- 1:05SPEAKER_03: God's country, I believe, is what they call it up there.

- 1:32SPEAKER_03: Make sure you stick around.
- 1:33SPEAKER_03: But first, let's take a look back at the week that was.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: The Eagles opened up their northern Alberta Road trip Friday afternoon in Grand Prairie, taking on the storm.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Hockey hooky day, 12 o'clock noon start for that one.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: And as a former feature, it was like PTSD out there.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: Kids just making noise, hopped up on sugar.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: I almost crawled underneath my table and got into the feudal position, but I took care of business and the Eagles took care of business on the ice.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: Let's take a look at some of the highlights.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: As we get set to kick things underway, maybe an early look at the AJHL final between the two top teams.
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: And as we are underway, thanks for joining us on Flow Hockey as the face-off is won by the Eagles.
- 2:17SPEAKER_04: Berkeley conflict will have to go back.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: And Instinger's got to get on his horse.
- 2:20SPEAKER_04: Maybe we made an opportunity here for Fogle.
- 2:22SPEAKER_04: Drop past the score.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: They glove him and Hudson Zoe on a little bit of a communication breakdown.
- 2:42SPEAKER_04: And it's one to nothing Storm here with 632 left to go in this first period.
- 2:50SPEAKER_04: He'll just rifle it off the glass as Perry takes a book.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: He shot a friendly score.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: Cohen Dells short-handed as Hudson Perry to blew a tire behind the net.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: And Cohen Dells takes advantage.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: Short-handed goal number one on the season for Cohen Dells.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: They only had one short-handed goal a year ago.
- 3:12SPEAKER_04: And Cohen Dows takes the pass from Aiden Tajuk.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: And he'll tie it up at one with 223 left to go in this first period.
- 3:21SPEAKER_04: Net there that both goaltenders have landed on their seat.
- 3:26SPEAKER_04: Almost an opportunity for the Storm to take their lead back in this game, but great job by the Eagles.
- 3:31SPEAKER_04: The convergent from the net.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: Here comes Insinger.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: The Master Eddie.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: He scores! Oh, and Master Reddy snipes it in.
- 3:42SPEAKER_04: 2-1 Eagles! Eagles addressing seven defenders in this hockey game.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: Mill will win it back to Scott.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: Walks a line.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: He swaps out and he scores! Landed Scott from the point.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: What a start in the second period for the Eagles! It's three to one.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: Glove down.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: Here comes Cohen Dells and Ryder Dembo.
- 4:04SPEAKER_04: Maybe a two-on-one.
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: And Front Dells back and he score! Cohen Dells has got two! The Eagles have come out firing three goals in the first five minutes of the second period.
- 4:19SPEAKER_04: As Coindos has got his second of the game, and it's now four to one with 15-15 left to go.
- 4:28SPEAKER_04: Behind the net, dug out by Cohen Dells.
- 4:30SPEAKER_04: He's got it in the opposite corner to the hash marks.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: Cross-sects pass, touch shot! Shot, save rebound, they score! The captain gets it done on the power play! Eden touch out! And it's five to one with 12-42 left to go in this third period.
- 4:48SPEAKER_04: He'll play it over to Taysom Miller on his birthday down low.
- 4:51SPEAKER_04: That's shot by Ceno rebound, they score.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: Braden and Vell Houston's got his fourth of the season.
- 5:01SPEAKER_04: The power play clicks.
- 5:03SPEAKER_04: They're now one for three.
- 5:05SPEAKER_04: And the score is five to two with 846 left to go.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: Face off once again, this time to the glove hand side.
- 5:12SPEAKER_04: It'll be one by Milk.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: Berkeley Kopflick can't hold on to it.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: And Zobi work back to Gerbert up the fen.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: Houston is shot.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: He scores my bulky's bowling great channel.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: And the power play is clicking.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: Look out.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: And it's now 5-3 with 358 left to go.
- 5:31SPEAKER_04: With five seconds left to go, that's not gonna matter.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: Start spreading the news as Dowston Friday denied the hat-trick.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: But that won't matter as the Cannamore Eagles come into Grand Prairie, and they'll win the first game of this three-game road trip final score.
- 5:47SPEAKER_04: Five to three over the Grand Prairie Storm.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: A big road victory for the Eagles and another offensive performance from Cohen Dows, who continues his hot start to the season.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Hudson Sido got his fourth great start in between the pipes.
- 6:01SPEAKER_03: And there wasn't much time to celebrate.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: The Eagles headed to Whitecourt the following night with Steven Warwick making his debut for the Eagles.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: First start in between the pipes played very well, including some 10 bell saves in that first period while the Eagles tried to find their legs.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: The Eagles did go up one to nothing before Whitecourt scored four straight goals.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: The Eagles made it interesting, including Ryder Dembo getting his first of the season to make it four to three late in that third period.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: But Whitecourt finished it off with an empty netter.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: Aidan Tachuk continues his strong start with a goal and assist, but the Eagles couldn't complete the comeback.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: And with that, Camor's undefeated start came to an end.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: And the road trip wrapped up Sunday afternoon in Devin.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: And it was another tough pill to swallow.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: Eagles got out to a quick two-to-nothing lead in that first period before Devin scored four in the second.
- 6:54SPEAKER_03: Eagles tied it up to begin the third, and it was a late goal for the Devin Extreme before the Eagles fell five to four.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: Aiden Tachuk scored twice, but the Eagles finished up their weekend with one win and two losses.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: While the results weren't necessarily what the team was hoping for, there were still some positives to take away, particularly offensively.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: And that's going to bring us to a new segment for this podcast.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: The player of the week, and one player has certainly made his presence fell on that road trip, and that was Aidan Tachuk, the 20-year-old forward, recorded four goals and four assists for eight points in three games, earning himself the AJHL Player of the Week honors.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: But more importantly, he is our Eagles weekly player of the week.
- 7:37SPEAKER_03: A little bit more prestigious than that AJHL Player of the Week honors.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Tachuk has been leading the way early this season.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: And this is actually a great segue because we talked to his limeate, one of his lime mates, Ryder Dembo, this week.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Rider's journey through junior hockey has been anything but convectional.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: He'll tell you that.
- 7:56SPEAKER_03: He tells you all about that in the podcast.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: He's played for several different organizations, several different leagues.
- 8:01SPEAKER_03: He's experienced the ups and the downs that come with moving around in junior hockey, but he's kept a great mindset, great positivity.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: And it did not take long for him to find a home here in Canmore and to make an impact as well.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: And of course, this interview is brought to you by Patty Shack Burger Bar.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: I hope you enjoy the interview with Eagles Forward number 27, Ryder Dembo.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: Chris Klein here with number 27 on the Canmore Eagles, Ryder Dembo.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: Of course, this interview is sponsored by Patty Shack Burger Bar.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Ryder, how's it going today?
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: It's going good.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: How are you, Chris?
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: Ah, not so bad.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: Just living the dream here.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: Appreciate you uh joining us for the interview.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: And uh just want to start with this first one.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: Um, your road through junior hockey hasn't exactly been a straight line.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: No.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: You've been either you've been jar, you know, jumping around.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: Before coming to Cammore, you you know were already experienced and did some different leads, the BCHL.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, what did moving around that much teach you about yourself uh at a young age?
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, well, it's tough.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: I mean you get to live with a bunch of different families and you get to uh experience different uh communities and you know, like weather and stuff.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: And uh I think the main thing I learned uh just about my like journey like moving around was just how resilient that can be.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, sometimes there's not not so good situations and sometimes it's going good, but you're not getting opportunities and stuff like that.
- 9:36SPEAKER_02: But um no, I think I learned how to just uh you know be an adult.
- 9:40SPEAKER_02: Um you know, living with different families and stuff.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: You learnt uh you learn different stuff, like different traditions, different uh um, you know, everyday lives, and it's uh it's cool to experience uh you know so many different so many different experiences, right?
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: And before coming to Cam or you played in the BC League there, that's just just a quick question, just because you hear so much about the BC League is better, the AJ is better, that kind of thing.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: Just how what's the is there a difference in you know a different style in play between the BC League and the J uh uh the AJ?
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Is AJ a little bit more like a skill league, a little bit more heavy in terms of physicality?
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: Is there a real difference there?
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: They're very uh they're very similar, I'd say.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: Like um the main thing for me, which was the difference, was the opportunity for sure.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Uh I think in BC I didn't get as much opportunity uh to really play how how how I play.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: Um and coming to Camelot, I got a lot more opportunity.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Um, and I think I just strived in my role.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, I'd just say you're a little more physical, I'd say here.
- 10:51SPEAKER_02: Um it's just so tough to compare.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: No, I like you came into Canmore, you know, on fire.
- 11:01SPEAKER_03: You scored 24 points in 20 games there.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: Um, but before you came to Canmore, was there ever some doubt that kind of creeped into your mind that you were like, man, am I ever am I gonna fit somewhere?
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Um, am I gonna find the right fit before eventually uh coming to Canmore?
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Oh for sure.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: I mean there there's always doubt that creeps in.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Um I think while where where I was in BC, it was an amazing spot.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: I lived with an amazing family, loved my teammates, loved everything about it.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Um just on the hockey side of it.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: I I've I thought, you know, um that was that was tough because I was playing, you know, such a small role.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Um, and especially being a 19-year-old, so it's you only got two years left.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: You want to really play and enjoy it.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, passing, you know, by the passing day, I kind of started to think more, you know, I'm here for hockey.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: And as much as I love this group of guys and all this stuff, uh I wanted to go and play and and enjoy it.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: Um you know, it even goes back to my time in Saskatchewan, like um I I found the spot like I I thrived and I like according to LaGrange, I really I thrived there.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: Um at the end of the day, I wanted to, you know, move on.
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, so I've had the chance to experience good spots and you know good opportunities and stuff, but um yeah, it's just kind of the cringe you dealt and you gotta do what you can with it.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: So so you played for LaRange there, yeah.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Just overall thoughts, it's a small, very small, yeah, very small, very northern community out of the way.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: Um, what's c one memory that kind of stands out to you playing for the Laurence?
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: I ice wolves out there.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: Oh god, uh, there's there's probably more than you think, you know.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: I think some people think of LaRange, like, where is that?
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: Or we know like who just because of how far away it is, you know, it's so far north, it's it's kind of isolated, but I I honestly loved it.
- 13:01SPEAKER_02: I I had a really good group of guys there.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: I mean some friends for life.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: Um even my line mate uh at the time T Domkin, we we played uh together in Launch, and then we both moved on the couch together.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Um but no good memories.
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: And this is uh so they have this massive lake there, and they do this this whole like poker thing.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: It's like uh I forget how it what what they call it, but people go out on their snowmobiles and on this frozen lake, and then try to clean we like the team has set up stops and they then we they get a card from this one and then the next stop.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: So I thought that was really fun.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Um, so you you know, you're with a group of five guys and you're out on this frozen lake, so it's amazing, but you know, we're having a good time uh, you know, with the people coming through and stuff like that.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: So big ice fishing out there, or do any ice fishing when you were in arch?
- 13:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's big there.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: I I never got the chance to go, but I would have loved to, especially, you know, even in Balford when I was there, just never got the chance, but it's something I would I would have loved to do for sure.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: Or maybe I got some ice fishing stuff.
- 13:59SPEAKER_03: Maybe we could bring clearways under there's not a whole heck of a lot of lakes out here, but we could definitely find one.
- 14:05SPEAKER_03: Um, so talk and so how did you come to Canmore here?
- 14:09SPEAKER_03: So what made you choose?
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: Did you get traded?
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: Did you was Canmore kind of always on your radar uh radar?
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you're a good player and you were looking for an opportunity.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: And to be honest, there's no better opportunity than here and Canmore playing for the eventual uh cup champions there.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, there's there's a lot that went into it.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Um, first of all, being you know, Aiden Shuck, he's my bet like off the ice, he's my best friend from back home.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: Like we're best buds, we hang out, you know, we'll hang out every day.
- 14:35SPEAKER_02: Um, and you know, he's been here for three years.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: And fuck how we call my year D, but I've always stayed up to date with him.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: And we've always talked about playing together and stuff.
- 14:45SPEAKER_02: Um, and then when you know my situation was changing, BC, where I was kind of looking for more opportunity.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah, I'd I'd you know talked with Chuck and I I never thought anything would come out of it, but um the trade deadline day, skills and or Andrew Lill ended up calling me and kind of just letting me know that he that he had traded for my rights um and no pre there's no pressure whatever uh to come or whatever, but um so it didn't take me long to decide I wanted to come here, you know, Chuck's here.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, it's a good group of guys, from what I had heard, but it turned out to be very true.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Uh but yeah, so and it was again like a thing like Chuck would always say, like, all my coach is talking about you, like maybe you should try to get this guy on board.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: And um, yeah, so it just ended up working out perfectly.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: What so speaking of Aiden to Chuck, he's a Calgary Royal.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: You're a Calgary flame.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:44SPEAKER_03: Any battles there between the U2, or is there still like kind of that rivalry flames versus royals?
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: Any extending back to your guys' uh uh minor hockey days.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, minor hockey we actually he started in North Les.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: A lot of people might not know, but so we started off playing together for two years, Phantom, or what they would call the U-15 now.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: So we played together those two years, and um and then the next year uh something happened.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: He ended up on the Royals and uh yeah, that was like our main rival because while the Flames and Royals were always the just for our age groups, uh the buffs too, but in this U16 year was the first year we were apart, and he was a part of the Royals.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, there was some there was some pretty good battles there, that's for sure.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, we played each other in provincials that year too, and then going on to uh U18s, we played each other that first year U18s, and we ended up beating Hobby.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: Winning the league.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: I was not yeah, it was uh there was a big battles for sure.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: Talk about winning a championship there, winning the league.
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: Uh what's one memory kind of sticking out?
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: Because winning the league in U18 there is kind of is a big deal.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: Um and I guess so um two-part question there.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, when in the league, and then talk about playing in that circle K classic.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: How uh what was your experience with the Circle K?
- 17:11SPEAKER_03: Biggest under 18 North America tournament, scouts everywhere, you're playing against the top players from all over North America.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: How was your experience there?
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the Circle K was I wouldn't say the best to the calorie fans, that's for sure.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Uh, I think our first year we were we were so close, maybe one one goal against from being into that top pool, right?
- 17:32SPEAKER_02: And if you're not in that top pool, you can't win it.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: I mean, you can still win your group or whatever, but uh so that first year didn't didn't go too good, and then my second year, we apparently how they group it is it based on your current record.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: And we had just an awful start to the year.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: We lost a bunch of games and then pooling came around and we turned it around, we won like eight in a row, but then we go to unveil it and there's Shatic right there, and everyone's like, Oh my god.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: And they got how many draft pegs and all this stuff, but um yeah, so we went up getting some pretty good players, pretty good teams, and it was it was for a flight.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: It was it was fun, cool experience.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: Like I think it's so cool you could just to bring together all these teams, and there's so much skill, and um yeah, it's it's uh special trend for sure.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, a lot of fun, of course, happening during Christmas time.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: I'll be there doing play by play.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Can't wait for that.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: Um, so there's actually an interview with you online.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: There's like a highlight package with you, and one of the things that you said that separates you as a player was that you're a student of the game.
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Do you still consider yourself that type of player, or can you have you kind of evolved from being uh a student of the game bear?
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Off no, for sure.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: I do, I would describe myself as a student of the game.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: Um you know, I think one of the things one of my strongest points always growing up was my hockey IQ and just um, you know, seeing the ice, understanding play.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: Um, and being one of those players, you want to always want to like understand, you know, um, you know, the next levels, and you keep on learning from different coaches and um, you know, from older players as it as it it goes on.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: So you're always learning, right?
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: And um there's always something to learn, especially at our level.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, you move on to university, there's gonna be something to learn there.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: And yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: What's a what's a coach or a coach that kind of sticks to your mind throughout your development that like really without their tutelage, that maybe you wouldn't be in this spot, maybe you wouldn't have that good mindset um bouncing, bouncing around from league to league.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: Maybe you would have been like, you know what, maybe this isn't for me.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: But what was there a coach there that kind of a message that stuck to you to keep going or something that you constantly think about?
- 19:46SPEAKER_03: Maybe when time it's don't go your way.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: Uh I I guess it wouldn't even correlate this, but the only quote I can remember is from a RE16 coach, uh Goder McDonald, and he said uh 100% effort, 100% attack.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: And uh he was he he was one of those coaches, he was you know amazing, he preached effort above all things.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, there's so many great coaches that have been in my career.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: Um so it'd be hard to mention them all, but I think the main thing would be my parents, honestly.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: I'd look to uh for you know for resilience because there's times where it would be so tough and they just tell me to stick it through.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Um so I really owe it to them for that, you know, side of it.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah.
- 20:30SPEAKER_03: And then you arrived in Camor in January, you you know, and a few months later, you won the cup.
- 20:37SPEAKER_03: You won the inter interpipeline cup, you're going to the Centennial Cup.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Did winning a championship, especially a junior A championship, the AJ, the first one in Camor's history, did it mean a little something different to you?
- 20:50SPEAKER_03: Did it mean a little bit more, especially with everything that you've been through to get to that moment?
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, for sure.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: Like uh after removing a team, you wanna, you know, you almost use it as motivation, right?
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: Because you wanna well, I guess, prove people wrong, right?
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: So coming here, it was it was really special um for this group to win it, especially, you know, just with how the year had gone for me.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Um and coming here, you know, I just I just had fun again with the game and you know, I just let it worry about itself and it it worked out, you know.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: We had a really great run and uh owe it to the guys in the room and coaching staff and to the community here.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: It's just all it's all so great.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: Like I'd say it's it's Tom out for junior hockey.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Like, this is one of the places you want to be.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Um it's definitely my favorite spot I've been.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, just the cultural rebuilt is super special here too.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 21:48SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah.
- 21:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's one of my it's my favorite spot to be here.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: And you like you had a very good playoff run too, you know, four goals, seven assists in fifteen games.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: Did you Roller mindset kind of change, obviously playoff hockey, it's different.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: The games mean more, the the inches, you know.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: A game in say November doesn't feel like the same as the game as March, but does your mindset change or your preparation kind of change um, you know, in those playoff games compared to regular season, or do you try to keep it the same?
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Um, I'd say I'd say preparation and mindset stay the same, right?
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: Um, I'd say the only thing that changes is the game that's actually being played out there.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Uh you know, it's it's tighter, it's more physical, it's tougher to score, you're more, you know, you're more looking to well what am I trying?
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, what am I trying to say?
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: The details of the game, the small details you're trying to, you know, you're trying to iron out, and it just becomes yeah, more physical and it becomes you know, you're you're you're battling.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: Like you don't got that much time left if you're losing, right?
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: So um yeah.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: And you were on a line with Zabbo Mastro or Master Annie, I don't know everybody knows there.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: Um what made that combination work?
- 23:04SPEAKER_03: What was something that those two did that just made your game better um out on the ice?
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Well to start they're both incredibly smart players, right?
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: They have such a good understanding for the game, and I think just the combination of us with, you know, John is shocked.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: And you know, he was wrapping the pill pretty good there, scoring a bunch of goals and then Mastro's speed, like it's and then you know, I'd say with the IQ, the passing, like I mean not all of them have them, or the other two have it, but uh, I'd say just the combination of us, it it really worked well, and um to finish the season it was so strong.
- 23:39SPEAKER_02: I think John won HHL Player of the Month, which was incredible, and it was it was awesome play on his line because it felt like he was going and yeah, we just blended really well.
- 23:49SPEAKER_02: You know, we had good personalities on that line.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: So now you're playing on a line with yeah, Aiden Tachuk and Doust.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: Are there is it a little bit different?
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: It's a little is it a little bit more of a learning period just to relearn that chemistry, or do you know those two so well from practicing with them last year and now going to this year, where it's the seamless transition?
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: Obviously, they're different players than Zabo and Master Addy.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I'd say it's it's it's obviously different.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Like they're different players, they have different tendencies, stuff you gotta learn, like where to be on the ice, because you know, these guys are getting they're they can find you wherever you are.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: That's the thing.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: And you'll you know, there's definitely things I've been learning playing with them, and um, I think you know, recently we're starting to blend really well together, right?
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Um, I think it's just about learning that chemistry.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, I've just been fortunate enough to play with just incredible players.
- 24:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and uh you scored your first goal on this road trip there.
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: How'd it feel to get off the shenanigans, uh pumping it in?
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: What was just the relief that you felt?
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: It was it felt I I mean I was I was begging Berlin after a while, but no, I mean Chuck and Dallas have been successful, so as long as someone's scoring the goals, I don't care who, but you know, um yeah picking up the wins, right?
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, in those ways.
- 25:04SPEAKER_03: Um talk about playing in this community, like the pack barn.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, talk about that first time, first game in Camor, and then all of a sudden you're doing the victory on the ice and you're going down the slam into Uzzy Corner where they have beer cans lined up to the top of the glass, and they just they love this community, just loves this team so much.
- 25:24SPEAKER_03: Just talk about that kind of feeling and just playing for this community.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, it's special.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I played in barns where it's you know it's act and stuff, and there's there's energy, but nothing like this, right?
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: I've I always throughout the years I've seen you know the videos of you know, Jordo Media or whoever it is posted and it it looks electric and then to get to be there, it's it's awesome.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, the boy the boys love it, that's for sure.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: And I mean you can see that when we're jumping to the boards after a win or whatever, but yeah, no, I really got to see it, you know, playoffs last year.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: It was it was incredible.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, it fires you up and you know, it just keeps you wanting to go.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: And no, I think that's you know why we're so eager to win again and you know, to experience this again, especially for the new guys who didn't get to experience it right last year.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: But no, yeah, it's it's special.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: So a couple more questions here, won't keep you that long.
- 26:15SPEAKER_03: So after moving around so much during in earlier in your junior career, what's different about coming back to Camor this season, knowing the dressing room, the coaches, the community, instead of having to start all over again?
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's a good feeling.
- 26:30SPEAKER_02: You kind of get to you're more calm, you know.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: You you know the guys, you know, right?
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: You know a lot of them, you know the culture, and um you're not trying to well, you're still trying to learn, but you're you you already kind of have a you know the mindset for what it's gonna take and you know um what to expect and everything like that, and you get to move in with the same family.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: So it's super nice, you're comfortable.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: Um no, it just it felt really good.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: All right, so your path hasn't been conventional, no, you know, different teams, different leagues, setbacks, a med-season move, yeah, then ultimately a championship.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: If there's a pla young player out there whose hockey career isn't going according to plan, and trust me, there's thousands of them out there that are you know 15, 16 years old, what would you tell them based on your experience?
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: Um I'd I'd just say stay level headed.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: Um you know, you just gotta make the best out of whatever situation you're in, first of all.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: Um you know, you gotta keep working and you know, results will come if you're putting in work and um staying level headed, especially with your emotions, because there's there's times right where it's super tough and um you know maybe you want to quit, maybe you want you know you want to get booed or whatever it is.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: Um, but you just gotta keep pushing through it.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: And and if you do that, you know, maybe maybe it's not your thing, and if you you know what I mean?
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: Um maybe something good comes out of it.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Um, but you just gotta you know hope for the best and keep working towards that.
- 27:58SPEAKER_03: So inspiring rider dambo.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: All right, one last thing, some fun here.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: 10 rapid fire questions just to get to know Ryder Dambo a little bit.
- 28:06SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna say give you a prompt there, just say the first thing that comes to mind.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: What's the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
- 28:14SPEAKER_03: Keep it peachy.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, shower.
- 28:16SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 28:17SPEAKER_03: What's your most used app on your phone?
- 28:20SPEAKER_03: Oh my Instagram, probably.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: Instagram, good.
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: What's one food that you can eat every day and never get sick of?
- 28:27SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
- 28:28SPEAKER_03: Pulp pork.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: Oh, I heard I heard Aiden Tachak talking about he's at pole pork 15 times this week.
- 28:34SPEAKER_03: Uh what's the weirdest pregame superstition or routine you have?
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: Nothing weird.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: I just I always drink Red Bull.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: That's the only thing I think of.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: What's the weirdest you've seen other teammates?
- 28:47SPEAKER_03: Don't name them by names, uh obviously, but like what's the weirdest superstition you've seen throughout your entire career?
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: Uh I honestly don't even think there's anything that weird.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: I just think like people that follow the same routines crazy me because I I'm not a same routine kind of yeah, right.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: Like things can change, I can eat different meals, stuff like that.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:06SPEAKER_03: Well, you get the ox chord on the team box bottle, or you're in control of the music.
- 29:12SPEAKER_03: What's the first song you're putting on?
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: Well, right now, probably uh 98% by Tucker Webmore.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: Okay, that's a good one.
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: That's a good one.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: Um Mose or guilty pleasure artists to listen to.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: Maybe one that isn't that popular, but throw it on.
- 29:29SPEAKER_03: For example, me, Spice Girls.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: I'll throw on the Spice Girls, listen to uh if you want to be my lovers, pipe pipe it.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: What's one for you?
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, oh jeez.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: I can't even think of one that's like guilty.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Oh I just you know, I like that old school rock chill type of music, uh fleetwood back, stuff like that.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: That's a good one.
- 29:46SPEAKER_03: I like Fleetwood Mac.
- 29:48SPEAKER_03: Um, what's what uh what's something you're way too competitive at that does not involve hawk?
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Oh pickleball.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: Pickleball?
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: The boys love pickleball and a song.
- 29:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:58SPEAKER_03: Um if you had to be a room roommate with one Eagles teammate for the entire year, who are you picking?
- 30:07SPEAKER_02: Uh I I gotta go chocolate boys day one.
- 30:11SPEAKER_03: I like who on the Eagles would have the best career outside of hockey and what would they be doing?
- 30:19SPEAKER_03: Oh gosh.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Who would have the best career?
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: I think no, I think it's gotta be Sido.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Genius.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a genius, son.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: That's whatever that's what I've heard.
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: Uh, a couple more here.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: If you have one completely free day off in Canbore, no practice, no gym, no hockey, how are you spending it?
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: Uh well I'm doing something with the boys, that's for sure.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, we go just the day off the other day, we did uh um we went to lunch and then a little hot tub at one of the boys has Stan does he.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Um, favorite movie.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: Oh god, dude.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: I love movies and there's way too many of them.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: One recently that you watched and you're like, oh, that's a good one.
- 31:02SPEAKER_03: Oh god.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: Um I watch it.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: I I'm right now I'm watching a TV show.
- 31:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 31:13SPEAKER_03: Give me a TV show.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: I'm watching this TV show called Silo and Alpatine.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: It's pretty good on one season in, but I can't even think of a movie yet.
- 31:21SPEAKER_03: Okay, last one there, Ryder.
- 31:23SPEAKER_03: Um last one, favorite pregame meal or pregame place to have in Camor.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: Oh, pregame meal?
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: I just gotta go.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: Teriaki.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: Ooh, check in.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Ooh, that's a good one.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: And rice.
- 31:36SPEAKER_02: That's just what I've been liking recently.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: That's been good for me, so nice.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: Well, Ryder Dambo, super happy to see you play your 20-year-old year and get in Can More here.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: You're a heck of a player, and tell you what, let's get that Centennial Cup this year.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: Yes, sir.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: We're coming for it.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: All righty.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: Well, this interview is brought to you by Hattie Check Burger Bar Canmore.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: We'll be back with more after these messages.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Warning the following message may cause extreme hunger.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: We're talking juicy burgers, crispy fries, and flavor that'll have you coming back for more.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: At Patty Jack Burger Bar in Canamore, they're serving up the kind of burgers that make you forget about everything else.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: So when the burger craving hits, you know where to go.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: Patty Jack Burger Bar in Canamore.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: I'm hungry, leave happy.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: A proud supporter of your Canmore Eagles.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: That was Eagles Forward Ryder Dambo.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: What an interesting journey he's gotten to get to this point.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: And one of the things that stand out about Ryder, other than his positivity, uh a lesser player would have just packed up and went home and just called it a day.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: Not Ryder, though.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: And his ability to adapt as well is just unbelievable.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: He's played in different leagues, as he's mentioned, different systems, different dressing rooms.
- 32:55SPEAKER_03: But since arriving in Canmore, he's really found a place.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: He's found a home playing with his best friend, Aiden Tachuk, as he mentioned on his interview.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: And he helped the Eagles win that first AJHL championship last season.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: Big thank you to Ryder for joining us.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: But let's take a look at the week ahead.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: We got a huge matchup coming up at the Canmore Recreation Center.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: Now looking ahead, the Eagles are finally back at home after that three-game Northern Alberta road trip.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: They have the chance to get right back into the wing column with a pair of games against a familiar self-division rival.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: That's right, the Calgary cannot come to Alex Coletta Arena for back-to-back games starting on Friday, October 9th, and Saturday, October 10th.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: They currently have a 4-4 record on the season.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: Both games get away at 7 o'clock.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: If you can't make it, don't worry.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: You can always find me on Flow Hockey on the call.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: Can't wait for that one.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: There's plenty for the Eagles to build on.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: It's currently sitting at 4-2 offensively.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Top line's been producing, but we gotta see if that defense can lock it down now and turn those opportunities into wins.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: And for Calgary, it's an opportunity to get back at Camor after the Eagles dumped them out of the playoffs last season en route to that championship victory.
- 34:12SPEAKER_03: And there's no better place to do it right here at home in front of the Eagles Baseball.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: You can get your tickets available at CanmoreEagles.ca slash tickets.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: We hope to see you at the rink.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: And that's going to do it for another episode of Eagles Weekly presented by Patty Jack Burger Bar.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: A big thank you to Ryder Dambo for joining us this week, and of course to Patty Jack Burger Bar for the continued support of the Canmore Eagles and this podcast.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much for listening and following along.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: Make sure you're following the Canmore Eagles on social media.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: Check out their website for all the latest news, game highlights, everything in between.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: That's where you can find it.
- 34:46SPEAKER_03: And we'll be back next week for another guest and plenty more to talk about.
- 34:50SPEAKER_03: Until then, I'm Chris Klein, and we will catch you down the road.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: Thanks for listening to Eagles Weekly.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: New episodes every week.
