- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, welcome back to Bible Track Deco's.
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike and McCurray, you're host.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so very much for joining me once again today.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to ask you to grab your Bibles.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: Turn to the Book of First Samuel chapter 17.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to return to the scene of an incredible battle.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: Not a battle between massive armies, but a battle between
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: two folks, two men, one massive amount of a man.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: The other, not so large, a youth, but a youth, the Bible tells us.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: First Samuel chapter 17, while you turned there, let me encourage you, if you're curious about the foundational ministry of Bible track echoes, I have the privilege of
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, being the radio host of this program Bible tracked echoes, but in addition to what I do with you on a radio here, I also have the honor of directing an 80-something-year-old ministry called Bible Tracks Incorporated Founded by Dr. Paul Levine in 1938.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we'll be talking about something that happened in 1941 in just a few moments, but back in 1938, God used a young man named Paul Levine to found the ministry that I now get to direct.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: I stand on the shoulders of giants.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: I stand in big shoes.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: I have big shoes to fill.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited though to tell you that you can go to our website bibletracksink.org.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: Again, that's bibletracksink.org and you can order free gospel tracks for you to use.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: We'd encourage you to use them all day every day.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: Whenever you leave the house even from inside your house, when the mailman comes, drop off your mail, give them a gospel track.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: When you open up your mail and there's one of those postage paid envelopes,
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: and mail it out.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: If you're looking for more ideas from inside your home or outside your home, ways to use gospel tracks, let me encourage you to place an order.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe get a sample booklet from us.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Bibletracksink.org will send you one.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: for free.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Inside that sample booklet will be a little pamphlet.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: It looks like a gospel track, but it's not quite.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's called what is a tract.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: What is a tract?
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: And with just about every order that we ship out, we send out some of these little pamphlets.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: What is a tract?
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: There's many people at order from us and they're not quite sure.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: They're lacking maybe just a little bit of confidence.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: And to help them out, we include this gospel tract with just about every order and especially with
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Bibletracksink.org today.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Now, we're in First Samuel chapter 17.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about the Philistines gathered with their armies and a massive man named Galaya who said, choose you out of man and come and fight with me if you want.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: What do you say?
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: If you guys win, if your champion wins, then we will be your servants.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: But if I win, imagine that.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: This guy's massive, like nine feet tall.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_01]: He says, if we, if I win, then you is your life.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: You'll be our servants.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of all of us fighting and if thousands upon thousands dying today, let's just make it mono-emono.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just do one-on-one combat.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Easy for Goliath to say, because he was massive, right?
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about that concept
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: I told you near the end of yesterday's broadcast, that the topic, the theme, the thought for this week is this declare war, declare war.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Now, how does that figure in?
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: I have an illustration, a historical illustration, it might be helped to you.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: Back on December 7, 1941, the historical folks among us that enjoy a little bit of history may recall that date, may give you a moment to figure out what happened.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: December 7, 1941, well,
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: Pearl Harbor happened.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: Pearl Harbor.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now, what was Pearl Harbor?
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's a naval base in Hawaii.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_01]: A little before 8 a.m. Pacific time, on December 7th.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: The Japanese came and attacked Pearl Harbor.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: Now, let me pause for just a moment and say this, I have Asian ancestry and all those types of things.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: For those of you that are looking for a problem,
- 4:22[SPEAKER_01]: Please, I'm giving you a little history lesson here, okay?
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, no issues currently with the Japanese.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, I'm just telling you what happened back in 1941, but 1941.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Japanese unprovoked attacked Pearl Harbor.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: Almost 2,500, about 2,400 US sailors and people died that day.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: Fast for an hour and 15 minutes, they bombed and destroyed about 19 naval vessels.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: One of which was the USS West Virginia, that vessel went down in, I say, only about 40 feet of water.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: With everything that was going on, those sailors that were trapped below decks, many of them died.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: But there were three that because of the air that was below decks there, they were trapped.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: Because water transmit sound very well, there was a tapping that could be heard.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: They probably had something metallic of some kind, to tap against a bolt head, and it was ringing out through the water.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: They tapped, and they tapped.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: We have no idea how long batteries and flashlights and things may have lasted.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: We do know that because of a calendar on the wall, when those three men were finally recovered,
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: that those men lasted for approximately 15 or 16 days before they succumbed to a lack of food, a lack of air, they died, just three of 2400, because a nation had attacked another nation.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's easy to see pictures and depictions of war come to us through your favorite news channel and they seem so far away.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: War almost seems romantic, doesn't it?
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: It has a little bit of enchantment to it to think about giving one's life for one's nation and all those things.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: War is a grizzly business.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: My father served two tours in Iraq in the aftermath of September 11th.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: One was a 12th month deployment.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: One was a 15 month deployment.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: If I recall correctly, each of them were only broken up by one two week call it vacation.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: Returned a normal sea, a redeployment back to the Germany where we were at the time.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: He came back and it was with us for I think it was two weeks and went back for another six months or even longer.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was without a father for effectively two years of some of my formative years of my life.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't say this at a bitterness, I don't say this at a problem.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: What I'm telling you though is that the wars of today has crude and as rude and as violent as they may be, even maybe more so than the past, though I would have to guess probably not.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: There were days of the past, World War II, World War I, where our boys, if you will,
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: They went over and they didn't come home to the war was done.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: There was no deployment.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: There was no 12-month or 6-month or 15-month-a-limiter.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: They went until war was done.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Think of those boys.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: So many years ago, in the early 19 teens, sitting in a trench, waiting for the whistle to go over the top, into machine gunfire.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: What am I talking about?
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm certainly not inciting insurrection or anything of that nature.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm asking you to do today's this spiritually speaking, I'd like you to declare war.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: I told you yesterday that at some points this week, I may at times get just a touch blunt, because in this matter of spiritual warfare, there will be casualties.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so often the casualties come from those that don't even realize that they are at war.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: we return to 1st Samuel 17.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: The Bible tells us in verse number three, the Philistines stood on a mountain on the one side and the Israelites and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side and there was a valley between them.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: But just a verse or two earlier, we find that the Philistines came onto encroached upon Israelite land, land that belonged to the tribe of Judah, and they set up shop brought their armies and basically declared war.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the first thought.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: And we fast-forward one day from December 7th, 1941 to December 8th, 1941.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_01]: The president at the time FDR, he was faced with a decision, you say there was no decision to be made.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_01]: Well, technically there was.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: Because the USA could have just taken the unprovoked attack of Japan on the chin.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: And if you will turn the other cheek and said, we don't want a part of this.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: We're sorry for 2000 sailors dying, but we're just gonna let you guys do whatever you want.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: The land of the rising sun, you just take over the Pacific, do whatever you want.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: You say that sounds ridiculous.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Just as ridiculous for a child of God who looked down the gun barrel of a world that has already declared war upon you and everything you love, everything that a Christian should love,
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: to just take it on the chin and say, I don't want to fight today.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_01]: Now pause for just a moment.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: Let me explain for me personally, okay?
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: I am probably in my life a little bit more grace than truth.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_01]: I am probably a little lousy affair.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm probably the good cop to other people's bad cop most of the time.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not so much a fighter as much as I have a lover, all right?
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: I enjoy just
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: But I tell you, there will come a time and a place in every man, woman, and child's life.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: When a decision has to be made.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: When your Pearl Harbor happens.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: you would be wise to already know what your decision is.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, the world has already declared war on you.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: The question is what are you going to do in return?
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not talking about the people that are walking by you on the, down at the mall.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not talking about the cashier Walmart.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about the world, the flesh, and the devil.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: There is a war going on, but at times we need a call to arms.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: We need a reminder about what it means to be at war.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, my desire today, and this week on a broadcast for just a few days that we have left, is to remind you that, yes, we are at war, but there is still a decision requisite by you.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: Israel without a stalemate.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: Goliath came out and he said his peace and he walked back to camp.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: The next day, Goliath came out, everyone stood on their sides of the valley.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: Goliath came out and said his peace walked back.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody went to bed that night.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_01]: The next day, everybody came out and stood on both sides of the valley.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: Goliath came out and said his peace and walked back friend.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: The world, for probably years in your life.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Past come out, set its peace, and walk back, and you've done nothing about it.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: My encouragement, my desire, my exhortation this week.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: Is it's time to declare war?
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, are we going to look at the story of David and the Bible absolutely?
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: Are we going to learn some lessons from him as he defeats not to let the cat out of the bag, but David defeats Goliath?
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Are we going to learn some lessons from him?
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: My prayer, my hope, my aim, my goal is yes.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, I'd like you to get down deep in your crawl that it's time to declare war.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Let me encourage you today to join us tomorrow.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: On the Bible Track, Echo's Radio Broadcast, thank you so much for tuning in.
