:42Speaker 3: When you face the Giants. Well, I guess you played
- 38:44Speaker 3: the Red Sox too. Will there be a little more
- 38:47Speaker 3: adrenale for which one? Maybe for the Giants or the
- 38:49Speaker 3: Red Sox.
- 38:50Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 38:51Speaker 8: I don't know personally, you know, I just think I
- 38:54Speaker 8: think there's gonna be adrenaline every time I go out there, man,
- 38:56Speaker 8: I think.
- 38:57Speaker 3: But you know, there'll be a little there'll be a
- 38:59Speaker 3: little more spike for probably for the Giants because they
- 39:02Speaker 3: drafted you in trade first, right, you were rolling your
- 39:04Speaker 3: retsy for a short time.
- 39:06Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I have no bad feelings, but you know,
- 39:09Speaker 8: you know it as well as a player. You know,
- 39:10Speaker 8: it's just you want to go and improve yourself any time,
- 39:13Speaker 8: you know, show them what they're missing to say it, right,
- 39:15Speaker 8: you know?
- 39:16Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, I like that.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Well, Kyle, we really appreciate the time. Great to see you. Yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 1: welcome to Arizona and we'll talk to you during the year.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Bet I'm Jim Futures. Here's a special ninety plus wins.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Dodgers aren't on here. It's too high. They're not going
- 39:40Speaker 1: to put them on the board. But it starts with
- 39:42Speaker 1: the Yankees and Mets at minus one twenty five, Phillies
- 39:45Speaker 1: one fifteen to one hundred one hundred, Mariners minus one ten,
- 39:49Speaker 1: and then you get into the plus money teams like
- 39:51Speaker 1: the Braves and Blue Jays at plus one oh five,
- 39:53Speaker 1: the Cubs at plus one fifteen crafts. Last year, there
- 39:57Speaker 1: were eight teams that one ninety are more games? Which
- 40:01Speaker 1: one is your favorite from this list.
- 40:04Speaker 7: Because of the money and because of the team less
- 40:07Speaker 7: things going on around them. The Mariners, I think the
- 40:10Speaker 7: Mariners in that division, they did it last year. I
- 40:13Speaker 7: think they learned this is what it takes for us
- 40:16Speaker 7: to make it to the playoffs. They seem like they're
- 40:19Speaker 7: in Oregon that's not afraid to make moves. Obviously signing
- 40:22Speaker 7: Nailor and making the two acquisitions, the two big acquisitions.
- 40:25Speaker 7: It's a trade deadline last year. So I'm gonna go Mariners,
- 40:29Speaker 7: because that's who I got coming out of the the
- 40:32Speaker 7: American League West Okay, And they're all close here.
- 40:35Speaker 1: The ones that we're showing between one twenty five minus
- 40:37Speaker 1: won twenty five and plus one fifteen. AJ's their team
- 40:40Speaker 1: on the board here you feel really good about for
- 40:42Speaker 1: ninety plus wins.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Well, the Mariners I picked them to win the AL
- 40:45Speaker 3: and the blue Jays. The blue Jays are plus money.
- 40:47Speaker 3: I mean, they won ninety four last year and everyone
- 40:48Speaker 3: feels like they got better. So I think the blue
- 40:51Speaker 3: Jays are another one that should should be up there.
- 40:54Speaker 3: The Cubs, the division got has gotten better, so that's
- 40:57Speaker 3: the one thing I worry about. With the Cubs and
- 41:00Speaker 3: the Phillies, I think will probably figure out a way
- 41:02Speaker 3: to win ninety games. It's actually surprised to be the
- 41:05Speaker 3: Yankees and the Mets or the two that have the
- 41:07Speaker 3: highest odds. Maybe that's just because of where they're located
- 41:10Speaker 3: in a little East Coast bias, but I think the
- 41:12Speaker 3: Mariners and the Blue Jays and me are the two
- 41:13Speaker 3: on this list that make the most sense.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Yeah, the Yankees and Mets being the same as kind
- 41:19Speaker 1: of wild too. I think the Mets, ceiling wise is
- 41:22Speaker 1: just as good as the Yankees, but I think the
- 41:25Speaker 1: floor is much lower. I think the Yankees floor is
- 41:27Speaker 1: much higher than what the Mets have just based on
- 41:31Speaker 1: so much roster turnover. But the projections really like the Mets.
- 41:35Speaker 5: Clearly.
- 41:36Speaker 1: We've seen that from fangraps. We've seen that now here
- 41:39Speaker 1: from betmgm with the odds. So let us know if
- 41:42Speaker 1: there's something you like from here. And also you might
- 41:44Speaker 1: have in any sport parlay boost token in your account.
- 41:47Speaker 1: If you're a betmgm player, to use the parlay boost
- 41:51Speaker 1: token at a parlay wager made up of any sport
- 41:54Speaker 1: wagers to your betslip, activate the token. If you win
- 41:56Speaker 1: with that wager made with the token, you get extra winnings.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Gambling pro were concerned, called Wyned Hunter gambler
