- 0:27the money!
- 0:29For the record, feminism by definition is the belief that men and women should have equal
- 0:35rights and opportunities.
- 0:37Everyone should experience for us class at least once in their lives and Annie shouldn't
- 0:40miss out just because she can't afford it.
- 0:42Help me own pool.
- 0:43I was reckon so.
- 0:45I met she down in the deep dark Hawks Bay.
- 0:47Deep dark.
- 0:48And I said deep dark.
- 0:49It's so beautiful here.
- 0:50It's like sunny Hawks Bay.
- 0:51It's like the fruit bowl of New Zealand.
- 0:53I love that.
- 0:55It's so nice.
- 0:56It's like we're all the apples and nectarines and peaches and, yeah.
- 0:59I'm saying it's one of my best friends from school who have placed and they've got this
- 1:02giant Fijoa tree on the side of the house.
- 1:06And with my goddaughter who's won, we've just been picking up like hundreds of Fijos.
- 1:10It's so cute.
- 1:11And eating them?
- 1:12Yes.
- 1:13I was going to make an apple crumble and then no one really wanted to eat it, so I've
- 1:16been eating them.
- 1:17Yeah, sorry.
- 1:18Yeah, yeah.
- 1:19I mean, you can eat the Fijos to make an apple crumble.
- 1:22Cool.
- 1:23It's like a great idea.
- 1:24Oh my god.
- 1:25No.
- 1:26I just make Fijos crumble.
- 1:27Oh god, it was delicious.
- 1:28I love Fijos.
- 1:29Yes, oh yeah me.
- 1:30The main, I would say the best.
- 1:31No, not the best, but one highlight of the weekend has been discovering.
- 1:36And I would like to preface this by saying this is not sponsored.
- 1:39Pimple patches?
- 1:40Like, have you seen these?
- 1:41Oh, yes.
- 1:42God, you're the second person that's been going on about pimple patches.
- 1:46She was like, you've got to start using them this.
- 1:48I just feel like they're going to be like colsor patch.
- 1:50Colsor, colsor, colsor.
- 1:52Colsor.
- 1:53And then you don't need to wear in front of people.
- 1:54Yeah, true.
- 1:55Hey, you know what?
- 1:56I got in the weekend.
- 1:57A Fitbit.
- 1:58Sorry to say.
- 1:59Oh my god.
- 2:00How weird.
- 2:01I was just thinking about things not to wear in front of people.
- 2:03Fitbit.
- 2:04Oh my god.
- 2:05I'm surprised you did that.
- 2:07I know.
- 2:08Same.
- 2:09I went to no-leaming to get stands.
- 2:10Tripods.
- 2:11And I was like, you know what?
- 2:12I'm going to need a Fitbit because I'm trying to do 15,000 steps a day each day for
- 2:16this month.
- 2:17Oh god.
- 2:18Yeah.
- 2:19And it tracks your sleep.
- 2:21It tracks your menstrual cycle.
- 2:23It tracks your stress.
- 2:24Your eating.
- 2:25It's actually.
- 2:26Oh god.
- 2:27And this is not sponsored by Fitbit.
- 2:28But also, it's kind of ugly.
- 2:29You know?
- 2:30Yeah.
- 2:31It's not.
- 2:32It's not looking chic and I know.
- 2:33I've been wearing shirts to hide.
- 2:36The wrist.
- 2:37Can you put it on like your upper arm or something so that it's there but not on show?
- 2:42Yeah.
- 2:43I mean, the straps.
- 2:44Not that long.
- 2:45But yes.
- 2:46No, it's quite good.
- 2:47It's quite incentivising.
- 2:48You know?
- 2:49I was actually going to walk to work this morning.
- 2:52Sunny day.
- 2:53I can see it now.
- 2:54Every podcast.
- 2:55It's going to be like, I mean, 8,000 steps today.
- 2:57I did 20,000 years today.
- 2:59Oh, all right.
- 3:00Overachiever.
- 3:01Anyway.
- 3:02Stock market.
- 3:03We had a really, really strong week last night.
- 3:10Last week in the US stock market.
- 3:12And it was the end of the first quarter of the year.
- 3:14So a really strong finish to the March quarter, which is good.
- 3:18And when I was doing the most searching, like what index.
- 3:21You know, the amount of each index has gone up.
- 3:23I was like, well, pretty much all four indexes.
- 3:26So the S&P 500, the US one, the NASDAQ, which is the US.
- 3:30The Australian and the New Zealand index were all up around 3%.
- 3:34Which is quite weird.
- 3:35Really?
- 3:36I normally have that.
- 3:37No.
- 3:38Like, usually, you know, different countries perform differently.
- 3:41And so I was like, well, that's quite, you know, little rolls of the tongue easy.
- 3:45You know, all markets up 3%.
- 3:47But most of the increase in the US was done on Friday.
- 3:50And that's because we had inflation data out, which showed that inflation in the US was slowing.
- 3:56Which is really good news, which meant even I'm super positive about that.
- 4:00And the stock market was up really strong on Friday towards the end of the week.
- 4:04But we actually had some really interesting news come out from Apple.
- 4:09One of my favorite companies.
- 4:11And they announced, I mean, I'm not too happy about this.
- 4:14But they announced Apple Pay Later, which is there by now Pay Later service.
- 4:19So they announced.
- 4:20Oh, yeah.
- 4:21How do you feel about that?
- 4:22I mean, I can see from a business perspective why Apple has done it.
- 4:27But to be honest, it's from a consumer point of view, it's not the best.
- 4:31Do we think it's irresponsible?
- 4:33I mean, yeah, but gosh, you know, like some companies that are out there to make money.
- 4:38Do you know what I mean?
- 4:39Like that's, they've got investors that need to make revenue that needs to make profit.
- 4:43Here's an additional service we can provide.
- 4:45Everyone's, you know, a lot of people in the US are using Apple Pay.
- 4:49Let's just put on another card that's Apple Pay Later.
- 4:52And so pretty easy to roll out from their point of view.
- 4:55An additional service additional revenue stream.
- 4:58And, but I want to, you know, like, social reaction is fair enough.
- 5:02But for a lot of people, they'll probably be like,
- 5:04why do you guys not like By Now Pay Later?
- 5:06But the thing with By Now Pay Later is that it's effectively you living outside your means
- 5:12and it really impacts your credit score.
- 5:14Even if you pay it on time, it doesn't matter.
- 5:16Yeah, By Now Pay Later is just, it's not a great mechanism.
- 5:20And in my eyes, if you can't afford it, then don't buy it.
- 5:25And it creates this world where, oh, well, instead of buying one t-shirt,
- 5:30I can buy two for the same price and pay it off in four weeks.
- 5:33It's like, that's not the mentality you should be having.
- 5:35You should be like, you know what, I just need the one and I'm going to save up so that I can buy it.
- 5:39It's a form of debt effectively.
- 5:42Apple Pay is accepted by things like 85% of US retailers.
- 5:46So to be now, we'll be able to offer this service.
- 5:49It's going to be a big hit to a lot of other players out there like PayPal,
- 5:53Block, which owns After Pay.
- 5:55So all those companies saw their share prices fall slightly when this was announced.
- 6:00The other thing that we had last week was Lululemon.
- 6:03A lot of you will know this company.
- 6:06Their shares jumped 14% after they announced their financial result,
- 6:10which is pretty amazing for a company.
- 6:13Dad, I'm annoyed I didn't invest because I had been thinking I shouldn't invest.
- 6:17I used that stuff all the time.
- 6:18Totally.
- 6:19Yeah, and this is a trend that we could have all seen playing out.
- 6:22Like, gosh, in my Pilates studio, I reckon about 90% of people wearing Lululemon.
- 6:27So their share prices now at $360 and it was at $473 back in November 21,
- 6:34when it's share price peak.
- 6:36So even though it's up 14% after this really good result,
- 6:39it's still a long way off where it was.
- 6:42So could still be a bargain, so.
- 6:44But their yearly sales have risen 30% compared to 2021.
- 6:50So they're still growing.
- 6:52And this is for a massive company.
- 6:54But $360 growth in sales is huge.
- 6:57Their last quarterly revenue was $3 billion,
- 7:01which is pretty insane.
- 7:03And this has all been affitting from people working from home,
- 7:07people wearing a lot more Lululemon out and about in declubs.
- 7:12That kind of thing.
- 7:13You ran into declubs.
- 7:15In the last thing that we saw a lot of last week
- 7:20was a thing that I wanted to touch on, which is called comeback CEOs.
- 7:23And we've seen this a lot recently.
- 7:25It's like Disney.
- 7:26Yeah, Disney, Starbucks as well.
- 7:29The Howard Schultz, I don't know how it says name,
- 7:32but he returned.
- 7:33He was a founder of Starbucks and he's returned.
- 7:35We saw it with Apple with Steve Jobs.
- 7:37Surprisingly, Apple was about to go bankrupt.
- 7:39Like, A, just a go.
- 7:40And then Steve Jobs came back and created Apple
- 7:44into what it is today and to one of the most.
- 7:46Really?
- 7:47Yeah. And so it's crazy to think that this happens.
- 7:51And then recently with all the banks,
- 7:53we explained how UBS, large investment bank and Switzerland
- 7:57has bought credit, Swiss out of trouble.
- 7:59And now the old CEO at UBS has come back
- 8:03to take over that new combined business.
- 8:06So it's interesting to see what will happen from UBS.
- 8:10But majority of the time investors really like a comeback CEO
- 8:14because they've been there.
- 8:16They're well rehearsed and how the business operates.
- 8:18They're kind of been brought back for a reason
- 8:20because maybe the business is struggling.
- 8:22And so they usually put all their heart and soul
- 8:26into making it a better and more improved company.
- 8:30But it's just an interesting trend that we've seen a lot of recently.
- 8:33And majority of cases companies tend to do well once
- 8:37an old CEO or a founder and it comes back into the fold.
- 8:40But there was just something interesting I would bring up.
- 8:44Is that like a, you know, is this a trend that you have spotted?
- 8:47Or is there like headlines ever being like come back,
- 8:50CEOs are a thing.
- 8:52I mean, I'd like to say a spot it is,
- 8:55but I did read a headline.
- 8:57But it's quite a clever thing to pick up.
- 9:02Yeah, I mean, we always talk about how we like to invest
- 9:04in like founder lead businesses or CEOs have got a lot of skin in the game
- 9:08or own a lot of shares.
- 9:09And yeah, this is kind of another one of those things.
- 9:12It's like, oh, they've been brought back for a reason.
- 9:14They obviously did a really good job over there.
- 9:16So it's like, cool, can you do that again?
- 9:18So just before we go.
- 9:19So if you know that pimple patch that you were going on about.
- 9:21Yes, yes, yes.
- 9:22Can you look on the packet? Do you have the packet?
- 9:24Yeah, I've got it actually.
- 9:25Who owns the company?
- 9:27Because this is a really good example of finding a product that works
- 9:31that you love, which means probably a lot of other people are finding the same way.
- 9:34And you're going, oh, is this a publicly listed company?
- 9:37Can I benefit from this growth?
- 9:39Not just the patch.
- 9:42It says distributed by Australian therapeutics applies.
- 9:45Is that the, would that be the company now?
- 9:48I will just Google and see it might be owned by another skin control.
- 9:55Are you, is that in tune?
- 9:57No, that's in Instagram, not there.
- 9:59No, it doesn't look like it is a publicly listed company.
- 10:02Made in Korea, that's the only other thing I've got in here.
- 10:05Okay, well, I'm good.
- 10:07But it's a good lesson.
- 10:09To Google and just type in Australian therapeutic supplies or
- 10:13parent companies.
- 10:15Yeah, the name of the, the name of the product.
- 10:18Is this a public company?
- 10:20You know, Google is fantastic for that kind of stuff.
- 10:23It's good.
- 10:24Is she a good example?
- 10:25I didn't think that.
- 10:26Oh, they sell condoms too.
- 10:27That's good to know.
- 10:28Do that.
- 10:29Yeah.
- 10:30I'll give all the products to go, you know.
- 10:32I'll give them the go and report back.
- 10:34Hashtag ad.
- 10:36Okay.
- 10:38Thanks.
- 10:39But if the condoms don't work.
- 10:40Oh, God.
- 10:41Let's hope they do.
- 10:42Yeah.
- 10:43Okay.
- 10:44Already got fresh.
- 10:45I can't get an STI.
- 10:46No.
- 10:47TMI.
- 10:48And we're horrible.
- 10:50Stop the podcast before that.
- 10:52Okay.
- 10:53Good bye.
