• 0:32
kids like you. Today, we're going on a
• 0:35
prehistoric adventure to a place where dinosaurs come back to
• 0:38
life, scientists make amazing discoveries, and a simple island
• 0:43
turns into a world of excitement and surprises.
• 0:46
That's right, we're talking about the Jurassic Park
• 0:49
franchise. So grab your explorer hat and
• 0:52
let's stomp into the fascinating world of Jurassic Park.
• 0:56
Let's start from the very beginning.
• 0:58
What is Jurassic Park, anyway? Imagine if you could visit a
• 1:01
zoo, but instead of lions, monkeys, or elephants, you'd see
• 1:06
  gigantic dinosaurs roaming around.
• 1:08
That's the idea behind Jurassic Park.
• 1:11
The Jurassic Park franchise is a series of movies, books, toys,
• 1:15
games, and even theme park rides all about bringing dinosaurs
• 1:19
back to life using science and technology.
• 1:22
The very first Jurassic Park story started as a book written
• 1:26
by Michael Crichton in 1990. Michael loved science and
• 1:29
adventure, so he thought, what if scientists could use dinosaur
• 1:33
DNA to clone real dinosaurs? That means making new dinosaurs
• 1:37
from old dinosaur DNA, like copying a recipe from a really
• 1:41
old cookbook. This cool idea turned into a
• 1:44
blockbuster movie in 1993, directed by a famous filmmaker
• 1:49
named Steven Spielberg. The movie was so exciting and
• 1:52
popular that it led to sequels, video games, toys, and even more
• 1:56
movies. So how did the scientists in
• 1:59
Jurassic Park bring dinosaurs back to life?
• 2:02
Well, in the story, they find dinosaur DNA trapped inside
• 2:07
amber. Amber is like a piece of ancient
• 2:10
golden tree SAP that can preserve things for millions of
• 2:13
years. Imagine finding a bug stuck in
• 2:16
honey. It might look the same after a
• 2:18
long, long time. In Jurassic Park, scientists
• 2:21
  discover mosquitoes trapped in amber.
• 2:24
These mosquitoes once spit dinosaurs and drank a tiny bit
• 2:27
of their blood. That blood holds the dinosaurs
• 2:30
DNA, which is like a recipe book that tells how to make a
• 2:33
dinosaur. Scientists use that DNA, fill in
• 2:37
the missing parts with DNA from frogs and presto, out hatch baby
• 2:41
dinosaurs. Now let's talk about the park
• 2:44
itself. Jurassic Park is set on a
• 2:46
tropical island called E la Nobler.
• 2:49
The island is filled with high fences, big gates and cool
• 2:52
vehicles to keep everyone safe. There are all sorts of
• 2:55
dinosaurs, from the gentle long necked Brachiosaurus munching on
• 3:00
treetops, to the speedy velociraptors hunting in packs,
• 3:03
to the king of the dinosaurs, the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex.
• 3:07
Visitors are supposed to stay safe inside their cars and watch
• 3:11
the dinosaurs, just like at a safari park.
• 3:14
But as you might guess, things don't always go as planned.
• 3:17
Did you know that the first Jurassic Park movie used both
• 3:20
real life puppets and computer animation to bring the dinosaurs
• 3:23
  to life? Back in 1993?
• 3:26
This was a brand new technology. Some dinosaurs were huge robot
• 3:30
models called animatronics, while others were created using
• 3:34
computers. One of the first times movies
• 3:36
used computer graphics to make animals look so real.
• 3:39
When people saw the dinosaurs on the big screen, they were
• 3:43
  amazed. It was like magic.
• 3:46
So what happens in the movies? Well, in the very first Jurassic
• 3:50
Park movie, a group of scientists, a couple of kids and
• 3:54
a park owner take a tour of the island.
• 3:56
But a big storm hits, the power goes out, and the dinosaurs
• 4:00
escape. Suddenly, the visitors have to
• 4:03
use their wits and teamwork to stay safe and outsmart the
• 4:06
clever Raptors and the roaring T Rex.
• 4:10
It's a wild adventure full of close calls, clever escapes, and
• 4:13
lots of dinosaur action. The Jurassic Park franchise
• 4:17
didn't stop there. There are 6 main movies so far.
• 4:20
After the first movie, there's The Lost World, Jurassic Park,
• 4:25
where people return to another island full of dinosaurs.
• 4:28
Then Jurassic Park 3 where a rescue mission goes wrong.
• 4:32
Years later, the story continues with Jurassic World, Jurassic
• 4:37
World Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World Dominion.
• 4:40
Each movie brings new dinosaurs, new characters, and even bigger
• 4:45
  adventures. Here's a fun fact.
• 4:47
The word Jurassic comes from a real time in Earth's history.
• 4:51
The Jurassic period happened about 145 to 200 million years
• 4:55
ago. That's so long ago it's hard to
• 4:58
imagine. If you lined up all the years
• 5:01
from now back to the time of the first humans, you wouldn't even
• 5:04
get close to how far back the Jurassic period was.
• 5:07
During that time, the world was warm, there were lots of plants,
• 5:11
and dinosaurs ruled the land. Now let's talk about some of the
• 5:14
most famous dinosaurs from Jurassic Park.
• 5:18
First up, the Tyrannosaurus Rex, or T Rex for short.
• 5:22
This dinosaur is the superstar of the franchise.
• 5:26
With its giant head, sharp teeth, and thunderous roar, the
• 5:30
T Rex is both scary and awesome. In the movies, the T Rex is
• 5:36
sometimes the villain, but sometimes it saves the day.
• 5:39
Then there's the Velociraptor, a smaller but super smart
• 5:43
dinosaur. In real life, velociraptors were
• 5:46
only about as tall as a big Turkey, but in the movies
• 5:49
they're much bigger and very clever.
• 5:52
They can even open doors. The Raptors are famous for their
• 5:56
  teamwork and sneaky hunting skills.
• 5:58
Some fans even call them the ninja dinosaurs.
• 6:02
Another gentle giant from the movies is the Brachiosaurus.
• 6:05
It has a super long neck and loves to eat leaves from the
• 6:08
tops of trees. In one famous scene, the main
• 6:12
characters see a brachiosaurus for the first time, and they're
• 6:15
so amazed they can't believe their eyes.
• 6:18
It's like seeing a living skyscraper.
• 6:21
Did you know that scientists today have learned even more
• 6:23
about dinosaurs since the first Jurassic Park movie was made?
• 6:27
For example, many dinosaurs may have had feathers just like
• 6:30
birds. In fact, birds are the closest
• 6:34
living relatives of dinosaurs. That's right, the next time you
• 6:37
see a pigeon or a Sparrow, you're actually looking at a
• 6:40
tiny modern day Dino cousin. The Jurassic Park franchise is
• 6:45
also famous for its music. The main theme song, written by
• 6:49
John Williams, is super catchy and exciting.
• 6:52
It's the kind of music that makes you feel like you're about
• 6:55
to discover something amazing. The next time you hear it, you
• 6:58
might feel like you're stepping into a world full of adventure.
• 7:02
Jurassic Park has inspired lots of games and toys too.
• 7:06
You can find dinosaur action figures, board games, and even
• 7:10
Lego sets that let you build your own Jurassic Park.
• 7:13
There are video games where you can run your own dinosaur park,
• 7:16
take care of the animals, and make sure nothing goes wrong.
• 7:19
It's a fun way to learn about dinosaurs and use your
• 7:22
imagination. Of course, Jurassic Park also
• 7:26
  teaches us some important lessons.
• 7:28
One big lesson is about respecting nature.
• 7:31
In the movies, the scientists are so excited to bring
• 7:34
dinosaurs back that they don't always think about what could go
• 7:37
  wrong. Sometimes trying to control
• 7:40
  nature can have unexpected results.
• 7:43
The movies remind us that nature is powerful and amazing, and we
• 7:47
should always treat it with care.
• 7:49
Another lesson is about teamwork and bravery.
• 7:52
The characters in Jurassic Park have to work together, solve
• 7:55
problems, and help each other to stay safe.
• 7:58
Whether it's escaping A sneaky Raptor or fixing the park's
• 8:01
electricity, everyone has to use their special skills to survive.
• 8:05
Did you know there's a real place inspired by Jurassic Park?
• 8:09
It's called Universal Studios, and it's a theme park with rides
• 8:12
where you can see giant animatronic dinosaurs just like
• 8:15
in the movies. You can even go on a water ride
• 8:18
where AT Rex pops out to say hello.
• 8:22
It's a way for fans to step right into the world of Jurassic
• 8:25
Park. The Jurassic Park franchise has
• 8:27
also helped spark interest in real life science.
• 8:30
Lots of kids who watch the movies grew up wanting to become
• 8:33
paleontologists, scientists who study fossils and learn about
• 8:37
  dinosaurs. Paleontologists use special
• 8:40
tools like brushes and shovels to carefully dig up dinosaur
• 8:43
bones and piece together what these amazing animals were like.
• 8:47
Maybe one day you'll dig up a new dinosaur and give it a cool
• 8:51
name. Before we finish our Dino
• 8:53
adventure, let's have a quick recap of what we learned today.
