Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hey, it's Alex Garrett. One lug Up Alex and we
- 0:06Speaker 1: are in twenty twenty six, which means one lug up
- 0:09Speaker 1: Alex in twenty twenty six. Tune in. We've just published
- 0:12Speaker 1: over fifteen hundred episodes in twelve years, with more toicum.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Thanks to you out there listening. One lug Up Alex
- 0:19Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six, Luterminello. I don't know if we're
- 0:24Speaker 1: manifesting things here almost every show we do. But about
- 0:29Speaker 1: two hours or three hours after I had said the
- 0:32Speaker 1: Giant should hire Harbaugh Adam Schefter and everybody and their
- 0:36Speaker 1: mother came out of the woodworks and said Johnnan's finalized
- 0:40Speaker 1: the deal. Here we go another thing that I talked about,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and it's happening. And I mean, maybe you was supposed
- 0:45Speaker 1: to happen like that, but maybe that was the extra
- 0:47Speaker 1: push Mara needed. I don't know, Lily, but here we
- 0:50Speaker 1: are at Tamudeau's date.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Alex, good afternoon. It is a big day for the
- 0:57Speaker 2: New York Giants. They got the number one free agent,
- 1:00Speaker 2: not only as far as available coaches go, but even
- 1:05Speaker 2: as for available players. They they nailed it. He got
- 1:11Speaker 2: credit the Giants for handling his coaching situation perfectly. They
- 1:15Speaker 2: aggressively jumped on the opportunity and did not let Harbor
- 1:18Speaker 2: slip away, and they got the deal done before he
- 1:21Speaker 2: had a chance to interview with Tennessee or Atlanta. They
- 1:25Speaker 2: targeted Harbor the best coach available.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Not just them, I mean they recruited. Did you see
- 1:30Speaker 1: they recruited I think it was Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Even Giants coach Brian Dabele recruited Harbor. Did you hear
- 1:39Speaker 1: that Alex Dabell hired his recruited his replacement. I've never
- 1:43Speaker 1: seen that before.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that that is unusual. And of course then they
- 1:49Speaker 2: brought in the closure young Jackson Dart yesterday.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Uh so, I gotta give a shout out because I
- 1:57Speaker 1: reposted them earlier today. New Jersey restaurants taking credit for
- 2:02Speaker 1: hosting the meal that sealed the deal. Did you see
- 2:04Speaker 1: that at all?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Which restaurant?
- 2:06Speaker 1: All right, it's called and I'm gonna get it right
- 2:11Speaker 1: Eli Ilia Mediterranean Restaurant in Hackensack Street, Ruther for New Jersey.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So Ilia Mediterranean taking credit for this deal breaking lunch
- 2:22Speaker 1: and for dinner? How about that?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Okay, I've been to a lot of restaurants around that area.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I have never been to that one, so.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'll give them a shout out on Instagram me and
- 2:32Speaker 1: the Home of the Deal. I guess you would.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Say, yeah, you gotta give a slack.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I'm excited. So I talked about this today. A lot
- 2:40Speaker 1: Dart is sort of in that era where Flako was
- 2:44Speaker 1: when Harbor had him and Jackson Lamar Jackson was, I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 1: young guys that he molded into elite quarterbacks, and here's
- 2:53Speaker 1: another chance for him to mold another quarterback that has
- 2:56Speaker 1: a lot of potential.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, but again, you got to give the organization
- 3:02Speaker 2: thumbs up this time, you really do. I mean they
- 3:06Speaker 2: change their approach from past coaching services searches with first
- 3:11Speaker 2: time head coaches. They were sick and tired of being losers,
- 3:15Speaker 2: of being irrelevant, and this hiring changes everything, at least
- 3:19Speaker 2: perception wise. It energizes the fans, the entire organization, the players.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Now again, Alex, nothing is guaranteed as far as success goes.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I mean, we've seen that, and you can go through
- 3:32Speaker 2: a history of great NFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks who
- 3:36Speaker 2: excuse me, coaches who have won Super Bowls and aren't successful.
- 3:40Speaker 2: The second time around, I don't think that's gonna happen
- 3:43Speaker 2: this time. But the one good thing about this is
- 3:47Speaker 2: even if Harvard snaps his achilles tendon plays into the season,
- 3:52Speaker 2: he could still coach. He's not the quarterback will he
- 3:55Speaker 2: will have great structure on a team. I'll be disciplined.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I think one of the key things, and this is
- 4:03Speaker 2: just me talking, I think you're not gonna see Abdull
- 4:07Speaker 2: Carter going a wall during games anymore. I think that's
- 4:12Speaker 2: very important as far as the Giants. As the Giants go,
- 4:16Speaker 2: obviously they spent a number three pick on him. Last year.
- 4:20Speaker 2: He was absent during games. He couldn't find him. He
- 4:23Speaker 2: got a little bit uh better the last couple of games.
- 4:27Speaker 2: But I think this is gonna help Harbor and Alex.
- 4:30Speaker 2: The other thing that I think he's gonna help. Remember,
- 4:33Speaker 2: Harbor originally was a special teams expert, special teams coach,
- 4:38Speaker 2: and you know all the troubles the Giants have had
- 4:41Speaker 2: with their special teams. I think you're not gonna see
- 4:44Speaker 2: those troubles anymore.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You won't see a miss field goal attempt at you
- 4:49Speaker 1: know a point after that could.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Well you might see miss field goal. Remember if if
- 4:54Speaker 2: if Luke didn't missed that last field goal against Pittsburgh,
- 4:57Speaker 2: Harbor still may be the coach of both more that's true.
- 5:02Speaker 2: But the thing is, you're gonna You're not gonna go
- 5:04Speaker 2: through four kickers in five weeks.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It was so bad.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 5:09Speaker 1: It was a bad stretch. And even you gotta give
- 5:12Speaker 1: credit Harbaugh for ford and navigating that justin Tucker disaster
- 5:15Speaker 1: the way he did. And I guess apparently if Luke
- 5:18Speaker 1: made it, they would have one more week to go
- 5:19Speaker 1: with l Harbor. Look, the the the the chapter was closing,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I mean, he had a rough one and what four
- 5:28Speaker 1: or five start in Baltimore. They took away all the
- 5:31Speaker 1: gaming things from the locker room and it was a
- 5:34Speaker 1: pretty bad and ugly scene in Baltimore. Uh, And I
- 5:37Speaker 1: think the last row was Lamar versus Harbaugh?
- 5:40Speaker 3: Right?
- 5:40Speaker 2: Is that?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Is that what we're saying here?
- 5:42Speaker 2: Apparently? Yeah, I guess it was Lamar Jackson versus Harbor,
- 5:45Speaker 2: and the young quarterback won over the veteran coach. Again,
- 5:50Speaker 2: it's not unprecedented in sports. We've seen it. I mean,
- 5:54Speaker 2: it's obviously it's super prevalent in the NBA, but uh,
- 6:00Speaker 2: step back, I mean, how could you not hire a guy?
- 6:03Speaker 2: And again, like I said, this doesn't guarantee success, but
- 6:06Speaker 2: his resume six AFC North Championships, twelve playoffs for appearances. Yes,
- 6:12Speaker 2: the super Bowl he won was fourteen years ago. Really,
- 6:17Speaker 2: I guess it was a twenty twelve super Bowl. But
- 6:20Speaker 2: this is a big one for the for the for
- 6:22Speaker 2: the n YG, no doubt about it. They are the
- 6:25Speaker 2: New York Giants better today than they wore yesterday. No,
- 6:28Speaker 2: they're not better today than one yesterday. They're much better
- 6:31Speaker 2: today than they wore yesterday. No, it's not even close.
- 6:34Speaker 1: All right, Well, obviously all eyes are going to be
- 6:36Speaker 1: on who he brings in coordinator wise, and we all
- 6:39Speaker 1: want a better defensive coordinator. And I'll tell you one
- 6:41Speaker 1: thing that I've because his brother just fired the OC.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I believe too on on after this Chargers disaster. Did
- 6:50Speaker 1: I never knew that these coaches have that kind of
- 6:53Speaker 1: leverage to hire and fire their coordinator. So it's something
- 6:56Speaker 1: to add on to what I'm keep an eye on
- 6:57Speaker 1: with all these coaches this year too.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Well, probably the offensive corny is gonna be Todd Munkin.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Oh, you know, definitely Todd monkys In in uh both,
- 7:06Speaker 1: But I'm saying you may not. You know, if the
- 7:08Speaker 1: Giants get off to a fi even one blown game
- 7:11Speaker 1: or two blown games, Harbor may lose his patiences, fire
- 7:14Speaker 1: the coordinator. He seems that kind of a fiery guy.
- 7:16Speaker 1: So we'll have to see.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Well again Cortinas wherever. Many times as get fired and
- 7:22Speaker 2: I'm not saying this is a Harboar situation. Cort As
- 7:24Speaker 2: get fired to deflect the real blame from the head coach.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And you know you've seen that throughout the NFL. But uh, yeah,
- 7:33Speaker 2: this is this is a this is a good day
- 7:35Speaker 2: for the for the New York Giants. It's not a
- 7:37Speaker 2: bad day.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I started this show seventeen years ago, this upcoming October
- 7:43Speaker 1: or whatever, and I tell you I feel that hope
- 7:46Speaker 1: like I did when I first started the show. Like
- 7:48Speaker 1: every few years, there's that moment that says, never give
- 7:51Speaker 1: up on New York sports. And this is that moment
- 7:54Speaker 1: right there.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Louis, Well, yeah, no, I would. I would agree with you.
- 7:59Speaker 2: It gives you. Hey, everybody just wants hope. I mean
- 8:03Speaker 2: that's all, you know, we just we just want to hope.
- 8:06Speaker 2: You know, you go you go across the uh the
- 8:12Speaker 2: Hallway in Medlife Stadium, and really, the New York Jets
- 8:17Speaker 2: don't couldn't fire Aaron Glenn and go after a guy
- 8:20Speaker 2: like Harbor or Stefanski or Mike McCarthy. I don't get it.
- 8:26Speaker 2: And to see guys like Mike Tannenbaum, who's part of
- 8:28Speaker 2: that thirty that thirty three team or whatever the hell
- 8:32Speaker 2: it's called, that coaches recruiting team, basically on the last
- 8:37Speaker 2: two weeks, continue to defend Glenn, really defend Glenn and
- 8:44Speaker 2: Jake Astman on his radio show and podcasts. You know
- 8:48Speaker 2: they've really gone at it, and I know they're friends.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And Mike Tannonboum was a very good general manager for
- 8:53Speaker 2: the Jets, But are you kidding me? Uh, basically throwing
- 9:00Speaker 2: uh your total support in front of au, in front
- 9:05Speaker 2: of a guy for a guy who didn't get anything
- 9:07Speaker 2: right this year, and this was a big time coaches
- 9:12Speaker 2: candidate season. You're not gonna have guys like Harbor and
- 9:16Speaker 2: McCarthy and and Stefanski and some of and Arthur Smith's
- 9:22Speaker 2: next year. You're not. And let's let's look at Alex quickly.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Let's look at the team real quick. We haven't even
- 9:28Speaker 2: thought about this teams that might be looking for new
- 9:30Speaker 2: coaches next year at this time. Of course, there'll be
- 9:33Speaker 2: some that week. They'll come out of nowhere. Maybe some
- 9:35Speaker 2: guy will retire, like an Andy Reid, who the hell knows,
- 9:38Speaker 2: but the New York Jets, Washington, that's just off the
- 9:43Speaker 2: top of my head, maybe Philly, you know, that's three
- 9:49Speaker 2: right off the top of our head. So all these
- 9:51Speaker 2: guys Allean.
- 9:54Speaker 1: You know, the EMAI and I don't know McVeigh maybe
- 9:56Speaker 1: or even McDermott up and.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Well, mcvay's not getting Alex. John McVay is not getting fired.
- 10:02Speaker 2: If John McVay leaves, it's gonna be because of he
- 10:05Speaker 2: wants to go into TV, because he's still a young man.
- 10:08Speaker 2: He is not getting fired.
- 10:10Speaker 1: McDermott, though, that's an interesting case.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Well McDermott. McDermott might be the guy who's been there
- 10:14Speaker 2: a long time. He might get pushed out like Harbor,
- 10:18Speaker 2: or he just he might resign like like's amazing.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Well, I was gonna say the parallels between the two,
- 10:27Speaker 1: I mean, they basically came in around the same era
- 10:30Speaker 1: at the same time, and now they're both guns almost
- 10:33Speaker 1: like the Romeo and Julietta football in a sense they're
- 10:36Speaker 1: both out in Baltimore and Pittsburgh. But like, I don't
- 10:40Speaker 1: know the Pittsburgh won, and how many years I say,
- 10:43Speaker 1: Tomlin's time was running out and you're like, no, he's
- 10:46Speaker 1: a good coach. He's at the other but I kind
- 10:48Speaker 1: of knew his time was running out at some point, and.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Well, everybody's time runs out. I mean, but what you
- 10:55Speaker 2: heard from that final meeting. And remember Tomlin wasn't fired,
- 11:01Speaker 2: he resigned. So if anybody, whether it's this year or
- 11:04Speaker 2: next year, once Tomlin as their coach, they have to
- 11:07Speaker 2: give up compensation, unlike the Giants don't have to give
- 11:10Speaker 2: Baltimore or anything because Harball was fired. But in the
- 11:14Speaker 2: when he announced to the team yesterday Monday, when was
- 11:18Speaker 2: it Tuesday morning that he was resigning, the emotion throughout
- 11:24Speaker 2: that Steeler locker room, whether it was Joey Porter Jr.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Whether it was TJ. Watt who was crying severely, Aaron
- 11:34Speaker 2: Rodgers crying, here's a guy who's been in the NFL
- 11:36Speaker 2: twenty one years. He knows that he he's gonna only
- 11:40Speaker 2: play one year. That's how much respect this guy has.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And that's what Harball's gonna bring to the Giants respect.
- 11:48Speaker 2: But I don't know if there's any coach in the
- 11:50Speaker 2: league who has as much respect from his players as
- 11:56Speaker 2: Mike Tomlin. And that's why he had nineteenth street winning
- 12:00Speaker 2: seasons in one of the toughest divisions, year in and
- 12:03Speaker 2: year out in the National Football League. Now, that leads
- 12:07Speaker 2: me to this, the New York Giants automatically have the
- 12:11Speaker 2: best coach in the NFC East. In my opinion, that
- 12:16Speaker 2: gives them. That gives them, as Alex Garrett like to say,
- 12:20Speaker 2: one leg up.
- 12:21Speaker 1: In my opinion, No, this catapults them into the top
- 12:26Speaker 1: of the division in a sense with the way, but
- 12:28Speaker 1: with the makeup. I just look at the makeup. I
- 12:30Speaker 1: look at Harbaugh, Dart, Scatt and Leak. You've got your
- 12:34Speaker 1: core four right there. That's gonna be the team that
- 12:37Speaker 1: pushes you. Many of the defense straightened out, and you're
- 12:41Speaker 1: not blowing five games that should have been in the back,
- 12:46Speaker 1: especially the Denver game. Especially the Denver game. That one
- 12:49Speaker 1: I will not forget. A thirty three point fourth quarter
- 12:53Speaker 1: embarrassing that should never happen again to Big Blue.
- 12:58Speaker 2: No, no, it shouldn't. But again it's funny. Steve Bachatti
- 13:02Speaker 2: yesterday when he was doing the press conference in response
- 13:06Speaker 2: to John Hobbell being fired, he talked about the reasons
- 13:10Speaker 2: why he fired him. One of them was some belonging leads,
- 13:14Speaker 2: someone was underachieving. Again, remember Alex, this guy had Derrick Henry,
- 13:22Speaker 2: I mean, one of the great great great runners of
- 13:24Speaker 2: all time, who doesn't get it, who might be underrated
- 13:27Speaker 2: as a Oh, he.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Was still putting up numbers. In fact, I think he
- 13:31Speaker 1: was beating up his his high school records or something
- 13:34Speaker 1: like that. I was here, like he did a lot
- 13:35Speaker 1: of different He's still got his numbers game going.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So and and he had Lamar Jackson.
- 13:43Speaker 4: You know, we talk about the four great, the four
- 13:45Speaker 4: great super blue chip quarterbacks Stafford, Barrow, Mahomes and Allen,
- 13:51Speaker 4: but Lamar Jackson is the fifth.
- 13:54Speaker 2: He's the one. He just misses that super blue chipper
- 13:58Speaker 2: because he's had he's had playoffs the years. But you
- 14:03Speaker 2: know he's uh, he's you know, he's so again. Nothing's perfect.
- 14:08Speaker 2: But on the Giants better today than they were yesterday
- 14:11Speaker 2: by miles, not by not by a couple of yards
- 14:14Speaker 2: by miles.
- 14:16Speaker 1: How many thanksgivings until I'm at the dinner table with
- 14:19Speaker 1: the Harball family because I connected with them right as
- 14:21Speaker 1: soon as New York give me the harbor across the table.
- 14:25Speaker 1: How fun would that be?
- 14:26Speaker 4: Right?
- 14:26Speaker 2: Well, knowing knowing you, we'll be sooner than later. But yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 2: so uh so now, well now the other coaches will
- 14:38Speaker 2: be uh, they'll start filling in the other the other
- 14:43Speaker 2: coaching openings quick now because Harball was you know, he
- 14:47Speaker 2: was the gem and uh, I have a feelings to
- 14:51Speaker 2: Fancy's going to be next. I would say either Atlanta,
- 14:59Speaker 2: well Atlanta of Baltimore, I would say, so, I think
- 15:03Speaker 2: that's I think he might be the next one to fall.
- 15:08Speaker 2: So we'll see, you know, another big NFL weekend coming up.
- 15:12Speaker 2: You know, the NFL never disappoints when it comes to games.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Could Josh Josh Allen be Superman again this week? I
- 15:22Speaker 2: don't know. I mean a guy you know basically Will's
- 15:25Speaker 2: teams to victory. Uh, he's you know, spectacular. You know,
- 15:30Speaker 2: Denver has a great defense, they have a great coach.
- 15:35Speaker 2: While the PRESSU there's a little pressure on on on
- 15:37Speaker 2: a on a Denver team. So uh then then you
- 15:41Speaker 2: got the uh you know, you got the Niners.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Man, not just pressure, I mean Nicks has to look
- 15:49Speaker 1: like the veteran this week, and I just see Allen's
- 15:53Speaker 1: veteran presidence taking over that game and and take him
- 15:56Speaker 1: to the AFC title game. And by the way, as
- 16:00Speaker 1: I mentioned on my show last night, you have all
- 16:03Speaker 1: the start of the line and it's happened to be
- 16:05Speaker 1: Patriots and and Buffalo. I would love to go to
- 16:08Speaker 1: see that game up in New England. That would be
- 16:10Speaker 1: uh one for the record books.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I think, Alex I can disagree with you. Look at
- 16:18Speaker 2: all the young quarterbacks playing this weekend. You got a
- 16:22Speaker 2: second year quarterback with Denver in bow Knicks. Uh. Yeah, yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 2: You got Houston at New England on Sunday, third year
- 16:32Speaker 2: quarterback Stroud who did not play well on Monday night
- 16:35Speaker 2: except that their defense is by far and away the
- 16:37Speaker 2: best in the NFL against Drake May, a second year quarterback.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And then at night you got the uh you got
- 16:45Speaker 2: the Rams at at the Bears with a second a
- 16:50Speaker 2: second year quarterback. So interesting weekend. You know, we don't
- 16:55Speaker 2: we really don't pick games here. I'm like you, I
- 16:58Speaker 2: kind of would lean towards a Josh Allen superman performance
- 17:02Speaker 2: like he had last week. Can the best coach in
- 17:06Speaker 2: the NFL Kyle Shanahan win at Seattle with all their
- 17:10Speaker 2: incredible amount of injuries. Can he do it again? There's
- 17:14Speaker 2: no way the Eagles should have lost to the Niners
- 17:17Speaker 2: last week, but the Niners out coached them by Miles
- 17:23Speaker 2: Ken Houston put the pressure on the New England offense,
- 17:27Speaker 2: their defense put the pressure on Drake may make them uncomfortable.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Interesting game and of course the game at night warm
- 17:36Speaker 2: Weather Dome. Team in the Rams go to Chicago where
- 17:40Speaker 2: they say it's gonna be around ten degrees. Win in Chicago.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I think they can, but we'll see.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I think again, that's another veteran presence verse. Yeah, second
- 17:50Speaker 1: year quarterback. I mean, look, Matt Stafford always pulls out
- 17:55Speaker 1: these wins. I don't know how he does it sometimes,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but he always finds a way to win. So I
- 17:59Speaker 1: would not expect that. Yeah, I'm of course I want
- 18:01Speaker 1: the Bears, and I'm happy they beat the Packers, but
- 18:04Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not again, I'm nervous for that team.
- 18:07Speaker 1: I'm not too optimistic right now. I mean, you get
- 18:11Speaker 1: this monungai in swift Go and yeah, I could see that,
- 18:14Speaker 1: but right now I think you gotta give it to
- 18:17Speaker 1: to the Rams at the moment, but we'll have to see.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, obviously it's gonna keep us glued to
- 18:23Speaker 2: the sets, our sets.
- 18:24Speaker 1: All weekend, all weekend long.
- 18:27Speaker 2: So so that I guess that wraps up football. I mean,
- 18:32Speaker 2: if you want to touch on hockey real quick. Obviously,
- 18:37Speaker 2: the Rangers are in total free fall, giving up ten
- 18:41Speaker 2: goals on Saturday, eight goals last night, and to addition,
- 18:47Speaker 2: in addition to their losing eight out of nine the
- 18:50Speaker 2: last couple of games, they haven't had a Stirkin or
- 18:53Speaker 2: Adam Fox that is, that has been tough for them.
- 18:57Speaker 2: But this is a team in decline. And there's an example.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Here's Mike Sullivan. Mike Sullivan is basically the John Harbar
- 19:07Speaker 2: of the NFL two Stanley Cup Championships. He comes to
- 19:12Speaker 2: New York and I don't know he he might be
- 19:15Speaker 2: here five years and the Rangers might win the Cup,
- 19:17Speaker 2: who knows. But what I'm saying is nothing is for certain.
- 19:21Speaker 2: And he's only been here half a year. But the
- 19:23Speaker 2: Rangers aren't as good as they were even at the
- 19:26Speaker 2: beginning of last year. And it looks like we'll know
- 19:30Speaker 2: at the Olympic break to see where they are. Right now,
- 19:33Speaker 2: they're eight points out of a playoff spot in an
- 19:35Speaker 2: Eastern Conference. That is so tight. You know, the we
- 19:39Speaker 2: thought the Sabers were out of it six weeks ago.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Now you know they've gone on with They went like
- 19:45Speaker 2: thirteen out of their fifteen games and they're in the
- 19:47Speaker 2: playoff spot trying to break that fourteen year playoff drought. Alex,
- 19:54Speaker 2: the Rangers are gonna be selling pieces come to trade deadline.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I really do believe that.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Sell the whole team. We're gonna have nobody on the
- 20:02Speaker 1: team at this point. Come on, now, let's just let's
- 20:04Speaker 1: clean out. It's entirely if you're gonna do it, well,
- 20:06Speaker 1: they're not gonna They're not gonna do that because they're
- 20:08Speaker 1: not gonna be You're not to be able to trade
- 20:09Speaker 1: Laferner because his eight.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Years I'm kidding.
- 20:12Speaker 1: It just frustrates me, Like the Drury situation is a problem.
- 20:16Speaker 1: He blew up the team, and all we're all saying
- 20:19Speaker 1: is for what, why did you do that? There's no
- 20:22Speaker 1: there's been no answer to why he blew up this
- 20:24Speaker 1: chemistry that almost got you there against the Panthers a
- 20:28Speaker 1: couple of years ago.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Well, you see what he would be saying, is we
- 20:32Speaker 2: have to make changes. That that's it. He almost got
- 20:36Speaker 2: us there, so we had to make some changes.
- 20:39Speaker 1: But you know it's especially in the fire Drury trains
- 20:46Speaker 1: out the whole garden. And by the way, I know
- 20:48Speaker 1: tickets are a little less as well. And with my
- 20:51Speaker 1: tick pick link you can get reduced tickets ten dollars credit. Lough.
- 20:55Speaker 1: I don't even check that offer out yet, but it's
- 20:57Speaker 1: a pretty good offer.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Yeah well, uh yeah, well we'll see, We'll see what
- 21:03Speaker 2: they do.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I have to say, I finally found the video of
- 21:07Speaker 1: boy Wonder Matthew Schaeffer on the island. I just love
- 21:11Speaker 1: how that town, that town of Almont and Long Island
- 21:15Speaker 1: just loved the kid. I got Ryan here as well.
- 21:18Speaker 1: You can't see you see, and you were at the
- 21:19Speaker 1: game where he made that incredible goal. I've getten cross checked.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Ryan was there that night, Louis.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Well again, you know how you know early on we
- 21:29Speaker 2: had our eyes on a kid. I mean, uh we
- 21:32Speaker 2: said he had Bobby Or type skills well right away.
- 21:36Speaker 2: And I know you and Ryan are way too young
- 21:40Speaker 2: to uh know, to see Bobby or in his prime.
- 21:43Speaker 2: But when you say Bobby your skills and he was
- 21:45Speaker 2: the greatest defenseman of all time us saying a lot,
- 21:48Speaker 2: and what this kid has done in the first forty.
- 21:51Speaker 1: As you say, are you sure you want to compare
- 21:53Speaker 1: him to that so early on?
- 21:54Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no doubt about it. You're right. Last night,
- 21:59Speaker 2: you know, the other night he scored a goal. Tuesday
- 22:01Speaker 2: night in the game they lost five to four. He
- 22:04Speaker 2: scored his thirteenth doll the year which Bobby Orr scored
- 22:07Speaker 2: thirteen goals in his rookie year, the record seventeen by
- 22:10Speaker 2: Phil Howsley for for rookie defenseman. But the kid is
- 22:15Speaker 2: Alex the kids, as we said last week, is not
- 22:18Speaker 2: only a Calder Trophy candidate for Rookie of the Year,
- 22:21Speaker 2: he's a Norris Trophy candidate. And if somebody gets hurt
- 22:24Speaker 2: on a team Canada defense before they go to Milan,
- 22:28Speaker 2: you know, on first week of February, it looks like
- 22:31Speaker 2: he'll be on the Olympic team. I hope he's not.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I want to see him rested up because he is
- 22:37Speaker 2: only eighteen and he's putting a lot of time, averaging
- 22:39Speaker 2: twenty five minutes a game. This kid could do everything.
- 22:43Speaker 2: But again, the Islanders are only one point ahead of
- 22:47Speaker 2: a playoff spot. They have, but they have over achieved.
- 22:50Speaker 2: They've given us hope. There is the arrows pointing up.
- 22:54Speaker 2: All you want is hope. And you know the Devils
- 22:59Speaker 2: are four points a playoffs spot. Their front office in
- 23:02Speaker 2: a disarray, Alex, we may go into the springtime in
- 23:06Speaker 2: the Stanley Cup playoffs, no Rangers, no Devils, no Islanders
- 23:10Speaker 2: in the playoffs. That that could happen. I mean, you
- 23:14Speaker 2: got up and coming teams.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Who scored a game winning goal last night, and he
- 23:18Speaker 1: was last night. I love Nico here sure as the
- 23:21Speaker 1: future of the Devils. I love Schaeffer, and I also
- 23:24Speaker 1: love J. T. Miller. I know he's a veteran, but
- 23:26Speaker 1: still they made the right captain Joyce. So maybe I
- 23:29Speaker 1: could see these three teams in contention in the in
- 23:32Speaker 1: the couple of years or are a year from now,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I can still see it if they keep pieces in place.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Well, the Devil's time is now, I mean the Devil's
- 23:40Speaker 2: not making the playoffs will be it will be a disaster.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Could coach Sheldon Keifer's job, fitz could couch Fitzgerald's job.
- 23:49Speaker 2: They have the what they do with Dougie Hamilton healthy
- 23:52Speaker 2: scratch he played last night. That's trying that, trying to
- 23:57Speaker 2: get Dougie Hamilton to alleviate some of the no trade
- 24:01Speaker 2: areas he'll go to. I think they've done that with Plot.
- 24:04Speaker 2: I think PTA has eased up a little bit on that. Really, Quinn,
- 24:10Speaker 2: you should be in the Devil's uniform. And if you've
- 24:12Speaker 2: seen Quinn U's play, and I watched him against uh
- 24:15Speaker 2: the Islanders the other night, and I've watched him many times.
- 24:18Speaker 2: The guy controls the game. He's a superstar. So the
- 24:24Speaker 2: Devil's not getting him was a and we've talked about it.
- 24:27Speaker 2: I thought they were going to get him and they didn't,
- 24:29Speaker 2: and that that's that's on. That's on Fitzgerald not being
- 24:34Speaker 2: he wasn't flexible. He didn't have the flexibility to make
- 24:36Speaker 2: that trade at this time.
- 24:38Speaker 1: By the way, I'm looking you mention Shaeffer real quick,
- 24:41Speaker 1: I'm looking at the calendar. So we get to the
- 24:44Speaker 1: playoffs and the super Bowl, and all of a sudden
- 24:46Speaker 1: we're talking Olympics. Then we're talking World Baseball Classic, which
- 24:50Speaker 1: is where I want to end today. I don't care
- 24:52Speaker 1: where Bellinger, why Bellinger's and signya or whatever that he
- 24:55Speaker 1: can't wait. But I mean Clayton Kershaw Team USA. How
- 25:00Speaker 1: is that?
- 25:01Speaker 2: Well? Again, you know what I think of the World
- 25:04Speaker 2: Baseball Classic. I think it's useless. And I'm all about
- 25:08Speaker 2: promoting the game and building the game and developing the
- 25:11Speaker 2: game on the world ride basis any sport. But what
- 25:17Speaker 2: is he gonna gives as that has guys like pull
- 25:21Speaker 2: schemes on their team. Again, it's nice, it's cool, Like
- 25:26Speaker 2: you said, how cool is that? But we'll see good.
- 25:31Speaker 2: You know, if I have nothing else to do, Uh,
- 25:34Speaker 2: maybe I'll tune in for an at bat or two.
- 25:37Speaker 2: I just don't want any of my guys to get
- 25:39Speaker 2: hurt like what happened three years ago when with that
- 25:42Speaker 2: with d Yeah, which roomed the Mets season and probably.
- 25:47Speaker 1: It probably rooms the Mets trajectory over the last couple
- 25:49Speaker 1: of years. But you know, that's what it is, all right.
- 25:53Speaker 1: One other story, it's a lot, a little bit off topic,
- 25:55Speaker 1: but Brooks kept it. Now coming back to PGA, I mean,
- 25:59Speaker 1: this whole thing is kind of bizarre, But you're sort
- 26:02Speaker 1: of a golf guy too. Uh well, the big why
- 26:05Speaker 1: to leave anyway, It doesn't make any sense to me.
- 26:08Speaker 2: The reason they left alex is because they pay themoles
- 26:11Speaker 2: oodles of millions of dollars. Now what I think this is.
- 26:14Speaker 2: And like I said, I am not a golfer. I
- 26:16Speaker 2: don't play golf, but the business of golf. This is
- 26:21Speaker 2: not good for for live and if other guys who
- 26:25Speaker 2: aren't live take advantage of the opportunity to go back
- 26:29Speaker 2: to the PGA in the next twelve to eighteen months,
- 26:33Speaker 2: live might be a thing of the past.
- 26:35Speaker 1: So I would love it. I hate the idea of
- 26:38Speaker 1: some of these Americans going over to Saudi. It just
- 26:41Speaker 1: sickened me to begin. Don't me me sorry about Phil
- 26:44Speaker 1: Micholson that that one was the most and his justification
- 26:49Speaker 1: was it's just.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Like, well again, it's all about money. The NBA is,
- 26:54Speaker 2: the NBA is in Dubai.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Like I know, we have human rights valiations there, but
- 26:58Speaker 1: I don't care.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Yeah, like no, no, they don't, you know, Oh my god.
- 27:05Speaker 1: So it's it's awful. Well, you know what, I'm kind
- 27:10Speaker 1: of I missed him in the PGA tour. I like
- 27:12Speaker 1: the Kepta de Chambo rivalry. I hope that gets renewed.
- 27:16Speaker 1: But man, he can't not be called to sell out
- 27:19Speaker 1: at the same time for going there in the first place.
- 27:22Speaker 1: But I digress, all right, Louis I don't even want
- 27:25Speaker 1: to get into basketball because I thought Christmas Day was
- 27:28Speaker 1: going to be the start of quite a special second
- 27:30Speaker 1: half of the year for the Knicks, and it's just
- 27:33Speaker 1: been flat. They have that win on Christmas Day where
- 27:36Speaker 1: they came back, and they have another massive win when
- 27:39Speaker 1: Trey Young was on the Hawks. They beat him then,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and they've lost like five six straight sids like the
- 27:46Speaker 1: falling apart, and I know they go through slides, but
- 27:49Speaker 1: this is getting a little too much, don't you think, Louis.
- 27:52Speaker 2: Well, Again, the NBA season is long and and you
- 28:00Speaker 2: just sometimes just have your peaks and valleys. I thought
- 28:03Speaker 2: the Knicks would be more buttoned up than they are,
- 28:06Speaker 2: and they're not. The trade deadline is February fifth, so
- 28:12Speaker 2: it's just a couple of weeks away and there'll be
- 28:16Speaker 2: significant trade talks. I do not think the Knicks are
- 28:20Speaker 2: going to make a major trade, but who knows. They're
- 28:23Speaker 2: not gonna get you, honest, because the Milwaukee Bucks are
- 28:28Speaker 2: not going to take Karl Anthony Towns back because I
- 28:33Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know if Carl Anthony Towns is
- 28:37Speaker 2: a winning championship level ball player. He's a very good ballplayer.
- 28:41Speaker 2: They'll get you, they'll get you so far. But obviously
- 28:45Speaker 2: another one no, and.
- 28:47Speaker 1: He is clutch, but I guess his mentality also is
- 28:49Speaker 1: handicapping the team of it. It seems to get in
- 28:52Speaker 1: his head a lot during these games. But you know,
- 28:55Speaker 1: but we'll see what happens, all right. One last thing
- 28:58Speaker 1: I want to talk about before you go. Yep, the
- 29:01Speaker 1: gambling situation has hit the college circuit. I see there
- 29:05Speaker 1: were dozens charging point shaving schemes. I mean, lou one
- 29:09Speaker 1: of these leagues. One is the colleges and crap, when
- 29:13Speaker 1: is ESPN themselves? Who just int a ten year deal
- 29:17Speaker 1: with I think either fandel or draft one of those
- 29:19Speaker 1: guys for ten years? When are they gonna get it?
- 29:22Speaker 1: The more you advertise it, the more it's gonna happen
- 29:25Speaker 1: in their backyard.
- 29:27Speaker 2: There's no doubt a ballot. We've talked about it since
- 29:29Speaker 2: the beginning when it started. I don't know how it's
- 29:34Speaker 2: gonna end up, but uh, and I just I did
- 29:38Speaker 2: not read the story yet when it came out, I
- 29:39Speaker 2: got the alert. I didn't have a chance to look
- 29:41Speaker 2: at it, but I know it's more than a dozen
- 29:43Speaker 2: NCA players.
- 29:44Speaker 1: And then you see why Saint John's GM got fired.
- 29:46Speaker 1: That's crazy too. He embezzled a million dollars in im
- 29:50Speaker 1: only only done it too Cuomo's campaign.
- 29:53Speaker 2: But that is that that report was proven untrue. Correct?
- 29:58Speaker 1: Oh, I guess so. I haven't heard an update on
- 29:59Speaker 1: that one, but hopefully it's not true. I don't want
- 30:03Speaker 1: to hear the guys are embezzling the NIL. But again,
- 30:07Speaker 1: the NIL is actually something. That's how do I say,
- 30:13Speaker 1: proves that the NIL is making this even more trickier
- 30:16Speaker 1: and slipperier for this whole thing. So now you're giving
- 30:21Speaker 1: kids money and they can do what they want. Temple's
- 30:24Speaker 1: guy recently got charged with something also, It's just.
- 30:28Speaker 2: No, it's out of control. I mean, now you have
- 30:30Speaker 2: you know, you can have you have guys staying in
- 30:32Speaker 2: college because they're getting more money than they would if
- 30:35Speaker 2: they were a first round draft pick in the NBA
- 30:38Speaker 2: or the NFL.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Speaking of the NFL draft and the NBA draft, but
- 30:44Speaker 3: this guy out of Oregon who was staying, was that
- 30:47Speaker 3: really going to be the Jets draft pick, this guy
- 30:49Speaker 3: in Oregon or was that just talk?
- 30:52Speaker 2: That was just talk? I mean, if there's still talk
- 30:55Speaker 2: out there that the Raiders are on picking Mendoza, which
- 30:57Speaker 2: I think is crazy if they don't. So if they don't,
- 31:02Speaker 2: depending on who the Raiders higher s head coach. If
- 31:07Speaker 2: by some chance they don't pick Mendoza and they still
- 31:10Speaker 2: have Geno Smith under contract at Big Bucks, they I
- 31:14Speaker 2: think they're crazy if they don't pick Mendoz and but
- 31:16Speaker 2: if by some chance they don't, maybe, well, for once,
- 31:20Speaker 2: the New York Jets will have the sports guards shining
- 31:22Speaker 2: on them and he'll fall to number two again.
- 31:26Speaker 1: I like more.
- 31:29Speaker 2: He only played eighteen or twenty games in the NCAA level. Again,
- 31:36Speaker 2: if he wants to go back to college, I think
- 31:38Speaker 2: it's a mistake. If he blows that blows as Achilles
- 31:41Speaker 2: next year playing for Oregon, or rips up his knee,
- 31:46Speaker 2: that's not good. I mean I would have whether he
- 31:48Speaker 2: gets picked by the Raiders, by the Jets somewhere in
- 31:51Speaker 2: the in the in the top ten, he's gonna make
- 31:54Speaker 2: fifty million bucks guaranteed. So but he decided not to.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I wish him a lot of good luck and you
- 32:00Speaker 2: move forward. I have no idea though, what he's saying
- 32:07Speaker 2: in college. None.
- 32:10Speaker 1: It's just kind of well, all right, well, since we
- 32:13Speaker 1: will probably talk till after the NATTY the National Tournament.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Real quick thought on that from your end, what can
- 32:21Speaker 1: we expect? I mean, it's gonna be a slinging event.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I think both guys are gonna sling it out.
- 32:25Speaker 2: To be honest with you, Yeah, I think it's gonna
- 32:28Speaker 2: be a better game than most people think. I think
- 32:32Speaker 2: Indiana is by far the best team in college football,
- 32:36Speaker 2: one of the most complete teams we've seen in a while.
- 32:39Speaker 2: They have a great offensive line if they don't turn
- 32:42Speaker 2: the ball over, and against Miami's defense, who can put
- 32:48Speaker 2: pressure off on an offensive line and disrupt running backs
- 32:52Speaker 2: and quarterbacks. I think Indiana will probably come out ahead,
- 32:58Speaker 2: but I think it's gonna be a close game, and
- 33:00Speaker 2: I give I give Miami a great chance of winning
- 33:04Speaker 2: this game.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I do, I really do.
- 33:07Speaker 2: And what a way for for Carson Beck to go
- 33:12Speaker 2: out if they if they win it. And I know
- 33:17Speaker 2: a lot of people disagree with me. I think Carson
- 33:20Speaker 2: Beck is going to be some level of an NFL quarterback.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I do.
- 33:25Speaker 2: He's not gonna be drafted in the first round, but
- 33:29Speaker 2: I still think he has a chance to uh to
- 33:31Speaker 2: make some kind of significant push in the NFL.
- 33:37Speaker 1: All right, Well, we'll have to see it, and I'd
- 33:40Speaker 1: be so happy for Carson Beck. I like Mendoz a lot,
- 33:42Speaker 1: but Carson Beck. I just remember a couple of years
- 33:46Speaker 1: ago his Georgia heroics. I mean, kid deserves the national tournament.
- 33:52Speaker 1: He really does here, So we'll have to see.
- 33:55Speaker 2: We will see.
- 33:56Speaker 1: He probably the oldest guy a quarterback to win at
- 33:59Speaker 1: that point, but we'll see. Louis Terminello always a pleasure,
- 34:05Speaker 1: on Termilo's take, and maybe we'll see you at Harbaugh's house.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Yeah, you never know what.
- 34:10Speaker 2: Hey, Alex, thank you for having me on his Breaking
- 34:13Speaker 2: News Thursday. Thanks buddy.
- 34:16Speaker 1: There never is a dull moment, that's for sure. Lou
- 34:19Speaker 1: Urmaello Termilo's take on One Look Up with Alex Scaret
