- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Well, this President's Day, I just want to say, the
- 0:09Speaker 2: next time I have Brian Jenkins aka Abe Lincoln on
- 0:16Speaker 2: my pod, I want to ask him about what it
- 0:19Speaker 2: was like running as Abraham Lincoln in Utah. That's right,
- 0:22Speaker 2: the sixteenth president of the United States return was actually
- 0:26Speaker 2: on the ballot in Utah in multiple Senate and congressional races.
- 0:31Speaker 2: How interesting is that? But I bring up Abe Lincoln
- 0:34Speaker 2: because I asked the sixteens president through Brian, Hey, what
- 0:40Speaker 2: would your message be to the presidents that followed you,
- 0:44Speaker 2: including to write up until today with President Donald Trump.
- 0:48Speaker 3: But so so it was unusual my day. I don't
- 0:51Speaker 3: know if anybody else who really looked at this the
- 0:53Speaker 3: way that I did, and I don't. I don't see
- 0:56Speaker 3: too many of the too much of this tact that
- 0:58Speaker 3: I would agree with years. I don't see too much
- 1:00Speaker 3: of it today.
- 1:01Speaker 2: If you were to advise President Trump and even the
- 1:04Speaker 2: presidents before him, because you were sixteen hour to forty seven,
- 1:08Speaker 2: which is you know, forty seven and I know a
- 1:10Speaker 2: couple of them elected twice Trump included, But forty seven
- 1:14Speaker 2: president is an achievement for a country that I still
- 1:16Speaker 2: feel as still young. Two hundred three years old is
- 1:18Speaker 2: still pretty young. So if you were to advise all
- 1:21Speaker 2: these presidents after you, what would your main message have been?
- 1:24Speaker 2: Or is.
- 1:26Speaker 3: There is a powerful argument that a nation cannot be
- 1:33Speaker 3: free without God. Many of the founders believe that. They said,
- 1:38Speaker 3: you know, the Constitution is only made for a moral people,
- 1:42Speaker 3: and the and the founders that I believe it's the
- 1:48Speaker 3: signers all, every single Signer self identified as a Christian.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Now today we say, oh they were das, they weren't believers,
- 1:57Speaker 3: but they self identified as Christian, and so so I
- 2:01Speaker 3: cannot help but think that uh, faith and repentance and humility.
- 2:09Speaker 3: You know, Trump took a graze over his his his
- 2:14Speaker 3: ear and hit his ear, and it was it was
- 2:17Speaker 3: like Heaven was saying, hey, you know, you're you're you're
- 2:21Speaker 3: in at my leave. You may look around and think
- 2:24Speaker 3: that that that that that things are just happening, and
- 2:27Speaker 3: then that you're just you're just lucky. But but that's
- 2:31Speaker 3: not so. It's not so. I'm I'm the one who's
- 2:34Speaker 3: I've created this world. I've created America. Do what what
- 2:39Speaker 3: you run this my way or or or or they'll be.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Held and for me, President Day has a history because
- 2:48Speaker 2: what happened twenty five years ago. This may meaning President
- 2:52Speaker 2: Clinton being in the news with President Clinton and then
- 2:55Speaker 2: of course been around the presidents a little bit very
- 2:59Speaker 2: honored about that. And I have to turn my attention
- 3:04Speaker 2: to what's happening in New York because while everybody's hustling
- 3:08Speaker 2: and bustling and doing their own thing for President's Day
- 3:11Speaker 2: twenty twenty five, I don't know if you heard what
- 3:15Speaker 2: the Governor of New York said last week read Eric
- 3:19Speaker 2: Adams getting a part getting the DOJ to wipe out
- 3:26Speaker 2: basically his crimes under Trump's DOJ talk about presidential influence
- 3:32Speaker 2: here in New York. When asked about her next move
- 3:35Speaker 2: on the Rachel Maddow Show, Governor Hockel responded with this,
- 3:40Speaker 2: take a listen to this exchange.
- 3:42Speaker 1: You are the only person who has the power to
- 3:44Speaker 1: effectively fire Mayor Eric Adams and remove him from this position,
- 3:48Speaker 1: which might conceivably moot this whole fight. How are you
- 3:54Speaker 1: thinking about that now? You could have done it at
- 3:56Speaker 1: any point until now, but now, given this crisis that's
- 3:59Speaker 1: emerging FEDERALA enforcement around this case, are you feeling differently
- 4:02Speaker 1: about that responsibility?
- 4:04Speaker 4: Let me tell you from a couple of angles here.
- 4:06Speaker 4: One is that this is unbelievably unprecedent for the Department
- 4:11Speaker 4: of Justice in Washington to interfere in this way. My
- 4:14Speaker 4: husband was a thirty year old federal product secutor. Barack
- 4:17Speaker 4: Obama made him his United States Attorney. You look at
- 4:20Speaker 4: what happened here. This is not supposed to happen in
- 4:23Speaker 4: our system of justice. The bonding administration in that Department
- 4:27Speaker 4: of Justice is already showing their corrupt Now set that aside.
- 4:31Speaker 4: I did see the letter that was issued by the
- 4:33Speaker 4: Acting United States Attorney the allegation. They're extremely concerning and serious. Yes,
- 4:40Speaker 4: but I cannot, as the governor of this state, have
- 4:43Speaker 4: a knee jerk politically motivated reaction like a lot of
- 4:46Speaker 4: other people are saying right now. I have to do
- 4:48Speaker 4: it smart, what's right. And I'm consulting with other leaders
- 4:51Speaker 4: in Goment government at this time. Got at one same
- 4:54Speaker 4: person in the state who can cut through all the
- 4:57Speaker 4: crap and say what is my responsibility guide me to do.
- 5:00Speaker 4: And just as when the allegations came out last September
- 5:03Speaker 4: and the city was in chaos, I said, I will intercede,
- 5:07Speaker 4: work with the mayor to get rid of a lot
- 5:08Speaker 4: of people who are under indictment. Comment down, bring in
- 5:12Speaker 4: a new police chief commissioner who's doing an outstanding job.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Our subways are safer, people are feeling better around the city,
- 5:19Speaker 4: more people are coming back. I don't want our rebirth
- 5:23Speaker 4: to be stopped by this. I have to maintain stability
- 5:26Speaker 4: and the chaos and do it. It's right for the
- 5:28Speaker 4: City of New York because as governor, I also represent
- 5:31Speaker 4: the city. These are my constituents as well. I'm going
- 5:34Speaker 4: to make sure they're protected here. So this just happened.
- 5:36Speaker 4: I need some time to process this and figure out
- 5:39Speaker 4: the right approach.
- 5:40Speaker 1: You are consulting with other leaders, consulting with your advisors,
- 5:43Speaker 1: and looking anew at this matter. Of course, I am
- 5:45Speaker 1: given the reason.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Of course, am job well done by Rachel Maddow on
- 5:49Speaker 2: that question and answer. She did have several points to
- 5:52Speaker 2: remove Adams. But why now? But I want to first
- 5:55Speaker 2: turn my questions to Mayor Adams on this matter. Why
- 6:00Speaker 2: did you wait until President Trump came to you with
- 6:07Speaker 2: this deal, which looks like it's a deal. We'll set
- 6:10Speaker 2: you free if you rid this city of immigrants of
- 6:15Speaker 2: illegal immigrants through Ice, But why didn't he do anything
- 6:19Speaker 2: about the immigration problem before this deal was made? That's
- 6:23Speaker 2: what I want to know. Mayor Adams, why didn't you
- 6:26Speaker 2: do anything about this before even trumpend got office, when
- 6:31Speaker 2: you knew it was bad? How come you decide to
- 6:34Speaker 2: ship them off to different boroughs instead of out of
- 6:38Speaker 2: the city entirely. And I did say that if you
- 6:45Speaker 2: were an indicted mayor, it would not be right to
- 6:50Speaker 2: run the city or even run for reelection. And yes,
- 6:55Speaker 2: the options are so bad. But if Governor Hokeel removed
- 7:01Speaker 2: Mayor Adams, who now has two deputy mayors or more
- 7:07Speaker 2: threatening to resign over all of this. First there was
- 7:11Speaker 2: the prosecution in USDNY resigning, Now it's this happening with
- 7:24Speaker 2: the deputy mayors. If she removes him now, with all
- 7:30Speaker 2: this going on, I think that puts the city in
- 7:33Speaker 2: more chaos. And I think it would be too political
- 7:38Speaker 2: a move for her to remove Adams from office right now.
- 7:47Speaker 2: But we are currently seeing a lot of voices from
- 7:50Speaker 2: both sides saying he needs to go. And my question
- 7:56Speaker 2: to you, ALEXANWSC dot com is should he go? Should
- 8:01Speaker 2: he really go? Should he be removed? Alex at Alex
- 8:07Speaker 2: GNYC dot com. That's Alex at ALEXGANYC dot com. I
- 8:12Speaker 2: wanted to get ahead of this in case there's resignation news.
- 8:15Speaker 2: I didn't want you to feel like you were in
- 8:16Speaker 2: the lurch if you didn't know what was going on
- 8:18Speaker 2: so far, if you hadn't heard the latest surrounding Mayor
- 8:24Speaker 2: Adams's troubles. And now there's a heliport operator that says
- 8:35Speaker 2: she wants a criminal probe filed based on a foreign
- 8:39Speaker 2: contract for that, you know, I guess the helicopters story
- 8:46Speaker 2: rights in the New York Posts today adams administration awards
- 8:51Speaker 2: contract to firm with foreign ties, as a longtime operator
- 8:56Speaker 2: of the Downtown Heliport is pushing for a formal investigation
- 9:02Speaker 2: because Downtown Heliport has been replaced by a foreign contract.
- 9:20Speaker 2: This facility, by the way, is used by President Trump's
- 9:23Speaker 2: Marine one, US military and federal law enforcement officials. This
- 9:27Speaker 2: Mayor's habits never die. And I would say this deal
- 9:32Speaker 2: with the DOJ and Tom Holman coming in and talking
- 9:35Speaker 2: about rinding ICE, ridding immigrants, illegal immigrants from Rikers through Ice,
- 9:43Speaker 2: that's a deal. That's an exchange. So Mayor Adam has
- 9:50Speaker 2: gone from Turkey to literally the President of the United
- 9:52Speaker 2: States the White House to make deals. No one sees
- 9:58Speaker 2: that as problematic in the long run. Here, well, Alex,
- 10:05Speaker 2: he's getting rid of illegal immigrants, he's limiting the migrant crisis.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But he made a deal to do so. We need
- 10:14Speaker 2: a mayor who is gonna have a backbone to begin
- 10:16Speaker 2: with and say we will not accept these illegals, especially
- 10:19Speaker 2: the violent illegals in our city. Not just put them
- 10:26Speaker 2: in the shelters, put them in rikers, and put them
- 10:28Speaker 2: wherever they feel like it until the true administration had
- 10:31Speaker 2: a step in. That's not good clean politics. And Adams
- 10:44Speaker 2: is always friendly when I see him and all that,
- 10:47Speaker 2: but I just he's gone for making deals with Turkey,
- 10:52Speaker 2: a foreign entity. To now the new administration. If the
- 11:01Speaker 2: guy spend time running the country of running the city
- 11:04Speaker 2: rather and not making deals left and right foreign and
- 11:14Speaker 2: here in America, our city would be better off. But
- 11:22Speaker 2: he's continuing to make deals. And now he's got influenced
- 11:26Speaker 2: in the White House. And did Adams say no, I'm
- 11:33Speaker 2: not going to accept that I will go through with this.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Of course he didn't. Of course he didn't. But but
- 11:47Speaker 2: from where I sit right now, here on one leg up.
- 11:52Speaker 2: All this is saying removing Adams is not the answer,
- 11:59Speaker 2: and what is You Just let this go through the
- 12:03Speaker 2: primary and see how the chips fall, and we'll see
- 12:08Speaker 2: if New York truly feels like Mayor Adams can give
- 12:11Speaker 2: the city one leg up and a second term, or
- 12:16Speaker 2: if he's a one term and done Mayor. I'd rather
- 12:24Speaker 2: have someone who has a backbone than wants to make
- 12:26Speaker 2: deals to get things done. I think on the national perspective,
- 12:37Speaker 2: Trump making deals to get things one like getting the
- 12:40Speaker 2: hostage home is right. That is where he has a backbone,
- 12:47Speaker 2: because Biden administration didn't have that backbone to make these
- 12:51Speaker 2: deals to make these releases happen. But Adams has had
- 12:57Speaker 2: three years to deal with this, and instead of just
- 13:03Speaker 2: not accepting them here in New York, he complained rightfully
- 13:09Speaker 2: so that the Buidensis was nowhere near that Mayor Adams's requests,
- 13:17Speaker 2: you know, politics wise or stance wise, I guess I
- 13:24Speaker 2: want to say a few point wise. So then you
- 13:31Speaker 2: do it yourself, You take care of it yourself. You
- 13:33Speaker 2: don't let them come into the city at the rate
- 13:36Speaker 2: that they did. And that's where I think his problem is. Yeah,
- 13:42Speaker 2: he's going to clean up the city now after a
- 13:44Speaker 2: deal was made, But he should have. He should have
- 13:49Speaker 2: been doing this cleanup work long before hedging on whether
- 13:56Speaker 2: or not Trump was going to get elected, to clear
- 13:58Speaker 2: his crimes. Long before that, we had started the show
- 14:10Speaker 2: with honest abe. Now I'm looking for a backbone mayor
- 14:17Speaker 2: to run the City of New York all the way through,
- 14:23Speaker 2: whether there is a deal or no deal.
