Latest / Clinically Chaotic / Episode 9: Astrology For Self-Reflection
Transcript
- 0:07SPEAKER_03: Welcome back to Clinically Chaotic with Erica and Tara.
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: We are joined again by our friend Buddy for this episode that I'm really excited about.
- 0:21SPEAKER_03: It is gonna be all things astrology.
- 0:24SPEAKER_03: I want to start out by saying astrology is obviously not a clinical tool.
- 0:30SPEAKER_03: However, it can be used for self-reflection or having a deeper understanding of a person's personality traits or qualities, which could be fun for the curious minds.
- 0:45SPEAKER_03: I'll say that there's absolutely a difference between using astrology as a tool to gain insight about people rather than making assumptions based on stereotypes.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you guys have ever heard people talk like this, but I always find it funny when I hear people say things like, oh, I dated a Scorpio once, never again, or I can't stand a Libra.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: I think it's funny because that's for one, making an assumption when really it's just astrology, the zodiac signs, it's so much more complex than that.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: While I am familiar with astrology, I'm not an expert by any means.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: I do not claim to know all the things.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: It's kind of a special interest for me to incorporate metaphysical tools and my spiritual background into my everyday life.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: Erica, my understanding is that even though you're less familiar, you're still interested, kind of open.
- 1:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I'm sitting so far away from you.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Like you have germs and I'm afraid to catch them.
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: I think it's so fun.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: I think if anything, it builds community.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: I don't necessarily know anything because I'm not spiritual and spirituality is not my niche in any capacity.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: But a lot of times I find it a bridge to kind of connect to younger clients, specifically young adults, which is good because sometimes I have no idea what the fuck they're saying.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: And so if they can have something that they're excited about and I can know even a percentage of it, I feel like that builds the connection.
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: I just love to constantly expand my knowledge and things that are connective and community.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: And I'm not one way or another, like you said, it's not I have this lens and therefore I only do therapy this way.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: But to have anything that makes somebody happy, excited, feel connected to you in some way or another, I think is never a bad thing.
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: And then Letty, what about for you?
- 2:47SPEAKER_03: Your knowledge or kind of experience with astrology.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I love astrology.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: I think it's so fun.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And I also would agree, I am not an expert.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: And when someone's like, this is what time I was born, can you give me my whole birth chart?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Um, no, I can probably tell you what zodiac anymore.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: But outside of that, I'm, like I said, no expert, but it's just kind of fun to me.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I like to use it as one more tool of just trying to get a few fun facts about someone.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Like if you were to do the Meyer Briggs, you know, if you were to do, they talk about your, I don't know, any of the other assessments are like fun quizzes, you know, like are you an introvert?
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Are you an extrovert?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: All these different things.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: What are your aces?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, I'm totally kidding.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: But anyways, just all the really different types of scoring things or personality quizzes we like to give people.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: It's just another fun lens to look through.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: I could do a whole episode on like my Harry Potter house.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: I I just love like the little quizzes, the things that like I'm very curious.
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: It's fun to me.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: I think when sometimes when people learn that I'm familiar with astrology or the zodiac signs, I always kind of am approached with, um, all right, what do you think my sign is?
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: It's always like a guessing game.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: Um, but then once I've I've learned their sign, they'll be like, all right, you know, I'm a Virgo.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: What does that mean?
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: Tell me about me.
- 4:02SPEAKER_03: They'll want me to give like this description of who they are to see if it matches.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: In some way, yes, their personality traits and characteristics that align with each sign.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: I just think it's funny how people who are knowledgeable about it or truly just clueless and have no idea about astrology or their sign, it becomes kind of like a fun point of conversation and a learning opportunity.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: So kind of what I thought would be fun today is first, I want you both to kind of think of a couple core personality traits that that you identify with, or from your perspective, you feel like you have.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: For an example, mine would be I think I'm very open-minded.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: I think I have a lot of flexibility, come kind of go with the flow.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: I'm not super rigid.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: And I like conversation, I like communication.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: That's very much how I operate.
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: Um, those are kind of personality traits that I think describe me well.
- 5:10SPEAKER_03: So, right off the top of your heads, what kind of personality traits, characteristics do you guys think stand out in yourselves?
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: It's a great question.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: I realize I'm answering this knowing almost nothing about my own sign.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: But I will say the one thing that I do identify with or that people kind of point out in me oftentimes is my want or need or enjoyment of doing things independently.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: And so oftentimes I think I struggled to relate to my peers growing up because I didn't see things in the same way that they did.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: And I didn't understand why they weren't considering the bigger picture of things.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: So I did want to go off and do my own thing and come back on a side quest and then come back to my main friend group and hang out with them.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: But it was a lot of just doing my own thing at my own pace as I see fit and not engaging or caring to engage with things that other people really cared about.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: I also share that kind of hyperindependence, right?
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Even as I say that out loud, though, I think about trauma responses.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: As soon as I talk about that and we're talking about zodiacs, I'm like, there's so many other things that could be.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: But I'm also a hyper-independent girly.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Um, I do like to do things on my own, but I also really like connection.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: I don't like needing the connection, but I want the connection.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: I want to have fun.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I want to interact with my peers.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: I want to try new things and new experiences and really just generally have a good time.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Like to me, a good time isn't defined by what we're doing or how exciting necessarily the experience it is, but what the connection is with people, the who I'm doing it with, what we're talking about.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Because let me tell you, I've gone through a Dairy Queen drive-thru and had the time of my life.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: So really it's about the people and the connection, not the what so much.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, so with that, I'm going to read a little bit about each one of our signs, give kind of a description.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: This is very condensed, like I said.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: The signs, astrology, it's so complex, and I could spend so many episodes talking about each sign.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: And um, really, we're just focusing on our sun sign.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: So our main core sign that we tell people we are, based on when we were born, the day that we were born out of the year.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna read kind of little things about each one of our signs.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: I'm also gonna talk about how it may show up in our identities as therapists, and then we can talk about it, kind of reflect, see what fits, see what doesn't.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: We're gonna start with Erica.
- 7:45SPEAKER_03: Erica is an Aquarius.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: So anybody who is an Aquarius was born January 20th through February 18th, somewhere through there.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: And Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet of innovation.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: So innovation kind of is the overarching energy of Aquarius.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: Energy is associated with people who want to understand the world differently and live according to their own values rather than following the crowd, also known as the sign that marches to the beat of their own drum.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: They are highly independent, value freedom, and require personal space to themselves in order to function.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: They are open-minded and deeply care about people and larger causes, even when they may appear emotionally detached.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: They are innovative, future-focused, and great at seeing the bigger picture, often having unique or original ideas and are known as visionaries.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: An Aquarius may process feelings intellectually rather than openly expressing them or sitting with them, and tend to struggle with vulnerability, which can make them hard to read at times.
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: So that was condensed.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: I could talk a lot about kind of the Aquarius identity, but with that brief description, Erica, thoughts.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: Gosh, I get feedback on multiple of those things on a regular basis as you were reading them.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: And I was like, well, shit.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Maybe, maybe there's a thing.
- 9:22SPEAKER_02: So frequently from clients, from supervisors, from other colleagues, I get that I have no idea what you're thinking.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Can you explain that to me?
- 9:32SPEAKER_02: And I'd like to credit it to maybe controlling my facial features, but I know that's not true because if you've ever seen a candid photo of me, you'd know that I don't control my facial features well.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: I think sometimes I can be maybe more elusive.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: It's not intentional.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: I just have a lot going on up here.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: And not to say that I'm smart.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: The things that are going on are not always thought-provoking.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: Sometimes it's just like a chaotic library in my brain.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: And I think the other one that I get a lot is kind of the difficulty of maybe not being phased by things in the way that other people are.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: I think you summed it up in a more eloquent way, but I don't have those words right now.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: A lot of times when I'm sitting in a supervision and I'm talking about something that's particularly difficult or I think probably is impactful for other people, I watch supervisors kind of look at me like waiting for the moment that I like cry or that my face will flicker and I don't.
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Maybe some of that is early life experience, but I also think maybe part of that just is who I am as a person.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: That I don't know if I'm affected in the same way that other people are.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: And I like that about myself, that I can kind of compartmentalize the difference and the facts of what happened and be really curious about it.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: The emotion comes later.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: Does that make sense?
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: No, it absolutely does.
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: And I like that you point that out because a little background story.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: Erica and I have had a friendship for what 10?
- 11:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's been a long time.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: 10 years now.
- 11:10SPEAKER_03: And I can remember about four or five years into our friendship.
- 11:18SPEAKER_03: Um, Erica and I were hanging out one day.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: We were having a glass of wine in her backyard chatting.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: It was the first time in the five years of our relationship at that time that I had seen Erica cry.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: And Erica and I have worked in high-intensity jobs before.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: We've had a lot of breakups and nights out, and just we've lived many lives together.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: And all throughout that, I've only ever seen Erica shed a tear on this one particular day, which, like, granted, maybe the rose had something to do with the expression of motion emotions.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: But I think that is something that has always stood out to me, especially at the contrast of you and I, is that I'm very outwardly expressive of my emotions and just kind of all over the place.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: Whereas your emotions are there internally and they do exist, you know, deep internally, but they're not outwardly expressed.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: And I really enjoy that.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: It really does appear like you're just very kind of balanced and centered in some ways, even if maybe internally it doesn't feel like that.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: And I always appreciate that about you.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: I really like that that's how it looks from the outside.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of times I look at things and my immediate thought is like, huh, I wonder why that person did that.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: And it's weird that my thought is not what am I feeling about that?
- 12:52SPEAKER_02: It's just the curiosity of what's going on.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: And so the the emotion truly does not hit me until much later, and oftentimes after I've had time to reflect of all of the components of something.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: And so I can understand.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: I'm glad that you always conceptualized it as me having it together.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: I oftentimes skip the feedback of you just look like you have resting bitch face all the time.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: Like you're never responsive.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Somebody's trying to like do something to make you excited, and your response is thank you.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: Which is authentic for me.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: It's never to be a dick to other people, it's just that I take everything very lightly until I actually have time to reflect.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna circle back to you and your Aquarius sign and all the things, but we're gonna switch over to Letty.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: Uh Letty is a Sagittarius.
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: And if you were a Sagittarius, you were born sometime between November 22nd and December 21st.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: So Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, which is the planet of expansion.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, a Sagittarius is known for its big personality and desire to experience as much of life as possible.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: Um, they're often described as the person who wants to book a spontaneous trip or try something new, say yes to an unexpected opportunity.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: Similar to an Aquarius, they tend to crave freedom and kind of dislike feeling restricted or micromanaged in any way.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: They stereotypically are the playful, energetic, funny kind of friend within the group associated with finding the silver lining and using humor to get through difficult situations.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: And they can be very direct.
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, they value honesty.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: There's obviously a lot that comes into a sign.
- 14:52SPEAKER_03: Like I said, everything is very complex, but Letty, just based off this kind of initial information.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: What are your thoughts?
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: So, yes, a Sagittarius.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: I also like to refer to myself as a sassittarius.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I'm a sadisarius as well.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Really, just depending on the, you know, the moon, the sun, the stars, the temperature of the wind.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: All that tracks pretty strongly.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: I'm not that per well, I don't know.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: I want to be like, I'm not that person who my zodiac side is my whole personality, but the reality is I feel like it is quite a bit because so much of it does align with me.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Um, I would say I am that friend that's very loud and exciting and likes to plan things like camping trips.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: I like to take trips with friends.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: I do like to experience as much as I can.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: It's not about necessarily the what you're doing, but it's just having those fun experiences with people.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: I'm a very big extrovert.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Almost everyone knows me.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: And I think some feedback I've gotten, like just in my lifetime, especially in workplaces, is a new staff will come, they'll meet me, and they'll say something along the lines of, I've heard a lot about you.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: And everyone seems to know you as we're having this conversation.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: 10 people have walked up to me and said hi or given me hugs.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: I'm just a certified yapper who likes to see what's going on with people.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: I want to learn about people and I don't know.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: I like care.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: It's fun.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: It's fun to connect and talk.
- 16:15SPEAKER_03: I feel like that is so unbelievably accurate because um Erica has been my previous coworker, but Letty is my current coworker.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: And I've been working at this agency for a little over a year and a half now.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: And I remember the first couple of weeks coming into this job, the onboarding, the new hire training, it's a lot.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: And I remember looking to my supervisor and kind of asking for some sort of direction or someone that could maybe.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: I was also new to the area.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: So I was adjusting to not having any friends or connections locally.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: I remember my supervisor encouraging me.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: Have you met Letty yet?
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: And had actually encouraged me to go make conversation with Letty, ask questions if I'm needing help.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: Honestly, that is completely outlining exactly what happens in this office, in this workspace and in her personal life.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: She's really easy to make conversation with.
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: She has a big personality that draws people in and is like very comforting and grounding.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: So I appreciate it.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Well, and thank you.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: And I will say though, I also do connect with Erica because for those of you who are really in the works of Sagittarius and have, what is it, co-star, I believe, downloaded on your phones, you'll see you have those big three, and my big three are are actually Sagittarius, Aquarius, Aquarius.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: So I tend to get along with Aquariuses very well.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: And other air signs for those of you who really know how that breakdown works.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Um, your supervisor may be a little biased because she is also a Sagittarius.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: So she might be a little biased in her uh advocation to reach out to another Sag in the office.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: But um, thank you.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: I appreciate that.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I just like to be friendly.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: I love a Sagittarius, I love an Aquarius.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: There is a pattern in my life of naturally gravitating towards a uh Sagittarius, which I don't know how deep into you are, but we are sister signs and so it makes sense, but my dad is a Sag.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: My dad's a Gemini.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, interesting.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: Okay, this makes even more sense.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: It's just, it's fun.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna take a quick pause again with the Sagittarius and we'll run through kind of some stuff around a Gemini.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: So I am a Gemini.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: If you're a Gemini, you were born between May 21st and June 20th.
- 18:34SPEAKER_03: Really quick, I want to take a pause and say I love how you made the comment about how your zodiac sign is not your whole personality or anything.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: I will be the first to say um my zodiac sign being a Gemini is absolutely the entirety of my personality.
- 18:50SPEAKER_03: I have the Gemini symbol tattooed on my foot.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: I have the word Gemini tattooed across my leg.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: I eat, sleep, and breathe the identity of being a Gemini.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: And really couldn't give two fucks what anybody has to say about it because I love this shit.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: Just had to preface that real quick.
- 19:12SPEAKER_03: Geminis are ruled by Mercury, which is the planet of communication.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: They are naturally curious and love conversation, they are adaptable, flexible, and often have multiple interests or hobbies, projects happening at once.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: Um, Geminis hate to be bored, they love stimulation and having different experiences and a packed schedule.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Geminis are not the people who can sit around and hang out all day long on the couch.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: Um, they need to be stimulated, they don't do well being bored.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: Geminis are known to be open-minded, they thrive on variety.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: However, they can be very indecisive and at times prone to overthinking.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: To reflect, I feel like I match Gemini identity so well.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: I connect with all of it.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: I can get bored very easily.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: And I feel like even this podcast is an example of one project that I'm working on.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: My schedule is just constantly packed, and that is honestly what feels comfortable and most natural for me.
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: But I guess I will ask you to.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: No, absolutely.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: So, as Tara had mentioned, basically your sister sign is whatever sign is the like six months opposite of you.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: So I'm in December, she's in June, those dates sign up, she is my sister sign.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: So I've actually had a lot of friends in my life that have been Geminis and a lot of humans in my life that have been Geminis throughout the duration of my existence.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: One that I would also like to add is Geminis are really loyal.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: And I think that's an air sign thing in general.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: I think Geminis can be loyal like almost to their own detriment.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: As I think a Sagittarius can be adventurous and explorative to their own detriment, aka our bad rep is the noncommittal sign, which is like I said, I'm in a committed relationship.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: It's fine.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: You can't put me there anymore.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: But like it's one of those things where I think we all have like those positive aspects of our sign as well, right?
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: And then we all have some negative, and I think all the positives are tracking.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: And I have not seen your loyalty be to your own detriment, but I have seen you be a very loyal and committed friend.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: The other fun thing about your sign is the way that loyalty integrates into the new experiences and your guys' need for connection.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: I think that's why our signs get along so well, is because we're both able to connect and try new things and we keep each other on our toes and stimulated.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: I love that you said all that.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: I feel like that was so spot on.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: Just hearing someone else say it is so nice sometimes.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: I feel like I very rarely find myself being surrounded by people who do have the knowledge, which is not a bad thing by any means.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: I love being the friend to show up and teach people a little bit about their sign.
- 22:41SPEAKER_03: Again, not saying that I know a ton, but it is nice when somebody shows up and does kind of speak the language because then you also get to hear other people's perspectives.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: It's all very fitting.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: It's all very exciting.
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: So the other thing I wanted to do is because we're all therapists, I did a little research on kind of how your sign characteristics of your personality things could show up in your work based on the sign that you are.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: For each of our signs, I looked up a little bit of information about how it might show up in your identity as being a therapist.
- 23:19SPEAKER_03: So for starters, Erica being the Aquarius, I found that because you are naturally curious, this is a strength in your sessions, because you have this natural curiosity about how others think or their experiences, which obviously in the clinical setting, this is really important to make sure your client feels your therapist has a genuine interest in what you're talking about and kind of the experiences you're having.
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: And so for an Aquarius, that just comes naturally.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: You don't really have to work at that.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: It also may be that an Aquarius enjoys exploring unique perspective or ideas.
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: Again, they're always challenging the norm.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: And so when they see or hear about others challenging the norm, that could be really inspiring and motivating, make for good work.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: And another strength for an Aquarius therapist may be having really strong skills helping clients see new perspectives because you are good at seeing the bigger picture of things, helping to kind of bridge that for your client so that they can also see new perspectives.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Obviously, these are just a couple of things, but any thoughts on these or anything just based on learning a little bit about your sign, you think kind of correlates to when you're in session and doing your work?
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: I could see that.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of my sessions early on are asking a lot of questions and really exploratory work.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: Oftentimes I think I hit a nerve with people because they will say something along the lines of like, I've never thought about it like that before.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: And it's not because I'm enlightened by any means.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, at this point in time, you guys have all heard me talk and you know that it's I'm not saying something crazy profound at that moment, typically early on.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: But I think I do look at a lot of different angles immediately.
- 25:12SPEAKER_02: And I present all of them, and they're not always great, but I think just the ability to demonstrate to people that there are multiple aspects that you can look at a situation, that it's never one-sided.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: And it is easy for me to immediately lean into multiple things, whether it's even aligned with my own values or even just considering open options.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: I will say a big part of my personality that has really served me in being quote-unquote an Aquarius and also a therapist is my open-mindedness.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: I've gotten feedback from clients many, many times that they never feel judged and that that is really important to them.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: And they haven't always felt that way with therapists.
- 25:53SPEAKER_02: I genuinely feel connected to everybody on my caseload, but also I never feel any judgment towards them, not only because of who I am as a person and the things that I've gotten up to, but also just because I am curious and I don't hold a perspective or good or bad.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: I operate in that gray area, I think, a lot more than maybe typical people do.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I like that.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: Actually, now I'm curious because we were talking about kind of how you intellectualize um or kind of the Aquarius energy is known to intellectualize rather than maybe really sit with the feelings that you're experiencing.
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: So, like when you are with your clients, do you notice yourself gravitating towards a certain type of client that maybe also is wanting to intellectualize rather than needing to sit with their feelings?
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: Or do you feel like you struggle when clients are needing to just sit with feelings and not needing to intellectualize?
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: I do struggle.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Sometimes I have to remind myself of the work that we do.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: That being said, I do a lot of CBT and solution-focused therapy because I am immediately more comfortable in that space versus I have ruled out certain trainings.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: Like I don't think EMDR is for me.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: I know it's a great way to help clients process trauma.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: I also know that processing really serious trauma like that means a lot of sitting in the feelings.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: And that is not my strength.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: I don't gravitate towards it at all.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: I'm more logical than emotional always.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: And so really just opening up my brain to what is going on and understanding versus how am I feeling about it and how am I affected by it is my go-to.
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: And see that self-awareness is just amazing.
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: And so for Letty, I also actually was going to add, I have other friends in the field that are Aquariuses as well.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: And a recurring theme that we've talked about that was a huge strength of hers is like the directness of an Aquarius.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: When you're talking about solution-based therapy, it's really important that you can be honest and transparent and direct with your client.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Because if you're sitting in therapy and you guys aren't on the same page or your client isn't actually able to identify what the problem is or recognize a pattern, right, that they're displaying, that they're coming back the same week, talking about the same thing with the same actions.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: If you can't have, you know, those courageous conversations with your client around what your experience are and what you're hearing or seeing that they're experiencing, you're not going to get anywhere.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Being a therapist that's bold enough to be able to have those potentially uncomfortable conversations is so important.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: And you're kind of doing a disservice when you can't do that.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: And so that's just another strength of Aquarius.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: I feel like that as we're talking about this, I've obviously never been sitting across from you in the other chair, right?
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: But I'm assuming that also comes up frequently and is a need in your engagement when you're talking with your clients.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: And I definitely never shy away.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: So much so that I think it catches other people off guard sometimes.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: But I am mindful about making sure I give the appropriate amount of time to build a relationship before I'm delivering that direct feedback, even though in my brain, I want to deliver it the first time I meet someone because I can see the pattern and I'm considering all the angles.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: And it's very easy for me to be like, oh, A, B, and C.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: But I know from work in the field that I have to give it a regular amount of time, much more than I naturally would, to be able to connect so that other person can receive it.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Unless, and I hate to say this because I'm not huge on astrology and it's not my whole thing, but I have noticed that if I am in session with somebody who is a Capricorn or an Aquarius, they tend to prefer that straightforward communication from me.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: And so I think it helps them connect.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: Oftentimes, even in a first session, they will say, I want you to tell me how it is immediately.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: And I love working with clients who are on that same page.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: Just really quick, because this just came up in my head.
- 30:02SPEAKER_03: Have either of you guys, and I don't know if either of you guys are currently working with your own therapists, if you guys are or past therapists and providers that you've seen, have you guys ever asked or explored what your therapist's zodiac sign was before you started working with them?
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: Mine wasn't a before.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: It was a it was a like during mid-session one day, and I had said something and I paused and I remember very distinctively.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: So it was kind of like a pause head tilt, like, hey, what's your sign?
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: Just having that reflective moment.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: Um if I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure she said she was a Leo.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, and the thing about fire signs that I think is fun is I think as a fire sign, the older you get, even though I'm like, I'm a reformed Sagittarius, is what I'll tell people.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: She was in that same boat, reformed Leo, right?
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: She's like, I'm older, I'm calm down, I'm chill now.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: But I think uh those fire signs tend to really flock to one another in her.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: And I had a great rapport, and she was a great therapist.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: I can see that entirely.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: I absolutely.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: I've only worked with a couple therapists, but it's typically one of the first questions I ask.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: And again, not because I'm making judgments or assumptions, but because I genuinely feel like I could have some additional knowledge of knowing how my therapist is operating, what they're hearing, what their approach might be.
- 31:18SPEAKER_03: I feel like just dynamically, it all could make more sense to me, given that I do have some knowledge about it.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: And so with that, we're gonna talk a little bit about the Sagittarius as a therapist and kind of what things you relate to, Letty.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: So briefly says that a Sagittarius, their therapeutic superpower is also helping clients see the bigger picture.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: Their vibe is typically let's understand what's happening, challenge the narrative that isn't serving you, and explore what's possible.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: They may particularly enjoy helping clients connect their present struggles with their values, identity, worldview, and future goals.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: They're interested in existential questions, identity, purpose.
- 32:06SPEAKER_03: They enjoy helping clients consider alternative interpretations, recognize limiting beliefs, and see options that they couldn't previously see.
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: I immediately giggled as you were going through that list because I was thinking of my last week of sessions where I said to a parent, I'm gonna challenge that a little bit.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: Value work is like a really big recurring theme.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: I work with uh individual kids and their families, and a really big conflict we see between kids and parents is they're not on the same page with their values or even with like congruent parenting.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: And so that's a really big framework in what I utilize when I'm working with kids and adults of like all ages.
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: I also was gonna say, I think that all also tracks in that non-directive play therapy is like my really big vibe because I tend to work with littles, like 10 and under is my big demographic.
- 32:53SPEAKER_00: Allowing a kid to explore and present what is going on for them internally through play is really important because I think when you're talking about that bigger picture that Sagittarius sees or the existential, oh my gosh, crisis.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: Um, and all those things that are going on our value or identity.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: For me, observing the kid play can provide so much of that information.
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: And it really gives me a framework to work on when I'm like work off of when I'm working with the kids and the parents later on.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: And I think for me, that non-directive play therapy kind of unfortunately aligns with that non-committal thing of Sagittarius.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: It doesn't need to be this really structured and rigid thing, especially when you're working with kids with trauma.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: So really meeting them where they're at is so important to me.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: As someone who is also very stubborn and strong-headed and works with a lot of kids who have similar strengths, giving a sense of control back is really important.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: And I know that's something I love to thrive in as well.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: So just try to meet these guys where they're at.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 33:54SPEAKER_03: I do love working with the littles.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Um, I recently have not been working with the littles as much, but I can totally see how your personality, you probably thrive in your sessions with that age level and kind of demographic because that just seems so fitting, the energy and kind of the way that you can probably make things lighthearted and not have a ton of structure, but enough structure to still get shit done.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: I think that when we were talking about right, I'm a yapper, I'm a talker, I'm very personable or whatever.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: It's a lot of feedback I've gotten from my clients and the parents are very much like, you're just really relatable.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: You seem really real, you seem really chill.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: So I think that comes through really well too, depending on what other people's perceptions of what a therapist should be like.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: I think that can also be really off-putting simultaneously for some, where we've had to work through and talk about those things.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Because for some people, a therapist is supposed to be a professional that shows no feelings, no emotions.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: You're supposed to come in, say the thing, tell me what to do, and then we're moving on with our day.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: It's given me strengths in that way, but I think it's also not in strengths with other people.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it goes back to that whole underlying thing of feeling connected to your therapist, and that's really important.
- 35:07SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 35:09SPEAKER_03: We're all very compatible.
- 35:10SPEAKER_03: Obviously, we talked a little bit about the sister signs, and you and I are both air signs.
- 35:15SPEAKER_03: And so I want to talk a little bit about compatibility.
- 35:19SPEAKER_03: Um, briefly, I will kind of overview what the Gemini therapist looks like clinically.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: But honestly, when I was reading through it, it sounds very similar to the same of your guys'.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: And so talked about how the Gemini therapist is naturally curious, always wanting to learn about people's stories.
- 35:37SPEAKER_03: They have strong rapport-building skills, especially through conversation.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: Because, again, ruled by um Mercury or planet of communication, the Gemini therapist superpower is said to be making connections.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: It's our energy is traditionally associated with gathering information, recognizing patterns, asking questions, and then making connections between seemingly unrelated ideas.
- 36:03SPEAKER_03: And I think sometimes, I don't know, I haven't been a therapist for long.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: I've been working in mental health for about 12 years.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: I've been working with kids for about 15 years.
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: And this is very fitting because sometimes I really do feel like I am often bypassing a lot of the structured, nitty-gritty bookwork, uh, assignments, therapeutic approaches, all of that stuff.
- 36:29SPEAKER_03: There's a time and place for it where my skills really shine, is just genuinely being able to connect with the client about therapeutic stuff or not.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: Maybe we're talking about our favorite meal or, you know, something completely unrelated, but I feel like I do have this natural ability to professionally and deeply connect with my clients that feels fulfilling and keeps the treatment motivating for both of us in some way.
- 36:58SPEAKER_03: And I was looking up some compatibility stuff and I wrote down this one sentence.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: It says, as therapists, the Aquarius therapist might focus on the bigger picture while the Gemini may focus on the individual themselves.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: And I thought that was cute because I think both ways are important and serve a purpose.
- 37:22SPEAKER_03: A client who comes to me is gonna get one thing, a client that comes to you is gonna get a different thing, a client that goes to Letty may get something different, and all of them serve like a valuable purpose.
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: Vastly different things, actually.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: So about to say, even just hearing it, reflecting on how I'm more CBT-based, structured, and then going to Letty, you're gonna get that open play therapy.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: And then you're more trauma-informed, it seems.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: And so you're constantly integrating that into your crisis management.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: And so, despite the fact that we're all in the field, not one of us is approaching this in the same way.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: And I will say the unique thing about the programs that Tara and I work in is we have opportunities to work together.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: It's very rare, but there are times when we've gone out together.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: So getting to see how Tara speaks to clients or interacts with them is she does great.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: And she does do all these things.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: I do think that's the thing I love about where we currently work is like very rarely do you actually get to be with a colleague when they're in the middle of giving an intervention with another kid or with a uh client or a child or a family member or whomever.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: You don't always get to observe it because that's just not how traditional therapy is set up, dependent upon areas you've worked in, right?
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: In different settings.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: That is something that is rare.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: I just want to vouch for Tara's therapeutic interventions.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: They are legitimate.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: I've witnessed them with my own tune as.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: So I just very rarely do we get those things.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: So, like I said, kudos where kudos are needed, you know.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: Wow, that was wonderful.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much.
- 38:49SPEAKER_03: I'm flattered.
- 38:50SPEAKER_03: And honestly, I could truly talk about this topic for episodes, hours, all day long.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: For the purpose of time, I wanna kind of end on a funny, silly question that actually two funny, silly questions.
- 39:08SPEAKER_03: One of them's a little quicker than the other.
- 39:10SPEAKER_03: Um, so I'll ask and then we can go around and give our answers, our thoughts, whatever feels comfortable.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: So, first question in the spirit of the season of fall time, Halloween is upcoming.
- 39:24SPEAKER_03: Are you guys team hocus pocus or team Halloween time?
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Why would you put two miraculous things in competition with one another?
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Oh my goodness.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: Um Wow.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go the opposite.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna say Hocus Pocus, but I want to put the justification both are incredible.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: That being said, I don't think Halloween Town came out until after I had already watched Hocus Pocus for the first time.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: A lot of memories of being cuddled up on my aunt's couch specifically, and she would make freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: They were so good.
- 40:08SPEAKER_02: I don't know how she did them.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: They were always soft in the center.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: And then my uncle would sit there because he was the best uncle, and he would always watch all the kids' movies with me that none of the adults ever wanted to watch.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: And so that was always a staple in rotation.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: So when it comes on, I feel like it's almost the I can almost smell the chocolate chips and just like the happy feelings of being fully immersed in that moment.
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: That's beautiful.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: I feel like I'm still holding out to find out I am Marnie Piper.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: And also, sorry, the sequels to so to me, it's like a whole marathon event.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: Hocus Pocus 2 just didn't do it for me, guys.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: I just waited all those years.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: It was upset.
- 40:46SPEAKER_03: I will agree.
- 40:48SPEAKER_03: I absolutely love both Halloween Town and Hocus Pocus.
- 40:52SPEAKER_03: I do followen town side because Halloween Town 2, Calabar's Revenge, was just as good as Halloween Town 1.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: I don't really care about the third or fourth one or any of the ones that come after that, especially when they change up the the main girl, Kimberly Brown.
- 41:09SPEAKER_03: But I am Halloween Town.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: I think, even though both are amazing.
- 41:14SPEAKER_02: Did you know that Kimberly Joe Brown married the guy who plays Cal?
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: Which is I think it makes it sweeter.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: Like it adds an additional layer of the cuteness of that movie.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 41:27SPEAKER_03: I actually did note that.
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: I think I follow her on Instagram.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: Final question for the sake of time.
- 41:35SPEAKER_03: It is the season of gratitude, fall, fall time.
- 41:40SPEAKER_03: So reflecting on what we feel most grateful for right now, initial things that come to mind.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: That's a great question.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: I think when I'm thinking about gratitude, sometimes I'm moving so fast it's hard to stop and pause and truly think about it.
- 41:55SPEAKER_02: But I think in this season, more than anything, I've been really grateful for the flexibility of my friendships.
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: I was in the midst of transitioning between jobs and I was working nonstop.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: And I was a mediocre at best friend at that point.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: And so for the last month, all of my friends have allowed me so much leadway to be rescheduling or bumping things out an hour or even just coming over and changing our plans and hanging out on my couch and just shooting shit.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: And I've really needed that.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: I am eternally grateful to all of my friends who've allowed that to happen.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: I'm honestly kind of in the same boat.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: I've feel in this season of my life, I'm gonna be 32 in December.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: And I feel like as I look at my growth, and even as we've had previous conversations about the timeline of growth, it I feel like I'm at a point where I genuinely am so safe in my friendship connections.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: Looking back on the anxiety and the drama and all these other things, part of that is youth, right?
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: That you grow out of.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: But I genuinely feel so good to have all these safe friendships where it's the friendships don't feel as transactional and they feel genuine.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: And it's not, well, what can I do for you?
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: Like, what can you get from me?
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Slash, then I can't roll, I can't rely on you or depend on you.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: And so I don't know, that safety is just something I've strived for for a long time.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: And to feel like I have found it in my groups of friends, just it feels it feels really good.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: And it feels, like I said, safe.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: That's something we don't all always get all the time.
- 43:29SPEAKER_03: So no, not at all.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: And I love the word safe in general.
- 43:34SPEAKER_03: So mine feeling grateful for so many things right now.
- 43:38SPEAKER_03: But I think since we're here kind of collaborating today, I wanna Erica and I both really just want to say how grateful we are to everyone who has been listening to the episodes, following our social media accounts, reaching out with questions, collaboration, feedback.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: It's always invited.
- 43:59SPEAKER_03: And this has been really fun.
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: Obviously, it's new and we're still figuring things out, learning as we go.
- 44:06SPEAKER_03: But I'm feeling really grateful just for all the support we've received and kind of this opportunity to connect in a fun, exciting way where we're kind of extending that out to a bigger audience and getting to invite people to host with us.
- 44:24SPEAKER_03: And um, in some way, it's kind of really I don't know, maybe strengthened or kind of changed the dynamic of our own friendship.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: This is kind of a fun chapter that we're in together.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: And so feeling really grateful for that right now.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: It's very kind of you.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: I think in a lot of ways it's humanized our friendship, in that sometimes when we used to talk about work, it would just be processing the heavy stuff.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: And it's nice to be able to focus on the lighter stuff.
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: And if I can shift to a lighter question, because this has been popping in and out of my head in this entire conversation, and I'm amazed that I held on to it for this long.
- 44:58SPEAKER_02: But I am curious, and this is a question for all of our listeners, your astrological sign and your modality in therapy.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: I want to know.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: I want to know if they line up.
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: I want to know if it's a one-off and we're the weirdos, all being different.
