  he

• 6:49
  Sweeney's

• 6:51
  Kevin

• 7:02
  He

• 7:06
  operations
• 7:07
  for
• 7:07
  several
• 7:08
  years.
• 7:08
  And
• 7:09
  he
• 7:09
  actually
• 7:09
  managed
• 7:09
  the
• 7:10
  AA

• 7:13
  But
• 7:14
  he
• 7:14
  really
• 7:14
  wanted
• 7:14
  to
• 7:14
  come
• 7:15
  home.
• 7:15
  He
• 7:15
  had
• 7:15
  been
• 7:15

  Andover
• 7:16
  before
• 7:17
  and,
• 7:18
  you
• 7:18
  know,
• 7:18
  we're
• 7:19
  really
• 7:19
  happy
• 7:20
  to
• 7:20
  have
• 7:20
  him,
• 7:20
  you
• 7:20
  know,
• 7:21
  great
• 7:21
  guy.
• 7:23
  He
• 7:23
  and
• 7:23
  Bob
• 7:23
  Purchase
• 7:24
  are
• 7:25
  cancer
• 7:25
  survivors.
• 7:26
  Really,
• 7:27
  really.
• 7:27
  It's
• 7:27
  a
• 7:27
  good
• 7:28
  class.
• 7:29
  You
• 7:29
  know,
• 7:30
  we
• 7:31
  have
• 7:31
  grown
• 7:32
  every
• 7:32
  year.
• 7:32
  We
• 7:33
  continue
• 7:33
  to
• 7:33
  grow
• 7:34
  and
• 7:34
  we're
• 7:34
  thrilled
• 7:35
  to
• 7:35
  have
• 7:35
  such
• 7:35
  a
• 7:36
  high
• 7:36
  level
• 7:36
  of
• 7:37
  person
• 7:37
  being
• 7:37
  inducted
• 7:38
  this
• 7:38
  year.
• 7:39
  Yeah,
• 7:39
  I
• 7:39
  agree.
• 7:39
  Renny
• 7:40
  sounds
• 7:40
  like
• 7:40
  it'll
• 7:41
  be
• 7:41
  a
• 7:41
  really
• 7:42
  great
• 7:42
  night.
• 7:42
  Now
• 7:43
  just
• 7:44
  give
• 7:44
  the
• 7:45
  folks
• 7:45
  five
• 7:45
  or
• 7:45
  ten
• 7:46
  names
• 7:46
  who's
• 7:46
  already
• 7:47
  in
• 7:47
  the
• 7:47
  Baseball
• 7:48
  hall
• 7:48
  of
• 7:48
  Fame
• 7:48
  of
• 7:48
  New
• 7:49
  York.
• 7:50
  You
• 7:51
  know,
• 7:51
  we
• 7:51
  started
• 7:51
  this
• 7:52
  thing
• 7:52
  because
• 7:52
  of
• 7:52
  Johnny
• 7:52
  Padres,
• 7:53
  who
• 7:54
  actually
• 7:54
  was
• 7:55
  from
• 7:55
  upstate
• 7:55
  New
• 7:55
  York
• 7:56
  and
• 7:56
  became
• 7:56
  a
• 7:56
  good
• 7:56
  friend
• 7:57
  and
• 7:57
  it
• 7:57
  was
• 7:58
  his
• 7:58
  inspiration.
• 7:59
  You
• 8:00
  know,
• 8:00
  some
• 8:00
  of
• 8:00
  these
• 8:01
  people
• 8:01
  are
• 8:02
  never
• 8:02
  going
• 8:02
  to
• 8:02
  get
• 8:02
  into
• 8:03
  Cooperstown.
• 8:03
  So
• 8:04
  we
• 8:04
  thought
• 8:04
  it
• 8:04
  was
• 8:05
  appropriate
• 8:05
  to
• 8:06
  have
• 8:06
  a
• 8:07
  place.
• 8:07
  You
• 8:07
  know,
• 8:08
  Cooperstown
• 8:08
  is
• 8:09
  very
• 8:10
  hard
• 8:11
  to
• 8:11
  get
• 8:11
  into.
• 8:12
  It's
• 8:12
  very,
• 8:13
  you
• 8:13
  know,
• 8:15
  it
• 8:16
  has
• 8:16
  high
• 8:16
  quality
• 8:17
  and
• 8:17
  they
• 8:18
  do
• 8:18
  a
• 8:18
  great
• 8:18
  job.
• 8:18
  It's
• 8:18
  just
• 8:19
  hard
• 8:19
  for
• 8:19
  them
• 8:19
  to
• 8:19
  induct
• 8:20
  a
• 8:20
  lot
• 8:20
  of
• 8:20
  people.
• 8:20
  Given
• 8:21
  a
• 8:21
  national
• 8:22
  stage,
• 8:22
  Ours
• 8:23
  is
• 8:23
  a
• 8:23
  state
• 8:23
  stage,
• 8:24
  so
• 8:24
  it's
• 8:24
  smaller.
• 8:25
  So
• 8:25
  we
• 8:25
  can
• 8:26
  put
• 8:26
  a
• 8:26
  Johnny
• 8:26
  Padres,
• 8:27
  a
• 8:27
  Ralph
• 8:27

• 8:30

• 8:30
  Mercer,
• 8:31
  Thurman
• 8:31
  Munson,
• 8:32
  you
• 8:33
  know,
• 8:33
  Eddie
• 8:33
  Crane,
• 8:33
  Poole,
• 8:34
  Cleon
• 8:34
  Jones,
• 8:35
  Tommy
• 8:35
  Agee,
• 8:36
  Jerry
• 8:37
  Kuzman.
• 8:38
  Lou

• 8:39
  is
• 8:39

• 8:41
  from

  the

• 8:41
  Had

  18
• 8:42
  years
• 8:42
  playing
• 8:42
  with
• 8:42
  Alan
• 8:43
  Trammell.
• 8:45
  There's
• 8:45
  a
• 8:46
  whole
• 8:46
  lot
• 8:46
  of
• 8:46
  people
• 8:47
  that
• 8:47
  had
• 8:48
  phenomenal
• 8:48
  baseball
• 8:49
  careers.
• 8:49
  We
• 8:49
  call
• 8:50
  it
• 8:50
  body
• 8:50
  of
• 8:50
  work.
• 8:51
  It's
• 8:52
  not
• 8:52
  based
• 8:52
  on
• 8:53
  statistics.
• 8:53
  It's
• 8:53
  based
• 8:54
  upon
• 8:55
  your
• 8:56
  contributions
• 8:57
  to
• 8:57
  the

• 8:58
  how
• 8:58
  you
• 8:58
  did
• 8:58
  your
• 8:58
  business,
• 8:59
  how
• 8:59
  you
• 8:59
  did
• 8:59
  your
• 8:59
  job.
• 9:00
  And
• 9:02
  we've
• 9:02
  had
• 9:03
  an
• 9:03
  amazing.
• 9:04
  It's
• 9:05
  amazing
• 9:05
  that
• 9:06
  last
• 9:06
  year
• 9:06
  we
• 9:06
  had
• 9:06
  Chris
• 9:07
  Chambliss,
• 9:07
  Darryl
• 9:07
  Strawberry
• 9:08
  and
• 9:09
  Curtis
• 9:09
  Granderson,
• 9:10
  Tom
• 9:10
  Zeal.
• 9:10
  I
• 9:11
  mean,
• 9:11
  and
• 9:12
  everybody
• 9:12
  attends.
• 9:14
  And,
• 9:14
  you
• 9:14
  know,
• 9:14
  to
• 9:14
  them,
• 9:15
  it
• 9:15
  is
• 9:15
  their
• 9:15
  Cooperstown
• 9:16
  bill.
• 9:16
  It's.
• 9:18
  It's
• 9:19
  really.
• 9:20
  And
• 9:21
  I
• 9:21
  understand
• 9:22
  better
• 9:23
  now
• 9:24
  why
• 9:24
  they
• 9:24
  come,
• 9:25
  why
• 9:25
  they
• 9:25
  came,
• 9:25
  because
• 9:26
  it
• 9:26
  is
• 9:26
  their
• 9:26
  Cooperstown.
• 9:27
  They
• 9:27
  do.
• 9:29
  They're
• 9:29
  reflecting
• 9:30
  upon
• 9:30
  their
• 9:30
  career.
• 9:31
  They
• 9:31
  get
• 9:31
  to
• 9:32
  share
• 9:32
  this
• 9:32
  with
• 9:33
  family
• 9:33
  members
• 9:33
  and
• 9:34
  friends.
• 9:34
  And
• 9:35
  you've
• 9:35
  been
• 9:35
  in
• 9:35
  the
• 9:35
  past,
• 9:36
  so
• 9:36
  you
• 9:36
  have
• 9:36
  an
• 9:36
  idea
• 9:37
  what
• 9:37
  it's
• 9:37
  like.
• 9:38
  Definitely.
• 9:39
  Yeah,
• 9:39
  I
• 9:39
  agree
• 9:39
  with
• 9:39
  you,
• 9:40
  Rennie.
• 9:40
  And
• 9:40
  thank
• 9:40
  you
• 9:40
  for
• 9:41
  mentioning
• 9:42
  some
• 9:42
  of
• 9:42
  the
• 9:42
  criteria
• 9:43
  for
• 9:43
  election.
• 9:44
  People
• 9:44
  may
• 9:44
  be
• 9:44
  wondering
• 9:45
  about
• 9:45
  that.
• 9:46
  And
• 9:46
  some
• 9:46
  of
• 9:46
  the
• 9:47
  great
• 9:47
  names,
• 9:48
  folks,
• 9:49
  tremendous
• 9:50
  local
• 9:51
  talent
• 9:52
  that
• 9:52
  are
• 9:52
  in
• 9:52
  the
• 9:52
  hall
• 9:52
  of
• 9:52
  Fame
• 9:53
  right
• 9:53
  now.
• 9:53
  We
• 9:53
  are
• 9:53
  Speaking
• 9:54
  to
• 9:54
  Rennie
• 9:54
  LaRue,
• 9:55
  the
• 9:55
  executive
• 9:56
  director
• 9:56
  of
• 9:56
  the
• 9:56
  New
• 9:56
  York
• 9:57
  State
• 9:57
  Baseball
• 9:57
  hall
• 9:58
  of
• 9:58
  Fame.
• 9:58
  Tell
• 9:58
  us
• 9:59
  about
• 9:59
  the
• 9:59
  hall
• 9:59
  of
• 9:59
  Fame
• 10:00
  in
• 10:00
  Gloversville,
• 10:01
  Rennie.
• 10:02
  We
• 10:02
  opened
• 10:03
  last
• 10:03
  year,
• 10:04
  last
• 10:04
  July.
• 10:04
  So
• 10:04
  we've
• 10:05
  been
• 10:05
  open
• 10:05
  a
• 10:05
  little
• 10:05
  over
• 10:06
  a
• 10:06
  year
• 10:06
  and
• 10:06
  four
• 10:07
  months.
• 10:08
  It's
• 10:08
  48
• 10:09
  miles
• 10:09
  from
• 10:10
  Cooperstown.
• 10:11
  And
• 10:12
  it's
• 10:12
  really.
• 10:14
  There's
• 10:14
  a
• 10:14
  synergistic
• 10:15
  location
• 10:16
  to
• 10:16
  it
• 10:16
  because
• 10:16
  people
• 10:17
  that
• 10:17
  come
• 10:17
  to
• 10:17
  Cooperstown
• 10:18
  also
• 10:19
  come
• 10:19
  to
• 10:19
  my
• 10:19
  hall
• 10:19
  of
• 10:20
  Fame
• 10:20
  and
• 10:20
  vice
• 10:20
  versa.
• 10:22
  I
• 10:22
  asked
• 10:23
  their
• 10:23
  permission
• 10:24
  to
• 10:24
  have
• 10:24
  that
• 10:24
  building
• 10:24
  there,
• 10:25
  and
• 10:25
  they
• 10:26
  were
• 10:27
  very
• 10:27
  gracious,
• 10:28
  and
• 10:28
  they
• 10:28
  said,
• 10:28
  rennie,
• 10:29
  we
• 10:29
  understand
• 10:29
  what
• 10:29
  you
• 10:30
  do.
• 10:31
  They
• 10:31
  understand
• 10:32
  that
• 10:32
  we
• 10:32
  don't
• 10:32
  conflict
• 10:32
  with
• 10:33
  them.
• 10:33
  We
• 10:34
  try
• 10:34
  and
• 10:34
  augment
• 10:35
  them.
• 10:36
  We're
• 10:36
  the
• 10:37
  little
• 10:37
  brother,
• 10:37
  I
• 10:38
  guess
• 10:38
  you'd
• 10:38
  say.
• 10:39
  And
• 10:40
  we
• 10:40
  restored
• 10:40
  a
• 10:41
  building
• 10:42
  that's
• 10:43
  right
• 10:43
  across
• 10:43
  the
• 10:44
  street
• 10:44
  from
• 10:44
  a
• 10:44
  baseball
• 10:45
  field,
• 10:45
  Parkhurst
• 10:46
  Field.
• 10:46
  A
• 10:47
  field
• 10:47
  where
• 10:47
  Chief
• 10:48
  Bender,
• 10:48
  Honest
• 10:49
  Wagner,
• 10:50
  and
• 10:50
  a
• 10:50
  guy
• 10:50
  named
• 10:51
  Archibald
• 10:51
  Moonlight
• 10:52
  Graham
• 10:52
  actually
• 10:53
  played.
• 10:54
  Yeah.
• 10:55
  So
• 10:56
  the
• 10:56
  building
• 10:56
  looks
• 10:57
  good.
• 10:57
  You
• 10:57
  know,
• 10:58
  it
• 10:59
  took
• 10:59
  us
• 10:59
  probably
• 11:00
  16
• 11:00
  months
• 11:01
  to
• 11:01
  completely
• 11:02
  renovate
• 11:02
  and
• 11:03
  redid
• 11:03
  the
• 11:03
  building.
• 11:04
  Top
• 11:04
  down,
• 11:04
  you
• 11:05
  know,
• 11:05
  floor
• 11:05
  to
• 11:06
  ceilings.
• 11:06
  And
• 11:07
  there's
• 11:07
  great
• 11:08
  displays,
• 11:09
  lockers.
• 11:11
  I
• 11:12
  think
• 11:12
  we
• 11:12
  have
• 11:12
  56
• 11:13
  or
• 11:13
  57
• 11:15
  inductee
• 11:16
  lockers.
• 11:17
  Rico
• 11:18
  Pacicelli,
• 11:18
  Mickey
• 11:19
  Manolo,
• 11:20
  Carl
• 11:21
  Erskine,
• 11:22
  Johnny
• 11:23
  Antonelli.
• 11:26
  Let's
• 11:26
  see,
• 11:26
  Mookie
• 11:27
  Wilson,
• 11:27
  Gil
• 11:28
  Hodges.
• 11:30
  Really
• 11:30
  thrilled
• 11:31
  with
• 11:31
  the
• 11:31
  way
• 11:31
  that
• 11:31
  came
• 11:31
  out.
• 11:32
  And
• 11:33
  then
• 11:33
  we
• 11:33
  have
• 11:34
  displays
• 11:34
  of
• 11:35
  autographed
• 11:35
  balls
• 11:36
  and
• 11:36
  other
• 11:36
  paraphernalia.
• 11:37
  And
• 11:37
  then
• 11:38
  in
• 11:38
  the
• 11:38
  back,
• 11:38
  we
• 11:38
  have
• 11:39
  a
• 11:39
  beautiful
• 11:39
  theater
• 11:40
  where
• 11:40
  we
• 11:41
  had
• 11:41
  50
• 11:41
  seats
• 11:42
  donated
• 11:43
  that
• 11:43
  were
• 11:43
  old
• 11:44
  Yankee
• 11:44
  Stadium
• 11:44
  seats
• 11:45
  donated
• 11:45
  by
• 11:46
  Gary
• 11:46
  Perrone
• 11:47
  from
• 11:48
  the
• 11:48
  Staten
• 11:49
  Island
• 11:49
  Fairy
• 11:49
  Hawks,
• 11:50
  who
• 11:51
  was
• 11:51
  also
• 11:51
  an
• 11:51
  inductee.
• 11:52
  So
• 11:52
  the
• 11:53
  theater
• 11:53
  came
• 11:53
  out
• 11:53
  beautifully.
• 11:54
  We
• 11:54
  played
• 11:55
  baseball
• 11:56
  film
• 11:56
  every
• 11:56
  Saturday
• 11:57
  from
• 11:57
  1
• 11:57
  to
• 11:58
  3.
• 11:58
  Nice.
• 11:59
  Very
• 11:59
  nice.
• 12:00
  And
• 12:00
  people
• 12:00
  may
• 12:01
  be
• 12:01
  wondering,
• 12:01
  Rennie,
• 12:02
  maybe
• 12:02
  some
• 12:02
  folks
• 12:02
  out
• 12:03
  here
• 12:03
  on
• 12:03
  the
• 12:03
  island,
• 12:04
  what
• 12:04
  exit
• 12:04
  off
• 12:05
  the
• 12:05
  Thruway
• 12:05
  is
• 12:05
  that?
• 12:06
  So
• 12:06
  people
• 12:06
  know.
• 12:09
  The
• 12:09
  easiest
• 12:10
  way.
• 12:10
  There's
• 12:10
  two
• 12:10
  ways
• 12:11
  to
• 12:11
  go.
• 12:11
  One
• 12:12
  is
• 12:13
  off
• 12:14
  Amsterdam,
• 12:14
  off
• 12:15
  the
• 12:15
  thruway.
• 12:16
  It's
• 12:16
  about
• 12:17
  15
• 12:17
  minutes
• 12:18
  away.
• 12:18
  The
• 12:18
  other
• 12:19
  way
• 12:19
  is
• 12:19
  to
• 12:19
  drive
• 12:20
  to
• 12:20
  Saratoga
• 12:21
  on
• 12:21
  the
• 12:21
  north
• 12:22
  way
• 12:22
  off
• 12:23
  the
• 12:23
  thruway.
• 12:23
  And
• 12:24
  From
• 12:24
  Saratoga,
• 12:25
  it's
• 12:25
  29
• 12:25
  minutes
• 12:26
  away.
• 12:27
  We're
• 12:27
  only
• 12:27
  open
• 12:28
  on
• 12:28
  Saturdays
• 12:29
  right
• 12:29
  now
• 12:30
  from
• 12:30
  11
• 12:30
  to
• 12:31
  5.
• 12:32
  Season
• 12:32
  is
• 12:32
  winding
• 12:33
  to
• 12:33
  a
• 12:33
  close.
• 12:33
  We
• 12:34
  close
• 12:34
  for
• 12:34
  the
• 12:34
  winter.
• 12:35
  We'll
• 12:35
  reopen
• 12:36
  again
• 12:36
  in
• 12:36
  spring
• 12:36
  training.
• 12:37
  Gotcha.
• 12:37
  Because
• 12:38
  I
• 12:38
  am
• 12:38
  planning
• 12:38
  to
• 12:38
  come
• 12:39
  by
• 12:39
  next
• 12:39
  Saturday.
• 12:41
  Super.
• 12:41
  Yeah,
• 12:42
  I'm
• 12:42
  planning
• 12:43
  on
• 12:43
  visiting,
• 12:43
  and
• 12:44
  I'm
• 12:44
  sure
• 12:44
  I'll
• 12:45
  enjoy
• 12:45
  it.
• 12:45
  Now,
• 12:46
  how
• 12:46
  do
• 12:46
  people
• 12:46
  go
• 12:47
  about
• 12:47
  nominating
• 12:48
  someone
• 12:48
  for
• 12:48
  the
• 12:48
  New
• 12:48
  York
• 12:49
  State
• 12:49
  Baseball
• 12:49
  hall
• 12:50
  of
• 12:50
  Fame?
• 12:50
  Rennie?
• 12:52
  That's
• 12:52
  easy.
• 12:53
  Anyone
• 12:53
  can
• 12:54
  nominate
• 12:54
  somebody
• 12:54
  that
• 12:55
  either
• 12:55
  was
• 12:55
  born
• 12:55
  in
• 12:56
  New
• 12:56
  York
• 12:56
  State,
• 12:57
  played
• 12:57
  in
• 12:57
  New
• 12:58
  York
• 12:58
  State,
• 12:58
  worked
• 12:58
  in
• 12:58
  New
• 12:59
  York
• 12:59
  State,
• 12:59
  lives
• 12:59
  in
• 13:00
  New
• 13:00
  York
• 13:00
  State.
• 13:01
  So
• 13:01
  let's
• 13:01
  say
• 13:01
  you
• 13:01
  grew
• 13:02
  up
• 13:02
  in
• 13:02
  Peoria,
• 13:02
  Illinois.
• 13:03
  If
• 13:03
  you
• 13:04
  moved
• 13:04
  to
• 13:04
  Manhattan
• 13:05
  and
• 13:05
  lived
• 13:05
  there,
• 13:06
  that's
• 13:06
  fine.
• 13:07
  If
• 13:07
  you
• 13:08
  played
• 13:08
  for
• 13:08
  the
• 13:08
  Yankees
• 13:09
  or
• 13:09
  Mets
• 13:09
  or
• 13:10
  Brooklyn
• 13:10
  Dodgers,
• 13:13
  then
• 13:13
  again
• 13:13
  you
• 13:14
  qualify
• 13:15
  minor
• 13:15
  league
• 13:15
  teams.
• 13:16
  Buffalo
• 13:16
  Bisons,

• 13:21
  And
• 13:22
  then
• 13:22
  that
• 13:23
  name
• 13:23
  gets
• 13:23
  placed
• 13:23
  on
• 13:24
  a
• 13:24
  list
• 13:25
  as
• 13:25
  other
• 13:26
  supporting
• 13:26
  nominations
• 13:27
  come
• 13:27
  in.
• 13:28
  Then
• 13:29
  that
• 13:29

• 13:29
  could
• 13:30
  move
• 13:30
  up

• 13:31
  So
• 13:31
  let's
• 13:32
  say
• 13:32
  that
• 13:32
  10
• 13:33

• 13:33
  people
• 13:33
  call
• 13:33
  and
• 13:34
  nominate.
• 13:35
  You
• 13:36
  know,
• 13:37
  let's
• 13:38
  pick
• 13:38
  an
• 13:38

• 13:39

• 13:40

• 13:41

• 13:41

• 13:42
  Right.
• 13:43
  As
• 13:43
  more
• 13:43
  people
• 13:44
  nominate
• 13:44
  that
• 13:44
  person
• 13:45
  that
• 13:46
  are
• 13:46
  unrelated
• 13:46

• 13:47
  that

• 13:48
  that
• 13:48
  person's
• 13:49
  case.
• 13:49
  A
• 13:50

• 13:50
  cannot
• 13:51
  nominate
• 13:51
  a
• 13:51

• 13:52

• 13:52
  or
• 13:52
  a
• 13:52

• 13:54
  Okay,
• 13:55
  so
• 13:56
  some.
• 13:56
  Pretty
• 13:57
  easy,
• 13:58
  not
• 13:58
  as
• 13:58

  someone
• 14:03
  just
• 14:04
  sent
• 14:04
  in
• 14:04
  a
• 14:05
  question.
• 14:05
  Rennie,
• 14:06
  how
• 14:06
  do
• 14:06
  you
• 14:06
  get
• 14:06
  your
• 14:06
  artifacts
• 14:07
  for
• 14:07
  the
• 14:07
  museum?
• 14:09
  Amazingly,
• 14:10
  they're
• 14:10
  all
• 14:11
  donated
• 14:12
  by
• 14:13
  players
• 14:13
  or
• 14:14
  people
• 14:14
  that
• 14:14
  had
• 14:15
  their
• 14:15
  grandfather,
• 14:16
  went
• 14:16
  to
• 14:16
  Yankee
• 14:17

• 14:17
  in
• 14:17

• 14:19
  man
• 14:20
  or
• 14:20

• 14:21
  So
• 14:22
  we
• 14:22
  have
• 14:22
  a
• 14:22
  couple
• 14:22
  of
• 14:23
  benefactors
• 14:24
  that
• 14:24
  have
• 14:24
  donated
• 14:25
  many
• 14:25
  items.
• 14:27
  Framed
• 14:27
  pictures,
• 14:29
  a
• 14:29
  great
• 14:29
  one
• 14:29
  of
• 14:30
  Vin
• 14:30
  Scully
• 14:30
  calling
• 14:31
  his
• 14:31
  last
• 14:31
  game
• 14:32
  in
• 14:32
  la.
• 14:33
  We
• 14:33
  have
• 14:34
  a
• 14:34
  gentleman
• 14:34
  who
• 14:35
  is
• 14:35
  getting
• 14:35
  older
• 14:36
  and
• 14:36
  had
• 14:36
  a
• 14:36
  huge
• 14:37
  personal
• 14:37
  collection,
• 14:38
  and
• 14:39
  he
• 14:39
  knew
• 14:39
  this
• 14:39
  was
• 14:39
  a
• 14:40
  great
• 14:40
  home
• 14:40
  for
• 14:40
  it.
• 14:40
  So
• 14:41
  we're
• 14:41
  thrilled
• 14:42
  about
• 14:42
  that
• 14:42
  and
• 14:43
  a
• 14:43
  lot
• 14:44
  of
• 14:44
  balls
• 14:44
  and
• 14:44
  bats
• 14:45
  and
• 14:45
  gloves
• 14:46
  and
• 14:47
  accompanying
• 14:47
  things.
• 14:48
  So
• 14:48
  we're
• 14:48
  very
• 14:48
  fortunate
• 14:49
  to
• 14:49
  have
• 14:50
  a
• 14:50
  nice
• 14:50
  home
• 14:50
  where
• 14:51
  these
• 14:51
  things
• 14:51
  will
• 14:52
  be
• 14:52
  displayed
• 14:53
  and
• 14:53
  safe
• 14:54
  and
• 14:55
  secure.
• 14:56
  Good
• 14:56
  stuff.
• 14:56
  Good
• 14:57
  stuff,
• 14:57
  Rennie.
• 14:57
  Yeah.
• 14:58
  And
• 14:58
  as
• 14:58
  Rennie
• 14:58
  mentioned,
• 14:59
  it's
• 14:59
  48
• 15:00
  miles
• 15:00
  from
• 15:00
  Cooperstown,
• 15:01
  so
• 15:02
  you
• 15:02
  could
• 15:02
  easily
• 15:03
  fit
• 15:03
  in
• 15:03
  a
• 15:03
  trip
• 15:03
  to

• 15:06

• 15:06
  next
• 15:06

• 15:07

  from

• 15:09

• 15:11
  next

• 15:12
  the
• 15:12

• 15:13

• 15:13

• 15:14
  what
• 15:14
  else
• 15:15
  is
• 15:15
  coming
• 15:15
  up
• 15:15
  for
• 15:15
  the

• 15:17
  Rennie
• 15:19
  well,
• 15:19
  we
• 15:20
  have
• 15:20
  one
• 15:21
  event
• 15:21
  a
• 15:21
  month,
• 15:22
  and
• 15:23
  in
• 15:23
  August
• 15:24
  of
• 15:24
  this
• 15:24
  year,
• 15:24
  we
• 15:25
  inducted
• 15:26
  three
• 15:26
  players
• 15:27
  that
• 15:27
  are
• 15:28
  part
• 15:28
  of
• 15:28
  this
• 15:28
  year's
• 15:29

• 15:29
  but
• 15:29
  a
• 15:29

• 15:30
  ceremony.
• 15:31
  And
• 15:32
  one
• 15:32
  of
• 15:32
  them
• 15:32
  was
• 15:33
  Ed
• 15:33
  the
• 15:33
  Glider
• 15:34
  Charles,
• 15:35
  who
• 15:35
  played
• 15:36
  third
• 15:36
  base
• 15:36
  in
• 15:36
  the
• 15:37

• 15:37
  Mets.
• 15:37
  And
• 15:38
  Ed's
• 15:38
  family
• 15:39
  came.
• 15:39
  Ed
• 15:40
  Jr.
• 15:40
  Came.
• 15:40
  It
• 15:41
  was
• 15:41
  wonderful.
• 15:42
  We
• 15:42
  did
• 15:42
  a
• 15:42
  turn
• 15:42
  of
• 15:43
  the
• 15:43
  century
• 15:43
  player,
• 15:44
  George
• 15:44
  Burns,
• 15:45
  who
• 15:46
  stole
• 15:46
  home
• 15:46
  28
• 15:47
  times,
• 15:48
  playing
• 15:48
  his
• 15:48
  career
• 15:49
  largely
• 15:49
  with
• 15:49
  the
• 15:49
  New
• 15:49
  York
• 15:50
  giants
• 15:51
  managed
• 15:51
  by
• 15:52
  McGraw.
• 15:54
  And
• 15:54
  then
• 15:54
  the
• 15:55
  third
• 15:55
  player
• 15:55
  was
• 15:56
  a
• 15:57
  pioneer
• 15:58
  of
• 15:58
  the
• 15:58

• 16:00
  who
• 16:00
  was
• 16:01

• 16:02

• 16:03
  guy
• 16:03
  who
• 16:03
  played

• 16:04

• 16:06
  I
• 16:06
  can't
• 16:06
  think
• 16:07
  of
• 16:07
  his
• 16:07
  name
• 16:07
  right
• 16:07
  now,
• 16:08
  but
• 16:08
  it'll
• 16:09
  come
• 16:09
  to
• 16:09
  me.
• 16:09
  Oh,
• 16:10
  it
• 16:10
  was
• 16:11
  interesting
• 16:12
  about
• 16:12
  that
• 16:12
  story.
• 16:13
  12
• 16:13
  Years
• 16:13
  a
• 16:14
  Slave
• 16:14
  was
• 16:14
  a

• 16:15
  about
• 16:16
  a
• 16:16
  gentleman
• 16:16
  who
• 16:17
  got
• 16:17
  kidnapped
• 16:17
  into
• 16:18
  slavery
• 16:19
  and
• 16:19
  then
• 16:19
  he
• 16:19
  escaped
• 16:20
  and
• 16:20
  came
• 16:20
  back.
• 16:21
  He
• 16:21
  actually
• 16:21
  had
• 16:21
  lived
• 16:21
  in
• 16:22
  Saratoga
• 16:22
  Springs
• 16:23
  and
• 16:24
  it's
• 16:24
  his
• 16:24
  grandson
• 16:25
  that
• 16:25
  got
• 16:25
  inducted.
• 16:26
  Nice.
• 16:28
  Great
• 16:28
  story.
• 16:28
  Great
• 16:29
  story,
• 16:29
  Rennie.
• 16:30
  Now,
• 16:30
  why
• 16:30
  did
• 16:30
  you
• 16:31
  choose
• 16:31
  Gloverville
• 16:31
  as
• 16:32
  a
• 16:32
  site
• 16:32
  for
• 16:32
  the
• 16:32
  national,
• 16:33
  the
• 16:33
  New
• 16:33
  York
• 16:34
  State
• 16:34
  Baseball
• 16:34
  hall
• 16:35
  of
• 16:35
  Fame?
• 16:37
  Two
• 16:37
  reasons.
• 16:38
  One,
• 16:38
  the
• 16:38
  baseball
• 16:39
  field
• 16:39
  across
• 16:39
  the
• 16:39
  street,
• 16:40
  right
• 16:41
  where
• 16:42
  moonlight
• 16:43
  grand
• 16:43
  played
• 16:44
  on.
• 16:44
  The
• 16:44
  second
• 16:45
  thing
• 16:45
  was
• 16:46
  we
• 16:46
  were
• 16:47
  actually
• 16:48
  invited
• 16:48
  to
• 16:49
  come
• 16:49
  there
• 16:50
  by
• 16:50
  Fulton
• 16:50
  county,
• 16:52
  who
• 16:52
  was
• 16:52
  really
• 16:52
  our
• 16:53
  partner
• 16:53
  in
• 16:53
  this
• 16:53
  endeavor
• 16:54
  and
• 16:55
  can't
• 16:56
  say
• 16:56
  enough
• 16:56
  about
• 16:58
  the
• 16:58
  government
• 16:58
  of
• 16:59
  Fulton
• 16:59
  county,
• 16:59
  the
• 17:00
  elected
• 17:00
  officials,
• 17:01
  and
• 17:02
  they
• 17:02
  really
• 17:04
  wanted
• 17:04
  this
• 17:05
  to
• 17:05
  happen
• 17:05
  there.
• 17:06
  And
• 17:06
  they,
• 17:07
  they
• 17:07
  have
• 17:08
  done
• 17:08
  a
• 17:08
  lot
• 17:08
  for
• 17:08
  us
• 17:09
  in
• 17:09
  order
• 17:10
  for
• 17:10
  us
• 17:10
  to
• 17:10
  open.
• 17:11
  We're
• 17:11
  really
• 17:11
  thrilled.
• 17:12
  It's
• 17:12
  really
• 17:13
  the
• 17:13
  best
• 17:14
  idea,
• 17:15
  the
• 17:15
  best
• 17:15
  visible
• 17:16
  sign
• 17:16
  of
• 17:16
  government
• 17:17
  cooperation
• 17:18
  with
• 17:18
  people.
• 17:19
  And
• 17:19
  this
• 17:19
  is
• 17:19
  local
• 17:20
  town
• 17:20
  supervisors
• 17:21
  and
• 17:21
  mayors
• 17:21
  and
• 17:21
  things
• 17:22
  like
• 17:22
  that.
• 17:22
  But
• 17:23
  they
• 17:23
  really,
• 17:25
  they
• 17:25
  really
• 17:26
  made
• 17:26
  an
• 17:26
  effort
• 17:26
  to
• 17:27
  have
• 17:27
  this
• 17:27
  building
• 17:27
  there,
• 17:28
  and
• 17:29
  we
• 17:29
  could
• 17:29
  have
• 17:29
  easily
• 17:30
  been
• 17:30
  in
• 17:30
  Saratoga
• 17:31
  or
• 17:31
  Clifton
• 17:32
  park
• 17:32
  or
• 17:32

• 21:46
  You

  know,
• 21:46
  I
• 21:47
  I
• 21:47

  just,
• 21:48
  I
• 21:48
  was

• 21:49
  I

  you

  you

  I

  couldn't
• 21:55

  I

  my

• 21:58
  hey,
• 21:59
  man,
• 21:59
  I'm

  it's

  pretty

  cool.
• 22:06
  Outstanding.
• 22:07
  Yeah.
• 22:07
  Well,
• 22:08
  before
• 22:08
  we
• 22:08

• 22:10
  that
• 22:11
  great

  documentary,
• 22:12
  I'd
• 22:12
  like
• 22:12
  you
• 22:12
  to
• 22:12
  talk
• 22:13
  a
• 22:13
  little
• 22:13
  bit
• 22:13
  about

• 22:17
  Certainly
• 22:17
  a
• 22:18
  wonderful
• 22:18
  story
• 22:19
  there.
• 22:19
  It's
• 22:20
  an
• 22:20
  important
• 22:20
  story,
• 22:21
  too.
• 22:21
  Give
• 22:22
  us
• 22:22
  a
• 22:22
  little
• 22:22
  rundown
• 22:23
  on
• 22:23
  that.
• 22:23
  TED
• 22:24
  well,
• 22:25
  Crispus
• 22:25
  Attucks
• 22:25
  High
• 22:26
  School
• 22:26
  is
• 22:26
  probably
• 22:27
  most
• 22:27
  famous
• 22:28
  as
• 22:28
  the
• 22:28
  alma
• 22:28

• 22:29
  of
• 22:29
  Oscar
• 22:29

• 22:31
  and
• 22:31
  his
• 22:31

• 22:32
  In
• 22:32
  1955,
• 22:33
  his
• 22:33
  basketball
• 22:34
  team,
• 22:34
  they
• 22:34
  became
• 22:34
  the
• 22:35
  first
• 22:35
  all
• 22:36
  black
• 22:36
  school.
• 22:36
  That's
• 22:36
  what
• 22:37
  this
• 22:37
  is,
• 22:37
  a
• 22:37
  segregated
• 22:37
  school,
• 22:38
  first
• 22:39
  all
• 22:39
  black
• 22:39
  school
• 22:40
  in
• 22:40
  the
• 22:40
  country
• 22:40
  to
• 22:41
  win
• 22:41
  an
• 22:41
  open
• 22:41
  state
• 22:42
  basketball
• 22:42
  championship.
• 22:43
  And
• 22:43
  it
• 22:43
  was
• 22:44
  a
• 22:44
  huge
• 22:44
  deal,
• 22:45
  and
• 22:45
  it
• 22:46
  actually
• 22:46
  really
• 22:46
  helped
• 22:47
  with
• 22:47
  race
• 22:47
  relations
• 22:48
  going
• 22:49
  forward
• 22:49
  in
• 22:49
  the
• 22:49
  city.
• 22:49
  I
• 22:50
  mean,
• 22:50
  the
• 22:50
  school
• 22:51
  itself
• 22:51
  was
• 22:51
  created
• 22:52
  in
• 22:52
  the
• 22:52
  late
• 22:52
  20s
• 22:53
  during
• 22:53
  a
• 22:54
  time
• 22:54
  when
• 22:54
  the
• 22:54
  Ku
• 22:54
  Klux
• 22:55
  Klan
• 22:55
  ran
• 22:55
  the
• 22:56
  state.
• 22:56
  It's
• 22:57
  true.
• 22:57
  The
• 22:58
  second
• 22:58
  iteration
• 22:58
  of
• 22:58
  the
• 22:59
  Klan
• 22:59
  came
• 23:00
  in
• 23:00
  Indiana
• 23:00
  in
• 23:01
  the
• 23:01
  1920s,
• 23:02
  and
• 23:02
  they
• 23:02
  created
• 23:02
  this
• 23:02
  all
• 23:03
  black
• 23:03
  school,
• 23:03
  basically
• 23:04
  to
• 23:05
  get
• 23:05
  the
• 23:05
  black
• 23:05
  kids
• 23:05
  out
• 23:06
  of
• 23:06
  the
• 23:06
  white
• 23:06
  schools.
• 23:07
  And
• 23:07
  it,
• 23:07
  it
• 23:07
  was
• 23:07
  designed
• 23:08
  to
• 23:08
  fail,
• 23:09
  and
• 23:09
  instead
• 23:10
  the
• 23:10
  absolute
• 23:11
  opposite
• 23:12
  happened.
• 23:12
  Not
• 23:12
  only
• 23:13
  did
• 23:13
  it
• 23:13
  succeed
• 23:14
  to
• 23:14
  a
• 23:14
  great
• 23:14
  degree,
• 23:15
  certainly
• 23:15
  way
• 23:16
  more
• 23:16
  than
• 23:16
  sports
• 23:17
  academically,
• 23:18
  first
• 23:19
  and
• 23:19
  foremost,
• 23:20
  but
• 23:21
  again,
• 23:21
  it
• 23:21
  just
• 23:22
  opened
• 23:22
  so
• 23:23
  many
• 23:23
  eyes,
• 23:24
  and
• 23:24
  it
• 23:24
  really
• 23:25
  led,
• 23:26
  ironically,
• 23:27
  to
• 23:27
  the
• 23:28
  integration
• 23:29
  of
• 23:29
  the
• 23:29
  city
• 23:30
  of
• 23:30
  Indianapolis,
• 23:31
  which
• 23:31
  was
• 23:31
  just
• 23:31
  horribly
• 23:32
  polarized
• 23:33
  at
• 23:33
  the
• 23:33
  time.
• 23:33
  So,
• 23:33
  yeah,
• 23:34
  that
• 23:35
  was
• 23:35
  a
• 23:35
  big
• 23:35
  topic
• 23:36
  to
• 23:37
  take
• 23:37
  on,
• 23:38
  but,
• 23:39
  you
• 23:39
  know,
• 23:39
  it
• 23:39
  was
• 23:40
  it
• 23:40
  sort
• 23:41
  of
• 23:41
  strangely
• 23:42
  helped
• 23:42
  me
• 23:42
  find
• 23:43
  my
• 23:43
  way
• 23:43
  to
• 23:43
  Carl
• 23:44
  Erskine.
• 23:44
  So
• 23:44
  I'm
• 23:45
  very
• 23:45
  grateful
• 23:45
  about
• 23:45
  that.
• 23:46
  Understood.
• 23:46
  Yeah,
• 23:47
  great
• 23:47
  story,
• 23:47
  folks.
• 23:48
  You
• 23:48
  could
• 23:49
  look
• 23:49
  that
• 23:49
  up.
• 23:49
  Crispus
• 23:50
  Attucks
• 23:50
  High
• 23:51
  School.
• 23:51
  If
• 23:52
  you
• 23:52
  don't
• 23:52
  know
• 23:52
  who
• 23:52
  Crispus
• 23:53
  Attucks
• 23:53
  is,
• 23:53
  shame
• 23:54
  on
• 23:54
  you.
• 23:54
  And
• 23:54
  you
• 23:55
  probably
• 23:55
  failed
• 23:56
  American
• 23:56
  history
• 23:56
  in
• 23:57
  high
• 23:57
  school.
• 23:57
  Didn't
• 23:57
  you
• 23:58
  tell
• 23:58
  the
• 23:59
  folks
• 23:59
  who
• 23:59
  Crispus
• 23:59
  Attucks
• 24:00
  was?
• 24:00
  TED
• 24:01
  well,
• 24:02
  he
• 24:02
  was
• 24:02
  the
• 24:02
  first
• 24:03
  American
• 24:04
  to
• 24:04
  die
• 24:05
  in
• 24:05
  the
• 24:06
  Revolutionary
• 24:07
  War,
• 24:08
  right.
• 24:08
  He
• 24:08
  was
• 24:09
  an
• 24:09
  escaped
• 24:09
  slave.
• 24:11
  And
• 24:11
  there
• 24:11
  was
• 24:12
  a
• 24:12
  there
• 24:12
  was
• 24:12
  a,
• 24:12
  you
• 24:12
  know,
• 24:12
  sort
• 24:13
  of
• 24:13
  a
• 24:13
  confrontation
• 24:14
  in
• 24:14
  the
• 24:14
  street
• 24:14
  one
• 24:14
  day,
• 24:15
  and
• 24:15
  it
• 24:16
  started
• 24:16
  the
• 24:16
  whole
• 24:17
  thing.
• 24:17
  And
• 24:17
  he
• 24:17
  was
• 24:17
  the
• 24:17
  first
• 24:18
  guy
• 24:18
  to
• 24:18
  die.
• 24:19
  And
• 24:19
  so
• 24:19
  originally,
• 24:20
  Crispusetto's
• 24:21
  high
• 24:21
  school
• 24:21
  was
• 24:21
  going
• 24:22
  to
• 24:22
  be
• 24:22
  named.
• 24:22
  The
• 24:23
  school
• 24:23
  board,
• 24:23
  in
• 24:23
  all
• 24:24
  its
• 24:24
  wonderful
• 24:25
  wisdom
• 24:25
  and
• 24:26
  inclusiveness,
• 24:26
  was
• 24:27
  going
• 24:27
  to
• 24:27
  name
• 24:27
  an
• 24:28
  all
• 24:28
  black
• 24:28
  school
• 24:29
  Thomas
• 24:29
  Jefferson
• 24:30
  High
• 24:30
  School.
• 24:31
  But
• 24:33
  the
• 24:33
  powers
• 24:34
  that
• 24:34
  be
• 24:34
  in
• 24:34
  the
• 24:34
  school
• 24:35
  itself
• 24:35
  said,
• 24:36
  absolutely
• 24:36
  not.
• 24:37
  And
• 24:37
  oddly,
• 24:37
  they
• 24:38
  won
• 24:38
  this
• 24:38
  battle
• 24:39
  and
• 24:39
  they
• 24:39
  got
• 24:39
  to
• 24:39
  pick
• 24:39
  their
• 24:40
  own
• 24:40
  name.
• 24:40
  And
• 24:41
  so
• 24:41
  they
• 24:41
  went
• 24:41
  with
• 24:41
  Krista
• 24:42
  Satter.
• 24:42
  Outstanding.
• 24:43
  Okay,
• 24:43
  well,
• 24:44
  another
• 24:44
  film
• 24:45
  we
• 24:45
  focused
• 24:46
  on
• 24:46
  on
• 24:46
  this
• 24:46
  show
• 24:46
  before,
• 24:47
  and
• 24:47
  we
• 24:47
  actually
• 24:47
  spoke
• 24:48
  about
• 24:48
  it
• 24:48
  with
• 24:48
  Carl
• 24:49
  Erskine
• 24:49
  himself.
• 24:50
  Ted's
• 24:50
  documentary,
• 24:51
  the
• 24:52
  Best
• 24:52
  We've
• 24:52
  Got,
• 24:52
  the
• 24:53
  Carl
• 24:53
  Erskine
• 24:54
  Story.
• 24:54
  Give
• 24:54
  us
• 24:55
  a
• 24:55
  rundown
• 24:55
  from
• 24:55
  an
• 24:56
  inception,
• 24:57
  a
• 24:57
  little
• 24:58
  capsule
• 24:58
  on
• 24:58
  this
• 24:59
  project
• 24:59
  from
• 24:59
  you,
• 25:00
  Ted.
• 25:01
  Okay.
• 25:02
  I
• 25:02
  mean,
• 25:02
  I
• 25:02
  actually,
• 25:03
  it's
• 25:03
  kind
• 25:03
  of
• 25:03
  ironic.
• 25:04
  It
• 25:04
  wasn't
• 25:05
  actually
• 25:05
  the
• 25:06
  baseball
• 25:07
  that
• 25:07
  drew
• 25:08
  me
• 25:08
  to
• 25:08
  Carl
• 25:08
  Erskine.
• 25:09
  I
• 25:09
  mean,
• 25:10
  I've
• 25:10
  long
• 25:10
  wanted
• 25:11
  to
• 25:11
  delve
• 25:11
  into
• 25:11
  the
• 25:12
  world
• 25:12
  of
• 25:12
  intellectual
• 25:13
  disability,
• 25:14
  but
• 25:14
  I
• 25:14
  couldn't
• 25:15
  really
• 25:15
  find
• 25:15
  my
• 25:15
  way
• 25:16
  in.
• 25:16
  I
• 25:16
  thought
• 25:16
  if
• 25:16
  it
• 25:17
  was
• 25:17
  only
• 25:17
  on
• 25:17
  that,
• 25:18
  that
• 25:18
  would
• 25:18
  be,
• 25:18
  you
• 25:19
  know,
• 25:19
  my
• 25:19
  entire
• 25:19
  audience,
• 25:20
  people
• 25:20
  who
• 25:20
  are
• 25:21
  directly
• 25:21
  affected,
• 25:22
  plus,
• 25:22
  you
• 25:22
  know,
• 25:22
  their
• 25:23
  families.
• 25:23
  But
• 25:24
  I
• 25:24
  figured
• 25:24
  with
• 25:24
  Carl,
• 25:25
  by
• 25:26
  starting
• 25:26
  with
• 25:26
  baseball,
• 25:27
  which
• 25:27
  is
• 25:27
  really
• 25:27
  the
• 25:28
  natural
• 25:28
  arc
• 25:28
  chronologically
• 25:29
  in
• 25:30
  his
• 25:30
  life,
• 25:30
  that
• 25:31
  would
• 25:31
  draw
• 25:31
  in
• 25:31
  a
• 25:32
  whole
• 25:32
  new
• 25:32
  audience
• 25:33
  to
• 25:34
  really
• 25:34
  what
• 25:34
  was
• 25:35
  an
• 25:35
  absolutely
• 25:35
  remarkable
• 25:36
  evolution
• 25:37
  of
• 25:37
  the
• 25:37
  treatment
• 25:38
  and
• 25:38
  acceptance
• 25:38
  of
• 25:38
  intellectual
• 25:39
  disability.
• 25:41
  And
• 25:41
  then
• 25:41
  my
• 25:41
  hope
• 25:42
  was
• 25:42
  that
• 25:42
  those
• 25:42
  people,
• 25:43
  that
• 25:43
  new
• 25:43
  audience,
• 25:44
  would
• 25:44
  then
• 25:45
  be
• 25:45
  inspired
• 25:45
  by
• 25:46
  what
• 25:46
  Carl
• 25:46
  and
• 25:47
  his
• 25:47
  wife
• 25:47
  Betty
• 25:47
  did
• 25:48
  with
• 25:48
  their
• 25:48
  son
• 25:49
  Jimmy,
• 25:49
  who
• 25:49
  had
• 25:50
  down
• 25:50
  syndrome,
• 25:50
  and
• 25:50
  literally
• 25:51
  thousands
• 25:52
  of
• 25:52
  others.
• 25:54
  You
• 25:54
  know,
• 25:54
  and
• 25:54
  I
• 25:54
  tell
• 25:54
  you,
• 25:55
  and
• 25:55
  it
• 25:55
  worked
• 25:55
  after
• 25:56
  the
• 25:56
  film,
• 25:56
  I
• 25:56
  heard
• 25:56
  from
• 25:57
  so
• 25:57
  many
• 25:57
  people,
• 25:58
  you
• 25:58
  know,
• 25:58
  how
• 25:59
  amazed,
• 25:59
  in
• 25:59
  some
• 25:59
  cases,
• 26:00
  life
• 26:00
  changingly
• 26:01
  amazed
• 26:02
  they
• 26:02
  were
• 26:02
  by
• 26:02
  Carl's
• 26:03
  legacy
• 26:03
  in
• 26:04
  that
• 26:04
  field.
• 26:05
  I
• 26:05
  mean,
• 26:05
  he
• 26:05
  really
• 26:05
  is
• 26:06
  truly,
• 26:06
  in
• 26:06
  many
• 26:07
  ways,
• 26:07
  a
• 26:07
  human
• 26:07
  rights
• 26:08
  ambassador
• 26:10
  racially
• 26:11
  through
• 26:12
  both
• 26:12
  his
• 26:12
  childhood
• 26:13
  best
• 26:13
  friend
• 26:14
  and
• 26:14
  then
• 26:14
  with
• 26:14
  his
• 26:14
  teammate
• 26:15
  Jackie
• 26:15
  Robinson.
• 26:16
  The
• 26:16
  two
• 26:16
  of
• 26:16
  them
• 26:16
  were
• 26:17
  incredibly
• 26:17
  close.
• 26:18
  But
• 26:18
  I
• 26:18
  would
• 26:18
  say,
• 26:19
  especially
• 26:19
  in
• 26:20
  that
• 26:20
  field
• 26:21
  of
• 26:21
  intellectual
• 26:22
  disability,
• 26:23
  he's
• 26:23
  just
• 26:23
  such
• 26:24
  an
• 26:25
  ambassador.
• 26:26
  So,
• 26:26
  I
• 26:26
  mean,
• 26:27
  that
• 26:28
  was.
• 26:29
  That's
• 26:29
  kind
• 26:30
  of
• 26:30
  why
• 26:30
  I
• 26:30
  wanted
• 26:30
  to
• 26:30
  get
• 26:31
  into
• 26:31
  that
• 26:31
  story.
• 26:31
  But
• 26:31
  I'll
• 26:32
  tell
• 26:32
  you,
• 26:32
  the
• 26:33
  baseball
• 26:33
  part
• 26:34
  was
• 26:34
  so
• 26:35
  fun
• 26:35
  to
• 26:35
  research.
• 26:36
  I
• 26:36
  mean,
• 26:36
  I'm
• 26:36
  no
• 26:36
  baseball
• 26:37
  historian,
• 26:38
  but
• 26:38
  I
• 26:38
  am
• 26:38
  a.
• 26:39
  I
• 26:39
  am
• 26:39
  a
• 26:40
  sports
• 26:40
  historian
• 26:40
  to
• 26:41
  some
• 26:41
  degree,
• 26:41
  and
• 26:41
  I
• 26:41
  interviewed
• 26:42
  all
• 26:42
  these
• 26:42
  guys
• 26:43
  and
• 26:44
  everybody
• 26:44
  agreed
• 26:45
  that
• 26:45
  there
• 26:45
  was
• 26:45
  just
• 26:45
  something
• 26:45
  so
• 26:46
  special,
• 26:47
  so
• 26:47
  unique
• 26:48
  and
• 26:48
  beloved
• 26:48
  about
• 26:49
  the
• 26:49
  Brooklyn
• 26:49
  dodgers
• 26:49
  of
• 26:50
  the
• 26:50
  1940s
• 26:50
  and
• 26:51
  50s.
• 26:52
  And
• 26:52
  so
• 26:52
  to
• 26:52
  be
• 26:52
  able
• 26:53
  to
• 26:53
  dive
• 26:53
  into
• 26:53
  that
• 26:54
  fully,
• 26:54
  interviewing,
• 26:55
  you
• 26:55
  know,
• 26:55
  the
• 26:55
  likes
• 26:55
  of
• 26:55
  Ben
• 26:56
  Sculley
• 26:56
  and
• 26:57
  Branch
• 26:57
  Rickey
• 26:57
  III
• 26:58
  and
• 26:58
  Bob
• 26:59
  Costas,
• 27:00
  Peter
• 27:00
  Goldenbach,
• 27:01
  and
• 27:01
  of
• 27:01
  course,
• 27:02
  Carl
• 27:02
  himself.
• 27:03
  Many
• 27:03
  times.
• 27:04
  You
• 27:04
  know,
• 27:04
  I
• 27:04
  just.
• 27:04
  I
• 27:04
  felt
• 27:05
  like
• 27:05
  a
• 27:05
  kid
• 27:05
  again.
• 27:06
  I
• 27:06
  was,
• 27:06
  you
• 27:06
  know,
• 27:07
  watching
• 27:07
  all
• 27:07
  the
• 27:07
  films
• 27:08
  going
• 27:08
  through.
• 27:08
  Went
• 27:08
  to
• 27:09
  the
• 27:09
  Library
• 27:09
  of
• 27:09
  Congress
• 27:10
  to
• 27:10
  go
• 27:10
  through
• 27:10
  all
• 27:10
  these
• 27:11
  defunct
• 27:11
  New
• 27:12
  York
• 27:12
  City
• 27:12
  newspapers
• 27:13
  from
• 27:13
  the
• 27:13
  1950s
• 27:14
  with
• 27:14
  their
• 27:14
  huge
• 27:14
  headlines,
• 27:15
  you
• 27:16
  know,
• 27:16
  and
• 27:16
  interviewing
• 27:17
  these
• 27:17
  guys,
• 27:17
  you
• 27:17
  know,
• 27:17
  octogenarians
• 27:18
  who
• 27:18
  grew
• 27:19
  up
• 27:19
  practically
• 27:19
  at
• 27:19
  Ebbets
• 27:20
  Field
• 27:20
  and
• 27:20
  would
• 27:20
  just
• 27:21
  get
• 27:21
  so
• 27:21
  wide
• 27:22
  eyed
• 27:22
  and
• 27:23
  think
• 27:23
  of
• 27:23
  it
• 27:23
  as
• 27:23
  so
• 27:24
  heavenly
• 27:24
  to
• 27:24
  this
• 27:25
  day.
• 27:25
  I
• 27:25
  mean,
• 27:26
  it
• 27:26
  was
• 27:26
  just.
• 27:26
  It
• 27:27
  was
• 27:27
  a
• 27:27
  blast.
• 27:28
  I
• 27:28
  mean,
• 27:28
  this.
• 27:29
  Carl
• 27:30
  played
• 27:30
  in
• 27:30
  what
• 27:31
  was
• 27:31
  a
• 27:31
  truly
• 27:32
  transformative
• 27:32
  era
• 27:33
  for
• 27:33
  the
• 27:33
  sport.
• 27:34
  This
• 27:34
  is
• 27:34
  trains
• 27:35
  to
• 27:35
  planes,
• 27:36
  radio
• 27:36
  to
• 27:36
  tv,
• 27:37
  east
• 27:37
  coast
• 27:38
  to
• 27:38
  west.
• 27:38
  And
• 27:39
  of
• 27:39
  course,
• 27:39
  biggest
• 27:39
  of
• 27:40
  all,
• 27:40
  integration.
• 27:41
  You
• 27:41
  know,
• 27:42
  he
• 27:42
  was
• 27:42
  front
• 27:42
  and
• 27:43
  center
• 27:43
  for
• 27:43
  all
• 27:43
  of
• 27:44
  that,
• 27:44
  particularly
• 27:45
  the
• 27:45
  latter
• 27:45
  with,
• 27:46
  as
• 27:46
  I
• 27:46
  mentioned
• 27:46
  earlier
• 27:47
  with
• 27:47
  Jackie
• 27:47
  Robinson.
• 27:48
  They
• 27:49
  were
• 27:49
  so
• 27:49
  close.
• 27:50
  And
• 27:50
  we
• 27:50
  go
• 27:50
  into
• 27:51
  that
• 27:51
  a
• 27:51
  lot
• 27:51
  in
• 27:51
  the
• 27:52
  film
• 27:52
  and
• 27:53
  includes
• 27:53
  a
• 27:53
  quote,
• 27:53
  you
• 27:53
  know,
• 27:54
  out
• 27:54
  of
• 27:54
  his
• 27:54
  own
• 27:54
  mouth,
• 27:55
  Jackie
• 27:55
  saying
• 27:56
  that
• 27:56
  no,
• 27:57
  Dodger,
• 27:58
  none
• 27:58
  knew
• 27:59
  more
• 27:59
  about
• 27:59
  what
• 27:59
  was
• 27:59
  going
• 28:00
  on
• 28:00
  than
• 28:01
  Carl
• 28:01
  did.
• 28:02
  And
• 28:02
  he
• 28:02
  meant
• 28:02
  racially
• 28:03
  on
• 28:03
  the
• 28:03
  Dodgers.
• 28:04
  So
• 28:04
  it
• 28:05
  was.
• 28:05
  It
• 28:05
  was
• 28:05
  powerful
• 28:06
  stuff.
• 28:06
  It's
• 28:06
  almost
• 28:07
  like
• 28:07
  two
• 28:07
  films
• 28:07
  in
• 28:07
  one.
• 28:08
  It
• 28:08
  starts
• 28:08
  out
• 28:08
  a
• 28:08
  baseball
• 28:09
  film
• 28:09
  and
• 28:10
  then
• 28:10
  it
• 28:10
  looks
• 28:10
  at
• 28:10
  Carl,
• 28:11
  the
• 28:11
  human
• 28:12
  rights
• 28:12
  ambassador,
• 28:13
  and
• 28:14
  I
• 28:14
  tell
• 28:14
  you,
• 28:16
  I
• 28:16
  feel
• 28:16
  so
• 28:16
  blessed
• 28:17
  that
• 28:17
  I
• 28:17
  got
• 28:17
  to
• 28:17
  chronicle
• 28:18
  this
• 28:18
  great
• 28:18
  man.
• 28:19
  I
• 28:19
  agree.
• 28:20
  I
• 28:20
  agree,
• 28:20
  Ted,
• 28:21
  and
• 28:21
  you
• 28:21
  did
• 28:22
  a
• 28:22
  tremendous
• 28:22
  job
• 28:22
  at
• 28:23
  it.
• 28:23
  For
• 28:23
  people
• 28:23
  that
• 28:23
  think
• 28:24
  that
• 28:24
  Carl
• 28:25
  Erskine
• 28:25
  is
• 28:26
  only
• 28:26
  baseball
• 28:27
  are
• 28:27
  only
• 28:27
  about
• 28:28
  one
• 28:28
  third
• 28:29
  correct,
• 28:29
  as
• 28:30
  Ted
• 28:30
  said,
• 28:31
  there's
• 28:31
  the
• 28:31
  Carl
• 28:31
  Erskine
• 28:32
  dealing
• 28:33
  with
• 28:33
  race
• 28:33
  relations,
• 28:34
  and
• 28:34
  there's
• 28:35
  the
• 28:35
  Carl
• 28:35
  Erskine
• 28:36
  dealing
• 28:37
  with
• 28:37
  special
• 28:38
  needs
• 28:38
  folks.
• 28:39
  And
• 28:40
  just
• 28:40
  a
• 28:40
  tremendous
• 28:41
  story
• 28:41
  brought
• 28:42
  out
• 28:42
  by
• 28:43
  the
• 28:43
  best
• 28:43
  we've
• 28:43
  got,
• 28:44
  the
• 28:44
  Carl
• 28:44
  Erskine
• 28:45
  story
• 28:45
  done
• 28:45
  by
• 28:46
  Ted
• 28:46
  Green.
• 28:46
  Ted
• 28:46
  Green
• 28:47
  is
• 28:47
  with
• 28:47
  us,
• 28:48
  by
• 28:48
  the
• 28:48
  way.
• 28:48
  He's
• 28:49
  going
• 28:49
  to
• 28:49
  be
• 28:49
  inducted
• 28:50
  into
• 28:50
  the
• 28:50
  New
• 28:50
  York
• 28:50
  State
• 28:51
  Baseball
• 28:51

• 28:52
  of

• 28:52
  in
• 28:53
  the

• 28:53
  of
• 28:54
  24
• 28:55
  next
• 28:55
  Sunday.
• 28:56
  And
• 28:56
  give
• 28:57
  us
• 28:57
  an
• 28:57
  idea,
• 28:57
  Ted.
• 28:58
  Some
• 28:58
  of
• 28:58
  the
• 28:59
  folks
• 28:59
  you
• 29:00
  gave
• 29:00
  us,
• 29:00
  Vin
• 29:00
  Scully,
• 29:01
  you
• 29:01
  gave
• 29:01
  us
• 29:02
  a
• 29:03
  couple
• 29:03
  of
• 29:03
  other
• 29:03
  names.
• 29:04
  Any
• 29:04
  other
• 29:04
  guys
• 29:05
  you
• 29:05
  interviewed
• 29:05
  for
• 29:06
  this
• 29:06
  project?
• 29:07
  Well,
• 29:08
  I
• 29:08
  mean,
• 29:08
  I
• 29:08
  got
• 29:08
  lucky.
• 29:09
  I
• 29:09
  also
• 29:09
  mentioned
• 29:10
  Bob
• 29:10
  Costas.
• 29:11
  This
• 29:11
  is
• 29:11
  the
• 29:11
  second
• 29:12
  film
• 29:12
  of
• 29:12
  mine
• 29:12
  that
• 29:12
  he
• 29:13
  has
• 29:13
  been
• 29:14
  in
• 29:14
  which
• 29:14
  I'm,
• 29:15
  you
• 29:15
  know,
• 29:15
  he's
• 29:15
  so
• 29:15
  wonderful.
• 29:16
  Branch
• 29:17
  Rickey
• 29:17
  iii,
• 29:18
  who
• 29:18
  I
• 29:19
  gave
• 29:19
  actually
• 29:19
  the
• 29:19
  final
• 29:20
  words
• 29:20
  to
• 29:20
  at
• 29:20
  the
• 29:21
  end
• 29:21
  because
• 29:21
  he
• 29:21
  was
• 29:22
  talking
• 29:22
  about
• 29:23
  the
• 29:23
  Erskine
• 29:23
  hero.
• 29:24
  He
• 29:24
  said,
• 29:24
  you
• 29:24
  know,
• 29:25
  in
• 29:25
  this
• 29:25
  day
• 29:25
  and
• 29:25
  age
• 29:26
  of,
• 29:26
  you
• 29:27
  know,
• 29:27
  celebrating
• 29:27
  the
• 29:28
  biggest
• 29:28
  and
• 29:28
  fastest
• 29:29
  and
• 29:29
  strongest
• 29:29
  and
• 29:30
  everything
• 29:31
  oversized,
• 29:32
  that
• 29:32
  he
• 29:32
  would
• 29:32
  take
• 29:32
  the
• 29:33
  Erskine
• 29:33
  hero
• 29:34
  every
• 29:34
  day.
• 29:36
  I
• 29:36
  got
• 29:36
  to
• 29:37
  interview
• 29:37
  a
• 29:37
  guy
• 29:37
  named.
• 29:37
  People
• 29:38
  might
• 29:38
  not
• 29:38
  know
• 29:38
  his
• 29:39
  name,
• 29:39
  but
• 29:39
  Marty
• 29:39
  Lurie,
• 29:40
  who
• 29:40
  was
• 29:40
  a
• 29:40
  longtime
• 29:41
  radio
• 29:41
  voice
• 29:42
  of
• 29:42
  the
• 29:42
  San
• 29:43
  Francisco
• 29:43
  Giants,
• 29:44
  he
• 29:45
  was
• 29:45
  wonderful.
• 29:46
  Peter
• 29:46
  Goldenbach,
• 29:47
  who
• 29:47
  was
• 29:47
  the
• 29:47
  author
• 29:48
  of
• 29:48
  Bums,
• 29:49
  an
• 29:50
  oral
• 29:50
  history
• 29:50
  of
• 29:50
  the
• 29:51
  Dodgers,
• 29:51
  but
• 29:52
  also
• 29:52
  people
• 29:52
  like
• 29:53
  Tim
• 29:54
  Schriever,
• 29:55
  who
• 29:55
  is
• 29:55
  the
• 29:56
  son
• 29:57
  of
• 29:57
  Special
• 29:57
  Olympics
• 29:58
  founder
• 29:58
  Eunice
• 29:59
  Kennedy
• 29:59
  Shriver,
• 30:00
  and
• 30:00
  he
• 30:01
  now
• 30:01
  runs
• 30:01
  the
• 30:01
  international
• 30:02
  organization,
• 30:03
  talking
• 30:03
  about
• 30:04
  how
• 30:04
  absolutely
• 30:05
  integral
• 30:06
  Carl
• 30:06
  was,
• 30:07
  perhaps
• 30:08
  beyond
• 30:08
  anybody
• 30:09
  except
• 30:09
  for
• 30:09
  his
• 30:09
  mom,
• 30:10
  his
• 30:10
  dad,
• 30:11
  at
• 30:12
  sort
• 30:12
  of
• 30:12
  furthering
• 30:13
  the
• 30:13
  cause
• 30:13
  of
• 30:14
  people
• 30:14
  with
• 30:14
  special
• 30:15
  needs.
• 30:15
  And
• 30:15
  so
• 30:16
  it's
• 30:16
  really,
• 30:17
  you
• 30:17
  know,
• 30:17
  I
• 30:17
  didn't
• 30:17
  really
• 30:18
  know
• 30:18
  what
• 30:18
  to
• 30:18
  expect
• 30:19
  going
• 30:19
  into
• 30:19
  the
• 30:20
  story,
• 30:20
  but,
• 30:21
  you
• 30:21
  know,
• 30:21
  I
• 30:21
  just
• 30:21
  kept
• 30:22
  sort
• 30:22
  of,
• 30:22
  after
• 30:22
  a
• 30:23
  while,
• 30:23
  just
• 30:23
  pinching
• 30:23
  myself,
• 30:24
  thinking,
• 30:25
  you
• 30:25
  know,
• 30:25
  this
• 30:25
  is
• 30:25
  almost
• 30:26
  too
• 30:26
  good
• 30:26
  to
• 30:26
  be
• 30:26
  true.
• 30:27
  But
• 30:27
  it
• 30:27
  really
• 30:28
  is
• 30:28
  true.
• 30:28
  You
• 30:29
  know,
• 30:29
  he's.
• 30:30
  Carl
• 30:31
  Erskine
• 30:32
  is
• 30:32
  just
• 30:32
  someone
• 30:32
  who
• 30:33
  got
• 30:33
  it
• 30:34
  right
• 30:34
  in
• 30:34
  life.
• 30:35
  You're
• 30:36
  exactly
• 30:36
  right.
• 30:37
  Yeah.
• 30:37
  And
• 30:38
  along
• 30:38
  with
• 30:39
  Senator
• 30:39
  Bill
• 30:39
  Bradley,
• 30:40
  whom
• 30:40
  I
• 30:40
  had
• 30:41
  the
• 30:41
  honor
• 30:41
  and
• 30:42
  the
• 30:42
  pleasure
• 30:42
  to
• 30:42
  speak
• 30:42
  to,
• 30:43
  Carl
• 30:43
  Erskine
• 30:44
  is
• 30:44
  probably
• 30:45
  one
• 30:45
  guest
• 30:45
  I
• 30:45
  could
• 30:46
  think
• 30:46
  of,
• 30:46
  head
• 30:47
  and
• 30:47
  shoulders
• 30:47
  above
• 30:48
  of
• 30:48
  an
• 30:49
  example
• 30:49
  of
• 30:50
  a
• 30:50
  life
• 30:50
  well
• 30:51
  lived.
• 30:52
  Absolutely.
• 30:53
  Dollar
• 30:53
  Bill,
• 30:54
  huh?
• 30:54
  Oh,
• 30:54
  yeah.
• 30:55
  Yes.
• 30:55
  That
• 30:56
  was
• 30:56
  a
• 30:56
  highlight
• 30:56
  for
• 30:57
  me,
• 30:57
  Ted.
• 30:58
  We
• 30:59
  share
• 30:59
  an
• 30:59
  alma
• 30:59
  mater,
• 31:00
  and
• 31:00
  he
• 31:00
  and
• 31:01
  my
• 31:01
  uncle
• 31:01
  were
• 31:01
  friends
• 31:02
  anyways,
• 31:03
  but,
• 31:03
  yeah,
• 31:04
  that's
• 31:04
  certainly
• 31:05
  an
• 31:05
  apt
• 31:05
  comparison.
• 31:05
  I
• 31:06
  mean,
• 31:06
  this
• 31:06
  is,
• 31:07
  you
• 31:07
  know,
• 31:07
  I
• 31:07
  was
• 31:07
  just
• 31:07
  sort
• 31:07
  of
• 31:08
  watching
• 31:08
  the
• 31:08
  end
• 31:08
  of
• 31:08
  the
• 31:08
  film
• 31:09
  again,
• 31:09
  just
• 31:10
  to
• 31:10
  sort
• 31:10
  of
• 31:10
  get
• 31:10
  inspired
• 31:11
  for
• 31:11
  this,
• 31:11
  and
• 31:11
  I
• 31:11
  was
• 31:11
  really
• 31:12
  struck
• 31:12
  by,
• 31:13
  you
• 31:13
  know,
• 31:13
  we
• 31:13
  show.
• 31:14
  We
• 31:14
  spend
• 31:14
  some
• 31:14
  time
• 31:15
  doing
• 31:15
  sort
• 31:15
  of
• 31:15
  a
• 31:16
  beauty
• 31:16
  shot
• 31:16
  on
• 31:17
  Jackie
• 31:17
  Robinson's
• 31:18
  tomb
• 31:20
  in
• 31:20
  his
• 31:20
  gravestone.
• 31:21
  And
• 31:21
  etched
• 31:22
  onto
• 31:22
  it,
• 31:22
  it
• 31:23
  says,
• 31:23
  a
• 31:24
  life
• 31:24
  is
• 31:24
  not
• 31:24
  important
• 31:25
  except
• 31:26
  in
• 31:26
  the
• 31:26
  impact
• 31:26
  it
• 31:27
  has
• 31:27
  on
• 31:27
  other
• 31:27
  lives.
• 31:29
  And
• 31:29
  I
• 31:29
  think
• 31:29
  you'd
• 31:30
  be
• 31:30
  hard
• 31:30
  pressed
• 31:31
  to
• 31:31
  find
• 31:31
  a
• 31:31
  better
• 31:31
  example
• 31:32
  other
• 31:32
  than
• 31:32
  maybe
• 31:32
  Jackie
• 31:33
  himself
• 31:33
  than
• 31:34
  his
• 31:34
  buddy
• 31:34
  Carl.
• 31:35
  And,
• 31:35
  you
• 31:35
  know,
• 31:35
  I
• 31:36
  hope
• 31:36
  people
• 31:36
  will,
• 31:37
  you
• 31:37
  know,
• 31:37
  it's
• 31:38
  my
• 31:38
  great
• 31:38
  hope
• 31:39
  people
• 31:39
  will
• 31:39
  take
• 31:39
  some.
• 31:40
  Take
• 31:40
  the
• 31:40
  time
• 31:40
  and,
• 31:40
  you
• 31:41
  know,
• 31:41
  find
• 31:41
  the
• 31:41
  film
• 31:42
  and
• 31:42
  watch
• 31:43
  it,
• 31:43
  because
• 31:43
  I
• 31:44
  guarantee
• 31:44
  you,
• 31:44
  you're
• 31:45
  going
• 31:45
  to
• 31:45
  be
• 31:45
  inspired.
• 31:46
  I
• 31:46
  mean,
• 31:46
  this
• 31:46
  was.
• 31:47
  Learning
• 31:48
  about
• 31:48
  him
• 31:48
  was
• 31:48
  the
• 31:49
  greatest
• 31:49
  education
• 31:50
  of
• 31:50
  my
• 31:50
  life.
• 31:52
  Wonderful.
• 31:53
  That
• 31:53
  was
• 31:54
  a
• 31:54
  great
• 31:54
  answer
• 31:55
  to
• 31:55
  that,
• 31:56
  Ted.
• 31:56
  Now
• 31:57
  working
• 31:58
  with
• 31:58
  Carl
• 31:58
  and
• 31:58
  Betty
• 31:59
  Erskine,
• 31:59
  you
• 31:59
  and
• 31:59
  I
• 32:00
  spoke
• 32:00
  a
• 32:00
  little
• 32:00
  bit
• 32:00
  about
• 32:01
  it
• 32:01
  during
• 32:01
  the
• 32:01
  week
• 32:01
  on
• 32:02
  the
• 32:02
  telephone.
• 32:02
  Just
• 32:03
  give
• 32:03
  the
• 32:04
  folks
• 32:04
  an
• 32:04
  idea
• 32:05
  of
• 32:06
  these
• 32:07
  two
• 32:07
  folks,
• 32:07
  Carl
• 32:08
  and
• 32:08
  Betty
• 32:08
  Erskine.
• 32:10
  Well,
• 32:10
  I
• 32:10
  mean,
• 32:11
  they
• 32:11
  met
• 32:12
  as
• 32:12
  teenagers
• 32:13
  in
• 32:13
  their
• 32:14
  hometown
• 32:14
  of
• 32:14
  Anderson,
• 32:15
  Indiana.
• 32:16
  They
• 32:17
  never
• 32:17
  left
• 32:17
  their
• 32:17
  hometown.
• 32:18
  They
• 32:18
  thought
• 32:18
  about
• 32:19
  it,
• 32:19
  but
• 32:20
  they
• 32:20
  decided
• 32:20
  when
• 32:21
  they
• 32:21
  had
• 32:21
  their
• 32:21
  son
• 32:22
  Jimmy,
• 32:22
  who
• 32:23
  had
• 32:23
  down
• 32:24
  syndrome,
• 32:24
  that
• 32:25
  the
• 32:25
  best
• 32:25
  place
• 32:25
  to
• 32:26
  raise
• 32:26
  them
• 32:26
  was
• 32:26
  where
• 32:26
  their
• 32:27
  friends
• 32:27
  were
• 32:27
  and
• 32:27
  where
• 32:28
  their
• 32:28
  family
• 32:28
  were
• 32:29
  and
• 32:29
  all
• 32:29
  that.
• 32:30
  So
• 32:30
  Carl
• 32:31
  and
• 32:31
  Betty,
• 32:31
  I
• 32:31
  mean,
• 32:31
  they
• 32:31
  got.
• 32:32
  They
• 32:32
  got
• 32:32
  married
• 32:33
  young,
• 32:33
  and
• 32:34
  they
• 32:34
  were
• 32:34
  married
• 32:34
  for
• 32:35
  76
• 32:36
  years,
• 32:36
  which
• 32:36
  I
• 32:36
  think
• 32:36
  is
• 32:37
  pretty,
• 32:37
  pretty
• 32:38
  impressive.
• 32:39
  He.
• 32:39
  Now,
• 32:40
  Carl
• 32:40
  passed
• 32:40
  away
• 32:42
  last
• 32:42
  spring
• 32:43
  at
• 32:44
  97.
• 32:44
  And
• 32:45
  Betty
• 32:45
  is
• 32:46
  96
• 32:46
  now.
• 32:47
  And
• 32:47
  it's
• 32:48
  been
• 32:48
  a
• 32:48
  tough
• 32:48
  year
• 32:48
  for
• 32:48
  her.
• 32:49
  She
• 32:49
  not
• 32:49
  only
• 32:49
  did
• 32:49
  she
• 32:49
  lose
• 32:50
  Carl,
• 32:50
  but
• 32:50
  she
• 32:50
  also
• 32:51
  lost
• 32:51
  Jimmy,
• 32:52
  who
• 32:52
  was
• 32:53
  supposed
• 32:53
  to
• 32:53
  live
• 32:53
  till
• 32:54
  30
• 32:54
  and
• 32:54
  ended
• 32:55
  up
• 32:55
  living
• 32:55
  till
• 32:57
  boy.
• 32:58
  I
• 32:58
  guess
• 32:58
  it
• 32:58
  would
• 32:58
  have
• 32:58
  been
• 32:59
  63.
• 33:00
  And
• 33:01
  she
• 33:01
  lost
• 33:01
  her
• 33:02
  oldest
• 33:02
  son
• 33:02
  as
• 33:03
  well.
• 33:03
  So
• 33:03
  she's,
• 33:03
  you
• 33:03
  know,
• 33:04
  lost
• 33:04
  three
• 33:04
  people
• 33:05
  from
• 33:06
  her
• 33:06
  direct
• 33:06
  family.
• 33:07
  And
• 33:07
  it's
• 33:08
  been
• 33:08
  very
• 33:08
  hard
• 33:08
  on
• 33:08
  her.
• 33:09
  But
• 33:09
  I'll
• 33:09
  tell
• 33:09
  you,
• 33:09
  my
• 33:10
  wife
• 33:10
  and
• 33:10
  I
• 33:11
  go
• 33:11
  up
• 33:11
  to
• 33:11
  Anderson
• 33:12
  to
• 33:12
  visit
• 33:12
  her
• 33:13
  pretty
• 33:13
  often.
• 33:13
  And
• 33:14
  we
• 33:14
  were
• 33:14
  just
• 33:14
  there,
• 33:15
  I
• 33:15
  guess
• 33:15
  it
• 33:15
  was
• 33:15
  last
• 33:15
  week
• 33:16
  on
• 33:17
  the
• 33:17
  day
• 33:17
  that.
• 33:18
  That
• 33:18
  night
• 33:18
  the
• 33:19
  Dodgers
• 33:19
  clinched.
• 33:21
  And
• 33:21
  she
• 33:21
  was
• 33:21
  so
• 33:22
  excited
• 33:22
  about
• 33:22
  watching
• 33:23
  the
• 33:23
  game.
• 33:23
  I
• 33:23
  mean,
• 33:23
  in
• 33:24
  fact,
• 33:24
  she
• 33:24
  was
• 33:24
  already.
• 33:24
  She
• 33:25
  was
• 33:25
  dressed
• 33:25
  in
• 33:25
  blue
• 33:25
  and
• 33:26
  she
• 33:26
  was.
• 33:26
  She
• 33:26
  was
• 33:27
  wrapped
• 33:27
  up
• 33:27
  with
• 33:28
  quilt
• 33:29
  she
• 33:29
  received
• 33:30
  recently
• 33:30
  from
• 33:31
  the
• 33:31
  daughter,
• 33:32
  one
• 33:32
  of
• 33:32
  the
• 33:32
  daughters
• 33:33
  of
• 33:33
  Duke
• 33:33
  Snyder.
• 33:35
  Carl
• 33:35
  and
• 33:35
  Duke
• 33:36
  were
• 33:36
  roommates,
• 33:36
  and
• 33:37
  they.
• 33:37
  And
• 33:37
  on
• 33:38
  the
• 33:38
  road.
• 33:38
  And
• 33:39
  during
• 33:39
  spring
• 33:39
  training,
• 33:39
  the
• 33:40
  two
• 33:40
  families
• 33:40
  would
• 33:40
  rent
• 33:41
  a
• 33:41
  house
• 33:41
  together
• 33:42
  down
• 33:42
  in
• 33:42
  Dodgertown
• 33:43
  with
• 33:43
  all
• 33:43
  the
• 33:44
  little
• 33:44
  kids
• 33:44
  running
• 33:44
  around.
• 33:45
  And
• 33:45
  it's
• 33:46
  one
• 33:46
  of
• 33:46
  the.
• 33:46
  I
• 33:46
  guess
• 33:47
  if
• 33:47
  there's
• 33:47
  a
• 33:48
  silver
• 33:48
  lining
• 33:48
  to
• 33:48
  anything
• 33:49
  at
• 33:49
  Carl's
• 33:50
  funeral,
• 33:50
  I
• 33:50
  mean,
• 33:50
  the
• 33:51
  two
• 33:51
  families
• 33:51
  had
• 33:51
  sort
• 33:51
  of
• 33:51
  drifted
• 33:52
  apart
• 33:52
  over
• 33:53
  all
• 33:53
  these
• 33:53
  decades,
• 33:54
  but
• 33:54
  Duke's
• 33:55
  son
• 33:56
  attended
• 33:56
  Carl's
• 33:57
  funeral,
• 33:57
  and
• 33:58
  that
• 33:58
  led
• 33:58
  to
• 33:58
  the
• 33:59
  families
• 33:59
  reconnecting.
• 34:00
  Nice.
• 34:01
  And
• 34:01
  that
• 34:01
  has
• 34:02
  brought.
• 34:02
  It's
• 34:03
  brought
• 34:03
  Betty
• 34:04
  so
• 34:04
  much
• 34:04
  joy.
• 34:05
  And
• 34:05
  just
• 34:05
  to
• 34:05
  think
• 34:06
  of
• 34:06
  her,
• 34:06
  you
• 34:06
  know,
• 34:06
  staying
• 34:07
  up
• 34:07
  and.
• 34:07
  Which
• 34:07
  is
• 34:08
  late
• 34:08
  for
• 34:08
  her,
• 34:08
  but
• 34:08
  she
• 34:08
  stayed
• 34:09
  up
• 34:09
  and
• 34:09
  she
• 34:09
  watched
• 34:09
  the
• 34:09
  whole
• 34:10
  thing.
• 34:11
  And
• 34:11
  to
• 34:11
  see
• 34:12
  the
• 34:12
  Dodgers
• 34:13
  clinch,
• 34:13
  you
• 34:14
  know,
• 34:14
  it's
• 34:15
  pretty
• 34:15
  special.
• 34:16
  Oh,
• 34:16
  for
• 34:17
  sure.
• 34:18
  The
• 34:18
  admiration
• 34:19
  you
• 34:20
  can
• 34:20
  feel.
• 34:21
  The
• 34:21
  special,
• 34:22
  the
• 34:23
  special
• 34:23
  people,
• 34:24
  Carl
• 34:24
  and
• 34:24
  Betty
• 34:24
  Erskine,
• 34:25
  you
• 34:25
  can
• 34:25
  feel
• 34:26
  through
• 34:26
  your
• 34:26
  depiction
• 34:27
  of
• 34:28
  Betty
• 34:29
  and
• 34:29
  her
• 34:29
  life.
• 34:30
  Now,
• 34:31
  what
• 34:31
  special,
• 34:32
  special
• 34:32
  people?
• 34:33
  Now,
• 34:34
  this
• 34:34
  film,
• 34:35
  Ted,
• 34:36
  the
• 34:37
  Carl
• 34:37
  Erskine
• 34:37
  Story.
• 34:38
  Where
• 34:38
  can
• 34:39
  people
• 34:39
  find
• 34:39
  this
• 34:40
  now
• 34:40
  if
• 34:40
  they
• 34:40
  want
• 34:40
  to
• 34:41
  take
• 34:41
  a
• 34:41
  look
• 34:41
  at
• 34:41
  it?
• 34:42
  Okay.
• 34:43
  Well,
• 34:43
  I
• 34:43
  mean,
• 34:43
  it's
• 34:43
  been
• 34:44
  on
• 34:44
  the
• 34:44
  Major
• 34:44
  League
• 34:45
  Baseball
• 34:45
  Network
• 34:45
  right
• 34:46
  when
• 34:46
  it
• 34:46
  first
• 34:46
  came
• 34:46
  out.
• 34:47
  It's
• 34:48
  still
• 34:48
  playing
• 34:49
  on
• 34:49
  PBS
• 34:49
  stations
• 34:50
  from
• 34:50
  time
• 34:50
  to
• 34:50
  time,
• 34:51
  and
• 34:51
  15
• 34:52
  of
• 34:52
  the
• 34:52
  top
• 34:53
  20
• 34:53
  markets
• 34:54
  nationally.
• 34:54
  I
• 34:54
  mean,
• 34:55
  New
• 34:55
  York,
• 34:55
  L.A.
• 34:56
  chicago,
• 34:56
  Philly,
• 34:56
  etc.
• 34:57
  You
• 34:58
  can
• 34:58
  also
• 34:58
  stream
• 34:59
  the
• 34:59
  film
• 35:00
  from
• 35:01
  the
• 35:01
  project
• 35:01
  website,
• 35:02
  and
• 35:02
  that
• 35:03
  is
• 35:03
  Carl
• 35:04
  Erskine
• 35:04
  Film
• 35:06
  Calm.
• 35:06
  Carl
• 35:07
  Erskine
• 35:07
  Film
• 35:08
  Calm.
• 35:09
  And
• 35:09
  I
• 35:09
  also
• 35:09
  sell
• 35:10
  DVDs
• 35:10
  and
• 35:11
  Blu
• 35:11
  Rays,
• 35:11
  even
• 35:11
  though.
• 35:12
  Even
• 35:12
  though
• 35:12
  those
• 35:13
  are
• 35:13
  for
• 35:13
  the
• 35:13
  older
• 35:13
  set.
• 35:15
  That's
• 35:15
  kind
• 35:15
  of
• 35:15
  my
• 35:16
  audience
• 35:16
  with
• 35:16
  this
• 35:16
  one.
• 35:17
  A
• 35:18
  lot
• 35:18
  of
• 35:18
  people
• 35:19
  who
• 35:19
  still
• 35:20
  like
• 35:20
  to
• 35:20
  consume
• 35:21
  their
• 35:21
  videos
• 35:22
  that
• 35:22
  way.
• 35:23
  So
• 35:23
  there
• 35:23
  are
• 35:23
  lots
• 35:24
  of
• 35:24
  ways
• 35:24
  to
• 35:24
  watch
• 35:24
  it,
• 35:25
  really.
• 35:25
  The
• 35:26
  home
• 35:26
  site
• 35:27
  is
• 35:27
  the
• 35:27
  place
• 35:27
  you
• 35:28
  can
• 35:28
  find
• 35:28
  all
• 35:28
  sorts
• 35:28
  of
• 35:28
  stuff.
• 35:30
  And
• 35:31
  Again,
• 35:31
  that's
• 35:31
  Carl
• 35:31
  Erskinefilm.com
• 35:33
  I
• 35:33
  recommend.
• 35:34
  This
• 35:34
  for
• 35:34
  anybody
• 35:35
  who's
• 35:36
  a
• 35:37
  fan
• 35:37
  of
• 35:37
  humanity,
• 35:38
  actually.
• 35:39
  Carl,
• 35:40
  as
• 35:40
  I
• 35:40
  said,
• 35:41
  involved
• 35:41
  in
• 35:42
  so
• 35:42
  many
• 35:42
  aspects
• 35:43
  of
• 35:43
  life,
• 35:43
  not
• 35:44
  only
• 35:44
  baseball.
• 35:44
  And
• 35:45
  as
• 35:45
  Ted
• 35:45
  depicted
• 35:46
  earlier,
• 35:47
  the
• 35:48
  special
• 35:49
  magic
• 35:50
  that
• 35:50
  was
• 35:50
  the
• 35:50
  Brooklyn
• 35:51
  Dodgers.
• 35:51
  That
• 35:51
  was
• 35:52
  Ebbetts
• 35:52
  Field,
• 35:53
  a
• 35:54
  place
• 35:54
  where
• 35:54
  you
• 35:54
  could
• 35:54
  see
• 35:55
  Hilda
• 35:55
  Chester
• 35:55
  and
• 35:56
  her
• 35:56
  cowbell,
• 35:57
  the
• 35:57
  symphony
• 35:58
  orchestra,
• 36:00
  Vin
• 36:00
  Scully,
• 36:01
  Red
• 36:01
  Barber
• 36:02
  up
• 36:02
  in
• 36:02
  the
• 36:02
  booth,
• 36:04
  Hap
• 36:05
  Felton
• 36:05
  and
• 36:05
  the
• 36:06
  Knothole
• 36:06
  gang
• 36:07
  with
• 36:07
  the
• 36:07
  kids.
• 36:08
  I
• 36:08
  mean,
• 36:09
  it's
• 36:10
  the
• 36:10
  stuff
• 36:10
  legends
• 36:11
  are
• 36:11
  made
• 36:11
  of.
• 36:11
  And
• 36:12
  so
• 36:12
  many,
• 36:12
  so
• 36:13
  many
• 36:13
  films,
• 36:14
  so
• 36:14
  many
• 36:14
  TV
• 36:15
  shows
• 36:16
  have
• 36:16
  been
• 36:16
  made
• 36:17
  about
• 36:17
  the
• 36:17
  Brooklyn
• 36:17
  Dodgers,
• 36:18
  and
• 36:19
  rightfully
• 36:19
  so
• 36:19
  in
• 36:19
  our
• 36:20
  last
• 36:20
  few
• 36:20
  minutes.
• 36:20
  Ted,
• 36:21
  any
• 36:21
  other
• 36:22
  upcoming
• 36:22
  projects
• 36:23
  we
• 36:24
  could
• 36:24
  look
• 36:24
  for
• 36:25
  from
• 36:25
  you?
• 36:26
  Well,
• 36:26
  if
• 36:26
  you
• 36:27
  wouldn't
• 36:27
  mind,
• 36:27
  I'd
• 36:27
  like
• 36:28
  to
• 36:28
  say
• 36:28
  one
• 36:28
  more
• 36:28
  thing
• 36:29
  about
• 36:29
  the
• 36:29
  Carl
• 36:29
  Erskine
• 36:29
  project.
• 36:30
  Sure,
• 36:30
  go
• 36:30
  right
• 36:30
  ahead.
• 36:31
  Again,
• 36:31
  I
• 36:31
  really
• 36:31
  appreciate
• 36:32
  this,
• 36:32
  but
• 36:32
  I
• 36:32
  think
• 36:33
  one
• 36:33
  thing
• 36:33
  I
• 36:33
  would
• 36:34
  love
• 36:34
  for
• 36:34
  your
• 36:34
  viewers
• 36:35
  to
• 36:35
  know,
• 36:35
  if
• 36:35
  they
• 36:36
  don't,
• 36:36
  was
• 36:36
  that
• 36:37
  Carl
• 36:38
  last.
• 36:39
  I
• 36:39
  guess
• 36:39
  it
• 36:39
  would
• 36:39
  have
• 36:39
  been.
• 36:40
  Two
• 36:40
  summers
• 36:40
  ago,
• 36:41
  he
• 36:42
  received
• 36:42
  the
• 36:42
  Buck
• 36:43
  O'Neill
• 36:43
  Lifetime
• 36:44
  Achievement
• 36:45
  Award
• 36:45
  from
• 36:45
  the
• 36:45
  National
• 36:46
  Baseball
• 36:46
  hall
• 36:46
  of
• 36:46
  Fame.
• 36:47
  I
• 36:47
  mean,
• 36:48
  it's
• 36:48
  just.
• 36:48
  It's
• 36:48
  only
• 36:49
  been.
• 36:49
  They
• 36:49
  only
• 36:49
  hand
• 36:49
  that
• 36:50
  out
• 36:50
  once
• 36:50
  every
• 36:50
  three
• 36:51
  years.
• 36:51
  He's
• 36:52
  only
• 36:52
  the
• 36:52
  sixth
• 36:53
  winner,
• 36:53
  joining
• 36:54
  the
• 36:54
  likes
• 36:54
  of
• 36:55
  Joe
• 36:55
  Garagiola
• 36:56
  and
• 36:57
  Rachel
• 36:57
  Robinson,
• 36:58
  Jackie's
• 36:59
  widow.
• 37:00
  And,
• 37:00
  you
• 37:00
  know,
• 37:01
  it
• 37:01
  was
• 37:01
  just
• 37:02
  kind
• 37:02
  of
• 37:02
  amazing
• 37:04
  how
• 37:04
  that
• 37:05
  happened.
• 37:05
  Of
• 37:05
  course
• 37:05
  it
• 37:05
  happened
• 37:06
  because
• 37:06
  Carl
• 37:06
  was
• 37:06
  such
• 37:07
  a
• 37:07
  virtuous
• 37:08
  guy
• 37:08
  and
• 37:08
  such
• 37:09
  a
• 37:09
  great
• 37:09
  player.
• 37:10
  But
• 37:11
  I
• 37:11
  had
• 37:11
  no
• 37:12
  idea
• 37:12
  that
• 37:13
  Jerry
• 37:14
  Reinsdorf,
• 37:15
  the
• 37:15
  owner
• 37:15
  of
• 37:16
  the
• 37:16
  Bulls
• 37:16
  and
• 37:17
  the
• 37:17
  White
• 37:17
  Sox,
• 37:19
  grew
• 37:19
  up
• 37:19
  in
• 37:19
  Brooklyn
• 37:20
  and
• 37:20
  was
• 37:20
  such
• 37:20
  a
• 37:21
  huge
• 37:21
  Dodger
• 37:22
  fan.
• 37:22
  I
• 37:22
  mean,
• 37:22
  had
• 37:23
  I
• 37:23
  known,
• 37:23
  believe
• 37:23
  me,
• 37:23
  I
• 37:23
  would.
• 37:24
  I
• 37:24
  would
• 37:24
  have
• 37:24
  approached
• 37:25
  him
• 37:25
  for
• 37:25
  some
• 37:25
  funding.
• 37:26
  But
• 37:27
  he
• 37:28
  learned
• 37:28
  about
• 37:28
  the
• 37:29
  film
• 37:30
  through
• 37:30
  Martha
• 37:31
  Black,
• 37:31
  who
• 37:31
  I
• 37:31
  think
• 37:31
  he
• 37:32
  might
• 37:32
  be
• 37:32
  having
• 37:32
  on
• 37:32
  later
• 37:33
  this
• 37:33
  evening.
• 37:33
  She's
• 37:34
  a.
• 37:34
  She's
• 37:34
  up
• 37:34
  right
• 37:35
  after
• 37:35
  you.
• 37:35
  Yeah.
• 37:36
  Yeah,
• 37:36
  that's
• 37:36
  great.
• 37:37
  So
• 37:37
  Martha
• 37:37
  got,
• 37:38
  you
• 37:38
  know,
• 37:38
  he
• 37:39
  got
• 37:39
  win
• 37:39
  of
• 37:39
  the
• 37:39
  film
• 37:39
  through
• 37:40
  Marsa,
• 37:40
  and
• 37:41
  the
• 37:41
  two
• 37:41
  of
• 37:41
  them
• 37:42
  actually
• 37:42
  came
• 37:43
  down
• 37:43
  to
• 37:43
  little
• 37:44
  Anderson,
• 37:44
  Indiana
• 37:45
  in
• 37:45
  a
• 37:45
  private
• 37:45
  jet
• 37:46
  to
• 37:46
  attend
• 37:47
  the
• 37:47
  premiere.
• 37:49
  And
• 37:49
  so
• 37:50
  the
• 37:50
  next
• 37:50
  day,
• 37:50
  I'm
• 37:51
  going
• 37:51
  to
• 37:51
  confess,
• 37:51
  I
• 37:51
  might
• 37:52
  have
• 37:52
  been
• 37:52
  in
• 37:52
  a
• 37:52
  little
• 37:52
  local
• 37:53
  watering
• 37:53
  hole
• 37:54
  kind
• 37:54
  of
• 37:54
  celebrating
• 37:55
  everything,
• 37:56
  and
• 37:56
  I
• 37:56
  got
• 37:56
  a
• 37:57
  call
• 37:57
  and
• 37:57
  it
• 37:57
  said,
• 37:57
  jerry
• 37:58
  Reinstorm.
• 37:59
  It's
• 38:00
  not
• 38:00
  every
• 38:00
  day
• 38:00
  I
• 38:00
  get
• 38:00
  a
• 38:01
  call
• 38:01
  from
• 38:01
  Major
• 38:02
  League
• 38:02
  Baseball
• 38:02
  owner.
• 38:03
  So
• 38:04
  picked
• 38:04
  it
• 38:04
  up,
• 38:05
  and
• 38:05
  his
• 38:05
  very
• 38:05
  first
• 38:06
  words,
• 38:06
  not
• 38:06
  even
• 38:06
  a
• 38:06
  hello,
• 38:07
  was
• 38:08
  ted.
• 38:08
  I
• 38:08
  didn't
• 38:09
  think
• 38:09
  I
• 38:09
  was
• 38:09
  going
• 38:09
  to
• 38:09
  like
• 38:09
  that
• 38:10
  film.
• 38:11
  Wow.
• 38:11
  Okay,
• 38:12
  great.
• 38:12
  Thanks
• 38:12
  a
• 38:13
  lot,
• 38:13
  he
• 38:13
  said.
• 38:13
  But
• 38:14
  I
• 38:14
  really,
• 38:14
  really
• 38:15
  did.
• 38:15
  And
• 38:15
  I'm
• 38:15
  wondering
• 38:15
  if
• 38:16
  you
• 38:16
  could
• 38:16
  help
• 38:16
  me
• 38:16
  with
• 38:17
  something.
• 38:17
  So
• 38:18
  I
• 38:18
  said,
• 38:19
  sure.
• 38:19
  And
• 38:19
  he
• 38:19
  told
• 38:20
  me
• 38:20
  about
• 38:20
  the
• 38:20
  Buck
• 38:20
  O'Neill
• 38:21
  Award.
• 38:22
  And,
• 38:22
  you
• 38:22
  know,
• 38:23
  he
• 38:23
  could
• 38:23
  sort
• 38:23
  of
• 38:23
  carry
• 38:23
  the
• 38:24
  water
• 38:24
  with
• 38:24
  the
• 38:24
  other
• 38:25
  owners,
• 38:25
  but
• 38:25
  he
• 38:25
  wanted
• 38:25
  to
• 38:26
  use
• 38:26
  the
• 38:26
  film
• 38:26
  to
• 38:27
  really
• 38:27
  sort
• 38:27
  of,
• 38:28
  you
• 38:28
  know,
• 38:28
  show
• 38:29
  who
• 38:29
  Carl
• 38:29
  was
• 38:30
  both
• 38:30
  on
• 38:30
  and
• 38:30
  off
• 38:31
  the
• 38:31
  field.
• 38:32
  And
• 38:32
  so
• 38:33
  he
• 38:33
  ends
• 38:33
  up,
• 38:34
  long
• 38:34
  story
• 38:34
  short,
• 38:34
  he
• 38:34
  ends
• 38:35
  up
• 38:35
  winning
• 38:36
  that
• 38:36
  award.
• 38:37
  And
• 38:37
  at
• 38:37
  this
• 38:37
  point,
• 38:38
  and
• 38:38
  his
• 38:38
  family
• 38:38
  went
• 38:39
  out
• 38:39
  there
• 38:39
  and
• 38:39
  my
• 38:39
  wife
• 38:40
  and
• 38:40
  I
• 38:40
  went,
• 38:41
  and
• 38:41
  Jim
• 38:41
  Denny,
• 38:41
  our
• 38:42
  mutual
• 38:42
  friend,
• 38:42
  he
• 38:43
  came
• 38:43
  out
• 38:43
  there
• 38:43
  as
• 38:43
  well.
• 38:44
  But
• 38:45
  Carl
• 38:45
  and
• 38:45
  Betty
• 38:45
  weren't
• 38:46
  able
• 38:46
  to
• 38:46
  come.
• 38:46
  They
• 38:46
  were
• 38:47
  just
• 38:47
  too
• 38:47
  old
• 38:47
  to
• 38:47
  travel
• 38:48
  at
• 38:49
  that
• 38:49
  point.
• 38:49
  So
• 38:50
  what
• 38:50
  happened
• 38:50
  was
• 38:50
  the
• 38:51
  Baseball
• 38:51
  hall
• 38:51
  of
• 38:52
  Fame's
• 38:52
  president,
• 38:53
  Josh
• 38:53
  Rawich,
• 38:55
  and
• 38:55
  the
• 38:56
  board
• 38:56
  chair,
• 38:57
  James
• 38:57
  Forbes
• 38:58
  Clark,
• 38:59
  they
• 39:00
  actually
• 39:00
  flew
• 39:01
  with
• 39:01
  the
• 39:02
  award
• 39:02
  on
• 39:03
  a
• 39:03
  little
• 39:03
  plane,
• 39:04
  a
• 39:04
  little
• 39:04
  private
• 39:04
  plane
• 39:05
  into
• 39:05
  Anderson
• 39:06
  and
• 39:06
  delivered
• 39:06
  it
• 39:07
  in
• 39:07
  person.
• 39:07
  Outstanding.
• 39:08
  And
• 39:09
  we
• 39:09
  were
• 39:09
  able
• 39:09
  to
• 39:09
  capture
• 39:10
  some
• 39:10
  of
• 39:10
  that
• 39:10
  for
• 39:11
  sort
• 39:11
  of
• 39:11
  a
• 39:11
  little
• 39:11
  addendum
• 39:12
  to
• 39:12
  the
• 39:12
  film.
• 39:12
  And
• 39:12
  that
• 39:13
  was
• 39:13
  just,
• 39:14
  it
• 39:15
  was
• 39:15
  just
• 39:15
  sort
• 39:15
  of
• 39:15
  one
• 39:15
  of
• 39:16
  those
• 39:16
  perfect
• 39:17
  moments.
• 39:17
  I
• 39:17
  mean,
• 39:18
  it's
• 39:18
  the
• 39:18
  perfect
• 39:18
  award.
• 39:18
  It
• 39:19
  was
• 39:19
  the
• 39:19
  biggest
• 39:19
  award
• 39:19
  Carl's
• 39:20
  ever
• 39:20
  won.
• 39:21
  When
• 39:21
  you
• 39:21
  first
• 39:21
  walk
• 39:21
  into
• 39:22
  the
• 39:22
  hall
• 39:22
  of
• 39:22
  Fame,
• 39:22
  the
• 39:23
  first
• 39:23
  exhibit
• 39:23
  you
• 39:23
  see
• 39:24
  is
• 39:24
  the
• 39:24
  Buck
• 39:24
  O'Neill
• 39:24
  Award.
• 39:25
  And
• 39:26
  it's
• 39:26
  just,
• 39:26
  I
• 39:26
  don't
• 39:26
  know,
• 39:27
  it's
• 39:27
  just
• 39:27
  really
• 39:28
  fitting.
• 39:28
  Well,
• 39:28
  that's,
• 39:29
  that's
• 39:29
  a
• 39:29
  great
• 39:29
  way
• 39:29
  to
• 39:30
  cap
• 39:30
  us
• 39:30
  off,
• 39:30
  Ted.
• 39:31
  I
• 39:31
  thank
• 39:31
  you
• 39:32
  for
• 39:32
  taking
• 39:32
  time
• 39:32
  out
• 39:33
  of
• 39:33
  your
• 39:33

• 39:33

• 39:33
  to
• 39:34

• 39:34
  it
• 39:34
  with

  actually,
• 42:09
  after

• 42:30
  from
• 42:31
  Major

• 42:32
  Now,
• 42:32
  the

• 42:33
  promoted
• 42:34
  Joe

• 42:36
  He
• 42:37
  was
• 42:37
  28
• 42:38
  years
• 42:38
  old
• 42:38
  because
• 42:39
  he
• 42:39
  played
• 42:39
  in
• 42:39
  the
• 42:39

• 42:40

• 42:40
  that.
• 42:41
  This
• 42:41
  was
• 42:42
  five
• 42:43
  years
• 42:43
  after
• 42:43
  Jackie
• 42:44
  Robinson

• 42:47
  Now,
• 42:47
  Joe
• 42:48
  roomed
• 42:48
  with
• 42:48
  Jackie
• 42:49
  while
• 42:49
  on
• 42:49
  the
• 42:49

• 42:50
  right,
• 42:50
  Martha?
• 42:51
  Yes,
• 42:52
  that
• 42:52
  is
• 42:52
  very
• 42:52
  correct.
• 42:53
  And
• 42:54
  what
• 42:54
  did
• 42:55
  give
• 42:55
  us
• 42:55
  a
• 42:55
  little
• 42:56
  synopsis
• 42:56
  on
• 42:57
  what
• 42:57
  Joe
• 42:58
  had
• 42:58
  to
• 42:58
  say
• 42:58
  about
• 42:58
  Jackie?
• 43:00
  Well,
• 43:00
  actually,
• 43:01
  growing
• 43:02
  up,
• 43:02
  my
• 43:02
  dad
• 43:02
  did
• 43:02
  not
• 43:03
  look
• 43:03
  like
• 43:03
  a
• 43:03
  baseball
• 43:03
  player
• 43:04
  at
• 43:04
  all
• 43:04
  when
• 43:04
  I
• 43:04
  was
• 43:04
  born.
• 43:05
  So
• 43:05
  he
• 43:06
  would
• 43:06
  tell
• 43:06
  me
• 43:06
  fun
• 43:07
  stories
• 43:08
  about
• 43:08
  he
• 43:08
  and
• 43:08
  Jackie.
• 43:09
  And
• 43:09
  he
• 43:10
  told
• 43:10
  me
• 43:10
  the
• 43:10
  story
• 43:10
  that
• 43:11
  when
• 43:12
  he
• 43:12
  first
• 43:12
  got
• 43:13
  to
• 43:14
  spring
• 43:14
  training
• 43:15
  in
• 43:15
  Vero
• 43:15
  beach,
• 43:16
  that
• 43:17
  they
• 43:17
  were
• 43:17
  like,
• 43:17
  oh,
• 43:18
  your
• 43:18
  room's
• 43:18
  right
• 43:18
  here.
• 43:19
  And
• 43:19
  then
• 43:19
  my
• 43:19
  dad's
• 43:19
  like,
• 43:20
  oh,
• 43:20
  that's
• 43:20
  great.
• 43:20
  They're
• 43:20
  like,
• 43:21
  oh
• 43:21
  yeah,
• 43:21
  and
• 43:21
  you're
• 43:21
  sharing
• 43:21
  with
• 43:22
  Jackie.
• 43:22
  And
• 43:23
  my
• 43:23
  dad's
• 43:23
  like,
• 43:23
  right,
• 43:24
  okay.
• 43:24
  So
• 43:25
  he
• 43:25
  stood
• 43:25
  there
• 43:26
  and
• 43:26
  did
• 43:26
  not
• 43:26
  put
• 43:26
  his
• 43:27
  bag
• 43:27
  down
• 43:27
  or
• 43:27
  anything.
• 43:28
  So
• 43:28
  Jackie
• 43:28
  walked
• 43:29
  in,
• 43:29
  he
• 43:29
  goes,
• 43:29
  oh,
• 43:29
  hi,
• 43:29
  I'm
• 43:30
  Jackie.
• 43:30
  My
• 43:30
  dad's
• 43:30
  like,
• 43:30
  hi,
• 43:31
  I'm
• 43:31
  Joe.
• 43:31
  He
• 43:31
  goes,
• 43:31
  why
• 43:31
  are
• 43:31
  you
• 43:32
  standing?
• 43:32
  Well,
• 43:32
  I
• 43:32
  need
• 43:32
  to
• 43:32
  know
• 43:33
  which
• 43:33
  bed
• 43:33
  you
• 43:33
  want
• 43:34
  because
• 43:34
  then
• 43:34
  I'm
• 43:34
  going
• 43:34
  to
• 43:34
  go
• 43:34
  to
• 43:34
  the
• 43:34
  other
• 43:35
  one.
• 43:35
  Jackie's
• 43:35
  like,
• 43:36
  take
• 43:36
  whichever
• 43:36
  one
• 43:36
  you
• 43:36
  want.
• 43:37
  We're
• 43:37
  here
• 43:37
  together.
• 43:39
  They
• 43:39
  had
• 43:39
  small
• 43:40
  conversation.
• 43:40
  And
• 43:40
  then
• 43:40
  Jackie
• 43:41
  was
• 43:41
  like,
• 43:41
  you
• 43:41
  know,
• 43:42
  cause
• 43:42
  you're
• 43:42
  a
• 43:42
  big
• 43:42
  guy.
• 43:42
  My
• 43:42
  dad
• 43:43
  was
• 43:43
  6,
• 43:43
  2
• 43:43
  and
• 43:44
  a
• 43:44
  half,
• 43:44
  215
• 43:45
  at
• 43:45
  the
• 43:45
  time.
• 43:46
  He's
• 43:46
  like,
• 43:46
  so
• 43:46
  do
• 43:46
  you
• 43:46
  know
• 43:46
  how
• 43:47
  to
• 43:47
  fight?
• 43:47
  My
• 43:47
  dad's
• 43:48
  like,
• 43:48
  heck,
• 43:48
  yeah,
• 43:48
  I
• 43:49
  know
• 43:49
  how
• 43:49
  to
• 43:49
  fight.
• 43:49
  He
• 43:49
  goes,
• 43:50
  that's
• 43:50
  good.
• 43:50
  That's
• 43:50
  good
• 43:51
  because
• 43:51
  we're
• 43:51
  not
• 43:51
  going
• 43:51
  to
• 43:51
  do
• 43:51
  that.
• 43:52
  My
• 43:52
  dad's
• 43:52
  like,
• 43:52
  what?
• 43:53
  He
• 43:53
  goes,
• 43:53
  we're
• 43:53
  not
• 43:53
  doing
• 43:53
  that
• 43:54
  because
• 43:54
  what
• 43:54
  we're
• 43:55
  doing
• 43:56
  is
• 43:56
  for
• 43:56
  more
• 43:56
  than
• 43:57
  just
• 43:57
  us.
• 43:57
  We
• 43:58
  have
• 43:58
  to
• 43:58
  show
• 43:59
  that
• 43:59
  we
• 43:59
  are
• 44:00
  here
• 44:00
  for
• 44:00
  the
• 44:00
  game
• 44:00
  and
• 44:01
  the
• 44:01
  game
• 44:01
  only.
• 44:01
  We
• 44:01
  are
• 44:01
  not
• 44:02
  here
• 44:02
  to
• 44:02
  fight,
• 44:03
  but
• 44:03
  we're
• 44:03
  good
• 44:04
  at
• 44:04
  what
• 44:04
  we
• 44:04
  do
• 44:05
  as
• 44:05
  playing
• 44:05
  baseball.
• 44:06
  And
• 44:07
  that
• 44:07
  was
• 44:07
  their
• 44:08
  first
• 44:08
  impression,
• 44:09
  and
• 44:09
  my
• 44:09
  dad
• 44:10
  did
• 44:11
  a
• 44:11
  lot.
• 44:11
  Second
• 44:12
  after
• 44:12
  Jackie
• 44:12
  died,
• 44:13
  my
• 44:13
  dad
• 44:13
  was
• 44:13
  with
• 44:13
  Rachel
• 44:14
  and
• 44:14
  Sharon
• 44:14
  Robinson
• 44:15
  and
• 44:15
  the
• 44:15
  Jackie
• 44:15
  Robinson
• 44:16
  foundation
• 44:16
  to
• 44:17
  do
• 44:17
  positive
• 44:18
  things
• 44:18
  for
• 44:19
  an
• 44:19
  honor
• 44:19
  of
• 44:19
  Jackie
• 44:20
  because
• 44:20
  he
• 44:20
  did
• 44:20
  so
• 44:21
  much
• 44:21
  for
• 44:21
  this
• 44:22
  country.
• 44:22
  Wonderful
• 44:23
  story,
• 44:23
  Martha.
• 44:24
  Yeah,
• 44:24
  thanks
• 44:25
  for
• 44:25
  relating
• 44:25
  that.
• 44:26
  We're
• 44:26
  speaking
• 44:26
  to
• 44:27
  Martha
• 44:27
  Black,
• 44:27
  the
• 44:28
  daughter
• 44:28
  of
• 44:28
  former
• 44:29
  Brooklyn
• 44:29
  Dodger
• 44:30
  pitcher
• 44:30
  Joe
• 44:30
  Black.
• 44:31
  Now,
• 44:31
  in
• 44:31
  addition
• 44:32
  to
• 44:32
  lobbying
• 44:32
  for
• 44:33
  black
• 44:34
  players,
• 44:35
  Joe
• 44:36
  remained
• 44:36
  in
• 44:36
  baseball
• 44:37
  after
• 44:38
  his
• 44:38
  career
• 44:38
  and
• 44:39
  worked
• 44:39
  in
• 44:39
  the
• 44:39
  commissioner's
• 44:40
  office.
• 44:41
  Yes,
• 44:43
  I
• 44:43
  believe
• 44:43
  it
• 44:43
  was
• 44:43
  Faye
• 44:44
  Vincent
• 44:44
  was
• 44:44
  a
• 44:44
  commissioner
• 44:45
  that
• 44:45
  my
• 44:45
  dad
• 44:46
  would
• 44:46
  do
• 44:47
  things
• 44:48
  with
• 44:48
  Fay
• 44:48
  and
• 44:49
  with
• 44:49
  MLB
• 44:50
  at
• 44:50
  the
• 44:50
  time,
• 44:50
  if
• 44:50
  you
• 44:51
  remember
• 44:51
  Major
• 44:51
  League
• 44:52
  Baseball
• 44:52
  had
• 44:53
  National
• 44:53
  American
• 44:53
  League
• 44:54
  president.
• 44:55
  There
• 44:56
  was
• 44:56
  not
• 44:56
  just
• 44:56
  one.
• 44:57
  And
• 44:57
  so
• 44:58
  my
• 44:58
  dad
• 44:58
  was
• 44:58
  with
• 44:59
  Len
• 44:59
  Coleman,
• 44:59
  who
• 44:59
  was
• 44:59
  a
• 45:00
  National
• 45:00
  League
• 45:00
  president
• 45:00
  a
• 45:00
  lot
• 45:01
  for
• 45:01
  like
• 45:02
  World
• 45:02
  Series
• 45:02
  games
• 45:02
  and
• 45:03
  different
• 45:03
  all
• 45:03
  Star
• 45:03
  games.
• 45:04
  And
• 45:04
  my
• 45:05
  dad
• 45:05
  being
• 45:06
  in
• 45:06
  the
• 45:06
  commissioner's
• 45:07
  office
• 45:07
  doing
• 45:08
  things
• 45:08
  that
• 45:09
  he
• 45:09
  also
• 45:09
  got
• 45:09
  to
• 45:10
  speak
• 45:10
  with
• 45:10
  current
• 45:10
  players
• 45:11
  that
• 45:11
  were
• 45:11
  playing
• 45:11
  at
• 45:11
  the
• 45:12
  time
• 45:12
  because
• 45:12
  I
• 45:12
  am,
• 45:13
  you
• 45:13
  know,
• 45:13
  older,
• 45:14
  like
• 45:15
  Ken
• 45:15
  Griffey
• 45:15
  Jr.
• 45:16
  So
• 45:16
  my
• 45:17
  dad,
• 45:17
  when
• 45:17
  Senior
• 45:18
  was
• 45:18
  even
• 45:18
  playing
• 45:18
  Griffey
• 45:19
  Senior,
• 45:19
  and
• 45:19
  he
• 45:19
  was
• 45:19
  like,
• 45:20
  you
• 45:20
  know,
• 45:20
  we
• 45:20
  need
• 45:20
  some
• 45:20
  money
• 45:21
  because
• 45:21
  we
• 45:21
  need
• 45:21
  to
• 45:21
  help
• 45:21
  some
• 45:22
  people.
• 45:22
  And
• 45:22
  that's
• 45:22
  how
• 45:23
  we
• 45:23
  raised
• 45:23
  money
• 45:23
  for
• 45:23
  bats,
• 45:24
  the
• 45:24
  baseball
• 45:25
  assistance
• 45:25
  team,
• 45:26
  and
• 45:27
  helped
• 45:27
  various
• 45:27
  people.
• 45:28
  And
• 45:28
  of
• 45:28
  course,
• 45:28
  anybody
• 45:29
  who
• 45:29
  ever
• 45:29
  met
• 45:29
  my
• 45:30
  father
• 45:30
  knew
• 45:31
  that
• 45:31
  you
• 45:31
  got
• 45:31
  a
• 45:31
  lecture
• 45:32
  or
• 45:32
  something.
• 45:32
  Somehow,
• 45:33
  regardless
• 45:33
  of
• 45:33
  how
• 45:33
  much
• 45:33
  money
• 45:34
  you
• 45:34
  made,
• 45:35
  he
• 45:35
  was
• 45:35
  like,
• 45:35
  so
• 45:35
  what
• 45:35
  are
• 45:35
  you
• 45:35
  going
• 45:36
  to
• 45:36
  do
• 45:36
  after
• 45:36
  baseball?
• 45:37
  What
• 45:37
  are
• 45:37
  you
• 45:37
  going
• 45:37
  to
• 45:37
  do?
• 45:38
  Because
• 45:38
  your
• 45:38
  body
• 45:38
  will
• 45:38
  not
• 45:38
  stay
• 45:39
  the
• 45:39
  same.
• 45:39
  Look
• 45:39
  at
• 45:39
  me,
• 45:39
  you
• 45:40
  know,
• 45:40
  and.
• 45:40
  And
• 45:40
  players
• 45:40
  are
• 45:41
  like,
• 45:41
  well,
• 45:41
  I
• 45:41
  think
• 45:41
  I
• 45:41
  want
• 45:42
  to
• 45:42
  do
• 45:42
  this.
• 45:42
  So
• 45:42
  my
• 45:42
  dad
• 45:43
  was
• 45:43
  trying
• 45:43
  to
• 45:43
  motivate
• 45:44
  players
• 45:45
  and
• 45:45
  even
• 45:46
  some
• 45:46
  coaches
• 45:46
  to
• 45:47
  do
• 45:47
  think
• 45:47
  of
• 45:47
  something
• 45:48
  that
• 45:48
  would
• 45:48
  happen
• 45:49
  after
• 45:49
  the
• 45:49
  game
• 45:50
  ended
• 45:50
  in
• 45:50
  their
• 45:50
  life.
• 45:51
  Fine.
• 45:52
  Yeah.
• 45:52
  What
• 45:52
  a
• 45:53
  great
• 45:53
  job
• 45:53
  that
• 45:53
  is.
• 45:54
  And
• 45:54
  I
• 45:54
  want
• 45:54
  to
• 45:54
  mention
• 45:55
  to
• 45:55
  people,
• 45:56
  Martha
• 45:56
  mentioned
• 45:57
  Faye
• 45:57
  Vincent,
• 45:58
  you
• 45:58
  kids,
• 45:58
  and
• 45:59
  you
• 45:59
  folks
• 45:59
  out
• 45:59
  there
• 46:00
  don't
• 46:00
  remember
• 46:00
  Fay
• 46:01
  Vincent.
• 46:02
  You've
• 46:02
  heard
• 46:02
  me
• 46:03
  speak
• 46:03
  about
• 46:03
  this
• 46:03
  before.
• 46:04
  Fay
• 46:04
  was
• 46:04
  the
• 46:05
  last
• 46:05
  true
• 46:06
  commissioner
• 46:06
  of
• 46:07
  Major
• 46:07
  League
• 46:07
  Baseball
• 46:09
  before
• 46:09
  other
• 46:10
  folks
• 46:10
  took
• 46:10
  over
• 46:10
  those
• 46:11
  reigns.
• 46:12
  He
• 46:12
  was
• 46:12
  a
• 46:13
  disciple
• 46:14
  of
• 46:14
  Bart
• 46:14
  Giamatti
• 46:15
  and
• 46:16
  a
• 46:16
  real
• 46:17
  great
• 46:17
  guy
• 46:18
  and
• 46:18
  the
• 46:18
  last
• 46:18
  true
• 46:18
  commissioner
• 46:19
  of
• 46:19
  Major
• 46:19
  League
• 46:20
  Baseball.
• 46:20
  I'll
• 46:20
  get
• 46:20
  off
• 46:20
  the
• 46:21
  pulpit
• 46:21
  now.
• 46:23
  Joe
• 46:24
  was
• 46:24
  a
• 46:25
  board
• 46:25
  director
• 46:25
  of
• 46:26
  BAT
• 46:26
  as
• 46:27
  well
• 46:27
  as
• 46:27
  the
• 46:28
  baseball
• 46:28
  assistant
• 46:29
  team.
• 46:29
  And
• 46:29
  he
• 46:29
  worked
• 46:30
  for
• 46:30
  the
• 46:30
  Diamondbacks.
• 46:32
  Yes,
• 46:32
  yes.
• 46:32
  So,
• 46:33
  as
• 46:33
  we
• 46:33
  know,
• 46:33
  the
• 46:34
  Diamondbacks
• 46:34
  were
• 46:35
  one
• 46:35
  of
• 46:35
  the
• 46:35
  last
• 46:35
  teams
• 46:35
  at
• 46:36
  the
• 46:36
  time
• 46:36
  to
• 46:36
  come
• 46:37
  into
• 46:37
  the
• 46:37
  league,
• 46:37
  and
• 46:37
  they
• 46:38
  were
• 46:38
  the
• 46:38
  fastest
• 46:38
  team
• 46:38
  to
• 46:39
  win
• 46:39
  a
• 46:39
  World
• 46:39
  Series
• 46:39
  game
• 46:40
  when
• 46:40
  they
• 46:40
  became
• 46:41
  a
• 46:41
  member
• 46:41
  of
• 46:41
  the
• 46:42
  family.
• 46:42
  And
• 46:43
  so,
• 46:43
  because
• 46:43
  I'm
• 46:43
  from
• 46:43
  Arizona,
• 46:44
  I
• 46:44
  grew
• 46:44
  up
• 46:44
  in
• 46:44
  Paradise
• 46:45
  Valley,
• 46:45
  Arizona.
• 46:46
  Kurt
• 46:46
  Schilling
• 46:46
  was
• 46:46
  a
• 46:47
  senior
• 46:47
  at
• 46:47
  Shadow
• 46:47
  Mountain
• 46:47
  High
• 46:48
  School
• 46:48
  when
• 46:48
  I
• 46:48
  was
• 46:48
  a
• 46:48
  freshman.
• 46:49
  Just
• 46:49
  some
• 46:49
  baseball.
• 46:50
  Wow.
• 46:52
  But,
• 46:53
  yeah,
• 46:53
  so
• 46:53
  my
• 46:54
  dad
• 46:54
  and
• 46:54
  Joe
• 46:54
  Gradually,
• 46:55
  Senior,
• 46:55
  he
• 46:56
  was
• 46:56
  there,
• 46:56
  too.
• 46:57
  They
• 46:57
  were
• 46:57
  like,
• 46:57
  you
• 46:57
  know,
• 46:57
  what
• 46:58
  are
• 46:58
  you
• 46:58
  guys
• 46:58
  going
• 46:58
  to
• 46:58
  do?
• 46:58
  How
• 46:58
  are
• 46:58
  you
• 46:58
  going
• 46:58
  to
• 46:58
  get
• 46:59
  people
• 46:59
  to
• 46:59
  understand
• 46:59
  baseball
• 47:00
  when
• 47:00
  Phoenix
• 47:01
  is
• 47:01
  spring
• 47:01
  training
• 47:02
  for
• 47:02
  most
• 47:02
  people
• 47:03
  there
• 47:04
  or
• 47:04
  Florida?
• 47:05
  And
• 47:05
  they
• 47:05
  were
• 47:05
  like,
• 47:05
  well,
• 47:06
  we
• 47:06
  don't
• 47:06
  know.
• 47:06
  They're
• 47:06
  like,
• 47:06
  well,
• 47:06
  we'll
• 47:06
  walk
• 47:07
  around.
• 47:07
  So
• 47:07
  my
• 47:08
  dad
• 47:08
  and
• 47:08
  graduate
• 47:09
  senior
• 47:10
  would
• 47:10
  go
• 47:10
  and
• 47:10
  talk
• 47:10
  to
• 47:11
  people
• 47:11
  and
• 47:11
  make
• 47:12
  them
• 47:12
  understand,
• 47:12
  no,
• 47:13
  this
• 47:13
  is
• 47:13
  going
• 47:13
  to
• 47:13
  be
• 47:13
  81
• 47:14
  games.
• 47:14
  This
• 47:14
  is
• 47:14
  not
• 47:14
  spring
• 47:14
  training.
• 47:15
  This
• 47:15
  is
• 47:15
  real.
• 47:16
  This
• 47:16
  is
• 47:17
  real
• 47:17
  baseball.
• 47:17
  And
• 47:18
  now
• 47:18
  we
• 47:18
  know
• 47:18
  the
• 47:18
  Diamondbacks.
• 47:19
  Beautiful
• 47:19
  ballpark.
• 47:20
  Anybody
• 47:21
  that
• 47:21
  goes
• 47:21
  there,
• 47:21
  please
• 47:22
  walk
• 47:22
  around.
• 47:22
  I've
• 47:23
  seen
• 47:23
  other
• 47:23
  pictures
• 47:24
  there,
• 47:24
  haven't
• 47:24
  gone
• 47:25
  since
• 47:25
  my
• 47:25
  dad
• 47:25
  passed
• 47:26
  away,
• 47:27
  that
• 47:27
  my
• 47:27
  dad's
• 47:27
  name
• 47:28
  is
• 47:28
  quite
• 47:29
  prevalent
• 47:29
  in
• 47:30
  the
• 47:30
  ballpark.
• 47:30
  So
• 47:31
  it's
• 47:31
  kind
• 47:31
  of
• 47:31
  nice
• 47:31
  that
• 47:32
  they
• 47:32
  give
• 47:32
  my
• 47:32
  dad
• 47:32
  a
• 47:33
  lot
• 47:33
  of
• 47:33
  respect
• 47:33
  for
• 47:33
  the
• 47:34
  things
• 47:34
  that
• 47:34
  he
• 47:34
  did.
• 47:34
  He
• 47:34
  and
• 47:35
  Mr.
• 47:35
  Gragiola,
• 47:35
  that
• 47:36
  is.
• 47:36
  Yeah,
• 47:37
  I
• 47:37
  know
• 47:37
  Joe
• 47:38
  Jr.
• 47:38
  Worked
• 47:38
  for
• 47:38
  the
• 47:39
  Diamondbacks.
• 47:40
  I
• 47:40
  wasn't
• 47:40
  aware
• 47:40
  that
• 47:40
  Joe
• 47:41
  Senior
• 47:41
  had
• 47:42
  had
• 47:42
  a
• 47:42
  hand
• 47:42
  in
• 47:43
  the.
• 47:43
  In
• 47:44
  the
• 47:44
  pie
• 47:44
  as
• 47:44
  well.
• 47:45
  And
• 47:46
  interesting
• 47:46
  that
• 47:46
  him
• 47:46
  and
• 47:47
  Joe
• 47:47
  teamed
• 47:47
  up
• 47:47
  for
• 47:48
  that
• 47:48
  very
• 47:49
  worthwhile
• 47:50
  work
• 47:50
  they
• 47:51
  were
• 47:51
  doing
• 47:51
  there.
• 47:52
  And
• 47:52
  if
• 47:53
  Martha
• 47:53
  is
• 47:54
  right,
• 47:54
  folks,
• 47:55
  check
• 47:55
  out.
• 47:56
  I
• 47:57
  think
• 47:57
  it's
• 47:57
  called
• 47:57
  Bank
• 47:58
  One
• 47:58
  these
• 47:58
  days.
• 47:58
  I'm
• 47:59
  not
• 47:59
  sure.
• 48:00
  Ballpark.
• 48:01
  Yeah.
• 48:01
  You
• 48:01
  never
• 48:01
  know
• 48:02
  these
• 48:02
  days,
• 48:02
  Martha,
• 48:02
  the
• 48:02
  way
• 48:03
  these
• 48:03
  corporates.
• 48:03
  No,
• 48:04
  that's
• 48:04
  true.
• 48:04
  Sponsorship
• 48:06
  money's
• 48:06
  king.
• 48:07
  Sling
• 48:07
  the
• 48:07
  money
• 48:08
  around.
• 48:08
  Yeah.
• 48:09
  Joe
• 48:10
  Black's
• 48:10
  name
• 48:10
  is
• 48:11
  prominent
• 48:11
  out
• 48:12
  there
• 48:12
  in
• 48:12
  the
• 48:13
  desert.
• 48:13
  So
• 48:14
  check
• 48:14
  that
• 48:14
  out
• 48:15
  before
• 48:15
  you
• 48:16
  go
• 48:16
  in
• 48:16
  the
• 48:16
  pool.
• 48:17
  But
• 48:18
  definitely
• 48:18
  go
• 48:18
  in
• 48:19
  the
• 48:19
  pool.
• 48:20
  That's
• 48:21
  something
• 48:21
  that
• 48:21
  should
• 48:21
  be
• 48:21
  done.
• 48:22
  And
• 48:22
  keep
• 48:22
  in
• 48:22
  mind,
• 48:22
  when
• 48:22
  it's
• 48:23
  100
• 48:23
  during
• 48:23
  the
• 48:23
  summer,
• 48:24
  they
• 48:24
  do
• 48:24
  close
• 48:25
  the
• 48:25
  roof
• 48:25
  and
• 48:25
  the
• 48:25
  air
• 48:26
  conditioning
• 48:26
  is
• 48:26
  on.
• 48:27
  Yeah.
• 48:27
  You
• 48:27
  don't
• 48:27
  feel
• 48:28
  so
• 48:28
  bad.
• 48:28
  Right?
• 48:29
  Right.
• 48:30
  That
• 48:30
  is
• 48:30
  true.
• 48:31
  Now,
• 48:31
  Years
• 48:32
  afterwards,
• 48:33
  Peter
• 48:33
  O'Malley
• 48:34
  gave
• 48:35
  Joe
• 48:36
  a
• 48:37
  1955
• 48:37
  championship
• 48:38
  ring,
• 48:39
  which
• 48:39
  I
• 48:39
  Thought
• 48:39
  was
• 48:40
  a
• 48:40
  pretty
• 48:40
  magnanimous
• 48:41
  thing.
• 48:42
  Yes.
• 48:43
  My
• 48:44
  dad
• 48:44
  was
• 48:44
  with
• 48:45
  the
• 48:45
  Dodgers
• 48:45
  in
• 48:45
  55.
• 48:46
  He
• 48:47
  got
• 48:47
  traded
• 48:47
  to
• 48:47
  the
• 48:47
  Cincinnati
• 48:48
  Red
• 48:49
  Legs
• 48:49
  because,
• 48:49
  remember,
• 48:49
  the
• 48:50
  United
• 48:50
  States
• 48:50
  have
• 48:50
  a
• 48:51
  problem
• 48:51
  with
• 48:51
  Russia
• 48:51
  at
• 48:52
  that
• 48:52
  time,
• 48:52
  too.
• 48:52
  Oh,
• 48:53
  goodness.
• 48:53
  Right.
• 48:54
  And
• 48:54
  that's
• 48:55
  why
• 48:55
  they
• 48:55
  work
• 48:55
  all
• 48:55
  the
• 48:55
  Red
• 48:56
  Legs.
• 48:56
  But
• 48:56
  my
• 48:56
  dad
• 48:56
  was
• 48:57
  traded
• 48:57
  to
• 48:57
  them.
• 48:58
  And
• 48:59
  so
• 48:59
  he
• 48:59
  was
• 49:00
  there
• 49:00
  in
• 49:00
  the
• 49:00
  beginning,
• 49:00
  but
• 49:01
  not.
• 49:01
  Was
• 49:01
  not
• 49:01
  there
• 49:02
  at
• 49:02
  the
• 49:02
  end
• 49:02
  when
• 49:02
  they
• 49:02
  did
• 49:03
  win
• 49:04
  the
• 49:04
  ring
• 49:04
  that
• 49:05
  every
• 49:05
  Major
• 49:05
  League
• 49:06
  baseball
• 49:06
  player
• 49:06
  wants.
• 49:07
  And
• 49:08
  so
• 49:08
  Peter
• 49:08
  and
• 49:09
  the
• 49:09
  O'Malley
• 49:09
  family,
• 49:09
  because
• 49:10
  they
• 49:10
  love
• 49:10
  my
• 49:10
  father
• 49:11
  so
• 49:11
  much
• 49:11
  that
• 49:11
  they
• 49:11
  were
• 49:12
  like,
• 49:12
  you
• 49:12
  know
• 49:12
  what?
• 49:12
  You
• 49:12
  were
• 49:12
  part
• 49:12
  of
• 49:12
  this.
• 49:13
  You're
• 49:13
  part
• 49:13
  of
• 49:13
  our
• 49:13
  family.
• 49:14
  Because
• 49:15
  I
• 49:15
  do
• 49:15
  know
• 49:16
  from
• 49:17
  my
• 49:17
  dad
• 49:17
  and
• 49:18
  get
• 49:18
  stories
• 49:18
  that
• 49:19
  it
• 49:19
  was
• 49:19
  a
• 49:20
  family.
• 49:20
  I
• 49:20
  think
• 49:20
  that's
• 49:21
  why
• 49:21
  my
• 49:21
  dad,
• 49:22
  which
• 49:23
  I
• 49:23
  was
• 49:23
  not
• 49:23
  looking
• 49:23
  for
• 49:24
  it
• 49:24
  was
• 49:24
  like,
• 49:24
  you
• 49:25
  need
• 49:25
  to
• 49:25
  work
• 49:25
  for
• 49:25
  a
• 49:25
  baseball
• 49:26
  team.
• 49:26
  And
• 49:26
  I
• 49:26
  was
• 49:26
  like,
• 49:26
  yeah,
• 49:27
  okay.
• 49:28
  And
• 49:29
  he
• 49:30
  found
• 49:30
  out
• 49:31
  that
• 49:31
  Jerry
• 49:32
  Reinsdorf,
• 49:32
  who
• 49:32
  is
• 49:33
  my
• 49:33
  big
• 49:33
  boss
• 49:34
  at
• 49:34
  the
• 49:34
  Chicago
• 49:35
  White
• 49:35
  Sox,
• 49:35
  was
• 49:36
  a
• 49:36
  Brooklyn
• 49:36
  Dodger
• 49:37
  fan.
• 49:37
  And
• 49:38
  they
• 49:38
  ended
• 49:38
  up
• 49:39
  meeting
• 49:39
  and
• 49:39
  becoming
• 49:40
  friends.
• 49:40
  And
• 49:40
  so
• 49:41
  when
• 49:41
  I
• 49:42
  got
• 49:42
  out
• 49:42
  of
• 49:42
  college,
• 49:43
  he
• 49:43
  sent
• 49:43
  Jerry,
• 49:44
  as
• 49:44
  well
• 49:44
  as
• 49:45
  Ted
• 49:45
  Turner,
• 49:46
  my
• 49:46
  resume.
• 49:47
  And
• 49:47
  I
• 49:47
  say
• 49:47
  that
• 49:48
  in
• 49:48
  a
• 49:48
  loving
• 49:48
  way.
• 49:49
  I
• 49:49
  went
• 49:49
  to
• 49:50
  school,
• 49:50
  I
• 49:51
  worked
• 49:51
  at
• 49:51
  Saks
• 49:52
  because
• 49:52
  I
• 49:52
  wanted
• 49:52
  a
• 49:53
  discount.
• 49:54
  And
• 49:55
  I
• 49:55
  worked
• 49:55
  at
• 49:55
  the
• 49:56
  corporation,
• 49:56
  Greyhound
• 49:56
  Corporation,
• 49:57
  where
• 49:57
  my
• 49:57
  dad
• 49:58
  worked
• 49:58
  because
• 49:58
  VP's
• 49:59
  kids
• 49:59
  could
• 49:59
  work
• 49:59
  there.
• 49:59
  And
• 50:00
  that
• 50:00
  was
• 50:00
  fun.
• 50:00
  And
• 50:01
  I
• 50:01
  did
• 50:01
  that.
• 50:01
  And
• 50:01
  I
• 50:01
  said,
• 50:02
  well,
• 50:02
  what
• 50:02
  resume?
• 50:02
  My
• 50:02
  dad
• 50:03
  said,
• 50:03
  don't
• 50:03
  worry
• 50:03
  about
• 50:03
  it,
• 50:03
  kid.
• 50:03
  I
• 50:04
  got
• 50:04
  it.
• 50:04
  So,
• 50:04
  yeah,
• 50:05
  I've
• 50:05
  been
• 50:06
  with
• 50:06
  the
• 50:06
  White
• 50:06
  fox
• 50:07
  for
• 50:07
  over
• 50:07
  27
• 50:08
  years.
• 50:09
  But
• 50:10
  that's
• 50:10
  the
• 50:10
  family
• 50:11
  that
• 50:11
  my
• 50:11
  dad
• 50:11
  knew
• 50:12
  baseball
• 50:12
  would
• 50:12
  always
• 50:13
  give
• 50:13
  you
• 50:13
  love,
• 50:14
  because
• 50:14
  that's
• 50:14
  what
• 50:14
  baseball
• 50:15
  was.
• 50:16
  And
• 50:16
  you've
• 50:16
  received
• 50:17
  it,
• 50:17
  that's
• 50:17
  for
• 50:17
  sure.
• 50:18
  Martha
• 50:18
  Black
• 50:19
  with
• 50:19
  us
• 50:19
  tonight
• 50:20
  on
• 50:20
  the
• 50:20
  program
• 50:20
  Daughter
• 50:21
  of
• 50:21
  Joe.
• 50:22
  And
• 50:23
  it's
• 50:24
  funny
• 50:24
  how
• 50:24
  all
• 50:24
  our
• 50:25
  guests
• 50:25
  tonight
• 50:26
  are
• 50:27
  intertwined
• 50:28
  not
• 50:28
  only
• 50:28
  by
• 50:28
  the
• 50:28
  New
• 50:28
  York
• 50:29
  State
• 50:29
  Baseball
• 50:29
  hall
• 50:30
  of
• 50:30
  Fame,
• 50:30
  but
• 50:31
  through
• 50:31
  other
• 50:31
  projects.
• 50:32
  Just
• 50:32
  before
• 50:32
  you,
• 50:33
  Martha,
• 50:33
  was
• 50:33
  Ted
• 50:33
  Green,
• 50:34
  who
• 50:35
  produced
• 50:36
  the
• 50:36
  wonderful
• 50:37
  documentary
• 50:38
  on
• 50:38
  Carl
• 50:39
  Erskine.
• 50:39
  And
• 50:39
  he
• 50:39
  mentioned
• 50:40
  that
• 50:40
  Jerry
• 50:40
  Reinsdorf
• 50:41
  had
• 50:42
  called
• 50:42
  him
• 50:42
  about
• 50:43
  that
• 50:43
  project
• 50:44
  and
• 50:44
  gave
• 50:45
  him
• 50:45
  some
• 50:45
  kudos
• 50:45
  on
• 50:46
  that
• 50:46
  film,
• 50:47
  but
• 50:47
  he
• 50:47
  mentioned
• 50:47
  Jerry
• 50:48
  as
• 50:48
  well.
• 50:48
  So
• 50:48
  I
• 50:49
  just
• 50:49
  wanted
• 50:49
  to
• 50:49
  let
• 50:49
  you
• 50:49
  know
• 50:50
  that
• 50:51
  now
• 50:52
  the
• 50:52
  Arizona
• 50:53
  Fall
• 50:53
  League
• 50:53
  people
• 50:54
  know
• 50:54
  that
• 50:55
  that
• 50:55
  begins
• 50:55
  after
• 50:56
  the
• 50:56
  Major
• 50:56
  League
• 50:56
  Baseball
• 50:57
  season.
• 50:57
  The
• 50:57
  MVP
• 50:58
  award
• 50:59
  is
• 50:59
  named
• 50:59
  for
• 50:59
  Joe
• 51:00
  Black.
• 51:01
  Yes.
• 51:01
  And
• 51:01
  that
• 51:01
  was
• 51:02
  my
• 51:02
  first
• 51:02
  job
• 51:03
  after
• 51:03
  school
• 51:03
  working
• 51:04
  for
• 51:04
  the
• 51:04
  Arizona
• 51:04
  Follicle.
• 51:05
  Okay.
• 51:06
  Yeah.
• 51:07
  So
• 51:07
  Mike
• 51:07
  Port
• 51:08
  at
• 51:08
  the
• 51:08
  time
• 51:08
  that
• 51:08
  I
• 51:09
  believe
• 51:09
  was
• 51:09
  with
• 51:09
  the
• 51:09
  Angels
• 51:10
  previously.
• 51:11
  So
• 51:11
  that
• 51:11
  was
• 51:12
  1992,
• 51:13
  that
• 51:13
  the
• 51:13
  Arizona
• 51:14
  Falling,
• 51:14
  which
• 51:14
  was
• 51:15
  run
• 51:15
  by
• 51:15
  Major
• 51:15
  League
• 51:16
  Baseball
• 51:16
  then
• 51:17
  started,
• 51:17
  because
• 51:18
  they're
• 51:18
  like
• 51:18
  well,
• 51:18
  not
• 51:19
  a
• 51:19
  lot
• 51:19
  of
• 51:19
  players
• 51:19
  went
• 51:19
  to
• 51:20
  Cuba,
• 51:20
  right,
• 51:20
  to
• 51:21
  play
• 51:21
  Winter
• 51:22
  League,
• 51:22
  and
• 51:22
  they're
• 51:22
  like,
• 51:22
  well,
• 51:23
  we
• 51:23
  should
• 51:23
  do
• 51:23
  something
• 51:23
  here.
• 51:24
  So
• 51:24
  that's
• 51:24
  how
• 51:24
  the
• 51:24
  Arizona
• 51:25
  folly
• 51:25
  came
• 51:26
  to
• 51:26
  fruition.
• 51:27
  And
• 51:28
  after
• 51:28
  my
• 51:29
  dad
• 51:30
  helped
• 51:30
  me
• 51:30
  get
• 51:30
  the
• 51:31
  job
• 51:31
  there,
• 51:31
  and
• 51:31
  then
• 51:31
  I
• 51:31
  went
• 51:31
  to
• 51:31
  the
• 51:32
  White
• 51:32
  Sox
• 51:33
  that
• 51:33
  they
• 51:34
  respected
• 51:34
  and
• 51:35
  loved
• 51:35
  my
• 51:35
  dad
• 51:35
  so
• 51:35
  much
• 51:36
  that
• 51:37
  they
• 51:38
  ended
• 51:38
  up
• 51:39
  giving
• 51:39
  him
• 51:39
  the
• 51:39
  MVP
• 51:40
  award.
• 51:40
  And
• 51:41
  a
• 51:42
  few
• 51:42
  players
• 51:42
  have
• 51:43
  gotten
• 51:43
  it,
• 51:43
  and
• 51:44
  they've
• 51:44
  lasted
• 51:45
  a
• 51:45
  little
• 51:45
  bit
• 51:46
  in
• 51:46
  the
• 51:46
  majors.
• 51:48
  But,
• 51:48
  yeah,
• 51:48
  I
• 51:48
  mean,
• 51:49
  it's
• 51:49
  very
• 51:49
  nice
• 51:50
  recognition
• 51:51
  that.
• 51:51
  And
• 51:52
  I
• 51:52
  say
• 51:52
  this,
• 51:52
  I'm
• 51:53
  not
• 51:53
  married
• 51:53
  and
• 51:53
  I
• 51:53
  don't
• 51:53
  have
• 51:53
  any
• 51:54
  children,
• 51:54
  that
• 51:55
  when
• 51:55
  I
• 51:56
  am
• 51:56
  no
• 51:56
  longer
• 51:56
  here,
• 51:57
  that
• 51:57
  hopefully
• 51:57
  my
• 51:58
  dad
• 51:58
  will
• 51:58
  never
• 51:58
  be
• 51:58
  forgotten.
• 51:59
  No,
• 52:00
  his
• 52:00
  name
• 52:00
  will
• 52:00
  live
• 52:01
  on.
• 52:01
  You're
• 52:01
  exactly
• 52:01
  right,
• 52:02
  Martha.
• 52:03
  Martha
• 52:03
  Black
• 52:03
  with
• 52:04
  us
• 52:04
  tonight.
• 52:04
  And
• 52:05
  I
• 52:05
  just
• 52:05
  checked
• 52:06
  my
• 52:06
  note.
• 52:07
  The
• 52:07
  plaque
• 52:07
  honoring
• 52:08
  Joe
• 52:08
  Black
• 52:09
  that's
• 52:09
  out
• 52:09
  at
• 52:09
  the
• 52:09
  Diamondbacks
• 52:10
  ballpark
• 52:11
  is
• 52:11
  with
• 52:11
  all
• 52:11
  the
• 52:11
  championship
• 52:12
  and
• 52:12
  retired
• 52:13
  numbers.
• 52:14
  So
• 52:14
  check
• 52:14
  that
• 52:14
  out,
• 52:15
  folks.
• 52:15
  Again,
• 52:16
  Joe
• 52:16
  Black
• 52:16
  lives
• 52:17
  on.
• 52:17
  Now,
• 52:18
  beginning
• 52:18
  in
• 52:18
  2010,
• 52:19
  Martha,
• 52:20
  the
• 52:21
  Washington
• 52:21
  Nationals
• 52:22
  have
• 52:23
  presented
• 52:23
  the
• 52:23
  Joe
• 52:24
  Black
• 52:24
  Award
• 52:25
  to
• 52:25
  a
• 52:25
  Washington
• 52:26
  area
• 52:26
  organization
• 52:28
  chosen
• 52:28
  for
• 52:28
  its
• 52:29
  work
• 52:29
  promoting
• 52:30
  baseball
• 52:30
  in
• 52:31
  the
• 52:31
  African
• 52:31
  American
• 52:32
  communities.
• 52:32
  What
• 52:33
  a
• 52:33
  great
• 52:33
  award
• 52:34
  that
• 52:34
  is.
• 52:35
  No,
• 52:35
  that
• 52:35
  is
• 52:36
  wonderful
• 52:36
  because
• 52:36
  my
• 52:37
  dad
• 52:37
  played
• 52:37
  for
• 52:37
  the
• 52:37
  Washington
• 52:38
  Red
• 52:38
  Legs,
• 52:38
  as
• 52:38
  I
• 52:39
  mentioned.
• 52:39
  And
• 52:40
  in
• 52:40
  2010,
• 52:41
  they
• 52:41
  invited
• 52:42
  my
• 52:42
  family,
• 52:43
  myself,
• 52:43
  my
• 52:44
  brother,
• 52:44
  my
• 52:44
  Aunt
• 52:44
  Phil,
• 52:44
  my
• 52:45
  dad's
• 52:45
  sister,
• 52:45
  she
• 52:46
  was
• 52:46
  still
• 52:46
  with
• 52:46
  us
• 52:47
  there
• 52:47
  to
• 52:47
  give
• 52:48
  this
• 52:48
  award
• 52:49
  because
• 52:49
  my
• 52:50
  dad
• 52:50
  was
• 52:50
  the
• 52:50
  first
• 52:51
  African
• 52:51
  American
• 52:52
  player
• 52:52
  to
• 52:53
  play
• 52:53
  with
• 52:53
  the
• 52:53
  original
• 52:54
  team.
• 52:55
  They
• 52:55
  had
• 52:55
  a
• 52:55
  Cuban
• 52:56
  previously,
• 52:57
  but
• 52:57
  my
• 52:57
  dad
• 52:57
  was
• 52:57
  the
• 52:57
  first
• 52:58
  American
• 52:58
  black
• 52:59
  that
• 52:59
  played
• 52:59
  with
• 52:59
  the
• 52:59
  team.
• 53:00
  And
• 53:00
  that's
• 53:00
  why
• 53:01
  they
• 53:01
  wanted
• 53:01
  to
• 53:02
  honor
• 53:02
  my
• 53:02
  father
• 53:03
  and
• 53:03
  help
• 53:03
  people
• 53:04
  in
• 53:04
  the
• 53:04
  community
• 53:05
  that
• 53:05
  are
• 53:05
  trying
• 53:06
  to
• 53:06
  keep
• 53:06
  the
• 53:07
  game
• 53:07
  alive
• 53:08
  in
• 53:08
  the
• 53:08
  black
• 53:08
  community,
• 53:09
  which
• 53:09
  I
• 53:09
  appreciate
• 53:10
  a
• 53:10
  lot.
• 53:10
  Right.
• 53:11
  The
• 53:11
  award,
• 53:11
  as
• 53:12
  I
• 53:12
  said,
• 53:12
  folks,
• 53:13
  recognizes
• 53:14
  Joe
• 53:14
  Black
• 53:14
  as
• 53:14
  the
• 53:14
  first
• 53:15
  African
• 53:15
  American
• 53:16
  player
• 53:16
  on
• 53:17
  the
• 53:17
  Washington
• 53:17
  Ball
• 53:18
  Club.
• 53:18
  And
• 53:19
  certainly
• 53:20
  great
• 53:20
  recognition
• 53:21
  for
• 53:21
  Joe
• 53:22
  there.
• 53:23
  Now
• 53:23
  2010,
• 53:24
  locally
• 53:25
  in
• 53:25
  Jersey,
• 53:26
  Martha,
• 53:27
  they
• 53:27
  named
• 53:27
  the
• 53:27
  Plainfield
• 53:28
  High
• 53:28
  School
• 53:29
  baseball
• 53:30
  complex
• 53:30
  after
• 53:30
  your
• 53:31
  dad
• 53:31
  as
• 53:31
  well.
• 53:32
  Yes,
• 53:33
  my
• 53:33
  dad
• 53:34
  went
• 53:34
  there,
• 53:34
  he
• 53:35
  taught
• 53:35
  there,
• 53:35
  my
• 53:36
  cousins,
• 53:36
  my
• 53:36
  aunt,
• 53:37
  children
• 53:38
  were
• 53:39
  very
• 53:39
  instrumental
• 53:40
  in
• 53:40
  getting
• 53:40
  that
• 53:40
  done,
• 53:41
  because
• 53:41
  they're
• 53:41
  like,
• 53:41
  okay.
• 53:42
  They
• 53:42
  called
• 53:42
  him
• 53:42
  Uncle
• 53:42
  Sonny.
• 53:43
  That
• 53:43
  was
• 53:43
  my
• 53:43
  dad's
• 53:43
  nickname.
• 53:44
  He
• 53:45
  did
• 53:45
  so
• 53:45
  much
• 53:45
  for
• 53:46
  them
• 53:46
  and
• 53:46
  for
• 53:47
  Plainfield,
• 53:47
  New
• 53:47
  Jersey,
• 53:48
  that
• 53:48
  they're
• 53:49
  like,
• 53:49
  well,
• 53:49
  we
• 53:49
  want
• 53:50
  his
• 53:50
  name
• 53:50
  to
• 53:50
  be
• 53:51
  recognized
• 53:51
  here
• 53:51
  as
• 53:51
  well.
• 53:52
  So
• 53:52
  they
• 53:52
  did
• 53:53
  all
• 53:53
  the
• 53:53
  work
• 53:54
  in
• 53:54
  getting
• 53:54
  that
• 53:54
  done.
• 53:55
  And
• 53:55
  my
• 53:56
  brother
• 53:56
  and
• 53:56
  I
• 53:56
  are
• 53:56
  so
• 53:56
  appreciative
• 53:57
  of
• 53:57
  that.
• 53:58
  Neither
• 53:58
  one
• 53:58
  of

• 54:01
  My
• 54:01
  brother's
• 54:02
  in
• 54:02
  Arizona
• 54:02
  still,
• 54:02
  and
• 54:03
  I
• 54:03
  live
• 54:03
  in
• 54:03
  Chicago,
• 54:04
  and
• 54:04
  they
• 54:05
  did
• 54:05
  that,
• 54:05
  and
• 54:05
  we
• 54:06
  were
• 54:06
  extremely
• 54:07
  proud.
• 54:07
  And
• 54:08
  it
• 54:08
  was
• 54:08
  a
• 54:09
  wonderful
• 54:09
  tribute
• 54:10
  that
• 54:11
  my
• 54:11
  dad's
• 54:11
  hometown
• 54:11
  did
• 54:12
  for
• 54:12
  him.
• 54:12
  Yeah,
• 54:13
  I
• 54:13
  can
• 54:13
  imagine
• 54:14
  going
• 54:14
  to
• 54:15
  school
• 54:15
  and
• 54:15
  having
• 54:15
  Joe
• 54:16
  Black
• 54:16
  as
• 54:16
  your
• 54:16
  gym
• 54:17
  teacher.
• 54:18
  Imagine
• 54:18
  that,
• 54:18
  kids.
• 54:19
  Yeah,
• 54:19
  he
• 54:19
  had
• 54:19
  some
• 54:19
  cool
• 54:20
  students
• 54:20
  that
• 54:20
  remembered
• 54:21
  that
• 54:21
  one
• 54:21
  of
• 54:21
  them
• 54:21
  wrote
• 54:22
  a
• 54:22
  book
• 54:22
  about
• 54:22
  him.
• 54:22
  So.
• 54:22
  Yeah.
• 54:23
  Really?
• 54:24
  Oh,
• 54:24
  what
• 54:25
  a
• 54:25
  great
• 54:25
  tribute.
• 54:26
  Yeah.
• 54:26
  That
• 54:27
  Seltzer,
• 54:28
  he's
• 54:28
  an
• 54:28
  attorney
• 54:29
  or
• 54:29
  probably
• 54:30
  retired
• 54:30
  now.
• 54:31
  He
• 54:31
  wrote
• 54:31
  a
• 54:32
  book
• 54:32
  about
• 54:32
  my
• 54:33
  father.
• 54:33
  He
• 54:33
  and
• 54:33
  my
• 54:33
  dad
• 54:34
  were
• 54:34
  very
• 54:34
  close.
• 54:35
  And,
• 54:36
  you
• 54:36
  know,
• 54:37
  it
• 54:37
  was
• 54:37
  nice
• 54:37
  because
• 54:38
  it's
• 54:38
  very
• 54:38
  ironic
• 54:39
  that
• 54:39
  I.
• 54:40
  As
• 54:40
  you
• 54:40
  know,
• 54:41
  you
• 54:41
  and
• 54:41
  I
• 54:41
  are
• 54:41
  connected
• 54:41
  now
• 54:41
  on
• 54:42
  social
• 54:42
  media.
• 54:42
  So
• 54:43
  there's
• 54:43
  so
• 54:43
  many
• 54:43
  other
• 54:44
  people
• 54:44
  on
• 54:44
  social
• 54:44
  media
• 54:45
  that
• 54:45
  are
• 54:45
  older
• 54:45
  than
• 54:45
  I
• 54:46
  am,
• 54:46
  and
• 54:46
  they
• 54:47
  went
• 54:47
  to
• 54:47
  Hubbard
• 54:47
  and
• 54:47
  they're
• 54:47
  like,
• 54:48
  oh,
• 54:48
  I
• 54:48
  know
• 54:48
  your
• 54:48
  dad.
• 54:48
  And
• 54:49
  I
• 54:49
  was
• 54:49
  like,
• 54:49
  oh,
• 54:49
  that's
• 54:50
  great.
• 54:50
  You
• 54:50
  know,
• 54:51
  I'm
• 54:51
  like.
• 54:51
  And
• 54:51
  they
• 54:52
  are
• 54:53
  all
• 54:53
  extremely
• 54:54
  doing
• 54:54
  great
• 54:55
  in
• 54:55
  life.
• 54:56
  I
• 54:56
  mean,
• 54:56
  from
• 54:57
  sports
• 54:57
  writers
• 54:58
  to
• 54:59
  attorneys
• 54:59
  and
• 54:59
  everything.
• 55:00
  And
• 55:00
  I
• 55:00
  was
• 55:00
  like,
• 55:00
  wow.
• 55:00
  I
• 55:00
  guess
• 55:01
  my
• 55:01
  dad,
• 55:01
  he
• 55:02
  had
• 55:02
  some
• 55:03
  good
• 55:03
  stuff
• 55:03
  happen
• 55:04
  with
• 55:04
  people,
• 55:04
  and
• 55:04
  he
• 55:05
  brought
• 55:05
  some
• 55:05
  people
• 55:05
  up,
• 55:05
  and
• 55:06
  he
• 55:06
  would
• 55:06
  always
• 55:06
  be
• 55:07
  the
• 55:07
  cheerleader
• 55:07
  for
• 55:07
  anybody.
• 55:08
  It's
• 55:08
  like,
• 55:08
  anything
• 55:08
  you
• 55:08
  want
• 55:09
  to
• 55:09
  do,
• 55:09
  you
• 55:09
  can
• 55:09
  do
• 55:09
  it.
• 55:10
  You
• 55:10
  just
• 55:10
  don't
• 55:10
  ever
• 55:11
  stop
• 55:11
  believing
• 55:11
  in
• 55:11
  what
• 55:11
  you
• 55:12
  can
• 55:12
  do.
• 55:12
  I
• 55:13
  guess
• 55:13
  my
• 55:13
  first
• 55:14
  exposure
• 55:14
  to
• 55:15
  Joe
• 55:15
  Black
• 55:15
  came
• 55:16
  in
• 55:17
  the
• 55:17
  great
• 55:17
  Roger
• 55:18
  Conn
• 55:18
  book,
• 55:18
  the
• 55:19
  Boys
• 55:19
  of
• 55:19
  Summer.
• 55:20
  And
• 55:20
  Ted
• 55:20
  Green
• 55:21
  and
• 55:21
  I
• 55:21
  were
• 55:21
  talking
• 55:21
  about
• 55:22
  what
• 55:22
  a
• 55:22
  beloved
• 55:23
  team
• 55:24
  the
• 55:24
  Brooklyn
• 55:24
  Dodgers
• 55:25
  were,
• 55:25
  what
• 55:25
  a
• 55:26
  magical
• 55:26
  place
• 55:27
  Ebbets
• 55:27
  Field
• 55:28
  was.
• 55:28
  Did
• 55:29
  your
• 55:29
  dad
• 55:29
  ever
• 55:29
  talk
• 55:29
  to
• 55:29
  you
• 55:30
  about
• 55:30
  Ebbets
• 55:30
  Field?
• 55:32
  Not
• 55:33
  really.
• 55:33
  I
• 55:33
  mean,
• 55:34
  I
• 55:34
  will
• 55:34
  tell
• 55:34
  you,
• 55:35
  I
• 55:35
  have.
• 55:36
  Looks
• 55:36
  like
• 55:36
  it's
• 55:37
  been
• 55:37
  beat
• 55:37
  up.
• 55:38
  I
• 55:38
  have
• 55:38
  my
• 55:39
  dad's
• 55:39
  book,
• 55:39
  the
• 55:40
  original
• 55:40
  that
• 55:40
  Roger
• 55:41
  Khan
• 55:41
  signed
• 55:41
  to
• 55:41
  him.
• 55:42
  And
• 55:42
  my
• 55:42
  dad's
• 55:43
  chapter
• 55:43
  is
• 55:44
  black
• 55:44
  is
• 55:44
  what
• 55:44
  you
• 55:44
  make
• 55:45
  it.
• 55:46
  And
• 55:47
  my
• 55:47
  dad
• 55:47
  was
• 55:47
  married
• 55:47
  to
• 55:48
  my
• 55:48
  mother
• 55:48
  at
• 55:48
  the
• 55:48
  time.
• 55:49
  And
• 55:49
  so
• 55:50
  it's
• 55:50
  really
• 55:50
  funny
• 55:51
  when
• 55:51
  the
• 55:51
  beginning
• 55:51
  of
• 55:51
  it,
• 55:52
  when
• 55:52
  you
• 55:52
  read
• 55:52
  it,
• 55:52
  that
• 55:53
  Roger
• 55:53
  Khan
• 55:54
  comes
• 55:54
  to
• 55:54
  our
• 55:54
  house
• 55:55
  here,
• 55:55
  actually,
• 55:55
  in
• 55:55
  Chicago.
• 55:56
  My
• 55:56
  parents
• 55:56
  met
• 55:56
  here,
• 55:57
  and
• 55:57
  I
• 55:58
  was
• 55:58
  a
• 55:58
  baby,
• 55:58
  and
• 55:58
  my
• 55:59
  dad
• 55:59
  was
• 55:59
  holding
• 55:59
  me,
• 56:00
  and
• 56:00
  Roger
• 56:00
  Khan's
• 56:01
  like,
• 56:01
  oh.
• 56:01
  I
• 56:01
  was
• 56:01
  like,
• 56:02
  yeah,
• 56:02
  yeah.
• 56:02
  This
• 56:02
  is
• 56:02
  what
• 56:02
  I
• 56:02
  was
• 56:02
  doing
• 56:03
  in
• 56:03
  1952
• 56:03
  with
• 56:03
  my
• 56:04
  brother
• 56:04
  Chico.
• 56:05
  My
• 56:05
  brother
• 56:05
  was
• 56:06
  born
• 56:06
  in
• 56:06
  52.
• 56:07
  So
• 56:07
  they
• 56:08
  talked
• 56:08
  about
• 56:08
  that
• 56:08
  and
• 56:08
  how
• 56:09
  my
• 56:09
  mother
• 56:09
  cooks
• 56:09
  extremely
• 56:10
  well,
• 56:11
  you
• 56:11
  know,
• 56:11
  in
• 56:11
  the
• 56:11
  book.
• 56:12
  But
• 56:12
  it
• 56:13
  definitely.
• 56:13
  I.
• 56:14
  The
• 56:14
  people,
• 56:15
  like,
• 56:15
  I
• 56:15
  work
• 56:15
  with
• 56:15
  one
• 56:16
  Jared
• 56:16
  Weinstorf
• 56:17
  and
• 56:18
  any
• 56:18
  other
• 56:18
  famous
• 56:19
  people
• 56:19
  that
• 56:19
  you've
• 56:19
  seen
• 56:19
  on
• 56:20
  tv.
• 56:20
  The
• 56:20
  Brooklyn
• 56:20
  Dodgers
• 56:21
  were.
• 56:23
  They
• 56:24
  were
• 56:24
  not.
• 56:25
  They
• 56:26
  walked
• 56:26
  on
• 56:26
  water,
• 56:26
  so
• 56:27
  to
• 56:27
  speak.
• 56:27
  They
• 56:28
  were
• 56:28
  America's
• 56:28
  pastime.
• 56:29
  Right.
• 56:30
  That
• 56:30
  is
• 56:30
  why
• 56:30
  people,
• 56:31
  you
• 56:31
  know,
• 56:31
  yes,
• 56:32
  we
• 56:32
  know
• 56:32
  the
• 56:32
  Yankees,
• 56:33
  as
• 56:33
  we
• 56:33
  know
• 56:34
  in
• 56:34
  the
• 56:34
  Dodgers,
• 56:35
  but
• 56:35
  there
• 56:35
  was
• 56:36
  something
• 56:36
  special
• 56:36
  about
• 56:37
  the
• 56:37
  Brooklyn
• 56:37
  Dodgers,
• 56:37
  and
• 56:38
  it
• 56:38
  may
• 56:38
  be
• 56:38
  because
• 56:38
  Jack
• 56:39
  Robinson
• 56:39
  was
• 56:40
  there,
• 56:40
  Larry
• 56:41
  Doby
• 56:41
  got
• 56:42
  to
• 56:42
  the
• 56:42
  American
• 56:42
  League.
• 56:43
  But
• 56:43
  it
• 56:44
  was
• 56:44
  something
• 56:44
  that
• 56:44
  they
• 56:45
  were
• 56:45
  all
• 56:45
  special,
• 56:46
  from
• 56:46
  Carl
• 56:46
  Erkson
• 56:47
  to
• 56:48
  Koufax
• 56:48
  was
• 56:48
  even
• 56:49
  in
• 56:49
  Brooklyn
• 56:49
  before
• 56:49
  he
• 56:49
  moved
• 56:50
  to
• 56:50
  la.
• 56:51
  Exactly.
• 56:51
  Well,
• 56:51
  Martha
• 56:52
  Jo
• 56:52
  Black,
• 56:52
  thank
• 56:53
  you
• 56:53
  for
• 56:53
  taking
• 56:54
  the
• 56:54
  time
• 56:54
  out
• 56:54
  of
• 56:54
  your
• 56:54
  Sunday
• 56:55
  night
• 56:55
  to
• 56:55
  spend
• 56:55
  it
• 56:55
  with
• 56:55
  us
• 56:56
  up
• 56:56
  here
• 56:56
  in
• 56:56
  New
• 56:56
  York.
• 56:57
  I
• 56:57
  am
• 56:57
  looking
• 56:58
  forward
• 56:58
  to
• 56:58
  seeing
• 56:58
  you
• 56:59
  next
• 56:59
  weekend
• 56:59
  at
• 56:59
  the
• 57:00
  New
• 57:00
  York
• 57:00
  State
• 57:01
  Baseball
• 57:01
  hall
• 57:01
  of
• 57:01
  Fame
• 57:02
  induction
• 57:02
  ceremony
• 57:03
  at
• 57:03
  which
• 57:03
  your
• 57:04
  dad,
• 57:04
  Joe
• 57:04
  Black,
• 57:05
  will
• 57:05
  be
• 57:05
  inducted.
• 57:06
  Thank
• 57:06
  you
• 57:06
  again,
• 57:06
  Martha.
• 57:07
  And
• 57:07
  we'll
• 57:07
  see
• 57:08
  you
• 57:08
  next
• 57:08
  weekend.
• 57:11
  That
• 57:12
  is
• 57:13
  the
• 57:14
  end
• 57:14
  of
• 57:14
  that,
• 57:14
  folks.
• 57:14
  That'll
• 57:15
  do
• 57:15
  it
• 57:15
  for
• 57:15
  me
• 57:15
  tonight
• 57:16
  on
• 57:16
  Sports
• 57:16
