- 2:29Speaker 1: seven pm until six am, So keep that in mind. Again,
- 2:35Speaker 1: it is starting up Wednesday. I will remind you we're
- 2:39Speaker 1: looking at the news over the weekend, not I mean,
- 2:44Speaker 1: other than the Swanton shooting, which everybody is talking about
- 2:50Speaker 1: this morning. Yeah, another weekend, another shooting here in Vermont.
- 2:58Speaker 1: We have the Mounting crewsh that is picking up some
- 3:03Speaker 1: steam this morning. Other than that, it was dare I say,
- 3:10Speaker 1: in uneventful weekend news wise. I know there were a
- 3:16Speaker 1: lot of motorcyclists that were out and the Revolution Ride.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I mean, it was just a lot of a lot
- 3:26Speaker 1: of bikers that were out and it was just fantastic yesterday.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I don't know if you were like me or not,
- 3:38Speaker 1: but I was just Chrilyn and Lily and I were
- 3:42Speaker 1: just trying to stay warm. Man. It's like if the
- 3:47Speaker 1: if the wind would stop whipping for more than five minutes,
- 3:53Speaker 1: we just start getting warm and then the wind would
- 3:56Speaker 1: pick up again. It was chilli yesterday, really chilly. But
- 4:02Speaker 1: Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms. And I
- 4:06Speaker 1: hope you had a fantastic weekend no matter what you

- 4:16Speaker 1: pretty good rain on Saturday, but things drying up yesterday,
- 4:20Speaker 1: which was nice. We have a sunny start to the
- 4:24Speaker 1: day and the work week this morning, and we're going
- 4:28Speaker 1: to rebound nicely seventy five degrees later today, which is
- 4:32Speaker 1: just so nice. I love that sunny and seventy five.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Didn't that just just rings so nice to say that? Tonight?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Some clouds down around forty seven. I think it was
- 4:45Speaker 1: a Rilyn was telling me there was a frost warning
- 4:50Speaker 1: in some parts this morning across fromont I think mostly
- 4:55Speaker 1: in the valleys. But we're looking at some clouds tomorrow
- 5:00Speaker 1: and Tuesday, highs around seventy five. Nice temperature, and then
- 5:05Speaker 1: Wednesday some sunshine and some clouds both but seventy seven,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and then I'm here in rumors that we're supposed to
- 5:13Speaker 1: be dropping back into the upper fifties. So after that anyway,
- 5:18Speaker 1: Birthdays today, I think we have a couple of them,
- 5:22Speaker 1: unless they've slipped by me this morning. Yes, right here,
- 5:27Speaker 1: they have slipped by me. There were a couple of
- 5:30Speaker 1: names that were jumping out at me too. Let's see.

- 6:49Speaker 1: very good day in a good week to you this morning.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I have a lady who I have known longer than
- 7:01Speaker 1: I thought I did, Norma, welcome to air it out.
- 7:10Speaker 1: It is such a pleasure to have you in here.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Good morning. I've met you sometime in the nineties, is
- 7:21Speaker 1: that right it? Yeah? Tell us about you because you
- 7:28Speaker 1: are You're a familiar lady, especially in Northfield, but especially
- 7:35Speaker 1: around central Vermont and the Bury area. We see you often.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I have seen you often, and you have walked past
- 7:49Speaker 1: the studio here a million times, and there's been a
- 7:55Speaker 1: couple of times where I've run out and said hi
- 7:58Speaker 1: to you. But I'm so glad that finally sitting down
- 8:01Speaker 1: with me here in our studio. We're going to talk
- 8:05Speaker 1: about your life, which is pretty hard. You've had You've
- 8:12Speaker 1: had quite a story, quite a story you have. And
- 8:19Speaker 1: you know, we on Wednesday, the middle of the week,
- 8:25Speaker 1: we we like to dive headfirst into the message of
- 8:32Speaker 1: hope and resiliency. And you are starting out the week
- 8:38Speaker 1: with exclamation points on those subjects, are you not? I mean,
- 8:43Speaker 1: you really are one tough lady. You talk about real,
- 8:48Speaker 1: you talk about raw. Uh. This is it right here?
- 8:54Speaker 1: Where'd you grow up Northfield, in Northfield, Okay, how old
- 8:59Speaker 1: are you now?
- 9:00Speaker 2: On sixty two?
- 9:02Speaker 1: Okay, sixty two? So I've known you for between twenty
- 9:08Speaker 1: and thirty years something like that. It's crazy amazing. When
- 9:17Speaker 1: people see you, they know there's something about that lady.
- 9:26Speaker 1: She's got a story. You have a walker that is
- 9:33Speaker 1: unlike other walkers. It is a standing walker.
- 9:37Speaker 2: It's an upwalker.
- 9:38Speaker 1: It's an upwalker. Okay.
- 9:41Speaker 2: They make them to your height and wait.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Okay, and that's how you get around it. You've been
- 9:51Speaker 1: getting around with this walker for a long time.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I've had a lot of different walkers.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Okay, So you know, I just saw you, and I've
- 10:08Speaker 1: seen you more than you know I'm seeing you. But
- 10:12Speaker 1: I just saw you getting off a bus not too
- 10:15Speaker 1: long ago, public transportation, and not today, not today, but
- 10:22Speaker 1: within the last couple of weeks. And I said, man,
- 10:29Speaker 1: it's it is high time that I get Norma on
- 10:34Speaker 1: the air. What what happened? Why? Why do you have
- 10:40Speaker 1: a walker?
- 10:41Speaker 2: My balance is shot?
- 10:44Speaker 1: Okay? Is that it? That's really we're just scratching the
- 10:52Speaker 1: surface here. What happened? There was an accident?
- 10:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and thousand I lived in Northfield Falls trailer park
- 11:03Speaker 2: and I was hit by a car in my dooryard.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Okay, twenty five years ago. What happened on that day?
- 11:14Speaker 2: Rest worker drove in my yard and ran me over?
- 11:19Speaker 2: She was a Vermont State resport worker.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Okay. Was it a situation where I mean, were they intoxicated?
- 11:30Speaker 1: Were they driving too fast?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Nope? She drove in my yard and drove right on
- 11:36Speaker 2: top of my right foot, compacted me between her vehicle
- 11:39Speaker 2: and mine, stayed on top of me.
- 11:45Speaker 1: And what happened after that?
- 11:52Speaker 2: She get out of her vehicle. Her vehicle was still
- 11:55Speaker 2: on top of my foot. I mean, get out of
- 11:58Speaker 2: her cancer. Are you okay? I said, well, I probably
- 12:01Speaker 2: would be being not knowing because I was. I don't
- 12:08Speaker 2: know what to think of it. She got out of
- 12:10Speaker 2: her car and said, are you okay? I said, I
- 12:13Speaker 2: probably would be. To get off my foot.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:18Speaker 2: My husband came home about three o'clock. Happened around three o'clock,
- 12:25Speaker 2: and he had to put me in the back of
- 12:31Speaker 2: my Ego station wagon and took off my shoe and
- 12:35Speaker 2: my foot went okay, And I ended up driving like
- 12:40Speaker 2: that and walking like that for over four months.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Did you call did someone come and help.
- 12:49Speaker 2: You to the I called the ambulance.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Okay, what about your your neighbors? Did they come running
- 12:56Speaker 1: to help you?
- 12:57Speaker 2: No? I had all kinds of people in my driveway
- 13:00Speaker 2: and they were all for her.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Was she insured at all? Okay?
- 13:08Speaker 2: She had her two little kids with her. Okay, traumatized
- 13:13Speaker 2: my kids. My oldest one, Ashley, got in the backseat
- 13:16Speaker 2: of her van, calmed her two kids down.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Ambulance comes. What do they do the animalance?
- 13:28Speaker 2: I called the ambulance and they came, and they had
- 13:30Speaker 2: to wrap up my right leg and put me into
- 13:33Speaker 2: the ambulance.
- 13:34Speaker 1: All right, did you mean to the hospital? Do you
- 13:36Speaker 1: have surgery?
- 13:38Speaker 2: Nope?
- 13:39Speaker 1: Okay, even though your your foot was was pretty smashed up.
- 13:49Speaker 1: No surgery, nope, okay.
- 13:54Speaker 2: They didn't find anything wrong with it. They brought me
- 13:57Speaker 2: to the hospital and didn't find anything wrong with that.
- 13:59Speaker 2: I said, well, I'd just been runn over.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Okay, what about your other your other leg?
- 14:09Speaker 2: No, my other leg was fine. I was compacted up
- 14:12Speaker 2: to my hips, so I had besides them.
- 14:20Speaker 1: So then, so then what happened.
- 14:24Speaker 2: That was it took me to the hospital and sent
- 14:27Speaker 2: me home. And this was in two thousand, Okay, September
- 14:33Speaker 2: twenty seven, did.
- 14:39Speaker 1: You Was there a police report? Was there a law suit?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Did you? Did you get there was no lawsuit? Okay?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Did you get a lawyer?
- 14:50Speaker 2: Yeah? I had a lawyer Okay. It was out a
- 14:53Speaker 2: month payer.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Okay, And how did that? How did that work? But
- 14:59Speaker 1: what what did they do? What did they say?
- 15:03Speaker 2: I went to his office a couple of times, towed
- 15:05Speaker 2: on my foot.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Nay.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Uh. He brought me to a different lawyer down here
- 15:12Speaker 2: and bury up over the movie theater. Yeah, and the
- 15:18Speaker 2: lawyer said I was the biggest friut he ever saw.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Hm. That can't be the end of the story. Okay,
- 15:40Speaker 1: I mean it's that this is seems like they're there
- 15:47Speaker 1: should have been a whole lot more going on here,
- 15:52Speaker 1: a lot more representation.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Nope.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Okay, so you you are, you're walking around as a
- 16:11Speaker 1: injured person that has not been represented. There was there
- 16:20Speaker 1: was no recourse here.
- 16:28Speaker 2: There was no no. They didn't get into up to
- 16:31Speaker 2: me or anything after that. It just ended.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Okay. I'm not sure that, uh that I can really
- 16:44Speaker 1: grasp that. I'm not sure I understand how something like
- 16:50Speaker 1: this could fall through the cracks.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I don't either.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Did you get another lawyer? Did you? Did you get
- 16:59Speaker 1: Did you reach out to any state resources from a
- 17:05Speaker 1: bar association?
- 17:08Speaker 2: I don't know how to go about all that.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Okay, So nineteen ninety five or mid nineties, life was
- 17:25Speaker 1: kind of going well for you. You got married, right, Yeah.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Got married, had two children.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Okay, Then what happened?
- 17:37Speaker 2: Lived in Tunbridge at the time. Oh, I was living
- 17:44Speaker 2: in that Dogwood Glen and friend of ours got us
- 17:48Speaker 2: together and ran off and we got married in ninety five.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I had my children first, Yeah, that were born in
- 17:58Speaker 2: ninety to ninety one.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Things were were going well.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Okay, so you're you're a Northfield girl. This is this
- 18:10Speaker 1: is where you're from. This is where your roots are.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, Wall Street and King Street?
- 18:15Speaker 1: Okay, is that where you were born?
- 18:22Speaker 2: I was born here in Barry.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Okay. How was your childhood? Do you have a mom
- 18:31Speaker 1: and dad?
- 18:32Speaker 2: I grew up with no mother. My mother sohought herself
- 18:35Speaker 2: at thirty one years old. I was only five and
- 18:38Speaker 2: a half months old, so I didn't know her.
- 18:43Speaker 1: What about that?
- 18:45Speaker 2: My dad just died nineteen years ago. I was with him.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Right here in Barry.
- 18:56Speaker 2: No, he died at uh nursing home in Norfield.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Okay, were you close with him.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Yeah, we worked every day. He would come home go
- 19:17Speaker 2: to the legion. When I didn't want to eat at home,
- 19:26Speaker 2: I would go find my dad ask him for some
- 19:29Speaker 2: money to get something to eat because I was laying
- 19:31Speaker 2: basted and forced fred in a corner to eat where
- 19:38Speaker 2: when I lived in Norfield?
- 19:43Speaker 1: Why was that?
- 19:44Speaker 2: Because I'm a slow eater and my uncle wouldn't sit
- 19:48Speaker 2: to a table while I was eating because I would
- 19:50Speaker 2: still be there when he was done.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Okay, So good relationship with your dad? Yeah, he treated
- 20:00Speaker 1: you well.
- 20:02Speaker 2: I hardly ever saw him. Okay, he was a rooking guy.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Okay, do you have any other family or I have a.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Brother that committed suicide because down here in Barry at
- 20:16Speaker 2: the Old Country Cousins, there was five guys that gained
- 20:18Speaker 2: up and meet to live in daylights out of them
- 20:21Speaker 2: paralyzed them, brain damaged, and he ended up in Burlington
- 20:26Speaker 2: Hospital for a month and a half, couldn't beat himself
- 20:30Speaker 2: and walk.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I remember that. I didn't know that was your brother.
- 20:38Speaker 2: At nineteen eighty two February twenty thirty took his life.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Is my brother, Joe?
- 20:48Speaker 1: Any sisters?
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a sister and I have a half sister.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Where do they live? Are they still life?
- 20:55Speaker 2: My sister lives down here in Barry and she has
- 20:58Speaker 2: nothing to do with me.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I don't know where my half sister lives.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:04Speaker 2: And I have an Irish twin in Burlington.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Okay, you ever met the twin?
- 21:15Speaker 2: I have an Irish twin, yeah, okay.
- 21:17Speaker 1: In Irish twin. Okay.
- 21:20Speaker 2: We're eleven and a half months fire.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Okay, So what happened? So? So the marriage was was
- 21:32Speaker 1: going well after you had your your two kids.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and then he ended up cheating on me?
- 21:41Speaker 1: Okay, So what happened?
- 21:44Speaker 2: I got divorced?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Then then you did what?
- 21:51Speaker 2: And then I've been on my own ever since. I
- 21:54Speaker 2: raised one of two girls.
- 21:55Speaker 1: You raised your two girls? Okay? And you did you
- 22:00Speaker 1: get like an apartment or did you buy a home?
- 22:03Speaker 1: What did you? What did you do? After?
- 22:05Speaker 2: I lived in the Falls Trailer Park and uh Rachel
- 22:12Speaker 2: Perkins from Washington County Mental Health down here in Berry
- 22:18Speaker 2: had my youngest one taken away from me and she
- 22:23Speaker 2: lived with d DMS in Northfield up on the bar
- 22:28Speaker 2: fire mode And after a while Ellie wrote the state
- 22:34Speaker 2: letter saying she wanted to come back to her mother.
- 22:38Speaker 2: So they let her and then she went to live
- 22:47Speaker 2: with d after when when she was going to school
- 22:52Speaker 2: in Randolph, special ed in the same class I went to,
- 22:57Speaker 2: only they changed the name. And then we lived in
- 23:04Speaker 2: the Falls trailer Park. She took a knife out of
- 23:06Speaker 2: the drawer because Ashley was playing with a dog and
- 23:10Speaker 2: told her she didn't quit playing with the dog, She's
- 23:13Speaker 2: gonna kill herself. And I had to have the cops
- 23:18Speaker 2: come down. And Ashley was with a guy on the
- 23:22Speaker 2: fire department from Morrisville, and he tried to take the
- 23:28Speaker 2: knife away for dinner. She wouldn't give it to him,
- 23:30Speaker 2: so the cops are called. Cops tried to take the
- 23:33Speaker 2: knife away. We ended up a new police station. Her
- 23:37Speaker 2: father ended up taking her.
- 23:43Speaker 1: What a mess. Yeah, And then so late nineties, you
- 23:51Speaker 1: moved to Northfield Falls and then this horrific crash takes
- 23:57Speaker 1: place in two thousand where you get hit by this car.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Nineteen ninety nine, we moved in Falls trailer Park. Okay,
- 24:06Speaker 2: we moved from Randolph to Hardwick.
- 24:10Speaker 1: All right, So you're you're dealing with injuries after the
- 24:17Speaker 1: two thousand car accident. Fast forward to two thousand and four,
- 24:25Speaker 1: you get cancer.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Okay, I'm a two time cancer survivor.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I think it might be fair to say, Norma that
- 24:38Speaker 1: you are maybe a survivor of just a little bit
- 24:42Speaker 1: more than cancer two times.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah. We had a major head on collision in two
- 24:48Speaker 2: thousand and eight.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I was hit.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I was going up through I was going from Woodbury
- 24:54Speaker 2: into Hardwick and this woman from Hardwick took me out
- 25:01Speaker 2: on my side of the road and they said, if
- 25:04Speaker 2: she had hit me any harder, she would have ejected
- 25:06Speaker 2: my oldest daughter right through the back. One chilled my
- 25:10Speaker 2: brand new man I had.
- 25:14Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm just trying to I'm trying to wrap
- 25:21Speaker 1: my head around.
- 25:22Speaker 2: It's complicated.
- 25:23Speaker 1: A lot of this here which I wasn't here. I am.
- 25:28Speaker 1: You know, I've known you for somewhere between twenty and
- 25:33Speaker 1: thirty years, and some of this I'm hearing for the
- 25:37Speaker 1: first time right now. So what was the cancer in
- 25:42Speaker 1: two thousand and four and I.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Had Bad's cancer?
- 25:46Speaker 1: Okay? How was that dealt with?
- 25:51Speaker 2: Not very good? Wouldn't they send me to Dartmouth? Okay,
- 25:55Speaker 2: I won't go back there.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Did what did they? What did they do?
- 26:01Speaker 2: I found the cancer myself. I went to doctor Mason
- 26:09Speaker 2: that was up here at the hospital. And he did
- 26:12Speaker 2: buiofseas and stuff and told me that I had it,
- 26:17Speaker 2: and then they sent me to Dharmas so they could
- 26:21Speaker 2: treat me for it, and at the end of it
- 26:26Speaker 2: didn't want me to go for any more radiation, so
- 26:30Speaker 2: they sent me to this person that didn't listen to
- 26:36Speaker 2: me about my records because I'm highly allergic to IVP
- 26:41Speaker 2: kidney dye. And I told the person that. She said, well,
- 26:47Speaker 2: we're gonna put a balloon and so you won't have
- 26:51Speaker 2: to go for any more radiation. And I said, you
- 26:54Speaker 2: can't use IVP kidney dye. I'm highly allergic to it.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Well did you become allergic to her? I said eighty
- 27:02Speaker 2: between and it was in the eighties. And she said, well,
- 27:14Speaker 2: I'm going to do it anyways in front of my children.
- 27:20Speaker 2: She could have killed me. And I went home that night.
- 27:24Speaker 2: It was on a Friday night, on a weekend, and
- 27:28Speaker 2: the whole thing popped. It broke, and it wasn't good
- 27:33Speaker 2: because I ended up sick and my husband wouldn't take
- 27:37Speaker 2: me back to Damas and this went on from there.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Did you have a a missect me?
- 27:47Speaker 2: No?
- 27:48Speaker 1: Okay, no? Did they did they get a hold of
- 27:53Speaker 1: this though? I mean did they.
- 27:56Speaker 2: They don't know what that lady did to me?
- 27:58Speaker 1: Okay, Wow.
- 28:03Speaker 2: And then twenty three I had it again on the
- 28:10Speaker 2: other side.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Twenty What do you mean twenty three?
- 28:15Speaker 3: Twenty twenty three just a couple of years ago, Okay, And.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Now I'm on a pill for five years to keep
- 28:28Speaker 2: it from coming back.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Two thousand and nine, you got some back problems. Yeah,
- 28:44Speaker 1: what happened?
- 28:46Speaker 2: I ended up going to Dartmouth for a major back surgery.
- 28:51Speaker 1: What was that?
- 28:53Speaker 2: They didn't even want to do it. The doctor didn't
- 28:58Speaker 2: even want to do it, but he did.
- 29:02Speaker 1: What did he do?
- 29:05Speaker 2: It was my vertebrates and stuff in my back.
- 29:11Speaker 1: My disc Okay, did you have like a fusion?
- 29:18Speaker 2: I have particles in my back okay, screws and robs.
- 29:25Speaker 2: And then twenty seventeen I had another back surgery, major
- 29:30Speaker 2: back surgery. I died in it. Then they brought me back.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Then your heart gives out.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I went into APEB In twenty nineteen. My elbow surgery. Okay,
- 29:52Speaker 2: I had to have both elbows operated on because I
- 29:55Speaker 2: had neurocipe.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Didn't you have a heart attack in like two ten? Yeah?
- 30:03Speaker 2: I had a heart attack in twenty ten. Ended up
- 30:06Speaker 2: in the hospital a couple of days. Then when the
- 30:10Speaker 2: nurse went to take the IV out, she forgot about
- 30:12Speaker 2: it and my hand ended up bleeding all over the place.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I said, well, you better fix this. This isn't right.
- 30:26Speaker 2: And they knew something. They knew that something was wrong
- 30:30Speaker 2: with my heart. They didn't tell me it was. I
- 30:40Speaker 2: don't know what year was. I've had all kinds of
- 30:42Speaker 2: stuff going on. And my doctor was supposed to get
- 30:54Speaker 2: me into a hard doctor after I had my elbow
- 30:57Speaker 2: surgery and he didn't because he was tending to it.
- 31:04Speaker 2: And then Christmas Christmas Eve this past year, I ended
- 31:09Speaker 2: up passing out at church and come to find out
- 31:13Speaker 2: it was because of my heart. So it brought me
- 31:19Speaker 2: to the hospital. And that's what I just said, Well,
- 31:24Speaker 2: she's had this problem before. I've never passed out in
- 31:30Speaker 2: church before. I've had trouble pain. Well it was in church,
- 31:35Speaker 2: but this time I actually passed out and I didn't
- 31:41Speaker 2: know it was because of my heart.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Speaking of church, and I can't help but notice the
- 31:48Speaker 1: cross on your hat.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I'd love to go to church. I've been going to
- 31:56Speaker 2: church since I was eight nine years old. I would
- 31:59Speaker 2: go across town and get my best friend, and she'd
- 32:02Speaker 2: go to church with me in Northfield. I've been going
- 32:06Speaker 2: to church a lot. I used to go to the
- 32:11Speaker 2: Little White Church of South Norfield and then they close.
- 32:17Speaker 2: And I used to go to faith community, but I
- 32:22Speaker 2: don't anymore. I go to Enough Ministry. I'm a member
- 32:26Speaker 2: of it. That's where I was baptized.
- 32:30Speaker 1: When were you baptized?
- 32:34Speaker 2: June fifth of this year, it will be three years.
- 32:38Speaker 2: My daughter Ashley and I, Pastor Dan and his wife Kathy,
- 32:42Speaker 2: went to Morrisville, picked up my daughter, brought her up
- 32:45Speaker 2: so she could get baptized with me.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Which daughter is that?
- 32:53Speaker 2: My oldest one?
- 32:54Speaker 4: Your oldest one who lives up in Morrisville. Okay, Yeah,
- 33:01Speaker 4: So I'm gonna just be uh, I'm just gonna be really,
- 33:08Speaker 4: I guess, for lack of a better term, blunt with you.
- 33:15Speaker 1: It seems like folks who have been dealt the cards
- 33:23Speaker 1: that you've been dealt with. You were run over by
- 33:27Speaker 1: a car, You've had cancer twice, back surgery, toys twice,
- 33:37Speaker 1: heart attacks, multiple operations, both of your feet, you have uh,
- 33:49Speaker 1: what what are these braces on your your feet? Called here?
- 33:56Speaker 1: You have special boots, special shoe shoots with boots with
- 34:02Speaker 1: metal braces coming up both sides almost up almost up
- 34:06Speaker 1: to your knees.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Yeah, they do go up to my knees. I call
- 34:15Speaker 2: them shoes.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And and on the other leg as well.
- 34:26Speaker 2: You can't wear just one, you have to have both
- 34:28Speaker 2: of them.
- 34:30Speaker 1: And this keeps your feet. What is this to How
- 34:35Speaker 1: does this help you?
- 34:36Speaker 2: The shoes are they're orcopedic, they're special shoes. I can't
- 34:45Speaker 2: wear regular shoes anymore.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Okay. And what about the other the other the other?
- 34:56Speaker 2: Okay, dude getting run over and crush.
- 35:05Speaker 1: From from the from getting run over by a car.
- 35:11Speaker 1: And that was twenty five years ago.
- 35:19Speaker 2: It's dumber. Twenty seven will be twenty five years Yeah.
- 35:30Speaker 1: Uh, you know, I'm just just clancing at the comments here. Billy.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Uh just nailed it. Uh, Praise the Lord, Glory to God.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Your testimony is inspiring. How do I say this? It
- 35:57Speaker 1: just seems like people who have, like I was saying,
- 36:00Speaker 1: have been dealt cards like you have either travel on
- 36:13Speaker 1: onward in life very much. And I know I might
- 36:20Speaker 1: be kind of generalizing here, but I think most of
- 36:25Speaker 1: my listeners might get the gist of what I'm saying.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Would would go on in life either very much? A
- 36:35Speaker 1: believing in God and having faith in God or not
- 36:44Speaker 1: you do?
- 36:46Speaker 2: I have five grandkids to live for.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Wow, and they love you.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Hm, I don't get to see them?
- 37:04Speaker 1: Okay, how why do Why do you not get to
- 37:07Speaker 1: see them? What's the deal with that?
- 37:09Speaker 2: But took them away, took my first daughter's four kids away,
- 37:17Speaker 2: and then they turned around and took my second daughter's
- 37:20Speaker 2: child away.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Mm hmm. You still find faith?
- 37:39Speaker 2: I believe in God. Highley.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Where are you on the the hope scale? Because a
- 37:53Speaker 1: lot of us just gonna be straight with you here,
- 38:00Speaker 1: a lot of us who don't have health issues, We
- 38:06Speaker 1: don't have whatever it may be, financial problems. We haven't
- 38:13Speaker 1: been dealt some pretty hard knocks, lack hope.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Sometimes I don't have any hope. Sometimes I just want
- 38:25Speaker 2: to give up. I don't know how to go on.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Sometimes for the most part, though, do you feel on
- 38:53Speaker 1: any given day that you begin with hope? Yeah?
- 39:00Speaker 2: Sometimes I have a lot of hope. Sometimes I just.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Don't want to go What are you hoping for just
- 39:12Speaker 1: to survive another day? Or are you hoping to be
- 39:16Speaker 1: to have a better relationship with your daughters or your
- 39:20Speaker 1: grand or to see your grandkids? What is the hope.
- 39:23Speaker 1: What's the root of it for you?
- 39:26Speaker 2: I hope to be able to see my granddaughters, my
- 39:29Speaker 2: grandsons graduate from high school there.
- 39:33Speaker 1: It is how close are we to that, you know?
- 39:41Speaker 2: I have a fifteen year old, my oldest granddaughter, which
- 39:45Speaker 2: is blind and deaf, so right now she's being homeschooled,
- 39:53Speaker 2: but she wants to go back to school to have
- 39:56Speaker 2: the ability to talk to people. And sure, so she's
- 40:05Speaker 2: going to go back to school. I have a fourteen
- 40:10Speaker 2: year old that's in high school. Socialization is what it is.
- 40:16Speaker 2: My oldest one wants to go back for socialization and
- 40:20Speaker 2: she knows that Hazing Union doesn't have the special heed
- 40:25Speaker 2: that they should have to be able to help. My
- 40:28Speaker 2: two granddaughters that are blind and deaf. We have the
- 40:36Speaker 2: chromosoone seventeen deletion syndrome and that causes a lot of
- 40:42Speaker 2: our disabilities and it has caused them to be blind
- 40:49Speaker 2: and deaf. My oldest one which is Leilah, and then
- 40:54Speaker 2: my youngest one is Melyssa. Melissa's thirteen, and they all
- 41:04Speaker 2: go to well Byla and Ulyssa don't go to school
- 41:07Speaker 2: because they're homeschooled because they're both blind and death. But yeah,
- 41:14Speaker 2: because of the chromosome.
- 41:18Speaker 1: I have seen you norma over at the soup kitchen
- 41:25Speaker 1: down to the basement at Enough Ministries. You're there two
- 41:33Speaker 1: days a week, three days a week, three days a week.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Upstairs is the sanctuary where you attend church. Right, you're
- 41:47Speaker 1: there four days a week. Pastor Josh, pastor Dan.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Patty, pastor Chuck Chuck, which you were starting another church.
- 42:07Speaker 1: These people have really become your family. They love you,
- 42:20Speaker 1: They take you in no matter what the hell's going on.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Are you receiving other are you What kind of services
- 42:34Speaker 1: are you getting? Are you over at Capstone? You have
- 42:37Speaker 1: an apartment here in Barry? Do you live alone? Okay?
- 42:43Speaker 1: Are you receiving any other services? What kind of help
- 42:46Speaker 1: are you getting? You got public transportation? But what else?
- 42:55Speaker 2: I get? Medicaid, medicare the advantage in turns? Okay, I
- 43:13Speaker 2: get food stamps?
- 43:15Speaker 1: Anything else?
- 43:18Speaker 2: Nope?
- 43:27Speaker 1: Have you ever thought about panhandling? Have you ever thought
- 43:35Speaker 1: about just being out on the street with a cup
- 43:43Speaker 1: to collect change? Do you ask for money? Why?
- 43:51Speaker 2: Because that's not the way I was brought up, not
- 43:57Speaker 2: the way I was raised. I was told, if you
- 44:01Speaker 2: don't have it, you don't get it. You don't have
- 44:05Speaker 2: the money, you don't buy it.
- 44:12Speaker 1: I know that this can be a slippery slope, but
- 44:16Speaker 1: I'll just and I'll say this again. I have a
- 44:21Speaker 1: pretty good feeling that the majority of my listeners understand
- 44:29Speaker 1: my gist. And I don't always have a great way
- 44:35Speaker 1: with words. I know what it is that I'm thinking.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I'm trying to verbalize it here. But there are folks
- 44:45Speaker 1: in very, very very different situations and scenarios than you
- 44:55Speaker 1: that are panhandling that ask for my and maybe some
- 45:03Speaker 1: of that is justified, and maybe it's not. I you know,
- 45:14Speaker 1: and it doesn't matter if it's Berry, Montpeli or Burlington.
- 45:22Speaker 1: It just makes me. It just makes me think, It
- 45:26Speaker 1: makes it makes me think. This kind of subject matter
- 45:32Speaker 1: can rent space in my head. When I see someone
- 45:37Speaker 1: who doesn't have and there's been a few that I've
- 45:43Speaker 1: known personally that don't have anywhere near the story that
- 45:48Speaker 1: you have had, but they're asking and receiving a lot
- 45:59Speaker 1: of financial help. When I meet someone like you who
- 46:12Speaker 1: has really been dealt some some bad cards and you
- 46:26Speaker 1: are still maintaining self sufficiency, self reliance, that's remarkable to me.
- 46:51Speaker 1: You are, You're a very resilient woman.
- 47:01Speaker 2: You're very tough, been to Helen, still going through it,
- 47:07Speaker 2: but you got to live it.
- 47:13Speaker 1: You don't have to live it though you don't have to,
- 47:19Speaker 1: but you are. That says an awful lot about a
- 47:28Speaker 1: lot more than just your character. There's something that's primal
- 47:35Speaker 1: within you that makes you want to keep fighting and
- 47:39Speaker 1: keep pushing on.
- 47:44Speaker 2: I have to keep going. I have a daughter that's
- 47:46Speaker 2: going to be going to college. Got accepted to college.
- 47:52Speaker 1: When is that happening?
- 47:55Speaker 2: The guy that screwed her up on it is going
- 47:58Speaker 2: to work with her and hopefully she will be able
- 48:02Speaker 2: to get in before September. She's got a lot of grants.
- 48:13Speaker 1: God bless her.
- 48:15Speaker 2: She just turned thirty five and she wants to be
- 48:19Speaker 2: in LNA.
- 48:21Speaker 1: Just got a comment here, Wow, I thought my trials
- 48:24Speaker 1: and tribulations were hard in my life. Makes me see
- 48:28Speaker 1: my life hasn't been as hard as I thought. You
- 48:31Speaker 1: are a strong woman. Your testimony and your strength, faith, courage,
- 48:36Speaker 1: and knowing Jesus is walking with you. You have a
- 48:38Speaker 1: divine purpose trust in Him. And I cannot speak more
- 48:42Speaker 1: highly of enough ministries. I recently started going after twenty
- 48:46Speaker 1: five plus years, and I feel accepted in a very
- 48:50Speaker 1: warm family feeling. I invite anyone who wants to experience
- 48:55Speaker 1: peace and Jesus is your savior. I am so proud
- 49:04Speaker 1: to call Enough Ministries a sponsor presenting sponsor of this podcast,
- 49:14Speaker 1: and listen. I am well aware that there are mornings
- 49:20Speaker 1: and topics of discussion and banter and whatnot on these
- 49:25Speaker 1: microphones that maybe make Pastor Josh and Pastor Chuck and
- 49:34Speaker 1: Pastor Dan kind of scratched their heads. But no matter
- 49:42Speaker 1: what comes out of my mouth or what comes out
- 49:45Speaker 1: of the mouth of my guests, those guys and pat
- 49:54Speaker 1: are my friends, and I love and support them very much,
- 50:01Speaker 1: even though we get pretty wild here on times on
- 50:07Speaker 1: the on the air and get very inappropriate. But this
- 50:15Speaker 1: is this is what aired out is. I mean, honestly,
- 50:19Speaker 1: you any given day you tune in, you don't know
- 50:23Speaker 1: what you're gonna get. You don't know what you're gonna hear.
- 50:26Speaker 1: We're all over the road. We have conversations like this,
- 50:30Speaker 1: and on Thursday when g comes in here, we're gonna
- 50:35Speaker 1: throw some gas on the fire and we're gonna have
- 50:38Speaker 1: plenty of laughs.
- 50:39Speaker 2: We used to be all over the road. When you're
- 50:41Speaker 2: a froggy too, I.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Remember, well, God that was a long time ago, A
- 50:49Speaker 1: long time ago.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Have won coffee cups off your program?
- 50:56Speaker 1: Have you really?
- 50:57Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 51:02Speaker 1: Man, it's.
- 51:06Speaker 2: I have Nashley.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Has you are? You're an inspiration. You still smile, you
- 51:15Speaker 1: still laugh, You joke around with me when I see you,
- 51:23Speaker 1: and I enjoy sitting next to you and sharing a
- 51:27Speaker 1: meal with you every now and then. Over there.
- 51:32Speaker 2: To what church is about, I've been with them for
- 51:38Speaker 2: ten years or more.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Do you think that that's what's partly responsible for what's
- 51:45Speaker 1: keeping you going? Do you pray every night? Come on,
- 51:53Speaker 1: be honest, normal?
- 51:55Speaker 2: No, I am being honest.
- 51:58Speaker 1: No. Yeah.
- 52:00Speaker 2: John three sixteen is my favorite verse, though I've known
- 52:04Speaker 2: not forerever tell me what it is John three sixteen,
- 52:07Speaker 2: for God so loved the world that he gave his
- 52:09Speaker 2: only begotten son to who you ever believe? It's a nijure?
- 52:12Speaker 2: Not parents, But I have ever lapsed to night. I've learned
- 52:18Speaker 2: that when I was little.
- 52:26Speaker 1: My hope is that we can all learn something from
- 52:33Speaker 1: episodes like this on aired out, that we can all
- 52:38Speaker 1: learn something from you, Norma. You never know who you're
- 52:48Speaker 1: looking at. You never know who you're looking at. We
- 52:54Speaker 1: all have a story and for the last hour. We've
- 53:02Speaker 1: just been scratching the surface of yours. There. You've got
- 53:06Speaker 1: some really deep, deep stuff that's going on. Are you
- 53:10Speaker 1: getting any mental health help and in any capacity?
- 53:17Speaker 2: I've been in mental health for a long time. After
- 53:21Speaker 2: my brother she Sees Themselves. My aunt took me over
- 53:25Speaker 2: there in Montpei her and dropped me off.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Okay, are you still getting any kind of any kind of.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Help when I need them? I column okay.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I think when people see you walking the streets, Barry
- 53:52Speaker 1: with this upwalker, this special walker which holds your body
- 53:57Speaker 1: up upright, I think people are going to be reminded
- 54:06Speaker 1: of this episode this morning and who Norma is. There's
- 54:15Speaker 1: a lot to your story. Man. It's like we could
- 54:21Speaker 1: peel it back all day, but you still are, You're
- 54:29Speaker 1: still going, and it's remarkable to me. Frankly, this one
- 54:38Speaker 1: will resonate with me for quite a while, at the
- 54:42Speaker 1: very least the rest of the day, if not the
- 54:45Speaker 1: rest of this week. And I hope it does the
- 54:48Speaker 1: same for others, to be reminded of what it means
- 54:54Speaker 1: to be resilient, what it means to have hope.
- 55:06Speaker 2: I also have four vertebrae and dicks sticking out of
- 55:09Speaker 2: the back of my neck from the two thousand and
- 55:11Speaker 2: eight had on collision. Wow, I had a broken practiced
- 55:18Speaker 2: bone in my knee that I still have. And there
- 55:21Speaker 2: was a doctor down to Morrisville and he told what
- 55:25Speaker 2: it's a pedict that if she got me out of
- 55:27Speaker 2: the hospital in two days, he's buyer or soda. He
- 55:29Speaker 2: got fired because I called the main person and talked
- 55:37Speaker 2: to them, told him what he said.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Will you come in here again sometime and maybe give
- 55:47Speaker 1: us an update on how you're doing.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I don't have to go back to the hard doctor
- 55:53Speaker 2: for six months, so okay, so.
- 55:56Speaker 1: This summer you and I, yeah, you'll get back in here.
- 56:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 56:03Speaker 1: You're so self dependent independent, You're that's.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Why I don't stand out on a street with a
- 56:12Speaker 2: cup or anything, because I do it myself. I do
- 56:15Speaker 2: it myself or I don't do it.
- 56:18Speaker 1: I'll tell everyone this morning. I wasn't gonna say this,
- 56:20Speaker 1: but I'll say it now. I offered to give you
- 56:24Speaker 1: to pick you up and give you a ride in
- 56:25Speaker 1: here this morning. And your comment to me was, what
- 56:29Speaker 1: the hell do I need to ride for? I'm gonna walk.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I said that, Yes you did, Yes you did. You said,
- 56:37Speaker 1: I'll ride or I'll walk and you did.
- 56:41Speaker 2: I walk all the time.
- 56:42Speaker 1: I know you did.
- 56:43Speaker 2: I'm a constant walker. Yeah, I'm not gonna get anywhere
- 56:48Speaker 2: if I don't.
- 56:50Speaker 1: Wow, and you're gonna walk home now?
- 56:56Speaker 2: Yep, jeez, walk all over everywhere.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Thank you for coming in here, Nourah, welcome. Thank you
- 57:10Speaker 1: for being part of our community, for sharing your story,
- 57:16Speaker 1: for being a great part of the church. Stories, yes, stories,
- 57:23Speaker 1: Thank you. Love, You're welcome.
