- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:13Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth and
- 0:16Speaker 2: today we're joined by Steve Yanni, Brody Randall, Alyssa, Nate
- 0:21Speaker 2: and Seth. This is a ten round quiz show with
- 0:23Speaker 2: questions from meat eaters for verticals which are hunting, fishing,
- 0:26Speaker 2: conservation and cooking. And there is a prize. Meat Eater
- 0:29Speaker 2: will donate five hundred dollars to the conservation organization of
- 0:33Speaker 2: the winners choosing and before we turn on the mics,
- 0:35Speaker 2: Steve said he's created a new jingle for trivia.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Well, no, it's not for trivia.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Oh okay.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Over Christmas, we played a lot of Uno.
- 0:46Speaker 2: With my kids, uh huh.
- 0:48Speaker 4: And after a while we had we brought in the champions. Okay,
- 0:54Speaker 4: to have a championship of champions. Who are the champions
- 0:57Speaker 4: me and me and Maddie okay, And so I made
- 1:01Speaker 4: up a song that goes, He's the champion. Enough champions,
- 1:04Speaker 4: you can't be beat.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:10Speaker 4: So when thinking of that this, we were talking about
- 1:12Speaker 4: recording a championship and I was going to sing that
- 1:15Speaker 4: at the championship a lot.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Okay, Phil, You're taking notes.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I got it.
- 1:19Speaker 2: He's just gonna isolate that audio.
- 1:21Speaker 4: And now my daughter changed it to he's the Champion
- 1:24Speaker 4: enough champions.
- 1:25Speaker 3: He just got beat. Did you lose to her?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Did you let her win?
- 1:30Speaker 3: No?
- 1:31Speaker 1: No?
- 1:31Speaker 3: But that was post that was a scrimmage.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Okay. But in the Champion of Champions, who won between?
- 1:38Speaker 3: I prevailed in the championship?
- 1:40Speaker 2: Okay, good for you. You shouldn't let your kids win.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It's bad, bad for him.
- 1:46Speaker 4: After a long time, my older boy caught on that
- 1:48Speaker 4: UNO is largely a game.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Of luck that make him feel better or worse.
- 1:57Speaker 3: He doesn't. He didn't like it as much.
- 1:58Speaker 4: But then two nights ago I introduced my younger boy
- 2:01Speaker 4: and I remember playing, like in high school, did you
- 2:03Speaker 4: guys play a lot of in.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Between for money?
- 2:06Speaker 2: I've never heard of that.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yes, Oh my god, it's fun.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Man.
- 2:09Speaker 3: That ruins friendships though, dude.
- 2:11Speaker 4: So I was teaching him there night to play in between,
- 2:13Speaker 4: which we're hot on right now, but for money, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 4: we gamble.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Now for the stat of the week. This week, we're
- 2:20Speaker 2: looking at the number seventy six. That's how many days
- 2:23Speaker 2: it's been since Steve was last on Trivia ste where
- 2:26Speaker 2: you been.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Man all summer long and all most fall long. I
- 2:33Speaker 4: was recording a new show, filming a new show.
- 2:37Speaker 3: For History Channel.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Called Hunting History, which is about we explore eight outdoor mysteries,
- 2:49Speaker 4: things ranging from what exactly is up with cattle mutilations?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Oh, what part of the country were you looking at
- 2:57Speaker 2: in Oregon, Okay?
- 2:58Speaker 4: Which is a way richer field. I blew it off.
- 3:02Speaker 4: I blew it off. Yeah, it's a it's a.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Way richer field of inquiry than.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Uh.
- 3:11Speaker 3: We visited with ranchers who've had mutilated cattle.
- 3:14Speaker 4: We visited, we visited, uh, we visited with like PhD.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Animal pathologists, lots of stuff.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, that that happened around my hometown in like the
- 3:28Speaker 2: early two thousands. And I feel like the typical experience
- 3:32Speaker 2: was they would find a dead count that they would
- 3:35Speaker 2: say had almost laser like precision of removing organs and
- 3:41Speaker 2: removing eyeballs, And I think I think logical people accredit
- 3:46Speaker 2: it to like scavengers pick out the eyeballs first, they
- 3:49Speaker 2: go for the organs first, and and like some cattle
- 3:52Speaker 2: will blow to a point where they just like split
- 3:54Speaker 2: down the middle. Can you tell us what conclusion you
- 3:57Speaker 2: came to we got to watch the show.
- 3:58Speaker 4: You gotta watch the show. Okay, I ain't buying that
- 4:01Speaker 4: it's aliens. We get into that, Okay, we go hang
- 4:06Speaker 4: out with a rancher. I mean, I'm not talking like
- 4:09Speaker 4: a some guy watching Yellowstone TV show. Yeah, a rancher. Rancher, dude,
- 4:18Speaker 4: there is no He's gone through every possible explanation and
- 4:25Speaker 4: the only thing he can land on is that it
- 4:28Speaker 4: was not human.
- 4:29Speaker 2: What years are we talking about this happened?
- 4:31Speaker 4: What year did his happen? The bones are still laying there.
- 4:34Speaker 4: We went out to Skelton, still laying there. I metal
- 4:37Speaker 4: detected the whole area. I don't think it's aliens.
- 4:42Speaker 5: Did he see anything that.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Might have been extraterrestural? He did? We talk about it.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I feel like South Dakota too. When it was happening
- 4:51Speaker 2: in the early two thousands. That's when he was like
- 4:53Speaker 2: ripe to have email chains, like stuff was getting prior
- 4:57Speaker 2: to social media, stuff would just like get forwarded around
- 5:00Speaker 2: a lot.
- 5:01Speaker 4: I went to another site with a guy with a manager,
- 5:05Speaker 4: a ranch manager went to a nur site where he
- 5:07Speaker 4: had five bulls done in one night. Looked at those, Okay,
- 5:12Speaker 4: a lot of pictures I don't want to get in
- 5:15Speaker 4: too much what I think is going on.
- 5:16Speaker 3: But uh, we took Kyle laid it out.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Brand spanking new, brand spanking new, and laid it out
- 5:25Speaker 4: and watch what happened to it?
- 5:26Speaker 2: And you're you're coming at it from the perspective of
- 5:29Speaker 2: an outdoorsmant which maybe isn't how other people had exactly.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I had. I had Mercer lnging with me because
- 5:36Speaker 3: he does a lot of livestock work. We went out.
- 5:38Speaker 4: I hung out with a houndsman who works on cattle
- 5:41Speaker 4: depredations because all he does is look at dead Kyle's
- 5:44Speaker 4: trying to figure out what happened to him hung out
- 5:46Speaker 4: with him. He's got theories about what does it?
- 5:50Speaker 6: Uh?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Is it aliens?
- 5:54Speaker 3: He doesn't think that.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Okay, So.
- 6:00Speaker 4: The pathologists have their own theories about what they think,
- 6:04Speaker 4: which I I don't think.
- 6:05Speaker 3: They're looking at it right.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Did one on the Donner Party?
- 6:11Speaker 2: Mm? You went to where it happened? Everywhere it happened, okay, everywhere?
- 6:16Speaker 2: Had you eat any folks on that episode didn't know?
- 6:20Speaker 4: But I boiled hide. They had a lot of boiled
- 6:24Speaker 4: hide when they first got stuck. They skinned out there.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Before they started eating each other.
- 6:28Speaker 4: They skinned out their horses and oxen and stuff after
- 6:30Speaker 4: a while and ate the meat.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Dry the meat, ate the meat, used the hides for shelters.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Then they wound up needing to eat those hides, so
- 6:37Speaker 4: boiled up some hide.
- 6:38Speaker 3: See what that's all about?
- 6:40Speaker 2: How that pass?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Three? It's you know what, man, it's not it's flavored.
- 6:45Speaker 3: It's weirdly.
- 6:46Speaker 4: It's weirdly flavor flavorless, but it's real sticky and glooy.
- 6:50Speaker 3: And then you know what.
- 6:51Speaker 4: We just had this dude on the podcast, the guy
- 6:54Speaker 4: that found the starved to death.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Guy Okay in Alaska.
- 6:59Speaker 4: He gave me a book which is in the twenties.
- 7:02Speaker 4: These guys got in the twenties. These three guys went
- 7:07Speaker 4: up into the Canadian Arctic and they were going to
- 7:10Speaker 4: trap all winter, and they had a spot where they
- 7:13Speaker 4: thought they could live on caribou, but the caribou never came,
- 7:16Speaker 4: so they all starved to death.
- 7:18Speaker 3: The youngest kid lived a long long time.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Like the youngest kid didn't starve to death till endo June,
- 7:24Speaker 4: and he kept a meticulous journal.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Up till the end, and.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Then had the wherewithal to put it in the wood stove.
- 7:32Speaker 4: They didn't get found for a while later, put it
- 7:34Speaker 4: in the woodstove with a sign that says looking woodstove.
- 7:37Speaker 4: And there's his journal. And they were eating hides and
- 7:41Speaker 4: they were eating crushed bone, just like the Donner Party people.
- 7:44Speaker 4: But he describes as all of the time and effort
- 7:47Speaker 4: they spent trying to make enema contraptions, because when you're
- 7:51Speaker 4: boiling that crushed bone and eating that hide, it would
- 7:54Speaker 4: obstruct their bowel, okay, And so they're sometimes trying to
- 7:59Speaker 4: pick out of each other and out of themselves these
- 8:02Speaker 4: wads dry bone that would form back up in your gut.
- 8:06Speaker 4: And that's kind of what seems like that's what's killing
- 8:09Speaker 4: them more than anything, is eating hide and bone.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It like all thell Was it like anything else you'd eating?
- 8:17Speaker 3: No?
- 8:17Speaker 1: Okay?
- 8:18Speaker 3: No, did remind me of miso soup?
- 8:22Speaker 7: So did you pass everything? All? Right?
- 8:25Speaker 2: Well?
- 8:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't eat many meals of it. But we
- 8:28Speaker 4: made a shelter like how they made. We talked a
- 8:30Speaker 4: lot of scientists, archaeologists, and it was kind of like
- 8:33Speaker 4: like looking at like what like what did they do that?
- 8:37Speaker 4: Like like what was what was mistakes they made.
- 8:42Speaker 3: And what could have gone different?
- 8:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 8:45Speaker 4: But the thing that people don't think about with the
- 8:47Speaker 4: Donner parties, it was fifty percent children.
- 8:51Speaker 2: You're right, I don't think about that.
- 8:52Speaker 4: There's a lot of people like, oh, I would have
- 8:53Speaker 4: walked out of there, you know, fifty percent children? Yeah,
- 8:58Speaker 4: from infants, like from infants up.
- 9:03Speaker 2: So this new show that you were busy filming unting
- 9:05Speaker 2: History that's kept me away from doing reason going to
- 9:07Speaker 2: be on Trivia comes out later this month and that's
- 9:10Speaker 2: on the History Channel. All right, Now, here's our Infrequently
- 9:14Speaker 2: Asked Questions segment. If you have a Trivia related question
- 9:17Speaker 2: for our crew, send it to Trivia at the media
- 9:19Speaker 2: dot Com with the subject line I f a Q.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Ben Stewart says, on one episode of Trivia, it was
- 9:25Speaker 2: casually mentioned that Stephen Chester once wrestled and Chester pinned him.
- 9:29Speaker 2: What's the story behind that?
- 9:32Speaker 3: Did he? I got pictures of.
- 9:34Speaker 5: It on the ice in North dakotzero something like that.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Was it real wrestling or were you guys like.
- 9:46Speaker 4: It's pretty bogged down with clothes probably the problem not
- 9:49Speaker 4: Chester though.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Did he stripped down in a wrestling uniform?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Did one of you have COVID?
- 9:56Speaker 3: Oh, that's right, I might have had No, I didn't
- 9:58Speaker 3: have COVID.
- 10:00Speaker 7: Everyone else I was healthy, and that was how it started.
- 10:02Speaker 7: Jester and I had just gotten over COVID, so we
- 10:04Speaker 7: were in the clear.
- 10:06Speaker 2: M hm.
- 10:06Speaker 3: He might have been like kind of amped up from it.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah, oh of COVID.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Do you know the funny thing about wrestling if I
- 10:17Speaker 4: ever told you the story? But you know when you say, uh,
- 10:19Speaker 4: like Doug Darren does like talk.
- 10:21Speaker 3: To text, you know, uh huh.
- 10:23Speaker 4: And one time we was saying, we're arguing about something
- 10:27Speaker 4: and he said he was gonna he meant to say
- 10:28Speaker 4: he was gonna.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Arm wrestle me for it, but said he's gonna farm
- 10:31Speaker 3: wrestle me for it. Not that we've laughed about that
- 10:34Speaker 3: a million times. What exactly that table?
- 10:38Speaker 2: Now we have some housekeeping to get to. On a
- 10:40Speaker 2: previous episode of Trivia, we talked about how Jeopardy may
- 10:44Speaker 2: have borrowed a question from me eater trivia. Oh, we
- 10:47Speaker 2: now have the New York Times doing the same thing.
- 10:50Speaker 2: They off our stuff word puzzle.
- 10:52Speaker 4: Give me an example, just everything we do a podcast
- 10:55Speaker 4: on some sucker there writes an article.
- 10:57Speaker 2: About, all right, well here's what happened.
- 11:02Speaker 3: They steal our stuff all the time.
- 11:03Speaker 2: We've got more.
- 11:04Speaker 4: One in that newsroom is a big fan of the
- 11:06Speaker 4: podcast and steals our stuff.
- 11:08Speaker 2: On October ninth, during Many Crossword Week on our website,
- 11:12Speaker 2: I had a puzzle that was National Park themed for
- 11:15Speaker 2: five across. The clue was, quote, one percent of Yellowstone
- 11:20Speaker 2: is in this state. The answer was Idaho, and you
- 11:23Speaker 2: can see this on Phil's screen there.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Well.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Five days later, for the New York Times Monday crossword puzzle,
- 11:30Speaker 2: they had an eerily similar clue. Here's what their prompt
- 11:33Speaker 2: was for thirty one down, quote state that contains a
- 11:37Speaker 2: sliver of Yellowstone National Park. The answer was, of course, Idaho.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Now that puzzle was created by Dana Edwards, who was
- 11:45Speaker 2: making his New York Times crossword puzzle debut. Dana doesn't
- 11:49Speaker 2: work at the Times. He's a journalist and photographer from
- 11:52Speaker 2: the Columbia Journalism School, and from looking at his Instagram,
- 11:55Speaker 2: I doubt he's even ever heard of meat eater. But
- 11:58Speaker 2: he did say something very suspicious in his crossword column
- 12:02Speaker 2: that week. Here's the quote. I used chat GPT to
- 12:06Speaker 2: write some code to search my word list for phrases
- 12:09Speaker 2: that used four sets of double letters. Dana was referring
- 12:13Speaker 2: to one of his themes that week, which was words
- 12:16Speaker 2: with double letters like Mississippi and Hollywood, Idaho wouldn't be
- 12:20Speaker 2: part of the theme, he said he used chat gpt
- 12:23Speaker 2: for but it does show that he leaned on AI
- 12:26Speaker 2: to make his puzzle. If that obscure clue was borrowed
- 12:29Speaker 2: from meat Eater, then it was likely fed to Dana
- 12:32Speaker 2: via chat gpt. However, there's a decent chance that this
- 12:36Speaker 2: is just a coincidence. The New York Times lead puzzle
- 12:39Speaker 2: editor Will Schwartz said in a two thousand and nine
- 12:42Speaker 2: interview that he receives over one hundred puzzles per week
- 12:45Speaker 2: with a five percent acceptance rate, and crosswords are backlogged
- 12:49Speaker 2: for two to six months. This makes it unlikely they
- 12:52Speaker 2: used a clue from meat Eater just five days after
- 12:55Speaker 2: it was published. But I have reached out to the
- 12:58Speaker 2: New York Times crossword team so we can solve this.
- 13:01Speaker 2: In the meantime, head over to the medeater dot com
- 13:03Speaker 2: slash games to play our crossword puzzles that are so
- 13:06Speaker 2: good that the New York Times wants to steal them.
- 13:10Speaker 2: So they had almost almost word for word, the same
- 13:13Speaker 2: exact clue, and I'll remind you. The New York Times
- 13:15Speaker 2: has the entire dictionary, the entire encyclopedia. Everything on earth
- 13:20Speaker 2: is at their disposal. I was only doing National Parks
- 13:22Speaker 2: and they still use the same clue of a very
- 13:25Speaker 2: obscure outdoor fact five days after I did. Yep, we're
- 13:30Speaker 2: going to solve this. Now.
- 13:32Speaker 3: I've written there a few times over the years.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Maybe you're the maybe you're there. We've got a rat.
- 13:39Speaker 2: We've figured it out.
- 13:41Speaker 8: Now the sheltering what you were if that was a
- 13:44Speaker 8: barbelle or if it was a double ended hot dog cooker,
- 13:48Speaker 8: But now I see.
- 13:50Speaker 2: It's a skinny man lifting a bunch of weight. Now
- 13:54Speaker 2: the Shelby and Expert today is a four, So our
- 13:56Speaker 2: winner should get eight correct answers. And with that we're
- 13:59Speaker 2: on to the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 14:05Speaker 2: I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 14:10Speaker 3: How's it just tend to win everything?
- 14:19Speaker 2: Gamon Suckers. Question one. The topic is hunting and has
- 14:23Speaker 2: always this will be multiple choice. Which of these states
- 14:27Speaker 2: does not have a big horn sheep season? Is it
- 14:31Speaker 2: South Dakota, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota. Hit me with them again,
- 14:41Speaker 2: Which of these states does not have a big horn
- 14:43Speaker 2: sheep season. You can see the question on Phil's TV.
- 14:46Speaker 2: There your four choices. South Dakota, Oklahoma, Nebraska, or North Dakota.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Three of those states have a hunting season for big
- 14:57Speaker 2: horn sheep. One of them does not.
- 15:00Speaker 7: Some of a.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Bitch, Steve's out of practice here?
- 15:07Speaker 3: Can you get out of practice at trivia?
- 15:09Speaker 2: If we were playing uno though, you boys be cooked? Randall?
- 15:13Speaker 2: Can you reach for a new marker for Brody? I'd
- 15:16Speaker 2: be happy you're having problems.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Any preferences on color?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Ah?
- 15:20Speaker 9: I like, uh, you know, like a natural color like
- 15:23Speaker 9: blue green.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Which of these states does not have a big horn
- 15:27Speaker 2: sheet in? South Dakota, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota.
- 15:33Speaker 3: I am hating this question.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Everybody ready, I don't.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Hate this question. Did you style your hair like that? Oh?
- 15:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I just got a shower.
- 15:41Speaker 9: We should encourage people to watch this episode on YouTube
- 15:44Speaker 9: so they can see Honest's new hair do.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I always like him a lot better. He's got that
- 15:48Speaker 3: little buzz cut.
- 15:49Speaker 8: This is the problem with long hair, is that if
- 15:51Speaker 8: it just hangs down and gets annoying, so you gotta
- 15:54Speaker 8: get it off your ears and off your forehead.
- 15:57Speaker 3: It'll be buzz cut soon.
- 15:58Speaker 2: You think that says more about you, Steve for more
- 16:00Speaker 2: about Yanni. Me and both of you think he behaves
- 16:04Speaker 2: better when he's got a buzz cut. You'd like him better.
- 16:06Speaker 3: He's just gonna go through life better.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Is more focused, more disciplined.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Yea, it is warmer. I will give the law.
- 16:12Speaker 9: My boys behaved better and when they got nice short haircuts.
- 16:15Speaker 7: That's why I keep it long better, a little long
- 16:18Speaker 7: in the winter because it's warmer.
- 16:20Speaker 2: South Dakota, Oklahoma, Nebraska, North Dakota. Is everybody ready, go
- 16:24Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. We have sex saying Nebraska,
- 16:28Speaker 2: Steve Oklahoma, Randall Oklahoma, Alyssa Nebraska, Nate Nebraska, Jannis Oklahoma,
- 16:39Speaker 2: Brody Oklahoma. Nobody picked a Dakota. It is not the Dakota's.
- 16:45Speaker 2: The correct answer is Oklahoma.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Hell yeah.
- 16:54Speaker 2: South Dakota gives out nine tags, North Dakota gives out seven,
- 16:58Speaker 2: and Nebraska gives out two. Oklahoma had their first documented
- 17:03Speaker 2: big horn sheep in twenty twelve, when a carcass was
- 17:06Speaker 2: found near Black Mesa in the state's Panhandle. More sightings
- 17:10Speaker 2: have happened in the last decade, with a small herd
- 17:12Speaker 2: traveling between Oklahoma, Colorado, and New Mexico.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Cool Question two.
- 17:17Speaker 2: The topic is gear. This is our listener question of
- 17:20Speaker 2: the week, which was won by Jerry Mitchell for sending
- 17:22Speaker 2: this great question. Jerry is going to get a board
- 17:24Speaker 2: game signed by the crew. If you want a chance
- 17:27Speaker 2: to win our listener Question of the Week, then send
- 17:28Speaker 2: your question to Trivia at the meat Eater dot com.
- 17:32Speaker 2: According to the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute, twenty
- 17:38Speaker 2: gage shotgun shells should be this color.
- 17:41Speaker 3: He's the.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Steve even Mystic, as well as Seth Randall and Brody.
- 17:50Speaker 2: According to Sammy, twenty gage shotgun shells should be this cul.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I think you should have picked the more obscure games.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Yeah stupid, I got Yeah. Phil was back Phil.
- 18:10Speaker 1: You notice anything new about Phil?
- 18:12Speaker 4: Let me stand up, Let me see huh oh you're
- 18:14Speaker 4: you're you're low setup like the better.
- 18:17Speaker 3: He looked like a DJ.
- 18:18Speaker 5: I was giving a serious back problem.
- 18:20Speaker 7: So I'm down here now.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I will tell you this. Brody and Steve, I picked
- 18:24Speaker 2: this specific gauge because they are very firm on their language,
- 18:29Speaker 2: and they are not as firm on their language. Got
- 18:32Speaker 2: other gauges, So I don't think that's giving a hint,
- 18:34Speaker 2: but they are adamant about this gauge and this color.
- 18:38Speaker 9: After this question, I'm gonna tell you what my favorite
- 18:40Speaker 9: color for the cages.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Well, we'll test you guys on colors and gauges.
- 18:47Speaker 8: Be I'll tell you about a Christmas present I got
- 18:53Speaker 8: involving some shotgun shells.
- 18:55Speaker 2: You're gonna be jealous again. According to Sammy, twenty gage
- 18:59Speaker 2: shotgun shells should be this color. Is everybody ready? Go
- 19:03Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth and Steve
- 19:08Speaker 2: and Randall saying yellow. Alyssa says green, Nate says yellow.
- 19:13Speaker 3: He crossed out than that he was gonna say blue.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yannis says yellow, Brody says yellow. They got it. The
- 19:20Speaker 2: correct answer is yellow, Although it's not a loss. Sammy
- 19:25Speaker 2: strongly recommends AMMO manufacturers should make their twenty gage shells yellow.
- 19:30Speaker 2: It used to be commonplace for shotgun shells to be
- 19:33Speaker 2: color coded, but AMMO companies have taken more liberties in
- 19:36Speaker 2: recent years. I'm gonna test you guys. Do you know
- 19:39Speaker 2: what ten gauge is usually brown?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Brown?
- 19:43Speaker 2: Do you know what twelve gauges?
- 19:44Speaker 5: Red?
- 19:45Speaker 2: Red or black? Red or black? Sixteen?
- 19:49Speaker 3: Purple?
- 19:49Speaker 2: Purple, twenty eight gauge what was it? Twenty eight gauge
- 19:55Speaker 2: blue green, four tens are red though four ten is red.
- 19:59Speaker 2: That's right, So I remind you ten gauge brown, twelve
- 20:02Speaker 2: gauge red or black, sixteen gauge purple, twenty eight gauge green,
- 20:06Speaker 2: four ten red.
- 20:08Speaker 7: I was duck hunting last weekend and had was shooting
- 20:11Speaker 7: at twelve gauge and I had four different colors.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Oh, I read and this was not from an official source.
- 20:17Speaker 2: It was more forum chatter that it became less common
- 20:21Speaker 2: to color coordinate after they started stamping brass, which wasn't
- 20:24Speaker 2: always the case. Makes sense, Brody, you had a favorite,
- 20:28Speaker 2: I said at sixteen gage they were all purple. Sixteen
- 20:31Speaker 2: My dad to sixteen and Yanni, you're going to share
- 20:34Speaker 2: with us your Christmas gift A ken Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 8: I got a reusable meaning artificial wreath that is adorned
- 20:42Speaker 8: with red and yellow shotgun shells over one hundred, according
- 20:45Speaker 8: to my brother in.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Law, a homemade one seth. What were those four colors
- 20:50Speaker 2: you were grabbing from?
- 20:51Speaker 7: There was green, there was like a tannish color, There
- 20:57Speaker 7: was red, There was actually five colors. There was black,
- 21:01Speaker 7: and there was blue.
- 21:02Speaker 2: The other one i'd say about twelve gauge being red.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I feel like I have a lot that you'd call
- 21:06Speaker 2: maroon instead of red.
- 21:09Speaker 7: Yeah, what the whatever the bismuth the what's the federal
- 21:15Speaker 7: bismuth stuff? That's like a maroon?
- 21:17Speaker 3: I guess yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 7: Question three times I would put three different shells in
- 21:22Speaker 7: just to see which one hit better.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Question three. The topic is Noah defines this as quote
- 21:31Speaker 2: a fishing practice that herds and captures the target species
- 21:35Speaker 2: by towing a net along the ocean floor.
- 21:39Speaker 3: He's a champ.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Champ, couldn't tell Steve likes his answer. Whiteboard is already down.
- 21:48Speaker 2: This is Question three. Topic is conservation. Noah defines this
- 21:54Speaker 2: as a fishing practice that herds and captures the target
- 21:58Speaker 2: species by towing a net along the ocean floor.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Who I got a trivia question for you.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Okay, I just fleshed and stretched the river outer I caught.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Remember we had those ladies on and got mauled by
- 22:14Speaker 3: the otter of your neighbor. People are like, I don't
- 22:17Speaker 3: think you I would have killed it with.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I just fleshed and stretched a river otter. Do you
- 22:23Speaker 4: take Here's a tri trivia question. It's a it's a tiebreaker.
- 22:28Speaker 4: How long does that hide?
- 22:32Speaker 5: Specifically the one Steve was fleshing.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I was gonna say, like forty one inches five eleven?
- 22:40Speaker 3: Wowow, it's tip of nose to tip of tail five eleven.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Damn is that just a normal sized hoter?
- 22:47Speaker 3: You think giant?
- 22:48Speaker 1: I think that Otter tells everybody six feet.
- 22:52Speaker 3: And chees.
- 22:53Speaker 9: You can get that thing stuffed into a pillow.
- 22:55Speaker 4: No, I can't do it. I haven't decide I'm gonna
- 22:57Speaker 4: do it yet. I might get a hat. I might
- 22:59Speaker 4: do it the hat as a wall hanger. I have decided.
- 23:02Speaker 2: That makes me terrified of a seatter, knowing that thing
- 23:05Speaker 2: was five eleven kill you again. This as a fishing
- 23:12Speaker 2: that herds and captures the target species by towing a
- 23:16Speaker 2: net along the ocean floor. Steve is very confident. I
- 23:20Speaker 2: think Brody likes his answer. Randall does have an answer.
- 23:24Speaker 2: I don't.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I'm not sure I like mine.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Okay, Randall probably the only boat here. He may not
- 23:30Speaker 2: know it.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Steve right, Did I change mine based on Steve's?
- 23:40Speaker 2: He just laughing at rand It could be genuine.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Or don't change it. I thought we were trying to
- 23:45Speaker 3: throw them.
- 23:46Speaker 5: Steve, did you write yours on the brown side.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I got a weird board. It's both side.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 23:59Speaker 2: have set saying trolling. Steve says that's trolling.
- 24:05Speaker 3: No, he said trolling.
- 24:07Speaker 2: The problem. The problem is that that another.
- 24:13Speaker 5: This is trolling, Seth saying trolling.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Steve says trawlling, Randall says purse, Sainting says cast and Bates,
- 24:26Speaker 2: Nate says dragonetting, Giannis says tralling. Brody says trolling. The
- 24:33Speaker 2: correct answer is tralling about half of our players. Right
- 24:38Speaker 2: to him, I.
- 24:39Speaker 5: Don't think we give it to you doesn't mean trolling.
- 24:43Speaker 2: He means, how would you spell?
- 24:47Speaker 3: Spelling doesn't matter.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I know, but if you spell another fishing technique, he.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Doesn't think troll. Crank Base will give it to you, Seth.
- 24:55Speaker 2: But how would you spell trolling if you were pulling
- 24:58Speaker 2: plugs for Walleye.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Dude the same spelling? Spelling is not my thing.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Okay, we'll give it. We'll give it to Seth.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Now you didn't know, like there's a certain person that
- 25:11Speaker 4: would have it, and I would say, don't give it
- 25:13Speaker 4: to him.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Okay, would you give it to Brody if Brody wrote, yes,
- 25:16Speaker 2: you would.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Yes, because I know that he I know that he
- 25:20Speaker 4: knows what trolling is.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Okay, so we will accept the trolling or trolling.
- 25:25Speaker 5: I can't.
- 25:29Speaker 8: No, No, you're not accepting trolling. You're only accepting misspelled trollingspelling.
- 25:38Speaker 4: As a misspelled trawling rather than him just putting down
- 25:41Speaker 4: a fishing term.
- 25:42Speaker 2: So at home and.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Pray and spray.
- 25:46Speaker 5: If your answer trawling.
- 25:48Speaker 2: If your answers are verbal, then you need to say trolling.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Why do you But if you're writing it.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Down, why do you think the trolling and trawling share
- 25:56Speaker 4: of spelling?
- 25:59Speaker 5: Didn't think of?
- 26:00Speaker 2: Trawling is used to target a variety of seafoods such
- 26:04Speaker 2: as cod, halib it, rockfish, squid, shrimp, flounder, and crab.
- 26:08Speaker 2: The fishing technique can be too effective, which results in
- 26:12Speaker 2: piles of bycatch. It's estimated that in the last sixty
- 26:15Speaker 2: five years, trawlers have unintentionally caught five hundred million tons
- 26:20Speaker 2: of non target animals.
- 26:21Speaker 4: Oh it's I don't mean the hack, but yeah, it's
- 26:24Speaker 4: it's a very controversial fishing style.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Question four. The topic is fishing. This next great question
- 26:29Speaker 2: is via Jeff Bowels the Idaho Department of Fishing Game
- 26:34Speaker 2: calls this hybrid their quote secret weapon for controlling populations
- 26:39Speaker 2: of non native fish.
- 26:42Speaker 8: Brody, who didn't even wait.
- 26:44Speaker 2: For bitch Brody already has his answer. This is question four.
- 26:49Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. The Idaho Department of Fishing Game
- 26:53Speaker 2: calls this hybrid their secret weapon for controlling populations of
- 26:57Speaker 2: non native fish. Brody the only player with an answer
- 27:03Speaker 2: so far. Maybe I'm wrong, Maybe he's wrong, Randall, boat
- 27:11Speaker 2: was trawling in.
- 27:11Speaker 10: Your Brainard, Yeah, I didn't like my answer as I
- 27:17Speaker 10: previously suggested, especially after Steve.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Shredded it.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I thought he was trying to get you to change.
- 27:24Speaker 10: No, No, I see there's genuine glee in his eyes.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Is fading fast right now, man.
- 27:32Speaker 2: The Idaho Department a Fishing Game calls this hybrid their
- 27:36Speaker 2: quote secret weapon for controlling populations of non native fish.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Brody is optimistic.
- 27:44Speaker 9: Optimistic with an answer so far, people call themselves anglers
- 27:49Speaker 9: in this room.
- 27:49Speaker 2: It's kind of a joke.
- 27:53Speaker 7: Well it ain't, Walleye.
- 27:57Speaker 2: No, that's correct, and Odi provided a hint saying he's
- 28:02Speaker 2: never caught.
- 28:02Speaker 1: One of these.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Jack feel like is a pretty genuine hint. Yeah sure, yeah,
- 28:12Speaker 2: Well we'll read out your crossed out answer as well
- 28:15Speaker 2: as the answer that you're going with.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Oh you know what it could be, could.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Be that, Oh wow, he might have two crossed out answers.
- 28:25Speaker 2: He's gonna ride down every hybrid he can think of. Steve,
- 28:30Speaker 2: are you ready? We're waiting on you. Yeah, go ahead
- 28:37Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have without an answer, we have, Steve,
- 28:42Speaker 2: he crossed out tiger muskie. He crossed out cut bow,
- 28:45Speaker 2: and he wrote down spike. Randall says tiger musky. Alyssa
- 28:50Speaker 2: without an answer. Nate says, Saga, Yannis, Spike Brody, tiger muski.
- 28:57Speaker 2: We have a correct answer. It's tiger muskie.
- 29:01Speaker 3: Son of a bitch. You see the head that he did.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Along with cutbow and spleke, Tiger muskie are a cross
- 29:10Speaker 2: between northern pike and muskie. They are strategically used across
- 29:14Speaker 2: North America as a top down biological control. The benefit
- 29:18Speaker 2: of stalking tiger muskies is that they have a huge appetite,
- 29:22Speaker 2: are sterile, and provide more sport fishing opportunities. Question five,
- 29:26Speaker 2: Wait are those.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Are you running a perfect game right now?
- 29:29Speaker 9: Yeah, but we've only done my three questions.
- 29:31Speaker 2: We've done four questions. We will get a scoreboard update
- 29:34Speaker 2: from Fill the engineer after.
- 29:38Speaker 5: Pike Native Taho.
- 29:40Speaker 2: No, I don't know. There's no way musky are Yeah.
- 29:44Speaker 7: That's surprised me that they would stalk them.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Well, so that you don't have to worry about those things,
- 29:48Speaker 2: you're not out of control. Question five. And it's not
- 29:51Speaker 2: just Idaho, Utah, Colorado. I think a lot of the
- 29:54Speaker 2: rocky Mountain states and elsewhere do it? Question five? The
- 29:57Speaker 2: topic is cooking. Taste of Home magazine describes this vegetable's
- 30:02Speaker 2: flavor as quote, a little bit sweet like garlic and
- 30:06Speaker 2: a little bit pungent like onions. This is question five.
- 30:13Speaker 2: We'll get a scoreboard update for Steve from Phil after this.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Taste of Home describes this vegetables flavor as a little
- 30:21Speaker 2: bit sweet like garlic and a little bit pungent like onions. Steve,
- 30:28Speaker 2: you like your answer. Maybe he's going back to his
- 30:33Speaker 2: white board and doing some more writing.
- 30:35Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind you reading both for me.
- 30:38Speaker 8: Okay, is this vegetable commonly found in the grocery.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Store not going to give you any hints? Taste of
- 30:45Speaker 2: Home describes its flavor as a little bit sweet like
- 30:48Speaker 2: garlic and a little bit pungent like onions, but.
- 30:52Speaker 3: It means it's not a type of onion.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Not giving you any hints. You need to think about
- 31:00Speaker 2: what Taste of Home would be describing here.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Yeah, think about it. Yeah, I'm not familiar with that,
- 31:06Speaker 3: Magan neither.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Tasting Home magazine. I think you walk into any grocery store,
- 31:10Speaker 2: it's going to be one of the prominent cooking magazines
- 31:12Speaker 2: on their shelf.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Why is it being read here at this program?
- 31:17Speaker 2: Because I need to figure out a way to get
- 31:20Speaker 2: you to give the right answer. And this is how
- 31:22Speaker 2: I can assign a definition to somebody. If I were
- 31:25Speaker 2: just to tell you, if I were to say this vegetable,
- 31:28Speaker 2: I'm saying, like.
- 31:29Speaker 3: This doesn't feel like I have anything to do with it.
- 31:31Speaker 2: It's a cooking question, and.
- 31:35Speaker 1: He's covering by attributing it to another authority.
- 31:39Speaker 2: You can't argue with their direct quote.
- 31:42Speaker 9: The word I was looking for me, I just like,
- 31:45Speaker 9: can't like I can picture the thing.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Does anybody like their answer?
- 31:49Speaker 3: I think I do. I like both of mine.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Okaylissa feel okay about what's on their wife Nate is
- 31:58Speaker 2: now joining.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Them with an answer, Yeah, changing it. Do you like that?
- 32:03Speaker 2: Do you too, agree, he's not gonna come. Randall and
- 32:08Speaker 2: Steve have the same check are you Are you ready Brody?
- 32:13Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm just like it's not gonna comes.
- 32:17Speaker 2: I was gonna say, go ahead and reveal your answers
- 32:20Speaker 2: to set d. Steve wrote down ramp, crossed that out
- 32:26Speaker 2: and put shallot. Randall says shallot, scallion, Nate crossed out,
- 32:33Speaker 2: beat radish, Yanni says scallion, and Brody says onion. Have
- 32:43Speaker 2: a correct answer. It's shallot. Randall and Steve got that
- 32:50Speaker 2: one right.
- 32:50Speaker 3: You know what.
- 32:51Speaker 4: I put down ramp because I was like, you know,
- 32:52Speaker 4: this is like an outdoor show.
- 32:55Speaker 3: But then I'm like, sometimes he don't care.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Shallots in the same family leaks chives, garlic, and onion
- 33:02Speaker 2: taste of homes. As in a pinch, you can substitute
- 33:05Speaker 2: a sweet onion for a shalot. They are commonly used
- 33:08Speaker 2: in salad dressings, stocks, egg dishes, and pasta dishes. Fell
- 33:13Speaker 2: we're halfway through the game. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 33:18Speaker 5: We've got Yeah, it's been a while since you've been here.
- 33:21Speaker 5: I think we've been doing the score.
- 33:22Speaker 1: You're gonna love the big twist at the end.
- 33:24Speaker 3: We've got nobody tell him he did.
- 33:29Speaker 6: Alyssa has zero points, Nate's coming up next with one,
- 33:33Speaker 6: Seth has two, Giannis has three, and tied up in
- 33:37Speaker 6: first placer Steve Randall n Brody with four points, apiece.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Would you save that otter question for the actual tiebreaker?
- 33:45Speaker 3: We do a.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Charade round for question nine? Now, oh you do? Yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 1: Spencer to act something out and we just have to answer.
- 33:51Speaker 2: And then we have a Phil does a singing question
- 33:54Speaker 2: for question eight.
- 33:54Speaker 4: It's true, so if he's saying he's the champion, then
- 33:58Speaker 4: we know it's me.
- 33:59Speaker 3: You can't be.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Question six, the topic is natural history. What President spearheaded
- 34:07Speaker 2: the Lewis and Clark expedition? Nate Randall, Yanni, excuse me?
- 34:17Speaker 2: Steve Brodie all quick to answer, what president spearheaded the
- 34:22Speaker 2: Lewis and Clark expedition?
- 34:26Speaker 3: Throwing Randall a bone there?
- 34:27Speaker 9: You know he's a historian.
- 34:30Speaker 1: How's I mean we should all know this?
- 34:36Speaker 2: He says that, as Seth and Alyssa have a blank
- 34:39Speaker 2: white board.
- 34:40Speaker 1: It's part of our shared history.
- 34:42Speaker 9: They're right about that.
- 34:44Speaker 2: What President spearheaded the Lewis and Clark expedition?
- 34:49Speaker 3: This is question the verb choices yeah, yeah, you'd think
- 34:54Speaker 3: he was there.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Poor Okay, at the front. Steve's complained about three of
- 35:01Speaker 2: the six questions so far.
- 35:05Speaker 3: I'm just pointing out it's like a poor word choice.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Melissa Seth, Are you going to come up with an answer?
- 35:14Speaker 3: I think everyone's ready.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and Alyssa do
- 35:19Speaker 2: not have an answer, and the rest of the room
- 35:22Speaker 2: says Thomas Jefferson, they got it. The correct answer is
- 35:26Speaker 2: Thomas jeff If he.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Had said who conducted the Louisiana purchase, would you guys
- 35:29Speaker 4: have got that?
- 35:31Speaker 2: But he didn't conduct it. He wasn't even in Europe
- 35:33Speaker 2: when it happened.
- 35:35Speaker 3: It happened under his administration.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Spearhead Jefferson asked Congress to fund an expedition to the
- 35:42Speaker 2: Pacific Ocean three months before France even offered the territory
- 35:46Speaker 2: for sale. Word hadn't even gotten back to Jefferson yet
- 35:49Speaker 2: about the Louisiana purchase, when he already had Merriwether Lewis
- 35:53Speaker 2: prepping for the journey. So Steve Jefferson thought they were
- 35:56Speaker 2: going to Europe to buy the New Orleans Port. He
- 35:59Speaker 2: didn't know that they were going to buy the entire territory.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Your phrasing of the question would have been wrong. No,
- 36:06Speaker 2: you said who.
- 36:07Speaker 3: I would have said what president was in office at
- 36:10Speaker 3: the time. What you just said, though I said spearheaded,
- 36:13Speaker 3: was a poor word choice.
- 36:15Speaker 1: We don't need two of these in the room.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Question seven, the topic is fishing. This next great question
- 36:21Speaker 2: is via Aaron Welsh. The American Voter Exam defines this
- 36:26Speaker 2: seven letter word as quote the cross section of the
- 36:30Speaker 2: stern where you attach an outboard motor.
- 36:34Speaker 3: But everyone's going to get this.
- 36:39Speaker 10: When we were in when we were in Yellowstone, the guy,
- 36:43Speaker 10: the snowcoach driver was explaining how the three forks of
- 36:48Speaker 10: the Missouri got their names, and I forget, you know,
- 36:50Speaker 10: it's obviously Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin. And he said, he said, well,
- 36:55Speaker 10: we all know who Madison and Jefferson are, but do
- 36:59Speaker 10: you know who gal is?
- 37:01Speaker 1: And you answered.
- 37:02Speaker 3: I did, I did?
- 37:03Speaker 10: I said, I said, Secretary of the Treasury and he
- 37:06Speaker 10: and he goes, that's right, Steve Gallatin, it's Albert Gallaxy.
- 37:12Speaker 5: Did you crack bender?
- 37:13Speaker 9: Do you know you know what Jefferson sent those fellows
- 37:16Speaker 9: out there looking for?
- 37:18Speaker 2: Well, I mean there was a number of things, but
- 37:20Speaker 2: one of the things. I'm guessing you referring to Willie mammoths.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and.
- 37:25Speaker 2: There's a lot of things to Uh.
- 37:27Speaker 4: There's certain little titbits and history that are off that
- 37:30Speaker 4: are much trafficked.
- 37:34Speaker 3: That one being one of them. Sure, I've trafficked that
