- 2:06Speaker 1: usually a couple of surprises. The winner's not usually a surprise,
- 2:10Speaker 1: but usually there's a couple of surprise dark horses along
- 2:12Speaker 1: the way, So that's always fun to see. The fandom
- 2:14Speaker 1: will activate, Oh totally. It's a bummer that this series
- 2:19Speaker 1: won't be in the bracket, it really is it. Wonder
- 2:22Speaker 1: how it would fare. Yeah, I don't know, I don't know. Well,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I don't know. That's a good question.
- 2:27Speaker 2: If we were gonna put this series up against each other,
- 2:29Speaker 2: what wins this or Missiletone Murders. They are both so good,
- 2:33Speaker 2: truly truly, so good, so good.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Let me tell you. I was on the phone with
- 2:38Speaker 1: my mother in law the other day and she's like,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm watching a Hallmark movie and I was like, oh good.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And then she's like, yeah, it's twelve dates and I
- 2:45Speaker 1: was like, oh, well, that's not a movie. I just
- 2:47Speaker 1: wanted to make sure like she knew, because I had
- 2:51Speaker 1: a feeling she might have like picked it up like
- 2:52Speaker 1: in episode three and four right, not realize it wasn't
- 2:56Speaker 1: a series but a movie. Inside she goes, oh no, no, no,
- 2:58Speaker 1: I know, and she goes it's kind of hard to
- 3:01Speaker 1: follow and they're all British. I can't understand them. And
- 3:05Speaker 1: I was like, oh, oh no, no, I hope that's
- 3:10Speaker 1: not where this series is landing with that demographic.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I yeah, I don't think so. Think about how well
- 3:19Speaker 2: those British crime dramas do. I think they're true, Like
- 3:24Speaker 2: that's one of my mom's favorite things, so down to Abbey.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I don't think the British piece is going to be
- 3:28Speaker 2: a turnoff. And subtitles exist. I will tell you, we
- 3:32Speaker 2: watched all these episodes on screeners. There are no subtitles
- 3:35Speaker 2: on screeners, and that challenged my brain a little bit.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I like to read what I'm watching, same, same, same,
- 3:45Speaker 1: not because of the accent so much as I just
- 3:48Speaker 1: subtitle everything me too everything. Does your family have an
- 3:52Speaker 1: opinion about that? Well, I think they've just leaned into it,
- 3:56Speaker 1: like they allow me. You know. Sometimes we'll be watching
- 3:59Speaker 1: a football game and the subtitles are on and they're like, Okay, look,
- 4:01Speaker 1: we gotta trun this off. Yeah. Yeah, my family has
- 4:06Speaker 1: leaned into But I know that all three of them
- 4:10Speaker 1: if they had, if it were up to them, they
- 4:12Speaker 1: would turn them off. Let's kick this episode off with
- 4:15Speaker 1: a synopsis of episodes five and six. Sure. Episode five
- 4:20Speaker 1: tis the season for do Overs. Kate has difficult decisions
- 4:24Speaker 1: to make and turns to Delilah for help. Despite Laura's
- 4:28Speaker 1: commitment not to meddle, she wants to make things right
- 4:31Speaker 1: for Callum and Kate. Episode six tis this season for
- 4:35Speaker 1: Taking Chances. As the twelfth date draws near, Kate is
- 4:40Speaker 1: feeling confident in her choices, but when new information comes
- 4:43Speaker 1: to light, she can no longer deny her true feelings.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Episode five was written by Dava Avenna with thirteen writing credits.
- 4:50Speaker 2: She is best known for her episodic work for shows
- 4:53Speaker 2: like Devious Maids, Kevin probably Saves the World, Grand Hotel
- 4:58Speaker 2: BH nine, O two to zero, Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist, and
- 5:01Speaker 2: Firefly Lane. As a reminder, Dava had written episode two
- 5:05Speaker 2: of this series.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Megan kay Fox returns as director. She had previously directed
- 5:11Speaker 1: episodes three and four.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Episode six was written by Aaron Rodman and author of
- 5:17Speaker 2: the book Jenny Bayliss.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Episode six was directed by Imer Conroy, who had directed
- 5:22Speaker 1: episodes one and two.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Our core cast returns May Whitman as Kate, Julian Morris
- 5:27Speaker 2: as Callum, and Lucy Eaton as bestie Laura. We also
- 5:30Speaker 2: have Nathaniel Parker as Kate's dad, Mac, Jane Seymour as Evelyn,
- 5:34Speaker 2: and Mary McDonell as Kate's mom Delila. In addition, we
- 5:38Speaker 2: have Toby Sandman as Richard, Imer, Morrissey as the Matchmaker,
- 5:42Speaker 2: Drew Harry Butler as Oliver, Jake Solari as Charlie, Fiona
- 5:46Speaker 2: Brown as Nicola, and Killian Coyle as Ben. Let's take
- 5:50Speaker 2: a quick break and come right back with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy,
- 6:02Speaker 2: what was your first impression of these finale episodes of
- 6:05Speaker 2: twelve dates till Christmas?
- 6:07Speaker 1: I don't say this lightly but now that we've watched
- 6:10Speaker 1: the entire series, this is the best thing I've watched.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I'll count down to Christmas. Better than any movie I've seen.
- 6:17Speaker 1: There just aren't enough superlatives for this show. I don't
- 6:20Speaker 1: know how many ways to say it's so good. I know,
- 6:24Speaker 1: I know, Like I had to message Aaron Rodman yesterday
- 6:28Speaker 1: after I had finished episode six and say it's so good. Basically,
- 6:34Speaker 1: I was like all my notes say, oh my god,
- 6:36Speaker 1: this scene, Oh my god, this scene, Oh my god,
- 6:39Speaker 1: this scene. Yes, Like I just want to like tell her, like,
- 6:44Speaker 1: you put something so wonderful out into the world and
- 6:47Speaker 1: thank you for that. It was so good. It would
- 6:50Speaker 1: be criminal if this doesn't come back next year. Criminal.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I don't I don't know. I'd okay when we get well, no,
- 7:01Speaker 1: let me ask you this now. At the end of
- 7:03Speaker 1: episode six, did you say did you say to yourself like, oh, yes,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I could see a second season of this show with
- 7:09Speaker 1: this cast. Oh well, yes, that's the show I want.
- 7:15Speaker 1: But you hurt? Are you referencing the fact that they're
- 7:17Speaker 1: like we could do twelve dates? Yeah, like reap, yes see,
- 7:21Speaker 1: I just love this cast so much. Yeah, I know,
- 7:24Speaker 1: see that's you know, Aaron had to mentioned in her
- 7:26Speaker 1: interview like, oh, we could do twelve dates anywhere and
- 7:29Speaker 1: basically with like a new cast or whatever. But but
- 7:32Speaker 1: now I'm so in love with the cast. Yes, no,
- 7:36Speaker 1: we need to stay in this little world here.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Well, and also she did mention that Jenny Bayliss had
- 7:43Speaker 2: written like the story exists for a second book, which
- 7:46Speaker 2: would serve as the sequel series, so we'll see. I
- 7:52Speaker 2: don't know how you abandoned this show after six episodes.
- 7:56Speaker 1: You can't, but I'm fearful it's going to happen. I
- 8:00Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. Well,
- 8:04Speaker 1: let me tell you my first impression. It is somebody
- 8:07Speaker 1: in broidered.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Just because the truth makes people uncomfortable doesn't mean you
- 8:11Speaker 2: shouldn't say it on a pillow for me this Christmas.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Please. That is totally my takeaway from these two episodes. Yes,
- 8:21Speaker 1: it is mostly in episode six and we'll get there eventually,
- 8:24Speaker 1: but can we talk about episode five first? I want
- 8:32Speaker 1: to talk about Kate's relationship with her mom, Delilah, And yeah,
- 8:36Speaker 1: it's an absolute scenestealer for me that obviously the relationship
- 8:40Speaker 1: is not perfect and I appreciate that, but the growth
- 8:44Speaker 1: in this episode that they experience is really special. I
- 8:47Speaker 1: really particularly loved the scene it actually occurs in episode six,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but it's built up throughout this episode where her mom
- 8:56Speaker 1: says to her. Delilah says to Kate, you don't get
- 8:59Speaker 1: to decide where I live. Like Kay has discovered that
- 9:01Speaker 1: Delilah has purchased this place in London, and she's like,
- 9:04Speaker 1: what are you doing here? And I was like, well,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I want to be close to you, but I love
- 9:08Speaker 1: that She's like, look, you don't have to be a
- 9:10Speaker 1: part of this, Like you can be as involved in
- 9:12Speaker 1: my life as you want, but you don't get to
- 9:15Speaker 1: decide where I live. You don't get to decide those
- 9:18Speaker 1: details of my life. Like I'm going to be.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Here for you and you can make your own choices,
- 9:23Speaker 2: but I do get to decide some things for myself.
- 9:26Speaker 2: And I just felt like it was truth bomb on
- 9:29Speaker 2: truth bomb and she's putting the ball very much in
- 9:32Speaker 2: Kate's court. Also, Delilah is just an absolute delight. She
- 9:39Speaker 2: says things like, my chakras are the least of my problems,
- 9:43Speaker 2: and she talks about her face and she says, oh no, honey,
- 9:45Speaker 2: that's just the botox talks.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I particularly enjoy her advice to Kate. She's like talking
- 9:52Speaker 1: about Callum versus Richard, and Dada was like, you got
- 9:55Speaker 1: to find a third man? Nothing like another option to
- 9:57Speaker 1: put the entire thing into focus, which kind of sage advice.
- 10:02Speaker 1: The transition from episode one, where Delilah existed off screen
- 10:06Speaker 1: as this phone call disappointing Kate, to now where she's
- 10:10Speaker 1: still so much her free spirited, funny self, but is
- 10:16Speaker 1: making an effort finally at this point to be the
- 10:19Speaker 1: parent that her daughter needs her to be.
- 10:22Speaker 2: They have a really cute scene where she comes to
- 10:24Speaker 2: Kate and Kate's in bed and she has brought her
- 10:27Speaker 2: breakfast in bed and she starts to leave the room
- 10:29Speaker 2: and Kate's like, you're not gonnact me eat all this
- 10:30Speaker 2: by myself, are you?
- 10:31Speaker 1: And she just like she's giddy that her daughter has
- 10:34Speaker 1: invited her to have this moment. I really enjoy that
- 10:38Speaker 1: relationship trajectory. Yeah, I I for one, really enjoyed Delilah's
- 10:43Speaker 1: redemption arc. She's a surprise MVP for me personally, because
- 10:48Speaker 1: when she came onto the scene, I was like, Oh,
- 10:50Speaker 1: she's just she's a lot She's a lot, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 1: she's a lot for Kate to handle. She's very like
- 10:58Speaker 1: in everybody's business. But that whole scene at her new
- 11:06Speaker 1: home with Kate was like I felt like I had
- 11:10Speaker 1: been in a physical fight after that scene, like I
- 11:14Speaker 1: was knocked out, like Kate said some of the like
- 11:20Speaker 1: really mean things to her to her mother, huh. And
- 11:25Speaker 1: I just love Delilah's response, Like you said, she says
- 11:28Speaker 1: like you don't you don't give me a permission to exist.
- 11:32Speaker 1: And she had this line that said, no matter how
- 11:35Speaker 1: much you punching me is wait, no matter how much
- 11:38Speaker 1: you punch me is going to change the past. And
- 11:41Speaker 1: I just was like, oh my god, it's so good.
- 11:45Speaker 1: These two together are so good. And there's something about
- 11:49Speaker 1: Mary McDonald's kadence. The way she speaks draws me in yes,
- 11:57Speaker 1: like I pay attention to what she is saying yes.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And she also has this almost put on accent.
- 12:06Speaker 2: That I really enjoy, Like it's I described her in
- 12:10Speaker 2: episode one, I likened it to Moira Rose from Shit's Creek.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's that, but it's her own. I could
- 12:18Speaker 1: just listen to her speak for two hours straight. Now,
- 12:20Speaker 1: let me ask you there was a scene where Kate
- 12:23Speaker 1: goes to work and she's talking to Nicola, Oh, Nicola, Nicola,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and she's telling her, Oh, there's this client who's like,
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know whatever, but she's American, And I was like,
- 12:35Speaker 1: wait a minute, Delilah's American. Oh yes, this like accent
- 12:41Speaker 1: or like inflection in her voice doesn't read American, No,
- 12:48Speaker 1: because I think it's put on. She's worldly, yes, Darling, Yeah, okay,
- 12:55Speaker 1: got it. Yeah she was. She was so great in this,
- 12:58Speaker 1: so great in this. And at the end when she
- 13:00Speaker 1: shows up with like some random dude, yeah, oh and
- 13:06Speaker 1: he's iggy and I'm trying him out. Yeah, It's just
- 13:11Speaker 1: it's just fun. She's so fun. She's a fun character. Like, I,
- 13:16Speaker 1: you know, bring me in a season two where we're
- 13:18Speaker 1: like looking at her life more. It doesn't even have
- 13:21Speaker 1: to be about dates anymore, right, Like maybe this cast
- 13:26Speaker 1: is then part of like dates for future people. I
- 13:29Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know how it works, but I
- 13:32Speaker 1: just need a season two with this cast. Indeed, I agree.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I want to talk about Richard for a second. Oh yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 1: or for a minute. The shine is wearing off, oh instantly.
- 13:44Speaker 1: In episode five, he's rude to to Kate's date, Charlie.
- 13:50Speaker 1: Charlie is a nice guy. Yeah, and they're out at
- 13:54Speaker 1: that like shopping market or whatever, and he's just like
- 13:57Speaker 1: he's just I felt like he was just rude. And
- 13:59Speaker 1: then he was like poking Kate about, like, oh, you're jealous.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I just know, dude, you're being petty and small and
- 14:07Speaker 1: I don't like anything about it. Because this was a
- 14:10Speaker 1: hard one for me because I was so wowie zouied
- 14:14Speaker 1: by Richard in episode one and two. I was like, man,
- 14:18Speaker 1: this guy is beautiful. I love his flirt game. I
- 14:22Speaker 1: love all of it. Right, and you had said like, hey,
- 14:26Speaker 1: maybe you said this, We're gonna come to a point
- 14:29Speaker 1: where we have to choose and we needed something to
- 14:33Speaker 1: go against Richard. Well here it was happening. Yeah, episodes.
- 14:38Speaker 2: I knew in our last episode that we were going
- 14:41Speaker 2: to be confronted with something that was gonna make us
- 14:43Speaker 2: take the bloom off of the Richard Rose. I think
- 14:47Speaker 2: the audience got there faster than Kate did. Yeah, but
- 14:51Speaker 2: actually that's one of my wishes.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I will get to it. But that was really the
- 14:55Speaker 1: scene because so Marjorie shows up first, Kate's talking to
- 15:00Speaker 1: her and she's like where's your date? And she's like, oh,
- 15:02Speaker 1: he's around here somewhere.
- 15:03Speaker 2: That's the moment my notes literally say oh no, and
- 15:05Speaker 2: then I wrote, OHFC, it's Richard.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Of course it's Richard. But I didn't like Richard in
- 15:12Speaker 1: that moment, like he's kind of accusatory, like, oh, are
- 15:15Speaker 1: you jealous? And yeah, Kate was spot on. She's like,
- 15:20Speaker 1: this is a little bit weird. We're dating each other.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Now, we're seeing each other with the other people that
- 15:26Speaker 2: like we both we both know the score, but it
- 15:28Speaker 2: is still a little bit weird to see them. And yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 2: maybe I am like a little jealous. I am a
- 15:33Speaker 2: little thrown.
- 15:34Speaker 1: It's very the Bachelor when they oh, yeah, he's going
- 15:37Speaker 1: on multiple dates and like you have to if you
- 15:41Speaker 1: were at a participant in not then you're like watching
- 15:43Speaker 1: that unfold. Yeah, it's going to be uncomfortable for sure.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the this is the turning point for
- 15:49Speaker 2: me with Richard. There's many of them, but Charlie on
- 15:55Speaker 2: this date. Charlie is lovely and cute.
- 16:01Speaker 1: He's yes, he's cute, and he.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Unfortunately for us, all this date really does is help
- 16:10Speaker 2: show Kate a little bit what she wants from her
- 16:12Speaker 2: career and from a relationship. She kind of seems to
- 16:14Speaker 2: realize like, oh I do want to be in a relationship,
- 16:17Speaker 2: and oh maybe I do want to spread my wings
- 16:21Speaker 2: a little bit with my career. So Charlie's a nice
- 16:24Speaker 2: vehicle for that. He plays into my wishes a little bit.
- 16:26Speaker 2: But when he takes her down into the Textile Archives,
- 16:30Speaker 2: he sees her, he knows who she is and what
- 16:32Speaker 2: she would like. That's a really lovely gift. And then
- 16:34Speaker 2: they have their terrible pizza together.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I thought that was very nice.
- 16:39Speaker 2: And then of course he has a hand in her
- 16:41Speaker 2: work via Nicola Landing in the museum. Yeah, he's like
- 16:45Speaker 2: a good guy. I needed a closed loop on Charlie.
- 16:49Speaker 2: What did Charlie end up with anyone?
- 16:51Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, I mean her heartbroken? He didn't end up
- 16:54Speaker 1: with Kate or what happened? What else did you like?
- 16:58Speaker 1: We have not talked about Julian Morris a whole lot
- 17:01Speaker 1: as Callum, and I think he is real good, especially
- 17:08Speaker 1: in episodes five and six, really good when he has
- 17:12Speaker 1: the scene between him and Kate. First of all, he
- 17:17Speaker 1: does that whole like do over date for her that
- 17:20Speaker 1: she doesn't mind a bat I loved all the intention
- 17:26Speaker 1: behind that, like he's like, Okay, I'm ready here and
- 17:28Speaker 1: this is I'm doing it right. And then she doesn't
- 17:30Speaker 1: show she's swooped away by Richard instead, which I hated. Yeah,
- 17:37Speaker 1: it's another point against Richard totally. But when they have
- 17:42Speaker 1: their big confrontation between Kate and Callum and talk about
- 17:46Speaker 1: mean things being said to each other, you know, obviously
- 17:50Speaker 1: there's like a lot of history there with friendship, but
- 17:52Speaker 1: there's a lot of hurt, right, And I think you
- 17:55Speaker 1: say a lot of mean things to people you love
- 17:58Speaker 1: the most. And oh god, this was heartbreaking to watch
- 18:02Speaker 1: for me when they have that big blowout. I'm not
- 18:06Speaker 1: here to make you feel better about the mess that
- 18:08Speaker 1: you made, Eeks Seeks and I don't trust you. I
- 18:13Speaker 1: don't know what you want or you don't know what
- 18:14Speaker 1: you want like all that. Oh my god. I was like,
- 18:18Speaker 1: oh no, there's no returning from this. So that date
- 18:21Speaker 1: that Kate missed with Callum, he's mad at her for
- 18:24Speaker 1: not showing up, and I'm like, she didn't do anything,
- 18:26Speaker 1: Like she's just showing up at the date. Like as
- 18:29Speaker 1: far as I could tell, she was like told to
- 18:31Speaker 1: go to this location.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Like Richard hijacked it. He masterminded. He was the one
- 18:36Speaker 2: who figured it out. She didn't know where she was
- 18:37Speaker 2: going or with whom in either case.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and but then we see that and fold like
- 18:45Speaker 1: Richard sees Callum at the hospital and he's like, yeah,
- 18:47Speaker 1: I took her away from you know. So Callum eventually
- 18:51Speaker 1: learns that it was Richard who took Kate, wasn't Kate's
- 18:54Speaker 1: decision in that matter. I just I really liked Julian Morris.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I like Callum. He's a complicated character. And I think
- 19:07Speaker 1: that's what I like about this show so much, is
- 19:09Speaker 1: that these characters are not one dimensional. There's just they
- 19:15Speaker 1: have so much baggage. And speaking of baggage, the scenes
- 19:19Speaker 1: between Evelyn and macof so they make me so happy
- 19:24Speaker 1: that Evelyn, Evelyn telling Callum like I'm not ready to
- 19:30Speaker 1: care for somebody, like she's been alone for ten years
- 19:33Speaker 1: and now all that now you know, she's thrown back
- 19:37Speaker 1: into like worrying about somebody she cares about. And then
- 19:41Speaker 1: they have her Mac have this like great scene and
- 19:43Speaker 1: she's like, but you know, I wouldn't trade my my
- 19:46Speaker 1: baggage for the world. It means I lived a full life. Yeah,
- 19:51Speaker 1: you know, like I have said for two episodes. Now,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I didn't care where Mac and Evelyn ended up, Like
- 19:57Speaker 1: it didn't need to be romantic for me. I just
- 19:59Speaker 1: really enjoy right, their need for each other and them
- 20:04Speaker 1: finding each other. But I am happy that they have
- 20:07Speaker 1: like a romantic thing because it just makes me happy. Yeah,
- 20:11Speaker 1: will you take me for a ride on that bank
- 20:12Speaker 1: of yours? Oh? I was so happy.
- 20:14Speaker 2: When they come to that understanding and then when they
- 20:17Speaker 2: have the conversation after he goes to the hospital. Oh
- 20:19Speaker 2: my goodness. I'm really happy that they found each other.
- 20:23Speaker 2: And I think you're right that her fears feel very
- 20:26Speaker 2: authentic and real, like she has lived a life and
- 20:29Speaker 2: so they are carrying baggage into it because they're humans
- 20:35Speaker 2: who have experiences.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But I needed them to have each other. Yeah, I'm
- 20:41Speaker 1: so happy about them. I liked Kate's work trajectory.
- 20:45Speaker 2: She talks about the longest thing we see with Nikola
- 20:48Speaker 2: Nicholas looking at these two sets of patterns that she's
- 20:50Speaker 2: working on, and she's not able to choose which one,
- 20:53Speaker 2: and it kind of mirrors what's going on in her
- 20:55Speaker 2: love life. Yeah, I'm glad we see the end of
- 20:59Speaker 2: these episodes her kind of breaking out.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I liked when her mom.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Showed up and her mom is layering praise on Nicola
- 21:08Speaker 2: and then she says, but that pattern was developed from
- 21:10Speaker 2: my lovely daughter, Like she's making sure that she gets
- 21:13Speaker 2: the recognition that she deserves. She's not just this cog
- 21:15Speaker 2: and the Nikola wheel. And I think Charlie does the
- 21:18Speaker 2: same thing. And as much as her mom is a
- 21:22Speaker 2: little bit meddlesome in going to Nicola to get her
- 21:25Speaker 2: to be the designer, it also was kind of the
- 21:27Speaker 2: push that she needed to go out on her own.
- 21:29Speaker 2: So that's a nice closed dish loop on her work situation.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I wanted more from Laura and we got it in
- 21:39Speaker 2: this episode. Yeah, and her realization that I don't actually
- 21:44Speaker 2: want to be partner. I don't really want this job anymore.
- 21:47Speaker 2: I want to go out on my own thought. It
- 21:49Speaker 2: was hilarious that her husband's like, yeah, you can be
- 21:51Speaker 2: a professional meddler. And then of course is her husband,
- 21:54Speaker 2: oh so great, rights such a good partner. I know
- 21:58Speaker 2: he's such a good partner, And there are so many
- 22:01Speaker 2: moments where he does it, like when when Kate's there
- 22:04Speaker 2: and unloading on her and he's kind of just in
- 22:06Speaker 2: the background reacting and oh, he's so good. I mean,
- 22:10Speaker 2: he bring him out more, but he's such a good
- 22:14Speaker 2: foil to Laura. And then of course the clothes loop
- 22:17Speaker 2: on that with her gifting Kate the contract of being
- 22:22Speaker 2: her first client as an attorney.
- 22:23Speaker 1: As she starts her business. Yeah. I love Laura. I
- 22:29Speaker 1: love all these characters. You know, when Laura goes into
- 22:32Speaker 1: the pantry and screams into a tea towel felt very
- 22:36Speaker 1: relatable right now.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:40Speaker 1: I laughed out loud when she did that. I laughed
- 22:43Speaker 1: out loud. Can we talk about my hypothesis that I
- 22:48Speaker 1: had in our last episode about Oh my gosh, Marjorie
- 22:52Speaker 1: and the Richard and the bracelet. Indeed, oh, pat myself
- 22:57Speaker 1: on the back. I shouldn't really wrong about these things.
- 23:00Speaker 1: You absolutely should. I was like, oh, it's all happening. Yeah, yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 1: And it just really showed like Richard was such a
- 23:09Speaker 1: kind of a douchebag, I know, such a disappointment honestly.
- 23:15Speaker 2: And the other writing was you could see how it
- 23:19Speaker 2: it the kind of on the wall, right, like he
- 23:20Speaker 2: was a little too good to be true, and you
- 23:22Speaker 2: were like, we don't really know anything about him, but
- 23:25Speaker 2: you could see how Kate would be drawn in because
- 23:27Speaker 2: he was charming and sending these sweet messages and buying
- 23:32Speaker 2: your gifts.
- 23:32Speaker 1: And I, you know, well done on the Richard arc.
- 23:36Speaker 1: But man, did I hate him at the end of
- 23:38Speaker 1: this episode too, when they're dancing and he's like, oh,
- 23:42Speaker 1: this is an opportunity now for us to get to
- 23:43Speaker 1: know each other, and she's like, what are you talking
- 23:45Speaker 1: about and he's like, oh, the twelve days are fantasy
- 23:48Speaker 1: and she's like, no, I've been sharing my truth. Yes,
- 23:52Speaker 1: what are you talking about, Like I'm finally glad, Like
- 23:55Speaker 1: she got there, like you know, she realized like he
- 23:59Speaker 1: was not well.
- 24:00Speaker 2: And he's like it makes he goes. It's just lucky
- 24:03Speaker 2: for me that it makes a good story that the
- 24:05Speaker 2: girl I stood up at the beginning is the one
- 24:07Speaker 2: I choose at the end.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Gross. Yeah, totally gross. But I did love when Drew
- 24:12Speaker 1: is dancing with her partner and she's like, h and
- 24:15Speaker 1: there she has her moment and I was like that
- 24:17Speaker 1: was great. Yeah, that was great, great, great, great.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I mean I like the birdhouses in the courtyard during
- 24:23Speaker 2: the final scene, a thoughtful way to update the courtyard
- 24:27Speaker 2: and bring Mack into it.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that was great.
- 24:31Speaker 2: The visual of his his coping mechanism.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Yeah, and what do you think about their kiss? I
- 24:38Speaker 1: loved their kiss. Kate and Caleum's like in the you know,
- 24:41Speaker 1: in the Oh, No, I need to talk about this
- 24:44Speaker 1: scene when Laura gifts herself as a lawyer for Kate
- 24:49Speaker 1: but then gives the gift that Klem had rights, oh
- 24:53Speaker 1: the napkin noodle, and then she she goes to the cafe.
- 24:58Speaker 1: She goes to the cafe and like throws it up
- 25:01Speaker 1: against the window like what is this? Yea, yeah, oh my,
- 25:06Speaker 1: it gave me chills, Like this was reminiscent of how
- 25:11Speaker 1: do you like them apples? From Goodwill Hunting? If you
- 25:14Speaker 1: remember the scene where he's like, I got the number
- 25:16Speaker 1: and he shows the number. Do you know what I mean?
- 25:18Speaker 1: I one hundred percent know what you're talking about. It
- 25:22Speaker 1: was so moving. I loved it. Then they go and
- 25:24Speaker 1: they have this conversation and you know about like where
- 25:28Speaker 1: the status of their they are, and he turns around
- 25:31Speaker 1: and walks away out into the courtyard and the courtyard
- 25:35Speaker 1: is all done up and they have their big kiss.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I loved it. It was a satisfying ending. Yes, I
- 25:43Speaker 1: loved it too. The napkin on the window moment had
- 25:47Speaker 1: a little bit of a different callback for me.
- 25:49Speaker 2: In fact, it was the Rows and Rachel. Rachel's closing
- 25:52Speaker 2: up Central Perk and Ross shows up and she turns
- 25:55Speaker 2: around and he's in the window.
- 25:57Speaker 1: And he comes in and they have their kiss.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Very yeah, very cinematic moments all around.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Very good. You know that's funny you bring up Ross
- 26:06Speaker 1: and Rachel because there was While I was watching this,
- 26:10Speaker 1: I was like, it kind of gave me that vibe
- 26:12Speaker 1: of like, here are these people who have known each
- 26:14Speaker 1: other for a long time and you know he's had
- 26:17Speaker 1: this like crush on her or whatever, right, Like it
- 26:21Speaker 1: kind of gave me like it played in that.
- 26:23Speaker 2: World too well. And I also this was in my digity.
- 26:25Speaker 2: That's what while we're talking about it, Laura is wearing
- 26:27Speaker 2: lobster pajamas during one scene, and of course Ross and Rachel,
- 26:31Speaker 2: he's her lobster and she's like team Callum and Kate.
- 26:35Speaker 2: It could be coincidental, could have to do with any
- 26:38Speaker 2: number of things, but I noted it.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I want those lobster pajamas. Real cute, very cute.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Well, now let's talk what you wished for in this episode.
- 26:49Speaker 2: I have two One is and we briefly touched on it.
- 26:52Speaker 2: But if anything, I wish Kate could have seen, just
- 26:55Speaker 2: for a moment, what we saw in Richard, just a
- 27:00Speaker 2: siny bit earlier, because even after the whole bracelet thing,
- 27:04Speaker 2: when she calls him out is like, it's a little
- 27:06Speaker 2: bit Sister Wives.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I laughed out loud. I know you loved Sister Wives.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I do. But she kind of like was like okay,
- 27:14Speaker 1: and then they're dancing again. Yes, And so I wish
- 27:20Speaker 1: I wish she had the realization like, oh, oh a
- 27:22Speaker 1: little bit earlier, but that's makes for good TV. It
- 27:26Speaker 1: does make for screaming, Yeah, it does make for good TV.
- 27:29Speaker 1: But like when she walks into that Parisian style date,
- 27:32Speaker 1: I'm like I wanted her to be like, oh, you
- 27:34Speaker 1: don't know me at all, Like this this isn't what
- 27:37Speaker 1: I want. Like you have the contrast of the date
- 27:39Speaker 1: that Callum has planned and Richard's date, and like, I
- 27:43Speaker 1: know that these dates have been fun and fancy, but
- 27:45Speaker 1: this isn't who she is. And he's like it's our thing,
- 27:48Speaker 1: and she's like is it? Yeah? Yeah, that was great.
- 27:52Speaker 2: And then even at the hospital, she you know, after
- 27:55Speaker 2: everything's okay with Mac and she sends everybody home, she
- 27:57Speaker 2: goes over and kind of like leans to Richard's embrace.
- 28:01Speaker 2: So she's still in on Richard in that moment. I
- 28:04Speaker 2: almost wonder if she's like this fictional character these thoughts
- 28:08Speaker 2: she's having, but if she's like, well, I've made this decision,
- 28:11Speaker 2: like I really need to lean into this relationship because
- 28:14Speaker 2: I'm here, like I don't, don't, I don't want to
- 28:18Speaker 2: be wrong.
- 28:23Speaker 1: I wanted a little bit more.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Time with Charlie. I wanted Kate to explore they clearly
- 28:34Speaker 2: had a connection. And I understand it's not gonna happen
- 28:38Speaker 2: like Callum is the guy, but she and Charlie had
- 28:40Speaker 2: a connection and she kind of writes him off because
- 28:42Speaker 2: he's geographically undesirable. And I wish we had maybe explored
- 28:46Speaker 2: that a little bit more. I know there's not time,
- 28:50Speaker 2: but I think we could have done maybe a little
- 28:52Speaker 2: more with that.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Well, okay, so speaking of time, if we had more
- 28:57Speaker 1: than six episodes, we could have I have like dove
- 29:02Speaker 1: a little deeper into these things, right, Like I would
- 29:05Speaker 1: have liked to see a little more of her work
- 29:08Speaker 1: stuff flashed out, you know, maybe not feeling recognized by Nicola,
- 29:11Speaker 1: right or whatever and the Charlie stuff. I just think
- 29:15Speaker 1: if we had more than six episodes, we could have
- 29:18Speaker 1: like double tapped deeper into exploring these kind of things.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I agree, you know, just like if you you know
- 29:26Speaker 1: we love the pit, right? How many episodes was that show? Ten? Fifteen? Oh? See? God,
- 29:33Speaker 1: I would have loved fifteen episodes of yes, yeah, just
- 29:38Speaker 1: so we can like dig in deeper to their motivations,
- 29:43Speaker 1: of their thoughts there whatever. Agree, Yeah, Do you have
- 29:49Speaker 1: any more wishes?
- 29:51Speaker 2: Nope? My only other wish is the transition from the
- 29:57Speaker 2: kiss at the episode end of episode four to episode five.
- 30:01Speaker 2: They're kind of in limbo. That could have been flesh
- 30:06Speaker 2: out a little bit more for me in terms of
- 30:08Speaker 2: Kate and Callum and how they went from Okay, we
- 30:10Speaker 2: had this kiss and now we haven't talked for several
- 30:13Speaker 2: days and Kate doesn't trust it and Callum doesn't understand.
- 30:18Speaker 1: What her reservation is.
- 30:20Speaker 2: And it does a good job of making it frustrating
- 30:24Speaker 2: for the viewer, like come on, see that he's the one.
- 30:28Speaker 2: But I also was like, wait a minute, it's such
- 30:31Speaker 2: a stark contrast in moods. I just wanted to get
- 30:34Speaker 2: back to that happy doodlely place.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah, totally. Well, let's talk. Did you see that? I
- 30:39Speaker 1: have two? Okay, one is a notable scene to me,
- 30:43Speaker 1: and another one is a thought. When Kate leaves her
- 30:47Speaker 1: date with Richard date twelve, and she is walking back
- 30:51Speaker 1: home and she sees her daddy have one and she
- 30:55Speaker 1: just crumbles into his arms. Oh my god, it was
- 31:02Speaker 1: such a good moving scene. May Whitman is so good.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I just love that scene so much. My other did
- 31:09Speaker 1: you see that? Is just a thought. And at the
- 31:12Speaker 1: end of episode six, I was like, you know, this
- 31:15Speaker 1: whole series for me tapped into a place of like
- 31:20Speaker 1: we go about living our lives and we like push
- 31:23Speaker 1: down or like lock away grief and fear and unfinished business.
- 31:28Speaker 1: And I just thought that was so relatable and I
- 31:34Speaker 1: love that Kate and these dates was were the catalysts
- 31:38Speaker 1: for opening all of that up for everybody. It just
- 31:42Speaker 1: was really a really good series, the best it deserves.
- 31:48Speaker 1: In the annual rewatch, do you have any did you
- 31:50Speaker 1: see that?
- 31:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Laura's daughter's octopus costume at the school play.
- 31:54Speaker 2: You cannot tell me that is not a love Actually,
- 31:56Speaker 2: eight is a lot of legs. David callback, Oh, we writers,
- 32:02Speaker 2: you got to let me know that I'm right about that.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I laughed out loud. The reveal about Max's panic attack
- 32:08Speaker 2: not being his first, I thought was really interesting because
- 32:11Speaker 2: we talked about the big difference in Mac from episodes
- 32:15Speaker 2: one and two to episodes three and four, where all
- 32:17Speaker 2: of a sudden he's got his life together, he's the
- 32:19Speaker 2: voice of reason, he's carrying them all on his back emotionally.
- 32:23Speaker 2: It was nice to your point about the things that
- 32:26Speaker 2: live under the surface that we don't really let see
- 32:28Speaker 2: the light of day, because I think that's exactly what's
- 32:30Speaker 2: happening here. That Mac moved on perhaps a little bit
- 32:34Speaker 2: too quickly from his accident, from the touches of depression
- 32:39Speaker 2: that we were seeing in his life change, and it
- 32:42Speaker 2: just speaks to the fact that he has some more
- 32:45Speaker 2: healing to do rather than just one day deciding everything's
- 32:48Speaker 2: fine and I'm gonna move on and it will catch
- 32:51Speaker 2: up with you, you know.
- 32:52Speaker 1: As an anxiety e Gerly, I appreciated that representation. I
- 32:55Speaker 1: bet you did.
- 32:56Speaker 2: The opening train look from episode one pays off in
- 32:59Speaker 2: the finale, you know when you see her leaving the
- 33:02Speaker 2: ball where she has left Richard behind, and it's that
- 33:05Speaker 2: exact same moment the corsage drops on the steps, you
- 33:07Speaker 2: see her sparkly shoes, and then you realize, you know,
- 33:11Speaker 2: you see her headed home on the train. I enjoyed
- 33:14Speaker 2: that callback and pay off. And finally the final scene
- 33:19Speaker 2: where Kate's dad and Evelyn are going to take off
- 33:23Speaker 2: on their motorcycle. She's like, I'm always going to be protective,
- 33:26Speaker 2: but I'm gonna let.
- 33:26Speaker 1: You live your life.
- 33:27Speaker 2: And then she's like, I took all the guests out
- 33:28Speaker 2: of the tank. She just she's gonna give him some freedom,
- 33:32Speaker 2: but in the end she's still who she is.
- 33:34Speaker 1: I have one more did you see that? For twelve
- 33:36Speaker 1: dates and for the listeners. This is an addition a
- 33:38Speaker 1: future editor's note that I can't believe I forgot to
- 33:41Speaker 1: mention this. Did you see that? At the Holiday ball?
- 33:46Speaker 2: While Kate is walking through, we see Sarah and Oliver
- 33:51Speaker 2: on the couch making out.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Oh stop, I didn't see that. Oh wow, was great.
- 34:02Speaker 2: They're together. Happy endings for everyone. I don't even need
- 34:07Speaker 2: to ask. Would you rate this episode?
- 34:08Speaker 1: Oh? Five stars? Yeah? Five ten twenty. Literally my notes
- 34:12Speaker 1: say five ten twenty all of the stars. Hey, thank you.
