We just learned አጎቴ and አክስቴ. Now we can build on that. So, 'cousin' in Amharic is literally 'child of uncle' or 'child of aunt'. Luna: Oh, that makes sense. So like የአጎቴ ልጅ? Lucas: Exactly! የአጎቴ ልጅ — uncle's child. Let's say it together: የአጎቴ ልጅ. Luna: የአጎቴ ልጅ. Lucas: Good. And for aunt's child: የአክስቴ ልጅ. Luna: የአክስቴ ልጅ. That's a mouthful but I'll get it. Lucas: You will. Now, if you want to say 'He is my cousin', you say: የአጎቴ ልጅ ነው. Luna: የአጎቴ ልጅ ነው. So that's 'he is my uncle's child'? Lucas: Right. And for a female cousin from aunt: የአክስቴ ልጅ ናት. Luna: የአክስቴ ልጅ ናት. Okay, I think I've got it. Let me try a sentence. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: My cousin is coming. የአጎቴ ልጅ ይመጣል. Lucas: Perfect! You used the verb we learned before. You're doing great. Luna: Thanks! So, can I also just say አጎቴ ልጅ without the የ? Lucas: Good question. In casual speech, you might hear አጎቴ ልጅ, but the full form with የ is more correct.
