• 2:50
  Speaker 3: happy Friday.
• 2:51
Speaker 5: GG is what I'm saying.
• 2:54
  Speaker 3: Excited about Friday?
• 2:55
  Speaker 6: Are you?
• 2:56
  Speaker 5: Oh? Absolutely?
• 2:58
Speaker 3: I think I think we all are. So we got
• 3:03
Speaker 3: The picture of our pet has always posted on Dave
• 3:06
Speaker 3: Island Radio, on Facebook and at Dave A seventy on X.
• 3:10
  Speaker 3: Webkin is our cat w E b k I N Webkin.
• 3:15
Speaker 3: I have to first ask about the name. Sometimes you
• 3:17
Speaker 3: guys don't have a rhyme or reason about the names,
• 3:19
Speaker 3: but is there any story behind the name Webkin.
• 3:22
Speaker 5: The other day I actually sat down at my desk
• 3:25
Speaker 5: and was like, what if we did like the next
• 3:27
Speaker 5: you know, fifty animals that come in, they're named after
• 3:29
Speaker 5: things from the nineties and two thousands, so Webcin along
• 3:34
Speaker 5: with Silly band Tomagatchi, we have all kinds of them.
• 3:38
Speaker 5: So that was really the rhyme or reason behind that,
• 3:42
Speaker 5: And when she came in, we were like, oh, yeah,
• 3:43
Speaker 5: this is definitely Webkin.
• 3:45
Speaker 3: Well she at Webcin is an absolutely beautiful cat and
• 3:49
Speaker 3: tell us our story. She was brought into the shelter
• 3:52
Speaker 3: after being hit by a car.
• 3:53
Speaker 5: Is that right correct? Her story actually is very restores
• 3:58
Speaker 5: your faith in humanity a little. These two little girls
• 4:01
Speaker 5: actually found Webkin and took her to this old lady's
• 4:05
Speaker 5: house that they sought she belonged to, and the lady,
• 4:10
Speaker 5: you know, was like, this isn't my cat, but you know,
• 4:12
Speaker 5: I'll post it on Facebook. And one of our fosters,
• 4:15
Speaker 5: the foster of Norma Pet of the Week last week
• 4:18
Speaker 5: actually saw that post and asked if we could help,
• 4:21
Speaker 5: and since it was in the st Albans area, we
• 4:23
Speaker 5: absolutely can. So the foster for Norma brought Webcin up
• 4:28
Speaker 5: to the shelter and you know, it was de termined.
• 4:30
Speaker 5: She was hit by a car. Our vet our vet
• 4:33
Speaker 5: team got her fixed up. She is still she's still healing,
• 4:37
Speaker 5: but she's available for an option now and she is
• 4:40
Speaker 5: just the absolute sweetest cat.
• 4:42
Speaker 3: She seems to be from what you told me. She
• 4:45
Speaker 3: is about four years old.
• 4:46
  Speaker 7: Is that right?
• 4:48
Speaker 5: Yeah, about four years old and she If you have cats,
• 4:51
Speaker 5: you know that they typically don't like their belly rugs.
• 4:53
Speaker 5: But Webkin will literally roll over for belly rub well.
• 4:57
Speaker 3: We have in my wife and I have two cats.
• 4:59
Speaker 3: One not so much on it. The other not only
• 5:01
Speaker 3: does he like his belly rubbed, he wants me to
• 5:04
Speaker 3: stretch him so literally he lays in front of me.
• 5:07
Speaker 3: I grab his front paws and his back paws and
• 5:10
Speaker 3: I pull him apart. I'm not pulled him apart. I
• 5:11
Speaker 3: don't want Peter to get to get involved, but he
• 5:14
Speaker 3: actually he actually enjoys it. So, but you're right, most
• 5:17
Speaker 3: cats do not like their bellies rubbed at all. And
• 5:20
Speaker 3: he loves treats too, I understand right.
• 5:22
Speaker 5: Yes, Webkin is a fan of treats. Where we're talking
• 5:26
Speaker 5: wet food, the little temptations, catnip trees, anything you got,
• 5:30
Speaker 5: she's a big fan of it.
• 5:32
Speaker 3: All right, let's talk about some other events and she
• 5:35
Speaker 3: going on to the shelter. One of the things that
• 5:37
Speaker 3: you always need is donations. Of course, money can't go
• 5:41
Speaker 3: wrong with cash always good. People think I think about
• 5:44
Speaker 3: things like blankets and food and things like that, but
• 5:47
Speaker 3: I was reading this on on your social media. There
• 5:50
Speaker 3: are other things that can be donated that you're in
• 5:52
Speaker 3: need of, things people may not think about, like thermometers,
• 5:55
Speaker 3: grooming clippers, heating pads, dishwashing, and laundry to charge it,
• 5:59
Speaker 3: lots of different things.
• 6:01
Speaker 5: Yeah, so we do a lot of cleaning at our shelter.
• 6:03
Speaker 5: So if you can use that particular product for cleaning,
• 6:06
Speaker 5: and I'm talking glove fabuloso, little steel wool scrubby pads.
• 6:10
Speaker 5: We can use any type of key cleaning product in
• 6:13
Speaker 5: our shelter, which is something I feel like people don't
• 6:16
Speaker 5: think a lot when it comes to donations. So cleaning
• 6:20
Speaker 5: products are a big one. Also, lots of medical products.
• 6:23
Speaker 5: If you work for a hospital and have like expired
• 6:26
Speaker 5: syringes or expired bags of fluids, heating pads, thermometers, things
• 6:30
Speaker 5: like that, our medical team can also use.
• 6:32
Speaker 3: Those very good. Again, we're talking with Angie Gillen Water
• 6:35
Speaker 3: from the Kana charst and You Maine Association. And as always,
• 6:39
Speaker 3: if you want to take a look at the pet
• 6:41
Speaker 3: we're talking about, go over to my social media and
• 6:43
Speaker 3: you can take a look at I do want to
• 6:44
Speaker 3: remind you that today Valance Show on five eighty Live
• 6:46
Speaker 3: is brought to you apart by Morgan and Morgan, America's
• 6:48
Speaker 3: largest injury law firm. Gotta be uh And I have
• 6:53
Speaker 3: a text about this asking about this. I was going
• 6:55
Speaker 3: to get to it anyway. Appreciate the text for one
• 6:56
Speaker 3: of the biggest take INDs in shelter history. And you
• 7:00
Speaker 3: have the story again posted about it on your social
• 7:02
Speaker 3: media and your Facebook page and whatnot. A man was
• 7:05
Speaker 3: working on a construction site and lifted up a palette
• 7:09
Speaker 3: to find thirty eight thirty eight cats there. Now they
• 7:16
Speaker 3: were kittens and four mamas, all hungry, all scared. What
• 7:20
Speaker 3: can you tell us?
• 7:23
Speaker 5: So we actually just talked to the man before we
• 7:26
Speaker 5: saw the cats and he said, you know, I lifted
• 7:28
Speaker 5: up that palette and cats went everywhere, and we were thinking, okay,
• 7:31
Speaker 5: well let us see what you got. And when he
• 7:34
Speaker 5: brought them in, I think everybody in our building their
• 7:37
Speaker 5: jaws just hit the floor. Because Cat's true, we did
• 7:39
Speaker 5: go everywhere with that amount. But all of them where
• 7:42
Speaker 5: they had been outside, they were all really hot, panting,
• 7:46
Speaker 5: Almost all of them were sick. I think the mamas
• 7:48
Speaker 5: were the only exception to not having their eyes crusted shut.
• 7:52
Speaker 5: But we have gotten and started on meds, and our
• 7:55
Speaker 5: amazing foster care coordinator got almost all of them, all
• 7:59
Speaker 5: all of those kittens out of the building yesterday into
• 8:02
Speaker 5: foster care where all of them are going to, you know,
• 8:06
Speaker 5: get their meds, wait and just grow big and strong
• 8:09
Speaker 5: for adoption. So but that when he got those cats
• 8:12
Speaker 5: out of his truck, personally, my jaw was on the floor.
• 8:16
Speaker 5: I've never seen that many cats in one spot.
• 8:18
Speaker 3: So he actually took the time to bring them in,
• 8:21
Speaker 3: is what you're saying. In his truck? How does one
• 8:23
Speaker 3: transport forty cats in a truck? Did he just leave
• 8:26
Speaker 3: him in the palette? I mean, is that what he did?
• 8:28
Speaker 5: So he actually he happened to have his own personal
• 8:32
Speaker 5: dogs crate in his truck that day, so a chunk
• 8:36
Speaker 5: of them went into his own personal dog's crate. And
• 8:38
Speaker 5: then there also happened to be a very broken but
• 8:42
Speaker 5: it still worked. He fashioned it to where it would
• 8:44
Speaker 5: work a rabbit hutch on the property that he was working,
• 8:47
Speaker 5: and he put some in that as well, so he
• 8:50
Speaker 5: was able to catch all those cats and get them
• 8:53
  Speaker 5: to us safely.
• 8:54
Speaker 3: It's it's not our place, I guess sometimes to ask
• 8:58
Speaker 3: why of Mother nature how this happens, But it does
• 9:01
Speaker 3: make you scratch your head a little bit, angie and think,
• 9:03
Speaker 3: how did those cats know to get you know, under
• 9:08
Speaker 3: that or inside or whatever it was that palette? I mean,
• 9:11
Speaker 3: I guess just their their instincts, I mean, and how
• 9:14
Speaker 3: long had they been there? I guess There's a lot
• 9:15
Speaker 3: of questions that you'll just never know the answers to correct.
• 9:18
Speaker 5: And I'm very thankful at the fact that the timing
• 9:22
Speaker 5: of this man was what it was, because the severity
• 9:25
Speaker 5: of the infections that these kittens had, plus their exposure
• 9:28
Speaker 5: to the heat, it would not have been long until
• 9:31
Speaker 5: we would have lost a couple of them, had you know,
• 9:34
Speaker 5: they've been exposed to the elements any longer. So also
• 9:37
Speaker 5: just the timing of him being able to pick up
• 9:40
Speaker 5: that palette at that time and also being able to
• 9:42
Speaker 5: catch them all is certainly something that you.
• 9:45
Speaker 3: Know, it just makes you wonder well, hats off to
• 9:47
Speaker 3: that gentleman too, because a lot of people in that
• 9:50
Speaker 3: in that situation would have probably just moved on or
• 9:53
Speaker 3: would have I mean, you know, I mean, you hear
• 9:55
Speaker 3: these horror stories of the time if you don't like
• 9:57
Speaker 3: to think about it, but they could have easily you know,
• 10:00
Speaker 3: shot them, poison them or anything like that. And hats
• 10:03
Speaker 3: off to that gentleman who's kind of like a guardian
• 10:05
Speaker 3: angel to all those cats.
• 10:07
Speaker 5: Correct. I think I responded to one of the comments
• 10:09
Speaker 5: on Facebook and I said, you know, that man is
• 10:11
Speaker 5: just one hero these kittens are going to meet in
• 10:13
Speaker 5: their lifetime. That's probably their first hero that they're going
• 10:16
Speaker 5: to meet. So definitely a big thank.
• 10:19
  Speaker 2: You to him.
• 10:20
Speaker 3: Absolutely. And you guys are doing some hiring. I understand.
• 10:24
Speaker 5: Yes, we had open interviews yesterday and we got to
• 10:27
Speaker 5: see lots of new faces. And if you weren't able
• 10:30
Speaker 5: to make it to open interviews yesterday, still email us
• 10:33
Speaker 5: your resume because it's all hands on deck during tuffy
• 10:37
Speaker 5: and kitten season, which is what we call the spring
• 10:39
Speaker 5: and summer time months.
• 10:40
Speaker 3: What do you look for in a potential employee there?
• 10:43
Speaker 3: Obviously you've got to have a love of animals, but
• 10:45
Speaker 3: it goes well beyond that to do that kind of
• 10:47
Speaker 3: work that you all do.
• 10:49
Speaker 5: Correct our big values at KSEYHA. We want people that
• 10:53
Speaker 5: are honest and accountable. So it's you know, it's okay
• 10:56
Speaker 5: if you mess up on something or if you don't
• 10:58
Speaker 5: know how to do something, as long as you you know,
• 11:01
Speaker 5: let us know that. But honest, accountable, a love for animals,
• 11:05
Speaker 5: and pretty much very open and big heart of understanding
• 11:10
Speaker 5: and trying to navigate situations that you know it may
• 11:14
Speaker 5: not be the best because trust me, some days are
• 11:16
Speaker 5: better than others at the shelter, So you have to
• 11:19
Speaker 5: be able to not only navigate those situations, but try
• 11:22
Speaker 5: to just remain hopeful also in those situations.
• 11:25
Speaker 3: I mean, as much as I love animals, Angie, and
• 11:28
Speaker 3: I have all the respect in the world for what
• 11:30
Speaker 3: you folks do up there and all the shelters and
• 11:31
Speaker 3: all the rescues and whatever and there, I could never
• 11:34
Speaker 3: do that as a job. And you probably hear that
• 11:36
Speaker 3: a lot because people, I mean again, you, when you
• 11:39
Speaker 3: hear this story about those you know, forty to thirty
• 11:43
Speaker 3: eight to forty cats being brought in, I would be like, Okay,
• 11:45
Speaker 3: I'm taking all these home. I'm going to take care
• 11:47
Speaker 3: of them. And you can't do that. You simply can't
• 11:50
Speaker 3: do that. So hat soft you up for doing that
• 11:52
Speaker 3: kind of work. I do want to remind people you've
• 11:54
Speaker 3: got tuxes and tails coming up. Talk about that.
• 11:57
Speaker 5: We do, and it is getting closer and close, sir
• 12:01
Speaker 5: is Saturday, May the third, six pm at the Ruffner,
• 12:05
Speaker 5: which we're super excited about. We're switching locations this year,
• 12:09
Speaker 5: so we're super excited for new views, a new atmosphere
• 12:13
Speaker 5: for tuxes and tails. The theme is down in Derby,
• 12:16
Speaker 5: so we're thinking pastel, floral, big hats, horse related. If
• 12:20
Speaker 5: you want to come dressed as a jockey, we will
• 12:22
Speaker 5: love that. But that is Texan.
• 12:25
Speaker 3: Yeah, next week. When I said it was soon, I
• 12:29
Speaker 3: guess it just didn't cocrrect me. That's that's actually next weekend, right, Yeah,
• 12:33
  Speaker 3: don't don't tell me that. I'm sure you'll do fine
• 12:36
Speaker 3: up there. You always did quickly. I know you have
• 12:38
Speaker 3: several events in the valley coming up over the next
• 12:41
Speaker 3: several months, because that's what you folks do during the
• 12:43
Speaker 3: warm weather months. You're out at about a different fairs
• 12:45
Speaker 3: and festivals and appearing at businesses and whatever. This past Saturday,
• 12:49
Speaker 3: I was over with the folks at Green Infusion over
• 12:53
Speaker 3: on the West End. We did a live broadcast on
• 12:54
Speaker 3: our sister stationed the Mountain over there, and I know
• 12:57
Speaker 3: on their big board over there that they had that
• 12:59
Speaker 3: you had you have an event coming up over there
• 13:02
Speaker 3: as well. So the best thing to do is follow
• 13:04
Speaker 3: you guys on your Facebook page because you always post
• 13:07
Speaker 3: where you are. As I said, you're at a lot
• 13:09
Speaker 3: of affairs, a lot of festivals, a lot of different
• 13:12
Speaker 3: stores and things of that nature. You guys do a
• 13:14
Speaker 3: great job getting out of the community, and sometimes getting
• 13:17
Speaker 3: out in the community really helps a lot, does it not?
• 13:20
Speaker 5: Absolutely? I would say just about every single event that
• 13:23
Speaker 5: I take our puppies or kittens or dogs or whatever,
• 13:27
Speaker 5: just about every event I take them to, we have
• 13:29
Speaker 5: at least one at option or one foster, So that
• 13:33
Speaker 5: is successful in my book.
• 13:34
Speaker 3: Indeed, Angie, I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot.
• 13:37
Speaker 3: We'll talk again next week.
• 13:39
Speaker 5: All right, you have a good one.
• 13:40
Speaker 3: All right, to Angie Gillawata from the Canal Charleston Humane
• 13:43
Speaker 3: Association again recapping Webkin is our pet of the week.
• 13:47
Speaker 3: It's a cat this week came into the shelter after
• 13:50
Speaker 3: being hit by a car. She was discovered by two
• 13:53
Speaker 3: little girls who then took the cat to a lady
• 13:57
Speaker 3: that she thought was the owner. The owners or the
• 14:00
Speaker 3: lady said no, I don't that's not my cat. But
• 14:02
Speaker 3: I will put it on Facebook and we'll try to
• 14:04
Speaker 3: get some help, and ended up being fostered. And Webkin
• 14:06
Speaker 3: is recovering very very nicely. She is, actually, she's pretty
• 14:10
Speaker 3: much fully recovered at this point. She's already spade. She's
• 14:13
Speaker 3: four years old, loves treats, loves other cats, and loves
• 14:17
Speaker 3: belly rubs and she is an absolutely beautiful, beautiful cat.
• 14:20
Speaker 3: If you want to see her picture, I've got it
• 14:22
Speaker 3: posted on my social media Dave Alan Radio, or you
• 14:24
Speaker 3: can go to at Dave A seventy on x the
• 14:27

• 17:14
Speaker 3: to doctor Sacks, Doctor Sacks, you just hang on with
• 17:16
Speaker 3: us one second, because I don't know what I don't know.
• 17:20
Speaker 3: We were talking about our pet of the week webkin,
• 17:22
Speaker 3: and Angie from the Canna Charston Humane Association said that
• 17:26
Speaker 3: is a nod that they started naming pats that they
• 17:29
Speaker 3: bring in after things in the nineties and two thousands.
• 17:32
Speaker 3: I had this very confused look on my face, as
• 17:34
Speaker 3: I typically do, and that's why we have senior producer
• 17:39
Speaker 3: Ryan Nicholson, who began to explain to me what webkin
• 17:42
Speaker 3: was during the break and I said, how about you
• 17:44
Speaker 3: just do that on air. So mister Nicholson explain.
• 17:48
Speaker 11: All right, So back in the early two thousands, Webkins
• 17:51
Speaker 11: was a brand of stuffed animals, and each stuffed animal
• 17:55
Speaker 11: would have like a little a little tag, and on
• 17:58
Speaker 11: that tag was a little code, and you would go
• 18:00
Speaker 11: to the Webkins website and you would like punch in
• 18:04
Speaker 11: the code, and whether your stuffed animal was like an
• 18:07
Speaker 11: elephant or a lion, or a dog or cat, you
• 18:10
Speaker 11: could play with that stuffed animal on your on the website,
• 18:14
Speaker 11: on your computer and play little games with it, and
• 18:17
Speaker 11: it really puts the web in Webkins.
• 18:20
Speaker 3: I got it. Yeah. See see, that's that's why we
• 18:23
Speaker 3: had to have people like you around, you know, to
• 18:25
Speaker 3: help the old people. I appreciate it. Man, Brian Nicholson,
• 18:28
Speaker 3: our senior producer. Let's bring in doctor Casey Sachs, Bridge Valley.
• 18:32
Speaker 3: How are you, doctor Sachs.
• 18:34
Speaker 7: Hey if I'm wonderful, how are you today?
• 18:35
Speaker 3: I am fine. Did you know what Webkins were?
• 18:38
Speaker 7: I had no idea.
• 18:39
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 18:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's why we have senior producers around to
• 18:43
Speaker 3: explain things so well. Webkin is a beautiful cat, by
• 18:46
Speaker 3: the way. Not putting pressure on you but you know
• 18:48
Speaker 3: you need a cat doctor. I have two, you need
• 18:51
  Speaker 3: another one.
• 18:53
Speaker 7: They don't think so well.
• 18:54
Speaker 3: This one gets along well with other cats. And she
• 18:57
Speaker 3: was brought in she was hit by a car and
• 19:00
Speaker 3: she's fully healed, now four years old. I got her
• 19:03
Speaker 3: picture posted over on my social media Dave aland Radio
• 19:05
Speaker 3: and at dave A seventy on X would make a
• 19:07
Speaker 3: wonderful addition to your household. I'm just saying, well, I.
• 19:12
Speaker 7: Hope someone else decides to go save her forever.
• 19:16
Speaker 3: The diplomat is doctor Casey Sachs of Bridge Valley. All right,
• 19:20
Speaker 3: so you called or actually texted to me and said
• 19:24
Speaker 3: that celebration season is upon us at Bridge Valley. Talk
• 19:27
  Speaker 3: about it?
• 19:28
  Speaker 12: Is it?
• 19:28
Speaker 7: Ever? It's really fun. We have, of course, graduation coming up.
• 19:32
Speaker 7: The ninth is the college's graduation. The tenth is the
• 19:35
Speaker 7: Win Academy's graduation. We do lots of penning ceremonies. A
• 19:40
Speaker 7: tradition for students who are in different health science fields
• 19:43
Speaker 7: is to get their pen for that field. So it's
• 19:46
Speaker 7: dental and sonography and RN and LPN and medical ab tech.
• 19:50
Speaker 7: It's really fun. It's a whole bunch of celebrations from
• 19:54
Speaker 7: now through mid May.
• 19:56
Speaker 3: It's that season. You know, it's that season when you
• 19:58
Speaker 3: get all these things going on. I know you're going
• 20:00
Speaker 3: to be very very busy, as all the folks that
• 20:03
Speaker 3: understaff will be. You folks just picked up a win
• 20:07
Speaker 3: if you will for your Win Academy. Talk about that.
• 20:10
  Speaker 6: That's right.
• 20:11
Speaker 7: So the Win Academy was just recognized by the Education
• 20:15
Speaker 7: Alliance winning a regional what's called Hope for the Future award,
• 20:19
Speaker 7: and so we're pretty excited about that. It really highlights
• 20:22
Speaker 7: the partnership we have with WU Medicine Thomas Hospitals for
• 20:26
Speaker 7: our high school students to be able to do clinicals
• 20:28
Speaker 7: in the nursing program.
• 20:29
Speaker 3: It's very exciting and for and again, you've been coming
• 20:33
Speaker 3: on my show for the like last year or so
• 20:35
Speaker 3: or maybe two. How long have you been coming on
• 20:37
Speaker 3: the show. When did you get to a rive at
• 20:38
  Speaker 3: Bridge Valley?
• 20:39
Speaker 7: I started here in twenty twenty one.
• 20:41
Speaker 3: Okay, so shortly thereafter we started doing these segments a
• 20:44
Speaker 3: couple of times a month with you. But for those
• 20:46
Speaker 3: who may not know, explain what the Win Academy is.
• 20:49
Speaker 7: The Win Academy is a public high school here in Charleston.
• 20:53
Speaker 7: It leverages the state's ability to do charters. So it's
• 20:57
Speaker 7: a specialized curriculum and first specialized group. It's just for
• 21:02
Speaker 7: high school students who are interested to go into healthcare
• 21:05
Speaker 7: or manufacturing, and it allows students to come here full
• 21:08
Speaker 7: time and pursue what looks like a college major concurrently
• 21:12
Speaker 7: while they complete their high school diploma. So when I
• 21:14
Speaker 7: talk about those graduation ceremonies, we will have students who
• 21:18
Speaker 7: graduate with an associate's degree in college the day before
• 21:21
Speaker 7: they graduate with their high school diploma.
• 21:23
Speaker 3: I mean, how cool is that? I mean because I
• 21:27
Speaker 3: can remember one hundred and eighty eight years ago when
• 21:29
Speaker 3: I graduated from high school and I graduated in May
• 21:33
Speaker 3: or whatever it was, and then I started college in August,
• 21:37
Speaker 3: and you know, a college degree was just a dream,
• 21:40
Speaker 3: you know at that point. And you're talking about people
• 21:43
Speaker 3: walking out before they walk across the stage of their
• 21:46
Speaker 3: high school. They were going to walk across the stage
• 21:48
Speaker 3: or whatever they decide to do at Bridge Valley before
• 21:50
Speaker 3: they even get their high school diploma.
• 21:52
Speaker 7: They will the day before. We're really excited for them.
• 21:54
Speaker 7: We've got several students this year who were able to
• 21:57
Speaker 7: accomplish that goal, and it's really fun. You know, last
• 22:00
Speaker 7: year we were the only high school in the state
• 22:02
Speaker 7: that boasted one hundred percent of our high school graduates
• 22:05
Speaker 7: going to college. It's a pretty big deal. And we've
• 22:09
Speaker 7: got students who are very focused and certainly interested in
• 22:12
Speaker 7: pretty specific careers. But for a student who's ready and
• 22:15
Speaker 7: who wants to be a nurse or who wants to
• 22:17
Speaker 7: go into manufacturing, it's a really great deal for their family.
• 22:20
Speaker 3: It is, indeed, And I always talk about your partnerships
• 22:24
Speaker 3: that you have with various other businesses, and there was
• 22:27
Speaker 3: a big announcement made over the last couple of days
• 22:29
Speaker 3: with Toyota. As a matter of fact, I think the
• 22:31
Speaker 3: guys on talk Line are going to get in to
• 22:34
Speaker 3: that expansion of some of the services that are being
• 22:36
Speaker 3: offered at the Toyota plant over in Buffalo Putnam County.
• 22:40
Speaker 3: And I bring that up because you got a whole
• 22:42
Speaker 3: lot of folks that a lot of a lot of
• 22:45
Speaker 3: Bridge Valley students that are doing some great things with Toyota.
• 22:47
Speaker 7: We really are actually one of our best billboards ever
• 22:50
Speaker 7: said do you want to work at Toyota, go to
• 22:52
  Speaker 7: Bridge Valley.
• 22:53
Speaker 3: You can't beat that, right, truth and advertising it.
• 22:56
Speaker 7: Really, I'm so so pleased. Toyota has been a wonderful partner.
• 23:01
Speaker 7: They have one of their executives who's a member of
• 23:04
Speaker 7: our Bridge Value Board. They're very committed to education in
• 23:08
Speaker 7: the region. It's not even just with Bridge Valley, it's
• 23:10
Speaker 7: with other education partners too. They really need good talent
• 23:13
Speaker 7: and they're interested in people who have manufacturing and engineering skills.
• 23:18
Speaker 7: And it's wonderful that they hire students right out of
• 23:20
  Speaker 7: our programming.
• 23:21
Speaker 3: Talking to doctor Casey Sachs Abridge Valley Older adult Shop.

• 23:36
Speaker 3: got a camp out coming up for this summer for
• 23:40
Speaker 3: fifth and eighth graders, and this is the time of
• 23:42
Speaker 3: the year when parents start talking about the camps for
• 23:45
Speaker 3: their kids. Talk about this camp you got going on?
• 23:47
Speaker 7: We do so we've run it for gosh years before
• 23:50
  Speaker 7: I even got here. It's a camp that's really focused
• 23:53
Speaker 7: on math and science and engineering, and so they do
• 23:57
Speaker 7: a lot of hands on build robots kind of activities.
• 24:01
Speaker 7: It's for fifth and eighth graders. It's July twenty first
• 24:03
Speaker 7: through twenty fifth. So if you have a kid who's
• 24:05
Speaker 7: that age and they're not already signed up for camp experience,
• 24:09
Speaker 7: I'd really encourage folks to sign up students. It's one
• 24:12
Speaker 7: hundred and fifty dollars and we have scholarships. If your
• 24:15
Speaker 7: family says that's too expensive, but it sounds like a
• 24:17
Speaker 7: good experience for your kid.
• 24:19
Speaker 3: Well, Doctor Casey Sachs, it's always a pleasure to have
• 24:22
Speaker 3: you on the show. And we'll have a thought and
• 24:25
Speaker 3: a prayer for you over and you and your entire
• 24:27
Speaker 3: staff as you get into what you call the celebration
• 24:29
Speaker 3: season out there with all these pennings and whatnot that
• 24:32
Speaker 3: you got going on. I know you'll do it. You'll
• 24:34
Speaker 3: do it great like you always do. Appreciate you being here.
• 24:36
Speaker 3: We'll talk again next month. Thanks a lot, Thank you.
• 24:38
Speaker 7: I appreciate you. By Dave.
• 24:39
Speaker 3: All Right, doctor Casey Sachs, a Bridge Valley. It is
• 24:42
Speaker 3: twenty one minutes now before ten o'clock. I just I
• 24:46
  Speaker 3: guess I can't and I just can't try to wrap
• 24:49
Speaker 3: my head around that about somebody being able to have
• 24:52
Speaker 3: a degree before they have a high school diploma. But
• 24:55
Speaker 3: that's what they're doing out there Bridge Valley, and it's
• 24:57
Speaker 3: a wonderful way and wonderful change is I think to
• 25:00
Speaker 3: higher education that have happened since you know, the dark Ages,
• 25:04
Speaker 3: when when I was a kid of a boy going
• 25:07
Speaker 3: from high school into college. Good stuff that they are
• 25:12
Speaker 3: doing out there, tex says in regards to the shelter,
• 25:16
Speaker 3: and we were talking about some odds and ends that
• 25:18
Speaker 3: they need at the shelter. Other I mean, I would
• 25:21
Speaker 3: say other than just cash and things like that, because
• 25:23
Speaker 3: they always need those things. But there's other things you
• 25:25
Speaker 3: can donate, Texas in regards to the shelter. Odds and
• 25:28
Speaker 3: in items that people may not think of to donate
• 25:31
Speaker 3: are things like newspaper, plastic, grocery store bags, baking soda
• 25:36
Speaker 3: to mix in with the litter. One big thing and
• 25:39
Speaker 3: textas says, I collect these every time I'm at Walmart.
• 25:42
Speaker 3: Are the empty can cat food boxes like fancy fees.
• 25:47
Speaker 3: They use them for the litter box. Those and small
• 25:51
Speaker 3: alumina pens as well. And thank you and God bless
• 25:55
Speaker 3: the construction worker and the two little girls who saved Webcin's.
• 25:58
Speaker 3: That's a great, great story and I said that story
• 26:01
Speaker 3: could have turned out a whole lot worse. I mean
• 26:04
Speaker 3: when construction worker out on the site picks up a
• 26:08
Speaker 3: pilot and there's nearly forty cats under it and they
• 26:13
Speaker 3: scurry about everywhere. The mamas seem to be okay, but
• 26:16
Speaker 3: the baby's not so much. And now they've all been fostered.
• 26:19
Speaker 3: And that just goes to show the amazing work I
• 26:23
Speaker 3: think that they do up at the shelter and all
• 26:25
Speaker 3: the volunteers and the people that foster and whatever. Because
• 26:29
Speaker 3: that happened and within a couple of days, those kittens,
• 26:33
Speaker 3: the mamas, whatever, they're in a home somewhere. They've been
• 26:36
Speaker 3: fostered out. They're not in permanent homes though, So and again,
• 26:40
Speaker 3: Webkin is our adopt me please pet of the Week.
• 26:42
Speaker 3: Now that we know what Webcin is. Thank you, Ryan Nicholson.

• 31:25
Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. Mini. Let's start with you
• 31:27
Speaker 3: before we get into your literary works. Let's talk about
• 31:30
  Speaker 3: you personally.
• 31:31
  Speaker 16: Okay, I'm a mom, I'm a nurse, and.
• 31:36
Speaker 3: The microphone down just a little bit. There you go
• 31:38
  Speaker 3: in there you.
• 31:39
Speaker 16: I'm writing my book for my children and the lifestyle
• 31:43
Speaker 16: changes that my patients have needed to go through, and
• 31:46
Speaker 16: just wanting to leave a legacy for my children. So
• 31:49
Speaker 16: just took all the experience from being a mom and
• 31:51
Speaker 16: now being a nurse.
• 31:53
Speaker 3: Now, as far as writing goes as something you've done
• 31:56
Speaker 3: your entire life, it's something that you got into a
• 31:58
Speaker 3: little bit later. What was your story about? I would
• 32:00
Speaker 3: like to ask authors that, No, that's a great question.
• 32:03
Speaker 16: I always wrote my entire life. I never thought that
• 32:07
Speaker 16: I could publish. I just have mounds and mounds of writing.
• 32:11
Speaker 16: But this particular project was really dear to my heart.
• 32:14
Speaker 16: I really wanted to leave a legacy for my children,
• 32:16
Speaker 16: something that they could have that they could refer to
• 32:19
Speaker 16: but also know that how loved they are. And I
• 32:22
Speaker 16: just went for it. I put all my effort into
• 32:25
Speaker 16: writing it and then having it published.
• 32:28
Speaker 3: It's called Penny for your thoughts, love letters to my children,
• 32:32
Speaker 3: just talk about the book in general, and just still
• 32:36
Speaker 3: it out there. Well, I mean, tell people about the book.
• 32:38
Speaker 16: Okay, So many years ago, I thought it would be
• 32:40
Speaker 16: really cute to have a book with idiom titles, and
• 32:43
Speaker 16: so I would jot down a bunch of titles for chapters.
• 32:47
Speaker 16: And then as I started writing and the idioms became
• 32:50
Speaker 16: more of a thought process of how to tell that story.
• 32:54
Speaker 16: I started to put together kind of like a lifeline
• 32:57
Speaker 16: of how I lived my life and how I overcame
• 33:00
Speaker 16: challenges and how to get in touch with yourself to
• 33:03
  Speaker 16: overcome those challenges.
• 33:05
Speaker 15: And that came about to be seven.
• 33:06
Speaker 16: Chapters and anywhere from taking care of your teeth all
• 33:11
Speaker 16: the way to how to know if you're in a
• 33:13
Speaker 16: relationship that's manipulating you.
• 33:16
Speaker 3: That's interesting that you wrote down chapter titles basically, or
• 33:21
Speaker 3: idioms as you call them, and then you kind of
• 33:23
Speaker 3: went and filled it and out. That's an interesting way
• 33:26
  Speaker 3: to do things.
• 33:26
  Speaker 16: That's exactly what I did.
• 33:28
  Speaker 15: I don't know.
• 33:29
Speaker 16: I mean maybe a lot of authors don't do it
• 33:31
Speaker 16: that way, but that really helped me. It works for you,
• 33:33
Speaker 16: It works for you the focus and the task at hand.
• 33:36
Speaker 3: We want people to take away from your book comfort.
• 33:41
Speaker 16: Hope, and knowing that no matter what choices that you've
• 33:44
Speaker 16: made in your life up to this point, there's always
• 33:47
Speaker 16: time for a doover.
• 33:49
Speaker 3: Get back to you in just a little bit. Justin
• 33:50
Speaker 3: Hart Crairi is also here. He's the author of our
• 33:53
Speaker 3: Our Changel. Uh that's yeah, our changel tell us about
• 33:57
Speaker 3: you personally. I want to want to hear about it
• 33:59
Speaker 3: about you. Go ahead, yeah, yeah, thank you.
• 34:02
Speaker 17: So yeah, I'm a teacher, uh middle school, eighth grade
• 34:05
Speaker 17: English teacher and have just where do you teach? A
• 34:08
Speaker 17: Windfield middle Winfield? Okay, all right, hopefully some students are
• 34:11
Speaker 17: listening even though school time.
• 34:13
  Speaker 3: Well, I mean that's like a learning experience, right, I
• 34:16
Speaker 3: mean you can give a little time.
• 34:17
Speaker 17: Oh absolutely starting. Uh yeah, this is my thirteenth year teaching.
• 34:21
  Speaker 6: Now.
• 34:22
Speaker 17: I love it, you know, I love the kids. I'm
• 34:24
Speaker 17: very blessed to work where I do, and uh always
• 34:27
Speaker 17: loved English, you know, so once I got out of college,
• 34:30
Speaker 17: I thought, why not combine the thing I love most
• 34:32
Speaker 17: with teaching, and uh, just became a writing career after
• 34:36
Speaker 17: that and started the book when I was younger and
• 34:39
Speaker 17: finished it about, you know, three years ago and wanted
• 34:41
  Speaker 17: to publish.
• 34:42
Speaker 3: What's what is your writing style? Because every author is different.
• 34:46
Speaker 3: Some people some people write chapter names and then write
• 34:49
Speaker 3: books after that. But what what is your style?
• 34:52
  Speaker 14: Are you?
• 34:53
Speaker 3: Because I've talked to authors I've had plenty on the
• 34:54
Speaker 3: show before that will go around with a legal path
• 34:58
Speaker 3: and just write things down or put them on their
• 34:59
Speaker 3: phone or whatever. And I have a people that say, no,
• 35:01
Speaker 3: I'm going to write Tuesday night between six and eight.
• 35:04
Speaker 3: Everybody's different, everybody has and sometimes it's a mix of
• 35:06
Speaker 3: the stocks. What is your particular writing style?
• 35:08
  Speaker 17: Procrastination?
• 35:09
Speaker 3: Okay, good, Yeah, I procrastinate.
• 35:12
Speaker 17: The thing, but now, I mean I usually try and form,
• 35:16
Speaker 17: you know, a little bit of an outline and then
• 35:19
Speaker 17: you know, I just kind of let the words take me,
• 35:22
Speaker 17: you know, where they're going to, and you pray about it,
• 35:24
Speaker 17: and the Lord just seems to lead me to write
• 35:27
Speaker 17: the book. It's usually their action oriented, you know, in
• 35:31
Speaker 17: some way, because Christian literature just seems to be missing
• 35:34
Speaker 17: a lot of the the genres that are that are
• 35:38
Speaker 17: popular now, you know, with adventure and action and fantasy
• 35:41
Speaker 17: and science fiction. And while there are some out there,
• 35:44
  Speaker 17: I think they you know, I don't know. I like
• 35:47
Speaker 17: to think that I'm doing something different with the book.
• 35:50
Speaker 3: Talk about the genre of Christian literature, Yeah, it's Christian.
• 35:53
Speaker 17: My book Archangel is Christian supernatural fiction, and it's basically
• 35:59
Speaker 17: about a kid who has these powers, you know, and
• 36:02
Speaker 17: doesn't know what to do with them. He misuses them,
• 36:04
Speaker 17: you know, all the time. He's a juvenile delinquent and
• 36:07
  Speaker 17: he meets.
• 36:08
Speaker 3: And then he goes into radium.
• 36:09
Speaker 17: Oh Yeahrry meets this angel and he doesn't know he's
• 36:16
Speaker 17: an angel at the time and just you know, jumps
• 36:18
Speaker 17: in full on into a training like, you know, session
• 36:23
Speaker 17: with him for you know, months on end, going to
• 36:25
Speaker 17: high school, never been there before, and you know, it's
• 36:27
Speaker 17: a whole story about, uh, kind of what Manya was saying.
• 36:30
Speaker 17: You know, no matter how far down you've gone, you know,
• 36:33
Speaker 17: there's always a way back. It's redemption, repentance.
• 36:37
Speaker 3: There's a theme to both of your books, and even
• 36:40
Speaker 3: though they're very different as far as the makeup of
• 36:44
Speaker 3: the book, there's a lot of similarities between you talked
• 36:47
Speaker 3: about about redemption and there's always a way up Mania.
• 36:50
Speaker 3: Why don't you follow up on that with Penny for
• 36:53
  Speaker 3: your thoughts?
• 36:53
Speaker 16: Yeah, yeah, Well, also when I met just I read
• 36:57
Speaker 16: Justin's book. It's absolutely fabulous and filled with so much adventure,
• 37:02
Speaker 16: and the character is really does struggle, but he is
• 37:05
Speaker 16: coming out the other side. And I noticed that when
• 37:10
Speaker 16: my children were small, that a lot of the moms
• 37:12
Speaker 16: that I was friends with were really struggling with choices
• 37:15
Speaker 16: that they had made in their life up until that point,
• 37:17
Speaker 16: and they were in their twenties early thirties, and I
• 37:20
Speaker 16: was trying to figure out a way to bring hope
• 37:22
Speaker 16: in my book so that readers could see that it
• 37:26
Speaker 16: doesn't matter what you've chosen early on in life, because
• 37:29
Speaker 16: a lot of times we made big decisions early on
• 37:32
Speaker 16: in life. Those decisions can sometimes affect us all the
• 37:35
Speaker 16: way until our last day. And I wanted to show
• 37:39
Speaker 16: that with a little bit of time and process, that
• 37:41
Speaker 16: you can kind of go back, look at why you
• 37:45
Speaker 16: made those choices, and then move forward making different choices.
• 37:48
Speaker 16: And it's also a coaching business that I have that
• 37:51
Speaker 16: I have clients and I do some presentations. And that's
• 37:54
Speaker 16: what we go through is first we talk about limiting thoughts,
• 37:58
Speaker 16: where do they stem from, how can we overcome them?
• 38:01
  Speaker 15: And then let's.
• 38:02
Speaker 16: Start with empowering thoughts and then start making some of
• 38:05
Speaker 16: our goals and dreams come true. And that's kind of
• 38:07
Speaker 16: what Penny for Your Thoughts does. I've had my children,
• 38:11
Speaker 16: my adult children's friends read it and they've come to
• 38:14
Speaker 16: me and said, I never knew that I could be
• 38:18
Speaker 16: so free. I just kept following this path that I
• 38:21
Speaker 16: thought I was supposed to be on. And I have
• 38:23
Speaker 16: family members who are well into their seniors and they
• 38:27
Speaker 16: have said they're finally able to find forgiveness, a way
• 38:29
Speaker 16: to have forgiveness in their life. So I think we
• 38:33
Speaker 16: both have that same thought process as we're writing in
• 38:36
Speaker 16: a wish for our books.
• 38:38
Speaker 17: Yeah, and there's someone who's read Manya's book too, And
• 38:42
Speaker 17: you know, it's been years now, but I lost my
• 38:45
Speaker 17: mom when I was younger, and it was kind of like,
• 38:48
Speaker 17: you know, I could displace the author and put my
• 38:50
Speaker 17: mom saying these words to me. And that's kind of
• 38:54
Speaker 17: you know, when I was writing Archangel, part of it
• 38:56
Speaker 17: was very uh, you know, intuitive, the idea that you
• 39:01
Speaker 17: know Cale has lost his mom to the main character,
• 39:04
Speaker 17: and you know, what do you do when you've lost
• 39:06
Speaker 17: your superhero? Yeah, and that's what superhero fiction is really
• 39:10
Speaker 17: big right now. And so for me, you know, I
• 39:15
Speaker 17: had to grow up. I love superheroes growing up, you know,
• 39:17
Speaker 17: I was a big nerd. And the idea when you
• 39:21
Speaker 17: when you lose the things that you're close to and
• 39:24
Speaker 17: the things that you idolize, whether you know it's real
• 39:26
Speaker 17: like my mom, or it's fake, you know, like Superman.
• 39:31
Speaker 17: Part of my Christian walk was realizing that, you know,
• 39:33
Speaker 17: I serve the greatest superhero already in Jesus. So I
• 39:37
Speaker 17: mean I wanted to write that and really honor, you know,
• 39:39
Speaker 17: my faith and him in making this book a reality.
• 39:44
Speaker 3: But Dave Allan show and find Vidieline brought to you
• 39:46
Speaker 3: apart by your hometown Baseball in Chief, the Charleston Dirty Birds.
• 39:49
Speaker 3: Opening night for the Birds as they traveled to Lexington
• 39:51
Speaker 3: for a weekend series against the Legends. Home opening for
• 39:54
Speaker 3: the Birds next Friday night against Southern Maryland. Also, don't
• 39:56
Speaker 3: forget tomorrow is Mountaineer Little League and Softball Day. Over
• 39:59
Speaker 3: go our Ballpark. Game started nine in the morning. For
• 40:02
Speaker 3: more visit dirty Birds baseball dot com or the Facebook
• 40:05
Speaker 3: pages of the Dirty Birds and Mountaineer Little League. Let's
• 40:08
Speaker 3: talk about the season we're in right now. We're gearing
• 40:11
Speaker 3: gearing it for Mother's Day, the Mother's Day, and I
• 40:14
Speaker 3: think the works of of both you folks are very
• 40:17
Speaker 3: timely for Mother's Day. I want to start with the
• 40:21
Speaker 3: with you. You talked about losing, about losing your mom,
• 40:25
Speaker 3: and anytime you lose a parent, it is it's it's rough,
• 40:30
Speaker 3: but there's a way forward through that.
• 40:33
Speaker 17: Yeah, I actually lost mom on Mother's Day, so you know,
• 40:36
Speaker 17: it's always a time of reflection and honoring her. And
• 40:41
Speaker 17: I think both books speak to the idea that you know,
• 40:44
Speaker 17: your mom in some small way is always with you.
• 40:48
Speaker 17: And so I think both books, whether they speak to
• 40:51
Speaker 17: the adult side of things or the kids you know
• 40:54
Speaker 17: who like my book does you know trying to you know,
• 40:58
Speaker 17: show like how important family is.
• 41:01
Speaker 16: Then absolutely I feel that I wish I had had
• 41:07
Speaker 16: a book like Justin's when I was growing up, not
• 41:10
Speaker 16: only for the adventure, but also for some guidance on
• 41:13
Speaker 16: how to make better choices. And Justin and I just thought,
• 41:17
Speaker 16: what a better opportunity to bring out the whole family
• 41:20
Speaker 16: than to have them come and if you want to
• 41:22
Speaker 16: buy it for your mom, if you want to buy
• 41:24
Speaker 16: it for your dad, or you just have other family members.
• 41:26
Speaker 16: And then also bring the kids and the teenagers and
• 41:28
Speaker 16: the young adults to purchase Justin's book and just make
• 41:31
Speaker 16: it a whole family affair. And we have an opportunity
• 41:34
  Speaker 16: to speak tomorrow.
• 41:35
Speaker 3: Also, this is at the South Charleston Library. What time
• 41:37
  Speaker 3: does it start?
• 41:38
  Speaker 17: Noon?
• 41:39
Speaker 3: Noon? Noon, okay, okay, and just.
• 41:41
Speaker 16: Kind of give a presentation about what we stand for
• 41:43
Speaker 16: with our writing and what our hopes are moving forward.
• 41:47
Speaker 3: Justin, I want to ask you because you are a
• 41:49
Speaker 3: middle school teacher by trade, as you said, and we
• 41:52
Speaker 3: hear so much about you know, real or imagine, we
• 41:55
Speaker 3: hear so much about kids today just not reading. I contend,
• 42:01
  Speaker 3: and I don't I don't have kids, but I contend
• 42:03
Speaker 3: that many of them are reading. They're just not reading
• 42:05
Speaker 3: in the same way that those of us that grew
• 42:07
Speaker 3: up maybe in a time in the past did. What
• 42:11
Speaker 3: do you how do you impart upon your students the
• 42:14
  Speaker 3: importance of reading?
• 42:16
Speaker 17: Really, I bring it to life by making a full
• 42:19
Speaker 17: of myself in the classroom.
• 42:20
Speaker 3: It takes buddy, yeah, yeah, And I mean, that's which
• 42:24
Speaker 3: some of the things you do to make a fool
• 42:25
  Speaker 3: of yourself.
• 42:26
Speaker 17: Voices, put voices. All the characters, you know, kind of
• 42:28
Speaker 17: move around the room doing you know, little jobs and
• 42:31
Speaker 17: jigs and dances and whatnot. And they always seem to
• 42:36
Speaker 17: they really love Poe at Ground Poe and uh, they
• 42:39
Speaker 17: always seem to get into the story if I bring
• 42:41
Speaker 17: it to life to them. And I think that's what
• 42:43
Speaker 17: they need because we live in a very visual visual
• 42:45
Speaker 17: stimulation huge and uh chunking, you know, making it smaller
• 42:48
Speaker 17: because as we know, media is getting tighter and tighter
• 42:51
Speaker 17: and tighter and smaller and smaller and smaller, and so
• 42:53
Speaker 17: the attention spans of lessoned. But if you can bring
• 42:56
Speaker 17: it to life for that moment and activate that spark,
• 42:59
Speaker 17: then I think they, you know, really are just like
• 43:03
Speaker 17: we all are captivated by the story. You have the
• 43:05
Speaker 17: imagination of it, and they that's where you just have
• 43:08
  Speaker 17: to hook them.

• 50:39
Speaker 3: you ever read a book, TJ. I know ya know
• 50:41
  Speaker 3: you're you're a ferocious reader.
• 50:43
  Speaker 7: I know that.
• 50:43
Speaker 20: Honestly, if it's a nonfiction book, I would rather read
• 50:48
Speaker 20: a textbook on economics than.
• 50:51
Speaker 3: Read a fiction story. And you live on the wild side,
• 50:53
Speaker 3: don't you. I'm just saying I don't refigure out of control?
• 50:55
  Speaker 3: Do I don't read fiction at all? I don't either,
• 50:58
Speaker 3: and I hate it with all but I have all
• 51:00
Speaker 3: the respect in the world for authors don't read fiction.
• 51:03
Speaker 3: I'm more of a no. I mean, you give me
• 51:04
Speaker 3: a biography of a sports person or a musician or
• 51:08
Speaker 3: a politician, I'll probably read it in one or two nights.
• 51:13
Speaker 3: But that's just my thing. I'm always interested, though, in
• 51:15
Speaker 3: the writing style of people. Now you are writing commentaries.
• 51:19
Speaker 3: You and mister Wilson are writing commentaries on a regular basis.
• 51:24
Speaker 3: So do you mean just ask you before we get
• 51:26
Speaker 3: to your commentary. Do you you sit down and write
• 51:28
Speaker 3: all at one time? It's a little bit different between
• 51:30
Speaker 3: writing a commentary, though, and writing a book. I think
• 51:32
Speaker 3: you would agree with that. Do you take notes along
• 51:34
  Speaker 3: the way?
• 51:37
Speaker 19: How do you do it?
• 51:37
  Speaker 5: Im?
• 51:37
Speaker 20: I show prepping what we talk about on the show
• 51:39
Speaker 20: informs what I write what I read. I read about
• 51:42
Speaker 20: nine newspapers a day informs what I write, but I
• 51:46
Speaker 20: usually sit down and knock it out in one punch,
• 51:49
Speaker 20: let it breathe, and then I would say fifty percent
• 51:52
Speaker 20: of what I had written gets thrown right out.
• 51:56
Speaker 3: So what's the latest subject of a commentary?
• 51:59
Speaker 20: So today we're talking about the fact that Dick Durbin,
• 52:03
Speaker 20: longtime senator the state of Illinois, announced his retirement. He's
• 52:08
Speaker 20: eighty years old, so he will retire, will not seek reelection.
• 52:12
Speaker 20: He'll leave the Senate in January of twenty twenty seven,
• 52:15
Speaker 20: and I think more people should follow his lead.
• 52:19
  Speaker 3: I think it's good.
• 52:20
Speaker 20: So it raises the question should we have age caps
• 52:25
Speaker 20: for federal office holders. The Framers, in their wisdom, said
• 52:29
Speaker 20: that you need to be twenty five to set in
• 52:31
Speaker 20: the House, thirty to set in the Senate, you need
• 52:34
Speaker 20: to be thirty five to hold the presidency. Back in
• 52:37
Speaker 20: those days, the body gave out much before the mind did.
• 52:41
Speaker 20: A life expectancy was thirty five to forty five years
• 52:45
Speaker 20: of age. Now, granted, many of the Framers lived much longer,
• 52:49
Speaker 20: but they were not active in leadership in politics that
• 52:52
Speaker 20: old into the labs Washington was fifty seven would become president.
• 52:56
  Speaker 3: So that's what we're talking about. No, I know, I'm
• 52:59
Speaker 3: not trying to show on people. Why do you hate
• 53:01
Speaker 3: old people? I'm kidding.
• 53:04
Speaker 7: I know you are.
• 53:05
Speaker 3: I'm kidding. I knew someone was gonna say it. Well
• 53:07
  Speaker 3: I did, I did.
• 53:08
  Speaker 2: Here's what I do.
• 53:09
Speaker 3: All right, we'll be listening, man, Thanks a lot. Yeah,
• 53:11
Speaker 3: all right, then have a happy, happy weekend. Thanking to you.
• 53:14
Speaker 3: Coming up on the show on Monday, Steven and I
