Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville, Jaguar's fans, welcome into Duval, daily presented by Jinjag.com and fuel by Brass Tax Coffee.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: It's Friday, July 24th.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: I am Jordan Deluga right now.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: We are still getting ready for training camp.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar is rookie's reporting tomorrow.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's on Tuesday, practice on Wednesday, fired up for it.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: Cannot wait to just melt in the Jacksonville heat throughout training camp.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: But no, legitimately, very excited to get back to football.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: And we talked about rookie expectations earlier for training camps specifically, like not for the season, but for training camp, like, what do they need to earn, what do they need to prove?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: And as helpful as it would be, and in some situations necessary, as it would be for some of the Jaguar's rookies to, at the very least, establish themselves as quality, depth, and quality rotational pieces, the sophomore class.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: James Gladstone's first class, Liam Cohen's first class,
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: These are the guys that really need to step up and kind of take the mantle in some certain spots and need to push for jobs and show that even if they don't win the job this year as a starter that they're ready for being starters in 2027, right?
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: And that kind of, it's already kicked off with the Offseason Program, the Iron Jaguar, OTAs, many camp all that stuff, but this is that next step.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: And the first player we have on our list, obviously, for him, it's not about showing you can start in 2027 and having a role this year.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's about showing you can start and dominate at corner back, at wide receiver right now, Travis Hunter.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: You need to go out there and show that you are the best corner back on the field, that you are taking the opposing teams number one, that you are the player who can actually compete with Brian Thomas Jr. down the field.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: You need to be that guy at corner, and make plays at wider receiver.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the Jaguars have so much talent at wider receiver, it's just not as important for him to kick but at wider receiver.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: But make plays at wider receiver when you're on the field on offense, dominate at corner back when you're on the field on defense during these practices.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously continue to make sure you're treating your body right, which he's going to, like, the guy is a pro.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: He is a pro's bro.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be in the playbook.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be in the meeting room.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be in the virtual work room.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: All those things dominate at corner back, make plays at literacy.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's all you got to do Travis Hunter.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: Why am I alone?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar's third round pick.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: He dealt with injury last year too.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: So each of the Jaguar's first three picks.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: dealt with injury.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter missed over half the season.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Why at my long, missed a good chunk of preseason and beginning of the year.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Ransal missed the whole year.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: So really unfortunate, and you're hopeful to just get these guys going, but why at my long fortunately for him was able to get going down the stretch and actually do some things as a depth player as some of you came in for injuries, as somebody who actually took reps as like a tight end, just to get a big body out there,
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, when the starting left guard job, man, it's there.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Patrick McCarrie is a star.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's a replacement level starter right now, at best.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Why not?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: Why not go when the starting left guard job?
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I said left guard, right guard job.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: As your Cleveland's playing, go football.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think the jackwares are going to cross train these guys.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_00]: There's going to be different line-ups, et cetera.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: On the offensive line.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that why at my limit is more
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: competing at right guard and Emmanuel Pregnant, more left guard Murray's getting fired up out here.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: She hears the UPS trucker, Amazon, trucker, whatever it is.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: Those breaks drive her absolutely insane.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why, but they do.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: So I do apologize for Murray getting fired up back there.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to see why my little win the starting right guard job.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Win it.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be great.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then that would refer Patrick McCary back to like what his best role has been in the NFL, which is being the ultimate swingman who can play all five positions in a pinch.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: That would be great.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'd love to see that.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: Caleb Ramsaw at minimum, you know, taking one pick after, why am I, at minimum, playmaking safety three, like you've got all the physical ability in the world.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_00]: Go show it.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, playmaking safety three.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar is going to have three safety sets.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: I want to see him out there in those three safety sets.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to see him get opportunities with Antonio Johnson as a starter.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: Push Eric Murray for that job.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Eric Murray's got a lot of experience in the league.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's got experience in this system.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: But Kayla Branson should have been in the playbook all off season, all year, virtual room, all year,
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: The guy isn't a lead athlete.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I do not say that with any hyperbole hyperbole.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: Four threes in the 40R dash, 40 inch vert.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: The guy is incredible.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: He does not miss tackles at least in the collegiate level.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't, he has versatility to play a lot of different spots for you.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: Do a lot of different things.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: I really would love to see Caleb Ransal fall out.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: Bacial Tutan, I mean,
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: individually, not thinking about the big picture, continue to hold onto the football and make more place.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: He did a good job of kind of just doing the job at running back last year, in my opinion.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Be the playmaker.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: Be the Speedster, the 4-2-8 guy, the guy that has the quickness and eluciveness to make people miss, not only in the hole, but out there in space, run away from some folks.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, be running back one day.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: He's currently being drafted in fantasy like a number one running back, even though Chris Rotterie is in town.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Be so valuable that they can't keep you off the field.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: Now, look, I think Chris Rotterie is going to get reps on game day.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to run the football on game day when they need to early on in the season, when they need
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: to stay on schedule.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: When they need a short yardage first down, I think it's going to be Chris Rodriguez, but make it difficult for him to fend you off in that role and prove that you are the guy that can be the runner, the pass protector, the receiver, the complete back.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: Go do it.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Kaiser.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: No one's expecting you to start.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: When you did have to get in the game last year, I thought he played pretty well.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: Make place, don't make a lot of mental mistakes.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: Show out more than Branson Coms and Parker Hughes.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think Branson Coms will be playing more weekside, like behind ventral.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: And there's no expectation for Jack Cies to push for a little can.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: But make some plays out there, don't make many mistakes and show out more than those other young linebackers.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be difficult to do.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: Branson calms, I think, stood out more last off season than Jack Kaiser did.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I've said that many times.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: But show that you're ready.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that you're ready to compete to get on the field more.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that when the time comes, I'm foiei, is no longer starter, which, you know, I want to see foiei as the starting
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: But they might not want to have a older, expensive linebacker for all that long.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: And he's not one of the more expensive linebackers anymore.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: When he first signed with the Jaguards with Trim Balki, he got a big linebacker deal.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: But now his average for years, like 10 million, which is very reasonable, he's under contract through 2027.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: So with Kaiser, I still think it's just kind of one of those things where,
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: prove that you're taking steps in the right direction to where if the Jaguar is decided to move on from foie after 2027, you can be that guy.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, you can also compete at weekside.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Kaiser has the same level of explosiveness and thump that like a ventro or Branson Colms plays with, but that doesn't mean you can't compete there, too.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: Jail him a cloud, another rookie missed the whole day and year.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Beat out your syrup, Dula.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Be the Jack Wars Sam, too, behind Dennis Gardeck.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: And for him, like, I want to see him learning from Dennis Gardeck all the time.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: That guy plays the game the right way.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Plays with such a crazy mindset.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jaylem McLeod has that within him.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: Based on his tape at Auburn, B.E.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Searout, which means you're going to have to do it on special teams.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: If Jaylem McLeod is going to make this team in year two, he's got to beat you syrup, Dula.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think you're sure of Dula as a scrub as a backup Sam Landbacker and very good special team's player.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, Rale and Lane, I don't think he's in any trouble, potentially making the team, I don't think.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: Don't make many mental mistakes.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: When you're out there on defense, maybe make a player two here or there?
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: Kick butt on special teams.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's his job, is to be their special team's ace.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: And to be somebody who, if he has to get on the field at safety, you can.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: The plan won't be for him to play any safety during the season this year, you know, on game day.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: But he had to last year a little bit and I think he did a pretty good job.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: John O'Montheim, push Robert Hainesyman, why not?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: Monheim is an elite athlete, he has experience playing every position you can imagine in the collegiate level on the offensive line.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: played a lot of tackle at the collision level.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's not the biggest guy, but he's a great athlete.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think he works hard.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's smart.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: He equated himself well as a rookie when he had to get on the field.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Push Robert Hainesy.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Jackson get out of the Robert Hainesy contract after 2027.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not saying they should want to, but I do think Robert Hainesy as I graded him out is a replacement level starter.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: uh... the jack wars right after twenty twenty six going into twenty twenty seven if they decide to part ways with um... robber handsy they can save basically four million dollars against the cap again not saying they need to do that they have to do that even if he's not your starter i think he's a valuable depth player if he's your backup center you're in a very good spot
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: uh... liquid allen energy effort reckless abandoned almost obviously you need to have a little bit of uh... you know rain it in during practice against your own teammates but just bring that same energy be a dog out there uh... i think ultimately
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Can he eat in to the workload of basal tuton of Chris Rodriguez?
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: That would be huge for him.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna be at third down back.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's gonna be a pass down back.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's clear.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: But can he be more than that?
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: That would be fun to see him kind of step up in that way as a running back.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know he's gonna pass bro.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know he's a really good pass catcher out of the back field.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Can he show you more as just like a runner of the football?
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: That'd be fun to see.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, those are my expectations for the Jaguar's sophomore.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: class going into their second year.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: The biggest thing is stay healthy, man.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: Most of these guys can stay healthy.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they will show that they're a dang good class.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all have a good one.
