- 0:04Speaker 1: We're back. Welcome back to Cardinal territory.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I'm Katie Wu. He's Trevor Rosenthal. We have officially reached
- 0:11Speaker 2: the dog days of spring. I feel like we've lived
- 0:14Speaker 2: the same day out here in Jupiter for the last
- 0:17Speaker 2: thirty days. But some good news is on the horizon.
- 0:20Speaker 2: There are less than two weeks left of spring training,
- 0:22Speaker 2: less than three weeks until opening day, and camp.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Is about to heat up.
- 0:27Speaker 2: From a position battle standpoint, the next week and a
- 0:29Speaker 2: half two weeks of games, they're gonna matter a lot
- 0:32Speaker 2: in terms of player performance, and the Cardinals certainly have
- 0:34Speaker 2: a lot to figure out in that regard.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Trevor, how are you? What do you think of camp
- 0:39Speaker 1: so far?
- 0:40Speaker 3: What's up, Katie? I'm doing good.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I feel like this is the time of camp where
- 0:47Speaker 4: I agree it's getting a little anxious to get the
- 0:50Speaker 4: season started. This might be the time of year where
- 0:52Speaker 4: I'm like looking over, you know, across the clubhouse. If
- 0:56Speaker 4: you're in the clubhouse, Kate, But like Katie, you need
- 0:58Speaker 4: a nickname, Mike, you have a nickname. We need to
- 1:01Speaker 4: come up with one, you know, just looking for some
- 1:03Speaker 4: creative things to get through these last couple of weeks.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah, It definitely feels that way and some of these
- 1:09Speaker 2: some of these guys have been here, like there's you know,
- 1:12Speaker 2: who's competing for a spot and who's not, who's eventually
- 1:14Speaker 2: going to be cut, and then there's the middle ground,
- 1:17Speaker 2: and that's what we as baseball enthusiasts are really latching onto.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Like the pressing questions for the Cardinals over the last
- 1:26Speaker 2: two weeks of spring, there are a ton of position
- 1:29Speaker 2: battles center field. Who've talked about that all spring long.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Is it going to be Victor Scott the second or
- 1:34Speaker 2: Michael Siani the bench is still yet to be determined.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Do you know that there's going to be some combination of.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Ivon Herrera and Pedro Pajz So whoever is not the
- 1:41Speaker 2: starting catcher that's going to take a roll off the
- 1:44Speaker 2: bench super utility. There are three guys in camp right now,
- 1:48Speaker 2: Jose for me, Jose Brero and Michael Herman. Hellman, I
- 1:51Speaker 2: got three brain cells today, so everyone that is watching
- 1:54Speaker 2: just just bear with me. And then you have a
- 1:58Speaker 2: bunch of pitching battles and that's where I think we
- 2:00Speaker 2: should start today. Trevor, you being a pitcher and all
- 2:03Speaker 2: of that, let's talk with the rotation.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Coming into camp, was.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Under the impression that it'd be a battle for the
- 2:09Speaker 2: fifth spot between Steven Matts and Andre Polante.
- 2:14Speaker 1: That has changed. Enter Michael McGreevey and Matthew.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Libertoor, who, as we know, came up through the Cardinals
- 2:21Speaker 2: starting or the Cardinals farm system as a starting pitcher.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Bounced around a lot between roles.
- 2:25Speaker 2: He was in the rotation, he was in relief, he
- 2:27Speaker 2: was in Memphis, he was in Saint Louis. Really figured
- 2:30Speaker 2: things out for himself in the second half of last
- 2:32Speaker 2: season as a multi ending reliever. But he's looked really
- 2:36Speaker 2: good this spring. His stuff has played up and now
- 2:38Speaker 2: he is back in the rotation. Mix Suddy Gray, Eric Fetni, Miles, Michaelis.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Those guys are locks for the rotation, which essentially means
- 2:45Speaker 2: there are four guys competing for two spots right now. Trevor,
- 2:48Speaker 2: how do you think this is going to shake out?
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah? I agree.
- 2:52Speaker 4: McGreevey's looked really good. I think it's interesting. I've been
- 2:56Speaker 4: listening to the guys on the Deal in the Cards
- 2:58Speaker 4: podcast for a few months. How they can keep calling. Yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 4: shout out to those guys. They do a great job.
- 3:03Speaker 4: They're there's a lot of fun. But they've been calling
- 3:06Speaker 4: for Eric Fetti to get traded for for a while,
- 3:09Speaker 4: and uh, I think there's a good, even a better
- 3:12Speaker 4: case for that when you when you look at somebody
- 3:14Speaker 4: like Michael McGreevy and ideally, I mean, you would like
- 3:17Speaker 4: to have him get some opportunity at the major league
- 3:20Speaker 4: level this year, And I don't think that that's gonna
- 3:22Speaker 4: happen out of the gate. I think he's a guy
- 3:24Speaker 4: that starts in triple A because of Gray and Fetti
- 3:27Speaker 4: and michaelis uh being anchors in that rotation.
- 3:31Speaker 3: And then and then you know you, I think.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Libertor, I think he's gonna be a guy well all
- 3:39Speaker 4: back up. I think Polonte first of all, first and foremost.
- 3:42Speaker 4: I think he's gonna be that fourth guy. And then
- 3:44Speaker 4: when we look at the fifth spot in the rotation,
- 3:47Speaker 4: I think what I'm seeing, uh, with with how they've
- 3:51Speaker 4: been playing this out so far, with Liberator not getting
- 3:54Speaker 4: any starts and coming in and kind of piggybacking, it's
- 3:57Speaker 4: like a It's like a hybrid six man rotation.
- 4:00Speaker 3: And I like this.
- 4:01Speaker 4: I like it even more if if libertoor was getting
- 4:04Speaker 4: starts and they were picking piggybacking Matts with him in
- 4:09Speaker 4: his starts, and and and for a few reasons, but
- 4:12Speaker 4: mainly because of Matt's health, I think it should be
- 4:15Speaker 4: a priority to keep him healthy and maybe limits his
- 4:18Speaker 4: usage at the beginning of the season. But combining those
- 4:21Speaker 4: two guys together, especially in the beginning, would give us
- 4:24Speaker 4: an opportunity to see how it all shakes out.
- 4:27Speaker 3: I don't know that. That's kind of what I'm thinking,
- 4:29Speaker 3: What do you what do you got, Katie?
- 4:31Speaker 2: So let's let's backtrack a little bit with Eric Fetty
- 4:34Speaker 2: and Stephen Matts and if they're legitimate trade candidates. I
- 4:36Speaker 2: think the Cardinals been trying to trade Matts for a while.
- 4:39Speaker 2: There just hasn't been a market for him. If there was,
- 4:42Speaker 2: I don't think he would be here still. And it's
- 4:44Speaker 2: complicated things a little bit just in terms of, you know,
- 4:48Speaker 2: the runway, the opportunity, all of our favorite words of
- 4:51Speaker 2: spring and if that exists in the rotation or not.
- 4:54Speaker 2: But as I'm looking at how this is going to
- 4:57Speaker 2: pan out for the Cardinals, I don't see them trading
- 4:59Speaker 2: Eric Fetty.
- 5:00Speaker 1: He's making seven point five million dollars. That is a steal.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It's a downright steal for a middle rotation guy. Is
- 5:05Speaker 2: Eric Betty gonna be an ace?
- 5:07Speaker 1: No?
- 5:07Speaker 2: Is he going to be a serviceable major league starting
- 5:10Speaker 2: pitcher on almost any rotation that's not the Dodgers or
- 5:13Speaker 2: the Phillies. Yes, and that he's being paid seven point
- 5:15Speaker 2: five million dollars. The Cardinals are not going to trade that,
- 5:18Speaker 2: you know, for multitude of reasons currently, but the biggest
- 5:23Speaker 2: one being they really don't have a lot of depth
- 5:26Speaker 2: outside the names we just mentioned, and that's not including
- 5:29Speaker 2: Matthew libertoor who could still be used as a reliever
- 5:31Speaker 2: similar to last year, they're just also considering him in
- 5:34Speaker 2: the starting role. If Camp broke today, the five that
- 5:38Speaker 2: I think the Cardinals would go with are Sunny Gray,
- 5:41Speaker 2: Eric Fetty, Miles Michaelis, Andre Polante, Stephen Mattz. Now, before
- 5:45Speaker 2: you start booing me, just hear me out and let
- 5:48Speaker 2: me also clarify that's not the five I would go with,
- 5:50Speaker 2: But coming from just the conversations that I've had in
- 5:53Speaker 2: camp and talking to multiple people in the organization, if
- 5:56Speaker 2: Camp broke today, that's what I think they would end
- 5:58Speaker 2: up doing.
- 6:00Speaker 1: The Cardinals.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Again, let's go back to the depth thing. If you
- 6:03Speaker 2: look at their pictures in Triple A. If it's not
- 6:07Speaker 2: Mike McGreevy and Triple A, who's ready, Who's major lely
- 6:11Speaker 2: ready right now? Sema Versa not really. Quinn Matthews is
- 6:15Speaker 2: a guy, but he's not ready for the big leagues.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Tank Hens is not ready for the big leagues. To
- 6:18Speaker 2: Cole Roby looks great, but he has not posted more
- 6:21Speaker 2: than forty innings in the last two years. He's had
- 6:23Speaker 2: back to back injury seasons in the last two years.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Staying healthy is going to be the top priority for him.
- 6:28Speaker 2: And what you do not want to do, what the
- 6:30Speaker 2: Cardinals have done for a very long time, is rush
- 6:33Speaker 2: these young pictures up to the majors when they're not ready,
- 6:35Speaker 2: because these guys are going to be instrumental in this
- 6:38Speaker 2: transition period. So as much as I don't don't like this,
- 6:42Speaker 2: I'm a Michael McGreevey Stan. I think he's looked great
- 6:44Speaker 2: this spring. I think he deserves a chance to compete
- 6:47Speaker 2: in the starting five.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm with you. I think he would.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Start in Triple A now is he going to be
- 6:53Speaker 2: the first one up out of if there's ever an injury?
- 6:57Speaker 2: Injuries are unfortunate, but they aren't inevitable like they're going
- 7:00Speaker 2: to happen. Yeah, I think we seem agree to you immediately.
- 7:03Speaker 2: But if the Cardinals don't have Matts in the rotation,
- 7:05Speaker 2: he goes to relief because you can't send him down,
- 7:08Speaker 2: and now all of a sudden, you're short that very
- 7:10Speaker 2: critical triple A depth. That's where I'm out starting five.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It's not a popular answer. Fans aren't gonna like it,
- 7:17Speaker 2: but I think from an organization standpoint, it's probably what
- 7:20Speaker 2: you have to do to ensure that you actually have
- 7:22Speaker 2: people that are going to cover those innings, especially with
- 7:24Speaker 2: Drew Rahm and Zach Thompson down with injuries right now.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I think, Uh, when I'm listening to you talk,
- 7:29Speaker 4: I mean, it's like even I don't even think it's
- 7:32Speaker 4: so much like the dog days or the monotony of
- 7:33Speaker 4: spring training at this point. I think for fans it's
- 7:36Speaker 4: almost like, all right, let's rip this band aid off,
- 7:39Speaker 4: Like let's let's get this season going. And uh, we
- 7:42Speaker 4: know there's a lot of questions, but let's just let's
- 7:45Speaker 4: just get it over with, you know. We want to
- 7:48Speaker 4: all these questions the the runway, the transition, whatever it is.
- 7:53Speaker 4: How who's going to get the work in uh and
- 7:56Speaker 4: who who are you know? When are we going to
- 7:58Speaker 4: see what we got? We just kind I don't want
- 8:00Speaker 4: to get it rolling. But of course we've got a
- 8:01Speaker 4: few more weeks. The starting pitchers, in particular, if only
- 8:04Speaker 4: thrown what three out or three innings max so far?
- 8:07Speaker 4: So they still they still need a couple.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they need some time to get built up to
- 8:11Speaker 3: that five to six inning mark.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I think we'll see Miles who pitches up Wednesday, he'll
- 8:15Speaker 2: he'll hit five, and Matt's slid to go Thursday he'll
- 8:18Speaker 2: hit five as well. Polante, I believe is the Friday
- 8:21Speaker 2: night game in Port Saint Luci and mcgreeby coming in
- 8:24Speaker 2: behind him, but still very much a competition. What I
- 8:27Speaker 2: just said, those five names could change Matthew Libertor again
- 8:31Speaker 2: the stuff goes up. So I had some conversations about
- 8:34Speaker 2: why Libby was stretched out as a starter, given how
- 8:36Speaker 2: successful he was as a reliever last year, and it
- 8:39Speaker 2: made sense from the obvious standpoints. It's easier to cut
- 8:42Speaker 2: innings back rather than ramp them up in a short
- 8:44Speaker 2: period of time. That's a recipe for injury. Can't have
- 8:46Speaker 2: that with someone as valuable as Matthew Libertor. The Cardinals
- 8:49Speaker 2: also found out and figured out in conversations with him
- 8:52Speaker 2: that Libertor likes to be stretched out this spring or
- 8:55Speaker 2: in spring because it allows him to have better feel
- 8:58Speaker 2: for his pitches, uses arsenal more and he feels like
- 9:00Speaker 2: he's more effective to start the year because he's had
- 9:03Speaker 2: more opportunities to throw the ball. Obviously, as a starting pitcher,
- 9:06Speaker 2: you're going to have more innings than a relief pitcher
- 9:08Speaker 2: in spring training. So it was kind of a twofold thing,
- 9:10Speaker 2: but both parties didn't really expect to see, at least
- 9:13Speaker 2: to this degree, was just how much Libby stuff has
- 9:16Speaker 2: played up this year.
- 9:17Speaker 1: He looks like a really convinced, commanding pitcher and.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Maybe that stems from the season he had in twenty
- 9:23Speaker 2: four and building off that confidence. But I mean, he
- 9:27Speaker 2: has been lights out. He got roughed up a little
- 9:29Speaker 2: bit yesterday, but you know, Mac Libatorre is not a
- 9:32Speaker 2: guy that really gives up that many consecutive ground balls,
- 9:35Speaker 2: So it wasn't like repuatability if that aspect is not
- 9:37Speaker 2: a concern at least to me.
- 9:39Speaker 1: So he's forcing a difficult conversation.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Do I ultimately think that the Cardinals are probably going
- 9:44Speaker 2: to put him back in the bullpen. Yes, but I
- 9:47Speaker 2: can also see them wayne what we just talked about
- 9:50Speaker 2: with the depth and the McGreevy thing. If yeah, if
- 9:52Speaker 2: you have McGreevy, let's say, in Triple A, but nobody
- 9:54Speaker 2: behind him, do you need to think about a team
- 9:57Speaker 2: like the Milwaukee Brewers who were decimated injuries. The Los
- 10:00Speaker 2: Angeles daughter is decimated by pitching injuries, but they consistently
- 10:04Speaker 2: had people in the tank ready to go. The Cardinals
- 10:06Speaker 2: have not had that for years and they still don't
- 10:09Speaker 2: have that now. They're trying to fix that, but this
- 10:12Speaker 2: is something that's going to take I think years to
- 10:14Speaker 2: really come to fruition. So that's another thing to consider
- 10:16Speaker 2: with libertor is. Yeah, he's earned every right to be
- 10:18Speaker 2: on the major league roster. He, in my opinion, is
- 10:21Speaker 2: someone that is valuable that you build around your opening
- 10:24Speaker 2: day roster.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Absolutely, But do.
- 10:26Speaker 2: The Cardinals need to protect themselves and make some hard
- 10:28Speaker 2: decision when it comes to Triple A depth?
- 10:30Speaker 1: I think that's the bigger conversation here.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Yeah, there's pitching is so important, there's no I mean,
- 10:36Speaker 4: we've seen it this spring training. A lot of injuries.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Cardinals been fortunate, not too many on the pitching side
- 10:44Speaker 4: so far, so knock on wood, keep that going. But yeah,
- 10:47Speaker 4: you can never have too much pitching, and when it's
- 10:49Speaker 4: limited to begin with, you got to be.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Really careful about who you're shipping out. I mean, there
- 10:52Speaker 3: are some guys, right, like, there's some free agents still
- 10:55Speaker 3: out there. What do you think.
- 10:57Speaker 4: I mean, I'm surprised, like Kyle Gibson, Lancelen these guys
- 11:00Speaker 4: haven't signed.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Oh one of them has to be a Yankee any
- 11:03Speaker 2: day now, right. I mean, look, Cardinals fans, it could
- 11:06Speaker 2: be worse. You could have had a week like the
- 11:07Speaker 2: New York Yankees. Just that is brutal.
- 11:09Speaker 1: I mean, Garrett Cole news, that just sucks. You hate
- 11:11Speaker 1: to see that, You hate to see it.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a weird time in Cardinals camp. And something
- 11:18Speaker 2: to remember myself included when we're projecting this openated roster
- 11:21Speaker 2: for this transition period, is that what's going on in
- 11:24Speaker 2: TRIPAA matters just as much with the big league club.
- 11:27Speaker 1: So that's that's fun.
- 11:29Speaker 2: That's also going to matter when we look when the
- 11:31Speaker 2: Cardinals look at planning their bullpen, which this is your
- 11:35Speaker 2: bread and butter, Trevor.
- 11:36Speaker 1: You know all about relief pitchers. Who's in, Who's out.
- 11:39Speaker 1: The Cardinals bullpen last year was one of the best
- 11:42Speaker 1: in baseball. They were super effective.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I think the Cardinals played in one hundred and seven
- 11:46Speaker 2: games out of one hundred and sixty two that were
- 11:48Speaker 2: decided by three runs or fewer, and they had a
- 11:50Speaker 2: winning percentage of five to sixty one percent in those games.
- 11:54Speaker 1: That was the second best market all of baseball.
- 11:56Speaker 2: The reason they were able to do that was because
- 11:58Speaker 2: they had a lockdown latter half of that bullpen. You're
- 12:02Speaker 2: thinking about Jojo Romero, Andrew Kittridge, Ryan Helsley, of course,
- 12:05Speaker 2: and then guys like libertore and Ryan Fernandez stepping up
- 12:07Speaker 2: and shining in those key roles in the mid innings.
- 12:11Speaker 2: The Cardinals are now tasked with replicating that same success
- 12:14Speaker 2: last year minus Kittridge, which is a pretty significant blow,
- 12:18Speaker 2: and they're going to do that all internally. So let's
- 12:22Speaker 2: go through who's definitely in the bullpen. Ryan Hel's us
- 12:25Speaker 2: a closer. We know that Jojo Romero is going to
- 12:27Speaker 2: return to the setup man role from the left hand side.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Ryan Fernandez is under consideration for the setup man role.
- 12:33Speaker 2: His exact role has yet to be determined, but he's
- 12:35Speaker 2: going to be in the bullpen. John King he'll be
- 12:37Speaker 2: in there as well. That's a guy where you know,
- 12:40Speaker 2: everyone has a role. You need a guy that can
- 12:42Speaker 2: come in if you're down two in the seventh innen
- 12:46Speaker 2: and keep you down to and John King has proven
- 12:49Speaker 2: that he can do that again and again. So those
- 12:50Speaker 2: are four out of eight. Matthew Libertor again, maybe he's
- 12:54Speaker 2: in there, maybe he's not. So there are let's say
- 12:57Speaker 2: three to four spots up for grabs from for the bullpen,
- 13:01Speaker 2: and there are six right handers kind of all in
- 13:04Speaker 2: one unit that the Cardinals are looking at. We'll go, well,
- 13:06Speaker 2: let's name him Gordon and grissefo Nick Anderson, Rodery Munoz,
- 13:11Speaker 2: Chris Roycroft, Riley O'Brien, and Kyle Lahey. This is a
- 13:15Speaker 2: very competitive area of the roster. It's going to come
- 13:18Speaker 2: down to performance. Allie Marmal said it today. I was
- 13:20Speaker 2: talking to him pregame. He said, performance matters, effectiveness matters.
- 13:23Speaker 2: We're going to be evaluating on if guys are getting
- 13:25Speaker 2: out the way they're supposed to. If you're a ground
- 13:28Speaker 2: ball guy, are you getting the balls on the ground
- 13:29Speaker 2: if you're a swinging miss guy, are you missing bats?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Performance is going to matter in this element of roster
- 13:34Speaker 2: making decision more than anything. Trevor, what's you read on
- 13:38Speaker 2: the bullpen right now?
- 13:39Speaker 1: Well?
- 13:39Speaker 3: You said group of right here? Nick Anderson's lefty? Correct?
- 13:43Speaker 1: No, that thing he's right handed.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Oh he's right handed. Oh my bad, I'm why I
- 13:46Speaker 4: have to take it.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Well.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Shout out to Ryan Helsley. Katie, we missed you on
- 13:50Speaker 3: the last episode. We took over right now.
- 13:52Speaker 4: Everybody loves Katie wou but shot, he's a stud that
- 13:55Speaker 4: was so fun to get a I thought, I thought
- 13:57Speaker 4: he did a great job and gave us a little
- 13:59Speaker 4: bit of an inside to to who he is, the
- 14:01Speaker 4: guy behind the intimidating walkout song and the lights flashing.
- 14:05Speaker 3: But I mean it's tough.
- 14:08Speaker 4: I mentioned Nick Anderson because I think he's a guy
- 14:12Speaker 4: he's done.
- 14:13Speaker 3: He's done pretty good this spring.
- 14:14Speaker 4: His last outing was was really nice, and I think
- 14:18Speaker 4: he just brings a level of veterans stability.
- 14:21Speaker 3: I you know, I'm speaking from experience.
- 14:23Speaker 4: It's it was always nice when you had a guy
- 14:25Speaker 4: that had been around to come in and be a
- 14:28Speaker 4: part of that squad, especially early in the season, and
- 14:30Speaker 4: a lot of these other guys are young, and I
- 14:32Speaker 4: think keeping him in the mix brings a level of
- 14:36Speaker 4: of just confidence, confidence experience to that to that unit.
- 14:39Speaker 4: So I would I have to strongly consider him. Who
- 14:42Speaker 4: that ends up leaving out? I'm not sure. I Mean,
- 14:44Speaker 4: the good thing about this bullpen in general is that
- 14:48Speaker 4: outside of really like Jojo Romero and Ryan Helsley, everybody
- 14:51Speaker 4: has options. So everybody, you know, we can move around
- 14:54Speaker 4: a lot of pieces. What what are you thinking as
- 14:57Speaker 4: as I'm kind of talking about Anderson? I mean, what's
- 15:01Speaker 4: your opinion on that? How do you see that playing
- 15:03Speaker 4: into this decision?
- 15:05Speaker 2: Anderson is a big one for me because it's not
- 15:07Speaker 2: just about how he profiles in with this club. And
- 15:10Speaker 2: I totally agree with you about the veteran presence, and
- 15:12Speaker 2: that's something that John Mozelock has had an affinity for
- 15:14Speaker 2: in years past. He likes the guy that's been through
- 15:17Speaker 2: some adversity can be that veteran component next to Hellsley.
- 15:20Speaker 2: We talked about this with maybe Stephen Mattz, right, but
- 15:23Speaker 2: Nick Anderson is going to be under consideration for contractual issues,
- 15:27Speaker 2: not issues, but things to consider as well.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He has what's called I just learned this phrase.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Today, upward mobility clause.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yes, it is a very rare thing when you're talking
- 15:38Speaker 2: about minor league contracts. Essentially, it's a clause in your
- 15:42Speaker 2: contract that allows you to continue negotiating and talking with
- 15:45Speaker 2: other teams for another spot on their major league roster.
- 15:49Speaker 2: So if the Cardinals don't have Nick Anderson on their
- 15:51Speaker 2: major league roster, they're most likely going to lose him.
- 15:54Speaker 2: If he does make the major league roster, he's a
- 15:56Speaker 2: non roster invite, so that's going to cost you a
- 15:57Speaker 2: forty man spot, and he's going to make one point
- 15:59Speaker 2: one million dollars. Now that's not a lot of money
- 16:02Speaker 2: in baseball Land, but the Cardinals haven't spent it all,
- 16:05Speaker 2: so we have to keep that in perspective too. That's
- 16:07Speaker 2: one thing to consider with Nick Anderson. But if I'm
- 16:10Speaker 2: looking at the group as a whole, who has stood
- 16:12Speaker 2: out to me from a performance standpoint, there is one
- 16:14Speaker 2: guy clear in a way that separated himself from that pack,
- 16:17Speaker 2: and that's Chris Roycroft. He has looked really good this
- 16:20Speaker 2: spring Salmon Sunday against the Yankees. Two punch outs, three
- 16:23Speaker 2: punch outs, excuse.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Me, looked really good. The stuff is up.
- 16:27Speaker 2: He has more similar with Liberatoire, really more confidence, more control.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And he's been a name that people are excited about.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I could see penciling him in that opening day rotation
- 16:36Speaker 2: or a fullpen excuse me, if it's Franda today, I
- 16:39Speaker 2: think he'd be right in there. I would love to
- 16:41Speaker 2: see what Gordon Gricefo looks like as a true reliever.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Some of it is going to be depth, you know,
- 16:47Speaker 2: could they do they need more depth than triple A.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I don't really know if they're looking at Gricepho for that,
- 16:51Speaker 2: but it's something they have to consider. They think his
- 16:54Speaker 2: stuff is going to play up more in shorter stints.
- 16:56Speaker 2: The velo has, the command has. What has not gone
- 16:58Speaker 2: well for Grosefo is the results in the box score. Now,
- 17:01Speaker 2: spring training stats are spring training stats, and a lot
- 17:04Speaker 2: of times guys are working on sequences, they're throwing pitches
- 17:07Speaker 2: in ways that they would not do. So you know this, Trevor, like,
- 17:11Speaker 2: how many times in spring did you just go out
- 17:12Speaker 2: with a ridiculous sequence just because you were trying to
- 17:14Speaker 2: get all the fields for your pitches.
- 17:17Speaker 4: Yeah it's yeah, it's a fun time to try things out.
- 17:20Speaker 4: But I mean, I think I like grise Efo. I
- 17:24Speaker 4: think he looks really good and the biggest thing that
- 17:27Speaker 4: I like about about him is, yeah, the box score
- 17:30Speaker 4: hasn't been great. He's you know, giving up some some
- 17:33Speaker 4: hard hit balls. Some hits have fallen. He's given up
- 17:35Speaker 4: some runs, but he he's not far away like it's
- 17:39Speaker 4: not like he's not commanding the zone and putting guys
- 17:42Speaker 4: on base, giving free passes all the time.
- 17:45Speaker 3: So he and he's got great stuff.
- 17:47Speaker 4: I would like to see him get an opportunity to start,
- 17:49Speaker 4: But I agree Roycroft has looked excellent as well, and
- 17:52Speaker 4: that might those two guys.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Might edge out my guy, my guy O'Brien. I'm not sure.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I mean, I'm still high on him, but with the
- 18:00Speaker 4: competitiveness that we're having in camp, it might be hard
- 18:02Speaker 4: for him to break in to the roster to begin
- 18:04Speaker 4: the season.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah, we haven't really seen o brian in a lot
- 18:07Speaker 1: of games lately, so they got to get him in there.
- 18:08Speaker 2: We got to keep him fresh. Another guy that we're
- 18:10Speaker 2: not talking about enough. Every spring there's a reliever that
- 18:14Speaker 2: comes in out of nowhere that no one is really
- 18:15Speaker 2: paying attention to, and all of a sudden, we're talking
- 18:17Speaker 2: about that's Roger Munios.
- 18:19Speaker 1: He did not farewell on Tuesday.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Two homers at Roger Dean not a good day for
- 18:22Speaker 2: the pitching staff for the same as Cardinals.
- 18:25Speaker 1: But he's a big arm.
- 18:27Speaker 2: He was a starter for Miami last year, and the
- 18:29Speaker 2: Cardinals are really intrigued with what he can do with
- 18:32Speaker 2: a you know, a shorter window, shorter innings.
- 18:35Speaker 1: He has a six pitch arsenal.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Now the key is using that arsenal as a reliever
- 18:39Speaker 2: instead of a starter, which means finding your two or
- 18:41Speaker 2: three pitches that are your strongest, using them more, and
- 18:44Speaker 2: mixing in your secondary pitches when necessary to keep hitters
- 18:47Speaker 2: off balanced. So that's they're working on pitch mix along
- 18:50Speaker 2: with just trying to learn this new arm as well.
- 18:52Speaker 2: I don't necessarily see think that he'll make the opening
- 18:54Speaker 2: day roster, but he's definitely someone that I expect to
- 18:57Speaker 2: impact the big league club at some point this year.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I think lay he is a sneaky pick to crack
- 19:01Speaker 2: this roster as well. He has pitches from both sides,
- 19:04Speaker 2: like he can get right handers left handers out.
- 19:06Speaker 1: He's not super splitty.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I actually think he pitched better against lefties last year,
- 19:10Speaker 2: and he added a sinker. He's really adaptable to game situations,
- 19:15Speaker 2: and I think you need a guy like Lahy from
- 19:17Speaker 2: the right side, similar to what King did, keep games
- 19:19Speaker 2: that you're losing in control. If there's a big difference
- 19:23Speaker 2: between being down two and the six being down four
- 19:25Speaker 2: in the eighth, So you need guys that aren't necessarily
- 19:27Speaker 2: high leverage guys to be in the lower half of
- 19:30Speaker 2: the bullpen. But their role is just as important.
- 19:33Speaker 3: There one hundred percent.
- 19:34Speaker 4: So I mean, from what I hear hearing you say,
- 19:36Speaker 4: you're going to go ahead and pencil and Roycroft probably
- 19:39Speaker 4: pencil in Lahy, and.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I think maybe Gersepho and Anderson.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Yeah, Gersephone Anderson, but that'd be nine right if.
- 19:48Speaker 3: We have liberatory, I mean have to be one of
- 19:52Speaker 3: the two.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Yeah, So it kind of come down between Gersepho Anderson.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Yep.
- 19:58Speaker 3: That's a tough one.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Tough.
- 20:00Speaker 2: That's why these decisions performances are really going to impact
- 20:03Speaker 2: a lot.
- 20:03Speaker 1: But you are right what you said about the options.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Roy Croft and I believe O'Brien have to don't pullt
- 20:11Speaker 1: me on that one.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I know Roquat has two. Everyone else has one, including
- 20:13Speaker 2: John King, So there is some flexibility there. Bullpens are
- 20:16Speaker 2: always kind of a carousel, revolving door. I expect the
- 20:19Speaker 2: Cardinals to use that to their strength. The only one
- 20:21Speaker 2: with limitations, like we said, is Anderson.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I thought Minos was a nice pickup from Miami. Miami
- 20:27Speaker 4: must have had something on it today to I mean,
- 20:30Speaker 4: they gave him up and then they're just I mean
- 20:32Speaker 4: he's throwing fuzzballs, he's a big body, and they're just
- 20:38Speaker 4: they had no problem pitting it over the fence.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I don't know what was going on there.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I do wonder why the Marlins didn't try him in
- 20:43Speaker 2: relief either. I mean, they're not really doing much of
- 20:47Speaker 2: anything so much. What could have hurt to try. That's
- 20:50Speaker 2: kind of a weird thing for him to just be
- 20:52Speaker 2: on waivers. So we'll see the Cardinals think they found
- 20:55Speaker 2: something there. I do know that from a pitching standpoint,
- 20:57Speaker 2: it's going to be an incredibly competitive I think there
- 21:00Speaker 2: are thirteen games on the dock at starting Wednesday, including
- 21:05Speaker 2: the one a Membus, so there is time. You'll see
- 21:07Speaker 2: these guys probably one or two more times, and then
- 21:09Speaker 2: big decisions to be made.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Before March twenty seventh. We got one more thing to.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Talk about But before I forget, let's hear from Arena
- 21:16Speaker 2: Club ft FAM.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Arena Club is the modern way to collect cards or
- 21:21Speaker 5: buy or sell or trade or even grade. And we're
- 21:24Speaker 5: highlighting slab packs because this is the new way to
- 21:27Speaker 5: rip open a pack and get a really good card.
- 21:29Speaker 5: Aj But also if you're not into the card, like
- 21:32Speaker 5: I know you pulled a Bob Gibson card recently, you
- 21:34Speaker 5: can get an offer of ninety percent of the estimated
- 21:36Speaker 5: value and just accept it on the spot and give
- 21:39Speaker 5: it right back and maybe try again with another slab pack.
- 21:43Speaker 6: I ain't getting rid of my Bob Gibson autograph card.
- 21:45Speaker 6: Bob Gibson ain't card signing cards anytime soon, so I'm
- 21:47Speaker 6: keeping this one. It gets graded for you. There's no mess.
- 21:50Speaker 6: The only thing I wish they had bubblegum. Can they
- 21:53Speaker 6: virtually send me some bubble gumps cut Other than that,
- 21:55Speaker 6: it's awesome. You can buy sell cards, they grate them
- 21:58Speaker 6: instantly for you in physic you can also get the
- 22:00Speaker 6: cards if you want them, So I'm all for this.
- 22:03Speaker 6: This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.
- 22:04Speaker 5: Yeah, those cards are in your showroom in the app,
- 22:07Speaker 5: and then of course you can get the card physically
- 22:09Speaker 5: sent to you. So right now, you can get twenty
- 22:10Speaker 5: percent off your first slab pack or card purchase by
- 22:13Speaker 5: going to Arena club dot com slash foul. That's arenaclub
- 22:17Speaker 5: dot com slash foul code foul for twenty percent off
- 22:19Speaker 5: your first purchase.
- 22:22Speaker 1: All right, last topic of the day.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Over the weekend, I caught up with an old friend
- 22:27Speaker 2: Number four good to hear from Yachtier Molina, who is
- 22:31Speaker 2: living his best life as a baseball dad. Most notably,
- 22:36Speaker 2: Molina was hired at the winter meetings in twenty twenty
- 22:39Speaker 2: three to be a special advisor to the team in
- 22:41Speaker 2: twenty twenty four under JOm Mozilok, and then he did
- 22:43Speaker 2: not show up to a single Cardinals event in twenty
- 22:45Speaker 2: twenty four, leading fans to wonder where the heck is
- 22:49Speaker 2: YACHTI So I think Yachty understood why there was some
- 22:52Speaker 2: fan concern and honestly some fan frustration about him not
- 22:56Speaker 2: showing up. He was supposed to under his role come
- 22:58Speaker 2: to spring training mentor some of the young cat He
- 23:00Speaker 2: didn't do that last year. He's not going to make
- 23:02Speaker 2: the spring training this year. His rationale this year, though,
- 23:05Speaker 2: I think we can understand. His son, Yanu, is sixteen
- 23:08Speaker 2: years old. He's uncommitted playing high school baseball in his
- 23:11Speaker 2: junior season in Austin, Texas. Yati actually moved his family,
- 23:15Speaker 2: his wife, Wanda, and their three children from Puerto Rico
- 23:18Speaker 2: to Austin because it was just a better opportunity for
- 23:21Speaker 2: Yanu to play baseball. And he's in the crowd every
- 23:25Speaker 2: single game Thursday through Sunday. You cannot reach him. He
- 23:27Speaker 2: is locked in on Yanu.
- 23:31Speaker 1: But he did say in.
- 23:32Speaker 2: This conversation was about thirty minutes long, he said that
- 23:35Speaker 2: just because he's having so much fun as a baseball dad,
- 23:38Speaker 2: he's still thinking about Saint Louis all the time, and
- 23:40Speaker 2: he wants to come back to the city when the
- 23:42Speaker 2: time is right. He wants to be there at events.
- 23:44Speaker 2: He wants to mentor, he wants to coach, and of
- 23:47Speaker 2: course Trevor, he still wants to manage. You can read
- 23:50Speaker 2: the story, the full story on the Athletic. He's not
- 23:54Speaker 2: the first cardinal. The former cardinal in the last weeks
- 23:59Speaker 2: or so to express an interest in managing Albert Poohles.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Of course, a great article by Bob NINEE. Gill and
- 24:05Speaker 2: USA Today about Pools will manage the World Baseball Classic,
- 24:09Speaker 2: the Dominican Republic team, and how he wants to be
- 24:12Speaker 2: a major league manager as well. Skip Schumacher, friend of ours,
- 24:16Speaker 2: just finished up two years managing the Miami Marlins. He's
- 24:19Speaker 2: a special assistant with the Texas Rangers now, but would
- 24:21Speaker 2: certainly be open to managing again. There are no shortage
- 24:25Speaker 2: of impactful former Cardinals that would like to be managers someday,
- 24:30Speaker 2: and I don't want to speculate on what it means
- 24:31Speaker 2: for the state of the Saint Louis Cardinals currently because
- 24:33Speaker 2: that's not fair to Allie Marmel.
- 24:35Speaker 1: We don't know what that future holds.
- 24:36Speaker 2: There are no openings in Major League Baseball right now
- 24:38Speaker 2: from a managerial a position, But should one arise, who
- 24:42Speaker 2: is your pick to be the first of those three
- 24:46Speaker 2: to manage another team?
- 24:48Speaker 3: Can I throw my hat in the mix?
- 24:50Speaker 2: Here?
- 24:51Speaker 3: Have all these four more Cardinals?
- 24:53Speaker 4: I don't belong in the conversation with Pool, Hools and
- 24:56Speaker 4: Yati Yachti's I mean the fans gonna advocate for YadA
- 25:01Speaker 4: YadA here.
- 25:01Speaker 3: I mean the guy has given how many decades of
- 25:03Speaker 3: his life to Saint Louis Cardinals. I mean that's a lot,
- 25:06Speaker 3: that's a long time.
- 25:07Speaker 4: And I know from experience, this guy he was the
- 25:09Speaker 4: first one, that first one to show up, last one
- 25:11Speaker 4: to leave. And on top of that, like YadA, is
- 25:14Speaker 4: just one of the most, if not the most intelligent
- 25:17Speaker 4: baseball person that I've been around. Like he sees things
- 25:19Speaker 4: in the game that nobody else sees. So whenever, whatever
- 25:23Speaker 4: he's interested in, I think he's gonna get the opportunity.
- 25:26Speaker 4: If you put him in a room in an interview, uh,
- 25:29Speaker 4: you're gonna be impressed. Like this guy, he's a baseball
- 25:32Speaker 4: guy through and through. But good for him spending time
- 25:33Speaker 4: with his family. I mean, he his.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Family deserves it. He deserves it. Let him, let him,
- 25:38Speaker 3: you know, do what he wants to do at his
- 25:39Speaker 3: own pace.
- 25:39Speaker 4: And he I know, he loves Saint Louis and should
- 25:43Speaker 4: the opportunity, the right timing come available, he'll be there
- 25:47Speaker 4: without without a question.
- 25:50Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Well, I was too too busy. What was
- 25:52Speaker 3: your question? Katie was too busy talking about my my
- 25:55Speaker 3: favorite person in a baseball uniform.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Who's your pick? I mean, personally, I don't I don't
- 26:01Speaker 1: know who I would choose.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Like they're all great candidates. Between YACHTI, Albert and Skip
- 26:07Speaker 2: like to.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Manage to manage anywhere.
- 26:10Speaker 4: Yes, I mean well I would if I had If
- 26:14Speaker 4: I was like to bet, I would say Skip, we
- 26:16Speaker 4: would see Skip in a managerial role before anybody, because
- 26:19Speaker 4: he's already done it.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Uh.
- 26:22Speaker 4: He continues to put himself in positions I mean, senior advisor,
- 26:25Speaker 4: special assistant at the Texas Rangers. I mean he's if
- 26:29Speaker 4: you kind of read into that with with with with
- 26:32Speaker 4: Bocie potentially phasing out at some point in the near future,
- 26:38Speaker 4: he could he could fill a role there, so he's,
- 26:40Speaker 4: you know, continue to keep himself in the mixing. From
- 26:42Speaker 4: what I've heard and from from me being friends with Skipping,
- 26:45Speaker 4: he's an amazing person, uh, and a baseball genius as well,
- 26:49Speaker 4: and and.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Players love to play for him.
- 26:51Speaker 4: So if I, if I had a bet, I would guess,
- 26:54Speaker 4: I mean, Skip would would be my highly my highest
- 26:58Speaker 4: pick to fill into man a jerial role when it
- 27:00Speaker 4: would come available. But yeah, I don't think Galli's gonna
- 27:05Speaker 4: be getting out of Saint Louis anytime soon, so how
- 27:08Speaker 4: that plays out, I'm not sure. Can't say enough good
- 27:11Speaker 4: things about Albert. He's an amazing, incredible person. He's one
- 27:15Speaker 4: of the easiest guys to get along with. We were
- 27:18Speaker 4: never teammates, but based on all my interactions with him,
- 27:22Speaker 4: you would think that we were best friends and that
- 27:23Speaker 4: we were teammates for his entire career. He's just a
- 27:26Speaker 4: very charismatic and personable person, and I think he would
- 27:30Speaker 4: he would also do great in that role, especially from
- 27:33Speaker 4: a pr standpoint.
- 27:34Speaker 3: So I don't know what do you got, Katie.
- 27:36Speaker 1: It's really hard for me to decide.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I mean, I first met Skip Schumacher when I was
- 27:40Speaker 2: in an intern fresh out of college and he was
- 27:43Speaker 2: with the San Diego Padres where I was assigned, and
- 27:45Speaker 2: he was like the first person with a like a
- 27:48Speaker 2: title in baseball that maybe said hi to me or
- 27:51Speaker 2: I knew my name.
- 27:52Speaker 1: So I always appreciated that.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I loved working with him when he was a bench
- 27:55Speaker 2: coach here in Saint Louis in twenty twenty two.
- 27:58Speaker 1: He's a guy that just gets it.
- 27:59Speaker 2: And I remember to the Marlins clubhouse around this time
- 28:01Speaker 2: last year after their twenty twenty three campaign, where you know,
- 28:05Speaker 2: the Marlins went, I expected to do much of anything,
- 28:07Speaker 2: and they every player I talked to credited Skip Schumacher
- 28:10Speaker 2: for turning that clubhouse around. He won Manager of the
- 28:12Speaker 2: Year that year for a reason. Clearly knows how to
- 28:15Speaker 2: resonate with his guys. I saw it in Saint Louis
- 28:18Speaker 2: see his former teammates, and he saw what he did
- 28:20Speaker 2: with Miami, So you can't go wrong with Skip Schumacher
- 28:24Speaker 2: no matter what you do. I covered the World Baseball
- 28:26Speaker 2: Classic in twenty twenty three as well. I covered Team
- 28:29Speaker 2: Puerto Rico, where Yati Amlina was a was managing and
- 28:34Speaker 2: the way that he made game time decisions and scouted
- 28:38Speaker 2: the other team. I mean I saw him put on
- 28:41Speaker 2: hit and run with Martin Maldonado their nine hitter, and
- 28:44Speaker 2: it led to a four run rally and they won
- 28:47Speaker 2: the game and they were trailing like six three at
- 28:49Speaker 2: the time. I can't remember the exact score, but that decision,
- 28:52Speaker 2: which nobody expected and everyone was kind of just like
- 28:54Speaker 2: what single handedly sparked a rally and they won the game.
- 28:57Speaker 1: We asked him postgame.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Why he did it, and he looked in the microphone
- 29:01Speaker 2: he said, because I felt like it.
- 29:03Speaker 1: It was just it was so good. He then gave
- 29:05Speaker 1: out like a real answer.
- 29:08Speaker 2: But that kind of knowledge is just something that is
- 29:10Speaker 2: It's why Yachti is so respected throughout the game. He
- 29:13Speaker 2: just sees the game differently. He's managed in the Winter
- 29:17Speaker 2: Leagues for the last three years with three different organizations,
- 29:20Speaker 2: just because he likes the ability to learn new things.
- 29:22Speaker 2: He also said it's only a two and a half
- 29:24Speaker 2: month season, so it's easier for his wife to understand
- 29:27Speaker 2: him being gone again. And I think Yachti Amlina of course,
- 29:31Speaker 2: would be a good manager. His knowledge of the game.
- 29:34Speaker 2: His understanding of the game is second to none. Albert
- 29:37Speaker 2: Pools can't say enough good things about him. The way
- 29:40Speaker 2: that he I don't want to say commands respect because
- 29:44Speaker 2: he doesn't really like. He doesn't like say give it
- 29:47Speaker 2: to me. He just when you walk in you do
- 29:49Speaker 2: do it because it's Albert Pools, and people will resonate
- 29:53Speaker 2: with that. He obviously sees the game very well, knows
- 29:55Speaker 2: how to talk to people. I remember in twenty twenty
- 29:57Speaker 2: two coming in the clubhouse and he's sitting with a
- 29:59Speaker 2: different place every day, giving them their time a bad day,
- 30:04Speaker 2: good game, family life. He had something to say that
- 30:07Speaker 2: resonated with people.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So I have no idea who's going to go first.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I have no idea where it would be they are
- 30:13Speaker 2: only thirty positions no matter how you slice it, and
- 30:17Speaker 2: it's always a tough decision in terms of candidates.
- 30:19Speaker 1: But I don't know. I have no.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Idea, and I do think though I wonder, because this
- 30:25Speaker 2: is a question, I get a lot. If any of
- 30:28Speaker 2: those three came back one day and managed the Saint
- 30:30Speaker 2: Louis Cardinals, and the Cardinals themselves were not a good team,
- 30:34Speaker 2: how would that impact their legacy or would it at all?
- 30:38Speaker 4: I don't think it could at this but there are
- 30:40Speaker 4: such incredible players. I don't think it could affect their
- 30:45Speaker 4: legacy per se, and I don't think the team could
- 30:48Speaker 4: be bad under them. I mean Saint Louis Cardinals iconic organization.
- 30:52Speaker 4: I mean this year put an asterisk. By twenty twenty five,
- 30:57Speaker 4: we'll see. I mean, we want to surprise people right
- 31:00Speaker 4: to get going here.
- 31:01Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 31:04Speaker 4: I don't I think it would be hard to taint
- 31:05Speaker 4: these guys. I mean, listen to you talk about me
- 31:08Speaker 4: reminiscing on all all my experiences with these guys. I mean,
- 31:11Speaker 4: I can't speak highly enough about each and every one
- 31:13Speaker 4: of them. I'm sure as soon as an opportunity comes available,
- 31:17Speaker 4: they will fill right in Can you imagine a three
- 31:20Speaker 4: headed monster YACHTI, Albert, and Skip all in the same place.
- 31:23Speaker 3: I mean, don't let that happen. Maybe a dynasty right there.
- 31:26Speaker 2: You got descalso and Jay just kind of hanging out.
- 31:29Speaker 2: That would be an ideal situation. Just from a writer's standpoint,
- 31:33Speaker 2: that'd be so much fun. Yeah, it's no matter how
- 31:37Speaker 2: your size the Cardinals fans, I think any of those
- 31:39Speaker 2: three would go out and see tons of success as
- 31:42Speaker 2: a manager. But I you know where that is when
- 31:46Speaker 2: that is still yet to be determined. We'll probably actually
- 31:49Speaker 2: this conversations will actually start to matter at the end
- 31:51Speaker 2: of this season.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Well usually when managerial positions open up, but right now,
- 31:55Speaker 1: no opening, So this can just be fun little speculation.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think you got to have a lot
- 31:59Speaker 4: of a lot of respect for for Skip Schumacher too.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Write like he did play in the major leagues for
- 32:05Speaker 4: a long time and then as soon as his playing
- 32:08Speaker 4: career was over, I mean, he he went straight into grinding,
- 32:10Speaker 4: you know, through the front office and and through different
- 32:13Speaker 4: coaching positions at the major league level to create this
- 32:16Speaker 4: opportunity for himself. And so I have I just have
- 32:19Speaker 4: a lot of respect for that I mean, he he
- 32:21Speaker 4: could have, uh, you know, spent time with his family
- 32:24Speaker 4: and done all these other things, which you know, I
- 32:26Speaker 4: fall into that category too. It's nice to spend time
- 32:28Speaker 4: with with your family. But you know, Skip, he's sacrificed
- 32:32Speaker 4: a lot to get the opportunities that he has had.
- 32:34Speaker 3: So I don't want to overshadow that either, because.
- 32:36Speaker 4: It is, you know, it is a big commitment, and
- 32:39Speaker 4: and you and I both know Skip very well.
- 32:41Speaker 3: He takes it very seriously. It's not something that he
- 32:44Speaker 3: takes lightly.
- 32:44Speaker 4: And he's he's dedicated his life to giving it, giving
- 32:47Speaker 4: his best to Major League Baseball, and he's been rewarded
- 32:50Speaker 4: for it. So I would love to see him continue
- 32:52Speaker 4: to get those opportunities.
- 32:55Speaker 1: All right, Trevor, that was time fives more having fun.
- 32:57Speaker 1: That was a good one.
- 32:58Speaker 2: I believe we're almost to the end of spring. We
- 33:03Speaker 2: will be back with you, well, I will be at
- 33:04Speaker 2: the end of the week. Some very special guests that
- 33:07Speaker 2: I can't reveal yet because they don't know which games
- 33:09Speaker 2: they're playing yet, which impact when they can come on
- 33:11Speaker 2: the podcast. So that's a hint. That's some players. And
- 33:14Speaker 2: then Trevor, you're back with me next week.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's about it. That's all I have. Any closing remarks.
- 33:19Speaker 4: Trevor closing remarks, Well, we got to come up with
- 33:22Speaker 4: a nickname for Katie wu.
- 33:23Speaker 3: I don't know if you have one.
- 33:24Speaker 1: But well, my eyes are like the reporter girl. Whatever.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Everybody's happy you do.
- 33:31Speaker 4: A great job, Katie. Great job on the YACHTI Molina article.
- 33:35Speaker 4: That was really fun read, and like you said, very
- 33:37Speaker 4: timely with Albert gaining some attention in the work that
- 33:41Speaker 4: he's doing and the interest that he has, so I mean,
- 33:44Speaker 4: keep up the good work, Katy.
- 33:45Speaker 3: I've learned so much from you in a short time
- 33:47Speaker 3: and we're getting close.
- 33:49Speaker 4: We're getting we got just a couple more weeks, a
- 33:53Speaker 4: lot of good baseball ahead, a lot of storylines happening
- 33:56Speaker 4: across all of baseball, not just with the Cardinals.
- 33:59Speaker 3: We talked about Garret Cole going down. There's been some
- 34:01Speaker 3: other injuries.
- 34:03Speaker 4: But yeah, we'll continue to continue to keep our fan
- 34:06Speaker 4: base updated on the Cardinals.
- 34:08Speaker 1: That's it.
- 34:09Speaker 2: That's the whole motto of Cardinal Territory. Keeping you updated
- 34:13Speaker 2: and totally having our lives together.
- 34:15Speaker 1: That's it.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Totally, totally no holes
- 34:19Speaker 2: In our game, zero whichever Rosenthal I'm Katie who this
- 34:24Speaker 2: is Cardinal Territory will be back with you very soon.
