Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: I guess there's only one way to find out.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Let's do it to it, right?
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: What is going on?
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Rice on the Radio, episode 87.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 87.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: And here we are.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: We're through three weeks of the NFL season.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: And look, I I don't know if this happens to everybody else the same way that it happens for me, but football seems to take forever to get here.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: You finish the Super Bowl, you leave the party, then it's free agency, then it's the draft.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: OTAs, some training camp hope, preseason.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: You got your fantasy drafts.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: And you're sitting there in August watching third string quarterbacks play because for what?
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: You need that, you need that that itch.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: You gotta scratch that itch.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: And then boom, boom, the season gets here.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Finally.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And all of a sudden it's week four.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: We are going into week four of the NFL season.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: After this weekend, everybody will have played four of 17 football games, which is basically a quarter of the season.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: It used to be a quarter of the season until they had the extra game.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: But how the hell did that happen?
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I mean, the first football Sunday, right?
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: The first Thursday.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: You get with your boys, you get with your gals, you hang out, have some wine, have a couple beers, order some wings, and then you blink, and now we're a quarter of the way through the season already.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I will say though, week four is usually around the point where the cream starts to rise to the top.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: To the crop, to the top, whatever the expression is.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: It's late enough in the season to stop saying, well, it's early.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: You know, look, one game can be weird, right?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Two games, maybe, maybe they got lucky.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: The ball bounced their way.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Three, four games here.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: We might actually be learning who some of these teams are.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, dare I say the Raiders are good.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: Arizona might not be nearly as bad as I thought that they were gonna be.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Jacksonville, Duval, looks good.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: New England, the schedule babies that we thought they were.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Green Bay, everybody thought they were getting ready to take the next step.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And locally, God, locally.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: I think the Giants and Jets both uh both told on themselves a little bit.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: In a good and bad way, I guess.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So yeah, let's start there.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Extra, extra, keep the light low.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: New York talking with the late night go from the garden blow to the stadium.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: What does it mean?
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: Right on the radio, coming to your speaker's big arch tools, operating with the let's get that giant next on the right.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Run it down, light light, right on the radio.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Let's do it, do it in the Well, well, well.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And honestly, it's not a bad game to start with, even if you're not a Jets fan.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: But I want to give this one some time because I watch this game pretty closely.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: And I'll start with something that is not disgusting for me to admit, but not great either.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Geno Smith's performance against Detroit might legitimately be one of the best five or ten quarterback performances I've watched from a Jet in the last decade.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's how bad it's been, boys.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: 31 of 37, 321 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: And I honestly, saying it out loud, I don't I don't know if it's more of a compliment to Gino of him finding himself again or just just uh an indictment on the amount of terrible quarterback play that I have watched with this team for the last ten years.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: I mean, really, so he passed Zach Wilson last week for top ten all-time passing yards, he passed Ryan Fitzpatrick this week for all-time passing yards as a Jet.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Gino hasn't played for the Jets in like eight years.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Do you understand that?
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Do you understand how depressing that is?
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: I hear other fan bases talk about their quarterbacks and oh, this guy sucks, this guy blew the game, this guy did this.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: I you guys could never make it as a Jet fan.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: You couldn't.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: You could never deal with the absolute build-up, build up, build up, and then heartbreak.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: Basically, what I'm trying to say is Gino is not the problem.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Gino never was the problem.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Jets got made fun of all offseason.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, you're bringing back Gino Smith.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Gino Smith was fantastic in this game.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: Especially once the offense settled down, there was a level of calm to him that I haven't seen from Jets quarterbacks in a long time.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Detroit kept bringing pressure.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: There's bodies around him, he's taking hits, he's still sitting in there and delivering the football where it needed to go.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: You know, Gino's big bugaboo.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, he's gonna turn the football, he's gonna throw interceptions.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Well, he's looked pretty good so far, and besides the strip sack at the end of the game there, everybody's gonna try and throw that at him.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: They lost an offensive lineman, they lost their starting guard.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Guess who gave up the sack?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: The replacement guard.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: So I'm not putting this game on Geno Smith.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: And the great thing, when you actually have a little bit of core competent quarterback play, considering I watched Justin Fields last year not be able to hit anything, everybody else on the team starts looking a lot better.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Look, Jets have had some offensive players with Brees, with Garrett, you know, they had Devontae Adams at one time, that's a different story, but Jets have always kind of found their way to have some good players, right?
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Well, Garrett Wilson, if he stays on this pace and he plays how he continues to play, or he keeps playing, I should say, he's gonna go down as you know, Wayne Krebett, Al Toon.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: He's gonna go down as one of these guys that dominates as a jet.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Ring of honor kind of stuff.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 10 catches, 170 yards, and the touchdown.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: The circus catch touchdown, which he's got about four or five now already that are just like, how the hell did he even catch that ball for a touchdown?
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Never mind just like random third down catches.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I know, I know, I know.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I'm a Jet fan, so take whatever amount of bias you want to bake into this.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: But you can't look me in the face and tell me that Garrett Wilson is not an absolute monster.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: I've said this before, but if Garrett Wilson had a competent quarterback for the first three years of his career, people would be talking about him about how we talk about Justin Jefferson or Chase or AJ Brown, whoever, pick your receiver.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: This kid is elite.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: His route running is unreal, his shiftiness is unreal, his hands are like elephant glue.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: You know, it's crazy to think that Ohio State just keeps pumping out receivers, right?
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Well, at one point, Ohio State's receiver room was Garrett Wilson, Marvin Harrison Jr., Chris Olave, and Jackson Smith and Jigba.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: How did they not win a national championship?
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: No wonder Justin Fields was good.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Look, there are catches that guy makes where the degree of difficulty should be a nine out of ten, and somehow watching Garrett do it, it looks like a six.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: You know?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: That's when you know somebody is special.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: The touchdown late in the fourth, just back shoulder, bouncing around, lands on it, gets it, lands on his ass, make sure he's still in bounds.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: Jets are trying to claw all the way back.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: Geno throws it up, Garrett goes up and gets it.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Initially, they're talking about him being down.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: That's a touchdown.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: Tie football game, baby.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: That's what number one receivers are supposed to do.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: They make your quarterback right.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: They make the play when everybody in the stadium knows the football, might be coming their way.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: And then you got Ken Yon Sadiq.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: My boy.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to keep this PG here, but Kenyan suck my Dick.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, my seven catches, 105 yards, first career touchdown, and it wasn't like a little lob.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: It was a diving monster.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: That's what I've been waiting to see out of the 15th overall pick.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: By the way, the guy weighs about 240, 250 pounds, and he moves like that.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: I wanted him, right?
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: I wanted a receiver to go across Garrett Wilson in this year's draft at 15.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Jordan Tyson got taken, Cardell Tate got taken.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Okay, fine.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Whatever, whatever.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Makai Lemon.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: I thought they had a chance there.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: I loved Kenyan Sadiq coming out of Oregon.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: But I didn't think the Jets would spend the capital on him.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Darren Muji, you God.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Good job, man.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Well done.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: This kid has all the potential in the world to be a stud.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And he looks like he's living up to it.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry if I'm excited, but like, oh, god damn, it's so nice to have a nice tight end.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: You know, the last tight end I saw that was worth anything for the Jets was Dustin Keller.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: And then he up and left and went to Miami.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: I'm pumped about him, obviously, as you can tell.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Okay, so Sadiq, Garrett Wilson, Brees Hall, a quarterback who can distribute the football.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: There are pieces here.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: Now Brees didn't have much room on the ground.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: 13 carries, 32 yards, but he was still useful in the passing game, which is fine.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: And obviously came out of things banged up, which is not fine.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Landed on his hip, and he kind of looked like he grabbed his groin, or he grabbed, like, I don't know, his calf.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: And then in the postgame, he said, yeah, I felt something on the run.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: And then when I got tackled, I felt it more.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: So look, there's something to watch there.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: But let's let's forego the injury because we don't really have too much information now.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Let's just talk about the actual loss.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Because this is where my reaction is probably different than it was a week ago.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: This did not feel like Green Bay at all.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: The Green Bay game, the Green Bay game pissed me off.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, plain and simple.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: It was at home, the whiteout, the whole kit and caboodle.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: That was a game that they had.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: They had it in their hands.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: They're up 10 going into the fourth.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: And same old Jets.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: Fine.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: Whatever.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Detroit, Detroit is a different animal, man.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: You're going into Detroit, into the dome, on the turf, against a team that can score with anybody.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: And the Jets are down 24-10.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: You're thinking, all right, well, hey, good effort.
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: I can probably turn this off.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: And instead, instead of the game becoming 31-10, they come back.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: They get a 24-16.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: They score again.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Garrett Wilson touchdown, two-point conversion, 24-24.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Every Jet fan that I talked to this week after the loss, they all kind of said the same thing.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it sucks that we lost, but man, it was fun to watch that offense.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: And I think that's kind of where we're at as Jet fans right now.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it sucks, man.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: And yeah, there needs to be stuff that gets cleaned up.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: The special teams, which was supposed to be our strength coming into this season, has not looked good.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: The clock management at halftime and the end of games has not looked good.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Some of the play calling is a little funky.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: But you know what?
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: We went into the Lions' house and went blow for blow with them, and the Lions have scored 30 points every game.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: They've had to win that way.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: I'm not too mad at the loss that I probably had penciled in as a loss anyway, to be totally honest with you.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: That's kind of where the frustration comes from, though.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: You've done all the hard work.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: You were down 14.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: You fought all the way back.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Your quarterback just played his ass off.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Four minutes left?
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Tie game.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: And this defense, this Aaron Glenn superpower, which has played good throughout the year.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: I'm not going to totally knock it down.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: But four minutes left?
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: I need a stop.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: I need one stop.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And they go to the Lions go down in four plays and score a touchdown.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: I understand Jameer Gibbs is that dude.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: I understand Amon Ra is that dude.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: But can we can we make them earn three?
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, can we get them into a third down?
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Can we make them maybe kick a field goal?
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Give Gino the ball with a chance to win the game instead of just, you know, trying to tie it.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Jets defense.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Everybody has flashbacks to Rex Ryan, right?
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: To that defense.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: I think a lot of people forget about the studs that were on that defense.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: And this Jets defense has some pretty good players on it.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: David Bailey looks like the truth.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Demario Davis looks great.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: You know, we're waiting for Minka Fitzpatrick to get back.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: A couple of the corners look pretty good.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: So I'm not going to completely rip it apart here.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: But four minutes, fourth quarter, hold up your fours, boys.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: Have a little, have a little pride.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: You gotta at least not four plays.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: Give me a 10-play drive and they kick a field goal and we lose by a field goal.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Fine.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: That sucks, but I'll take it.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Four plays right down the rip?
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: That's that's loser stuff, man.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: That's Jets loser stuff.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: You know, at some point, you gotta turn these into wins.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: But there is a difference between saying, good job, everybody, you only lost by seven, and saying, you know, and I watched an offense that actually showed me something, and I think this might be sustainable.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: They're a little feisty.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: They got some grit to them.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: And I I think I think that's where I'm coming at out of this game.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: The Jets have some grit, man.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: The Jets have some fight to them for the first time in a long time.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: I I'm gonna roll my dice with Gino and Garrett and Sadiq and Brees Hall and Braylon Allen, Omar Cooper Jr.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: eventually when he gets back.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: Look, one and two with an encouraging loss, if there is such a thing, is one thing.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Going into Chicago and coming home one and three is something entirely else.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: So we'll get to that game in a little bit later in this pod.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: But I feel like the Jets uh Jets gotta find a way to get some upset action going this week.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: But since we're already hanging around the AFC East here and we're kind of staying local, Bills Chargers, Buffalo.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: What the hell was this game?
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: The Chargers forced five, one, two, three, four, five turnovers.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Buffalo turned the football over five times and won the game.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: That's almost impressive, actually.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Not almost, it is impressive.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: The Chargers are up 10-0 after the first quarter, and everybody and their mother who took the Chargers at this point is sitting there going, Yep, knew it.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Told y'all I can cash this ticket, I'm gonna be waiting at the window.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Because this is exactly what the Chargers do.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: They lose the game where you're convinced they're supposed to win, and then the second everybody counts them out against some powerhouse team, suddenly they become the toughest team in the NFL.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: This is the classic Chargers experience going back to Phillip Rivers.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: I can't tell you how many times the Chargers with LT and Antonio Gates and Phillip Rivers and Quentin Jammer, you know, they'd be favored by six and a half points and they'd get blown out by 14.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: But then they'd go up against, I don't know, the Patriots against Tom Brady and Randy Moss, and they'd find a way to cover.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: This is this is what the Chargers do always.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: It's like it's AFC West Jets.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: But look, man, gotta give credit to Buffalo.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Buffalo erased a 10-point deficit before halftime, and once that game got back to even, eventually I think the better football team just flat out beat them up.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: They won.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: James Cook is ridiculous.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: 24 carries, 150 yards, and a touchdown.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: DJ Moore, like I said, continues to look a lot more comfortable in the offense.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: It was going to take him a little bit of time to get used to Josh Allen, but they're starting to get on the same page.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: And Josh Allen was Josh Allen yet again.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: That includes the good and the bad, Josh, by the way.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Two interceptions.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Some of that reckless Josh Allen stuff that have that I've been watching with him in this division forever now.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Look, I swear, whenever he throws one interception, he's almost guaranteed to throw a second.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: It just kind of is what it is with him.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, opening week with the Rodgers, the Rodgers game with the blown Achilles.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Through three picks, two of them were the same corner.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: But look, he puts on Superman's cape and then calls it a day.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: He runs in two touchdowns.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: The game's on the line.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Buffalo needs him, and Josh Allen is Josh Allen.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: That's basically the analysis.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: That's the whole point of the game.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: You know, everybody had Chargers points, Chargers money line, whatever, whatever.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: And yeah, they covered, I guess, but they didn't win.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: And Buffalo is now 3-0, and the Chargers are 0-3, which is a death sentence.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: And one one more one more quick stat here for you.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Just because, you know, I do my homework around here.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Can you take a guess in week three who leads the NFL in rushing touchdowns?
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Well, it's a tie.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: It's Derek Henry with six and Josh Allen with six.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: He's had two rushing touchdowns in three games.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: He's had two rushing touchdowns each of the three games.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: This is like the Shohei Otani comparison.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he can run the ball.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: Derek Henry can run the ball.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Does he throw the ball also?
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: And I hate Shohei.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: You know that.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Giants, Titans.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: And uh this game was disgusting, to say the least.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Look, I'm in the area.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: I'm near MetLife.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: The Nor'easter over here, it it the shores in Jersey got hit pretty bad, and Long Island got hit pretty bad.
- 21:13SPEAKER_00: New York got hit pretty bad.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: But the central Jersey, Northern Jersey area, it was just a lot of rain, real windy.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: If you watched on TV, it was disgusting, like I said.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Matlife is kind of already one of those stadiums where you get swirling wind even when the weather is decent, you know.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: So adding in the rain and the cold and the whole the whole mess coming through.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: If you weren't a Giants fan or physically inside the building, I I don't know why you would have voluntarily watched this game.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I'm convinced that Titan fans didn't even watch this game because they don't got much to root for at this moment.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, Robert Salah, Brian Dable.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: It's not it's not looking great.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: Giant Giants scored 12 points, man.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Four field goals.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: And somehow they won.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: When you've lost your starting quarterback for the regular season and you're trying to figure out how to survive with Jameis Winston, you take the win and you shut up.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: It doesn't need to be pretty.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: But I do I do want to talk about Winston because I gave him some grace the week before, as I think most people did.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: Dark goes down early in the Rams game, and then Winston comes in.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: You're not necessarily getting a full week of first team reps and getting game planned around for what you can do.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Fine.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, that that's fine.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: This time though, even if it was a short week, you knew you were starting.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: 14 of 22, 118 yards, no touchdowns.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: Look, the good thing is, I guess he didn't turn the football over, right?
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: That's Jameis' thing.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: I think the entire offensive game plan was basically we're gonna run the shit out of the ball, don't throw any picks.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Take points whenever we can, right?
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: So if if that was the case, then mission accomplished.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: But there were still some throws where I was kind of sitting there going, Jameis, my guy, you're you're a professional quarterback.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Whether or no weather, some of these can't be five yards away from the receiver.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: You know, there were there was a couple that were ugly.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: You can't see me right now, but I just flexed my neck.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: The other thing, too, is you know, this game was a running game, right?
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: This was you knew you were gonna lean on the run.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: I know you got four running backs, but Cam Scadabow, even with 20 carries and three catches, he only touched it 23 times.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: And I know that sounds like a lot, but given what this game was, there was nobody you weren't throwing 50 other times, you weren't throwing 40 other times.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: So, what I mean when I say I want more scatterbo it is situational.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: There were moments when I'm sitting there on the couch and I'm going, this is a scatterbo down.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Why is he not in the game?
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: This is the time for the hard-headed idiot to get in the the trenches here and go bang his head.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: You know, you get four backs on the team and they all do different things, and they all don't really do him too good.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Whereas Scatabow kind of does all of the things that the other backs do decent enough or at least better enough that he keep him in the game, you know.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: It's about giving him the right touches, and I think the Giants are still trying to figure that part out.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: Defensively, defensively, they did enough.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: You know, Javon Holland gets the pick in the end zone at the end of the game, shuts the door.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Two and one, you take it.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: For Tennessee, I don't know.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: God bless, man.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Cam Ward is Cam Ward is a really interesting player to me because I I genuinely like him.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: I like the personality, I like the leadership stuff, I like the confidence that he has, and I understand why people and GMs and coaches fell in love with him during the draft process, but some of the quarterbacking habits just still scare the hell out of me.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: You know, he's got that thing where he stops his feet, he's doing like the nonchalant, and he did that in Florida.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: He gets like super comfortable back there, like he's surveying the field.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: That's too casual, man.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: In college, with his talent, he can get away with that.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: In the NFL, everything happens just too damn fast for you to just plant your feet and stand there in the back.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Now, it's also partly on the Giants, too.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, supposedly this Giants front seven, right?
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Thibodeau and Abdul Carter and you know, this, that, and the other.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get after the quarterback.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: We're gonna help our secondary.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not really, man.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Cam Ward literally stopped his feet and stood up straight and surveyed the field multiple times during that game.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Cardinal Tate flashed a little bit more, six catches, 58 yards, so that's promising, I guess.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe they're still trying to figure out how to get on the same path.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: But I keep wondering what some of these Tennessee weapons would look like with a steadier quarterback operating the offense.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: But that's their problem.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: We don't we don't care about Tennessee.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: For the Giants, it's two and one.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: And here's why that record actually matters more than I thought it would about a week ago.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Look around the NFC East.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Philadelphia just got the doors blown off of them by Chicago.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: Dallas, as always, has defensive questions.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Jaden Daniels is hurt yet again in Washington.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: And now suddenly you're looking around going, wait a second.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: There might actually have been something here for the Giants if Jackson Dart doesn't get hurt.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: And that is what makes the Dart injury hurt even more.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: You know, as you know, he's officially out for the regular season.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Also, Brian Burns, probably your best defensive player, is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: So that's brutal.
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: But the division suddenly looks a lot less intimidating than it did three weeks ago.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: And the Giants are just trying to navigate it without their quarterback and now one of the leaders of their defense.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: So, you know what?
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: Was 12-7 pretty?
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: No.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Did they ask Hal?
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: No.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Put the check in the right column.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: They're two and one, and we'll see what Winston can do against Arizona this week.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: But before we get there, I do want to talk about probably my favorite game that I watched this Sunday, and that's Raiders Saints.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: I know uh I know nationally this probably wasn't everybody's game of the week, but it was definitely mine.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: I talked about it last episode.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: Raiders Saints was awesome, man.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: The Raiders being 3-0 does not shock me as much as I think it shocks some other people.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: I liked what they've been building.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: I liked Kirk Cousins in this offense.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: I like Mendoza.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: And through three games, the signing looks fantastic.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: Against New Orleans, 22-33, 248 yards, three touchdowns, no picks, and now he's thrown three touchdowns in every game so far this season.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: You got QBAC leading this thing, you got Tom Brady involved at the ownership level, and I'm not gonna sit here and tell you Tom Brady is drawing up third down plays from the owner's box.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: That's not what I'm saying.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: But from the outside, this organization just feels like it has a higher standard now.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: It feels more serious.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: And then, oh, by the way, you get Brock Bowers back.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: Hello.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: 10 catches, 116 yards, his touchdown, first of the game of the year.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: No easing him back in, no nothing, no pitch count.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Just here you go, Brock.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Go get him.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: 13 targets.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Be Brock Bowers.
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: And that he was.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: I also don't want to do the lazy thing here where we just say Vegas beat New Orleans, therefore Vegas is good and New Orleans sucks.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Because they don't.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: They don't suck.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: I said this before.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: They have this thing where the offense seems to start slowly, and then Kellen Moore seems to figure out what the defense is doing, makes his adjustments, and all of a sudden it's off to the races in the second half.
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Tyler Shuck threw four touchdowns.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: Chris Olave went over 100 yards.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: New Orleans actually got out to a 27-16 lead in the third quarter.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: Vegas just responded with 19 unanswered points.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: That's why I like this game.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: Man, this game was all offense, all bang bang, slug fest.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: You know, I wasn't one, it wasn't one team looking great while the other is just falling apart from the opening whistle.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: It was back and forth, back and forth, momentum swings.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: And then the Raiders had to take the game late.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: So, so yeah, Vegas is 3-0.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: I'm buying it.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: And conveniently, they get a real chance this week to find out exactly how real this thing is.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: We'll get to that in a little bit, too.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: But first, a couple of uh around the league tidbits I think you guys might enjoy.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Jags 35, Patriots six, Jacksonville might be the truth.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: Liam Cohen has these guys going.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: That's funny, that rhymes.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: I didn't think of that.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: And New England stinks, man.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: Call this Jets Homer.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: New England stinks.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: Mike Vrabel has too much on his mind, and he doesn't have a secret sauce anymore, if you know what I mean.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: So is what it is.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: Hey man, happy wife, happy life.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: And uh I don't think his wife is too happy with him as of late.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: Falcons, Packers, Thursday night.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: Atlanta absolutely just took bell to ass to the Green Bay Packers, which again makes the Jets loss of them feel even worse.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: But, you know, we kind of knew this was coming.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Penix isn't great.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: He's not bad, but he's better than whatever the hell they were throwing out there for the last couple weeks.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: There's too much firepower on this offense for them to be that bad.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: So it sucks for Green Bay that they were the ones that had to take the uh the ass kicking, so to speak.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: But Bichon rushes for 194 yards, and Drake London catches for 194 yards, receives for 194 yards.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: Green Bay, man, woof.
- 32:29SPEAKER_00: They ran the ball nine times.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: Nine.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: The offensive line wasn't good, the defensive line wasn't good, Jordan Love wasn't good.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: Christian Watson got his, which proves to show how good he actually is, but who not great.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: Steelers, Bengals, AFC North football, except everybody remembered how to play offense instead of defense.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: Joe Burrow, 282 yards, three touchdowns.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Jamar Chase, T.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Higgins, both showed up.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: Aaron Rodgers, 292 touchdowns.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: Two touchdowns, 292 yards, and three touchdowns.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: Jalen Warren, he was ridiculous.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: 17 carries, 127 yards.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: This is a good game for Rodgers.
- 33:15SPEAKER_00: This is a good game for Joe Burrow.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: This is a typical AFC North matchup as of late.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: You know, it's no longer the black and blue division where they beat the hell out of each other.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Now it's who can score more points.
- 33:28SPEAKER_00: Joe Burrow gets the strip stack at the end, loses the game.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: It is what it is, right?
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Ravens, Cowboys.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: Uh this game was in Rio de Janeiro.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: The field before the game was being monitored by the NFL because of how bad the field conditions were.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: There was a lot of artificial turf going in.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: I think JJ Watt at one point posted on Twitter like a picture of the artificial turf, and it literally looked like I don't know.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: Straw colored green, I guess.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: But the game did a disappointment back and forth offense, and then within 10 seconds, we got two lead changes, which is crazy.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Also goes to show how good offenses are on high-level teams.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: You know, say what you want about the Cowboys or the Ravens, but literally there was 13 seconds left in the game, and both teams scored.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: So, you know, take that for what it's worth.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: But anyway, yeah, those are a couple of the other games that I uh I thought worth mentioning in this episode from last week.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Obviously, a couple other things happened, but those are the big ones.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: So looking ahead here to week four, okay?
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: We dissected week three.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: Let's uh let's break down some week four games here.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: Basically, a quarter of the way through the season, which means the questions start changing, right?
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: We're not we're not asking what happened anymore.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: We're starting to ask whether what happened is becoming an identity.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: So I got five games here that really jump out for me for this week coming up.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: First, obviously, we're gonna go with the locals.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: So, Jets at Bears.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Jets go to Chicago after just playing in Detroit.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: And after what I just watched against Detroit, this game became a lot more interesting to me because now I know what I know.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Was this kind of the beginning of something?
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: Was the offense starting to click, or did Geno Smith just have one of those unbelievable Sundays?
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: You know, Chicago beat the hell out of Phillies, Phillies, the Eagles.
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: That defense has shown that it can create turnovers.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: And, you know, after watching Gino play as cleanly as he did in Detroit, this is gonna become the test.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: You know, this is Gino's thing, right?
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Oh, he's he he turns the ball over.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: He led the league in interceptions.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: Ugh, this is gonna be the big test.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: Detroit's uh Detroit.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: Chicago's defense is not good in stopping people.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: They're a very good Ben don't break, but they do get a lot of turnovers.
- 36:19SPEAKER_00: So can you do it again?
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Can Garrett keep it going?
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: Can Kenyon Sadiq keep it going?
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: And more importantly, can the Jets actually finish this one?
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Can they come out of Chicago with a W, please?
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: Two and two.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, now we're playing football.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: We're in it.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: You got something to build on.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: One and three.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: One and three, the noise starts getting real loud.
- 36:44SPEAKER_00: I'll leave it at that.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Cardinals at Giants, Giants back-to-back home games, God bless them, must be nice.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Arizona comes into Matlife.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: West Coast to East Coast, you know, maybe that plays a factor, but if you asked me a few weeks ago and you told me Jackson Dart was still standing upright, Giants should win, no problem.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: Arizona stinks, move on, keep it going.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying that anymore, man.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: The Cardinals have been in just about every game they have played this week, this year, excuse me.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: And I know it's a divisional opponent, so you're gonna get a little more gassed up, but they gave the business to San Francisco a little bit.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: Even if they lost the game, man, they they got pushed around early and they pushed them back.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: You know, you score 30 points on that San Francisco defense.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: There's there's some there's some dogs over there, man.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna admit, when I did my preseason stuff and went through every game and win, loss, loss, win, yada, yada, yada.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Arizona kept coming up, you know, three and fourteen and four and whatever, and yada, yada, yada, yada.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know, man.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: Arizona might be good.
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: If the Giants fuck around, they might find out.
- 38:03SPEAKER_00: Trey McBride is serious.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: You know, Michael Wilson is serious.
- 38:08SPEAKER_00: Jeremiah Love is pretty damn good.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: This Giants defense, not even the secondary, just the defense in general, has not looked good.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: I think Trey McBride could have himself a day, especially with Brian Burns being out here.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: Last local game.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: Patriots at Bill's.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: This is a big one for both teams.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: You know, the Bills have kind of solidified themselves as the juggernaut in the AFC.
- 38:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there are other good teams.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: You know, Kansas City's still 3-0, whatever, but the Ravens look good.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: But the Bills going to 4-0 at home in the new stadium, that's gonna get these uh these fans pretty riled up.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: They're gonna go through a lot of tables in Buffalo.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: And for the Patriots, I don't know, man.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of questions to be answered here.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: You know, you were just in the Super Bowl, and you you can't even say it's a Super Bowl hangover because you didn't win.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: I I am a Drake May fan.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: I really am.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: I liked him coming out of college.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: I think people were a little early to crown him as good as he is, but damn, man, he's got seven turnovers in three games.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: That's that's inexcusable as a professional quarterback in this league.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be that's a good game to watch.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: Also, division game, so you know who doesn't love that?
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: Rams at Eagles.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: I wanted to keep this one in.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: I almost cut it, but I wanted to keep this one in because both these teams come into week four needing a response to the previous week.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Rams had Denver, they let it slip, and the Eagles just got embarrassed on national TV in Chicago.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: Plus, if both of these teams are planning on going to the playoffs, which they are, I would assume they are, this uh this tiebreaker is gonna mean something pretty hefty at the end of the year.
- 40:21SPEAKER_00: Let's say they both finish, I don't know, 11, 12 wins.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: Well, whoever wins this game is gonna have the higher seed.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Nick Siriani losing his mind.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: Siriani, Sirianni, Nick Sirianni, there we go, losing his mind during the Chicago game.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: That's the most fired up I've seen him all uh all season, probably actually his whole tenure.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: He's always tried to be the cool cucumber and he was losing his mind on the sideline.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: Good on ESPN's cameras to get him.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: And I don't know, man, there's turmoil.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: They can't get Saquon Barkley going.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: And Devontae Smith is good, Mikhail Lemon looks good, Dallas Goddard is still there.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: But you this whole offense relies on Saquon and Hurts.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: Rams, they need Miles Garrett back.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: The whole point of Aaron Donald coming back was so they can pin him and Miles Garrett together.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: I had it right the first time.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: I got there.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I got there.
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 41:28SPEAKER_00: They need Puka back, actually, is really what they need.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: But yeah, that's that's gonna be a great game to watch.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: I think that's uh 425.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Chiefs and Raiders.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: This is the last one on my list to watch this week.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: And this is the one.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: The Raiders hate the Chiefs, they hate 'em.
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: I got two Raiders fans in my friend group.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: I I I don't think I don't think there's a bigger hatred to any of the other teams that they root for.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: They cannot stand the Chiefs.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: And it's in Vegas, and it's a big division game for the lead in the division to try and go 4-0.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: Whew.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: This is gonna be a good one, man.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: I'm looking forward to it.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Mahomes is Mahomes.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Kubiac has that offense humming.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: Kelsey look young.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: Ashton Jantey's a stud.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Brock Bauer's a monster.
- 42:26SPEAKER_00: Raiders, Chiefs.
- 42:28SPEAKER_00: Tune your TV to that.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: Promise you, you won't be disappointed.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Even if it's a blowout, doesn't matter one way or the other.
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be a good game to watch.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: But uh, but yeah, those are those are the five games that I'm actually pretty excited to watch here for week four.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: There are some others that I like, you know, Broncos Broncos Niners, that's that should be a good football game.
- 42:50SPEAKER_00: Colts Commanders, kind of sneaky, interesting.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: It's that 9.30 London game.
- 42:56SPEAKER_00: But uh, yeah, those are the five that I really want to come back next week and talk about.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: And before we get to Sunday, we got Thursday night.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: Which means it's time to roll the dice a little bit.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: If you have been paying attention to the Instagram and following the podcast, I've been pretty hot as of late.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: This is our rolling the dice with rice segment, by the way.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: This is our gambling segment, this is our picks segment, if you're new here.
- 43:33SPEAKER_00: So let's do accountability first.
- 43:35SPEAKER_00: Last week I went six and four.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: I know it doesn't sound great, but still six and four.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: Thursday night did the heavy lifting, four and one.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: God damn Kyle Pitts.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: Sunday, two and three.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: Not my best card.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna pretend those don't happen because the winners just look pretty on Instagram.
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: No, you gotta, you know, you gotta take your losses and Track your wins.
- 44:01SPEAKER_00: Anyway, that moves the season to 18 and 6, and we had a void for Jackson Dart.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: I will take that all goddamn day.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: So for Thursday night, we got Pittsburgh going into Cleveland.
- 44:17SPEAKER_00: And I gotta tell you, the more I looked into this game, the more I started liking the story around this thing almost as much as the bets.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: Cleveland's two-one, Pittsburgh's two-one, division game, Thursday night in Cleveland, in the dog pound.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: And here's a stat that I found that I absolutely love that supports my argument here.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: The last time Cleveland played a primetime game while above 500 was December 28th, 2003.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: The Browns were 10-5, and they beat you guessed it, you guessed it, they beat the Jets 37-20 and clinched a playoff spot.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: I believe Baker Mayfield was the uh quarterback of that team.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: Of course it was against the Jets.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: It always is against the Jets or the Mets.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: In somebody else's highlight video, there you're guaranteed to see either a green and white or a blue and orange uniform standing in the background.
- 45:26SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: The Cleveland crowd was insane that night.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: And Cleveland has won nine straight home Thursday night games.
- 45:39unknown: Nine.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: This is already one of the loudest, most devoted fan bases in football.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: Now, now you got them with a winning record under the lights in front of the nation.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: Pittsburgh hated division rival coming into town.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: First division game of the year, the place is gonna be nuts.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: And that's where my first play comes in.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Over 38 and a half.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: 38 and a half is just a little too low for me.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: I understand why it's low.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: It's Cleveland, it's Pittsburgh.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: AFC North is immediately, you know, three to nine, just run the ball.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: There's no shootouts, right?
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: I don't need a shootout.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: 21-20 gets me there.
- 46:25SPEAKER_00: 24-17 gets me there.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: 27-13 gets me there.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: I just need both teams to contribute a little bit.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: And part of me thinks Pittsburgh might be a little beat up coming out of that Cincinnati game.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: That was a physical game.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: It was back and forth.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: It went all the way to the end.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: Now you're on a short week.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: Plus, I also don't really trust, completely trust Pittsburgh, right?
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: They're they're two and one.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: I know Rodgers looked good last week.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: I know Warren just ran all over Cincinnati, but congratulations, man.
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Cincinnati has never been known for their defense, you know?
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: So give me the over, give me over 38 and a half.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna correlate it with the guy I'm betting finds the end zone for Cleveland here.
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: And that's gonna be Denzel Boston.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: You know, the rookie has been making noise, he's been making noise all camp.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: Through three games, he's got nine catches for 195 yards and two touchdowns, almost 21 yards a catch on average.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: This isn't some guy I'm pulling out of the hat because the touchdown numbers look pretty.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: He's already shown you big playability, he's shown you some repertoire with Deshaun Watson.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: Home, primetime game, rivalry game, young receiver, national audience.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: This could be Denzel Boston's coming out party.
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: So my official pick, number two, on the podcast for Thursday night, Denzel Boston, anytime touchdown.
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: Those are the two I like.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: I'll I'll dig through the rest of the board and put some more plays up on Instagram on Thursday, like usual.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: But for the podcast, over Boston touchdown.
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: Let's see if Cleveland can give us a show, man.
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: One thing before I do get out of here, I owe you guys a fantasy episode.
- 48:16SPEAKER_00: Didn't get one out last week or the week before.
- 48:19SPEAKER_00: It's about a quarter of the way through the season, so that's on me.
- 48:23SPEAKER_00: I've been trying to get the NFL schedule into a better rhythm, and fantasy ended up just being the thing that got pushed aside, unfortunately.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: I don't want that to become a habit.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: So I'm saying it here partly because if I say it into a microphone and put it on the internet, now I actually have to be held accountable for it.
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: There's plenty to talk about three weeks into these leagues.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Trades, waivers, guys we were completely wrong about, guys we were completely right about.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: So fantasy is coming back into the rotation.
- 48:51SPEAKER_00: I owe you one, I promise.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: But I think that's where I'm gonna want to leave this one at.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Not with another score, not with another prediction, just with the thing I keep thinking about going into week four.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: We're getting to the part of the football season where the word early starts having an expiration game.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: Week one, anything can happen.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: Team looks terrible, whatever, who cares?
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: Bad Sunday, it's one game.
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: Week two, alright, still figuring it out.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: Week three, okay.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: Now, now I'm starting to pay attention.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: Week four, patterns start becoming identities.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: That's the fun part of the season to me.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: Because right now we still don't we still don't completely know.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: But we kind of have a pretty good idea what's going on here.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: I'm serious, maybe the Raiders are an actual contender.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe Jacksonville is for real.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: Maybe the Jets' offense we watch in Detroit is actually the offense that we're gonna get to see going forward.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: Or maybe Sunday comes and completely flips everything we think we know right on its head.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: That's football.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: That's why we love it.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: And the insane part is we're gonna spend all week talking about it, thinking about it, betting on it, setting fantasy lineups, convincing ourselves that we finally understand what's happening.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: And then they're gonna kick off the ball and make us look stupid all over again.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: We waited forever for the season to get here, and somehow it's already flying by.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: So basically, what I'm trying to say is just enjoy the hell out of it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: Week four is here.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: I got the Browns and the Steelers Thursday night.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: I got a full roll in the dice with Rice card that'll be over on Instagram.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: It's at Rice on the Radio.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: And we'll be we'll be back to break down everything that comes out of the weekend.
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: Until then, tell someone you love them.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: Spread good energy in this world, be the reason someone has a good day.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: And I'll catch you guys next time.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: I am Ian Rice.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: This has been episode eighty-seven of Rice on the Radio.
- 51:10unknown: Peace.
