- 0:01Speaker 1: Section thirty eight of Sikh Religion, Volume five by Max
- 0:07Speaker 1: Arthur McAuliffe. This LibriVox recording is in the public domain
- 0:13Speaker 1: compositions of Urugo Bin Singh, Hazar chabbed O Man. Practice
- 0:22Speaker 1: asceticism in this way. Consider thy house altogether as the forest,
- 0:28Speaker 1: and remain anchorate at heart. Make continents thy matted hair,
- 0:33Speaker 1: union with God, thy ablutions, thy daily religious duties, the
- 0:38Speaker 1: growth of thy nails, divine knowledge, thy spiritual guide. Admonish
- 0:43Speaker 1: thy heart, and apply God's name as ashes to thy body.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Eat little sleep, little love, mercy, and forbearance. Ever, practice
- 0:53Speaker 1: mildness and patience, and thou shalt be freed from the
- 0:56Speaker 1: three qualities attached not to thy heart, lust, wrath, covetousness, obstinacy,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and worldly love. Thus shalt thou behold the real soul
- 1:08Speaker 1: of this world and obtain the supreme being oh Man.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Practice yog in this way. Make truth thy horn, sincerity
- 1:18Speaker 1: thy necklace, and apply meditation as ashes to thy body.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Make restraint of thy heart, thy liar, and the support
- 1:27Speaker 1: of the name thine alms. Play the primal essence as
- 1:31Speaker 1: thy strings, and thou shalt hear God's sweet song by
- 1:36Speaker 1: the practice of the songs of divine knowledge, waves of
- 1:40Speaker 1: melody and exquisite pleasure shall be produced. The demons and
- 1:45Speaker 1: the demigods in their celestial charts will be astonished, and
- 1:49Speaker 1: the munis intoxicated with delight. Admonish thy heart down the
- 1:54Speaker 1: garb of self restraint and utter God's name inaudibly. So
- 2:00Speaker 1: shall thy body ever remain like gold and death, never
- 2:03Speaker 1: approach thee, Oh mortal touch the feet of the supreme Being.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Why sleepst thou the sleep of worldly love be sometimes
- 2:14Speaker 1: wakeful and alert? Why instruct others o beast, since thou
- 2:19Speaker 1: hast no knowledge thyself? Why ever accumulate sin even now?
- 2:25Speaker 1: Lay aside the love of it? Deem such things simply
- 2:28Speaker 1: as errors and love truly religious acts, ever, lay up
- 2:33Speaker 1: the remembrance of God. Renounce and flee from mortal sin.
- 2:37Speaker 1: By this means, shalt thou not encounter sorrow or sin
- 2:42Speaker 1: and escape from Death's news If thou desire ever to
- 2:46Speaker 1: have happiness of every kind be absorbed in God's love.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Oh God, my honor resteth with thee. It is thou
- 2:56Speaker 1: who art the blue throated manlin moving in the water,
- 3:00Speaker 1: blue robed, wearing a necklace of flowers. It is thou
- 3:04Speaker 1: who art the primal being, supreme God, Lord, pure, living
- 3:08Speaker 1: on air. It is thou who art the Lord of Lakshmi,
- 3:12Speaker 1: great Light, destroyer of the pride of Madu, bestower of salvation,
- 3:16Speaker 1: destroyer of mirr. It is thou who art changeless and decaying,
- 3:20Speaker 1: sleepless without evil passions, preserver from hell, ocean of mercy,
- 3:25Speaker 1: served the past, present and future, effacer of evil acts.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It is thou who hast the bow in the hand,
- 3:32Speaker 1: who art patient, supporter of the earth, changeless, wielder of
- 3:35Speaker 1: the sort I of feeble intellect have taken the protection
- 3:39Speaker 1: of thy feet. Take my hand and save me. O man,
- 3:43Speaker 1: worship none but God, not a thing made by Him.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Know that he who was in the beginning unborn, invincible,
- 3:50Speaker 1: and indestructible is God. What if Vishnu, coming into this world,
- 3:56Speaker 1: killed some of the demons, and, exercising great deceit in
- 4:00Speaker 1: induced everyone to call him God, How can he who
- 4:03Speaker 1: himself did not escape from the stroke of the sword
- 4:05Speaker 1: of death be deemed God, the destroyer, the fashioner, the omnipotent,
- 4:10Speaker 1: the eternal here O fool? How can he who was
- 4:14Speaker 1: drowned in the ocean of the world save THEE. Thou
- 4:18Speaker 1: shalt only escape from Death's news when thou seesest the
- 4:22Speaker 1: feet of him who existed before the world. When the
- 4:26Speaker 1: Guru left dam Dama, his disciples sent a messenger after
- 4:30Speaker 1: him to tell him of their sad plight. The following
- 4:33Speaker 1: is the complaint as versified by the Guru. Others say
- 4:37Speaker 1: that the hemn was addressed to God by the Guru himself.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Tell the dear Friend the condition of his disciples without thee.
- 4:46Speaker 1: The wearing of our blankets is a disease to us,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and dwelling in our houses is as if we dwelt
- 4:52Speaker 1: with serpents. Our water pots, our stakes of torture are
- 4:55Speaker 1: cups are daggers. Thy turning away from us is like
- 4:59Speaker 1: what animals endure from butchers. Our beloved's palate would be
- 5:03Speaker 1: pleasant to us. Living in towns is like living in
- 5:06Speaker 1: a furnace. God alone is the creator, the beginning, and
- 5:10Speaker 1: the end of all things endless. The fashioner and the destroyer,
- 5:14Speaker 1: to whom blame and praise are the same, who hath
- 5:17Speaker 1: no enemy, no friend. What necessity had he to become
- 5:21Speaker 1: the driver of our John's chariot? The bestower of salvation.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Hath no father, mother, cast son or grandson. Why should
- 5:30Speaker 1: he have come into the world to be called the
- 5:32Speaker 1: son of Devaki? When he who created Demigod's demons, the
- 5:36Speaker 1: eight disrections and all extension, is called by the name
- 5:40Speaker 1: of Murar. What glory is it to him? How can
- 5:45Speaker 1: God be in human form? Sids have grown weary sitting
- 5:49Speaker 1: in contemplation of him, but they have not been able
- 5:53Speaker 1: to see him in any way. Such persons as Neurad, Bias, Parasar,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and Drew have deeply meditated on him. The beds in
- 6:02Speaker 1: the Purans have grown weary and abandoned their purpose since
- 6:05Speaker 1: they could form no conception of him. Demons Demigod's fiend
- 6:09Speaker 1: sprites describe him as indescribable. The faith will consider him
- 6:14Speaker 1: as the settlest of the subtle, and again pointed him
- 6:17Speaker 1: out as the largest of the large, the one God,
- 6:20Speaker 1: having made the earth, the heaven, and all the nether regions.
- 6:24Speaker 1: They call many. He who entereth God's asylum shall be
- 6:28Speaker 1: saved from death's noos. I recognize none but the One God.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I know God as the destroyer of the fashion of
- 6:37Speaker 1: the omnipotent and eternal creator what availeth it? Two men
- 6:41Speaker 1: to worship stones in various ways with great love and devotion.
- 6:45Speaker 1: The hand groweth weary by touching stones, and no spiritual
- 6:49Speaker 1: power is obtained. Rice and sense lamps are offered to stones,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but they eat nothing. What spiritual power is in them?
- 6:57Speaker 1: O fool? What blessing can they bestow on thee? If
- 7:00Speaker 1: they had life, they might give THEE something? Be assured
- 7:04Speaker 1: of this and thought were it in deep Except in
- 7:06Speaker 1: the protection of the one soul God, know where is salvation?
- 7:12Speaker 1: Without God's name? Thou canst not be saved? How shalt
- 7:16Speaker 1: thou flee from Him who holdeth the fourteen worlds in
- 7:19Speaker 1: his power? Ram and Rahem, whose names thou repeatest, cannot
- 7:23Speaker 1: save thee. Brahma, Vishnu, Siv, the Sun and Moon are
- 7:28Speaker 1: all in the power of death, The Ves, the Parans,
- 7:31Speaker 1: the Koran, all sex in Darsheshnag. The kings of the
- 7:35Speaker 1: Munis meditated for many ages on him who is called
- 7:38Speaker 1: the indescribable, but could form no conception of him. Why
- 7:43Speaker 1: should he whose form and color are not known be
- 7:46Speaker 1: called black? When thou shalt seize and cling to God's feet,
- 7:49Speaker 1: thou shalt be freed from the news of death. End
- 7:55Speaker 1: of compositions of Gurugo been singh Azar Shaban
