- 0:00Speaker 1: That certainly is worthy of being on an SEC defense.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Everybody in the country wanted LaDamian Guyton, right? They have
- 0:12Speaker 1: some of these guys. A.J. Holmes Jr., the way that
- 0:15Speaker 1: he's playing so far this year, I don't think there's
- 0:17Speaker 1: anybody that wouldn't take his eight quarterback pressures and two sacks, right?
- 0:22Speaker 1: They've got some of these guys, but they don't have
- 0:27Speaker 1: them across the board at every position. and they don't
- 0:30Speaker 1: have the waves of them that you might see at, uh,
- 0:35Speaker 1: a Miami or, you know, a Georgia or, or even
- 0:39Speaker 1: a Notre Dame. Like that would be the, the distinction
- 0:43Speaker 1: I would make. And I think last year they did
- 0:44Speaker 1: have those waves that like the, the, what they portaled in,
- 0:48Speaker 1: in the spring portal window last year from kind of
- 0:51Speaker 1: all over the country late, uh, they, they had some very,
- 0:54Speaker 1: very impressive guys out there in that front seven, uh,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I'm not seeing like the same level of play from
- 1:03Speaker 1: the linebackers yet. The secondary last year, I never really
- 1:07Speaker 1: knew how good it was because the front seven was
- 1:10Speaker 1: so good enough that like the teams just didn't have
- 1:13Speaker 1: time to throw and let things develop downfield. But, uh,
- 1:16Speaker 1: so far, you know, I mean, we're, I'm very curious
- 1:20Speaker 1: about their safeties. They've not been good. Morgan in particular is,
- 1:25Speaker 1: is kind of struggled a little bit. Um, And Curry, honestly. Like,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I think teams have picked on them a little bit.
- 1:32Speaker 1: John Curry, Peyton Morgan, their two safeties. And Oregon State
- 1:35Speaker 1: was able to do a lot in the passing game
- 1:38Speaker 1: kind of around those guys. Or those guys were not
- 1:40Speaker 1: able to shut windows at times on certain balls and cover, too.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And you don't see that on some of those top
- 1:49Speaker 1: defenses we were just talking about, right? Like, normally when
- 1:52Speaker 1: you're talking about some of these other P4 defenses, we
- 1:55Speaker 1: are seeing those windows shut. come down quick and get closed.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And if you're a little late on a throw, it's
- 2:02Speaker 1: getting picked and going the other way. And not sure
- 2:04Speaker 1: I would say that quite yet about this 2026 Texas
- 2:08Speaker 1: tech defense.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Where is there, you know, you mentioned Wegman, you mentioned
- 2:12Speaker 2: this defense being good for, for Texas tech thoughts on
- 2:17Speaker 2: where there might be a, an advantage in this that
- 2:20Speaker 2: can be exploited.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, are you talking about from the.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Just in general, something in this matchup that catches your
- 2:32Speaker 2: eye that one of these teams will exploit and may
- 2:34Speaker 2: lead to what will eventually be a pick here in
- 2:36Speaker 2: a few minutes.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that Houston's offense might be complete enough
- 2:48Speaker 1: to actually stress Texas Tech. It's interesting because these two
- 2:55Speaker 1: teams have had a common opponent. They both played Oregon
- 2:58Speaker 1: State back-to-back weeks, and they kind of played them similarly.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Houston won by 13 points. Texas Tech ended up winning
- 3:09Speaker 1: by 11, I think, 35-24. So there's kind of a
- 3:14Speaker 1: funny situation there. If you just want to go one
- 3:17Speaker 1: for one, Houston gained more yards on offense and gave
- 3:20Speaker 1: up less yards on defense to Oregon State. I think
- 3:23Speaker 1: part of that is a product of Houston– I think
- 3:27Speaker 1: is more complete offensively when you talk about balance between
- 3:31Speaker 1: passing and rushing, right? And I think that that is
- 3:36Speaker 1: going to be a problem for Texas Tech because last
- 3:38Speaker 1: week against Oregon State, they gave up a lot of
- 3:40Speaker 1: yards and kind of got into a sticky situation in
- 3:42Speaker 1: the second half, even though Oregon State could not run
- 3:45Speaker 1: the ball. And I think that's because they have problems
- 3:48Speaker 1: in the back end of their secondary. And when you
- 3:51Speaker 1: spin this forward to a game where, look, I'm not
- 3:54Speaker 1: expecting Houston to to gash Texas Tech for like 250
- 3:58Speaker 1: on the ground or anything. But I do think that
- 4:00Speaker 1: they will run the football well enough to be efficient
- 4:05Speaker 1: and stay ahead of the sticks and keep Texas Tech
- 4:07Speaker 1: honest and keep them from totally being able to just
- 4:11Speaker 1: go super light in the box and letting their linebackers
- 4:14Speaker 1: drop out. And when that happens and you add in
- 4:17Speaker 1: Wegman's legs and you add in situations with those safeties
- 4:23Speaker 1: that I'm not sure totally– on top of it right now,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I think that's a problem for Texas Tech. Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 2: What about the other side of the ball? Do you
- 4:33Speaker 2: think Texas Tech's offense can get up and get going?
- 4:36Speaker 2: And thoughts on Houston's defense, and then we'll pick this thing.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I do think that Texas Tech's offense can get going.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I mean, I think that they can certainly get going
- 4:45Speaker 1: through the air. Like we talked about, I am a
- 4:48Speaker 1: believer in Will Hammond. I've always kind of just thought
- 4:53Speaker 1: he was going to be a kid that, that surprised people.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I don't know if that, that is vibes. He, I know, but, um,
- 5:00Speaker 1: he just kind of had that vibe about him. Um,
- 5:04Speaker 1: but in this game specifically, like they've got to get
- 5:09Speaker 1: their run game going and, you know, I'm not totally
- 5:14Speaker 1: confident that they will truthfully. Um, I'm not saying that,
- 5:18Speaker 1: that it'll be abysmal, but, uh, I, I just think that,
- 5:22Speaker 1: you know, they're going to have to, lean on the
- 5:25Speaker 1: pass game and they're going to have to maybe vary
- 5:29Speaker 1: it up a little bit more. Like last year, they
- 5:32Speaker 1: had such a dominant defense that they could kind of
- 5:35Speaker 1: do whatever they wanted on offense. And I think a
- 5:37Speaker 1: lot of times they sort of played it safe on offense,
- 5:40Speaker 1: especially when Hammond took over for the time that he did.
- 5:44Speaker 1: So this time around, like, I think that they got
- 5:47Speaker 1: to they got to throw on first down more, right?
- 5:49Speaker 1: And they've got to be a little more inventive and
- 5:52Speaker 1: creative at how they stay ahead of the sticks and
- 5:54Speaker 1: not put Will Hammond into third and long like they
- 5:58Speaker 1: have to this point in the season.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Texas Tech, seven and a half point favorite. Game is
- 6:02Speaker 2: Friday night, 8 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. local time there
- 6:05Speaker 2: in Lubbock, Texas. I like Texas Tech to win this game,
- 6:10Speaker 2: but I think it's closer. That hook scares me. Not
- 6:12Speaker 2: that it really, you know, I know the games often
- 6:15Speaker 2: don't finish just by a seven, but I'll take Houston
- 6:18Speaker 2: to cover. I like Texas tech to win this game
- 6:21Speaker 2: by exactly that, by the, by the touchdown, the hook
- 6:23Speaker 2: scares me too much. So I'll roll with Houston to
- 6:26Speaker 2: cover Texas tech to win.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I am going, I'm going, I'm definitely going Houston to
- 6:37Speaker 1: cover the spread, but you know what? I'm gonna call
- 6:39Speaker 1: it upset. One of the first big upsets of, well, not, first,
- 6:44Speaker 1: but I think it would be a pretty monumental big
- 6:48Speaker 1: 12 upset and totally open up the field in that conference.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And I think that Houston's going to get them on,
- 6:54Speaker 1: on Friday night. I just sort of have that feeling.
- 6:58Speaker 2: We have enjoyed doing this so far. Make sure you
