  here. Last time, we heard how God gave Moses

  the Ten Commandments, his special rules for how

  his people should live. But while Moses was up

  on the mountain, something very sad happened.

  Today, we'll hear what the people did while they
• 0:27
  waited. and how they forgot the God who had rescued
• 0:31
  them. Are you ready? Let's begin. Moses stayed

  on Mount Sinai for a long time, 40 days and 40
• 0:52
  nights. God was giving him more instructions.
• 0:56
  And Moses was listening carefully. But down below,
• 1:00
  the Israelites were getting restless. They looked
• 1:04
  up at the mountain and saw clouds and thunder.
• 1:07
  But they didn't see Moses. They started to wonder.
• 1:13
  Is he ever coming back? What if something happened
• 1:17
  to him? Instead of trusting God and waiting patiently,
• 1:22
  the Israelites came to Aaron and told him they
• 1:25
  didn't know what had happened to Moses. Since
• 1:29
  it had been so long, they asked Aaron to make
• 1:32
  gods to lead them instead. And sadly, Aaron listened.
• 1:39
  He told the people to bring him their gold earrings.
• 1:43
  They melted the gold and shaped it into the form
• 1:46
  of a young cow, a calf. Then Aaron said, Here
• 1:52
  is your God who brought you out of Egypt. And
• 1:56
  the people began to worship the golden calf.

  They sang and danced and had a big party. But
• 2:04
  they weren't praising the real God. They had
• 2:08
  already forgotten the God who had saved them,
• 2:11
  the one who parted the Red Sea and sent food
• 2:14
  from heaven. On the mountain, God told Moses,
• 2:21
  The people have turned away from me, they are
• 2:24
  worshipping an idol. So Moses went down the mountain,
• 2:29
  carrying the two stone tablets with the ten commandments.
• 2:34
  When he reached the camp, he saw the people dancing
• 2:38
  around the golden calf. Moses was heartbroken
• 2:42
  and angry. He threw the tablets down, and they
• 2:46
  broke into pieces. Then Moses destroyed the golden
• 2:54
  calf. He reminded the people that there is only
• 2:57
  one true God, the one who brought them out of
• 3:01
  slavery. Can you imagine? God had done so many
• 3:11
  amazing things for the Israelites, but they got
• 3:14
  impatient. And instead of waiting and trusting,
• 3:19
  they chose their own way. Sometimes we do that
• 3:23
  too. We forget to pray or we stop trusting when
• 3:27
  things don't happen quickly. But God wants us
• 3:32
  to remember who he is, even when waiting is hard.
• 3:37
  God's people had made a big mistake. But God
• 3:42
  didn't give up on them. Moses prayed and asked
• 3:46
  God to forgive them. And even though the people
• 3:49
  had sinned, God still loved them. He was willing
• 3:53
  to give them another chance. That's what God
• 3:57
  does for us too. We might mess up, forget, or
• 4:02
  make wrong choices. But when we turn back to
• 4:05
  God, He is ready to forgive us and help us start
• 4:09
  again. Let's think about some things together.
