- 0:05Speaker 1: Jesus Christ. Do you think you are what they say
- 0:11Speaker 1: you are? You remember that day when Saul, who was
- 0:16Speaker 1: persecuting Christians, was on the road to Damascus, and the
- 0:21Speaker 1: blinding light came and he fell down, And the first
- 0:25Speaker 1: question he asked was who art thou Lord?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Who is Jesus? Why cannot we escape him? Why is
- 0:34Speaker 2: he and our.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Conscience and in our mind so that our plays and
- 0:38Speaker 1: our poems and our operas are about him? Is he
- 0:45Speaker 1: just a revolutionary hero? Why is he something more?
- 0:50Speaker 2: He only lived.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Thirty three years, He never traveled more than one hundred miles,
- 0:57Speaker 1: he never had any formal education, and yet two thousand
- 1:02Speaker 1: years later, an entire generation is talking about Jesus Christ.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Some say that he was a madman? Was he? There
- 1:19Speaker 1: were others that said he was revolutionary, he'd come to
- 1:23Speaker 1: lead a revolution.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Was he a revolutionary in the sense that he changed
- 1:29Speaker 2: men's lives? He was, but he never led a revolution
- 1:32Speaker 2: against Rome? Or was Jesus an establishment man?
- 1:40Speaker 1: Jesus Christ is not the establishment Christ. He's building another kingdom.
- 1:49Speaker 1: He's building an eternal kingdom. And then there were people
- 1:53Speaker 1: that said that he was deliberately evil, that he was
- 1:56Speaker 1: an evil man.
- 1:57Speaker 2: That he was a devil.
- 2:00Speaker 1: What was he? That's the question, Jesus Christ, Who are you?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Who is Jesus?
- 2:13Speaker 1: We can't escape him, We try to run from him,
- 2:16Speaker 1: But there he is. He keeps popping up everywhere. Our
- 2:23Speaker 1: greatest philosophers write about him, our greatest historians write about him.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Our greatest poems and plays.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Are about him.
- 2:34Speaker 1: You go anywhere in the Soviet Union and you'll see
- 2:37Speaker 1: images and art and.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Much of the music has to do with Jesus. They
- 2:44Speaker 2: can't escape him.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Well, we know some things about him. We know he
- 2:50Speaker 1: was a man. Jesus was completely human. He was representative
- 2:57Speaker 1: of man, because the Bible says he was ident.
- 3:00Speaker 2: He was numbered with the transgressors. We know that he
- 3:05Speaker 2: was hungry. We know he got thirsty. We know he
- 3:07Speaker 2: got tired.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We know that he had the joys of friendship. We
- 3:11Speaker 1: know that he wept at the tomb of a dead Loveland.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We know that he had all the characteristics of a man.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And yet, very interestingly, the Bible says that he never
- 3:23Speaker 1: committed a sin. There isn't a trial or a testing
- 3:29Speaker 1: or a temptation that Jesus has not been through before you.
- 3:33Speaker 2: And he resisted them and overcame them all. He was
- 3:42Speaker 2: a man just like you, But he was more than that.
- 3:49Speaker 2: He claimed to be.
- 3:51Speaker 1: The unique, only begotten, incarnate son of God.
- 3:59Speaker 2: In fact, he claimed pre existence. The Scripture says, in
- 4:04Speaker 2: the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
- 4:07Speaker 2: God before time began. He existed. He said, before.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Abraham was I am, I am in eternal existence.
- 4:25Speaker 2: No wonder they got angry, No wonder they threw stones.
- 4:29Speaker 1: At him, No wonder they tried to kill him, and
- 4:31Speaker 1: no wonder they eventually did crucified.
- 4:33Speaker 2: He stood and said, I am God.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Was he.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Was he who he claimed me.
- 4:46Speaker 1: The son of the Living God. Jesus Christ claimed to
- 4:56Speaker 1: be the son of the Living God. And you know
- 5:00Speaker 1: at his incarnation or his birth, that was not his birth,
- 5:05Speaker 1: or that wasn't the beginning. That wasn't the origin of Jesus.
- 5:09Speaker 2: That was the beginning.
- 5:11Speaker 1: That was the beginning of his incarnation, because he has
- 5:14Speaker 1: always existed, from everlasting to everlasting.
- 5:19Speaker 2: He is God, the Bible says.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
- 5:27Speaker 3: In other words, the logos the Lord of God, the
- 5:32Speaker 3: eternal God.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, and lived
- 5:38Speaker 1: like a man among us. He was not just another
- 5:42Speaker 1: great man.
- 5:44Speaker 2: He was God in the flesh and all.
- 5:49Speaker 1: The ethics that he taught. Never a man spake like
- 5:53Speaker 1: that man in the Ten Commandments. Thou shall not commit adultery.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But I tell you that if you even look on
- 6:01Speaker 1: a woman to lust, after you've already committed it, he said.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Moses said, now shall not murder. But I tell you,
- 6:09Speaker 1: if you have hate in your heart against your brother
- 6:11Speaker 1: without cause, you're already guilty. He lifted man's ethics to
- 6:17Speaker 1: the highest plane and demanded.
- 6:21Speaker 2: That we live that kind of a life.
- 6:26Speaker 1: He himself lived that kind of a life. How do
- 6:31Speaker 1: you explain, Jesus, Jesus Christ, are you what you say
- 6:39Speaker 1: you are? You know? They only brought three charges against him.
- 6:43Speaker 1: To crucify one, they said, this man loves sinners. That
- 6:51Speaker 1: was one charge. The second he healed on the Sabbath day,
- 6:55Speaker 1: and the third he claimed to be the son of God.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Was he the son of God? Look at his authority.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Jesus came under them and spake under them, saying, all
- 7:10Speaker 1: authority has been given to me. I know one thing.
- 7:15Speaker 1: He forgave sin, and no prophet ever did that.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And then look at the death he died. Did ever a.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Man die like Jesus. The lightning flashed, and the thunder roar,
- 7:29Speaker 1: and the earth began to shake, and even the soldiers
- 7:33Speaker 1: confessed that this must be the son of God. Any
- 7:37Speaker 1: One that can see Jesus on that cross and not
- 7:40Speaker 1: be touched has a heart of stone. They first took
- 7:45Speaker 1: off his clothes.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Then they took long leather thongs.
- 7:50Speaker 1: With steel pellets or lead pellets on the end, and
- 7:54Speaker 1: beat him across the back until he could hardly stand up.
- 8:00Speaker 1: He put a crown of thorns on his brow, and.
- 8:02Speaker 4: His face was bleeding, and they laughed at him, and
- 8:06Speaker 4: they spit on him, and they mocked him. And with
- 8:09Speaker 4: one snap of his finger, seventy two thousand angels had
- 8:13Speaker 4: already drawn their swords, ready to come to his rescue
- 8:16Speaker 4: and wipe this planet out of existence in the universe.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And Jesus said, no, to this end was I born.
- 8:26Speaker 2: And he dragged and lifted in paul that cross.
- 8:31Speaker 1: The man that helped Jesus carry that cross was a
- 8:35Speaker 1: black man.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And don't ever forget another thing. Jesus belongs to.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Africa as much as he does to Europe and Asia.
- 8:48Speaker 1: He was born in that part of the world that
- 8:50Speaker 1: touches Africa and Asia and Europe. And Jesus was not
- 8:54Speaker 1: a white man like me, nor was he as black
- 8:59Speaker 1: as some of you. We don't know what the color
- 9:02Speaker 1: of his skin, but it must have been a dark
- 9:03Speaker 1: color like the people of his day, because he was
- 9:06Speaker 1: a man like them.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Don't ever say it's a white man's religion or a
- 9:12Speaker 4: black man's religion.
- 9:14Speaker 2: It's a world religion. He belongs to the world.
- 9:19Speaker 1: When he died on that cross, they nailed him, they
- 9:23Speaker 1: put the nails in his hands, and.
- 9:26Speaker 2: You know what he said, forgive them. They know not
- 9:29Speaker 2: what they do. Forgive them. Could you forgive somebody that's
- 9:33Speaker 2: putting nails in your hands?
- 9:35Speaker 1: And you know you didn't desert. That's how he confronted
- 9:40Speaker 1: the violence of his death.
- 9:44Speaker 2: And then on the cross.
- 9:49Speaker 1: He said, my God, wise, thou forsaken me.
- 9:52Speaker 2: And then he dropped his head and said, it's finished.
- 9:56Speaker 2: What did he mean?
- 10:02Speaker 1: He meant your plan of salvation was finished. God can
- 10:06Speaker 1: now forgive you of all your sins because Jesus had
- 10:10Speaker 1: finished God's plan for your salvation. Because you see, God
- 10:14Speaker 1: knows every one of you by name. He has the
- 10:17Speaker 1: hands of you a head number. God looks upon you
- 10:20Speaker 1: as though you were the only person in the whole universe.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He sees you and you alone, and on that cross.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Jesus had the capacity to think of you, and he
- 10:32Speaker 1: loved you enough to stay on the cross.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Was there ever such love as that?
- 10:38Speaker 1: When he could have been rescued and taken back to
- 10:42Speaker 1: heaven to sit on his throne, but he didn't. He said, no,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I'm doing it for the joy that is set before me.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Because he saw that he would be raised from the dead.
- 10:55Speaker 1: He saw that they would be a gathering in the
- 10:57Speaker 1: generations to come, of a people for his aim that
- 11:00Speaker 1: would make up his body. He saw the day when
- 11:03Speaker 1: we will reign with him in his kingdom.
